    For the price of this projector, you could get the 98" TV and a really really nice projector to travel with if you wanted to. Chances are you don't have your high gain fixed frame screen wherever you're going to, it's not blackout dark(because even with Lazer projectors, the ambient light makes a huge difference) - you're not needing the absolute best projector image and are happy with an average projector that you aren't nervous transporting around. I know personally, when I used a projector, I took it off the mount maybe 3 times ever.

    The photo is not color accurate to what the viewer actually sees. This is a known artifact of the phone’s inability to capture a triple laser projector correctly. The OP references that in the post. In person, the OP is seeing an image much closer to photo 1. I also have a Max and am blown away by the projector/picture. I have none of the color shifts that OP mentions but there are several reports from those that do. I believe it behaves differently depending on the video source or video player. Again ,most people do not have the color shift artifact from ebl but it is an issue for those that do. There is no better value on the market currently imho, assuming you don’t experience this issue

    Hmm. I don’t have that on my Max. The edge of the screen/image lines up perfectly with the edge of the light. I’ll admit though, you might be describing something that exists but isn’t perceptible to me.     Also, regarding “light border” this is not a DLP thing. This is most likely because you’re projector is positioned too far away from the screen and you’re using some keystoning to try and have the image fit your screen. You need to check the Projector Central throw distance calculator and confirm you’re at the correct throw distance. If you are, there will be no light spill. Depending on how far you are currently off, you may be losing a lot of contrast and resolution due to the keystoning.

    We haven’t tested the Valerion Max at RTINGS yet, but we did review the Valerion Visionmaster Pro 2 and liked it quite a bit; if the Max genuinely improves on it, and it looks like it does, odds are it’s a very good projector, and could match the Nebula X1 on many metrics. That said, we don’t rely on marketing numbers as projectors almost always measure lower post-calibration (D65), so we’ll reserve judgment until we run our standardized tests on a retail unit.

    Not me. Buzzing is only with RBE reduction turned on, but I'm sensitive, so it'll stay that way. I considered a mini "hushbox" to silence the buzz but I only notice it when content is paused so it's probably not worth the time

    Hey, I think you got me wrong. This isn’t paid stuff. I’ve actually been doing a little running series on my own Max (you might’ve even seen my earlier posts). This is just me geeking out and writing down my experience. Took me a lot of time to put it together, so kinda hurts to see it called marketing lol. I get your point though ,specs and brightness numbers can swing a lot depending on firmware, WB settings, even the iris. I’m not trying to argue absolute values, just sharing how it looks in my setup. Different takes are welcome, that’s what makes these threads fun.

    Yeah I’ve spent time with the Pro2, but mostly from friends rather than owning it myself. For me the RBE on Max feels a lot more controlled, even with sensitive eyes it hasn’t bothered me the way some DLPs did before. On Pro2 I also noticed the chromatic aberration in menus like you said, but during movies it was less of an issue. Curious to hear your take once your Max arrives.

    They patched Rainbow after I returned it and pre-ordered Max. Personally, I find blacks better on Max, but I had been using DLPs for 15 years and was used to slightly washed-off colors and less contrast in pictures compared to Max or Pro2. Your plan sounds solid. If I had Rainbow patched, I would have kept Pro2; it was a good fit for me in terms of price/quality. Give it a try. .

    I barely had Pro2 for two days( i catch a rainbow before patch and send it back) but was not $2k stunned with Max. It’s better in picture, no rainbow, and Iris is the thing, but i would rather save 2k if had that option. I’m perfectly happy with Max, on my 133” it’s next level after my previous Benq tk700sti. If money is not a factor, and you got a bit of perfectionism in you i would go with Max.it just better, but for me it’s not 2k better.

    I've had both projectors but I'll just start with the pro 2. It was a major upgrade to my eyes versus the Epson. The black levels of the Epson are better, but it's not significantly better when the ebl is engaged. What is significantly better on the Valerian? Its the color volume and the HDR tone mapping. I sold the Epson some time ago which was just a secondary projector once I got the Pro 2. The Max is now better than the Pro 2 including the black levels. So if the Pro 2 was already better than the Epson and the Max to me will be much better. I don't have the Epson anymore obviously so I can't compare it to the max but I already did that with the Pro 2

    I've already given my opinion of the new Xgimi projector the native contrast is false. It's only with the iris completely clamped down which means super low lumens. As far as the whole fan, bit that's to me more people being a little neurotic I don't use a fan. It looks completely fine. That's a tiny segment like 1% or less than a percent of owners, but of course they're going to always be the most vocal. By the way, there's a good amount of people that are seeing rainbows with the Titan which does not have the rbe reduction. So if you're sensitive to rainbows, the Titan would not be the best projector. I guess you would have to test it yourself to see how it affects you

    I was an early Max backer and received a Pro 2 loaner, so I've been using a VisionMaster for awhile now. I replaced an Optima UHD50X. The Pro2 and Max are absolutely improvements over the Optima, and not just in image quality, which is substantially better, but that would be expected for something at a higher price point and substantially newer. But there were image quality issues as well as issues with overall quality and support. There were significant issues with the UHD50X (notably a split screen issue) that Optima never resolved, there was no ongoing firmware support, and they basically abandoned a flawed product early in its lifespan. I was going to buy the BenQ HT4550 to replace it, but it also has well documented flaws, which it seems BenQ has selectively addressed with replacements. And most projector manufacturers quote the 'best' metrics even if they are in generally unusable picture modes. This is a common topic of projector reviews, where brightness is measured, often well below the ratings, in different and more accurate picture modes. Point being, the VisionMaster is a good product that is not perfect, and there's definitely some overblown hype and fanboyism happening (the Facebook group is overrun with this) but the 'anything' vendors' products you noted have had their own product issues. I had no issues with my Pro2, but a lot of people did (wifi disconnected, image sensor issues, power supplies), and my Max is now working well and it was absolutely worth the Kickstarter price. The build quality, image, and features are at the level I'd expect, in actual usage. In my room, and with my eyes, there is nothing this projector does that is problematic or detracting from the experience, both models just look great. This was not the case with the Optima. The current level of product support is also excellent but time will tell how that plays out. When I got my Max they indicated a firmware update to further refine the software was in development as well, which is a positive sign I think. Only time will tell with ongoing support or reliability.

    Don't bother with epson 5050. It's a good projector (I have one) but you want to get a laser projector nowadays. Look into Epson LS12000, QB1000, or Valerion VisionMaster Max. Max offers the best value - at $4000 it presents better image quality than Epson LS12000 ( people are upgrading from LS12000 to Max).

    Interestingly reviewers compared Max side by side with JVC several times its price and the Max held up pretty well, and even has an upper hand on sharpness and color accuracy. It's certainly a market disrupter.

    The 11000 is not (to me) all that impressive. In point of fact, if you're looking for a $2000 ballpark projector and Epson, you should probably be considering the 5050ub. It's similar to the LS11000 but with a bulb lightsource instead of laser, and it has considerably better contrast and black level capabilities, surprisingly enough. Off the cuff and off hand, the over 7000:1 contrast that The Hook Up measured alone would make me go with the Valerion at this point. You'd have to make sure to install it in such a way as to minimize or eliminate the use of digital keystone but it does at least have a small 1.2 optical zoom that could probably help a lot. I believe Epson and some other old school manufacturers were just run over. They just haven't noticed yet. Another threat to Epson is coming from "above", from JVC. Their entry level is now at similar prices as Epson's QB1000 (the successor to the LS12000)... so the reasons to go Epson are rapidly diminishing if they keep their stated pricing point. But anyway... At $2 grand the Valerion looks like the one to beat imo. $3500 would sting more. Just one guy's opinion obviously.

    Unfortunate that the colors couldn't be dialed in to your preference. I haven't really seen that in the other things written about it. That photo by the way is so misleading it's almost worse than not having a photo. For me the biggest wow factor with the Max in addition to the EBL and stuff is the interchangeable lens - specifically, that there's going to be an anamorphic third party lens at $1k or less (well, that's what they're aiming at). Getting real 2.35:1 widescreen for around 6 grand all in, well, that's not the usual price point for that.

    I have an Epson. I'd buy a Valerion (well, in my case, either a Nexigo or maybe the new AWOL - I like UST's). The Valerion Max can use an anamorphic lens, and there's a company/guy in Canada already designing one and taking pre-orders; Valerion has said that they'll provide anamorphic support in the software to properly stretch the image to get you 2.35:1 Epson's price/performance is just not quite on point. They want stupid money for their stuff, prices that simply aren't warranted (the QB1000 for instance).

    For me, the biggest pro of the Max would be the interchangeable lens. They've demonstrated some kind of prototype of an anamorphic lens. But the total cost would add up quite a bit, I doubt such a lens would be free either.

    Yeah; the function seems to be to swap the colors (that's what causes RBE, sequentially switching from R to G to B) multiple times faster than normal. So each color is shown a much shorter time, so the eye no longer picks up the flashes as readily.

    They can make amazing projectors but I'm still mighty leery about the Chinese brands. It's more of a crapshoot than I'd like, and the support situation is amorphous at best. Especially so as I'm not in America and they have zero presence in my country, at least the US is a large enough market they must have *some* resources in place. I'd still like a Max with an Anamorphic addon lens and a proper 2.35:1 screen. Just... you know - a good one. The next step up to get an anamorphic setup is probably a five figure price hike.

    Intersting review. I'm sure it's a great projector, but the pricing is wack for a unit that's a minimal upgrade on the LS12000. If I weren't so into UST's now I'd rather buy a Valerion Max tbh. And I would, based on that unit alone, dispute that there's nothing comparable in the price range, on paper all the stats of the Visionmaster Max dropkicks the QB1000 into a well, "300" and "this is Sparta!" style.

    I had the 5050ub with a MadVR htpc. I now have a Visionmaster Max also using that same MadVR htpc. The Max is significantly sharper, brighter, and has a much larger color space. The black level is about the same. The 5050ub might beat it slightly there but it's close. The 5050ub is much louder too and twice the size/weight. It has horizontal shift whereas the Max does not, so that's a plus if you can't center the projector. Overall the Max is a clear upgrade and I absolutely loved my 5050 for years.

