r/projectors · BenQ X3100i + VIVIDSTORM ALR Long Throw Obsidian

My one of these screens is due to arrive today and I am excited/nervous how the screen will be. Would love any info you can give about issues with the screen you mention, etc.. I have my projector hanging upside down like yours (BenQ TK705i) but still waiting for the electrician to schedule a visit. But distance/angles wise it should work well. Hope you enjoy it - the picture looks amazing and I am hoping for a similar result with mine.

r/projectors · Help deciding between projectors

Thanks for that - unless I am misunderstanding it - I thought the x3100i was 3300 lumens ANSI vs TK705i which is 3000 lumens ANSI. But x3100i is also 50% more expensive - so if the TK705i can hold its own against it I will definitely choose that and save the difference.

r/projectors · Help deciding between projectors

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too now. Although now I’ve noticed the BenQ X3100i with slightly more ANSI lumens and it seems like better handling of dark scenes, etc. based on what I have read.

r/projectors · Looking for a projector for both gaming and movies/tv. Benq x3100i?

why do you keep recommending the dangbei dbox02?! do you work for dangbei? that's the only reason I see because it's a not terrible projector but there are wayyy better options for a better price it's input lag is terrible and not for gaming and its \~1200 lumens vs \~2000+ of the benq/xgimi, and has WORSE contrast, it's just a straight up worse projector

    r/projectors · Which projector should I buy?

I will say 90-92" screen is pretty small and if at all possibly go for a TV, however if you still want a projector i'd go either x3100i or x500i(short throw) so all depends where you're going to place it here's a nice calculator for that [https://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm](https://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm)

r/projectors · Looking for a projector for both gaming and movies/tv. Benq x3100i?

yeah its a solid pick, the other choice is probably the xgimi horizon 20, "the hook up" on youtube has measured both of their brightness/contrast/input lag on separate videos do NOT get the dangbei dbox02, the brightness and contrast and even input lag are WAY worse lol, both the dbox02 and mp1 from dangbei were the only 2 bad ones that measure \~34ms vs the rest that were \~17ms

    r/projectors · BenQ X3100i vs Valerion VisionMasterPro 2

I personally own the BenQ X3000i which is the predecessor to the X3100i. The most meaningful difference between the X3000i and the X3100i is lens shift. I've been very happy with the X3000i. If you are quoting in USD, those BenQ numbers sound sky high. It's about $2,600 Canadian here which is about $1,900 USD. Even that could be at the high end, but it may be inflation, tariffs, etc. If you could get your hands on a BenQ X3000i and are comfortable with fancy mounting footwork, that could save you even more money. On the other hand. If indeed these are the best prices you can get for both products, the Valerion VisionMasterPro 2 could be the wiser choice. I've never seen one up close; I"m going by available product reviews and specs. Use this tool to calculate your room size and the necessary distance from the screen for your projector choice and screen: [https://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm](https://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm) The immediate benefits over the BenQ X3100i are Dolby Vision and HDR10+ compatibility. It is also supposed to be more colorful. Gaming experiences may be a wash between them. The BenQ X3100i is about a third brighter, but with brightness comes the tradeoff of shallower blacks (but you will enjoy the experience all the same - especially in gaming). If the pricing is firm, I say go Valerion. If the rates could be significantly less for the BenQ X3100i, I think your son will be very happy with either model depending on what you are happy to spend! :-)

r/projectors · BenQ X3000i and X3100i May Have Better Black Levels Than Realized

Rob?  He's a liar and a cheater!  I'm kidding - I don't yet know Rob. :-) I've been doing more testing.  With all the attention placed on the black ceilings, I didn't consider the reflections from the floor.  I laid down a grey area rug - it might have helped further. I did the impossible today.  In my projected image, the left and right sides are flush against the velvet part of the screen.  However, the top and bottom parts have a good one to two inch margin of screen material between the projected image and the top and bottom edges of the screen.  When I projected a pure black image, the margin (where there shouldn't be a projected image at all) and the black image (what the projected area was showing) were the same dark grey.  In fact, when I put my hand on top of the margin (where the projector shouldn't be touching at all), I could cast a shadow. This tells me that there is still extraneous light that is somehow being reflected back to the screen.  When the lights are out and the projector is off, the screen is a perfect black (this is in a basement). This may be the best I can do.  The only thing I could think of is to put some stick-on black velvet on some of the ceiling tiles - but I feel doubtful that would make a meaningful difference.  It seems to be a good black level all the same. For me, the BenQ X3000i is a great projector.  I read the X3100i has comparable visual results with the benefit of vertical lens shift (which is for sure worth it).  My previous projector was a Panasonic AE7000 which was a hard target to beat.

