r/projectors · From Epson to modern Projectors, the past view years in my view. whats yours? Just so you are aware, projectors basically never are useful at their maximum brightness, and the Horizon 20 Max is no exception. It is extremely noisy and has terrible colors at its maximum brightness. Real world is closer to 3,000 ISO Lumens. Which is likely more where your BenQ probably worked at. I do think that the major players are playing catch up. Epson, BenQ, and Optoma are way behind. Epson especially with their lamp-based projectors still on the market, while every other brand, for the same money, has gone to LED or laser setups. But, the lifestyle models from a long list of companies are doing a very good job of giving us the quality we should expect. I watch videos here for some of the best reviews: [www.youtube.com/thehookup](http://www.youtube.com/thehookup) I also read reviews and feedback from owners as best as my time allows to stay informed. Companies like JVC and Sony still do well at the high end with their laser driven LCoS projectors. But, those remain quite expensive and do require sources to be connected. But, that's what they were designed for. I've run into issues with control of a Valerion projector that doesn't power on/off when the Denon receiver it is connected to powers on and off. This is the type of headache that smaller brands like this deliver. It should not be that way, but it is the headache of these smaller companies as well.
r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max It's all good. The math for me is tough because I pretty strictly work in lumens and feet because, of course, I'm in the USA and we're dumb like that. :-) I've always railed at nits because while it is a good measurement, it's also useless as it doesn't easily translate from how projectors are measured. If a projector is giving an honest 1,600 lumens, then if you have a 1 square foot screen, there are 1,600 lumens at the screen. If it is 1.0 gain, then 1,600 lumens will reflect off the screen. If your target is 50 lumens per square foot, then at a 120" diagonal, 43 square foot screen, you need a 2,150 lumen projector to deliver those 50 lumens, which a model like the Horizon Max would have no problem delivering. The math is easier in my head. But, I can see if you have a output from a projector measured in something that was standardized as a metric basis it could make this all a lot more meaningful. Which is just crap to do right now. There are conversions between everything, but they suck. It's more math than we should be dealing with. If projectors were calling out brightness in lumens per square meter (lux) instead of lumens, which is a total sum, but really designed for 1 square foot, then this could all be a lot easier. Of course, lights on viewing means everything takes a hit and frankly, just is going to be 'orange' at best.
r/projectors · Upgrading from 6050UB: Are Laser/DLP projectors losing the "cinematic feel"? (Considering LS12000 vs. Valerion Max) In my experience, this is very much a DLP thing. DLP is the sharpest tech there is. The pixels move fast, and the use of a single DLP chip inside of it means there is no real blurring along the edges. You get this bright, poppy, digital image. And it looks great, but it isn't like film. Throw in that a RGB laser setup can expand colors beyond the P3 color space and you have very accurate colors that may be tough for some people to enjoy. Some options are to look at DLP models that are using laser phosphor and/or laser/LED hybrid solutions which aren't necessarily as crisp, but are still color accurate. From there, LCD and LCoS technologies (Epson, JVC, Sony) are going to make a slightly softer image overall that many people consider more filmlike. Especially the JVC models which are near the top of the class in terms of contrast and delivering excellent image quality. Not as bright as a Horizon 20 Max, but just a incredible image with good motion handling. As a side note: You do want to be sure that anything you look at has any motion interpolation or smoothing turned off. This is something we used to see on TVs all the time and it is very artificial looking. This can be turned up/down/off on many models of projectors and you can see how the image changes from something overly sharp/precise, into a more natural looking image. If you see something that looks more like a soap opera, than a movie, there is a good chance this feature is enabled. It is called a number of things by many different manufacturers. So, look for it.
r/projectors · Recommandation between XGIMI and Valerion (or other?) The XGimi allows both horizontal and vertical lens shift. As is the case with ALL projectors that offer both, the more you use one, the less you can use the other. This makes a ton of sense when you think about lenses being round and chips being rectangular. There is a bit of space at the top and bottom and sides of the lens that can be shifted into. Since the lens is round, not as much space is on the sides, as is on the top and bottom. Also, as you move towards the top/bottom, you are cutting into the amount the lens could move left/right. THIS PAGE SHOWS HOW IT WORKS... [http://www.reviewtranslations.com/projection\_calculator.html?send\_by=7944188628&from=singlemessage&invite\_code=zdmaqrj67zinv](http://www.reviewtranslations.com/projection_calculator.html?send_by=7944188628&from=singlemessage&invite_code=zdmaqrj67zinv) If it starts in Chinese, the top center has a drop down to allow you to switch it to English. It shows a bunch of projectors, but I'd pick the Epson 3700 as it is fairly close to the Horizon 20.
r/projectors · Recommandation between XGIMI and Valerion (or other?) Both models are quite good. While some are bothered by the H20 at this time, it should be correctable through firmware. The Valerion is a very good looking product as well. Realistically, either is a solid choice. I'd probably go with the H20 right now. The lens shift and zoom range makes it a really great value. Not sure you need to go to the Max unless you really are chasing brightness. On a 90" screen, that would be pretty extreme.

