r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

So we have this unit in our showroom and I just can’t get over how unsharp the image from this unit looks. Not even in comparison to a JVC NZ500, but even to a BenQ W2720i and Epson LS11000. Epson is considering this to be working as intended but it’s just not looking good. Thought it was a faulty unit at first, but tried another one from a later manufacturing date and it had the same sharpness issue. I just can’t recommend it over the other models in that price range. In the EU, this model is around €5000 btw

r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

I did, but they considered it not out of the ordinary. They did admit that it looked less sharp compared to the QL-series (which is damn sharp) but never admitted that the overall sharpness is subpar. When focussing it always seems like it just can’t get to that perfect focus.

r/projectors · Valerion VisionMaster Max or epson ls11000

The 11000 is not (to me) all that impressive. In point of fact, if you're looking for a $2000 ballpark projector and Epson, you should probably be considering the 5050ub. It's similar to the LS11000 but with a bulb lightsource instead of laser, and it has considerably better contrast and black level capabilities, surprisingly enough. Off the cuff and off hand, the over 7000:1 contrast that The Hook Up measured alone would make me go with the Valerion at this point. You'd have to make sure to install it in such a way as to minimize or eliminate the use of digital keystone but it does at least have a small 1.2 optical zoom that could probably help a lot. I believe Epson and some other old school manufacturers were just run over. They just haven't noticed yet. Another threat to Epson is coming from "above", from JVC. Their entry level is now at similar prices as Epson's QB1000 (the successor to the LS12000)... so the reasons to go Epson are rapidly diminishing if they keep their stated pricing point. But anyway... At $2 grand the Valerion looks like the one to beat imo. $3500 would sting more. Just one guy's opinion obviously.

r/projectors · Help choosing between Valerion or Epson

I have an Epson. I'd buy a Valerion (well, in my case, either a Nexigo or maybe the new AWOL - I like UST's). The Valerion Max can use an anamorphic lens, and there's a company/guy in Canada already designing one and taking pre-orders; Valerion has said that they'll provide anamorphic support in the software to properly stretch the image to get you 2.35:1 Epson's price/performance is just not quite on point. They want stupid money for their stuff, prices that simply aren't warranted (the QB1000 for instance).

    r/projectors · Valerion pro 2 vs Epson QB1000

The QB1000 is a very mildly upgraded LS12000 and frankly the pricing in America is nuts. When you can buy a new JVC with LCoS tech and 40000:1 contrast for the same money as a used QB1000 something's just off. There's also a real possibility (probability...) that the Valerion will kick its ass on picture quality. Downsides of the Valerion is that its' Chinese and made by a sister company of AWOL and AWOL haven't always been great as a company. Personally I'd never buy a QB1000 at the prices they want. It's a fine enough projector but $8 grand retail? I'd like some of what they've been smoking at Epson.

r/projectors · First time buyer; jump from $5k budget to $12k range?

The thing is, you can get 4K and laser now for not a lot of money. The LS12000 is increasingly looking pretty awkwardly placed, and the new QB1000 even more so. The pricing increasingly doesn't warrant it based on performance. Epson's own 5050ub that's bulb fed is $2 grand and basically at the very least trades blows with the LS12000 on performance. But yes, bulb-fed, not laser. Pricing for the QB1000 (the successor to the LS12000) is in the same park as JVC who uses LCoS tech, not 3LCD, which gives them a big edge, along with their new dynamic tonemapping. Frankly, almost everybody would be better off with a JVC. There's also disruptors coming in from below - like the Valerion Visionmaster Pro that's currently on pre-sale at $2000. It's technically a lifestyle projector without cool and useful things like optical lens shift but it could easily be placed in the ceiling and perform very well. Supports all the cool shit too, like Dolby Vision, has really solid measured contrast and the reviews I've seen including from The Hook Up all gush over it. So the day of needing five-figure projectors for great quality may be numbered.

r/projectors · Best projector (movies & gaming) for mixed use room under $3k?

Hey, Captain Paranoid, you were the one listing the expensive brands, like Sony and JVC with their LCoS tech, as good alternatives, pal. They start at $6 grand but are beginning to look like questionable buys there, too. The black level is certainly the best, although again the *really* high contrast numbers start appearing around the $15 grand price point. $6 grand for an entry-level JVC, or $8 grand for an entry-level Epson QB1000 (not remotely worth the money for that IMO, it should be a third of that) just starts looking bad when you can get the Titan Noir Max for $3 grand. So even against an entry-level JVC, you can buy two Noir's and put one on the shelf. Since we're comparing new to new, not finding some old bulb-fed Epson for instance, it's basically impossible to argue with the value for money *and* performance for the money criteria of these kickstartered units. With, yes, the downside potentially being lower quality and worse support, but at some point the price-performance calculation just stops favoring the established brands.

r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

You need the lens shift exactly *once* when you mount the projector. It's a nice to have, and if you absolutely cannot place the projector in an optimal position having a lot of shift on tap is great, but if you can do the work to place the projector right it's nothing more than a minor nice to have feature.

