    3 mesh nodes that close might be overkill. Start with just 1 main router node and see how it goes. Make sure you’re connecting on the 5ghz band too. If you need more coverage still, add the second one on the far side but still close enough to get good wireless backhaul signal between the nodes. But try it with one node first. Google how to analyze wifi channel congestion with apps like wifiman, netspot, etc. Dont go higher than 80mhz wide on the 5ghz channel. Use 20 on the 2.4ghz and maybe split the two bands with diff names too

    -49dbm is a very very good signal. To check for passthrough mode you need to login to the modem configuration web page. You have to look up the model on google and see how to do it. The model should be on the modem itself.

    Start from scratch. Disconnect all extra nodes. Modem/router from ISP, make sure this isnt broadcasting any wifi and if able to, put it in ip passthrough mode so its only acting as a modem and your 1st wifi mesh router will handle all the routing. Once thats all done and its only modem + 1 wifi mesh router on, just check to see how the signal is throughout the house. Use the wifiman app. Enable the wifiman shortcut if on iphone and you can see the wifi signal as you walk around the house. You can even map it out in the app too. Super helpful. Then you can place a second mesh node at the far side of the house but you want to still have decent signal. -68 dbm or higher (negative numbers, closer to zero is higher here). Just find a convenient spot that makes sense for your home layout. If you can hardwire the nodes together, that would be ideal. Thats called a wired backhaul and would create the best mesh setup. If you cant do that then youll use wireless backhaul on the 5ghz band. Once you use the app you’ll get a better idea of how to set up the WiFi mesh. Of you do end up using all nodes, and if you can only so wireless backhaul, be sure its in star topology instead of daisy chaining. Star config is when each node is connected to the 1st node that acts as the router. Daisy is when each node connects to the next and the next in a chain which adds latency each hop

    My first router was a links's years ago. Worked great until I replaced it with an Apple AirPort Extreme. It held up great for almost 10 years . I had some issue with a Deco X-55 as a router so I repurposed them to AP'S and stuck them behind the Airport extreme, I replaced the AirPort Extreme with a TP Link ER 707 M2 only because I wanted to go to 2.5G. So far it is working well. I think Tp Link routers are fine but their Mesh systems do not measure up as well.

    Im no expert but here are a few pointers. ​Since your wired PC on the second unit is "blazing fast," we have proven the Wired Backhaul is solid. Your custom cable is fine! The issue is purely the wireless broadcast. ​Try these steps in order: ​The "One-Node" Test: Unplug the basement Deco entirely. Stand next to the Main Deco. If Wi-Fi is now 600Mbps+, you have an interference/placement issue. If it's still 2Mbps, the issue is a setting on the Main Deco. ​Signal Source Selection: In the Deco app, click on a specific device (like your phone). Look for "Connection Preference." You can manually tell that phone to only connect to the 1st-floor Deco. This stops the "fighting." ​Check for "Smart Connect": Decos try to merge 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one name. Some devices fail at this. Try disabling the 2.4GHz band temporarily in the Wi-Fi Settings to see if your speed jumps. ​MTU Size: In the Deco app under Advanced > IPv4, check the MTU. It should be 1500. If it's lower, it can cause massive fragmentation and slow speeds. ​A note on the M4 vs X55: The M4 was slower but used older, more "forgiving" Wi-Fi standards. The X55/BE25 uses much wider channels (80MHz or 160MHz). In a small house, those wide channels hit walls and bounce back, creating "noise." You might actually need to lower the congestion by moving the Decos further apart or reducing the "High Capacity" settings in the app. ​Verdict: Start by turning off Fast Roaming and testing with only one Deco powered on. That will tell you immediately if the units are sabotaging each other.

    THANK YOU! This thread saved me a ton of frustration. I have a Deco X55 with three units, all using Ethernet backhaul through TP-Link TL-SG108E and TL-SG116E switches. One of the Deco units was regularly losing connection (flashing red) and I couldn't figure out why. Once I disabled loop prevention on my switches, it's been solid as a rock.

    4 y/o Netgear Nighthawk MR60 whacked out 5 days ago -couldn’t keep but a few of the 70 devices that previous work fine. I added one ring 5 GHz camera and everything started to get the shakes. Hard boots slow adding of devices I couldn’t get anything to work. Many hours of frustration!!! ordered a TP-Link Deco‘s X 60 3 unit for $140. Amazon had an X 55 three node for $150 AI scoped out my picture and suggested x60, why the x55 gives 3 ethernet ports vs x60 with 2. Hardwiring 1 of 2 satellites, should have no problems for next 5 years - right? Any thoughts.

    Use the Deco mesh system as your router and not the "Modem/Router". The backhaul connections between mesh nodes should be hardwired and not Wi-Fi if at all possible which will help improve performance. Deco has a learning curve period while it adjusts to your network so give it some time to go through this process. Also remember to run the "Network Optimization" frequently from the phone app to help optimize performance.

    If it does, it may be worth trying with just two Decos. If the first and third units are in range of each other, the second may only be slowing things down. I’ve gotten ~700Mbps on a PC plugged into a Deco X55 backhauling wirelessly to the main BE23 on the other side of the house. I haven’t tried with two hops though.

