r/orbi · How to upgrade smoothly a network with > 80 devices to an Orbi 770 with 2 satellites? I'd highly suggest staying away from the Orbi 770 with a network like that. You really should look into prosumer gear that's actually stable and performant for the price that new Orbi stuff costs. I went through multiple setups including Orbi and Eero before ending up with a full UniFi network. Should have just started with that but I was impatient and stuff was out of stock. With a UniFi system you can correctly segregate those 90 devices into deliberate VLANs while using the same SSID for everything so you don't have to change anything from the clients. Worth looking into.
r/orbi · Issues with Orbi 770 system. Return for refund? As it turns out, it affected wired in devices as well. Nothing was immune even after I did a wired backhaul and wired in my gaming devices. Same issue, just not as bad. UniFi stuff is great and that's a fine combo. If you set it and forget it on the latest release version you'll be fine. If you're a tinkerer though, then it's a giant gateway drug and rabbit hole.
r/orbi · Orbi 970 with Ubiquity ucg-fiber? I did this with Orbi 770. Didn't solve any of the reliability issues with the Orbi system for me. Then built out a full UniFi XG switching core too. Everything worked fine on that and solved the backhaul hourly lag / packet loss when fully wired. Didn't help with the wireless implications though, of course. Ended up on Eero Max 7 and Outdoor APs after that. Then full UniFi 7 stuff. Wish I would have just skipped ahead initially.

I disagree on mesh performance though. I'm mostly hard wired now but my one remote UniFi AP has far better backhaul speed and client speed than either orbi or eero could deliver at that distance, regardless of dedicated backhaul. Hell, orbi wouldn't even link in this geometry and distance. It depends on the scenario.

I spent way too much time and effort on trying various beta firmwares and even was in contact w/ somebody in engineering @ NG. No luck. Ran out of patience as it was affecting my work.

The wireless backhaul is impressive on the Orbi 770 system, however, there is a BIG issue with a 20-30 second interruption every 60-ish minutes on their mesh system that impacts all devices connected to the satellite(s). Running wired backhaul does improve this issue greatly, but it's still present for Wi-Fi devices and shows up as latency increase for wired satellite devices. Performance wise, I achieved about 400-500 Mbps backhaul in actual xfer speeds over usage that honestly is unsupported (through multiple exterior walls, glass, to a building 100 ft away). And yes, that hourly lag happened even on wired backhaul and when I set up the Orbis in a lab setting, before anybody asks.

I switched to Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro after having many, many issues with iOT devices and disconnects, especially when switching between satellites on the 770 system. I have no issues now. It’s about time same price as the 970 series and I appreciate the free parental controls and VPN, which both require subscriptions with Netgear

NETGEAR support was more interested in trying to get a floor plan of my house than actually helping (my issues had nothing to do with placement). They take forever to release new firmware and when they do, problems aren’t fixed and more problems are introduced. The price is crazy for a steaming pile of shit. I gave up and went back to Eero.

r/orbi · Orbi 770 strange behavior with unmanaged switches Interestingly enough, I did replace with some GS108s. The same problem came up, but it took a week. I would’ve never believed that there would be some odd compatibility problem between Netgear routers and Netgear switches, but everything works fine with my TP-Link switches. Hopefully it’ll get sorted out between future firmware updates and device updates as I’d like to upgrade everything to 2.5gb. I considered trying a TP-Link 2.5gb switch to see what happens, but everything is stable now and for now 2.5gb for wired backhaul is the most important. I suppose I’ll try again at some point in the future.

