If someone cares a lot about wireless backhaul, has no 6E devices and there’s a lot of 2.4 & 5ghz devices / interference around my network. Would you say the jump from Pro 6 to Pro 6E is worth it, primarily for the backhaul?

Very good review. I have been trying to get more folk to adopt the flent suite of tests, in particular, the "rtt\_fair" test lets you test the tcp performance of multiple stations at the same time, and is a good indicator of how well a given wireless network can scale with lots of devices. It's part of this test suite: https://www.cs.kau.se/tohojo/airtime-fairness/ Flent's ability to do comparison plots is especially useful. As one recent example, I used it to benchmark the fq\_codel and cake implementations here: [https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=179307](https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=179307) I'd also used it heavily (the rrul, tcp\_nup, and tcp\_ndown tests) in trying to evaluate the eero 6's SQM implementation. I'd love to get results back from someone on the 6E and 6+. The apple responsiveness result over wifi seems poor, I don't know why, I note that that test suite is under heavy development.

Great review, thank you. I just bought a 3 pack of the 6 (one router and 2 extenders). I have 2 of the 6+ coming to compare against. I also bought an extra 6 router so I could try wired backhaul with 2x 6 nodes which would place the gateway router at one end of the house and then the other wired 6 in about the middle. With this 2 node set up I only just miss out on full coverage in a room I’m trying to get full bars.  I plan to test the 6+ in the same wired configuration. Do you think the 6+ will offer a slightly better range and connection for wired back haul and are they worth it? For reference, here the 3 pack of 6s is about $50 aud cheaper than the 2 pack of the 6+.  I have tried doing 2 of the wired 6s then an extender node in the problem room. While it does ensure full bars, the speed drops to about 150mbps. When just using the 2 wired nodes, connecting to the node in the centre of the house gives me 300mbps but I lose a bar of signal. I hate to lose more speed with the extra node, but that one extra bar is what I’m trying to achieve when in that room I have devices connected to my phone I need to stay connected.

Most people don't need 7 or 6e. If your pipe is less than 1gbps you're fine with 6 or 6 pro, maybe even 5 or 5 pro (not called that but you know which one I mean)

    r/amazoneero · New Eero Pro 6e experience! →2022-11-28T08:23:09

Do you have Optimize for conferencing and gaming enabled? Eero 6 can only manage it at 500mbps, past that it’s useless. Eero 6E can manage it at Gigabit but even Eero support says there isn’t a reason for it to be enabled past 500mbps.

r/amazoneero · Did I make a huge mistake? Kept Pro 6E and returned Nest Pro, significantly worse performance... →2022-11-18T19:57:13

As you point out, this really depends more on the building architecture than square footage. I have a 2500 sqft home plus another 1250 of concrete walled basement (where the gateway lives). Even with an eero 6 on all three floors, I didn’t get reliable wifi to the front of the garage for my Nest webcam, and I needed a fourth unit. In theory, I could have moved the eeros around, but that’s a lot of power and copper rewiring. Had the upgrade that includes Echo Dots come out earlier, I would have considered using one as the fourth extender.

r/eero · Eero Pro 6E and Eero 6+ Review: Fast and Easy →2022-04-05T16:01:14

Great Review. Yeah I use Orbi now but looking at going to the eero 6E due to it looks like it has good performance plus the 6E 3 Pack is $700 compraied to Orbi $1500 for their 6E 3 pack. Also we have a new fiber provider that uses eero and they include some of the eero extra protection features in your bill which is nice. I haven't really looked at Asus that much it looks like a decent product as well as TP Link. Overall it just seem eero you get alot for your dollor they have good hardware and their app is by far better than the Orbi one. So right now I'm leaning towards the Eero 6E 3 pack look forward to trying it out. Again thanks for all the info you provided.👍

r/eero · Why People post bad review without actually test it? When I was reading the reviews and I noticed this one. He claimed he would update the review after he tested the EERO Pro 6E. I really feel like this review is not appropriate, but Amazon actually approved it. →2022-03-30T06:02:55

