Once it is up and running spend a bunch of time getting acquainted with the Network app and look at all of the things that can be displayed using the icons of the left side for Unifi Devices and Client Devices. Once you are comfy with that go to the settings and look at the top three items for Internet, Networks and WiFi. I created an additional Network for my IoT devices for which I set the parameters so that the devices are isolated and can only reach the internet. I created a secondary SSID under WiFi which uses the new network and is limited to the 2.4ghz band since the IoT devices mostly use that. You could also build a third network for Guests with an associated SSID, etc.

It is designed to be a WiFi "adapter" that providesMLO WiFi to the device which it's attached to. It connects to your computer via USB-C. Now, that said, you COULD use a UX7 for a similar role. You could wireless mesh it into your Unifi network and use it as a bridge. You then plug in an ethernet device and it should pick up and provide interwebs to the ethernet port. This is different than the AirWire because the UX7 is an AP, so the ethernet connected laptop will be just another client, which is different than the AirWire, which is more of a transparent device. (even though behind the scenes, it is acting as an AP). The UX7 will also broadcast a WiFi signal. Both have to be sited somewhere there is a strong signal or it won't be a very good experience. So, yes you can do what you want, assuming that you have a Unifi network and are OK with the limitations.

If you get two of them, you should absolutely run an Ethernet cable between them for back haul. The only downside is that there’s only a single Ethernet port available, so you won’t be able to add wired devices. The UCG Cloud Fiber has more ports and is overall faster, but if your interwebs is only 500 Mbps, you don’t really need the extra speed. You’d do just as well with a UX7, a small switch and perhaps another UX7 as an AP.

Pair it with a switch and add two more UX7s in AP mode and you’re good to go. That way you don’t have to worry about having a ceiling AP sitting on a table. I would strongly recommend using wired back haul though over meshing. I’ve had great success with the signal strength of my UX7, so that part shouldn’t be a concern.

Also, the radiation pattern is different. The UX7 broadcasts in a semi sphere around the unit. The U7 Pro Wall has more of a cone shaped coverage area in front of the AP. It does not have great coverage behind the unit nor does it broadcast much up or down. The difference is similar to a bare lightbulb vs a broad beamed flashlight.

Initially I had a couple other vlans (cameras and guest) that I wasn’t even using yet and it would sometimes get an ip from one of those. I since deleted those just in case it was some weird config error but it still occurs. If you plug a device into the port on the UX7 that is on the wrong vlan does it get an ip on default vlan or the other/wrong vlan? I’ve also tried to see static IPs and use network override without success. Seems like some weird bug but everything is working fine so not a huge issue I guess.
r/Ubiquiti · Is the UniFi Express 7 the best AP for the money? Haven’t done detailed speed tests all around the house but when on 5ghz I’d say I’m getting about the same as you. If I’m in the same room within 10ft of the AP I can max out my ISP incoming bandwidth but say the next room over on 5ghz I’m probably anywhere from 300-600. I’d say what you’re getting is what should be expected. I think the biggest difference in coverage of a UX7 vs one of their dedicated APs has more to do with location than the device itself. Their traditional APs are meant to be ceiling mounted and thus there’s just less “stuff” (bodies, furniture, etc) to get in the way as opposed to the UX7 which you’d just place on a desk. On 5ghz my average signal strength ~60dBm and maybe a little better in 2.4ghz.

r/Ubiquiti · Tips for the Unifi Express 7, this is my first Unifi. ux7 is a solid start. just keep in mind it handles around 30-40 devices before slowing down. with all those smart home things you might want a lite 8 poe switch to offload wired connections. i’d also grab a cheap u6 lite as a second ap if coverage gets spotty. but try the ux7 alone first - it surprises people.

r/Ubiquiti · UDR7+Express 7 or 2 Express 7s? A lot of times its due to placement issues. Most of unifi's APs work best ceiling mounted and some people can't do that. Even if they are mounted on a wall or some 3D printed desktop mount it isn't as good compared to a UX7. Have one UX7 running in AP mode in my living room. Tested a U7XG there too in various locations as I couldn't mount it on the ceiling and couldn't find a place where it did well. Bought the UX7 and placed it where I wanted it and works great. End of the day people need to get what they need to fit their environment.

r/Ubiquiti · Express 7 vs U7 Pro as AP I just deployed an Express 7 and U6 Pro at my parents. The Express 7 is where the service entry in the garage, which happened to be a hard spot to cover anyways, and I stuck the U6 Pro near the opposite end of the house in the attic. It may not be as hard as you think to run an ethernet cable, my dad and I are not particularly handy people but we made it work with some youtube videos. It helped there were already sizable holes for the electrical wires.

