I'd recommend looking at eero instead of Deco gear, and specifically for your setup the eero Pro 6 which is tri-band. [https://eero.com/shop/eero-pro-6](https://eero.com/shop/eero-pro-6) I tried many many Deco units over a 6-9 month period including the XE75 Pro and even the crazy expensive "Wifi 7" BE85. Always had issues, either with core connectivity or other features like parental controls. Switched to eero and things "just work". If price is a concern, send me a DM and I can help find the eero units on sale / at a lower price.

r/TpLink · Best TP-Link Deco setup for a 1970s brick house in Denmark (wireless backhaul + garden coverage)? →2026-04-24T13:05:20

https://preview.redd.it/vf47v98arbxg1.jpeg?width=1625&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=378f8a21f25e02147adb5db92e479963a15bc8aa Here you go this should help, I got my crayons out for you. So as you can see my house is a typical 2 floor house. Things to note: * Green main Deco be85 (which can actually be any it is just 'assigned' in the app) * Blue Deco be85 node 2 * Red is the outdoor be3600 To answer your questions * When your BE85s were using wireless backhaul, were you still getting stable performance, or did you notice dropouts/roaming issues often? * I don't think it was drop outs as such, just felt a bit more 'laggy' at times - maybe it is in my head but everything feels snappier now, which tbh stands to reason as they are connected by 10GB Cat6a. * Would you still choose BE85 again, or do you think something like BE65/XE75 would have been enough? * I picked the be85 due to them being a lot more powerful than the be65 and the be95 was over kill I thought, and is actually hard to get in the UK - I got them on launch day so hard them at least 18 months now, given the walls and the size of the house I dont think the be65 would have been enough tbh but cant say for sure. I think the be85 had better mimo and or better nics which is what made me go for it. Given how bad the signal is in the garden, I am glad I went for the be85 and very recently added the outdoor unit as it has fixed so many issues for me outside (can happily work off a laptop in the sun now, play music and stream netflix!) Inside the house was never an issue with just the be85s, but everything has improved outside and even in the kitchen oddly. * How far away is the BE3600 Outdoor from the nearest Deco unit? * There is approx 57ft from the outside kitchen wall to the outdoor Deco (just measured it) - so this does not even cater for the fact it goes through many walls and the internal distances too (about another 20-30ft as you can see depending what one it decides to connect to) - so you're talking 80ft+ including walls * Does the BE3600 Outdoor have line of sight to the main house, or does the signal go through walls? * See above / the pic, not line of sight at all, it seems to connect to the blue one most the time which means its also a diagonal which makes it quite a bit further * For garden devices like cameras or a robotic mower, has the outdoor Deco been stable enough? * The back garden first gen Google nest camera has been considerably more reliable since I have the outdoor unit in the Summer house - despite the fact the 'round trip' is much higher now (more hops), as it is connected to it without restrictions across the garden and the fact (despite the outdoor Deco connection being classed as 'weak') the connection is more solid to one of the main units now despite the extra hop. The Google cam basicaly goes wifi > summer house > wireless back haul to blue node > cat6a to red node > cat6 to ISP router Hope that helps, feel free for more follow ups. I have a large server host in the garage (which is actually a gym now) and since I dropped phyical cables to the sitting room, snug and blue node everything feels snappier and I have crap 70mbps internet at the moment - but as I push Plex around the house and game on my xbox the added stability helps everything feel more responsive.

    r/TpLink · Deco BE85 random disconnects (Wi-Fi + LAN losing IP) – anyone else experiencing this? →2026-03-14T19:31:39

Open the Deco app, touch the node in the app that is nearest the camera and verify that the camera is listed under Connected Clients. Next, touch the line listing the camera. This opens a new window. Turn the High Priority setting On, which should help. Touch Connection Preference, which opens a new window. Make sure Connection Type is 2.4 GHz. If it’s not, scroll down to Preferred WiFi band and select 2.4 GHz. Next, scroll back up to Preferred Deco and select the Deco nearest to the camera. If the camera is not listed under the nearest node, then check the Main BE85 node and see if the camera is listed. If it is listed under the Main BE85, then that’s your issue because the camera isn’t connecting to the nearest node. After making the above settings and you still have a problem, then I’m not sure where to go next. The one thing that keeps coming to mind is channel interference, preventing good WiFi connectivity between the BE85 and the camera on the 2.4 GHz band. It’s certainly possible that the BE85 is having a problem of some sort, whether it’s a matter of overheating or a component not functioning properly. The same could be true of the camera. That would take more in depth diagnostics.

Yes, the steps didn't solve the problem. The camera is about 5 meters away from the mesh unit, there is a wall between them (the camera is hanged outside my windows, the mesh is inside my room). It's a thick wall, but the signal I see in Deco app is great (still disconnects though). The camera is made for 2.4g only. Using my 2 mesh units with wired backhaul. When doing speed test, wirelessly I get 1Gbps (The maxium my phone's and my laptop's nic are cable of) and wired I get 2Gbps.

Hi there. Yes, I would say so. I'm running firmware 1.1.1 and it has been very stable. The "BSH Hausgeräte" attribution is definitely sorted. I \*think\* the fan issue is OK as well. It worked well for months, then very occasionally came back so I moved to the 'top' 10GbE port. That is 100% silent. I should try the bottom port again, but for certain the TP-Link team made progress on the fan, if not completely resolved the situation.