r/projectors · Advice on buying a projector None of those projectors have native 4k resolution The cheapest projector which is a very good option that is native 4k is the Sony VPL-HW 5000ES. I would not recommend it right now due to panel degradation and manual controls at that expensive price point. For a $3,000 price point, don't buy projectors like the Hisense or short throws that have no lens shift. Keystone is BAD IF and only IF your ceilings are at a good height where this projector won't hang too low, then go for the XGIMI Horizon 20 MAX. Also if you plan to place it on a table/not mount it this is a good option. If you don't want that, the number 1 projector I am recommending due to the deal right now is the Epson LS11000. I can't justify why the LS12000 (Slightly upgraded model), is so expensive. Nevertheless, the LS11000 is a great projector with lots of flexibility and at a decently decreased price point NEVER utter the words Optoma lol The newer version of the HT4550i is the W4100i. I like Benq for Home theater, but the fan noise is quite high. I would NOT spend $3000 on the W4100i, instead a GREAT option would be to buy the $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay. This is the best bang-for-your-buck option and is amazing Again, projector lens shift is SO useful, so the only Valerion I would consider would be the MAX 99.99999999% of home theater projectors can project 120 inches +, that is not a good question. The other percent is a cardboard toy. Even the cheapest projectors can probably do 150 if all lights are off I don't like ultra short throw, my opinion is that you will regret if you buy it. Many things need to be perfect for it to work out well. $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay would be the best option as it has 3d support and is very affordable so you can put budget elsewhere If your space permits, then you could go for the XGIMI, but I wouldn't because for half the price I can get a projector that's as good or better refurbished. Consider the Benq W2720i also but I wouldn't go with it
r/projectors · Advice on buying a projector I don't quite get what you're asking If you want to put the projector on a tripod or a table get a lifestyle projector The Xgimi Horizon 20 Max is amazing The 4550i won't work well on a tripod For table, both will work I don't recommend Epson refurbished-too overpriced
r/projectors · Advice on buying a projector The max is good, don't like the pro 2. I've seen both the Pro 2 and the LS12000, and both on default settings, the LS12000 destroys the pro 2. I like the Hookup, but I don't like the screens he uses, because it doesn't show the true sharpness and black level. I would choose the LS11000 over the 12000 AND the Max. The LS11000, Horizon 20 max, and refurb HT4550i are all projectors I would choose over any of these. Maybe just me, but I would buy all these over the max.
r/projectors · What Projector should i buy? You will have to use keystone for the Horizon Ultra. It is a horrible projector, I have seen both in person on display, and the horizon ultra looks worse than my goodee projector so.... The 20 max on the other hand is a beast, and the lens shift is AMAZING. The Horizon ultra has some cheap DV certificate but it looks Horrible. the 20 max obviously has the same certificate that was bought out, but it still looks significantly better

r/xgimi · Xgimi horizon 20 pro max or the Jmgo n3 ultimate? Based simply on how it looks, the stand/gimbal looks like it’s easy to bump a few inches. My projector is currently on a shelf that other people have access to, but I don’t (due to a disability). Would the lens shift make up for it being moved a few inches? Also, have you tested the brightness and picture quality of the XGIMI vs. the JMGO? If yes, I’d love to hear your insights. Also (sorry;)), I’m not much for understanding the technical stuff, so can you please help me understand the benefits of having HDR10+ available? Lastly, my available projection space is roughly 80 inches. Can the XGIMI go that small from about 10-12 feet away? Apologies for the many questions. Trying to learn as much as I can before Prime day is over lol.
r/xgimi · Xgimi horizon 20 pro max or the Jmgo n3 ultimate? I’m debating between the two as well. The two main issues I’m afraid of having with the XGIMI Horizon 20 Max are 1. the reported purple tint, and 2. the lack of auto correction and other features when lens shift is on. Have you had issues with those two?

