Pour l'instant l'unique qui a fait l'épreuve du feu c'est Mullvad, suite à une descente de police sur laquelle ils n'ont rien pu donner comme données. ProtonVPN faut effectivement saisir la nuance, non, ils ne gardent pas de "logs" mais oui, s'ils ont une réclamation légal (fraude, malware), ils vont observer en direct (donc pas de log, juste regards du flux en direct) et bannir ton compte ou plus dépendant de la situation. Donc techniquement ils ne mentent pas sur le no log. Par contre Proton est soumis à la loi (d'ailleurs ils ont un rapport de transparence car ils se battent en justice contre ça) et il est possible qu'ils doivent mettre en place un suivi des metadatas, à nouveau, par la loi mais ils sont pas idiots non plus (pour la partie courriel), tu peux avoir accès à leur service à travers Tor, justement s'ils reçoivent une réquisition judiciaire.

Mais le jeu du chat et la souris entre les habitués du streaming illicite et les détenteurs de droit devrait prochainement franchir une nouvelle étape cruciale. C’est en tout cas ce qu’espèrent la chaîne cryptée et la Ligue de football professionnel (LFP). Après avoir obtenu la coupure d’accès à des centaines de sites chez les fournisseurs d’accès à Internet (FAI comme Orange, Bouygues, Free, SFR, principalement), les acteurs du sport ont étendu leur bataille auprès des « résolveurs DNS », des annuaires convertissant les noms de domaines saisis par les internautes en adresses IP de serveurs où sont stockés les sites. Avec une nouvelle vague d’assignations adressée fin 2024, la Ligue de football professionnel (LFP) et Canal+ sont passés à la vitesse supérieure en appelant à la barre cette fois les principaux fournisseurs de réseaux privés virtuels (virtual private network, ou VPN en anglais) : NordVPN (France), Proton VPN (Suisse), Cyberghost (Roumanie), Surfshark VPN (Pays-Bas) et ExpressVPN (Îles Vierges britanniques). Ces outils permettent à leurs abonnés de se voir attribuer une adresse IP localisée dans un autre pays que la France, par sécurité mais aussi pour contourner les blocages déjà ordonnés par la justice. Canal a agi en défense de ses droits sur le foot (Premier League, Ligue des Champions), le rugby (Top 14) mais aussi MotoGP et les courses de Formule 1, la LFP pour protéger les matchs de la Ligue 1, de la Ligue 2 et du Trophée des Champions. Tous les deux réclament le blocage d’environ 150 sites comme soccerstreams.cc, rojadirecta.tv, myp2p.tv, kooracity.cc ou encore futbollibre.ws, mais aussi des services de télévision par Internet tels Dino TV, Facto, ou NETIPTV. En face, les VPN ont fait feu de tout bois pour repousser leurs demandes. L’Informé était présent à une audience majeure organisée le 28 avril au tribunal judiciaire de Paris. Compte rendu.

Dans sa plaidoirie, Richard Willemant, avocat de Canal Plus, a insisté pour que les fournisseurs de réseau privé virtuel entrent dans la boucle de leur lutte anti-piratage. « Et ils font déjà ce que nous demandons, en protégeant leurs utilisateurs des sites malveillants ou des virus qu’ils bloquent. Mais comme par hasard, ces services très protecteurs ne veulent pas protéger leurs utilisateurs contre des sites qui diffusent des contrefaçons. C’est quand même le monde à l’envers ! » Pour établir la liste des sites que ces prestataires devraient bloquer, la chaîne a pioché dans les différents noms de plateformes de streaming déjà épinglées par des décisions de justice pour de multiples « atteintes graves et répétées » à ses intérêts sur le sport. Elle a également demandé une mesure de publication judiciaire sur chaque réseau privé virtuel, dans un objectif de pédagogie à l’égard des internautes. « C’est parfaitement justifié puisqu’une partie de leur publicité se fonde sur l’allégation qu’avec nous, vous pouvez lutter contre la censure des gouvernements – ce que je comprends, mais aussi accéder à des sites bloqués dans certains pays. Ce qui n’est pas admissible puisque cela revient à parasiter l’abus commis par certains de leurs abonnés et attirer vers eux du trafic. » Sur le terrain juridique, l’avocat s’est appuyé sur l’article L333-10 du Code du sport, tout en citant le règlement sur les services numériques (DSA, Digital Services Act), un texte européen qui a dépoussiéré le régime de responsabilité des intermédiaires techniques et cite désormais nommément les réseaux privés virtuels. Ce même DSA rappelle que dans chaque État membre, une autorité judiciaire ou administrative peut exiger d’un « fournisseur de services qu’il mette fin à une infraction ou qu’il prévienne une infraction » (article 4, paragraphe 3 du DSA).

