r/projectors · Best Projector to Buy in 2026? (Price, Brightness, Resolution) The EF21 is probably worth $500, unlike the cheap Chinese crap we keep telling people not to buy. I have a ViewSonic M2e, a similar mini projector, and it works well in dark rooms at smaller screen sizes. But it’s not going to be anywhere near as bright as the first three projectors the OP mentioned. (The Freestyle is overpriced, and very dim.)

I use the samsung freestyle and it's the best damn portable projector. $350, streams Netflix and everything without extra devices, sound is solid, and it literally fits in a backpack side pocket. The 180 degree stand means you can project anywhere in a small dorm. Best Buy has them in stock across NYC.

Coming from something cheap, the N1S should be close in price to the Freestyle and gives you a real bump in brightness and overall performance and reliability. Yeah, models that cost $3,000 look better. Models like the XGimi Horizon 20 ($1,500) look better. But, at your budget, if it is around the same as what the Freestyle often costs, then the JMGO N1S is a real step up in what you are after. The Hook Up (as mentioned) has videos that cover this, but the N1S won their portable shootout a couple of years ago at $1,000. At half that price it is a real powerhouse of a product.

I'm not a fan of the Samsung Freestyle because of the low brightness and micro-HDMI connection, which is not standard on most consumer products. But, if the price was right, then it's not a bad product.