    Montage plafond
r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

At that price point it's frankly a stupid buy. You can get into serious JVC D-ILA models at that range, and even the lowest level model comes with 40000:1 contrast and a black level as dark as space compared to the Epson. I like Epson, and if the QB1000 was like $4 grand, then great. $8 grand? I see no niche whatsoever for it personally... but that's just me.

    Home cinéma (pièce sombre)Qualité-prix
    r/projectors · Epson LS11000 vs others

That's your call, obviously, pick what you think is the best choice for you. Personally if I could have one handed to me for free, the Valerion Max or a QB1000 I'd pick the Valerion 11 times out of 10 at this point. The QB1000 is an LS12000 with slightly better dynamic hdr processing, and they're very similar. Fine projectors (like I said, I have an Epson, not like I dislike the brand or anything) but imo value for money with the QB1000 is absolutely not there. You're just a hair's breadth away from JVC's entry level.

    r/projectors · Epson QB1000 3LCD 4K Laser Projector Review @ ProjectorScreen.com

Epson have had a bunch of those a while now. First (and still relevant with 8000:1 contrast today for a fourth the price of the 1000) the 5050ub which is bulb fed but otherwise almost identical, and then the LS11000 and LS12000 which are lasers. The LS12000 is a very mildly worse variant of the QB1000.

    r/projectors · Epson QB1000 3LCD 4K Laser Projector Review @ ProjectorScreen.com

Intersting review. I'm sure it's a great projector, but the pricing is wack for a unit that's a minimal upgrade on the LS12000. If I weren't so into UST's now I'd rather buy a Valerion Max tbh. And I would, based on that unit alone, dispute that there's nothing comparable in the price range, on paper all the stats of the Visionmaster Max dropkicks the QB1000 into a well, "300" and "this is Sparta!" style.

LS11000 has passable but still quite bad black levels (I own one). LS12000 has better blacks and is brighter. QB1000 has similar blacks as LS12000, but even higher brightness, better motion, dynamic HDR tonemapping and is quieter.

Valerian is DLP based so if you are sensitive to the rainbow effect avoid it. Check out the sub-forum on AVSForum for more details and owner comments. Better to look for an LS12000 than the QB1000 which is overpriced (I got a new LS12k for just under £3k in the UK) If black levels are most important to you then JVC which, even though the LS12k is good when set up correctly the JVC LCoS will beat.

r/projectors · Help me choose between Sony, JVC & Epson please :)

Ok- hear me out… I’ve got the LS12000 - predecessor to the QB1000. With the QB1000 supporting dynamic tone mapping, that’s a nice win for reducing the amount of “fiddling” to get hdr to look right. But… Over the past year, I’ve played the Dolby LLDV tone mapping trick with an HD Fury - and while it works, recognize no projector has nearly the light output for something like a TV HDR experience. I’ve used lots of input devices, played with always on LLDV, followed lots of guides on calibration and settings recommendations. Ultimately I went to SDR for my projector viewing. There are a few reasons. 1) the projector “bonk” between SDR and hdr was long on the Epson. Like almost 10 seconds. That’s painful between start and stop of every movie or stream. It got to where I could pick up on the barely audible click of a relay or something and be like “we’re just 5 seconds away from a picture now!” 2) I use the zidoo z9x for local playback. I’ve told the zidoo my projector doesn’t support hdr. The zidoo engages the Dolby VS10 processing engine and dynamically tone maps ALL content - I let it do everything from SDR to Dolby Vision. It looks extremely good. I think HDR had a VERY slight edge if I tweaked settings for each movie, but without spending time getting the dynamic range right every time, the SDR experience is probably 95% of the very best I could ever achieve with hdr. 3) I use Apple TV for streaming. I’m using it to do tone mapping for hdr content for now. I’m not sure if I will stick with this or revert to LLDV for streaming and just accept the bonk when needed. For now, I’m happy enough with SDR and the immediacy of the playback of eliminating HDR. 4) I use a 158” cinescope screen. I use the lens memory of the Epson for a CIH experience. It has worked extremely well for me. I’ve got 16:9 set for lens 1 and 2.39:1 for lens 2. I LOVE the immersion of cinescope. 5) I feel like my quest of seeing the very best I could get (shy of a madvr) was truly worthwhile for me, and I’m glad I spent the time investigating what was possible. I’m REALLY happy with the CONSISTENCY of the image quality now. My wife or kids can turn on a movie and get the same awesome experience whether I’m there or not. That was a huge win for me. If I were buying today, I’d want to see the JVC next to the Epson. JVC has legendary contrast, but the brightness of the Epson is hard to ignore. When watching sports, I like having some ambient lights on as people are getting up more often. That extra light output makes it a good experience for more viewing scenarios. If you are using for dedicated theater viewing in a dark room all the time? My prejudice of seeing JVC reviews vs owning the Epson would point me to the JVC. Just my $0.02. Does the JVC have lens memory? Good luck!!! Some of the most fun I have in this hobby is evaluating options, reading reviews, exploring little-known features, and THEN enjoying my well-researched purchase. I’m a little jealous of all your options! Have fun!!