    The 5050/5060 UB can do a little bit beyond rec709 color normally or if you engage the color filter with digital cinema mode, it can do most of P3, however, you take a huge brightness hit, which in my opinion makes it unwatchable. The Max on the other hand can do about 100% rec2020 which is incredible (even $30k JVC can't do that). 3D on the Max has less crosstalk than Epson so it appears clearer, however, you can't disable rainbow effect for 3D on the Max at the moment like you can with regular content (which sucks if you are sensitive to it). Hopefully they fix it in a firmware update. Also currently the Max has a bug where it's missing half the resolution in 3d content, but that should be fixed as well. I didn't really notice the half resolution issue, but it's a confirmed thing. But even with those two flaws, it's actually pretty good. To be honest, I'm so happy with the MadVR processing for both tonemapping as well as black bar detection, I haven't really tried the Max's built in tonemapping. I have my MadVR settings dialed in pretty well, I can't imagine built in tonemapping can beat it. But I hear it's pretty good, generally!

    This is my first, however I spent months researching. For me I needed a very specific throw distance (12’ maximum, 10 feet minimum) and I wanted to be able to throw at least a 130” screen but preferably 135”. Those two requirements greatly reduced the number of projectors that will work for me. Then I wanted something that was versatile enough to work in no light conditions and in well-lit conditions for sports games, etc (it’s a fully light controlled room). I wanted to get deep blacks, have no noticeable RBE, and have high quality picture. I found side by side comparisons to be the most helpful for me and for me it came down to BenQ, Valerion, and Epson. In the end the Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 and the Max stood out from the others for my specific requirements, and I like the aesthetic as well. I just sent it in their Black Friday deal and I’ve been quite impressed thus far!

    I’ve only got the cheapo Valerion screen mostly because I wanted to avoid ALR & laser speckle. Obviously in full light no projector is going to be perfect, but I don’t think many people are watching sports and like “wow the black levels are stunning in this game” lol. For my eye, it’s got a great picture higher brightness and extremely good in low light (check out the YouTube reviews of it against $17,000 projectors, side by side it kills the $17k projector).

At those price jumps, I would expect a refined product with software and quality control issues worked out.

    Yeah, but the 82% price increase for the Max kind of turns it from an excellent deal to what feels like a rip-off for anyone who comes later. I know Kickstarters need a discount, but they’ve kind of shot themselves in the foot on that one for future “msrp” sales. I’d rather spend $2600 for a LS11000, than $4000 for a Max that used to be $2200. Plus it’s DLP, and I’m very sensitive to rainbows, so it already has that negative to overcome.

    Yea I definitely get why people don’t like how big the Epson remote is. But I strangely like it. Regarding colors, you may be right about how I see the colors. But fwiw my wife has the exact same opinion about the tint. Either way, we’re aligned on preferring the Epson image 9 times out of 10, so that’s what we kept. I’ve come to realize how much of this can come down to preference over specs.

    You’re probably right about the photo being too misleading. Even with description, I probably shouldn’t have it. At first, the discussions understood my point, but now it’s distracting from what I was really trying to convey. There’s no way to remove or replace it, is there? And yes I think the interchangeable lenses are an awesome feature at this price point. Especially with how bright this thing is.

    I wasn’t going for a hit piece by any means. I tried photographing them individually, but that doesn’t make a difference. I debated whether to include the image at all because on the surface it’s misleading. Maybe I shouldn’t have included it. I did include it just to provide context and validity to how I observed them side by side simultaneously IRL. Then I made clear to explain it. In terms of quality issue, that’s what’s I’m genuinely trying to see if it’s me, a setting, or something is actually wrong with the unit. Turns out the color flickering was identified to be a setting (EBL). And I highly praised some aspects of the Valerion that I really am impressed by. I’m just trying to offer a few more data points that I hadn’t seen represented in any of the research I’ve been doing heavily over the past month. Didn’t mean to offend.

Even now the only usable dynamic iris is ust like nexigo ap mk2 - valerion had to cancel theirs despite writing it on their lens (shows how far behind ust that LT are at now). Valerion newest and best projector? - a new ust. Although LT do have higher ansi contrast in comparison to ust but most room or even a cave won't see a difference. However, do note awol / valerion has history of making empty promises and false claims. They previously gave out golden unit with black iris that has better ansi contrast while then quietly changed to lesser silver iris. Their max which they claim to be 15% brighter than pro2 turns out to be even dimmer post calibration. Imo better to get hisense or nexigo for ust, or wait for more options.

Some of the issues brought up is needing external fan to reduce thermal throttling, bad CS support, slow bug / firmware update, alignment issue with bowing if you use 1.5 throw, 3d only show half resolution and missing pixels etc - tbf mediatek cpu issue, picture too green / yellow that adjust point is insufficient to correct it.

There were dozens and dozens of valerion out there too, yet the thermal issue was not caught earlier too. True, but the opposite doesn't work too. What's the point of silent fan when it has thermal throttling and can't perform? Look at the old intel macbook that needed to use a freezer to cool it.

    Then that's just disappointing. Is it quiet is not a good measure. Look at valerion, they intentionally made the projector quieter by changing the fan curve, it ended up quieter at the expense of thermal - it became hotter as the fan rpm was lowered and they tell users to use external fans.

    Imo it depends on which kind of room you prefer to view your content. Some do prefer the cave as it's more "cinematic", while others prefer a normal room and some even prefer to have the room with lights on. For speckle, you need to see it yourself as you might be ok with it or you don't even see it. Wab or spandex is a way to reduce the speckle. You can also consider alpd or hybrid projector as they have less speckle. Imo don't get a long throw like valerion pro2/ max and use it with alr/clr screen as long throw ones don't work as well. If you need alr/clr screen then go for ust. There's the upcoming nexigo ap mk2 and hisense px4 pro. For screen size 150" will definitely be a nice experience but if you rather not deal with a completely dark room or alr screen then imo going for 98" tv is the better choice. However, do note if you can fit the tv into your house as mine is limited to 86", like physically can't even fit into the door.

    Even jvc can't give you oled black. For context my $150 55" hisense QLED e7 tv has 350 nits and 5000 contrast, so it has better PQ than my $5k 120" Valerion max. Also, the tv is consider dim at 350 nits too. Bigger size picture is nice but you shouldn't expect tv PQ, don't say oled as it can't even beat basic QLED tv in terms of PQ.

    Best part is when you call out such people they hide and say they're not "reviewers" but just someone giving feedback. While Valerion feature them in a video hyping the product for marketing, they also eat dinner with Valerion team during conference. So for example the person say valerion max is brighter than nebula x1 despite x1 having extra headroom, the person just reply it's what they can see. So no need to post actual lumens numbers and simply say brighter while not even under NDA but is just being respectful to them by not giving out the numbers. Now it turns out the valerion max is even dimmer than the pro2 lol. Even if your points are valid and correcting the person, they would play victim card and act like they're being harassed while ignoring the points made were needed to correct them.

    100 nits is the target for sdr but even then a lot of people prefer even brighter picture. There's a feedback from someone who use 2.8 gain screen and enjoyed it, so even 100 nits may not be enough for sdr. Supposedly the target for hdr will be 200 nits. Yes tri laser with decent tone map can do decently for hdr but your size is too big and projector with iris will lose even more brightness. Imo no projector can do hdr like a tv that can easily hit 1000 nits. Even with decent tone mapping there will issues such as clipping etc. Also, 12 feet throw for 151", ain't that 1.0 throw ratio? Which will mean you will lose ~40% contrast. Projector does best at their minimum zoom / max throw which for Valerion will be 1.5 throw ratio.

    Their lens shift is meant for a stand or coffee table and not ceiling mount which still need to be align with the screen. If your screen is at 88" height then the projector needs to be there too. The vertical shift range for the projector placement will be from 56" - 88" for your screen. So it's either you align the pj to the middle or top of your screen.

    If you can afford jvc and sony, just get them. The Valerion is not worth its retail price considering its competitors like nebula, dangbei, xgimi are all significantly cheaper. If you can fit 115" tv, just get them. Not easy to fit into the door, hall way, lift so if you can make it work then tv is better imo.

    Iirc nexigo has something similar to fixed iris as it limits the brightness. I prefer ust due to better and easier choice of alr screen. Xgimi 20, nebula x1 are different than nexigo alpd ones fyi. So your sensitivity to rbe and speckle matters in such choice. It's not that nebula x1 doesn't suffer sub issue, it's inherent to all dynamic dimming and nebula has one too. However, if you disable nebula subpar dynamic, then their native contrast with iris won't have such issue. Native contrast in the nebula x1 has the advantage over Valerion whose advantage is the ebl which works great if you don't use subtitles. Nebula version of ebl is not great so it's not really a loss for users using subtitles. Nebula x1 lens is sharper but cpu is laggier and has more rbe than the significantly more expensive valerion max though.

    For nexigo tri vision you should wait for mk2, supposedly launching soon. If you have no experience with tri laser dlp, you should demo first to check your sensitivity to rbe or buy one with great return policy. For subtitles users go for higher native contrast, so projector with iris. However, do note you will trade brightness for the contrast. May not be suitable for big screen users. Best is Dangebi s7 max, for good value it's nebula x1 and for rbe sensitive user it's valerion max (it's good but only if you can get it for less than $3k).

    Lol agree with the echo chamber. You post negative things on their avs thread and fb page, they'll call you trolling haha. I got banned from both for pointing out their bias. Valerion fanbois are also big fans of dynamic contrast as they don't seem to use subtitles. You can see their comparison videos / pictures showing ebl and how great it is are all without subtitles, which is fine for americans who only watch english content. Think you might saw my comment on x1 with iris having better contrast but the gap is not that big and it's due to valerion max throttling. Valerion does have upside with ebl (if you don't use white subtitles), global support, english menu, faster chip compared to x1, rbe reduction. Downside, it's losing in terms of brightness to newer ones like nebula x1, jmgo n5, viddda c5 and dangbei s7. X1 is sharper too. Valerion retail price is unnecessarily high too. Their support is non existent and feels like abandoned ware. Pro2 only has 1 fw update in ~9 months and still got plenty of bugs. For users sensitive to rbe and want English menu, global warranty support and want snappier built in google tv, Valerion seems to be the only option for tri laser. Don't buy retail price though.

