Google Nest Wifi Pro

Google Nest Wifi Pro, packshot

Yeah people who keep saying I just got a lemon driving me a bit nuts. If this many people are having issues it's not an isolated "lemon" it's a bad product build.

r/googlehome · Google Wifi Pro is terrible

If you read other reviews of the product and comments here, it's not just me experiencing this. So if it is a lemon, then Google is sure is cranking out a high rate of lemons. Terrible quality control.

r/googlehome · Google Wifi Pro is terrible

If I got a lemon it seems like a lot of people got lemons and maybe Google just has really poor quality control on these things? Because at least every other day one of the 3 Pro routers would fail and crash everything that was connected to it.

r/googlehome · Google Wifi Pro is terrible

Yeah, it's not a speed issue, it's a reliability issue. When I run speed tests I get about the same speeds as you. The issue is one or more of the meshes in the system crashing, and thus crashing all the devices connected to that node.

I was lucky to find 1 cable run from the dining room closet to the basement. Means my Plex server in the living room has full cat5e speed downstairs to my mini PC + DAS 5 Bay drive. I am so close to getting someone to come in and professionally get wires up to mine and my wife's office rooms. My puck will do around 250mpbs up here but it can get saturated with WiFi devices sometimes. Wired back haul would kick ass if/when I do it. So enjoy the speed!

    r/GoogleWiFi · Wired backhaul - game changer!

Wired back haul means your mesh node is connected to router with ethernet. Usually mesh device with communicate both directions with wireless which is inherently slower than wired. Wireless is half duplex(though newer technologies are full duplex). They still are not able to consistently transmit at 1gb, which the backhaul likely is linking at. Wired anything will always be faster, for the next few years anyway.

r/HomeNetworking · Google Nest Wifi Pro causes bufferbloat – ISP line is A, Ethernet to router is B, but WiFi is D. Time to replace the Google Nest mesh system?

Makes sense, unfortunately wiring isn't an option for me (no coax either). I have kids gaming in both the basement and on the 1st floor, so I'm dependent on WiFi delivering decent latency. Would dedicated APs still be a meaningful improvement over Google Nest Wifi Pro in that scenario?

r/HomeNetworking · Google Nest Wifi Pro causes bufferbloat – ISP line is A, Ethernet to router is B, but WiFi is D. Time to replace the Google Nest mesh system?

Never actually tried dedicated APs – I kept the Google nodes in place (they refused to go into AP mode and stayed in NAT, creating double NAT). I did try a GL-iNet GL-MT3000 with CAKE/SQM upstream, but that made things worse for the same reason. Any router + AP recommendations? Budget \~$500–700, wired runs to basement and living room already in place.

With two wired runs already there, I wouldn't buy another sealed mesh box. I'd switch to a real router that can do SQM, then use boring APs for the floors, because Google is doing the NAT queueing and the Wi-Fi part badly at the same time. Merlin/Asus can work, but the bigger fix is splitting router and AP duties instead of hoping the next kit is less annoying.

I have a decently large (newly built home) and a big backyard with pool and structure and needed wifi for outdoor TVs, Sonos, etc. It took me no joke SEVEN of the Google WiFi pro’s ALL HARDLINED back to the networking room switch to get coverage on our property. That’s about how good they work. If you can do a wired backhaul or whatever it’s called , you can get pretty good performance. I was going to switch to the higher orbi’s or EERO max 7s, but with those I was going to need 4. It was going to be too expensive to switch because I already had so much Google stuff. Additionally Google WiFi mesh has been notoriously bad with Sonos. It’s finally starting to work better. We would have rooms just disappear from the system despite the Google home app showing them connected to the internet.

yeah I know that, but I've had various actual IT professionals over at the house trying to figure out the best configuration. Any less than this amount and there are dead zones on my property that get zero signal. My home sorta defies logic. The wifi signal doesn't even make 30 ft down the hall to my office from the networking area that has the main router. We at least get 600-800MBPs up and down nearly at every corner of the property now. Google wifi pro is supposed to get up to 1GB I think? And our house has 2GB wired....but 600MB is enough for all practical stuff that is going on at our home. We have a ton of devices and frequently have a lot of people at our home. And finally we have it working stable

This is not correct, I have plenty of older security cameras including Arlo ones that use 2.4 and the WiFi 7 router from spectrum is band steering them to the correct band. I also had an nest WiFi pro system with 3 nodes and it is nice but if you have Gig like me the nest WiFi pro will cost you speed your paying for as my system even plugged in to the main node could only get 750mb down where the Spectrum one also hardwired and wireless gave me 1150mb down no issues and everything connected right up when I switched the SSID to the same as my old network.

r/HomeNetworking · Google Nest Wifi Pro causes bufferbloat – ISP line is A, Ethernet to router is B, but WiFi is D. Time to replace the Google Nest mesh system?