If you’re planning to upgrade beyond 2Gbps in the future, I’d say get the UX7 and switch first so you have the option to convert the Ux7 into an access point and upgrade your gateway to a UCG Fiber down the line. Also, do not make the mistake of buying the UDR (in your link) instead of the [UDR7](https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/udr7) which is faster and cheaper.

I started with a UX7 as my router, upgraded to a UDR7 as I wanted to run all the apps, then realised I wanted a couple of cameras and upgraded again to a UCG Fiber. Since the UDR7 upgrade I’ve been using the UX7 as an AP, and because it works so well (I also have a U7 Lite), when I moved to the UCG Fiber, I replaced the UDR7 with another UX7 in AP mode. The UX7 as an AP is great, the CPU is always low, power is easy to supply, the extra port is great to connect a Flex Mini switch to for wired TV devices, and I have them sitting on desks/entertainment units so when renting I’m using existing wall cabling and not making holes anywhere to mount hardware. In Australia, with our pricing that we have to deal with, the UX7 is priced cheaper than comparable U7 AP’s, with the added bonuses of port control, desktop form factor, and simple power solution (wall plug, small power brick and USB-C. I highly recommend them if that works for your use case, I’ve got no complaints.

I'm also using 2 UX7's as APs, each with a Flex Mini or Flex 2.5G off them, and they work great, especially noting they have a 10G connection to the AP and 2.5G using the port on the back. No issues with wifi coverage, I get much better results from these than my U7 Lite (that is also desk mounted). If desk mounting is your deployment choice, then I think the UX7 is a good solution.

I've got the UDR7 sitting on a shelf and can't decide to sell it or keep it as a backup, but with multiple UX7's I could always turn one of them into the router if needed.

Frankly, I'm probably going to disconnect my U7 Lite as it sits between the two UX7's and very rarely has more than a couple of devices on it. I think that without it there's plenty of signal from the UX7's to cover. There was talk (and some pictures on Reddit and Discord) of the UX7-SP, so we know it exists, but nothing announced or seen yet. I was hoping to use that as an AP, but didn't want to wait any longer and went with another UX7 instead. I assume that the UX7-SP needs a good supply chain and some ISPs to commit to it before we hear more. I don't think it will be a general release product, but more the Unifi first step bundled through ISPs. Thinking about it, there must be some pre-configuration done before it gets to a customer, as I can't see the average-Joe manually setting up ISP connections, networks/vlans and wifi settings from scratch, so maybe that's an extra problem that Ubiquiti need to solve also.

Neither clients nor APs have mature or proper implementation of the Wi-Fi 7 feature. It’s just a hunch, but do you have band steering on by any chance? When you’re close to -70dBm on Apple devices, they start to actively search for a better signal either looking for another BSSID or switching to mobile network with the WiFi assistant feature in iOS/iPadOS. My guess is your iPhone is connected to 5ghz, it’s almost down to -70dBm on 5GHz, trying to switch to 2.4 or mobile but your AP through band steering basically says «nope, I still want you to be on 5GHz». Either better the signal situation or turn off band steering so your iPhone can reliably connect to 2.4.

One UX7 in the network closet and two other UX7's located in my game room and office. Everything works great. I did go through their design studio to see if I will have good coverage or not and I do. The coverage even extends a bit out into the yard as I have an Alexa in our detached garden house and a bird feeder with cameras in it out in a tree.

Keep the UX7 configured as an Access Point but turn off wireless meshing on the UDR7. You’ll get 2x the speed on the UX7 as when you use wireless meshing you lose 50% of your bandwidth with each mesh hop.