r/projectors · Are all the great projectors enormous?

My Epson reps have told me it will work past 20k hrs and it won't dim or diminish in quality as it ages, it will just plum stop working one day in the distant future. There is no repairing or replacing the laser engine, I am told. Time for a brand new model. I have had the 6050 and the ls11000. As soon as I sell my 11000 I will be upgrading to the ql3000. I am salivating over that unit haha. The 6050 and the ls11/12000 are almost identical in size, super close. I would say bulb 6050 was louder than my ls11000. The QB1000 is only slightly better than the 12000. It isn't much brighter than the 12000 but I would contend it does motion scenes better.

r/hometheater · Help me choose between Sony, JVC & Epson projector please :)

I would say the Epson. I have the ls11000, about to upgrade to the QL3000. The QB1000 will give you the lumens you need for your living room. You say you'll mostly watch at night, but I promise, as I have mine in my living room as well with a shit ton of ambient light, you will use it a lot, and a lot more during the day than you'd expect. That Sony is going to struggle in ambient light conditions...the Jvc should as well, but I am not totally familiar with it's lumen specs.

    r/projectors · 1.0 gain vs 1.3 gain?

Long post incoming, TLDR at the end. In my own personal experience - Commercial theaters look pretty 💩compared to nice home cinema projectors (including your NZ500, higher end Sony and Epson models, and certainly including the ultra luxury with Barco and Christie) The 108 nit standard for Dolby Theaters was implemented in 2016- early in the HDR days. Content has come a long way, especially considering how they have tried to push the envelope with HDR effects especially for Sci-Fi blockbusters, hyperrealism (think Mad Max), and even just realistic production styles (Top Gun Maverick, F1, etc) When I “auditioned” projectors at my local CEDIA dealer showroom, we looked at everything at every price point regardless of what my budget was, which meant seeing all sorts of brightness levels. Their showroom was a Stewart Filmscreen 180”, 16x9 with masking panels for scope formats, 1.0 gain, we looked at the following projectors: Sony GTZ380 (10,000 lumens) Barco Heimdall+ (6,000 lumens) They also showed on a 150” screen: JVC NZ900 and Sony Bravia 9 (3300-3400 lumens) JVC NZ800 and Sony Bravia 8 (2700 lumens) , and Epson QL3000 And then Epson QB1000 (3300 lumens), Sony Bravia 7 (2200 lumens) and JVC NZ500 (2000 lumens) Obviously, the higher end price point models were pure picture quality winners far and away - they certainly should be for $80k+ price points In the premium consumer world, while I appreciated the black level of the JVCs and the HDR tone mapping capability of the Sonys, I always found myself going back to “which of these have the most brightness” because it was more visually exciting to me. With SDR content they were all so closely comparable, but HDR it was a massive change in performance. In the end, the Epson QB1000 made the most sense for my space and my budget. I liked the brightness and how it made HDR look on my 135” 16x9 1.3 gain screen. Math wise it’s at about 270 nits on max laser, and I don’t mind running it at 85%. When I went down below 180-200 nits, I wanted to turn the HDR off bc it wasn’t exciting anymore. TL;DR: YMMV, I liked the way HDR looked over 200 nits, theater standards are old and they look underwhelming which is why DCI wants theater to evolve. Not trying to suggest you buy a new projector, but if you can find a dealer to help experience different HDR brightness levels I think it’ll greatly help you pick out the perfect screen (gain and size) for your space

r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

If gaming was your #1 use case, i'm not sure i'd pick up this puppy. BenQ X3100i is often cited as the "best overall" gaming projector, and you're going to save $5k. The BenQ has good brightness vs great brightness on the Epson, but for $5k? Now, if movies if your top use case, there is a bigger argument at play.

r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

3-axis lens shift allows you to precisely adjust the image's position. You may see many comments here where people struggle on dialing in the image, or there is some tweak that they want to make on the image but just can't, well 3-axis lens shift removes those barriers. To me, there are 3 MUST HAVE's in projectors (blacks, fan noise and lens shift). If you have an obstruction or need to mount the projector significantly off-center both vertically and horizontally, this allows for that. Many projectors offer this feature when priced above a certain threshold. It's best to do your research before you buy.