    Posting is an indicator of nothing for reddit, my last post was 5y ago but my comments are quite active. The projector certainly is not exceeding all expectations. The hook up youtuber doesn't even use it for his daily use. Valerion own fb mod is complaining about the lack of support. Early user of the max has been complaining about thermal throttling too. Just be fair and say it's a good projector and list down both the upside and downside. Ebl is still great if the user use case can use it. Other parts of valerion is being matched by competitors now.

    Yes, it's inherent to dynamic contrast. However there is a work around ish - just the color of subtitles to dark color or higher opacity. The issue is simple, ebl - dynamic contrast won't activate with subtitles in dark scenes is simply due to the subtitle being the brightness part of the scene. So how can the laser dim in dark scenes when there's a bright subtitle in it.

    Do you want to be in a pitch dark room with your clients? Even if you do, maybe your clients wont. Long throw like your 2 options need a cave for their black level. So imo better to get ust projector + alr screen if the room has any ambient light and not a cave. Color accuracy is also an issue with tri laser dlp due to metamerism, it's so bad that the recommended way to calibrate is just base on visual comparison as the meter result can't be trusted. For color accurate professional work, stick to a monitor.

Some early users and reviewers got the one with black iris which has higher ansi contrast while everyone else gets a silver iris - despite their marketing on the website that says black iris. Their CS response was it has no difference - which is not true. Hence, in the link I mentioned reviews are meaningless as the unit that user receives will likely be different than those reviewers. The person that replied was insistent that since it is was in mass production phase means there will be no changes and there won't be qc issues. Also, all the awards and youtuber review must be right.

    Do you have the room that's dark enough for iris to matter? Do you watch content with subtitles? Your light control as in black wall / ceiling and floor kind of room or just no window? Max over titan will be if you have a room dark enough and don't use subtitles. Titan is significantly brighter. Actually even if you pick max, I rather go for the brighter nebula x1 which has dynamic iris or brighter dangbei s7 (ai mode) Valerion requires additional fan - need at least 140mm one stick to its side to prevent throttling, looks ugly though. Also, might need a towel or foam to rest as some report unwanted noise / rattling.

    The LS11000 will be handily outmatched by the Titan Noir. Hell, the 7+ year old Epson 5050UB is a better option than the LS11000. The Valerion Max also is a step up on the LS11000. The LS11000 is a LCD laser projector, other than that, it is a pretty weak overall performer. Careful where you get your reviews from. AVS Forum is a good resource. Reddit can be dodgy, but some people know what they are talking about.

    The Hook Up looked at both models and he said that the Noir was better than the Max. That was enough to push me to jump in on the Kickstarter. We will see how it pans out. I installed a Valerion Max recently, so I do have the ability to test them side by side if needed. Really, the Valerion is one of the best looking projectors I've seen, and the price I paid was fully worth it. I struggle to ever pay more than $3,000 for a projector for my theater. I expect in a few years, we will see this level of quality for under $3,000 regularly.

    As I sit here staring at a Valerion Max, I feel like your opinion on this is kinda crazy. For what it is worth, I can't stand sparkling, and do notice it when I see it. I'm also RBE sensitive, and I am capable of seeing it with this model, and it is incredibly low RBE compared to other models I have seen. If you just don't like DLP, then that has nothing to do with the light technology used.

    Despite what was said by others, the Valerion Max is a excellent looking projector. It has been very well reviewed, and tested, by various reputable websites and professional reviewers. I have one installed at a client's home and it looks amazing. Tested my JVC DLA-X590 against it and it was sharper, and brighter by a mile with what appears as very similar black levels. The jump in brightness, color saturation, and sharpness is what really got me thinking about swapping my JVC to one. If not Valerion, then perhaps a XGimi Horizon 20 series. But, honestly, if you can't get the projector up a foot or two, then just stick with a model that offers a much longer throw distance. Epson has been quite nice, but I would then go to JVC if my budget allowed for it at all. I like Epson as a company, and I appreciate that they are calling others out for overstating the projector's brightness, but, in fairness, with best color accuracy? Epson is a LONG way off from their claimed brightness very often once calibrated for best image performance. The LS12000, rated at 2,700 lumens, measures about 1,000-1,400 lumens when in 'best' modes. So, don't really expect a massive jump in brightness to go along with the jump in contrast.     There is a lot to like about what Valerion is doing with their product. There was a recent shootout on YouTube pitting the Valerian Pro (I beleive) against JMGO and XGimi and it was a clearly better model. I'm not sure it will end up being better than the 5050UB in the real world, but it may be a really solid competitor, and the lens shift and zoom range are real stand outs. If someone is chasing a really solid DLP projector, then I think this may be the model to get in 2025 when it finally is available to the public. I am only concerned with them using the smaller .47" DLP chip and hope it proves to be incredibly reliable overall. The Epson is a proven product. It is supported by a well established manufacturer. It is known to be really good. So, there is that.

    The JMGO N3 Ultimate really should be on your watch list as well. If this is to be fully installed, then consider the XGimi Titan Noir in the list as well. The X1 Pro is a projector, plus a separate sound system, smooshed together. Unless you need that portable sound system, then don't buy them together. Get a surround sound system and get a projector, and install them both properly. I have installed the VisionMaster Max, and frankly it hasn't had any issues during use and looks great. One of the best looking models I have ever installed. While some do complain of throttling issues, this is not something I experienced on my installation and testing of the projector. The XGimi Titan Noir is designed for installation and home theater far more than the lifestyle models like the JMGO N3 Ultimate. But, image wise, they will be very close to one another and will all look really good.

    I have read, heavily, reviews. I have personally seen the 5050UB, I have a JVC DLA-X590R which is generally considered better than the 5050UB. I have seen the Valerion Max, myself, and put it up against my JVC, and was thoroughly blown away by how much better the Valerion performs compared to the JVC. Any number of reviewers have been disappointed by the LS11000 in that it doesn't match the contrast of the 5050UB which is years older. It is between the 4010 and the 5050UB in terms of contrast, and yes, contrast is king. Considering the Valerion Max has been put up against the current JVC models, which are several steps better than the LS11000, and the Titan Noir Max is compared better, from trusted reviewers than the Valerion Max, it once again, makes it a no-brainer. It's less money and looks better and sharper than the LS12000. Why would you spend even more money on the LS11000 to get a drop in quality? When I say better, I mean for HDR performance. For contrast. For motion handling. For color accuracy. Placement flexibility goes to Epson almost every day of the week. For good reason. But, the Titan Noir comes closest of any sub $3,000 DLP projector. Far better than the competing BenQ models or Valerion Pro. It's not an all-or-nothing scenario. Epson will have wins. No RBE on Epson, that's massive for people who are RBE sensitive. But, a step down in contrast from the 7 year old 5050UB is a slap in the face to consumers. Yeah, I'm informed. I do my homework. I own multiple projectors. I've seen many different models. I don't think the LS11000 is crap. It is a very solid $2,500 (maybe $3,000) projector. It is a very overpriced $4,000 projector. The competition it has is very real and the only reason to spend that type of money is because someone is seriously RBE sensitive.

    I didn't have any luck with my Denon powering on/off the Valerion Max when I was using it. Not sure why. I did have the ability to send CEC codes to the projector though through my remote system, and that ended up working just fine, so that's what I went with.

    I will add that I have seen screens that are on the cheap side that use beaded glass surfaces on them. They are high gain, using the cheapest materials possible. So, they tend to sparkle and shimmer when using any brighter projector. I've seen this on a number of positive gain screens over the years, and especially cheaper manual screens. I had a buddy who was showing off his setup, but I couldn't get past the sparkling effect I was seeing. I've become much more intolerant of it over the years. That said, I'm didn't see any sparkle/shimmer using the Valerion Max on a WAB Silver Ticket screen. None.

    The 120" screen size seems reasonable if you must buy it before you can check out the screen size for yourself. The Valerion is a solid projector that looks really good. Excellent choice. Not sure at all about the screen they sell with it. If it is a motorized screen, then I'd pass on that for a fixed frame screen if you can do so. Nothing that seems to indicate that you can't use a fixed frame screen in that room. As such, compare pricing within that of the Silver Ticket 120" matte white screen or similar. The projector location will be determined by the screen size. If you have some location you are hoping to use on your ceiling, then you still need to ensure you can get the screen size you are hoping for from that distance. Another option is the XGimi Titan Noir Max which is a very good value on Kickstarter right now, and has an excellent image as well. Don't forget about room audio. It deserves just as much, or more consideration than the projector itself.

    I don't believe there is a 'clear winner' here. XGimi will have firmware updates which can help with everything, but you can also calibrate to your liking, which may make them both very similar. It's not like one is awesome and the other sucks. It is that one is awesome and the other is also awesome, but one is slightly better in one category and the other is slightly better in another category. At the end of the day, neither truly ends up being significantly better in any obvious matter. The Valerion Max is a hell of a projector. I'd probably just stick with that if you own it already.

    I think you really have to go to models with a lot more brightness which we are seeing from products like the Valerion Max or the XGimi Horizon 20 series. The new Noir series from XGimi should be pretty incredible as well. Just a superior level of brightness overall. The large DLP chip used in the HT2060 has been out for years, and is a really high quality product with solid contrast and BenQ has nailed their product delivery for the last 10+ years with this chip since the W1070 was released.

    Bluetooth is not a 'sound system' - It's a type of headphone. Don't expect audio to be in sync, or for high quality audio doing things this way. Serviceable. That's it. I would go for the Noir if installing permanently. The form factor is a little more low profile, so it can be used with proper traditional projector mounts which will hold it securely in place. That's a big plus after installing the Valerion Max and finding the ceiling mount and the significant drop of the projector to be pretty major flaws in the overall setup. Otherwise, as both come from XGimi, I wouldn't expect massive differences in them.