But, if you wanna upgrade, the great thing about having a single story house is how easy it is to run ethernet. You would probably be great (and just fine even with one) with two APs near either end of the house, assuming you’re in a rectangular rancher. I love my UX7 but you’d need a switch or an injector for an AP. If you don’t plan on hardwiring any TVs or gaming computers, then just get the UDR7. It has one PoE port you can use to power your other AP.

However, you may do better with an Express 7 and two U7-Lites (one for each floor). This will roughly cost you the same as two Express 7s if you go with cheap PoE injectors. A proper PoE switch will cost you a bit more, but may be very well worth it. You may wish to try one Express 7 and one U7-Lite with an injector to see how that works. Properly positioned, a U7-Lite should provide the same coverage as the Express 7 (perhaps a bit less -- but not drastically so). I have one Express 7 and two U7-Lites covering two floors and a basement with much larger total area. Again, construction materials, layout, and desired minimum signal strength should guide your ultimate decision. Without knowing those details, I cannot advise fully.

However, not knowing your wall composition, I cannot say for certain. With a wood frame and drywall, it seems to do quite well. You will not get 6 GHz far, but 5 GHz will penetrate well enough (and even further for 2.4 GHz). If your walls are brick or masonry or any metal meshing, then you may have trouble. If your current router WiFi signal reaches well inside your house and your only issue seems to be due to simultaneous clients, then the Express 7 should handle it much better.

Play with deployment and see how well it covers you. You may not need a third AP. If you do, you can always get a POE switch and another AP. 2. Get the UCG Max, a PoE switch and two or three APs. If you get two APs to start, you can always add another. This will give you a lot of future headroom. 3. Get an Express 7 as the gateway. From your response, it may fully suffice. Pair it with a PoE switch and additional APs (cf. #1). If it cannot pass muster, you can always demote it to AP duty and get a more powerful gateway. My Express 7 runs \~30 active devices daily and has ramped up as high as \~45 when my kids have their gaggles of friends come over to the house. I have not noticed any performance issues, and I have a non-trivial configuration. The Express 7 is a champ. I do not have my U7-Lites mounted on the ceiling and they work just fine.

Even with a POE switch, you will save money given your description. I have an Express 7 feeding two U7-Lites via a POE-8-Lite switch. The three cover more area than you describe, but I have many fewer devices. So, I do not think an Express as the gateway will cover you. Also, you did not say if you plan to run applications other than Network. Depending on placement, a UDR7 may eliminate an extra AP for you. APs like U7-Lites work just fine on desks and shelves. You can even buy or print funky pedestals for them.

Dr7 can do it all but by that I mean it can run single 4k or 2x2k cameras and record on sd card, run access and has built in switch while one port is POE so you just plug another Ap. So if you need 2 cameras, 2 ap and cloud gateway it is great. Ux7 is great but you most defiantly need a poe switch or regular one with poe adapter, and UNVR instant for access and cameras but than you have dedicated nvr with full size hdd and 8 poe ports for cameras. Most expensive option is CGF with poe switch and ssd. Not worth it if you need an Ap where the router is placed. And 8x2k or 5x4k cameras.

I would personally get neither and get a Ubiquiti UCG + AP (U6 Pro or U7 Pro) but that’s also a bit pricier.

Where 2 nodes usually cover my house I need 3 nodes for the same effect but then the network features and available controls are just where Unifi stands out. Have you tried a factory reset to your over heating UX7 to see if that removes what's making it run more than your other node. You can also swap the power cables and see. I've never heard the fans from my UX7 nodes and I've got one in my living room and another in my home office.
r/UNIFI · Switching from Netgear Orbi to Unifi ~ what are my set up options To keep it simple and short. If coverage is your reason for changing then you'll be disappointed as Unifi WiFi signals are poor compared to the Orbi and for a mesh system with wireless backhaul, the Orbi is way better. However, it doesn't mean you can't achieve something similar with Unifi if more control is what you want. You can combine UDR7 and UX7 for a full wireless mesh. In my home I have UDR7 as my main router and 2 UX7 as AP (One is wired and one is wireless). I have a PC connected to the end of the wireless one and it still works great but it's largely dependent on the signal gotten from the parent node. I have a 1gb internet and get roughly 900+ Mbps from my WiFi 6E and 7 devices and 1.1gb from my wired devices. However my pc connected to the wireless AP gets between 850-900mbps. On the cost side it costs me half the same price as 2packs Orbi 970