r/xgimi · Xgimi horizon 20 pro max or the Jmgo n3 ultimate? I only really sometimes notice purple tint when I’m actively looking for it or taking a photo of the image directly, but I think this is more related to triple laser projectors in general. In normal watching conditions i really cant see it. Worth noting I don’t use DBLE either and that feature is going through an update cycle right now so I’d expect it to improve quite a bit. On the auto correction side for my living room setup I genuinely don’t miss it. I rely on optical zoom and occasionally lens shift when I’m moving the unit between rooms and that combo handles it perfectly fine. The big thing for me is that optical zoom and lens shift preserve image quality in a way that digital auto correction just can’t match anyway
r/xgimi · Xgimi horizon 20 pro max or the Jmgo n3 ultimate? Both are really cool projectors but I personally lean towards the Horizon 20 Max. It covers both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, so you’re not locked into one format depending on what you’re watching, the N3 Ultimate only does Dolby Vision. And the judder handling on the XGIMI is noticeably better which for a dark dedicated room makes a real difference on film content
r/xgimi · Horizon 20 Max vs Titan Noir Pro for primary use home projector I meant that it is lighter and with the gimble you can adjust more where it points the projected screen. But at the same time the TNM has such a strong zoom/lens shft that you dont really need the gimble that much 😃
r/xgimi · Horizon 20 Max vs Titan Noir Pro for primary use home projector I think the launch price currently gives the Titan Noir an edge because you’re getting more of a cinema-focused projector with better contrast and optics at a similar price, but it really depends on your room and how much you need to adjust the projector. The Horizon 20 is a bit more flexible, especially with the gimbal and auto setup. Picture-wise I have the Horizon 20 Max and I already find the image very good, especially for a living room setup
r/projectors · A few days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro & Base Model + Feedback I had the same issue with Mogo 2 when used for gaming, only "game mode" without keystone worked alright in terms of input lag, but that is understandable for a cheaper and portable device. I now have H20 Max and with lens shift/optical zoom there are no issues at all, no input lag whatsoever

r/hometheater · OLED vs 4K Projector As someone who actually owns both, I’d say the projector experience is really hard to give up once you get used to it. In our living room we have a 77” LG C3 OLED and also a ceiling-mounted XGIMI Horizon 20 Max with a 120” motorized screen that drops down in front of the TV, and honestly we use the projector probably 90% of the time. The OLED absolutely destroys the projector in pure image quality, HDR impact, black levels, gaming responsiveness, and can do 4k120hz content, but for movies, YouTube, casual 4k 60hz gaming, sports, and overall “wow factor,” the projector just feels way more cinematic and immersive. At around an 8 ft viewing distance, a 120” image will feel massive in the best possible way. That said, people massively underestimate projector costs because the screen matters a LOT, and a proper fixed-frame or motorized screen can easily eat a huge chunk of a $1500 budget by itself. If you go projector, I’d honestly recommend either increasing the budget a bit or looking second hand so you don’t end up with a compromised setup. Also keep in mind projectors are far more room dependent, and even in a light-controlled room the OLED still wins. If I could only own one display in a bright mixed-use living room, I’d choose OLED, but if the goal is immersion and true “home theater” feeling, projector wins every time for me.

r/xgimi · Horizon 20 Max vs Titan Noir Pro for primary use home projector The Titan Noir is better in every way but portability and ease of use. If you get it at the preorder price, go for it, but it is a way more expensive projector because I think it is for a very different public. I think the Horizon 20 Series is a lifestyle projector while the Titan Noir is more serious. I personally like the size of the Horizon 20 Max and that I can move it farily quickly. Google TV is also a nice addition even when you only need a stick or a cheap Google TV box. For my set up, the Titan Noir is just too big, it seems like it needs more space to be set up correctly. The Horizon 20 Series will get a big update in May, as announced by XGIMI. I am very happy with my Max and I don't think more is needed for my use, but for you it might be different.
r/xgimi · Horizon 20 Max vs Titan Noir Pro for primary use home projector BBQ with friends. Just need an outlet and I have my 80 inch white screen. When the weather gets better here, I'm definitely doing that. It's just one example.