J'utilise Proton Mail depuis 3 ans et les autres outils depuis 1 an, voici un retour : - Proton Mail marche très bien et a complètement remplacé gmail pour moi, et s'améliore régulièrement (filtres, traitement des newsletter, etc) - Proton Drive est bien, c'est devenu mon Drive de documents importants et mon backup de photos du téléphone qui se fait automatiquement. Le client windows marche bien aussi sur mon ordi de taff - Proton VPN marche bien mais je m'en sers peu ne voyageant pas - Je n'utilise pas encore Proton pass mais j'ai prévu de m'y mettre - Proton Calendar est pour moi le moins abouti, même s'il s'améliore vite. Pour mes calendriers partagés de famille c'est encore un peu aride et lent comparé à Google calendar

r/AskFrance · C’est quoi vos astuces VPN ? Oui et non, ça permet d'éviter les restrictions françaises mais effectivement, certains sites peuvent bloquer un serveur VPN en particulier. On est loin d'avoir tous les sites qui font ça hein. Par contre l'aspect anonyme d'un VPN est complètement faux. T'as même des VPN qui balancent les utilisateurs "malveillants", c'est à bien vérifier si tu fais des choses pas très légales (au passage être chez free permet d'être un tout petit peu plus protégé à ce niveau-là) Pour mon utilisation un peu avancée, j'ai proton VPN gratuit de temps en temps et ça me suffit. Par contre c'est évidemment pas suffisant pour regarder des vidéos en direct.

Sinon j'avais une autre option gratuite qui te permettait de choisir une adresse IP parmi une liste et te logguer dessus (ce qui n'est pas le cas avec les autres VPNs gratuit). Sinon pour la confidentialité, selon tes usages tu peux soit utiliser Tor, soit un chargeur de DNS

Mullvad t'as littéralement eu des tentatives de perquisitionner leurs trucs, bah ils ont rien trouvé... car il n'y a rien. Proton ne gardent pas de logs MAIS ils peuvent te mettre sur écoute si tu dépasses les bornes, c'est à dire que pour eux si la justice arrive et ils disent "alors ce mec on a de très sérieuses raisons de penser que oui il vends de la drogue en passant par vos serveurs" tu peux être mis sur écoute, mais ça ne change rien au fait qu'avant la mise sur écoute ils auront rien sur toi. De toute façon dès que tu rentres dans la criminalité (que ça soit simplement acheter des produits ou pire) tu passes par Tor supplément Tails sur une clé USB, donc le VPN n'a même plus de but. Finalement, la chose vraiment illégale la plus commune étant l'achat de stupéfiants, même si un jour hypothétiquement tu te fais péter, si c'est des quantités minables genre "j'achète de l'adderall illégalement pour mon TDAH" ou "je fume de la moonrock de temps en temps", tu prends un avocat avec un QI supérieur à la température ambiante et GRAND MAX tu va prendre du sursis, voir juste une tape sur la main. En France je parle.

Interface sympa, app mobile très fonctionnelle, filtres d'email parfaits, domaines custom avec catch-all possibles, ... Proton VPN fonctionne bien, pas de problème de connexion ou débit. Un peu chiant à configurer pour des logiciels de P2P, le port de redirection change à chaque fois donc c'est pas aussi simple que d'autres (mais une fois la bonne config trouvée c'est nickel) Le reste j'utilise pas même si ça fait partie de mon abonnement, j'ai un NAS en local pour ça.

Par exemple Indico ou un truc du genre 20 € pour virer tes cookies et prétendre avoir un billet d’avion moins cher (c’est de la pub). Prends une putain de fenêtre privée et proton mail getable. Pour Netflix version USA? un VPN seul, non, c’est pas garanti, prends Stremio + RD. bref, je peut démontré tout les arguments et faire plus, tu veut un application de 350mb (proton VPN) gere toutes les tcp/udp close sources biensur pendant tu est deja sur HTTPS? (je dit netflix comme ca... c'est le meme que les autres)