The U6 mesh had some internet chat about thermal issues (I'm not sure how much of an issue that was, but some people complained) and it's too early to know if the U7 Mesh is better or worse in that regard. With an added 6GHz radio, it might generate even more heat and weather sealing may interfere somewhat with ventilation flow. The Express 7 is probably not quite as good an AP as the U7 Pro ceiling mounted domes, but it wasn't practical for me to get ethernet to the ceiling in this location and I already had ethernet for the shelf where they sit (it's near a TV). Plus, I really only need to cover a small area with this AP.

I'm considering an Express 7 as an AP too because they just don't have other Wifi 7 APs for desktop use (in a room where you're not going to mount something to a wall). A natural product for this would be a WiFi 7 version of the U6 Mesh, but that was only $20 less than the Express 7 so maybe there's no reason to not just use the Express 7 as an AP. It feels like you're probably overpaying for what hardware is needed for just an AP, but apparently just $20 more. And the U7 Pro is only $10 less. The U7 Pro Wall costs the same as the Express 7 and is less omnidirectional (which could be a pro or a con depending upon y our geometry). So, as long as the Express 7 works well as an AP, it doesn't seem like a bad choice to me and I'm considering it too for similar reasons as you. I'll be interested in what anyone else thinks of the idea.

I have my MacBook connected to my HP Omen Transcend 4K monitor with USB-C. It runs at like 185hz, so it's a huge amount of bandwidth going over that cable. I recently installed a USB-C right-angle converter on the left-hand-side of my Mac so that the cable coming out of my mac goes backwards before going anywhere else, rather than just coming out direct. It seems like the right-angle converter is likely poorly shielded, and so EMI is making it out of that and interfering with the 5ghz/6ghz signal. If I move it to the other side of my laptop, it works a little better but still appears to impact speed. Going back to just the straight-through cable from the side of the laptop to the monitor, everything "just works". So, very locally induced interference seems to have been the cause. If anyone else ever stumbles on this, unplug any USB-C stuff you have, move away, and see if it makes any difference.

The new device looks interesting, but the express 7 is aesthetically pleasing to leave on a book case, ensuring you're going to get the best signal (won't matter for your use case as most audio devices are 100MB devices).

r/Ubiquiti · Express 7 vs U7 Pro as AP That’s more or less my setup. I have the Express 7 in my bedroom closet then a UDB-Switch in my office and the U7 Pro connected to the UDB-Switch. There’s a pass through between the office and living room so the U7 is in the living room. Ideally, I’d have a switch with a back haul to my Express 7 but I live in an apartment and I’m lazy. I still pull 1G speeds in my office and living room so I’m okay with it now. I am looking at running a cable from my office to the closet so I can get the full 2G speeds I pay for but not in a rush. FYI, the APs are designed to be ceiling mounted but they don’t have to be. Mine is sitting on an end table.

In my house, I have the Express 7 as my gateway (replaced my router with it) and a U7 Pro. Start with the Express 7, then add to it if you want to.

They are really good but if I step outside I tend to lose connection because my device wants to hang on to 6ghz. That said, I do have an Express 7 in my office room since that room isnt hardwired. I like it. Works great.

The UX7 is the replacement, this is basically a UDR7 with a smaller form factor, less ports and no storage. The UCG-Ultra would need a PoE switch or PoE injectors to run the AP's The UX7 would just need a PoE switch, as it only has one LAN port. On paper the UX7 is capable of more throughput. Both are good options for starting out.

Heck, if you wanted cams, if you trunk to an nvr, all the traffic is local unless you're actively viewing the stored data, and even then, its not a ton. Dont get me wrong, a lot of unifi people like to go wild with their home networks. Power to them!