r/projectors · Trying to decide on next projector (Nebula X1, Valerion Visionmaster Pro 2, XGMI Horizon 20 Max or other?) The last time I contacted them, they mentioned that they are working on EBL improvement but do not have anything tangible for picture quality. I think they roll out bug fixes for certain modes rather than ebl improvement as is. I want to be wrong though. As of now EBL on Xgimi is the worst I have ever seen on any projector of any software version.

r/projectors · Early days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max I can only really speak to the Max as that is the model I have. When calibrated this projector has a maximum of 3500 lumens available, this is very bright and would be able to be used with some non direct light in the room. I use a matte white 1.3 gain screen. If you are planning for a 92" screen from only 10' away I would think the pro would be acceptable. There is a good video that compares all three Xgimi Horizon 20 models on YouTube that I have linked here that will hopefully help you make your decision. https://youtu.be/1bgx841ENRc?si=_xWbn8vk59XokoXH
r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens Testing Xgimi Horizon 20 Max and the marketing does not lie, the brightness of this calibrated is pushing 3500+ lumens, native contrast between 1200-1672:1 and dynamic pushes 20000:1. The built in HDR is very good on this model and for 3d and gaming there is not an equal in the North American market yet! The included lens shift and all the other image manipulation settings work so well and the gimbal gives so much flexabily on casual family events but still allows for more traditional mounting options also! The laser speckle is so much improved over other RGB laser models! If you are mainly into 3d or gaming this projector delivers so much value! I have taken it for a few weekend outings and the included carrying case is very much appreciated. This allows you to create easy impromptu setups and the built in speakers are great when needing to deliver impressive sound without all the extra baggage. The backlit remote is very nice and has a nice weight and the Bluetooth just works. Wifi performance is very good also. This is my new go to projector replacing the Horizon Ultra. Let me know if you have any questions.
r/projectors · Early days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max The throw on this projector is 1.2-1.5:1 you would have to be quite a bit further then 11' to fill a 142" screen. If you use the projector central calculator the 13.9' measurement is accurate, but there is some optical zoom capability for some flexibility. The zoom is also shown in the calculator and should help you with placement.
r/projectors · Early days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max There are currently some issues with Dble mode. Xgimi is working on these issues and will be releasing FW fairly soon for users to load with the OTA update feature.
r/projectors · Early days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max The laser speckle is improved but still dependant on the screen. Most suggest a acoustically transparent weaved screen like silver ticket WAB or XY screens makes a nice one also. XGIMI is working on some new firmware to help with various issues reported. I will update as I am able to test and they release them to OTA updates.

I am tempted by this projector as currently have the Valerion Pro 2 but the laser speckle is awful as he RBE. What's it like on the Xgimi? Their website says it has laser speckle reduction etc. Also, no-one mentions the boot up time. If this is to replace a TV, it needs to start quick. The Valerion is about 7-10 seconds. If the RBE reduction feature is important to you then you should go with the Max or Pro2. r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra vs Horizon 20 I used a translation tool from this comparison to the C3 Ultra, which I got for $1400 shipped to Spain from Alibaba, it’s not arrived yet. I can’t see a comparison between the C2 and the Xgimi. https://youtu.be/Otmxebbz9dI?si=-6qOEKv-JafcEw1S But here is the summary (Thanks Chat GPT) Brightness • Xgimi claims 4,500 CVIA / 5,700 ISO lumens vs Vidda’s 3,200 CVIA. • In testing: “On screen brightness is basically equal.” → The reviewer was surprised, saying Vidda must be very honest with its specs while Xgimi looks overstated. ⸻ Color • Xgimi: whites sometimes a little brighter. • Vidda: colors richer and more saturated, better in some test scenes. ⸻ Contrast • Both similar, but in some shots Vidda handled shadows blacker and highlights brighter, giving more depth. ⸻ Features • Xgimi advantage: lens shift (120% vertical, 45% horizontal). • Vidda advantage: short throw (0.9–1.5) and wider optical zoom (1.67×). The reviewer says short throw is very valuable, sometimes more so than lens shift. ⸻ Gaming • Xgimi advertises 1 ms latency. • Reviewer: “In my testing I saw no difference, both felt the same.” ⸻ Build / Extras • Vidda: smaller PSU, partly metal body, nicer glow-in-dark remote, more ports (LAN, IR). • Xgimi: larger PSU, mostly plastic, motorized gimbal. • Noise & power: similar. • Warranty: Xgimi 5 years vs Vidda 1.5 years (extendable cheaply). ⸻ Final Verdict (Reviewer’s Words) • Image quality is very close. • Xgimi: slightly brighter whites, lens shift, longer warranty. • Vidda: more saturated colors, better short throw, better zoom, smaller size, more honest brightness rating. • “Rational analysis, choose according to your needs.” ⸻ ✅ So the reviewer doesn’t say one is the absolute winner — but he clearly leans toward the Vidda C3 Ultra as the smarter buy, since brightness is the same despite Xgimi’s higher claims and higher price. If you specifically need lens shift or value the 5-year warranty, then Xgimi makes sense. Otherwise, Vidda offers equal or better performance for less money.