r/projectors · BenQ X3000i and X3100i May Have Better Black Levels Than Realized

u/Bellmeister, when I first read your remarks, my thought was your writing style and humor is much like my own.  If we ever met in person, I bet the galaxy would fold in on itself. :-) A few observations.  First, you are correct about zooming in and out and the actual brightness.  I wasn't thinking in terms of how much light was being blasted at a fixed area.  I was thinking about how when the image expands across the screen (i.e. as it grows), there is more surface area that is adding to what is being reflecting off the screen and the walls contributing to a more elevated black level. Still, remembering that the smaller focused image is brighter, the projection black level shown in my pics is impressive, yes? The question is what more can I do to maintain that when the image is full size? You are also correct about the lumen count.  In practice, it's probably closer to half that amount in the projector modes I use.  I was just speaking to the general marketed spec of the projector. I also agree that the brighter the image, the harder it is to show a deep black level.  I suspect that those complaining about BenQ X3000i / 3100i black levels may not be taking into account that it's a very bright projector compared to other units that aren't as bright to begin with - so it's not exactly fair. I did try a grey screen, and I ended up returning it.  It was helpful with deepening the black level, but it also required me to increase the lamp power to compensate for everything else (no eco modes).  The screen fabric was lousy (side issue) - so I had to return it anyway.  HOWEVER,  it gave me the eureka moment to paint my walls black and go back to my white screen without the brightness tradeoffs - well worth it. Lowering the brightness setting on my projector is not such a good idea.  It has a limited floor before you start losing a lot of details.  The good news is the image is indeed very good at default; I'm not worried about that.  The point I'm trying to say is that the projector's actual black level could probably be even better than what people are contending with if the room could be even more light controlled. I too keep my bass and tone levels to 0 in my audio setups.  I think the reason they were included is because speakers of varying quality handle the neutral point differently.  Years ago, I saw a video about a science project that used computer analysis and equalizers to take relatively cheap headphones and get them to perform closer to more expensive ones with success.  So, the equalizers have merit if you know how to use them.  For me, it's too much trouble.

    r/projectors · Disappointed with BenQ X3100i purchase.

I would get that sent in for warranty repair for sure. I have the BenQ X3000i and I too thought the black level was a bit elevated compared to my Panasonic AE-7000 (about 10 years old). However, the X3000i is much brighter than the Panasonic and the X3100i is a little brighter still. With this in mind, it makes sense that the black level would be a little higher too. Content is also a deciding factor. Are you watching streamed materials? Try 4K Bluray or running Youtube HDR on your PC. I think the experience will be a lot more striking for you.

r/projectors · BenQ X3100i power on/picture time and other questions for existing owners

I own the x3000i which is the predecessor. It should closely match my experience: 1. Power cycle is maybe 10 seconds with little to no warmup time needed. Shut off is equally fast. 2. You don't need to worry about how often you turn projector on/off because of led light source. In comparison, projector bulbs get worn by power cycling. 3. I've been happy with low fan noise. The x3100i is supposed to be even quieter. 4. I don't know about the brightness comparable. I know the x3000i is regularly touted for being exceptionally bright. So far, so good over here.

r/projectors · What is the actual differences between Benq ht4550i and Benq x3100i?

I went through the same choice when I bought my X3100i. I chose the X3100i because it seems that the main difference is the x3100i optimizes to lower latency and is cheaper while the ht4550i optimizes for a bit sharper picture. The X3100i works great for your use-case as that is mine as well :) haven’t had any issues and definitely recommend

    r/projectors · Best bang for buck 4k projector over 3000lm, 120" at 12'?

