Few_Calligrapher2662r/projectors · Advice on buying a projector →2025-11-30T21:54:00
None of those projectors have native 4k resolution The cheapest projector which is a very good option that is native 4k is the Sony VPL-HW 5000ES. I would not recommend it right now due to panel degradation and manual controls at that expensive price point. For a $3,000 price point, don't buy projectors like the Hisense or short throws that have no lens shift. Keystone is BAD IF and only IF your ceilings are at a good height where this projector won't hang too low, then go for the XGIMI Horizon 20 MAX. Also if you plan to place it on a table/not mount it this is a good option. If you don't want that, the number 1 projector I am recommending due to the deal right now is the Epson LS11000. I can't justify why the LS12000 (Slightly upgraded model), is so expensive. Nevertheless, the LS11000 is a great projector with lots of flexibility and at a decently decreased price point NEVER utter the words Optoma lol The newer version of the HT4550i is the W4100i. I like Benq for Home theater, but the fan noise is quite high. I would NOT spend $3000 on the W4100i, instead a GREAT option would be to buy the $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay. This is the best bang-for-your-buck option and is amazing Again, projector lens shift is SO useful, so the only Valerion I would consider would be the MAX 99.99999999% of home theater projectors can project 120 inches +, that is not a good question. The other percent is a cardboard toy. Even the cheapest projectors can probably do 150 if all lights are off I don't like ultra short throw, my opinion is that you will regret if you buy it. Many things need to be perfect for it to work out well. $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay would be the best option as it has 3d support and is very affordable so you can put budget elsewhere If your space permits, then you could go for the XGIMI, but I wouldn't because for half the price I can get a projector that's as good or better refurbished. Consider the Benq W2720i also but I wouldn't go with it

shukrutavr/hometheater · OLED vs 4K Projector →2026-05-24T12:35:34
As someone who actually owns both, I’d say the projector experience is really hard to give up once you get used to it. In our living room we have a 77” LG C3 OLED and also a ceiling-mounted XGIMI Horizon 20 Max with a 120” motorized screen that drops down in front of the TV, and honestly we use the projector probably 90% of the time. The OLED absolutely destroys the projector in pure image quality, HDR impact, black levels, gaming responsiveness, and can do 4k120hz content, but for movies, YouTube, casual 4k 60hz gaming, sports, and overall “wow factor,” the projector just feels way more cinematic and immersive. At around an 8 ft viewing distance, a 120” image will feel massive in the best possible way. That said, people massively underestimate projector costs because the screen matters a LOT, and a proper fixed-frame or motorized screen can easily eat a huge chunk of a $1500 budget by itself. If you go projector, I’d honestly recommend either increasing the budget a bit or looking second hand so you don’t end up with a compromised setup. Also keep in mind projectors are far more room dependent, and even in a light-controlled room the OLED still wins. If I could only own one display in a bright mixed-use living room, I’d choose OLED, but if the goal is immersion and true “home theater” feeling, projector wins every time for me.

I don't quite get what you're asking If you want to put the projector on a tripod or a table get a lifestyle projector The Xgimi Horizon 20 Max is amazing The 4550i won't work well on a tripod For table, both will work I don't recommend Epson refurbished-too overpriced

Testing Xgimi Horizon 20 Max and the marketing does not lie, the brightness of this calibrated is pushing 3500+ lumens, native contrast between 1200-1672:1 and dynamic pushes 20000:1. The built in HDR is very good on this model and for 3d and gaming there is not an equal in the North American market yet! The included lens shift and all the other image manipulation settings work so well and the gimbal gives so much flexabily on casual family events but still allows for more traditional mounting options also! The laser speckle is so much improved over other RGB laser models! If you are mainly into 3d or gaming this projector delivers so much value! I have taken it for a few weekend outings and the included carrying case is very much appreciated. This allows you to create easy impromptu setups and the built in speakers are great when needing to deliver impressive sound without all the extra baggage. The backlit remote is very nice and has a nice weight and the Bluetooth just works. Wifi performance is very good also. This is my new go to projector replacing the Horizon Ultra. Let me know if you have any questions.

Halimaa09r/hometheater · Best Home Projector for a New Home theater in 2026 →2026-04-17T20:55:35
For a dedicated 120–150” home theater at around 10–12 feet viewing distance, you’re already in the range where image quality differences really come down to contrast, black levels, and lens quality rather than just brightness or specs on paper. That’s why models like the Epson LS12000 and JVC NZ500 are still considered the safest “endgame” choices if your priority is true cinema-like depth and you want to install once and not think about upgrades again. The newer triple-laser projectors like the Hisense C2 Ultra, XGIMI Horizon 20 Max, Valerion Pro 2, or JMGO’s upcoming N3 Ultimate are definitely closing the gap and offer a lot more convenience with smart features and easier setup, but they still don’t quite match JVC-level contrast in a fully dark room. Something like the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is a good example of this newer generation, very easy to place, strong brightness, and flexible enough for changing room plans, but more focused on convenience than absolute reference image quality. If I were you, I’d mainly decide based on whether you want “best possible cinematic image” (Epson/JVC) or “modern all-in-one ease of use” (triple laser options), and the biggest thing to lock in early to avoid headaches is your exact throw distance and screen size before choosing anything.

I do trust the hook up, very informative and exhaustive reviews. Your comment about colour blindness made me think as I too have mild colour blindness. I’ve tried the Valerion Pro and Max models plus the new XGIMI Horizon 20 Max. I couldn’t get on with any of them and have reverted to my older XGIMI Horizon S Max which to my eyes anyway seems to give a better image. The older XGIMI uses dual light rather than laser so that might be the defining factor.

The laser speckle is improved but still dependant on the screen. Most suggest a acoustically transparent weaved screen like silver ticket WAB or XY screens makes a nice one also. XGIMI is working on some new firmware to help with various issues reported. I will update as I am able to test and they release them to OTA updates.

ThinkMoreTwicer/projectors · XGIMI Horizon 20 Max - Lens shift lies →2025-10-20T09:46:38
Hey, the 45% horizontal shift is the total range, meaning it’s about 22.5% left and right from the center. Based on your 214cm screen width, that comes out to around 48cm per side—which matches your measured result perfectly! Also, on vertical shift: the default starting position is actually at 100%, so you can go up another 20% and all the way down 120%. Oh, and the full horizontal shift range is only available when vertical shift is set to 0.

Do other people also experience issues with EBL? What I’ve noticed is that EBL sometimes doesn’t know what to do when both light and dark colors are displayed on the screen at the same time. You can then see the screen shift from very cool tones to the correct colors. It only lasts for about a tenth of a second, but I find it too distracting to keep it enabled. Additionally, there’s still no Dolby Vision with EBL, and given how EBL currently performs, I personally don’t think it adds any value at all. I sincerely hope there will be an update that improves EBL’s algorithm. Another thing I’ve noticed is that EBL also gets confused when you have white subtitles turned on.

Liegt das an dem neuem TI Chip, ziehen andere Hersteller bald nach? Weiß jemand mehr? Vor allem 120hz bei 4k würde sehr interessant werden.

The Auto focus works after calibration (they must not have calibrated in the factory correctly). I haven't seen any reviews that actually tried color calibration on a colored wall... The only "physical defects" is the scratch and a loose screw. The others issues are bugs and false advertising.

Tech as in DOLBY VISON, ATMOS, processing power the color space etc etc. It does absolutely support 8bit color processing lol. Even a low budget tv supports this. My point is there are projectors that cost 5000 or more and don't have, or offer the same specs as this. Just do the research.