En l'occurrence j'ai accès aux endpoints payants de Proton vu que je paie pour les autres services et c'est peut-être pour ça que jusqu'ici je n'ai pas eu de soucis de type "VPN détecté". L'avantage d'un VPN dans mon cas d'utilisation (par rapport au changement de DNS) c'est que le plugin est installé automatiquement dans mon navigateur de référence via mon compte, ce qui veut dire que, /pour mon cas d'utilisation/, c'est un clic et je suis où je veux (trois clics si je veux changer d'endpoint). C'est simple et efficace. Certes, être capable d'utiliser d'autres outils, savoir changer son DNS, ce sont des compétences accessibles, mais parfois des solutions plus simples fonctionnent pour le commun des mortels. Aujourd'hui les VPNs sont des bons moyens de contournement de géolocalisation. J'aurais tendance à recommander Proton qui se sert du tier gratuit non pas pour revendre les données des utilisateurs mais pour les faire venir dans leur écosystème payant (plus de choix d'endpoints et serveurs avec de biens meilleures performances)

J'aime bien Mullvad aussi et je suis aussi sur linux. Les deux ont des avantages qui leur sont propres. Les lois pour la Suisse dont tu parles ne sont pas encore votées et ne sont donc pas encore passées, elles seront peut-être refusées. Après malheureusement ça sera de pire en pire pour la vie privée pour tous les pays.

Tout est chiffré donc que ça soit un raid chez mullvad ou chez proton, ils ne récupéreront rien, en plus de ça proton fait du mail, du drive, du gestionnaire de mot de passe et tout ça est chiffré, personne excepté l'utilisateur peut lire ses données. Les décisions de justice c'est autre chose et dans le cas de proton c'était sur la partie mail (ils n'ont aucune donnée pour la partie vpn) et ils ont été obligés par le gouvernement. Mullvad pourrait très bien être également obligé de donner ses informations à la Suède si elle le demandait, le truc c'est qu'ils font que vpn donc n'ont aucune donnée, comme ProtonVPN juste qu'eux c'était sur la partie mail. La Suisse est indépendante alors que la Suède fait partie des fourteen eyes, une collaboration entre 14 pays sur tout ce qui est partage de données de vie privée. Donc si les USA demandent une information, la Suède va plus gentillement accepter alors que la Suisse n'en aura rien à foutre. La Suède est bien pire au niveau des lois pour la vie privée.

Je comprend ce que tu dis, après voilà, Proton Free c est bien mais pas assez rapide pour une utilisation quotidienne, et c'est deux fois plus cher que Mullvad déjà pour pas tellement plus de rapidité. Si la redirection des ports est essentiel je comprendrais. Mais voilà moi je suis sur Linux, Mullvad c'est 5 balles, pas de compte à créer, pas de mot de passe, et ça marche du tonnerre. Le navigateur est sympa aussi. Pour la suisse c'est mieux peut-être que l'EU mais de moins en moins bien. Certaines lois ont changé et ils subissent aussi la pression américaine

r/AskFrance · C’est quoi vos astuces VPN ? Abonné Proton Unlimited ici, plutôt pour remplacer les services mail et calendar Google à la base, marre de leur filer toute ma vie. J'utilise notamment Proton VPN quand je suis en voyage et que je dois me connecter sur un réseau Wifi type hotspot ou bien avec une clé bien connue. Je n'ai pas envie qu'un malin écoute mon trafic et essai de récupérer mes accès à mes applis. Normalement tout est en HTTPS maintenant mais on n'est jamais à l'abris d'une appli codée avec les pieds qui laisserait fuiter un cookie de session... Sinon ça marche bien aussi pour voir certains contenus geolock sur Youtube ou autre, acheter des clés de jeu en roupie (pas essayé depuis longtemps).

Proton a été ma première option mais vu certaines takes de son PDG j'ai été refroidi, puis je suis passé chez Infomaniak, dont la suite est à 0.38€/mois, les mails sont très bien, la KSuite pour les documents est très bien et KDrive est une très bonne alternative à Google Drive. J'ai pas trouvé encore de bonne alternative Cloud pour Google Photos parce que j'aime bien leurs rétros, la recherche etc. J'ai le navigateur Vivaldi avec Proton VPN intégré en gratuit, ça me suffit quand j'en ai besoin, et Keepass XC pour les mots de passes.