r/orbi · Sonos + Orbi 770 troubleshoot Yes. I had that same issue.! And I have a couple of solutions for you! I even contacted Sonos support and spent hours to find this. 1. So if you have a Sonos arc or surround system, the only good way to get it to work is too hard wire ethernet to the system. You only need one to be connected and the rest will connect with the Sonos internal wireless network, for example I have mine hardwired to the subwoofer and all my other components, such as the arc and my two surrounds communicate to the subwoofers internal networking system and then goes through the ethernet to my network. 2. I have also purchased a Sonos Move 2. So I have to contact Sonos customer service for this one, and the only option I had was either buy an adapter to hardwire that device to ethernet which defeats the purpose of being wireless and to actually “MOVE“ around. I have attempted to change every setting in my Orbi 770 with no success. I think it’s something to do with the mesh network, but I was unsuccessful. I had returned the product and got my money back. 3. They also suggested to purchase a different type of speaker that was able to move around, but stay plugged in to an outlet that was able to use the Sonos network that my subwoofer is broadcasting out and that is going to be another way to add another speaker within my home. I have declined. So to actually get your Sonos network working wirelessly with the 770 Orbi router is just 100% impossible. You can look around and see all the suggestions. Reddit and other forms have to offer, but I have tried them all. This isn’t the only thing that has issues with the Orbi router so I kind of blame Netgear on this for making a router that just doesn’t universally work. Unfortunately, I wish I was able to return my Orbi router and purchase a different brand such as unify, but that’s gonna be a long time from now since this router is very expensive. Good luck and again don’t trust what anyone else says if you have a chance to either return the router or the Sonos product if you need 100% wireless then do it

r/HomeNetworking · Advice on Mesh Network I am in the exact same boat. Posted almost the exact same question. Everyone will tell you to do uni with access points. Doesnt help because i have the understand level of a 5 year old with this stuff. Next most recommended was asus but their levels and packages are kind or confusing to figure out. I came to accept i am just joe-schmo with this stuff and for average joe with a 2300 square foot house that just wants his kids’ playstations to work and not interfere with my roku streaming that netgear orbi770 is more than i need. I may run some cables to the nodes if the need arises but my plan is to use it out of the box as is and call it a day. For tech wizards this is laughable. For average joe i think it will work flawlessly for 99% of us. Do with that info what you will. I had to stop tumbling down rabbit holes and just pick one and thats where i landed haha.

r/orbi · Orbi 970 WiFi dropping / support recommendation. The 970 has disconnection issues a lot of users have said the same thing is happening to them and no resolution yet. Most have said it’s firmware related which wouldn’t surprise me. The 770 has the same issues

After the reset don’t install the backup config file run everything from scratch and see if everything balances out prior to reinstalling that backup config file.

Like I said I had 3 installed in 3 separate locations and 2 of the 3 installs they returned them due to instability. It’s not just the Orbi systems the nighthawk wifi 7 models are having issues as well. They will get better no doubt I have the 960 system and it’s been solid on the older firmware as the even the newer firmware for those was atrocious. But we all know how it is sometimes the newer firmware firmware updates are great and sometimes not so much

r/orbi · Worst WiFi system - Orbi 770 Go figure! I bought the Orbi 770 early this year to replace my Linksys Velop Pro 7 MBE7000 for this same reason, constant disconnects requiring rebooting. For me, the Orbi fixed the problem wonderfully. Only strangeness I noticed with the Orbi was an almost daily 20 sec disconnect at night, which always came back on its own and seldom noticed.
r/Linksys · Issues with MESH WiFi disconnecting randomly. I had a three node MBE7000 system last year that did the same, continuing dropouts, doing everything I could think of to fix it. Calling support did not help. Factory resets did not help. Adding Ethernet backhaul didn’t help. Tweaking setting did not help. I finally attempted to return it within the 12 month warranty, only to learn that warranty did not apply if it was purchased new through Amazon rather than direct from the factory. I replaced the three node Linksys with Orbi 770 system and never had that problem again. I learned an expensive lesson.

I’ve used the Orbi 770 for three weeks so far, and the only disconnect I’ve seen is an occasional 10-15 sec loss of WiFi at night. No rebooting needed. That has not been a problem, and so far am very happy with it. But three weeks is not a long time. I’ve not used NordVPN.

I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and Netgear finally gave in and offered me a refund for this very defective product. I replaced it with a much cheaper TP-Link Deco system and all of my problems have been solved.