I have eero 6 and I am also not very happy with their performance. I live in 85sq.m have a router and a satellite and my performance in some of the rooms is pretty bad, constant packet loss and the jitter varies a lot. Tested it with my desktop and Laptop, under Linux and Windows, using WiFi6 cards

r/HomeNetworking · Best mesh WiFi system for a large house with dead zones and multiple floors? →2025-09-20T22:26:04

As several have stated, you can use practically any of the mesh brands, but don’t use the mesh feature. Instead use wired Ethernet backhaul to connect the satellite units to the main router. I’ve had good experiences with eero for this purpose. Super simple to administer and the speeds are great. I have 7 total units, all of them are eero 6 models, which were super cheap (~$70 each). Ubiquiti is like CrossFit.

    r/amazoneero · Eero 6+ and Pro 6E Thoughts? →2025-02-26T21:50:06

Pro 6E might be overkill if you only have 500mb service. 6+ is only dual band. So the Regular Eero 6 Pro might be the sweet spot. Because it's discontinued, you'll likely buy it second hand at a discount. Just make sure it's not an ISP locked unit. Otherwise, if you're tech savvy, you can install OpenWrt on the TP routers and bypass their firmware.

    r/amazoneero · Researching Buying Eero System →2025-02-10T18:17:03

I can only speak about the eero 6’s that I own and they have served me well. I have 1 gateway and 4 slaves across 1 acre lot and 3000sqft house. Everything works perfect. I’m on 500mbps service and about 40-50 Wi-Fi devices. Only issue I ever had was a gateway that went bad, so I replaced it and it operates as a slave with no issues. 3 tv’s in the house , one on the back porch and one in my shop and have had all 5 streaming via Wi-Fi at the same time without issue. Various Mac devices, iPad’s, phones, cameras, pool equipment, light switches, plugs, security equipment, etc all online with no issues. If/when I have issues I’ll probably still go with the cheapest available option of Eero. FWIW, I bought refurbished equipment initially about 5 years ago and still going strong. Maybe I got lucky after hearing about all of the issues. Good luck!

r/eero · My Review: From Eero Pro to Eero 6+ (substantial upgrade!) →2022-03-29T01:24:08

Day two, with some position tweaks, numbers are even better. One thing that I did think about, is that since it's 160ghz it pretty much has to work in the DFS band. If you have DFS strikes, you'd be back down to 80mhz and you might be better off with a 6 Pro or 6E. The 6+ would more or less be nerfed down to a Eero 6 if you're in a DFS no go zone.

    >The online consensus seems to be if you have no wired backhaul… 6E might be the best option. Ok this is what I wanted to hear >The gateway is reporting half the DL speed I had before the upgrade. I am starting to wonder/hope though if this is a bug in the app. I hope so too. There were definitely some issues when 6 was first released so probably the same thing.

    r/amazoneero · Pro 6E (x2) and 6+ (x2) - worth $200? →2026-06-02T19:29:28

Personally, I wouldn’t pay for used eero systems (especially since they’re older now). I had eero 6 for 3 years. 3100 sq ft. 3 floors. Only needed 2 devices. Worked great until last year. Firmware updates weee being pushed all the time, but right after firmware updates, my devices would drop and wouldn’t stay connected. For example, tv would just drop connection and it was unusable. This spread to computers, speakers, etc. We have 20+ devices on our mesh. Some apple, speakers, windows devices, etc. All were affected. I would have to forget the network. Clear network cache on each device, and reconnect. Unbelievable pain with so many devices. When that didn’t work, eero support asked I turn off IPv6, turn off client steering, turn off mesh. And then reset the network as a whole. It just got to be too much. They didn’t know whzt was wrong. Asked to try to go to an older firmware. No permanent fixes. I switched to deco 7 pro. 2 units for around $250. Personal opinion, you don’t need 4 eero devices for the size of your home. Eero actually also asked me to disconnect a device to see if it would help. That said, I’m 2 months into deco and they work great! Eero support was friendly in most cases, but when they can’t diagnose and issue without stripping my internet down and turning off features… just not gonna work. Hope this helps. I know I’m gonna get some hate from eero fans. Again, it worked great for a couple years, but something went wrong in their firmware. Hope no one else shares my experience, but this is what happened. Hope this helps