    I don't have any high pitched noise at all. The projector runs really quiet overall. I seriously have no idea if there has been any firmware update for RBE reduction, but I can tell you I just find RBE very hard to see on this one. Feels like an 8x or faster color wheel equivalent. I have to look for RBE, and even then, it's barely there. So, thumbs up to them on doing a great job. I see it way easier on my BenQ W1070, which I do find mildly irritating when watching a movie.

    There are many who tested both in this thread: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/xgimi-pushes-into-premium-projection-with-the-titan-noir-max.3339013/page-387?post_id=64575537#post-64575537 But if you don’t want to read through hundreds of pages then yes the Titan Noir Max is much better than the Valerion in most regards. There are 2 main things that the Titan noir doesn’t necessarily do better:   Right now its RBE reduction isn’t quite as powerful, but it’s silent unlike the buzzing noise on the Valerion.  Right now the DBLE feature is not as aggressive as the EBL feature on the Valerion. But, it’s much more stable and less color shifting as a benefit.

    I’ve been neck deep in this research myself, so I get where you’re coming from exactly. I’ve concluded the X1, especially with its recent and future firmware updates, is objectively the better projector. It’s technically even objectively better than the Valerion Max in terms of raw contrast and lumens, but the Max’s processing and software are more refined and may lead to a better looking image.  My dealbreaker may also be your dealbreaker: the X1 can’t output a pure 24hz. I have had it confirmed from other people that when you set your external devices, such as a computer, to 24hz, it is accepting that signal but internally processing it at 60hz with 3:2 pulldown conversion. It has MEMC motion interpolation to help that conversion look smooth, but I don’t want to risk “fast forward motion” soap opera type effects, which is why I’m holding off.

    People already covered most topics but I want to recommend you to try calibrating the white balance in your Max PJ to avoid that extra green you see. This can be done very easily with a good result following this steps: - Take a phone or a tablet (they are usually well calibrated) and pick an image that can serve as a reference (the one you used for the photos might be good) - Set the image config in Cinema/Theater with Warm1 color (this is usually the best one) - Go to "2 point white balance" setting (or similar) and play a bit with the green and blue gains (not offsets) until the image is more similar to the reference image (since the red laser is the one usually throttling, you need to reduce blue and green, don't ever use positive gains there) Once this is set, try again to watch something to see if It looks better and there are less shifts even with EBL on.

    I've been using the same standard mount for years through different projectors and it never drifted an inch, including now with the Valerion since April (First Pro2 now Max). I was able to adapt it to their tripod-like mount without problems and it didnt move either (They even sell an adapter now). If you have drift, I'm afraid the problem is not the projector but the mount... so I would say this is not really a thing to consider when deciding.

    I just received my Max for a home theater I’m in the process of building. Old home theater had a Panasonic pj. That was 17 years ago. Preliminary viewing, the Max looks much brighter and sharper. I’m going with a 165” screen so it can also project to a much bigger image.

Regardless, here is my response to the criticism in this post: * **Lumens:** No projector ever hits its advertised brightness in the most color-accurate mode. The 3,500 ISO lumens is based on the brightest possible mode, and every review I’ve seen confirms that number is accurate. If you are going to complain about the calibrated brightness on the max, then that means every projector is just as guilty. * **Dynamic Iris:** The Max doesn’t have a dynamic iris yet. That’s coming in a future update. The claims in this post saying that it has poor contrast without it are ridiculous and uninformed; this seems to be a theme in this post. * **Thermal Throttling:** I’ve seen no reputable reviews or users reporting red laser thermal throttling on the Max. That seems completely baseless. Feel free to prove me wrong on this. * **Chromatic Aberration:** I have also seen no reviews or users mention chromatic aberration being an issue. Even if it were noticeable in extreme torture tests, it doesn’t matter for normal movie watching. * **Gaming:** The 4K/60Hz input lag is 15ms, which is very good, even for competitive gaming. (which you shouldn't do on a projector anyway). Criticizing the 1080p/240Hz 4ms spec is weird since 1080p is still the most common gaming resolution, over 53 percent of Steam users play at 1080p, and all modern consoles run it fine. There are good reasons to criticise the max, such as the price, low native contrast, laser speckle, brightness pumping, and color accuracy issues during warm-up, to name a few. The criticisms in this post are just plain stupid.

    I got my max this week, and it has been phenomenal. I am probably in the group that glazes on valerion a little too hard, but there is a good reason for it. Previously, I have tried projectors like the Epson 5050ub and BenQ HT2060, and I have viewed over a dozen high-end projectors in demo rooms. For me, the valerion is my perfect projector. I don't have the room or the budget to go with a huge JVC, Sony, or Epson, but I also don't feel like I need to. I don't have any RBE sensitivity, and I am working on a huge budget. Maybe I don't have a well-trained eye, but at EBL low with the IRIS dialed in, the black levels are so low that I can't imagine watching anything and thinking I would need more contrast. But contrast isn't my favorite part about the max; it is the colors. Watching movies on this projector feels like I am watching them with fresh eyes; it is an absolute joy. I hear that virtually all triple laser projectors produce colors like this, and I haven't actually seen any other triple laser projectors in person, so maybe that is the real game changer for me. Regarding this person's criticisms, they don't feel unbiased to me. There isn't any projector that matches the advertised lumens in the most color accurate mode, the max can achieve 3500 lumens in a less color accurate mode, it isn't deceptive at all. OP also doesn't even realize that dynamic iris isn't included in the max yet; that is coming in a future update. And then the throttling and chromatic aberration claims are completely baseless in my experience; I haven't seen anyone who is experiencing those issues on the Max. Doesn't feel genuine to me.

    I don't think any of us can give a great answer to this question to be honest. Though ProjectorJunkies did say this in his review: "As a DILA owner too i can say only this, its time to upgrade. The Valerion is better on every aspect of the picture, can not match the JVC black level of course, but its closest than ever.     The XGIMI 20 Pro Max is an absolute beast; we just put it side by side against the Valerion Max yesterday and for over $1,000 less, it seemed like a no brainer - there are some firmware/software issues still be worked out on the XGIMI as well though, so it's certainly not without its bugs right now, but it is a light cannon with a great image that's only going to get better.

    I've heard WAB screens help a lot with speckle and my max and pro 2 had/have pretty bad speckle on a silver ticket 150in white screen, I got used to it and its really only noticeable on white heavy scenes like clouds or sky shots. But it is there if you really look for it.

    So just to be devil's advocate here a little bit. The bowing and thermal throttling is a unit-by-unit variation (which in no way excuses it). For example I went through two Pro 2 units which had a very annoying thermal throttling issue where the red laser would tank output by a huge amount when it was up to normal operating temp. Even with external fans it didn't help because operating at 35c (internal temp reported by the OSD) would be fine but then going to 36c+ would start seeing the dramatic drop on the red laser. The proj would operate at at 40-42c with the internal fans and even with a massive external fan I could only get get it down to 36-37c so would still experience the laser throttling. The throttling also affected the native contrast ratio. I posted detailed measurements on the avforums regarding this. The 3rd unit I have is absolutely perfect and performs amazingly. So I truly believe that Youtubers reviewed in good faith, but received cherry picked units which do perform very well. But unfortunately it's a bit of a lottery as an end user. If you're like me and you've got the eye and patience to deal with this kind of thing (and order from Amazon for the easy returns), you *can* get a great unit. This is in no way a total defense of Valerion, their QC is dogshit and when I emailed them about it, with hard evidence re: unit-to-unit variance their response was essentially "yeah, but it's acceptable". But good units absolutely exist... (lol).

    It’s not due to it being DLP it’s due to it being tri-laser. The lasers produce very narrow spectral wavelength and your camera sensor is simply not accurately capturing it. The problem is this happens with humans too. You say it looked too green. That may be the case or it may just be your eyes. I also have trouble with RGB laser systems where my wife will see one thing and I’ll see another.

    He’s also admittedly not very sensitive to laser speckle or the color shifts that some see in EBL. He also doesn’t wear glasses (which can cause color fringing with tri laser light sources). Not making a judgement either way as I have yet to see the Titan but the inclusion of the .78” DMD is a pretty big deal. But I would wait on both as Xgimi seems to still be figuring out there firmware and the MAX is currently cooking itself so much so that owners are sharing direction on how to strap fans to the damn thing. Love the innovation of these Chinese firms but QC and ability to ship a complete product seems to allude them. This is traditionally not an issue for legacy brands like Epson that tend to ship a complete product day 1… Edit: But wait 5 minutes and there’s a new model: Xgimi is already teasing a Titan Noir with 10,000:1 ‘native’ contrast. That ‘native’ designator seems fishy to me but it’s dropping soon so might pay to wait for reviews.

    Do not choose the Valerian not good. RBE is a series issue on it even with the reduction mode. Ive seen it and the Max in my room from friends having brought them over and all I can see is RBE trails behind everything. If I were you, I would choose the JVC. It's the best of the bunch BY FAR, though it does sacrifice 4K120 and any type of motion handling. The dynamic tone mapping is the best out of any tone mapping onboard projectors right now. I am NOT a believer that you need DV. It's nice, but I have done side by side comparisons on LG TVs, one with DV and one with HDR10 and the differences are mostly zero and sometimes something. It's not worth the effort, complication and expense that people make it out to be.

    I got one (at kickstarter price). Really nice projector as it has a great image. At 4k for projectors, it is within the range of a projector la of that price range easily. Though at the kickstarter price, well worth it obviously. Though all projector lose out to TVs, always have and always will besides size. Though even that is changing. That is if you have the space for the size of TV. I don’t have the space for that, I do space for a drop down screen.

    Yeah, it didn't show well at the Kansas Projector event. However, the guy that was responsible for it, stated he didn't have the best firmware for it and several people thought it was much better on the 2nd day after they got it dialed in better.

    Those are both excellent projectors. Valerion is a new startup and has had hiccups as it is gotten up to scale particularly getting the MAX out to people. They had quite the backlog, but it may be sorted by now. The RBE reduction feature has been reported to work extremely well, but introduces a high pitched whine. Also, it's hard to dial in correct colors since there is a cooling problem in the Max that causes laser throttling. The Valerion supports 3D, and also has Dynamic Tone Mapping which helps get the most out of HDR, as well as Dolbyvision. It's also a light cannon which allows for larger screens. On the whole it is a good product but has growing pains. The Epson LS12000 has been a huge hit since it was released at an excellent price point. There's no RBE because of the 3 chip design and it has a lot of happy users. There are issues with it, too, but not the kind of growing pain issues that the Valerion has. However, if you want 3D support, Epson no longer supports it. Personally, I think the LS12000 is ready to go, whereas with some work you can get the Max to work well. I would talk to ProjectionHead about what you want to accomplish and he could help you decide.