The price tag makes it a bad value propostion. The LS12000 really should have been this projector at that $5k price point. At the $5k price point, the only reason to get the LS12000 would be for the gaming features such as HDMI 2.1 and 4k @ 120hz refresh rate. Other wise get JVC or Sony. QB1000 being nearly $3000 more is a tough sell for me. Is tone mapping and 600 added lumens really worth $3000 more than LS12000 or Sony 5000es or JVC NP5? Considering no native 4k? I guess gaming at a gaming convention?

r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

It's just normal lens shift, but Epson has a lot of lens shift. I'm not sure what the 'third' axis is, as up/down/left/right is normal, but I imagine they include zoom in/out as well. Epson has this on their 4010 model as well for a lot less money, but it won't deliver the image of this model by a mile. Love motorized lens shift and focus, but I don't consider it a big deal in more mid-tier setups which are setup properly.

    r/projectors · Epson Premium Projector Showdown: QB1000 vs LS12000 vs LS11000 vs 5050 vs 6050

Once you are in LS12000 territory for pricing, the LCoS units from JVC and Sony should be in the mix as well. Especially the NZ500 from JVC. The QB1000 is supposed to deliver a significant improvement on the LS12000, which is good to hear and the added brightness certainly can be useful in certain setups. The 6050 and 5050 are basically the same model, so any claimed differences are extremely minor and rarely useful in most setups. I believe the 6050 and 5050 are now doing 3-way pixel shifting instead of just 2-way. So, they are closer to 4K than before, but not quite there. I have no idea what PRO-UHD even means beyond the marketing. Epson is really dodgy about being specific on their pixel shifting. Other than the reality that most reviewers call it out for not being as sharp as DLP pixel shifting nor native 4K from JVC/Sony. Still, it looks good at normal viewing distances.

    r/projectors · Projector purchase help.

How happy have you been with your existing projector? I really struggle with the idea of you swapping a 4K projector for another 4K projector, and going from a LCoS projector to LCD would never be something I'd really consider an upgrade. I mean, when the screen goes black on your Sony, it likely goes REALLY black, which is hard to match on anything short of a JVC. Not sure how much experience others have with the high end models, and I've only seen a few of them, and never side by side. I would try to see the Epson if you can before you buy it to see how it stacks up against your current Sony. Likewise, I'd try to see a JVC. Maybe u/ProjectionHead can provide some additional insight if he has seen both of them, but this is a tough decision. Made tougher by the room you are in.

Here's a nice little review: https://pixelht.com/xgimi-titan-noir-max-early-impressions/ It's also over 4000 lumens calibrated even which will be a big factor for a screen that big.

Yeah, Epson is way overpriced in the US this generation IMO. 4799 GBP is ~6200 USD. I'm not thrilled about that price, but atleast it kinda makes sense in the context of the LS12000 having a $5000 MSRP. But the QB1000 costing $8000 in the US this gen is complete Lala Land. Epson has become completely unrealistic about the performance of their product relative to it's price.

    r/projectors · Epson QB1000 or JVC NZ500 for 180’’ screen

It depends what you want, if you’re in search of better black level, or you’re in search of more brightness (you said your tw9400 is “not enough for the screen size”, not enough what?) . The brightness of the qb1000 is obviously what you will need if you aren’t getting enough brightness. Any hit to black levels is probably something you could get over. Now, If the theater is truly velvet black with a positive gain screen then the JVC may be bright enough with a maximum loud fan noise level and you can build a hushbox for it. But it’s a lot of ifs.  I would recommend the XGIMI Titan noir as another option. It looks like it will have better than qb1000 black levels, better brightness (dynamic), and the 98% bt.2020 color gamut that both the Epson and the JVC lack. All of that for being cheaper at the kickstarter price than either of the other options.

Other projectors, XGIMI, Anker, etc., do not have a cinematic image! Only Epson, JVC, and Sony can play something like that. I have an Epson 9400 and together with the Arcana2, the image is superb. Comparing Titan or whatever they call it with a QB1000, hehe...😆🙂