Parts of my house still get -75db, but most in -60 to -70. I have 1gbps fios but typically pull 400 to 750 depending on where im standing. I have a u7 not hooked up. Its hideous imp haha Might return it and live with my setup as a single. 2000sqft but split level 4 floors staggered. So its a challenge.

The coverage has been great and the handoff between the two units seems to be much better than before. The one major benefit of the UX7 over other APs is the extra 2.5G port that can be used for a device or switch.

Second, a single Express 7 has a range of 1750 sq. feet and you have 2 floors 2224 sq. feet each. When it comes to range of Ubiquiti devices. We would like to be conservative. Anyways, a single Express 7 is not going to cover each floor. What I envisage: The floor where your get your ISP internet, -> 1 Express 7 + 1 Ultra 210 W(switch, independently powered) , since ethernet terminate in-wall, then you need to look for an in-wall AP solution. So for this floor we go for one U7 In-Wall. Range of express 7 is 1750 sq.ft + range of U7 In-Wall 1250 sq.ft = 3000. Now we go to the next floor, here we go for 2 U7-In wall range total 2500 sq.ft covered. Obviously, this would incur strategic placement of U7 in-walls, and all In Wall AP hook up to ultra switch which powers them.

I’m sure in the next 2 years I will have a couple, but for now I likely have none. Sounds like a waste I’m sure, but I’m only choosing the ux7 because I’ve seen that the previous ux was terrible. Also the ux7 appears to be more readily available. - standard drywall, yep - only 1 device will be plugged in via Ethernet, which is my Apple TV box, because it’ll be right next to the ux7. Everything else will rely on wifi. The house isn’t set up or wired for Ethernet anywhere and I don’t want to do that at a rental - I did consider buying a cloud gateway like you said and then getting an AP, but all of the APs I see aren’t regular tabletop sitting APs. They all appear to be ceiling or wall mounted, which I’d rather not do. Is there any APs that just sit on a table like a regular router?

r/Ubiquiti · Is a UniFi Express 7 overkill for just a regular household? Let me share my story. I’ve been using an eero 6+ with a unmanaged switch from Netgear for years. It’s been rock solid but networking details are all locked behind a paywall. Also, eero does not have a web interface. My condo is roughly 1,000 sq. feet with cable ISP 1 Gb DL and 50 Mb UL. I have 19 devices connected with a mix of wi-fi 5, 6 and 7 clients. Then I bought a previous version of Express 6 (I believe) and it sucked ass. Plus Unifi forces you to buy their unmanaged switch if you want to get details on wired connections. It sucked both for coverage and throughput when compared to eero 6+. I bit the bullet and got UX 7 with USW Flex Mini. I got the same coverage as eero but better insights and better throughput. I got this equipment before eero announced their most recent line of wi-fi 7 devices and I am happy. I would recommend reviewing some of the videos on YT that show what you can see about your network with Unifi and how scalable it is. Then compare prices with eero but factor in their subscription fee to compare apples with apples.

Look at reveiws, the Express 6 was awful as a cloud gateway, it constantly froze for our home setup, it just wasn't powered enough or cooled well enough. I have heard mixed reviews on the 7, if you have a smaller home, look into GliNET, it runs a fork of WRT and can help your nerd out.

r/Ubiquiti · Help Upgrading from UniFi Express to UniFi Express 7 It really is that simple :) I've done it several times (one of which was exactly UX to UX7). If anything goes wrong, you can return the UX temporarily until you find a solution. Only real issue you might have is if the ISP has a MAC whitelist and you have to clone the UX's MAC to the UX7 so you can connect to the Internet and restore the backup. And superadmin access is enough, that's basically owning the device for this purpose, you won't have access issues.

r/Ubiquiti · Express 7 AP and managing its ports 1) you do not need a UI cloud account to use the iOS app, you can connect to local systems using local creds. 2) I think the commenter above may be referring to configuring the port when the UX7 is in gateway mode instead of AP mode. AP mode will make the two ethernet ports a switched pair but not configurable beyond selecting the management VLAN.