    I dunno. The folks reporting it in the AVS Thread for the Max seem to indicate its not internally well braced. However, only a few have reported the issue so it could be a unit by unit issue that a lot don't have. Even if you did have it, I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker as from what I've read its pretty minor. A good mount would let you correct it if it drifts pretty easily.

    The drift isn't really a mount issue, its the internals not being braced well to the case. I don't think the drift is huge, but depending on the sample, it could require recentering it at the mount since there's no horizontal lens shift.

    Def getting a screen. 175" is a bit to big for 10/11ft view distance so I'll probably be going 165 or 150 silver ticket. Still have to setup up the Def. Tech. surround also , but the wife lost her ability to work a couple month ago so I'm sitting in maintenance mode currently until we recuperate from that, then I'll finish the setup Yep.. blue wall without any color correction. Impressively enough it's far from a flat or straight wall too so I would say it's fairing pretty well.

    I was in the same situation as you, wanted the LS12000 but throw range just wasn't working great for my area. Ordered A VM Max because the throw range + later can put the second lense in it and maybe take it outside or something. The 3D and low input lag on game mode was a secondary plus as well. I'll be in a light controlled room shooting 135" at 10Ft throw and 11/12 foot viewing distance. I've got a pretty nice surround system to setup for it already, so I'm going to sell the included speakers and recover about 25 percent of my 4k Cost hopefully bringing the unit to a total of $3k, which I feel like for 3k the VM Max is pretty killer value.. First projector, pretty pumped to setup the theater room.

    I’d either jump on kickstarter and get the XGIMI Titan noir max for $3k or get a nebula x1 for $3k from soundcore new or if your a gambler Amazon has some refurbished for $1800 . Couldn’t tell you why they’re refurbished. I own the visionmaster max , nebula x1 pro and they both look really good , hopefully they’ll outlast the extended warranty from purchasing early on kickstarter but I do believe their rated for 25k hours of use . Currently waiting on the aetherion max ( ust version of the visionmaster max basically ) , and I’m also purchasing the Titan noir max as soon as the kickstarter ends in about three weeks. Also factor in the price of a screen that helps minimize laser speckle it’s an issue with laser projectors but not a big issue with the right screen .

    r/projectors · Upgraded from JMGO N1S Ultra to Valerion Visionmaster Max.

    I have a visionmaster max also , currently using an elite screens matte white 1.1 screen . I’ll be replacing it with an Grey ALR screen with speckle reduction. I think it will help the contrast considerably from what I’ve seen . Another thing about the max that I’m waiting on is the activation of the dynamic iris from the manual iris . That should also help with contrast from scene to scene . Try a different screen and wait on the firmware update for the iris and I’m sure you’ll be even more happy with the max .

    Probably going to end up being down to price at the end of the day . The x1 is currently about $1500 less than the visionmaster max . I own both and they’re pretty much neck and neck . The nebula’s iris is dynamic , while we are still waiting on valerion to make the max’s iris dynamic as promised from its introduction. There are YouTube video reviews comparing the two and they’re very comparable to each other. The $2500 nebula price compared to the $4000 for the valerion will be your biggest decision , as to if the max is worth the price difference.

    As an owner of Valerion max and a Valerion fresnel I can tell that daywatching experience is good almost great but it has laser speckle pretty bad. At night, speckle is much less noticeable, and rarely bothers me. Also, the screen is bright, very bright. The sun, lightbulb, flash of light, etc actually like in real life, super bright and immersive 😎 But honestly, I would go to something that doesn’t have speckle.

    EDIT: I think I’m going to go with the Pro2. The max looks nice, but I saw some side by sides done by a non-paid (as far as I could tell) YouTube reviewer who was pretty honest in saying the image quality is almost exactly the same between the two IMO. The only difference I could notice, is that the max did have better and more detailed blacks, but that was it, idk if that’s what contrast means essentially but the “contrast” between colors like red->green or purple->orange etc (idk just examples) was essentially the same from what I could see, it was only when there were shadows or increased vs decreased darkness in areas that I actually saw a difference. And even then, it was very subtle in most cases from what I saw. They had a dedicated home theater setup, but the walls did seem to be cream colored. In the first video the projected image size between the pro2 and the max was different so a commenter said that the max’s performance upgrades would be much more noticeable with the same screen size/throw distance, so the YouTuber did exactly that and even after doing that it looked exactly the same and I personally couldn’t tell a difference. The only thing I could think which would increase the perceived difference between the two would be if he had painted walls black instead of cream, that could make the max look better. But without that dedicated setup, while there is still a visual difference and the max looks “better”, to me personally the image quality was so similar I can’t really justify getting the max. TBH it’s almost like if I went to the store and they had two identical projectors with identical images displayed, and then the salesman goes “actually look here at the shadows, see how it’s a bit nicer here and there, that’s the $1,500 upgrade you’re paying for” and I’d be like “oh yeah huh I do notice that, it is a bit better I guess”, but like for all intents and purposes for me personally they’re the same and no way would I spend more for that. Now if it’s a dedicated theater, then it might be different, but for me I don’t have that and the pro2 looks perfect for me. I was considering the aetherion on kickstarter, since I’d be getting “$5,000 value” for $2k for backing early, but I decided against it. The main reason I want a projector tbh is for dem HUGE projected images onto my wall, I think currently mine is doing like 150 inches diagonally onto the wall or bigger, idk. I’m a newbie but just learned for the UST ones, having to be exact with projectors placement is no issue, but the screen placement needs to be exact as well, and what I didn’t consider is that if there are any bumps or deviations from being totally flat then it’ll give issues. There also may be issues with the edges of it as well, they may have fixed that but idk. I would have to purchase a 150 inch to 200 inch screen with the aetherion to get it to do what I’d want, which I don’t even know how much that would cost. There’s also the issue of delays etc, tbh for me personally it’s not worth it because I’m just going to be projecting onto my grayish-green wall (which is actually really well painted lmao and does have a gray color which idk but I think goes good with my current projector) until I can buy a normal projector screen. TL;DR: I think I’m going with Pro2, Max isn’t worth it without completely repainting my room, I considered the aetherion but needing to purchase a 150+ inch screen on top of the $2k projector isn’t feasible for me right now and I think I prefer the long throw format for right now.     Thanks 🙏 I’ll look into it for sure. I ended up already deciding that I’d get the pro2 instead of their visionmaster max or the aetherion, because the difference between the pro2 and the max screens was barely noticeable to me imo (the max did have better blacks and shadows but it was very subtle and not worth the extra money for me), and for the aetherion I didn’t want to go with an UST for a couple different reasons. The titan looks good, definitely better blacks than the aetherion, tbh the actual picture quality looks very very similar to me, I think the noir’s blacks look really good and dark but the picture quality itself was super similar to me tbh. I’ll look into it more, I’m a bit unfamiliar with kickstarter (I’ve used it before but I prefer Amazon due to easy returns in case of an issue and shipping estimates etc) but I’ll keep the noir in mind for sure, thanks!!

    Thanks 🙏 so I decided against the Max and the UST’s and I’m going with a pro2 I think. So the max was kinda out of my budget by a little ways already, I was just considering it because if I’m already spending 2k then I didn’t want to regret spending so much and missing out on a good experience. The UST tbh I don’t know that much about them but I think long throw would be better. I was looking at the aetherion but I didn’t want to spend $2k, wait until may at the earliest, then also have to buy a 150-200 inch screen for it, and I learned with the short throws you absolutely have to buy a screen and level it perfectly etc. I know this might sound like putting ketchup on a $500 steak here lmao but I’m just going to be projecting onto my wall until I buy a projector screen eventually. I think with the pro2 on sale rn that’ll be good enough so that I can be wow’d by the image and when I’m ready I’ll get a nice screen etc. and you were right with my room’s paint especially the max and the pro2 are identical, and with just using my wall for rn it’s definitely not worth the max

    Man, going from a $100 Voplls to a Valerion Pro2 is going to blow your mind. I made a similar jump and I still remember the first time I watched a dark scene and actually saw details instead of grey mush. For your setup, with that massive wall space (looks like you could easily do 150 inches), I'd go long-throw over UST. The Pro2 or Max will give you way more flexibility with placement. USTs are great for people who can't ceiling mount or have limited depth, but you've got space to work with. Between Pro2 and Max, at that discount, Pro2 is the better value. The Max is nicer but not $500+ nicer unless you really need the extra brightness. I [compared all the top projectors](https://medium.com/@dejan-k/projector-vs-100-inch-tv-2026-d0b6e18c3c14) including Pro 2, if you want more detail. But honestly, grab that Pro2 deal and use the savings for a decent screen or sound. You're going to be happy.

    Valerion just cancelled their long throw custom lens a few days ago. That combined with the innumerable product flaws and retconning the MVP (changing what they say the product is capable of) makes this tough to recommend. I would recommend the LS12000 if you can find it for around $4k. I was able to get the demo model from my dealer with a full 3 year warranty for that price, never really looked back.

    Yep, I saw this one too and I think Peter helped bury it. Part of this fun consumer protection data analytics stuff is keeping a log of how the marketing and promotional material changes over time, very telling as to what the company is up to and intentions. After the uncoated silver iris was discovered, the marketing around the original black iris got scrubbed overnight (huge gaslighting by retconning key selling features) They use Peter to deflate, deflect, and defend. In this case we have Deflection. Peter gets used to acknowledge the issue, then attempt to cast doubt as to whether silver vs dull black coating even affects the contrast when used inside of an optical body. Cognitive dissonance coors light to chug on.