I asked them for a refund since I paid almost 900 dollars, and I don't have usable internet at my house, and they basically told me no. I've been a Netgear user for years, had zero problems with my old Orbi system, and was a huge advocate for their brand. It's so frustrating. I will absolutely never buy a Netgear product again.

r/orbi · Orbi 960 3-pack vs 870 3-pack? As others have commented, consider the 770 with 2 x satellites. I have this set up in my house since December 2024 and have had no issues with it whatsoever. Typically 60 devices connected (30 via WiFi) and a separate IoT channel for cameras, thermostats, smoke detectors etc Consistent speed both at the router and on device. I have full fibre 900Mbps up and down but usually hitting in the region of 950. It’s a good bit of kit and costs less than the 970 which I’m sure is great but I wouldn’t notice any difference.

I’m getting 900Mbps+ at the router (on a 900Mbos symmetrical up and down service) and typically 800Mbos to 350Mbos depending on where I’m am in / out of the house.

The set up process is so much quicker. You can then ditch the ether (if you can’t keep them wired together) and locate the satellite to the desired room.

The RBR50v2 was great that’s why I thought the 770 would be a no brainer. To answer your questions. Yes make the SSID the same but you also need to make sure the WPA version you use is compatible with all your devices. I initially went with WPA3 and ran into connection issues with some devices and could not figure out why for quite some time. Then I changed it to WPA2/3 which is a mixture of both and all was fine after that. However the dropped connections was the next issue. I tried all kinds of things to fix it. Did hours of research and gave the router 2 months cause I truly believed I could fix it. I thought the bad reviews about this issue was because people didn’t know what they were doing, but after 2 months I threw in the towel. Just so you know I’m not illiterate when it comes to tech. I’m usually pretty good. I’m no expert but I’m fairly tech savvy and am able to take things apart and understand the basics of how things work. My suspicion is that the 770 just has horrible firmware that tries too aggressively to put the device on the fastest available band and because of this, it keeps switching back and forth and causes your device to lose connection. If you use an ethernet cable to the router it’s not bad. The wifi is where the 770 is just horrible. Once I gave up and got the Eero Pro 7 with 2 satellites it’s been so smooth. No dropped signals and so easy to setup. Easier than the Orbi 770. I widh I just went with this Eero router to begin with. Would have saved so much time. But who knows, maybe you will have better luck. There are people out there that claim the 770 works fine for them so who knows. All I can do is tell you from my personal experience. Good luck 🍀.

r/orbi · Orbi 770 + 2 Satellites 10.5.20.10 FW says that is the latest firmware. Devices connected to both the RBR and RBS is the issue. I had 2 connections initially. Not by choice but that is what the router put out by default. The main connection and then this 2.4 EXT connection. There was also this 3rd one that I think is also from the router but not sure but it only started popping up since we set up this router and that one starts with NTGRBH and we never use that one. Anyway, the 2 connections go in and out of service meaning when we check the WIFI on our devices or if the device looses connection and we check the WIFI signals, it will disappear and reappear. Like right now the 2.4 ext connection wasn't showing so I had to refresh a few times then it shows up and then disappears again. So later what I tried because someone said this works is, create an IoT connection to handle things like security cameras and what not on a 2.4 ghz only connection and I put only those devices on it to see if it would help with the the devices or traffic as I had a feeling they were jumping from 2.4 to 5 or 6 ghz and that’s what was causing the drop in connection but nope. That didn’t help either. Even the IoT signal drops intermittently even the main router signal which I believe is the 5/6 ghz. They all appear and disappear constantly. As for wired, I think that works a lot better as I haven't heard anyone complain when they use the wired connection. Home is quite large. Probably around 4-5000+ sq ft. I have the router and the 2 satellites on opposite sides of the router. One about 25 feet away and the other about 40ft away. Never tried turning off the satellites. I think it’s only happening with wireless. I had devices only connect to the 5/6 ghz in the beginning but later I made that IoT signal to see if the security cams could go on a 2.4 ghz only signal and that didn’t help. I also made that because the cameras would lose connection and we couldn’t view live feeds sometimes. If there are neighbors, theres maybe 1 or 2 that pop up on our devices.usually only one. I disabled the mac randomizer on my phone a while ago. We don’t have Armor cause don’t you have to pay for that? Parental controls is not even setup. IPv6 I think was disabled but I have to check on my computer later as I can’t find that on the Orbi mobile app. I had traffic meter off before and recently just turned it on. So I just turned it back off.

