Amazon Eero Pro 6

Amazon Eero Pro 6, packshot

r/amazoneero · Would you recommend moving from Eero Pro 6 -> Eero Max 7?

I upgraded from Pro 6 to Max 7 last January. My Pro 6s was mostly stable, but when I started having dozens of devices suddenly dropping off randomly and having to reboot everything multiple times, I had enough and even considered switching brands. I decided to give the Max 7s a shot almost solely because the upgrade process is so easy and pain free, and when you’ve got a lot of WiFi connected smart devices you really want zero pain. Turns out I made the correct decision because my network has never been more stable and the speeds are great. I have a pure wireless backhaul and consistently get over 900Mbps download on my 1.4 gig service. Be aware that the Max 7 units are significantly larger than the Pro 6 units.

    r/amazoneero · 6E>7 Pro or 7 Max setup

Max has the best range. It also has a 4x4 5ghz radio. When I went from a 4x4 to 2x2 in the Pro 7 my speeds halved on the 5ghz band. Has other benefits as well that would work well with wifi 7. Definitely pricey though. I just went from pro6 to pro6e for a few weeks and now I'm trying the pro 7. The pro6e put out a faster 5ghz speed than the 7 interestingly. The range on both were good but the 7 is better for 6ghz. If you already own the 6e I'd just keep it Unless you have a few wifi 6e/7 products for the 6ghz. My pro6 is the best for 5ghz which blows my mind but they are fantastic little routers.

    r/amazoneero · 6E>7 Pro or 7 Max setup

No the range between the models definitely changes. The max has the best range and speeds with their 4x4 radios for 5ghz and 6ghz compared to 2x2 for the rest of the models on everything. Plenty of individuals have tested it out to confirm that. I personally have seen a huge decrease in range speeds when they use 2x2 radio vs a 4x4. The pro 6 had 2 5ghz bands and one was 4x4. Still the strongest performer for me today under a gig.

    r/amazoneero · Poe 7 or Max 7 mesh system

All eero routers are mesh systems when using more than one unit. The eero PoE 7 and eero Pro 7 are the same in terms of performance. The PoE version is just flatter and able to be powered over ethernet, making it more suited for wall mounted installs. As for the eero Max 7, it has extra radios that allow it to reach higher maximum speeds and provide a slightly larger coverage footprint, but there still few consumer devices that take advantage of this (and even fewer that actually need it, imo). If I’m being honest with you, I can’t even tell the difference between my eero Pro 6 setup and my eero Pro 7 setup. My use cases simply don’t push these systems hard enough. I would say save some money and go with the PoE 6 if you’re not on a multi-gig fiber connection.

    r/amazoneero · Pro 6 or Pro 6e?

The Pro 6E will not get you better range, even with your client device & use case otherwise unknown. IF you have 6E/6 GHz clients, and IF you'll be very close to the Pro 6E gateway (same room with zero obstructions), you may benefit from a Pro 6E. Otherwise, the 5 GHz hardware in the Pro 6 is superior to the 5 GHz hardware in the Pro 6E. With the processor implementation overall being superior in the Pro 6 as well.

    r/amazoneero · Eero Max 7 vs Pro 7 - speed and range on 5ghz

Max 7 5 GHz range is more or less equivalent to the 5 GHz high radio on the Pro 6, which is to say, very good. Performance is much better if using wireless backhaul, about the same for 80 MHz clients using wired backhaul, better for 160 MHz clients using wired backhaul. Skip the Pro 7, the hardware is not as good and it had had nebulous issues that never affected the Max 7. You might not even need a node in your basement, try it with just two Max 7 nodes initially and go from there.

r/Ubiquiti · Is Unifi Express a good replacement for Google WiFi Mesh Router?

There was someone that recently posted either in this sub or r/HomeNetworking that they were using two Express routers in a similar configuration to what you're asking about. I suspect it depends on the devices, applications, network usage requirements, etc to truly know whether it will work. The Express are really meant for a smaller footprint, lower usage that some of the other alternatives like the UCG-Ultra and UCG-Max. Alternatively, you could look at Eero as a one-stop solution using the Eero Pro 6 or Pro 6E. I'd avoid the 6 and 6+. Too many issues with those models. And it should fit your budget.

r/amazoneero · Bought an Eero Pro 7 and some devices improved while others worsened?