In an untreated living room contrast will be less important than brightness and color saturation. The LEDs will give some nice pop to the image just have your expectations in check about the black levels. Check out these two reviews as they might give you a better idea. https://youtu.be/biXPgm-pxiU?si=u2iR0rOsnLb42cxz https://youtu.be/k9jJrHDZuA4?si=xywFfWwbIZFs8MYp They don’t compare them directly and the Tk710 he reviews is the ST variant but still some good data here. Overall they are both insanely bright projectors. The X3100i is a larger unit and has a significantly wider color gamut / better color volume but somewhat poor black levels. The Tk710 is around half the size, color is limited to rec709, but it has a better contrast ratio and with dynamic contrast engaged the blacks should be respectable. One more thing to consider is that the X3100i comes equipped with BenQ’s HDR-Pro tone mapping. That’s more than a simple branding excercise— I’ve found the HDR-Pro models to have a pretty significant advantage in HDR image quality and this seems to be backed up in the video. My biggest issue with the X3100i is its proximity in price to the Ht4550i which, reliability concerns aside, is probably the best projector BenQ makes and one of the best DLP projectors out there.

    r/projectors · Best bang for buck 4k projector over 3000lm, 120" at 12'?

I think the BenQ TK710 (not the older 700 series) is probably your best choice. The Epson 3800 would be a good alternative if you need more lens shift and don’t mind a lamp and softer image. The BenQ X3100i comes highly recommended. I reviewed the prior X3000i a few years back. It’s a great projector and the only one of these three that will give you some extra color gamut support for HDR. I really like the 4LED light engine for its vibrant colors. However it IS a bit pricier and I’m afraid the contrast isn’t as good as the two above. Fine for big screen gaming but maybe a bit less satisfying while watching movies.

    r/projectors · <2000€ 4k/1080p Projector for non-optimal Home Cinema

It kills me BenQ never released a standard throw version of the x500i. That model has better contrast/blacks than the vast majority of DLPs outside some of the new triple laser USTs (for whatever reason USTs perform well above their more conventional siblings in this area). I feel your pain. Am anxiously awaiting the W2720i to see what BenQ has done with it but I have concerns about the move back to .47” from .65” especially with their 4LED light engine. All their models so far have used the .65 to good effect. It feels a bit like the availability of affordable 98/100” flat panels has killed the middle market of home theater projectors. The X3000/X3100i (I reviewed the 3000 way back) are very bright, decent contrast— at the time I reviewed the 3000i I remarked on it’s contrast but that was when the average lamp based RGBW 4k DLP was doing around 1000:1 with poor color and around half that with accurate color. The 1200:1 of the X3000i combined with its insane lumen output was a revelation. Then came along the HT2060/TH690ST. (Another model I reviewed— you can find over at AVS) Both 1080p models. Both significantly dimmer than the X3000/3100. But both with WAY better contrast/blacks. I measured the HT2060 over 1900:1 depending on picture mode. I’m still using an HT2060 in my basement home theater and prefer it for PS5 games. The contrast is simply better than everything below the UB Epsons. Despite the ability to accept 4K/HDR I run the 2060 as an Hd/rec709 unit. Then BenQ dropped the Ht4550i. Reliability issues aside this is still my favorite DLP that has ever been released. I wept quietly when mine bit the dust a couple months ago. Contrast was closer to the X3000i (around 1300:1) but a variety of picture enhancements including the first usable application of their smarteco dimming feature, a clever ‘local contrast’ enhancer and hands down the best HDR tone mapping I’ve seen this side of a JVC— stellar projector. For Bluray I would still pick the HT2060 for it’s deeper blacks but for all things 4K it was simply the best I’ve seen at it’s price and you get even more output than the X3000– huge screens welcome. I never reviewed the X500i but every article I read seems to indicate it pairs the contrast/blacks of the HT2060/TH690ST with the HDR tone mapping of the 4550i. That’s a winner in my book. But apparently not in BenQ’s— they swapped the X label on it, equipped it with a Short throw lens and sold it as a gaming projector. Remember how I said large TVs were killing mid range home theater projectors? The X500i as well as the Viewsonic X series models are my chalk outline. These SHOULD have longer lenses and SHOULD be sold as bargain HT models with premium performance. But the manufacturers felt the need to slap the ‘gamer’ label on them. No faith to seek them to the HT crowd who, they must assume, have either moved WAY up market or have given up and bought a large flat panel. Pisses me off. I want a solid state 4K projector with good contrast, good HDR tone mapping and a little bit of flexibility in the lens (1.3X zoom and a 10% vertical lens shift is perfect). I don’t need a ton of lumens as I have a blacked out room. I want to pay around $2K. The X500i would be perfect with a different lens. I love love love love the 4550i but it’s $3000 and overkill for my 100” screen. The X3100i is nice— but I want better contrast/blacks. Epson has abandoned this price category and is still hawking the aging lamp based 3800 and the hilariously old 4010. Optoma has nothing in the range. Sony algae abandoned the mid/low price tiers. JVC was never there. It sucks. It really does feel I’m being pushed to buy a big Tv. And then there’s the w2720i. Super curious on this one as it might determine my next display purchase and if I abandon front projection in the cinema.