The one hiccup was a device that had a static IP. It was a bit of a challenge getting that set up. Are your 80 devices work machines or are they mostly iOT? I have about 50 devices on. Y network and I probably should have gone with 870 for some future proofing.

Periodically like once a month, I had to do a soft reset on all the devices. Recently, that stop fixing the lag. I had had enough. The 770 is fast and working fine after 2 months. Best move I made this year.

r/orbi · How to upgrade smoothly a network with > 80 devices to an Orbi 770 with 2 satellites? For a 3k sq ft home, the RBR and just one RBS would be needed. You could have two however distances between the RBR and RBS and each other would need to be at least 30 feet or more. To make something seamless in transition, one can setup a new Orbi system off line from the ISP modem/ONT and get it setup for same network configuration and WIFI SSID name and password. Use channels far apart from existing system. Set up the system in same room or in a room away from the existing system. The incoming RBR and RBS can be configured here with a PC and web browser. Once set up, place the incoming RBS near the other RBS but don't power them on. Place the incoming RBS near the existing RBS. Power OFF all existing RBS. Have a ethernet PC connected to the existing RBR. Navigate to the modem/ONT web page and reboot it, or power it OFF for 30 seconds, then back ON. Once ON, quickly disconnect the existing RBR from the modem/ONT and connect the incoming RBR to the modem/ONT. Leave the existing RBR ON. Wait for the modem/ONT and incoming RBR to come to ready. Once ready and front LED is OFF on the incoming RBR, turn OFF the existing RBR. Most if not all devices should connect. Some may not due to distances. Now power ON the incoming RBS one at a time, if you have two. Give 1 minute before powering on the 2nd one. I'd give 10 minutes for the system to settle in. Check Internet services, RBR web page status and devices connected. All devices should be connected fully. Been using this process to put something new or different online for a while now. Works well. Save off a backup configuration to file for safe keeping. Helps if any factory resets are needed for troubleshooting.

I am happy with my change to Orbi 770.

r/HomeNetworking · Constantly having to reboot Orbi I reboot the primary node. I don't reboot the satellites. It all works great after that. For a few days then it all starts slowing down. I've gone so far as factory resetting the orbi twice.
r/orbi · Current deal Orbi 870 I think 99% of regular joe consumer users don't care about any of those issues you mention. Outdoor? Upgrading hardware? Who needs more than 3 satellites? I'm using an Orbi 770 3-node system with zero issues. I can get 1.5Gbps on my phone anywhere in the house and garage, on my 2Gbps fiber connection. I'm not a brand loyalist with Netgear. I've had TP Link, Eero and Google mesh systems and liked al of them. But to say to avoid Orbi because they don't do outdoor AP's - you're obviously a techie person, moreso than the regular consumer.

I had the exact same experience when upgrading from an old Orbi to the 770...random pauses, outages, etc, including after firmware upgrades...total garbage. Replaced it with a TP-Link and everything immediately ran smoothly.

r/orbi · Orbi 770 - WiFi Drops Every Hour I don't know what happened to the Orbi series but they are just absolute garbage now. I had an Orbi setup running for about a month then out of the blue it would drop connections every 60 mins. I tried every combination of firmware version and updating. Eventually they bit the ghost and now they just pulse white on bootup. There's some deep software or hardware flaw with some of these models. Just trash it and switch to something else, save the frustration.

r/orbi · Worst WiFi system - Orbi 770 I went from Asus's RoG mesh to Orbi 770, and instantly regretted it. My ultimate answer was to return the 770 set and finally concede on a Ubiquiti. Dream Router 7 + two Max Pro 7 APs, with some PoE switches powering the two APs while also driving the other ports from the AP itself. It's nowhere near as fast as the Asus setup across the APs (but probably would be if I could hardwire the backhaul), but it's FAR more stable.

r/orbi · real world difference in wireless vs wired backhaul for Orbi 770? I sold my orbi 770s because they sucked balls. Max I would get is 600MBs in my office on 2 GB service. This was with my doing direct ethernet to the satellite… satellite was on mesh. Constant drop outs, constant packet loss… etc. my PC was trying to use 6E . I switched over to a MoCA 2.5 adapter, now I’m getting 1.3 GB on a 1 GB service. No packet loss or anything. My home is large and has stucco exteriors, it’s older with thick walls and a triangle type of shape to it. So it’s not an easy house for mesh wifi. I highly recommend going MoCA when possible, it’ll be far superior to mesh and tight up there with Ethernet.