I am an active member too and Bob banned me from my own Epson ls12000 thread for pointing out him actively driving Epson customers away from the product and towards the Valerion, without any substance, claiming he only owns an old iPhone 7 and cant take pictures, yet lives in a >$500k home he had built with $10k worth of projectors. Come on man. Cognitive dissonance craycray. Basically, the way I see it, this is the downfall of AVS. If you cant have unbiased moderation, what's the point of a forum? Its a DLP fan club if the influence is paid for. This problem has existed in the lower cost tier segments for projection but Hisense/Valerion has kicked it up a notch for sure with their "$5 billion 5 years" capex promise for roi. Problem is Hisense gear is really hard to move, nobody really actually wants it. The other problem is this is all COTS parts from TI. The whole valerion unit is basically a $1000 evm you can buy direct from TI with a fancy shell and an OS and an iris put on it. Not exactly a true vertically integrated product, more like a lego brick.     It's similar to the hubble telescope where your device was basically born with astigmatism at its edges, it's an optical block flaw. You aren't losing pixels, they're just going to be ever so slightly distorted. Good way to check would be to project an extremely tight grid pattern and then stand back and see if you can follow where the distortion occurs. It's probably not uniform, likely towards the edges 2/3rd the way out. Just a wild guess. I would send it back as you aren't the first with this documented flaw, and for nearly used car money it's laughable to get that quality out of a television product. I think I saw your post on AVS and they just sort of ignored you and kept on with their calibration discussion. I think they do that so the thread always stays relevant. Sorry for your luck but I would get a new one at least.

    I would only consider the Epson if you have a video processor, otherwise the Valerion Max will far exceed the image as you transition between SDR, HDR and it supports Dolby Vision. Having said that, I have a 6050ub with a video processor that solves those issues, so I prefer the increase in contrast and better lens options for placement and adjustments. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I would love to see a shootout with these with and without a video processor. My 6050ub without it was a constant frustration and disappointment unless I ran strictly in SDR mode.

    thanks for the link. Cinema mode starts out by having this weird motion smoothing effect turned on as standard, which I think already tells you how much you're supposed to take it seriously. From my experience, filmmaker mode on TVs is what they usually call the neutral mode without any motion or colour fuckery. but I will look at cinema as well, it just looks yellow on my unit so I didn't even bother with it.

    Triple laser often has a terrible red hue on photo but that's not the issue, that's far from what you see from your own eyes IRL. Color accuracy should be better on the Valerion, on paper and IRL. I think it all boils down to the screen. A white screen would probably change your results.     Awesome. Sounds very similar to my situation right now. Have it narrowed down to either the Max or an LS12000. My biggest worry is Max will be more finicky with ALR screens (laser speckle) and therefore not as good in lit environments watching sports. Sounds like you believe the Max does ok there? What screen do you have?

    The max is good, don't like the pro 2. I've seen both the Pro 2 and the LS12000, and both on default settings, the LS12000 destroys the pro 2. I like the Hookup, but I don't like the screens he uses, because it doesn't show the true sharpness and black level. I would choose the LS11000 over the 12000 AND the Max. The LS11000, Horizon 20 max, and refurb HT4550i are all projectors I would choose over any of these. Maybe just me, but I would buy all these over the max.

    Oh trust me it does. I spent an extra 350 for a chief rpmau due to drift. These companies don't make scam projectors, and when they say the projectors have "dolby vision" or "imax enhanced" it's true they do have it, but only the licensing, and it looks like shit compared to good HDR 10+ If it really was THAT groundbreaking, then companies like Epson and Benq would've jumped to it. Buy a refurb from [projectorscreen.com](http://projectorscreen.com) and talk to u/ProjectionHead and he will hook you up. Refurbs literally have 0 hours on the lamp, so it will basically be brand new. Dedicated theater has NOTHING to do with lens shift. Horizontal lens shift became so useful to me that now I won't buy a projector with out it. At least for me, 2k (0k with refurb) is 1000% worth it for peace of mind, a company who's been in the biz long, way better optics, better cooling, motorized lens, motorized lens shift/focus/zoom, and let's not forget - standard mounting points that let you pair it with the best mount of all time - the chief RPMAU. Will also be much quieter.

    I just got my Valerion Max all setup and the picture is amazing in my opinion. The hard part about choosing any projector is that the quality is all relative to what you’ve seen before. What I mean by this is how does the image look to you compared to other projectors you have seen. If you put the Valerion Max directly next to the JVC or Sony you’d see difference for sure I assume. If you have never seen those projectors and just see the Max against your previous projector I think you’ll see a massive improvement. I say all that because my Max compared to my LG HU810PW is a pretty big jump up in quality so I am extremely happy with it. The image is noticeably sharper and clearer, the colors pop WAY more and the black levels are much improved. Hopefully that all makes sense, main takeaway is I went from a 5 year old dual laser 4k projector to the Valerion Max and it is 100% worth it for me. Hope that helps!

    There are really good options in the Valerion price point. Any of them are solid choices, but whether the Valerion is worth a few hundred extra is tough these days. The horizon 20 didn’t exist when I purchased mine and I’d probably give it a hard look these days. I’d say you really don’t need the Max. I own several pro 2s and have seen the Max in person. I didnt see a large enough performance difference to justify the price jump. Screen wise I’m partial to ceiling mounted for stability, keeping everything dialed in, and more flexibility in material choice. But again, very much a user preference. Don’t cheap out on screens, it’s equally as impactful as the projector on image quality in my opinion.

    I’m pretty pro Valerion, I own several, and I just don’t see enough value difference between the pro 2 and the max to justify the price. You can get the pro2 on sale frequently for cheaper and it’d be my pick hands down. All the goodies they are offering in this promo are fine but not the best.     Max is the only one that has the RBE reduction right now, but my understanding is that there are plans to bring it to the Pro 2, but no official dates on that yet. If the RBE reduction feature is important to you then you should go with the Max or Pro2. If RBE is typically not a problem for you neither the Horizon 20 Max nor Horizon 20 Pro exhibit above average RBE and I think would be a better fit for your space.

    Max will have a decent brightness bump but a masive contrast increase, so if you want the best possible contrast and combined with high brightness get the max. Pro 2 will give you good brightness with ok'ish contrast so get it if you only need the brightness and want to save the cash, if you want the best contrast and don't need the best brightness i would look at Nexigo aurora mk II pro which will have Max level contrast for around 2k cheaper.

    Check out Valerion if you haven’t already. If you can work with short throw, it might be a solid alternative for you. Their second highest offering Pro 2 compares well with 5050 and even JVC. The top offering Max will start shipping only in May, but it has vertical lens shift and dynamic iris.

    I understand the general enthusiasm and the Kickstarter looks like a good deal. Personally, I am pretty skeptical about Kickstarters in general, particularly when an existing company uses one. If Valerion needed the Kickstarter to help fund the development of the Max that would be a little concerning. It would means they are operating on a razor thin margin. This would likely affect everything from it capacity to develop the product, continue to refine it and then offer long term support. It seems like a lot of the Valerion's performance comes from clever software like EBL and Tone Mapping.. It seems to be otherwise using using standard industry components like the DLP chip, processor and light engine. Which is good as it reduces the risks. Valerian it seems they are a sub-brand for AWOL which means they likely didn't actually need the money and are using Kickstarter for marketing and hype. I am just a little concerned that people are getting overhyped and don't realise it isn't a JVC killer. Bang for buck it may be and people will enjoy their units, but it is still too early to declare the old guard is dead.

    I am not accursing Valerion of doing this but they could have send out goldern samples. The early reviewers in there excitement could have also overlooked issues that become apparant later. There is also a risk that Valerion may have difficulty maintaining quality when they go in to mass production. There could also be issues that develop after an extended use. I am not saying any of these things have or will happen, but this is always inherent risks with any Kickstarter purchase and early adopting new products in general. This is the case even where the firm has a good reputation. Just look at the current reputation of Optima projectors. As you have noted they are still working on getting the iris implementation done so there is still risk that it may not full deliver on what they want. Having said all of this, the kickstarter looks like a reasonable bet and as a minimum they should be expected to largely deliver what they have promised. It is just important not to get over hyped for a product until it is in your hands and there has been some longer term testing.

    Projectors don’t generally require routine servicing. In the case of a laser projector, you might only need to replace an air filter occasionally. However, like any complex piece of technology there is the potential that some kind of issue might pop up like a board component failure or difficulty with one of the few moving parts like the lens servo’s or fans. With a medium to high end products from a major electronics manufacturer, there will be a service process and spare parts to deal with failures. Products from startup outfits are built on a disposable model - If a failure occurs during the warranty period, the unit just gets replaced. Once the warranty is over, you’re probably one failure from it becoming e-waste.

    Update: After preordering I was invited to join a closed preorder facebook group. The AWOL / Valerion staff is actively answering questions there. I.e. that the Vision Master Max is using an enhanced version based on AWOL LTV-3500 pro MEMC. They are very honest there, i.e. that the native contrast is >2k but with EBL (which will hopefully perform and got praised by IFA visitors) perceived as 15000:1 and they are currently still working on the alrithm for the lens shift. Here is one of the many answers in that group: "The transitional lens shift projectors typically have manual adjustments, no motorized control, and lack features like auto projection, with the lens left exposed without extra protection. Valerion is proud to be the first in the home theater field to bring innovations such as motorized lens shift, an external lens protective cover, and an auto projection feature.     Not noticed the projector once during movies and I am in a small room for such a large device. Only sit around 6 or 7ft from the projector. What I would say is I have to have warm 1 on as I see the rainbows pretty badly on every other mode. And right now the colour is a bit off in that mode. They are apparently fixing with the next firmware update.

    I recently moved on from the C2 Ultra (lifestyle) which is incredible by the way to the JVC NZ700 RS2200 because the JVC is the one trick pony I need in my darkened room. Features wise the Hisense delivers a lot more in a mixed lighting environment, and costs far less. It's truly amazing, but I have a darkened room and was never satisfied with the one single reason I own a projector - watching movies. The tech involved in the JVC is 100% focused on that one thing, in a darkened room. One of these days somebody like Hisense is going to come along and compete, but it's easier for them and addresses a much larger market to just keep basing their designs on TI chips that aren't going to deliver the black end of contrast (while of course killing JVC on lumens output). I do find the Max interesting as it has an iris which definitely helps on a native contrast level. Overall though you can see they are relying on software far more heavily than JVC or Sony to still not achieve their depth. The reports of color temperature shifts while EBL does heavy lifting always turned me off. If black levels and shadow detail matter to you a lot (among other things of course, there is a richness to the JVC that you can't just describe on a forum) it seems an easy choice.