Good point. You're right that the X3100i is rated slightly brighter on paper. I was thinking more about the overall use case than the lumen rating itself. Given the 50% price difference, I'd want to be sure the extra image quality is something you'd actually notice in your room before spending the extra money.

r/projectors · Help deciding between projectors

The X3100i seems stronger for gaming and overall image quality, but for a bright living room setup with a 120" ALR screen, I'd still lean TK705. The extra brightness tends to be more noticeable day-to-day than slightly better dark-scene performance.

    r/projectors · BenQ X3100i vs BenQ W2720i

Unless movies are going to be your main use, I'd probably keep the X3100i. It's still a great all-around projector. If you're mainly noticing dark scenes, it might be worth checking your HDR or picture settings first.

    r/projectors · Viewsonic LX700 Or Benq x3100i?

If gaming is the main priority, the X3100i is hard to overlook. Both are solid options, but the X3100i has a particularly strong reputation for low input lag, gaming features, and overall image quality. It also tends to get recommended frequently as an all-around projector for gaming, movies, and TV. With a dark room and similar pricing, the X3100i would probably get the edge.

r/projectors · Need help deciding between Benq x500i and x300g

People often say that laser or LED DLP projectors can't have RBE because they are flat out uninformed. It's that simple. Single chip DLP projectors have RBE due to the sequential presentation of colors. Red, green, then blue. So, they can have RBE whether LED, laser, or a traditional lamp. It doesn't matter. Only 3-chip DLP projectors won't have any RBE issues in the world of DLP. This is what movie theaters typically are using. Anyway, I would either get the X500i or the TK710. That's where my feelings lie with BenQ at the moment. I do think the X3100i should be a consideration, but not if you are fine with the x500i.

    r/projectors · BenQ X3100i vs BenQ W2720i

The x3100i is a good projector, but it doesn't have the shadow details and black levels of competing products. Including their own. The 2720i, would maybe be a bit better. The w4100i would be a better choice. There are other choices as well which would be better overall. Still, I wouldn't sweat it and you should try calibration if you can do so. Adjusting brightness, contrast, and gamma can make a big difference in your on-screen quality. As well, as I'm sure you know, a completely dark room is critical to best results.

Keep in mind 1440p is a common monitor resolution, but no projector is 1440p on the consumer market. They are 4K through pixel shifting (or JVC/Sony native) of 1080p panels. So, your best results generally will come from a 1080p input. Especially at 120hz or 240hz. Those will give you the lowest lag times in the world and DLP is absolute king when it comes to this. 1440p may give you slightly better resolution, but will not give you faster pixel response time, which has been proven to be the king of importance when it comes to competitive gaming. This is also, generally, why 1440p is not lag tested on most projectors and why most projectors don't support that resolution. There are definitely some projectors advertised for gaming use which absolutely support an input resolution of 1440p, but then it must be scaled to 4K/60 or dropped down to 1080p/120hz. This is an added scaling step which may add some lag to the overall performance. This is all just stuff to be aware of. The X3100i is a beast as is the Valerion Pro 2. The C2 Ultra is also a beast in this class. I think when you are talking fastest response time, the X3100i is the best in class with 4.2ms advertised, and 5ms confirmed at 1080p/240 input. That's about as fast as DLP allows for at this point. It is up to you to do the chasing on 1440p as a resolution. You won't get those response times from LCD, for darn sure. Simple as that. LCoS (JVC/Sony) can often fall somewhere between, but can come close to DLP speed. Lots more $$$ for LCoS. Good questions really, and this is going to be a personal question at the end of the day. Especially with regards to how much RBE impacts and bothers you. It varies from projector to projector, so do keep that in mind.

r/projectors · Need suggestion for buying projector.

The 3000 and 3100 are very similar overall. The placement of the two models is a fair bit different as the 3000 doesn't have any lens shift and is more limited in how it can be placed. For optimal gaming results, you really can't use any keystone correction at all, so plan for exact placement on either model. The open box does seem like a good deal and both models use the larger .65" DLP chip which is a really good thing IMO. The TK710 is worth considering as well. At this time I don't think there has been any real head to head between the TK710 and the X3100i so I'm super anxious to see how those compare to each other. Frankly, I think both are really solid choices.

    r/projectors · Best black friday deal for 4k gaming? (lx700 vs tk700 vs x3100i?)