First thing i would definitely say is that with this new system i am getting ping spikes randomly, on my previous orbi i was not getting this at all. The only reason i upgraded my previous system was because that was gigabit, but my ISP provides me with 3GBPS up and down. I will say tho, the speeds between the router and satellite is amazing, but not ideal if you need low latency. I wanted to get the orbi 970 but it is very expensive.

I ran the RBK852 config for the past three years and it was absolutely rock stable. Never had any issues with it despite a house full of devices and multiple 4k streaming TVs. I was itching to try Wi-Fi 7 though as my Pixel 9 Pro comes with it. As luck would have it, I was gifted the Orbi 770 for Christmas. I ran benchmarking speed tests all over my house and yard with each setup. I'm on 1 gig fiber internet. To start, the 850 does have better max range. In most locations (short and medium distances) there's not much difference on the download speed, but at farther distances the 850 performed better. For example, on my outside patio I would get 40mbps with the 850 and 18 Mbps with the 770. Where the 770 really shines is in the consistency of both upload and download performance. With the 850 I would get something like 500mbps down and 300 Mbps up. With the 770 I get 480 down and 450 up. Imperceptibly less down performance, but way better up performance. I saw this pattern in every location around my house with the 770. I was nervous about the 770 using MLO for back haul instead of a dedicated channel like the 850, but the back haul works perfect. Satellite performance just has the same range limitations as the router, no fault of the back haul. I'm keeping the 770. I like knowing that my future devices will be on the newer 7 standard. For my house I don't need the absolute most amount of range. I just need solid performance within the walls and the 770 does that great.

We tried/tested the 770 setup (because we NEEDed that sweet WiFi 7... we didn't) and went back to our RBK863 system. Maybe we should break the 770 back out and try it again now, but for whatever reason (and I can't really give specifics, but the 863 system just "feels" like it works better) for us anyway. Not sure that helps in any way, but we tried a 770 setup and went back to the 863. (Realize its 853 vs 863 but it's what we have). MAYBE we used the 770 too early on in its release/development/firmware cycle (as they do tend to improve things some after initial FW release) but as I type, it is on the RBK863 system. (At least that was our experience, 1 adult, two constantly streaming/gaming young adults). We are using the RBK863 all wirelessly currently (no wired backhaul) and everything just works well, it's solid and stable and as intended and no one whines about internet as set up.

I di dhave issues with new iphones disconnecting but that happened with 970 as well until they pushed out new firmware and I relocated my satellites. Looks like 853 had better antennas compared to 770 and that might be the cause for range issues. 770 is considered an affordable Wifi 7 option so some compromise is to be expected I guess.

Is your orbi tri band or dual band? Mesh works by using one of the broadcast bands as backhaul. You might get a better connection between the nodes with tri band. Interested to see what others think