    If you want deep blacks due to insane native contrast then JVC should be the obvious choice. I am running an NZ700 on a 1.3 gain matte white 150" screen in a darkened room, 18 feet from lens to screen mounting distance. It has higher lumens than NZ500 but I am achieving SDR 15 fL standard with laser at 74/100 with aperture at -7. HDR wide open the highest it seems to hit in my setup is over 24 fL but I still prefer 74/100 and it pops very nicely without hitting recommended fL standards. I assume that Valerion at 3500 lumens can more easily nail it on the brightness. I moved from a Hisense C2 Ultra and loved that projector except it is really more appropriate for ambient lighting or people who don't care that blacks are charcoal grey. Moving to native 4k is a more cinematic, smooth image. No rainbow effect or laser speckle was another huge plus for me.

    I would strongly recommend investing in a screen. An entry level unit projecting onto a screen will usually outperform a mid tier unit projecting onto an untreated wall. You’ll want a motorized drop down screen with tab tensioning. The tab tensioning is important for avoiding ripples in your screen down the line. Regarding your choice of unit: the Titan noir Kickstarter is currently the best deal in projectors. At $3k it outperforms the Valerion Max, which retails for a couple grand more. I believe that you have until 15 June to order from the Kickstarter. For a less expensive option I’d investigate a secondhand or discounted Valerion Pro2. That unit is also tri-laser and can often be found at a discount as Valerion sent many out to buyers of the Max to use while they waited for the company to finish the Max’s manufacturing. The Max has now been released so there are a number of barely used secondhand Pro2s on the market. If you’re uncomfortable buying secondhand (or can’t find a well priced Pro2) you might also investigate the Nexigo TriVision Ultra, the Xgimi Horizon 20, or the Valerion Streammaster, all of which use laser or hybrid-laser light sources for brightness and gamut that often significantly outperform comparably priced units that use lamp or LED light sources. The Nexigo uses a hybrid laser-LED light source, which is a worse performer than pure laser but avoids the speckling issue inherent to current laser tech to which some users are sensitive. You should also consider whether or not your mount point would benefit from a unit with optical zoom or lens shift. A ceiling mounted projector must mount to your joists (unless you live in an apartment with concrete framing). Depending on where your joists are vis a vis your projection area you might need zoom in order to hit the size at which you’re aiming or lens shift in order to hit your target area with minimal digital keystone, which cuts your resolution if used. Many entry level units lack those features.

    You have the problem right: the Noir Max is better spec’d on paper, though Valerion’s DBE is in a league of its own and does a lot to close the (narrow, all things considered) gap. Whether the IQ improvements are worth the wait and cost vs the (very capable) projector you have now is a question that only you can answer, unfortunately. I use a Valerion Pro2 and personally don’t notice the color/brightness shifting issues that early adaptors wrote up—I suspect they’ve been fixed in firmware, though it’s possible that I’m just not that sensitive to them. Overall the Valerion is the best looking home projector I’ve ever experienced, especially given its sub-$3k price point. Users here are very picky and often have big budgets but you’ll be thrilled with the Max if you decide to keep it. Don’t let forum-induced upgradeitis ruin your enjoyment of this golden age of projectors. There will always be something better around the corner. Personally the wait and cost for the Xgimi weren’t worth it for me—the Valerion already gets bright enough to hurt my eyes and its gamut massively betters my old OLED. If you want to wait and spend on the Xgimi, though, you’ll also enjoy it.

    EBL makes the Valerion though, having bunch of lumens and not good black control is not what many high end enthusiasts look for (hence why everyone chases JVC). It is only superior if DBLE is better than EBL and I have sen nobody say it yet, they all say what you said. Disregarded IMO. When you see Valerion EBL in action you see the power of Valerion Visionmaster. I really want TNM to fix their stuff so we can buy it before KS ends.

    Every image I see of TNM seems uncalbrated. I wish someone did MADVR test with it, the visionmaster max looks like it has better EBL implementation and that's what makes the Valerion the kliler projector IMO. XGIMI is all about lumens but I have not seen anyone say it is better blacks than Valerion.

    So an update. Went for the Wupro and very glad I did. They were able to tailor the drop for me, which was very helpful. Straightforward installation and the remote works great. Drop is also adjustable.     For a large screen and HDR you are going to want as many lumens as you can get. The Valerion is super bright and sharp. The black levels are decent for a DLP projector and the laser light source is incredibly convenient when you’ve lived with bulb based projectors for so long. I have both the Valerion Visionmaster Max and an older JVC RS400. While I still prefer the black levels and the cinematic feel of the JVC image, everything else is just better on the Valerion. I think it has incredible value for the money and it still has 3D. I don’t think you can go wrong with it but I have not seen the other projectors on your list.

    Xgimi titan noir is about to launch their kickstarter. Pretty attractive intro pricing and based on this video, an improvement over the valerion visionmaster max. The black level looks better than even the aetherion max. Finishing my basement and was set on a visionmaster pro 2, but discovered the titan noir and put a deposit on that.     If you're gonna keep the cat, consider ceiling mounting the projector. Most of these lifestyle projectors can be ceiling mounted, even the heavy ones. I have a VisionMaster Max on my ceiling. Hasn't fallen. (Yet). The Lifestyle projectors normally only have a single 1/4" tripod style mounting hole, and those brackets are pretty inexpensive. Traditional rectangular "home theater" projectors have 3 or 4 mounting holes so they'd need a different style of mounting bracket. I used this one for the VisionMaster Max and it works great (supports up to 33 pounds). It's overkill for the N1S, but you may decide to upgrade one day. Most affordable lifestyle projectors have limited zoom range so you'll need the projector at a specific distance in order to get your preferred screen size. Also, it's a good idea to find the ceiling joist (beam) to mount the bracket. While a lighter projector is probably OK with the heavy duty expanding hollow wall/ceiling anchors, screwing the bracket into a wooden joist is much safer and a requirement for a heavier projector. Also, if possible, align the mounting bracket with the center area of where you want your "screen" to appear on the wall. Yes, projectors have keystone to adjust for off-center placement, but this cuts into your screen resolution. Many home theater projectors have vertical and horizontal lens shift to adjust for this but most lifestyle projectors don't (even the Vision Master Max only has vertical lens shift, no horizontal).     The Max is a different level of control over picture. C3 ultra is priced like pro, and the pro2 would be its value range for light output hardware quality. I like the lamp for the smoother less intense light reflecting back. I can view it for longer with less strain. I like the laser for its pin point sharpness likeable colours and its overall doesnt give a fk how well lit the room is. RBE is like you say a DLP thing that's common but laser shows it worse for me. I never really seen it before. And im still waiting to pick a screen. waiting for the samples to show up for now. And a cheap 100' screen one of my friends says I won't need anything else. I think it will be junk somehow. But good screen is huge expense and want to get it right.

    FYI - I reached out to Valerion about the image bowing/distortion when using zoom. This is their email response below. Seems bull to me when they say this is within normal range.... I love the picture but knowing I paid $4k and have to live with this just doesn't sit right with me. I still have about 2 weeks for my 30 day return window. Also my throw range is around 1.3 and can't be moved. Thank you for your reply and for sharing the information. We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by the image distortion. The Max model introduces a lens shift function, and its lens design is more complex than other models. At a throw ratio close to 1.5:1, slight image distortion may occur, which is within the normal range for the projector industry. Please try placing the projector closer to the screen to bring the throw ratio closer to 0.9:1. This should reduce the visibility of distortion. In addition, our software team is currently working on upgrading the manual keystone correction to an 8-point keystone correction, which will allow the distorted areas of the image to be adjusted more precisely. This feature will be added through a future OTA update. Thank you for your understanding We apologize for the inconvenience caused.     Honestly when I watch movies I don't notice it and the picture looks great. It's just annoying knowing that it's the when I paid 4k for it. Does the bowing not distort the entire image and instead just cuts off the screen a little? If it just cuts the screen by that small amount on both sides where I really don't notice then I can live with it. But is it impacting the entire image and making it worse although it hard to perceive?

    Personally I think Valerion projectors look the best design-wise (I like the industrial look) but they are a bit overpriced imo at least the Pro 2 and Max. I still bought the Max for my living room and I’m very happy with it and its iris and EBL produce deeper blacks than I thought they would even on a white wall.

    Okay this would make sense as to why it doesn’t shift in that direction. Would you say I’d be at any disadvantage if I have the projector sitting (right-side up) right at 88” or a little above (since I can lens shift down) in order to optimize screen placement? I’m worried if I aim right for 88” and I’m off even a little I can’t shift the other way without having to keystone. And if I do lens shift a little it should still produce a perfectly rectangular image even though it’s shifted? Assuming I get everything perfectly leveled.

    If the mount can't lower the projector enough to align with the top of the screen within the shift range,you'll likely need either a longer pole or tall stand behind seating. Avoid keystone if you can. Rear walll shelf might be the cleaner solution if the throw distance works.

    I would personally not compare the Valerion with the Sony or JVC. Both the Sony and JVC are NATIVE 4K and have far superior native contrast. You could argue the Valerion has “higher” brightness but to achieve the deep blacks you’ll want in a completely light controlled room, the brightness will sink to 1800-2000 lumens (which is lower/in line with Sony and JVC). The trade off is that you still won’t have the same blacks as the other two. I think many would argue the JVC is the better choice.

    Hey I was considering the Valerion Max for over a year. I decided to do some more research and what's selling me on Aetherion over the max is the gaming segment. I'm not a huge gamer, but I like future proofing my stuff as much as possible. The Valerion maxes at 4k 60 htz and the Aetherion offers 4k at 120 htz. The Aetherion offers both VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (auto low latency mode) while the Valerion just ALLM. The eARC is HDMI 2.1 on the Aetherion. Only 2.0 on the max. This doesn't matter as much for me personally, but for future proofing reasons, the max has 2 hdmi 2.1 ports and 1 2.0. I would rather the Aetherion with all 3 being 2.1.