Thanks for responding. After putting 120mm fan underneath it, the temperature dropped to 41C (from 48C). Oddly, even before I installed the fan, I cannot hear the built in fan of BE85.

    r/TpLink · Deco ethernet backhaul megathread →2023-11-23T15:43:49

I had a Cisco business 250 switch. It didn’t backhaul until we turned off spanning tree for those ports. Then it worked fine. That said, my frustration caused me to change things up. Now, I’ve got a TL SX3206HPP and a TL SG 108-M2. The three BE85’ are wired with one unit as the router connected to the other two BE85’s via the 3206 at 10g. Three of the four XE75 pros are connected to the 108, which is connected to the BE85’s 2.5gig port. They also wirelessly backhaul. So… two different decos through two different tp link switches to the BE85. I do have occasional instability, but lots of that has been set up. Tp link support was ‘in my network’ last night and it’s all working great. Then, today, youtube tv keeps hourglassing on the lg g3 and I had to switch it to a wired connection. It’s all very time consuming. https://preview.redd.it/0dakx2lib42c1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=c75bb502061b93ffdb4640c72c07c891c918fa0b

I believe the BE85 can use the same wireless backhaul tech as the BE95. I've used several different beta firmwares either directly or indirectly from TP-Link and I'm still have the fan issue. The best way to avoid it, use the top 10G port. I suppose wireless backhaul would also avoid it? But that's something I'd have to test. Kinda defeats the purpose, using wireless backhaul. My goal is to expand/propagate my 10Gb LAN as best as possible.

I’ve been going through hell and back for the last month!!!! I had x60’s and m5’’s with a simple net gear switch… Mr fucking early adapter had to go and get 3 be85’s combined with a Cisco 250 switch. Fuuuuuuuckkkkkk!!! Hell. Pure hell. Now… after the Cisco rep turned off STP, the deco’s communicate and backhaul properly. I’ve got 3 BE85’s and 5 x60’s (4 of which are hardwired) and I still feel like my network is shit. My signal comes strait from the ont to the deco, the switch is connected to the deco via sfp+ and my TV is fucking hardwired. Why tf would ANYTHING hourglass??! So, what do I do??? I go buy 4 xe75 pros. Next… a faster switch. Fuck it. I could run a small company with this setup, but there’s something wrong somewhere that makes it run like crap.

My issue is instability. I am trying to use the tenge port and the SPF we have had many dialogues that open ticket that has been escalated to senior engineering and I even had a midnight remote desktop support session with no help. They asked me to move devices from my 5G to the 2.4 network And I still don’t show any help and with their senior tech department being overseas in a 12 hour time difference it takes days to get a simple answer. We purchased this in June and then I was able to participate in the Netgear Wi-Fi seven hardware trial so we did not use the TP link system for a good two months. Once we hooked back up a week later, we started having constant issues and we been at this since, it’s frustrating again when you spend $1600 you’re out of the return policy in the system is basically defective. I haven’t read any article or post on here or anybody was given a chance or had their units exchanged by the manufacturer. I only see people exchanging them at the storefor reference all my system is hardwired my backhaul including and I just have constant Internet failure from multiple devices. I have one camera that says the bit Wright is an acceptable and I basically get zero usage out of that camera and it is only 25 feet from one of the satellites.

Thank you I will consider this. Richard- what are your thoughts on Eero max 7 vs. TP-Link BE85? Would you opt-in for the max 7? I have caught your posts before that practicality for WiFi 7 client end users is pretty much useless until late 2024. I support your reasoning for low latency and low packet loss with the "quasi wifi 7". Hoping to get your thoughts. I'm a little burned out from "rebooting" TP-link Be85 and still under the return period...so hoping to make a quick game-time decision soon.

I also have this same issue. In a cool air conditioned environment but every 30 or so minutes they ramp up to full fan speed for 5 minutes. This happens to both router and node on the BE85 in wired backhaul with a 2gig connection. I am on firmware version 1.0.9. Will a full device reset fix it? Thanks!

Thankfully, the fan(s) issue has gone away with the latest firmware. I'm not sure exactly which firmware version did the trick, as I was using some beta versions provided by TP-Link in the past. Whatever is current as of Jan '24 seems to be just fine. System is stable and performance has been good. You're still paying a significant premium for Wi-Fi 7, but the feature set -especially the extra 10Gbps LAN port- really set this apart.

Ugh indeed. Thanks for the info. Yeah, this pretty makes the bottom 10gbe port unusable then and as such the whole system for me too. I specifically got this system for the 10gbe capabilities and now I can't pretty much connect any 10gbe devices as the backhaul takes up the only available 10gbe port. Seriously considering returning mine now, I am not sure if this kind of issue is even fixable by firmware. I will try to use the top port for now and see if it helps. And I will also make ticket to TP-Link support as well, I sent you a PM asking for your ticket number.

Just a single 6E device, which is my son's desktop - ironically in one of the few places inside where I can't easily run Cat6. Speeds are only about 300Mbps, but that's due to walls and sub-optimal placement. My Wi-Fi 6 devices can hit 600-700Mbps when in line-of-sight. Which is 50% faster than they were getting on the Orbi. Not that real-world web performance is noticeably faster.