r/projectors · Considering the XGIMI Horizon 20 Max, how does it handle day-to-night transitions? I would say as per my personal experience that the the Horizon 20 Max handles day-to-night viewing really well, mainly because it has enough brightness and strong image processing to stay consistent as the room gets darker. I would not expect it to automatically switch between separate Day and Night profiles on its own, so a quick manual tweak is still needed. That said, the projector should remain smooth and easy to live with during the transition, and the Mediatek-powered processing helps keep everything responsive. Overall, it feels like a strong choice for mixed lighting, not a projector that struggles when the sun goes down.

r/projectors · Xgimi horizon 20 pro max or the Jmgo n3 ultimate? Haha I was stuck between these for way longer than I want to admit, and I ended up going with the JMGO N3 Ultimate. The price sits between the 20 Pro and the Max, which made it easier to justify for me. After reviews and threads, my takeaway was that the N3 Ultimate was basically on the same level as the 20 Max in picture quality and core specs. What finally made me pick the JMGO was the setup stuff. Lens shift and auto correction can work together, which sounds minor until you’re actually trying to line the image up. And the wider optical zoom helps too. Anyway, hope that helps a bit.

r/xgimi · Xgimi horizon 20 pro max or the Jmgo n3 ultimate? Are you talking about the Horizon 20 pro or the max? Pro vs N3 Ultimate, I’d pick the N3 U pretty easily. Max vs N3 U is closer tho. I watched B The Installer’s video a few days ago and skimmed a couple threads after that. From what I saw, the max and N3 U looked pretty close in picture quality, so I wouldn’t make the decision off that alone. If setup flexibility matters to you, that’s where I’d go N3 U. The image adjustment gives you more room to work with if the projector can’t sit in a perfect spot.

r/hometheater · Best Home Projector for a New Home theater in 2026 For a dedicated 120–150” home theater at around 10–12 feet viewing distance, you’re already in the range where image quality differences really come down to contrast, black levels, and lens quality rather than just brightness or specs on paper. That’s why models like the Epson LS12000 and JVC NZ500 are still considered the safest “endgame” choices if your priority is true cinema-like depth and you want to install once and not think about upgrades again. The newer triple-laser projectors like the Hisense C2 Ultra, XGIMI Horizon 20 Max, Valerion Pro 2, or JMGO’s upcoming N3 Ultimate are definitely closing the gap and offer a lot more convenience with smart features and easier setup, but they still don’t quite match JVC-level contrast in a fully dark room. Something like the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is a good example of this newer generation, very easy to place, strong brightness, and flexible enough for changing room plans, but more focused on convenience than absolute reference image quality. If I were you, I’d mainly decide based on whether you want “best possible cinematic image” (Epson/JVC) or “modern all-in-one ease of use” (triple laser options), and the biggest thing to lock in early to avoid headaches is your exact throw distance and screen size before choosing anything.

I think max would be an overkill. If you have lit room only then Pro or Max will be helpful otherwise even the base model performs well in lightly lit rooms. At 100” it gets too bright.