The Google units are definitely not helping but there's a good chance that even if you buy another set of mesh units, you're going to see the same problem. The main problem is doing this over WiFi and WiFi is an unstable medium, especially if you have lots of neighbours (congestion/interference). I previously had a set of Unifi APs (with all wired backhauls) throughout the home, had bufferbloat issues. I ended up wiring up the machine affected by bufferbloat the most and the bufferbloat issue vanished, went from an F to an A on the bufferbloat test. Initially I thought it was an issue with my Opnsense router (with & without QoS enabled) but it truly was WiFi and my neighbourhood is not very congested as I don't live in a big city. I have since upgraded to Grandstream APs which allowed me to wire in that device without doing another ethernet run from the switch. Haven't tested over WiFi as I already solved my issue.

    r/Ubiquiti · 3x Unifi Express 7 a good idea?

The appeal of UniFi is being able to customize your networking perfectly for a particular location. Well, it is to me, anyway. I don’t find the idea of saving a few bucks to make the setup half done and “nest” like appealing. PoE is a big part of what makes this work well.

r/TpLink · Should Deco x55 WiFi 6 mesh system suffice for 3 floor house?

\> What's their current Internet speed? Current internet speed: gigabit \> Are there a lot of data intensive tasks or devices in the network? No, there are not a lot of data intensive tasks. However they have many smart devices. I am trying to get an exact number but I would guess around 20 smart devices. \> Are you planning on wirelessly meshing the system or hardwiring each node (if you opt for the 3 pack)? The plan is to wirelessly mesh the system. Hardwiring each node would require ethernet wiring between floors or across a floor. Wireless daisy chain is the plan. \> to upgrade their Internet to anything higher than gigabit speeds I don't think they will get anything better an gigabit speeds for awhile imo. They are a little more suburban, borderline rural. I mostly just want to make sure this is as good as we can get for a reasonable price given how awful the Google Nest Wifi Pro was. They consistently would get 20mbps download AT BEST in the second floor living room, even after moving around the nodes as much as we could.

I read many poor things about Google Wi-Fi routers and I took the plunge anyways to see it for myself how bad they potentially are. For me it’s fine I’m a heavy gamer and big smart home user. It’s honestly been a better WiFi mesh router then others I bought and returned such as eero, and TP-Link. I have no issues, my only complaint is I wish it was a little more involved with settings but it’s simple interface is very unique compared to anyone else on the market and uses the Google smart home app. My speeds are flying, I personally got it because all the crap going on with TP-Link. I wanted to like eero but they are no good tbh. I don’t regret my decision with the google mesh router, I got the 6E version.

They don't load up on the Google home app favorites screen as fast as the nest wifi pro. It's just my experience. I'm assuming there is something on the nest wifi pro that makes it more compatible? Not sure. But based on experience, on the nest wifi pro, the live views are already on the GH widget. The be25 takes time to load when I turn the app on.

    r/TpLink · Deco BE25

Coming from a nest wifi pro, this I have a 3 mesh be25. So far, the range proves to be faster and wider. I'm still getting the rest of my iot devices up to see stability. The reason I was on nest wifi pro (gave up asus zenmax wifi) because the nest wifi is super stable with all my cast devices as I love having speakers everywhere, plus the lights stability. So far the be25 is holding up with the exception of some devices I need to wake up to register them on this new router. I have 2 wifi 7 clients, and placed them on MLO network. Pretty stable and fast going room by room. Maybe the only thing I'm missing from the nest wifi pro is how snappy all my devices are in Google Home, especially the nest doorbells and cameras. Overall, it's great. Again this is coming from a nest wifi pro which is also dual band but only 6e vs wifi7 on the be25.

If you plan on using a different router and just want these as AP's you will get a double NAT problem that can't be resolved. One of these have to be your main router to work properly and not work simply as wireless access points.

My honest review and issues of things that annoyed me after a few years: \- Had excellent coverage in a 2600 and 3200 sq ft home with 3 of these. 1000/40 WAN service. I purchased all 3 right when they were launched. \- Wireless mesh isn't bad, but wired backhaul is fantastic. I used MoCa 2.5 adapters to use existing coax. \- Their QoS isn't great, and you have little to no ability to control it. Bufferbloat is a real issue when you're saturating the full 1Gbps. Starts to kick on around 500Mbps, maybe 25ms... +300ms at full link saturation. This was caused by the router itself, nothing else. I even connected a PC directly to it with no other nodes setup...same issue. PC direct to the cable modem, and the issue disappeared. \- You can change the DNS, but it'll still hands out its own internal DNS (192.168.86.1 by default) to clients. So, if you're running adguard or pihole on a different system, all DNS requests will come from the router and not from individual clients. I absolutely hated this, but if you don't run your own DNS... this doesn't matter. I ended up giving mine to my mom when she upgraded to 150/20 service. She's never going to notice the bufferbloat, and couldn't give a darn about the DNS issue. Works perfectly for her. I liked them a lot, but wouldn't recommend them for someone that has above 500Mbps speeds and expects to keep low latency gaming.

It’s difficult to get support for google products. Sometimes It takes several google searches figure out how to get google device support. Even then, If I got someone on the phone, they just got all my information and said they couldn’t assist me, told me they would call me back, never did. However I would argue support will likely be just as bad or worse for any company with a similar product in this day and age.