Money not a problem but do I need it? I currently have an older Netgear Orbi WiFi-5 3 box system and with the 2 satellites wired it gets 600+ in the same and often adjacent rooms. I like the UI routing ecosystem and have had fun learning it and guess I'll keep it, but for now have its WiFi turned off. I have found if I need fast downloads on my phone or pad I can plug in one of the 2.5gig USB-C to Ethernet adapters I have and can get up to 1250x1250 mb.

It really depends on the layout of the house, but I'd be wary of using a single UX7 for full coverage. It might work OK for 2.4 GHz. My experience at 5 GHz is it is OK for one or maybe two drywalls. My experience at 6 GHz is it is OK for one drywall. If your MIL is OK with using the Internet only in certain rooms, the UX7 will probably be OK. It's the fringes that might be the issue. Most of my ping times were under 10 msec. Some were even under 4 msec. I just switched to 2.4 GHz and many of my pings were still under 10 msec, most were under 20 msec. **WiFi is a shared resource.** I have a relatively quiet neighborhood. But if you live in a high density environment, you will probably have problems with neighbors. Try connecting to the LAN port of the UX7 and run wired tests. You will probably notice much more predictable performance.

r/Ubiquiti · UDR7+Express 7 or 2 Express 7s? My rental has Cat5e running through all the return ductwork, and one out the downstairs window and back in the upstairs window... Definitely don't discount strange ways to run network cable. I would do the UDR7 and then a U6/U7 Mesh or something. You *can* mesh the Express 7, but you're paying for a whole second gateway when you could be paying for more radios/WiFi 7 in your second AP instead for the same cost, or a cheaper AP like a U7 lite or Swiss army knife. Most if not all of the APs Unifi has can mesh.

r/Ubiquiti · Please review my plan: NVR + Express 7 Note that you'll be right on the edge of the NVR Instant's 40w PoE budget; the G6 Turret draws 9.9w, so four of them need 39.6w. Not a problem; just no more room for any other PoE devices there. Plugging anything PoE into the Instant's two unused ports would risk a brownout and all your devices would restart. Annoying! The Amplifi Alien mesh devices have huge 8x8 MIMO antenna arrays, which is really beneficial for mesh use. The UX7 is only 2x2. I would not be surprised to see a substantial drop in performance for clients connected to the mesh AP. You almost certainly will not see 800Mbps. That said, if you really want to move from Amplifi to UniFi, consider the U7 Long Range, which is 4x4 (but lacks 6GHz), or the U7 Pro XGS (4x4 *and* 6GHz, but pricey). There is no UniFi AP with an 8x8 array on 5Ghz. (I'm focused on 5GHz because it's the most relevant for mesh usage.) Of course the very best thing you could do is add wired backhaul. If running Ethernet isn't feasible, you could see if something like InvisiLight ([non-affiliate Amazon link](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8DQW36V)) would work for you.

What's your opinion on getting the Cloud Gateway Max as my router (obviously connected to the 5G modem which has to be a shitty spot for an AP), which connects to a MoCA adapter and a switch on the other side of the room for wire the whole TV area, and a U7 Pro Wall centrally located in my place as the sole AP backhauled across that MoCA line? Really key question I can't find an answer to: is the U7 Pro Wall significantly better/stronger than the U7 Express?

r/Ubiquiti · Advice on picking UniFi Express 7 vs Cloud Gateway Max Specification wise the Orbi 870 radios (use Qualcomm chip set) should be better - 4x4 MIMO for Orbi vs 2x2 for Express 7, so should get 2x the speed in the 5/6GHz bands. My thinking was that if I use the Orbi in bridge mode, with an UniFi router would get better security and features and keep my Orbi with the good radio performance. The Express 7 is $80 less than the Gateway Max. So at least with the Express 7 could run my IoT devices on 2.4GHz network (vs keeping on Orbi).

There's also YouTube video tutorials to watch on what settings to use and why. My carrier is now with Spectrum. I am paying for the 1 Gbps plan. With my old Motorola modem/router I was only getting 100 Mbps download times. I thought Spectrum was throttling my internet. Just now with my new UniFi UCI modem and UniFi Express 7 I clocked a download speed of 1089 Mbps. I'm stunned.