Room with white walls, no complete darkness, 4.5 meters, 150 inches. At laser 10 it feels to bright at times. It sets to 10 in automatic mode. Max would be too bright. Sometimes I watch sports at day, good enough with closed windows. You review says Pro does not have enough brightness for my environment, which is not true. I believe there is no reason to pay extra for Max, unless you use about 0,6 gain screen.

r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max That's really big even for the Max. You will be around 185 inch which means that you would need more than 3000 real lumens to be safe for SDR and HDR. You could get a green cell with one of the brighter configurations but you would lose color accuracy. My test is based on the best color accuracy level because I assumed (maybe I'm wrong) that people paying so much for a projector would like to get the best colors out of it.
r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max very bright room = you'll need an alr screen to reduce the impact of surrounding light. r/projectors · Recommandation between XGIMI and Valerion (or other?) I think the Valerion actually has a slightly broader zoom range (AKA distance to the screen), but the Pro2 Valerion doesn't have lens shift, which means you have to align it horizontally and vertically in the precise correct spot or rely on digital keystoning. The Xgimi claims to have both horizontal and vertical lens shift, but apparently you can only use one or the other, and the horizontal shift is pretty small. If you're going from a tripod next to the sofa, it will probably help with getting the image at least closer to centered. The less you have to digitally keystone, the better (ideally none).

Find an image of a thin or small white object, like a vertical line or candle, and pause the film. Then move your eyes quickly across the screen - as fast as you can. That thin white line or object should break into individual colors. It's the movement of your eye that does it, not the fast action scenes. This video should do the trick: [(38) Test Pattern - Grid with Circles - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgFI20upJiY) The way you are using your camera to perceive rainbows is not the same as how the human eye sees them. r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra/Vidda C3 ultra/XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro Yes, to me it is absolutely worth it. The contrast is that much better and that is not talking into account all the other factors. The comparison video will help you a bit. Two things to note: Xgimi has received several updates since the video. Neither has improved the dynamic contrast in fact the latest one has made the dimming worse than before. In addition, although the C3 is not in the video it didn't change much from the C2. Furthermore, the dimming didn't improve and is inferior to the Valerian. https://youtu.be/F6mFV7XQC3o?si=UMC6zimk73uochKQ

r/budgetprojectors · Epson 3800? C2 ultra? Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro? Help buying my first projector with a $2k budget. The Epson 3800 only covers about 57% of 2020 color space; the Horizon 20 MAX (and assume other models) cover 97%. You are saying their tone mapping is terrible, because they have a lot more color to work with? If using MADVR - color fidelity argument should not matter, right? The Horizon 20 Pro and Base have less brightness in their "usable modes" than Epson 3800: Rtings rates the 20 MAX at 2687 lumens, Epson 3800 at 2334 lumens. Scale RTINGS figures to The Hook Up's measurements on all 3 - the Pro has 2034 Movie/ 2270 STD + boost; Base not worth mentioning. Horizon has other slightly better static contrast, and the aforementioned color advantage - but DLP and some dynamic contrast pulsing issues (post firmware update). Regardless - the Horizon 20 Max's Brightness figure of 5700 is measured at 5165 - but is green and unwatchable. It is the only model with brightness levels above the Epson 3800 in an actual "usable" mode. If anyone finds scaling based on RTINGSs figures (they didnt measure the Pro or Base; I didn't see the Hook Up measure Epson) - then the Hook Up measured Horizon 20 Pro at 2261 lumens Movie Mode; 2736 lumens on STD mode + boost; these are not calibrated but out of the box. I was about to buy a Horizon 20 because I had the same impressions about brightness, but figured I'd share my research for anyone else in the same boat.

r/projectors · Xgimi Horizon Pro or Valerion Vision Master 2 - need advice It is true that very short throw ratios can reduce ANSI contrast on single chip DLP projectors because the lens has to spread the image wider and that creates more internal reflections. That effect is real, but the Horizon 20 Max never reaches the extreme wide angle positions where the big contrast drops happen. Its throw range is only about 1.2 to 1.5, so it does not hit the 0.9 level that loses forty percent or more contrast on some older DLP designs. The Horizon 20 Max also uses a fourteen element glass lens that keeps contrast much more stable across the zoom range compared to cheaper compact DLP units. The difference between 1.2 and 1.5 on this model is usually small in real use. It is nothing like the large drop you get on projectors that go all the way down to 0.9 throw. The idea he is referring to is correct in general, but it does not apply to the Horizon 20 Max the way it sounds.