If we were to have stable ports like some other VPNs who then had to remove the functionality, this could have been used by malicious users who would have exploited the functionality to put behind all sorts of illegal websites or services. Regarding your report that Mullvad is somehow obfuscated, this is really interesting. Do you have an example of website for which you have problems with Proton VPN (which server), but it works nicely with Mullvad (which server)? This would greatly help us debugging the situation. In general we are continuously working to improve the IP reputation of Proton VPN. Regarding smart located server, yes we do provide this service for locations where it's not feasible to really host physical server. So we do host the physical server in another country but make it appear as it's really geolocated in the desired country. This is very useful for accessing services that are available only in the desired country, however it is not recommended for torrenting as indeed, depending on the location of the server it might increase latency.

I use their email because it has the largest base and it works fairly well. I still use their VPN because I’m not really trying to hide much over vpn anyway. Most people don’t realize that being logged into their gmail account while using a VPN will still result in them being able to be tracked across the web. I generally use the VPN so when I go to pornhub or elsewhere I won’t get blocked, also because being outside the US it’s often easier to access lots of stuff by just vpning to a server in the US. Quite a few of my local government pages are inaccessible otherwise. I also use their storage options because it’s not a super critical use case. I trust people I don’t want can’t access my storage and people I want to can and it’s not being spied on in the way google is. If you’re a journalist or someone with an exceptionally high threat model, definitely be aware of this kind is stuff and consider switching to mulvad, but this doesn’t change my own personal threat model at all. I think there is reasonable criticism, but being entirely honest there will always be reasonable criticism and trade offs, the difference is you see them where others don’t.

Their own guidelines say that a functioning killswitch is a requirement, and Proton VPN currently does not have the same level of killswitch as Mullvad or IVPN do. As for their response when it comes to Qubes. Would you accept if Signal was only E2EE in some cases and not in all cases? Probably not. I pay Proton hundreds of dollars a year for their services as a family subscriber. I chose them because they were the primary privacy choice for most of the services I was looking for. I have grown annoyed over time, the VPN client looks very different on windows than it does on Mac, and Mac doesn’t seem to be on a path to get updated. Drive on Mac is nearly useless, and doesn’t seem to be getting updated either. Pass doesn’t autofill on 50% or more of the sites I visit even after reporting them for years at this point. You have to be willing to give up a lot on the quality and usability side to have some privacy, but Proton’s lack of progress is really starting to make me question renewing when my 24mo plan renews this fall.

No need to pay for Netflix, HBO, Apple TV, Disney, Paramount etc. Saves money. The web extension is nice for getting ad free YouTube/twitch and other stuff, since I usually have to connect to far away servers I can game and do other stuff without the latency. Password manager for shady sites and an email alias to keep everything secure. It's quite nice.
r/ProtonVPN · My Research and 2 Cents on VPN Plateau I mean yeah. I'm not gonna pay for every streaming service available when I can pay for a VPN and have my own streaming platform for free. Sure storage costs money, but big HDDs are cheap and last a long time. I have a little over 12TB of movies, shows and anime that I can access anytime and anywhere. The only downside is that I'm usually a day behind when a show drops on a streaming platform. It's fully automated aside from telling it what shows or movies to download, then it downloads and organizes automatically.

I would just like to add that having your proton email connected to your proton vpn doesn't really matter as proton vpn has a proven no logs vpn, so what you do on the vpn can't be linked to your email, unless you are being reckless and telling people.

Stability is generally good, especially with WireGuard, but definitely enable the kill switch if you keep the VPN on 24/7 or use public college WiFi. Some school networks can block or interfere with VPNs, so test it there first. For torrenting, Proton is strong because paid plans support P2P servers and port forwarding. Just connect to a P2P server and put the forwarded port into your torrent client. Keep in mind the forwarded port can change when you reconnect. VPN Accelerator is not a leak risk. It is Proton’s speed/performance feature. If you are worried, just run a DNS/IP leak test while connected. NetShield is decent for blocking ads, trackers, and malware domains, but it is DNS-based, so it will not fully replace uBlock Origin in a browser. Android is good overall. It supports WireGuard/Stealth, NetShield, and kill switch through Android VPN settings. If Android acts weird after network changes or updates, a reboot or reconnect usually fixes it. Overall, Proton is a good choice if you want privacy, port forwarding, and lower cost. I would just test your college WiFi and torrent setup before buying a long plan.