Running cable hasn't been factored in the pricing and I suspect others here will come up with better parts lists. Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what to look at.

r/Ubiquiti · UDR7 + Express 7 vs CG Max + Express 7? To answer your question. The Express 7 are good to be used as APs. I run 3 of them on low power as isolated APs for bedrooms. I do still run ceiling APs as mains. These just fill gaps when doors are close and I'd like proper through put. Not sure the size of your home, but they do work well as APs Anyone who wants an Eero system, I steer them this way as it's cheaper and you get more for the $$ Everyone I've recommended on this is now in the unifi rabbit hole which you'll be in fairly soon 😂

I have found the 3 UX7s are plenty for coverage in my space, even considering some of the older construction in my house (plaster and lathe walls). But, to your direct concern, yes I did a 1 for 1 swap of Orbi wifi modules to Ubiquiti wifi modules.

I did UCG Fiber and 3 UX7s. Coverage has been great. I currently have 5 cameras connected to my UNVR Instant as well with no issues.

You have to go under control plane, settings -> scroll down all the way till the bottom and youll see hardware acceleration. Once I disabled that, it took off on LAN.

I have made the following changes and am seeing about 700 - 750Mbps consistently on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I don't actually have any 6GHz capable devices so I'm guessing this is what I'll top out at for now! On the Express 7, I made the following changes: \- Maximum speed (vs conservative speed default) \- On 5GHz, channel width 80Hz (from 40Hz), channel number 36 (from auto), power medium (from auto) \- I couldn't find hardware acceleration anywhere in the desktop UI. I'm in the UK and on PPPoE which I read could be a limitation here. Thank you for all your help!
r/Ubiquiti · Express 7 speeds surprisingly slow I do live on residential street in the middle of a town (Windsor, UK). IDS and IPS are off. I have set the channels as you advise. The Express 7 is on LAN port 1 of the switch, which is itself in port 1 of the CGM. I have tried the Express 7 straight into the CGM (skipping the switch) and same result. However, I will try the other ports as you suggest. I have my MacBook Pro connected directly via a 5G ethernet / USB adapter and I get the full speed my ISP offers

That said, the wifi capabilities are basically the same between the different similarly priced options. I think it would mostly come down to how you want to power the device. The Express 7 comes with its own power supply that can plug into a wall socket, so that might save some hassle and money as opposed to having to get a separate POE adapter for the Pro Wall or XG.

I suspect that your client is not roaming to 6GHz, and you live in a conjested 5GHz environment with lots of interference from nearby APs. Because of this, using a wider bandwidth does more damage than good. You need to get your client onto 6GHz, or scrap the express 7 and get something with a 4x4 5GHz radio.

Some have said that if you have mesh enabled, it can grab one of the other vlan ip’s. From what iv’e read, most don’t have mesh enabled. Sounds like a bug that started affecting users with the UX7 in AP mode a couple of updates ago.

r/Ubiquiti · Is a UniFi Express 7 overkill for just a regular household? I have 47mbit/s copper to fibre FTTN in Australia due to body corp situation I can't get fibre yet or any time soon. I might get starlink, U have w really solid copper line with little to no spike and jitter, but I live alone and have a lot of smart devices. My current ISP modem/router is absolutely horrid and I wanna play with pretty things 🥹 I am considering the Express 7 and a switch or the bigger unit, this compared to things like Deco tri band mesh systems for similar money etc. I really want to play with this eco system though, Could I get another one of these down the track and use it as a mesh as from the other? To not only extend wifi mesh performance but also allow ethernet to be delivered over wireless so within my space? If so I would start with 1 of these units or the big brother and then expand (quite a bit from the looks of some peoples posts haha) over time? Sorry to jump in on your post OP just you ask a great question.

r/Ubiquiti · Express 7 vs U7 as an AP It can be a toss up. I started with UCG-Fiber and 2 Pro XG and then added a UX7 as an AP placed next to my main PC since it also has a 2.5gbe port. Signal from everything has been great and the form factor of the UX7 is great to just put on a flat surface/desk. The Pro XG as the benefit of being less clunky since the UX7 requires the power supply.