Because you said the space is open and used for other stuff, pick a laser projector with higher lumen output — the XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro (or Max if budget allows) will give you a brighter, lower-maintenance image that’s easier to live with in a non-dedicated theater. If you later build a blackout enclosure and want the “true cinema” look in absolute darkness, the Epson 3800 would be a fine alternative, but in an open basement the brightness and laser longevity of the Horizon line are very practical advantages.

Also, on vertical shift: the default starting position is actually at 100%, so you can go up another 20% and all the way down 120%. r/projectors · Early days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max Do other people also experience issues with EBL? What I’ve noticed is that EBL sometimes doesn’t know what to do when both light and dark colors are displayed on the screen at the same time. You can then see the screen shift from very cool tones to the correct colors. It only lasts for about a tenth of a second, but I find it too distracting to keep it enabled. Additionally, there’s still no Dolby Vision with EBL, and given how EBL currently performs, I personally don’t think it adds any value at all. I sincerely hope there will be an update that improves EBL’s algorithm. Another thing I’ve noticed is that EBL also gets confused when you have white subtitles turned on.

Again, maybe the Valerion Max is "better", but it sure isn't "twice the price" better. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lEj8jEx6H0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lEj8jEx6H0)

r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens Would honestly be the bare minimum for any kind of display device tho. One for eArc and one for image and you're already maxed out

r/projectors · Benq w4100i or xgimi horizon 20 Max Upgrading from panasonic RZ470UK yeah, ill need a way to mount it too. or just figure out a cradle system or something for my ceiling to make it more portable so i can use it outside in the summer. but the brightness seems so nice. you can hardly handle any ambient light with my current BENQ

r/projectors · Benq w4100i or xgimi horizon 20 Max Upgrading from panasonic RZ470UK Same here 5300 iso lumens. Digital zoom, focus, lens shift. Just need to find a 20 inch drop mount that works with the 1/4" threaded mount
r/projectors · Benq w4100i or xgimi horizon 20 Max Upgrading from panasonic RZ470UK I thought about that since I was going to go with the ht4550. The new xgimi projectors have alot of lens shift and seems like it might be a good deal. I worry about the w4100i only because of the ht4550 issues it had.

r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens Its not the same Valerion can claim 15000: and ended up giving 13750:1 But xgimi did claim with his previous max model 1000000:1 and ended up giving less than 1000:1 Thats the problem This xgimi 20 max wont even surprass 8k:1 for sure, I find plenty stupid buying this projector before waiting a few days for the hook up review of all 2025 projectors that will be out at the end of this month.

r/projectors · Benq w4100i or xgimi horizon 20 Max Upgrading from panasonic RZ470UK The w4100i will be a direct swap. It will also allow you to make the pole shorter and mount the projector closer to the ceiling. Source: I have an almost identical setup and swapped in the HT4550i which has the same specs aa the w4100i. Spend the extra $500. Easily worth it. The Xgimi is a lifestyle projector with limited lens shift which suck to mount without using keystone which ruins the picture. You are doing a traditional installation which the BenQ is made for.

r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens No, is not better. It has more features than valerion. But image quality wise, valerion is still far ahead

r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens I'm pretty sure it's stuck on chinese - i read others that bought chinese versions, some even lost the english option after an upgrade. Otherwise I would go for it aswell, but with the pre-order discounts vs the cost on AliExpress + the fact that you likely wont get a EU frimware flash from the EU resellers makes it less attractive option to me. Very curious about what OPs experiences are with this one.

r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens Yes I'm aware of what the feature does. What I mean is, I haven't seen any other 4k projectors be able to do this.

r/projectors · Testing out Xgimi Horizon 20 Max, 5700 lumens Thanks for the info! That makes me feel a bit better about not wanting to spend $5k lol Unless some crazy news comes out about the Horizon 20 series, I'll probably wait and continue researching over the next year. Maybe I can get in early on something great that is coming out next year, or like you said, the MSRP of the Valerion will drop. I'm trying to keep my budget around $2000-2500, considering I'll need a decent 120" screeen too(so about $3000-3500 total budget). That's why the pre-order price of the Xmigi is so enticing to me.

r/projectors · Best 4K projector under 3k? 1. Valerion pro 2 or Dangbei S7 Ultra Max (possibly Dangbei is even better, did not see direct comparisons yet) 2. Hisense Vidda C3 Ultra 3. Xgimi Horizon 20 Max