    >Colors often tinted too green, even when applying different color temperature options This needs clarifying, this is not a defect with the projector, but a problem with your eyes, the Valerion is RGB Laser while the Epson is not, it means the Valerion has a much higher Color gamut, and your eyes can't see the red as well as it should. That's why the image looks green. Personally don't have issues with the remote, you learn the button layout relatively quickly and from there the backlight is useless, only really matters in the first week of use imo. The different colours between the images have less Todo with it being DLP, it comes back to why it looks green to you, cheap filters on shitty cameras (includes TOTL phone cameras) have problems with the immense Color gamut and can't properly capture it. the only cameras I was able to get a somewhat representative image is with >1000€ dedicated full frame cameras.

    I just bought the valerion vision master max and I super pleased with its image quality, and the 3500 lumens it boasts is incredible! Although I’m not familiar with the epson, I would personally vouch for the valerion, since it is a sister company to awol vision. And it’s google tv OS makes it simple to use with any streaming apps. It can basically plug and play. The colors from this photo don’t do it any justice for its actual vibrant colors in person but just look at the way it’s brightness fill my living room! I have nothing to complain about its performance with dark images either.     I do trust the hook up, very informative and exhaustive reviews. Your comment about colour blindness made me think as I too have mild colour blindness. I’ve tried the Valerion Pro and Max models plus the new XGIMI Horizon 20 Max. I couldn’t get on with any of them and have reverted to my older XGIMI Horizon S Max which to my eyes anyway seems to give a better image. The older XGIMI uses dual light rather than laser so that might be the defining factor.

    Sold the Max and stayed with the XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro. Many bugs in the software but the image quality is excellent to me. Perceived contrast without ebl is higher on the XGIMI due to the better lens. Peak brightness was higher (blinding) on the Max but only noticeable on flash scenes.(Spotlights or explosions) Iris on the Valerion did improve contrast but at expense of brightness. I found I never used anything above level 2 (out of 6) anyway.

    That's awesome. Valerion Vision Master Max has a black level feature on their long throw but I was hoping HiSense would come up with something for the L9Q. More and more this is looking like my next projector. I have to do the whole long throw to Ultra Short Throw change to my living room though. Remove the ceiling mount, Run HDMI to the front of the living room instead of the ceiling, etc, etc, etc. It's gonna be quite involved. lol

    The valerion Max is the best overall projector picture for projectors under 10k that you can buy without having to go through the Chinese marketplace (some newer Chinese projectors may compete with but no support for them outside of China yet) Iris 5 or 6 and EBL is unbeatable, EBL is currently the best dynamic dimming algorithm that exists in any projector.

    Hey we're in the same spot. Im coming from an LG C1 Oled. I love that tv, but i was recently gifted a Horizon 20 max and I can say it is truly amazing. The screen size is something you cant just look away from even with the blacks not being oled black levels. Im also in a light controlled room so this isn't a problem for me Horizon 20 Max's motion is amazing. Im glad I got it because of the 1ms input lag and the use of VRR. Valerion max was something i did want because its blacks but I cant justify spending 4k for a projector and another 1k to 2k on a screen. I going to get a motorized 120 inch project from nothing projector.     I have not noticed RBE issues at all. When deciding on the projector, I read that some viewers had this issue with the Pro 2 and we risked it. I have no regrets with this projector, even with the Max coming out (we bought right before the release, knowing it was coming). To be honest, I am 100% positive that my family would not notice the difference. A lot of projector enthusiasts will say the Max is the way to go, but the Pro 2 is just a killer picture! And it leaves more “room” in the budget for the screen, which I feel like is super-important with non-dedicated theater rooms (maybe for all setups?). I cannot say enough about the image quality! If money were no object for us whatsoever, sure we would pick up the Max. We just had to draw our line somewhere and landed on the Pro 2. You also have to consider sound source. I saw a comment about the sound of the Pro 2 and can personally say that I think it sounds great out of the box. Do you want surround sound? Leave room for that upgrade possibly? We will eventually get a 5.1 set up, but no complaints about the current quality. img

    The problem is you can have the increased brightness or increased contrast (over the Pro 2), but not both. Well to an extent. But the more you close the iris to increase contrast, the more brightness you lose. To get twice the contrast of the Pro 2, you would only be getting around 1300 lumens on the Max (because the iris would have to be closed to minimum).

    Review on Youtube. From what I'm seeing there is NO way the Max is worth twice the price of the Xgimi. Maybe the Valerion edges it out in black levels or some small ways, but the visuals I'm seeing on the Xgimi look amazing.     The Valerion is excellent. But has 1600 native contrast and you need to rely on EBL for the rest. Not too much a problem if you don’t use subtitles and are ok with some artéfacts but otherwise, the X1 has 5000 native contrast because it has an iris. On top of it they’re developing an EBL. I would rank them like this: Valerion Max > X1 > Pro 2 > C2

    I feel you. Only learned about the Valerion Max today and simply can't afford it plus wait until May (if not delayed!) doesn't sound great. I am now sort of leaning Valerion Pro 2, especially after reading this detailed technical review. (need to translate from French) https://www.mondoprojos.fr/2024/12/29/test-valerion-visionmaster-pro2/ There were a few benq models discussed in one of the threads above that I am still considering, mainly because of lens shift and better warranty/brand. After all my current purchase is kicked off due to being left with no support by jmgo after only 18months since the kickstarter campaign... But feels like a tough decision since they're not thaaaat much cheaper and missing hdmi 2.1 and a lot of them are still using Led rather than laser and with lower tested contrast.

    I'm in the same boat. Nearly ordered 5050ub on sale, but opted for the Valerion Max (I need the vertical lens shift) My thoughts were, for the similar price, you get an upgrade at nearly every key feature.  I'm bummed I need to wait at least 6 months, but I think it'll be worth the wait.  Also, consider a gray screen if you have light bouncing around the room from the projector. I have a light controlled room as well, but no darkened walls so I'm shopping for gray screens to see if it helps. You can get samples from most screen companies to test them.

    I'm confused by that statement. Some of the most popular projectors for dedicated home theaters - such as Epson and JVC almost all have motorized zoom and lens shift. It's safe to say I have my doubts about this one, I would be surprised if true native contrast is over 1500:1 much less the 4000:1 they are advertising. If it really did have 4000:1 native contrast and 15000:1 dynamic it would good option at $1999 but at $3999 it's getting into JVC and Epson laser territory which neither have RBE that is inherit to the single chip DLP design and will likely have better overall contrast as well as true 4k@120hz in some of the projectors which this one is lacking.

    Yes, these projectors are in a very different market segment with the JVC having a real edge in contrast ratio and therefore black levels. It think it is generally understood that good black levels are critical for good picture quality and the JVC DILA technology produces contrast ratios and therefore better black levels that are 5 to 10 times better than any DLP projector that sells for less than $80K! ANSI contrast is really not meaningful, especially in a room with light colored walls. Intrascene contrast ratios are important, but not the 50:50 black white checkerboard pattern that is use for ANSI. Similar Intrascene contrast measurements with 1 to 5% average picture level are much more meaningful, but again in a room with light colored walls, the room will dominate that measurement. The JVC is clearly the better projector, especially in a dark colored room, but even in a room with light colored walls, the fade to black and very dark scenes will much be better on the JVC. The fact that 3D has been eliminated from the NZ500 is unfortunate, but I really do think that 3D is essentially dead. I have watched 3D on my previous SONY and JVC projectors, but have yet to try it on my JVC NZ800. Although 3D is kind of fun the first few times, I would rather watch a movie in 4K than 3D with glasses.

    Not sure if anyone also mention that the C2 Ultra has a native contrast ratio of 2000:1 vs the 1600:1 of the JmGo N1S Ultimate. I'd rather take 500 lumens less and go with the better contrast ratio. At 3000 lumens, I think that's good enough for the Hisense. The only other one that competes is the upcoming Valerion VisionMaster Max which releases in May 2025 and that has a 4000:1 native contrast ratio with 3000 lumens. They also got the Valerion Pro 2 which releases in December but doesn't have the vertical lens shifting or dynamic iris.

    Valerion is looking to offer a very interesting lineup and is a sister company to AWOL Vision that has proven itself in the last couple of years. But the projectors are pretty different to each other. Are you comparing them based on price or based on your needs? The Epson LS11000 is pretty nice but it lacks the polarizer that turns the 3LCD’s blue-ish blacks to an actual black color. The Valerion is a very interesting package but IRL the projector itself looks ugly to me and even with all the fancy stuff they put in there, a €4000 pricetag for a current gen .47” just doesn’t sit well with me.

    That's a fair point - I do recognize that the Valerion is more in the "lifestyle" product segment, but the appeal of plug and play DV support is certainly tempting. Really my only hesitation is whether there's a way to do some of the LLDV workarounds on the JVC so that I can play that content without having to revert to the base HDR10 layer and the JVC's internal DTM.

    Valerion 100% had their pro2 and now the max and it is an amazing projector with good community support and they push out frequent updates. They are also the only projector that i know of to get 3rd party support for custom lenses. That’s how good it is.

    Unfortunately, I don't think this is a fair representation. You mention the clearly worse-looking projector doesn't actually look like this in real life, but viewers have no way to verify that claim. I'm sure this isn't your intention, but this reads like a hit piece. You're not overly critical of the projector that looks worse in your image, yet you ultimately favor the one that looks better in the comparison. I found it hard to believe the Valerion Visionmaster Max could actually look this poor (and I have no stake in this product), so I looked up reviews myself. A quick check of YouTube videos shows that other reviewers don't encounter this quality issue at all. Again, I don't think you're doing this intentionally, but the comparison is misleading and gives uninformed viewers the wrong impression. If I were making the same comparison, I'd capture both projectors as true to life as possible. Putting them side by side clearly causes issues with your camera's image capture. The fact that you noticed this problem but didn't attempt to correct it is concerning. A fairer approach would be to photograph each projector separately under identical conditions, then present those images side by side.