After the first year, VPN is pretty expensive compared to other also trusted choices tho. If you use Mail and Drive already (I guess as Free tier?) you might want to consider Unlimited instead. That one is great in value, ofc only if you think some of the extra features are worth it.

r/ProtonVPN · Think about joining Proton VPN Bought in to the Proton world about a year ago. VPN is my biggest issue because if you want the kill switch on then you lose access to your local network. Turning it off every time and then turning back on is a pain as it needs to find another server. Some items on the local network will still not be available even after turning off the kill switch, in which case the VPN has to be turned off to get access. Using IOS in the car for Carplay, etc means that the kill switch has to be turned off. The repeated turning on and off is a huge killer for me. Thinking of Mulvad now.

I switched most of my stuff to Proton (Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, etc) and I haven't regretted this descision once so far. Everything is fast, reliable and secure. I can recommend. Mullvad seems fine too, haven't used it though and Surfshark has a bad reputation, so I wouldnt get it, regardless of how cheap it is.

They seem to be going for the lowest possible price, which is fair enough if you offer good quality basics, but that's not what they were doing. Personally I encountered poor speeds and often issues with particular apps not connecting/dropping off (Android). Also not a very good app or customer service. I found the free version of Proton to be better than surfshark, but not being able to select a country is a big disadvantage so might not work for you.

My tier list for vpn 1.self host wireguard (on anonymous vps provider) 2.mullvad 3.proton 4.amnezia If i'm going to pay for vpn subscription i choice proton because of their robust ecosystem. Other highly advertised vpn providers (like nordvpn,express..) are crap.

You can get the best deals as a new user, with a new identity.

r/ProtonVPN · My Research and 2 Cents on VPN Plateau Kill switch basically means that any traffic not forwarded through vpn will be disabled, they need to implement something like firewall which windscribe has done(I haven't tested it extensively but it works). Kill switch also does not work with split tunneling, furthermore I have Windows and Android and windows doesn't even have allow lan traffic 🤣, customer requested it but I forgot if any ETA was given by Proton or not.

r/ProtonVPN · My Research and 2 Cents on VPN Plateau Try stealth in proton and stealth, WStunnel in Windscribe still if you face issues then yours is not a normal case, I use streaming services and it works fine (sometimes you need to wait for a counter to develop when any streaming sites find or try something new),,,, If you still has issues then your case is a non-generic one, now you have to realy on protocols like VMess, VLESS, Shadowsocks, Trojan all of these are from Xray(Project X successor of V2Ray) which bypass China's firewall too most of time. You will find this proxies on Torguard.

r/ProtonVPN · Review of VPNs, Proton on Top I switched from Nord recently and I have found Proton more stable for me. In addition, if I change cities/countries it seemed to better reflect that actual location much more accurately than Nord did after a while. I kept running into age restrictions or other issues with Nord even though I know that restriction shouldn't have come up based off the city/country. I think Nord was becoming crowded or something else has changed because it wasn't as good as when I first subscribed. I'll be staying on Proton for now unless it becomes as bad as Nord did in these areas. Also, the performance of the app and network is within \~5% of Nord for me, maybe even better, to a point I don't miss any of the "speed" I had with Nord.

Mulvad has 50 locations that all have actual servers. So the extent of actual server locations for proton and mulvad is almost the same.

Despite a few issues, Proton is definitely a much better service A lot of the servers are not physically located in the countries they advertise. They are merely given an IP that is supposed to be connected to that country, which may or may not work (as in, websites/servers you connect to may or may not consider the IP to be from that country). This is not unique to proton, many (most?) vpns do it. And it usually concerns only the more "obscure" countries that other vpns do not show as options. But some eg mullvad (afaik) do not do that, which is why people may say "bad server coverage". You may or may not consider this an issue, fake advertising or whatever. Personally I don't mind, as it does not concern my use cases. Eg for stuff like geoblocking it is better to have an option to connect to a certain country even through those servers, even if occasionally you have to change the specific server to find another that actually works. The alternative is to just not have such an option at all. But it is not completely accurate to consider this as "far better coverage" either. Otherwise I am not sure there is any other issue, a server is a machine and each one should serve a different IP, so I assume in terms of amount of IP you can select from there is a big range.

I got 99,24 Mbit/s download, 111,68 Mbit/s upload and 4,24 ms latency. And then another test using a NordVPN server in Netherlands. I got 92,64 Mbit/s download, 83,74 Mbit/s upload, and 66,21 ms latency. So it's very similar to what I got with Proton VPN for free. Latency is not too bad, and I don't play games, so it doesn't matter much to me. For comparison Service Download Upload Latency ProtonVPN 91,82 Mbit/s 80,84 Mbit/s 47,82 ms ISP 99,24 Mbit/s 111,68 Mbit/s 4,24 ms NordVPN 92,64 Mbit/s 83,74 Mbit/s 66,21 ms NordVPN 94,43 Mbit/s 90,08 Mbit/s 4,82 ms Edit: I added one more test against a local NordVPN server (last row). Much better latency as expected, and slightly better upload speed.