    I had a similar problem caused by a cheap Ethernet cable that came with a 100Mbps device and only had two wire pairs instead of four. It might be worth trying swapping the cable connecting your satellite Deco to your PC. Also, have you tried plugging the PC into the middle Deco? Two WiFi hops will always be slower than one (but I wouldn’t expect them to be as slow as you’re seeing). Another thing to try is running the network optimizer in the Deco app. This will try to find channels with minimal interference. Regarding your phone, is it connected to the closest Deco unit? I sometimes find my phone stays connected to a Deco on the other side of the house, resulting in speeds in the neighborhood of what you’re seeing. Usually turning WiFi off and back on helps it connect to the closest unit.

    I have the same system. One thing that I found that significantly helped my speeds was changing the subnet mask for the network. When in Router mode, it defaults to 255.255.252.0, which is overkill for a home network. Change it to 255.255.255.0 and see if you notice a difference. In the Deco app, navigate to More (bottom right) -> Advanced -> LAN IP -> Subnet Mask.     Probably have to many points in the mesh for that footprint. Here's how reconfigure intelligently: 1. Scale back to just one main wifi antenna/point/AP/whatever you want to call it at your router. 2. Walk around your house and find the point where the connection becomes unstable or weak in any way. 3. Place your second wifi point halfway between the main router/point and the spot where you lost signal. 4. Now that you have two wifi points up and running, walk around your house again and find the next spot where wifi is weak. 5. Place your third wifi point halfway between that spot and the nearest wifi point (either point 1 or point 2). Now you have a relatively optimized mesh network, and can continue to add more points if you need to in the same fashion.

    Wondered about WiFi overlap myself. Put router on one side of house with one AP on the other. If you have them daisy-chained, you’d be losing some chunk of your bandwidth by them keeping each other up-to-date. But you should absolutely have the Mesh unit’s backhaul using wired ethernet (à la AP moreso than pure wireless which is slow to begin with). Pure MeSH using just wireless doesn’t work well for most home environments. Use them for their wireless connection but have the unit itself hardwired to the router

    So the the ethernet cable connecting my pc to my deco in the room is the same one I have draped across my house to plug into the main deco and I get almost 1gb speed so I dont think its the cable causing the issue. I've also tried not using the ethernet and just running it through wifi and get the same result. As for the phone, yes I did check the app and it was connected to the deco in the same room as the desktop pc. I also ran network optimization I can try plugging the cable into the 2nd unit and see if that pumps it up at all

Best thing you can do short of hardwiring is to move them around. You said how far they are in distance. Distance is usually not the biggest issue, it’s walls and other obstacles. For instance I once fixed a clients mesh by realizing the signal went through a refrigerator full of wine. Moving the device above the fridge move it from <25Mbps to >600Mbps - as an example.

    Grab a tp link Deco x55 or x55 pro set up. I have a 3 pk in my modest sized home and I’m covered into the backyard and front yard, street, it’s really great. Support for speeds up to 3 gig which I doubt yall even get. Support for WiFi 6. Haven’t had any issues You can get a 3 pack for like $150 or less if you wanna wait and patrol for a sale. This is the worst time to buy a lot of shit rn. Not everything, but a lot. Literally even waiting a few days can be a hell

    The Deco X55 might be a solid option, especially if it has received the firmware update allowing you to set certain nodes to connect to the nearest node in your mesh network and not back to the primary unit due to distance. This was probably the reason why the Nest Wi-Fi Pro kept encountering issues since you can't wirelessly daisy chain the units properly (using ethernet backhaul would solve this situation). I'd so go for it if it's only $149.99 for the 3-pack.

    What's their current Internet speed? Are there a lot of data intensive tasks or devices in the network? As for coverage, 6500 Sq.Ft is for the 3 pack. A single node (1 pack) covers up to 2500 Sq.Ft. Are you planning on wirelessly meshing the system or hardwiring each node (if you opt for the 3 pack)? Configuring the wireless daisy chain for each node is possible (i.e., connecting the highest floor node to the main floor vs. highest floor node to the basement node). You would have to thoroughly test whether connection stability/performance is impacted. If they have or are planning to upgrade their Internet to anything higher than gigabit speeds, I'd definitely recommend something with a 2.5Gb port or higher. At that point you'll see more WiFi 6E/7 capable routers (which will future proof their setup). Nonetheless, if the user is using gigabit or less speeds and network interference isn't an issue in their neighborhood/house, then this should suffice (especially if you get the 3 pack for $149.99). WiFi 6 (at 160MHz channel width), should provide enough speed on the 5GHz band.

    I have 3x X55 in my 3 story house. I have on in ground floor front room lounge, one in ground floor back room that covers the garden, and one in front on 1st floor bedroom. It will depend on your construction and layout how well the coverage is. For example my 2nd floor home office is above the 1st floor bedroom with the deco and I get great speeds. In the 2nd floor bedroom next to the office it isn’t as great. I put it down to the steel beams used to build the loft extension. I have thought about buying a 4th deco but we don’t rely on the WiFi enough in that room to bother. My 1st floor back bedroom was a WiFi dead zone and front bedroom is also used as a home office and both are covered great.