This is 100% true. I just went though it switching from an eero pro 6 3-pack to an eero pro 7 3-pack. My pro 6 network was rock-solid but i upgraded my isp speed to 5gig so the pro 7 upgrade was necessary. Looking at the WiFi analytics over the first couple of days on the pro 7, there was a lot of device intereference and noise, especially on the 2.4 GHz band. Some of my cameras were dropping off the network and I wasn’t seeing the speeds I expected over WiFi either. By day 3 the eeros had optimized themselves and I my network was back to being solid. Interference and noise reduced significantly and WiFi speeds were more in line with expectations.

eero is great for parents because it is very set-it-and-forget-it and takes care of itself. eero pro 6 has worked out great for my parents for the past 4 years. I'd suggest you keep the Orbi for yourself and the them the eero. Then in a few years if the Orbi no longer meets your needs, you can upgrade yourself to whatever the latest thing is.

Yup I guess make sure client steering is on and maybe that can help but in my experience with 5 Eero pro 6 in an older 1800s house that has about 6 google nest outdoor cams, you either have to restart the eero they’re all glued to and then the cameras on their own pick the closest/best eero for them or just wait it out and see if they do it on their own…I love the frequent eero firmware updates but it causes this headache all the time for me

I went from 3x Eero Pro 6’s to 2x Eero Max 7’s. I don’t feel the need to get a 3rd max, I sometimes wonder if 1 max is enough as it’s centrally located, and so much more powerful than the pro 6’s. Huge upgrade in performance and speed. The wireless backhaul is so much better, it’s so nice to get 1Gbps speeds all around my house at this point, on 6Ghz/wifi 7 devices.

I would personally put an Eero 7 in the garage running it off of wired backhaul, then put the 6 Pro in the garage somewhere where you can't use wired backhaul. Disclaimer: The posts from this sub pop up in my feed, we actually have a Tp-Link Deco system at our house. This advice is fully based off of the theoretical advantage that having the dedicated radio on the 6 Pro gives.

The upstairs in one corner its weak. I would think the Max would cover it all just fine with this smaller unit doing that well of coverage. This house is around 2k as well sq ft.

r/HomeNetworking · I don't think any mesh networks are reliable.

I've had several meshes, all using wireless backhaul. First I had the Netgear Orbi mesh (wifi-5) that worked well for a few months, then Netgear made firmware upgrades mandatory, and put out some really bad firmware. Went to eero (wifi-5) after that, and that one never did work well for me. It worked, but not as well as I thought that it should have. I tried the eero Pro 6 mesh (wifi-6), and that was never stable. After that it was the Asus ZenWiFi AX (wifi-6), which worked really well here. The mesh that I'm using now, the ZenWiFi BT10 (wifi-7) is also working really well...the wireless MLO backhaul is very fast and has been stable. About as close to wired backhaul as I've seen, the speed at the remote node is very close to my ISP's provisioned speed. The latest firmware for the BT10 mesh has been great, but it took a few versions to get the degree of stability that I want. So, for me, yes, there have been ups and downs, but the Asus ZenWiFi meshes have been the best that I've had. Both have worked great with wireless backhaul, which is what I need. And have been stable and have provided whole house wireless coverage.

depending on where you connect to your ISP and lets say your living room where you're most likely to benefit from Max 7 features, you might want to keep Pro 6 as your gateway and place your Max 7 where it most likely to get used. Pro 6 won't reduce performance of your Max 7, it just won't have a partner for WiFi 7, 6GHz band, or 2.5 or 10 Gbps ethernet. Pro 6 will gain a partner for WiFi 1-6, 2.4 & 5 Ghz bands and gigabit ethernet.

Max 7 has more antennas and better range. Key here vs the rated 2500 square feet range is this is a uk home I’m guessing with solid walls which greatly reduce the range vs stud walls and plaster. I’m using 2 eero pro 2nd gen and an eero pro 6 to cover my house, eero pro 6 and pro are wired backhall with one pro as a satellite. I’ve done testing around the house, turning off the satellite or wired pro and coverage drops heavily in some rooms. I’m also wondering if the eero max 7 would be enough of an upgrade to allow me to replace all these with 1 device with coverage at the far end of the house

Pro 6E might be overkill if you only have 500mb service. 6+ is only dual band. So the Regular Eero 6 Pro might be the sweet spot. Because it's discontinued, you'll likely buy it second hand at a discount. Just make sure it's not an ISP locked unit. Otherwise, if you're tech savvy, you can install OpenWrt on the TP routers and bypass their firmware.