Usually they want to use an old satellite with a newer RBR to get better signal somewhere with hardware they already own. It’s not just outdoor access points that’s missing from their lineup but we can revisit the topic. orbi used to offer these, they stopped because they had problems manufacturing and supporting them properly - a common trend with orbi. There are also plenty of people who aren’t ‘techies’ who want better Wi-Fi in their yards, driveways …etc. Re: More than 3 satellites. there are plenty of people with home construction method/materials or design that make 3 access points a joke. Orbi doesn’t do any dedicated switched networking. Netgear obviously does, but then you lose the single pane of glass management of it all even when you stay in the netgear ecosystem. Plenty of people still want wired connections for stuff…etc at least that’s what I’m lead to believe and it’s not just my house. The biggest problem is Orbi charges too much for the average consumer and under delivers. Orbi also treated their customers as a subscription base to push that hot garbage monthly Armor subscription for what most people would think of as basic features of a network controller. Orbi removes existing features listed from product release with firmware updates so they can stop fixing bugs you report on them. Orbi _really_ sucks of if you don’t want them to be a “router”, and you just want it to manage the wifi part. Watch it remove nearly any idea of any features. If you have more complex networks have fun when it’s starts doing STP wrong because lord knows they just love to reset the rbr to the root bridge priority with firmware updates. Which is a problem when you need the wired backhaul between rbr and rbs to get the speed. When you identify a bug, Orbi support is horrible. Ignoring my own issues with them for a moment - I think this sub is going on a _decade_ of people posting “why does the mobile app say my satellite is offline when it’s not” followed by all the “known bug” comments on here. That’s not a show stopper but it speaks volumes on Orbi’s ability to provide a polished customer experience at their _premium_ price point. How about the famous zoom jitter on Orbi 770 / 970 that’s 100% a firmware issue on the Orbi side? Orbi and Netgear as a larger group also does some of the more misleading “wifi 7” advertising of the lot ([see Rtings putting multiple vendors on blast with mlo stuff](https://www.rtings.com/router/learn/research/wifi-7-mlo)) . It’s a rabbit hole to start jumping down but the short version is “WIFI 7” means the marketing department got involved vs “Wi-Fi 7” and “Wi-Fi 7 certified” means it actually meets some or all of the Wi-Fi alliance standards. The average joe might not notice, idk. But we know netgear and orbi get put on blast for being shady AF about their “WiFi 7” labeling. Not just the mlo stuff, but whatever. In short, Orbi is Unifi money with Eero features with twice the bugs. Hell their 970 I think is boarder line Meraki / Aruba pricing. A short version is - why not either save a bunch of money and get a similar set of a features. Or pay the same money and get into an ecosystem that gives you future flexibility with other types of hardware, can scale further, and has significantly more features?

r/orbi · Sonos + Orbi 770 troubleshoot Wow. Thats crazy! The whole reason I went with Sonos was for its supposed ease of use. And the whole reason I chose this Orbi was because it was supposed to be future-proof. Who would’ve known the two wouldn’t work together. Since my router is a little ways away from my surround system, and I refuse to run an Ethernet cable that distance, sounds like my best bet is to buy something like the Sonos Ray (cheapest they make with a port) just to hardwire an Ethernet into. Absolute insanity.

Here’s my experience: I bought two Orbis and noticed that my computer connects to the unit acting as a relay. The main Orbi is located one floor above, separated by a ceiling. When I’m connected to the relay, internet browsing feels noticeably less responsive than when I connect directly to the main Orbi. Even though the ping looks good, the connection doesn’t feel as fast as when I’m connected to the main unit. I assume Orbi systems work best in open spaces without physical obstacles. I have a 1,000 Mbps internet connection. When connected to the main Orbi, I get around 930 Mbps, which is excellent. However, when connected to the relay, I only get about 600 Mbps—far below what is often shown in YouTube tests. Additionally, when running Ookla speed tests, the results are much less stable compared to when I’m connected to the main Orbi. A few times, the relay even started blinking white, indicating that it was trying to reconnect.

I think I'll save myself the headache and just return the Orbi. Unfortunately, now I've missed BF special pricing, but better to have a working network. Any other tips on the UniFi? The way I'm reading that, the issue is related to wireless devices connecting to the satellite furthest from the base. My issues happen even with devices connected to the satellite via ethernet. Are you happy with your UniFi setup? I'm looking at a UniFi dream router 7 and 2x UniFi 7 Pro APs as a possible replacement. Not sure if that's a good complement as they don't seem to sell bundled gear. TP-Link is also on my short list.

I also had an issue where when I turned off DHCP because I already have a router (TP Link) in my network panel. You’re not suppose to have the second system with DHCP on. However, whenever I turned it off I started having disconnects. Like big time, every few hours. The 770 router would disconnect from the internet and then the satellites (wireless) So I left it on and it’s been rock solid since. Go figure.