I installed it now and the app works flawlessly. Unlike NordVPN and Surfshark, both of which crash on my system for some reason, since several versions back, due to some Nvidia driver conflict that support is unable to help with and I can't figure it out – it probably requires a Windows reinstall. I did a Proton VPN speed test now against a domestic test server, using a national broadband test service (provided by our domain registry). I got 91,82 Mbit/s download, 80,84 Mbit/s upload, and 47,82 ms latency. It went through Netherlands, about 1000 km away. Not bad at all. I have a 100/100 Mbps fiber service.

But my current provider, NordVPN, is 28% more expensive than Proton VPN for 12 months. I only compared regular prices, no discounts. Although, I usually renew NordVPN at half the price for a 24 month subscription. They often have discounts that existing customers can take advantage of, and they will sometimes make you an offer if you contact support or if your subscription has already run out. Any thoughts on NymVPN? It's a new provider I think, that builds on blockchain technology. I never heard of it until yesterday, so I don't know much about it.

It was really puzzling to see speed tanking totally down with something like 10 connections and DHT disabled. Been using many different VPNs and never experienced anything similar. To someone new it seemed there was quite a lot speed related posts with Proton and not very many solutions. I hope this helps someone. And yeah, the difference was huge for me, like from choppy kilobytes to steady megabytes. Torrent basically stalled with any number of uTP connections. BTW, it wasn't necessary to restart qB, just pause torrents and change protocol.

Tried disabling DHT, lower number of connections, etc. No change. Then I tried using only TCP instead of default TCP/uTP and voilà, the speed was stable now. Did some additional testing with large popular torrent with many different clients changing between the protocols and it confirmed the findings, TCP was working steadily while uTP was causing huge speed fluctuations. I don't know is it just me with that drastic change, but there was some discussion that TCP worked better for others too.

There's still slight hiccups when contacting the swarm and opening new connections, which I suppose goes down to DHT is still using UDP but it's not that noticeable and stabilizes after that. I don't have that much experience outside qB as I use VPN only for torrenting, but wouldn't be surprised if other apps could trigger this same behavior as well. It could be problem, if you use VPN system wide.

One thing to add might be that I noticed these speed drops with [speedtest.net](http://speedtest.net) too. The way I tested this was I enabled inverse split tunneling and added Edge and qB there and when these speed drops occurred, I tested the connection with browser that was using VPN and browser that wasn't. Was quite telling to see what happened to whole VPN connection. Gives some solid numbers how much speed actually drops.

Sorry I've just seen this, to answer your question, I usually don't have any problems signing up to streaming services in other locations, **unless** they require local payment methods, that's usually when the gig is up in my case. But otherwise, as long as you're on a P2P server, it'll work just fine and should be around 80% of your normal speed.

Personal but I didn’t like the app design. So I moved again and currently use Ivpn speeds are solid and I get full custom dns controls. I prefer the app design and so far everything seems good. End of the day the best is what works best for you today and tomorrow well this could be a different provider or service. Don’t lock yourself in to 1 provider. proton is becoming Google once you’re there you jump on unlimited and before you blink it’s very hard to move away as everything is with them. This happened to me dropping the vpn meant dropping to mail plus or pass plus but couldn’t have both.

My router allows me to split tunnel multiple VPNs so I have a Mullvad tunnel, Proton Tunnel, and a "No VPN" Tunnel. Basically I have a proton tunnel with port forwarding for my NAS, a Mullvad tunnel for basically everything, and a No VPN tunnel for my work devices. Also a second Mullvad tunnel for IoT devices.