Devices within the LAN side of the UX7 wouldn’t rely on the upstream router at all. Heck, if you had a switch, they wouldn’t even rely on your UX7.

r/Ubiquiti · UniFi Express 7 vs. Device Bridge Switch for my specific use case I could be wrong but I don’t think u can use essentially 2 routers to extend your network in a mesh config. Just use what it’s actually meant to be used and get the switch. That’s your most reliable option. If you still want WiFi down the road get a Lite AP and connect it to the switch.

r/Ubiquiti · Unifi Express 7 Shows As Being Offline But Still Works... Sorry for the delay, on this. I figured out the issue, it was my fault. I have the router in the living room (that's where AT&T installed it because there was a CAT6 there, the only one in the house), but I wanted one of the UX7's in the office, so I used one of the moca devices to go from ethernet off of the router to coax and then from coax back to ethernet in the office. Then I installed the other UX7 upstairs and when I connected it to the moca device, it was able to see the router and was getting DHCP from it instead of the first UX7 in my office. Since the living room is next to the office, I just put the UX7 in the living room (so it goes router to UX7 directly, and then the moca devices off of the UX7 to the other UX7). Honestly, compared to the three Eero mesh setup I had, the two UX7's are giving me the same coverage, better speeds/latency, and far more options (such as creating a VPN server) without having to spend extra money. It's only been a few days, but the devices seem stable, and the network performance is very much improved.

UXG lite gateway + AP vs Cloud gateway ultra compact router + ap or just get a Unifi express 7 Over here in Australia, UCG max/fiber cost a lot more than all the options I mentioned. UXG lite is half price at the moment sot UXG lite plus an U6 AP is less than half price of the UCG fibre. The uniFi express 7 is currently on special (and AUD $200 below the Fibre) that's why I am considering. Without the special, I was thinking of just replace my 8 year old RT-54U with RT-AX5400 or BE3600 (budget is <Aud$400).

All in one (router + WiFi 7) 2. Unifi network is all you’ll need 3. Remote access is nice - a great way to know it’s working when you’re not there. 4. It can serve as a mesh - you can add another in case you need more coverage, or if you upgrade, this can be used to extend your network.

If you needed more ports you could plug in a switch to your UX7 like you said but you might like that the ports on the UDR7 can be managed where you can control VLAN for instance. You can purchase a managed switch from Ubiquiti as well.

You really need to ask yourself where you’re going with this. Only router / wifi? 100%? Sure, go for the Express 7. But if you’re ever going to go for cameras, doorbell, nas, … look at the UCG range.

The other option is to download the backup from the network application's System tab, but I don't think that's a full console backup, though I'm not sure what that adds compared to just a Network backup.

r/orbi · Orbi 970 system crashing I tested with a UDR7 for a week and absolutely loved it. It works seamlessly and performance is great. However, for my current needs, I decided to go with a Cloud Gateway Fiber unit and 2 Wifi 7 access points. You can mesh unifi APs and some of their wifi-enabled gateways such as Unifi Express 7. So, what you can do is to buy 2 UE7s. first unit will act as main router and gateway. The second one will connect in a mesh formation to your first unit. You have 2 Ethernet ports on the second unit that you can repurpose for LAN (1x2.5G and 1x10G)

I would recommend getting 1 router and 2 access points, depending on the size of your place. The U7 lite’s seem pretty appealing, and would make use of your 2.5G. You could also get a flex 2.5 POE with the savings and simplify some. You say you don’t want to do cameras, you might though (the camera system is very nice). Might be worth investing to make that possible in the future as well.

There isn't much to it. I'd say, get it set up per instructions and then search Google for any menu settings in the unifi front end that you're curious about. If you're curious enough to experiment then be prepared to do a master reset and maybe back up your settings. The interface has a lot to it, but when the help of Google you'll become a pro in no time. If you're not the type to experiment then don't feel you need to. The defaults are pretty good.