My iPhone 14max pro kept disconnecting. It showed on the Orbi app that the Orbi was not connected to the internet. However, on my iPad it was showing it was connected! After much head scratching I noticed that my iPhone had VPN (Norton 360) on. I turned it off but it kept trying to reconnect. So I deleted the app. Now everything works fine. Seems strange that VPN is causing a problem.

I was having similar issues and rolled back firmware then upgraded again to the latest then factory reset and seems to be working well now. The system is also very picky about satellite placement 30 feet away, closer and they interfere, farther and the signal randomly drops. I am less than impressed for $800 but seems to be working for me at the moment.

r/orbi · Orbi 770 in AP-mode, is it stable? I have no issues whatsoever with a three node 770 mesh in a 100 year old building made out of reinforced concrete. But 6,000 sq ft is a lot of ground to cover, so it would depend on the house layout how good the coverage will be.

I'm going to buy it around Black Friday - Cyber Monday, I appreciate the admonition (BEWARE) BUT THEN I had EXACTLY the same warnings with my current Netgear RBR50 (and satellites) when I bought them 8 YEARS AGO and haven't had ONE issue since that time. Sorry for the good review, but I suppose no one is going to post something like "BEWARE: Orbi 770 is absolutely phenomenal". That just doesn't happen; only folks who are dissatisfied post all over the joint so we get a skewed perspective. I also feel compelled to add that I have looked at other mesh systems and most seem to be lacking a couple of features that are total deal breakers for me. One is the lack of a web UI (so you need to set up the system with your phone - no thanks) and the other is the lack of more than one ethernet port on the routers (I need 3). FWIW

r/orbi · Worst WiFi system - Orbi 770 I upgraded from an ORBI AC3000 setup to the 770 last week (due to Netgear stopping support on the old device). Installation was super easy — almost idiot-proof. Connectivity was seemless, except for one device that was initially wonky. I think it was linked to the router and not the satellite, so I turned WiFi off on the device then on again, and the problem went away. This one-satellite setup works extremely well in my two-bedroom condo with lots of concrete.

The internet stutters constantly, and it took a month of phone tag with netgear to replace my satellite, that didn’t fix the issue. Return it.

Just over $1k for the Orbi RBE771 mesh (1 main, 2 sats). 40+ year old home with solid walls and floors. Google setups never dropped anything, but limited me to 100mbs in most rooms of our 3,500sft home. I get near our full gig of fiber on this Orbi setup, but I drop or majorly lag zoom calls all day. /endrant Do you mind sharing what Unify equipment you went with? They’re now offering WiFi 6 APs and unsure if anyone has had success using them.

r/orbi · Orbi 770 Satellite kinda maybe works on 970 system Hi, good catch. When you enable 240MHz it changes 5GHz channel from 40 to 104 on the 770 with 240MHz bandwidth. On 970 it changes it from 157 to 104 with 240MHz bandwidth. Now due to firmware differences I due expect some stability/reliability issues. Keep us updated if run to any issues though! Will be good to have as a data point.

I am trying to cancel the Armor subscription, via the Orbi app 'Subcriptions' option, so that it does not auto renew and so I do not get billed. However, conveniently for Netgear, whenever I get to the final prompt and click on 'cancel subscription anyway', it says "Something went wrong. Please try again'. Anyone experience this issue? Going to create a separate thread for that issue since it is not related to this thread, but figured would ask here in the meantime.

Interesting that some are seeing issues with BE wifi on certain mobile devices and others are not. This is why I am considering still trying the 770. My biggest concern is if the antennae (intentional plural spelling) in the 770 are a downgrade (as it has been reported they may be), since wifi range is a huge factor for me (and why I moved away from my traditional (at the time) stand-alone router setup years ago and switched to Orbi's mesh-like design). Tough decision.