I tried nordvpn and surfshark, but both had been bad for me (ie. I couldn't use the split vpn function (even after setting it up and talking to their support, the issue was not resolved) and couldn't even open google on my browser with vpn on) proton vpn is so much better than all the others i tried. 1. i can choose to 'not connect' to certain countries. Which helps me avoid connecting through my own country as its the one i'm trying to avoid, but still logs me through the fastest country after my own. 2. i can choose so that it only uses vpn with discord, as opposed to me listing every other program i don't wanna use vpn with. (i need vpn to be able to use discord) 3. the speed is really good, the control i have over what i want vpn to do is really detailed. with hotspot shield I kept having an RTC connection issue, but i have never had that with proton so far. It works good on my mobile too. overall, out of all my experiences with vpns, proton vpn took the crown for me.

r/ProtonVPN · Think about joining Proton VPN i would have loved to just use the vpn to protect my entire computer but thats not possible since i do want to whitelist my financial sites and i cannot do that on the windows app. i have to use the extensions then when i want to use qbittorret i turn on the windows app which whitelists firefox and chrome so i can then in turn white list some sites thru the extensions. do you see how confounded that is. if i could use the windows app with VPN on all the time. then white list sites so no matter what browser i use the sites would be whitelisted there but i have to have this added complication.

You were able to upload 2TB without a hitch, so it's not like we have unreasonable restrictions that will prevent normal usage, torrenting etc. with our VPN.

Streaming works fine, torrenting works great, killswitch & split tunnelling doing what they're supposed to as well, speeds are good. r/ProtonVPN · Think about joining Proton VPN if you're in a country that bans vpns very often it's a hard pass, on the windows app you don't have access to all the servers they advertise, on ios app you do. i don't know about other platforms. they don't offer ikev2 and openvpn on ios but they do offer ovpn on windows. ikev2 was something i could easily use and was very efficent for me so you can say i'm a little mad. though i wouldn't recommend a vpn service where they don't give full access to the server list and manual connection to all their protocols. proton does offer ovpn and wireguard manual. but even with that i won't be resubscribing when my subscription ends.

Being able to choose the country/state I want for streaming purposes or buying tickets is great. Not to mention the device wide Adblock. I know it’s blocking malware and trackers well too because I’ve gotten significantly less robo calls from scammers since using it. Also nice to forward gmail to the proton email account you get access to. Only complaint I have is sometimes it needs to be manually disable and activated again when switching from WiFi to cellular but that’s a minor gripe. I run it basically 24/7.

I was previously trying out Mozilla VPN (no free trial, bought an annual plan) and was disappointed to find it would not work on my Mac. Mozilla VPN worked on my Android phone. I worked with Mozilla VPN support, tried a few things to help them troubleshoot, and they still had no solution. I cancelled Mozilla VPN and signed up for Proton VPN this year. So far so good, working on both Andoid phone and Mac laptop. I believe my needs are very basic and not as "fancy" as most other people. I just use it for a little more privacy when on open wifi networks (cafes, libraries, hotels, etc). I haven't noticed loss of speed, but again, I'm not doing anything that intense. The main problem I run into is some websites not happy with VPN enabled. Yelp is one of them. Proton VPN often goes on sale. They currently have a 70% off promotion on a 2-year plan, which comes out to $2.99/month. .

r/ProtonVPN · Think about joining Proton VPN No, I second this. I bought 2 months of Proton to check my options outside of mullvad, but the thing kept disconnecting every 4 minutes on my phone. Literally tried every troubleshooting thing, but it was still unstable as hell. Well, ok, phone client sucks, maybe it'll work for my GlueTUN container? No. Just constant disconnects. While I think mullvad is slightly slower, it is rock solid stable. I'd rather have that than to check my notification bar every 10 seconds like a schizophrenic, hoping proton didn't just leak my IP.

Just nope. If you are doing it right, you are only looking at a second or two of data. And if you have a chance, you connect to one of the VPN servers with your own account and send timed pings every second or two. This isn't being done by humaaaans. The software isn't particularly difficult to write. If you have one capture with both the in and out, you can find what you want fairly quickly even with Wireshark. And there are always quieter periods in traffic, even just a couple of seconds and BINGO you have found your correlation and the feds are off looking more closely at someone, somewhere.

It only fools some websites. Websites still know they are VPNs, at least one of the Geolocation providers isn't fooled by this - they measure latency from many locations to find the location of an IP Address, and it certainly doesn't fool Alphabet or Meta.

Correlation attacks are done upstream of the VPN servers, usually at the ISP. All you need is the "in" and "out" traffic for all the "servers" at a location. Take notice, you cannot add different plans to your Proton Account once you've purchased a one year subscription. Afterwards, you can only subscribe to Proton Unlimited and get a percentage of the price you paid for VPN Plus as credit. Source: I got VPN Plus and then tried to subscribe to Proton Pass, that includes Proton Mail, was only getting the option to subscribe to Proton Unlimited, spoke to support and they were pretty much useless. It makes no sense to me: I wan't to give them more money that I currently do but they won't let me. I'd be down for Proton Unlimited if they had a stable client for Linux for Proton Drive. Proton people, if you happen to read this, here's a great sales idea: allow users to purchase custom subscriptions, for example: VPN Plus + Proton Mail Plus, but no Pass nor Drive. Users should also be able to add services without interrupting current plans. Price Custom plans a tad less than Unlimited ones, or heck, higher if you add a few perks.