r/orbi · Orbi 770 versus Orbi 850 (RBK853) - wifi range to satellites? About 3100 sq feet, NOT including a large finished basement which has lots of wireless devices also (s o3 stories to cover). I think the theoretically is the key / operative word there. I tested my Netgear A8000 Wiif 6E adapter in the same room as the RBR850 router and it did not get anywhere near what I get via LAN (around 1.5 Gbps - a bit less since I am capped at around 1,400 Mbps (but one of my programs says I am getting 1.5 Gbps during a download). I do not have a lot of wifi 7 devices yet, except for my laptops which is where I need it most anyway. My desktop is on a LAN connection anyway and other devices get more than enough throughput with my RBK853. That said, aside from getting wifi 7 (which I could wait for till I have more wifi 7 devices), **my bigger / main reason for getting the 770 right now is to get rid of the extra clutter and reliance on the the 2nd router (Flint-2). I would normally just wait to do so, but the sale price of the 770 couple with a coupon and factoring in the resale of my Flint 2 and Orbi RBK853, now would not be that bad of a time to jump** (I know there is always going to be newer tech coming down the pike, but that is a never ending chase then, if you always wait). But the 30 percent of 1-star and 1-star reviews of the Orbi 770 reviews have me leery. So I need to check some more real world reviews, especially if I can find reviews of the 770 vs 850 which compare the range of the 2. I check Ndong Ngo's site, but no comparison reviews.

The Eero 7 is much faster"* Reviewer 2 - "*Would not purchase again. Bought to replace 5 year old netgear nighthawk equipment. This was not a upgrade, coverage is not better and intermittent connectivity is a issue. Will drop on some things but not other then vice versa while sitting beside each other and connected the same way. "* Reviewer 3 - "*I had an existing Orbi AC1300 system with 2 satellites. I put the new 770 devices in the exact same spots in my house (which does have some brick interior walls) and had nothing but problems... slow speeds, weak signal, questionable handoffs, etc."* I am used to seeing some users with complaints / issues (even for products like my Orbi 853 which has been stellar); however the 770 seems to have a disproportionately high percentage of users saying it does not work well in terms of range or stability. r/orbi · Orbi 770 Ethernet Backhaul in AP Mode Update… Decided to buy it and try it. Works well. Had to set it all up as a router+2 satellites first, then set it to AP mode. So, had to blow up my physical network a bit to set up as default before I was able to set it to AP mode then plug it all back in. Guest network works. Still have lots of wifi settings/options, which is good (eg. channel choice) and the satellites have a functional 2.5gbe wired backhaul through unmanaged switches. The one thing I don’t love is the manual wants you to set it up with the “router” being last device before your gateway; even when it’s all in AP mode. I haven’t tried not having it setup this way, with a switch between the “router” and the gateway, but I might try it in the future. Been running solid so far as is.

Same with the ethernet back haul when in AP mode. Having a direct Ethernet connection vs through an unmanaged switch isn’t practical, so I’m just hoping the back haul works the same in AP mode as when being used as a router and satellites. Might have to just buy it and try it.

But I solved it by repositioning the devices to the extreme ends of the house. I did verify I had no issue when both satellites were powered off, then repositioned and tested them one at a time. Might be worth an hour to try.

Having 2 GB Fiber installed next week and think the number of fast ports on the main and satellite is better than 770. Have Cat 6 cable in the house, so would be connecting the satellite thru Cat 6. Also connect my Mac Mini with 10gbe connection. Think the 970 is best option. Looked at other brands too, but always have good luck with Orbi’s.

r/orbi · 770 Uploads are slower When I had the Deco BE95 or the BE85 the speeds were so impressive, WiFi to the various laptops were at full speed, totally took advantage of my internet, however the Orbi 770 leaves allot to the imagination. Also want to take it back, but I tried the Asus BQ16, TP Link Deco BE95 2 pack Macbook Pro could not see the SSID, and finally the Deco BE85 3 Pack again MacBook Pro could not see the SSID, Deco tech support kept telling me to download this beta and that beta firmware, but it was a pain, my cameras would have issues.

r/orbi · BEWARE: Orbi 770 is absolute trash. Netgear support is even worse. TBH, I basically stream my work laptop and I find that it works well for me. I use the 770 with 2 satellites. It took a while to set up, but it doesn't drop.