You can also utilise the other free features of Proton. Proton Pass also has a free option. This way, you can upgrade to paid later and retain the same setup. Once you start incorporating mail aliases and proton pass with proton Mail, it’s hard to go back. It just works really well. I used to have SurfShark, but let that go in favour of Proton. I found the marketing aggressive, and didn’t have a lot of faith in full privacy. You get what you pay for. The free Proton option is a cut down trial of the products, but would be sufficient for your needs 😉

r/ProtonVPN · Is ProtonVPN better than Mullvad and/or Surfshark VPN? I've been using both Mullvad (~5 years) and Proton (~2 years). TL;DR - Proton for torrenting because of port forwarding. Mullvad for privacy. For your needs it sounds like Proton is the way forward. Proton as a company is a little weird and has some red flags for me, and has from their beginning. I use their entire suite of tools (except AI) and they have been getting better. But I'm aware they could turn out to be more marketing than substance. However, that results in some popular features like port forwarding. Mullvad does VPN (and recently a FF based privacy focused browser). They are privacy advocates. They are not piracy advocates. They do not fine-tune their product for these purposes. They do it for privacy. Port forwarding is a good example - they've had it and turned it off due to abuse. Also, clear pricing, better auditing reports, more standard adoption of protocol standards, etc. Speed wise - I find Proton unreliable and fluctuating wildly compared with Mullvad which sometimes has problems as well, but less often.

It still suffers from typical VPN issues in 2025, If i connect to any proxy within my country, My ISP Instantly flags it and throttles my connection , making it un usable. If i connect to nearby countries, i am able to stay for an hour or 2 before my ISP throttles my connection again, Even if that isn't a problem, almost all sites i visit, including the ones that were propped up across all the VPN ads, streaming services like netflix, disney plus etc etc, even niche sites have anti VPN measures. If somehow, none of that is a problem, my connection is still slowed down too much. All of this has made me cancel my proton VPN subscription that i had running for 2 years. Again i don't mean to say this is a proton only problem or that other VPNs are better, its just that VPNs in general in 2025 aren't as useful as they used to be

They were created by scientists from CERN (look it up) who wanted to help people with Internet security and privacy. Having said that, I think the CEO, the support people, and the mods here have lost sight of the goals.

While on UDP or Wireguard (that currently supports only UDP connections through their GUI) I get regular speed drops (the speed in the torrent app usually goes from 30MB/s to 100 KB/s, which is actually not a speed drop, but a connection loss, since the app shows the average speed over time) with several simultaneous open connections (f.i. when downloading torrents or opening several tabs at once in a web browser), but when switching to TCP, everything is stable and no speed/connection loss appears. Would love to find the reason for that, since I would prefer using Wireguard for its lower latency.

I was having similar issues, OP, and was given the solutions by support of lowering maximum connections, disabling DHT, disallowing peers on privileged ports, and decreasing number of active torrents, none of which improved things. On my setup, there was a severe issue with Proton and torrenting that didn’t occur with the same qB settings with three other VPN providers.

If I use a server, it usually works great (5-10mb/s) up. But most often that goes for a while and then it's dropping to 200-350kib/s. I then restart qBit, VPN and try to find a server with acceptable speeds. Usually many minutes goes to trial and error. Please update if @mods respond. RemindMe! 2 weeks

Quite a bit of Cloudflare verification tbh but that's about it. It works 99.9% of the time and, just like Mullvad, also accepts cash as a payment if that's what matters to you. Fair to note that if you value privacy immediately start paying cash because due to swiss laws they need to keep payment information (invoices etc.) for 10+ years.

They provide Security Key along with Server Package. It's not accessible in case of strict ISP filtering only. So there's no way to use it even from within Tor Browser as no 'TLS handshake' gets through established client connection. Nobody hears me on it...

Les alias de mails aussi marchent bien même si l'argumentaire "protection contre les spams" est un peu obsolète à mon avis vu l'efficacité des filtres à spam modernes. - Proton Calendar manque encore de fonctions basiques (recherche) pour que je m'en serve.