I bought x3100i last black Friday and have loved it. The vertical lens shift makes dialing in your picture very easy. I game on it almost every night. The colors are awesome and the image is very bright. Blacks aren't the strongest, not a surprise, but I have an alr grey screen to help add some contrast. Customer support is awesome, and they helped me figure out how to get 3d working for my setup. I play racing, fps, and rpg's all look great and has very low latency at 60fps 4k. As far as fitment, their site along with projector central can give you the specs on mounting position and screen size. The zoom function also helps adjust image size a bit which can come in handy if you're within it's margin.

Hi there, thanks for sharing the photo. If HDR looks washed out on PS5, it’s often related to the PS5 HDR calibration settings rather than the projector itself. We’d recommend re-running the PS5 HDR setup. r/projectors · BenQ X3100i or TK710STi

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply. I did not mean to say that information is wrong, just showing another source for comparison ... apologies if I sounded rude, that was not my intention. I wonder whether the lower contrast in the x3100i is because of the brighter black floor. Also, looking at the curve on rtings, the contrast ratio is significantly lower on very dark scenes, and almost identical in more balanced scenes, so In practice I wonder how much of a difference that makes when watching movies. Do you think the choice should be based on amount light control and screen size? Another question, because I’m also kind of torn between these models: do you think the 4led source in the x models has big benefits compared to the single laser of the tk models (less artifacts / wider color gamut) or do you think the contrast would be the more decisive factor?

    r/projectors · BenQ tk710sti vs x3100i

Hello, I got the x3100i. I am happy with it. I never got to compare side by side so I don’t know if the 710sti is better. I use it in a room that has lots of light leaks, I paired it with an AGS 128” screen from silver ticket. It works really nice.

    r/projectors · BenQ tk710sti vs x3100i

Danke schön :) Btw about the brightness discussion, BenQ recommends to get the brighter model in the conditions I'll have. [Why Does Brightness or Lumens Matter for Projectors? How Many Lumens Do You Need? | BenQ US](https://www.benq.com/en-us/knowledge-center/knowledge/projector-brightness-lumens.html#:~:text=If%20you%20plan%20to%20watch,more%20will%20display%20clear%20images.) I'm sure that I can make this work with the x500i, no doubt. However, my living room is bright. Especially during summer, living up north, there will be natural light spill until late. The other thing is that our living room is a big L shaped open space. While we can isolate the TV / gaming area of the living room (the short side of the L) from the other side with a blackout curtain, one of the things we enjoy is letting light enter the house and have the curtains open between the 2 sides so we all share the same space doing different things. I also like the idea of playing video game with natural light in the house, so that's kind of my decision process there. Maybe you're right and it's still overkill. What I'll do is buy one / try it out in these conditions, to see for myself. It is hard to know how this will go. BTW you also recommended in another post to get a TV ... I actually prefer a projector, because my plan is to bring it with me in vacation, or move it to other rooms from time to time.

Thanks for the reply :) Even with lights in the room or using HDR mode? I didn’t want to be fiddling all the time with shades because of less brightness, and I’m afraid that if I get the x500i I will regret not getting the x3100i.

brother, you doesn't have to even ask that. Valerion all the way. benq 3100i is a good projector, but it can't even compare to the valerion vision master pro 2 picture quality. I mean you are comparing a triple laser projector vs a 4led projector... two different tecnologies where triple laser is A LOT BETTER than 4led, the thing is that people usually dislike the "digital" look that triple laser projectors have, and with digital I say the way that it looks more like a TV (perfect) and less than a old cinema projector. this a a perfect case of buying something for nostalgia (benq 3100i) vs something with clearly a lot more performance (valerion vision master pro2) You can see the videos of a youtuber well know is this subreddit that actually makes a very professional comparison between those projectors (and fyi the benq x3100i is not even in the top 10 of 2025/2024 where the valerion is still top1) The YouTube is called "TheHookUp"

Also I would say if you plan to watch movies yourself, it might be ok. I def can watch with lights halfway, it’s quite washed out but if I need to see something I’m doing I just deal with it. Your comment about it might be a bad move if not good contrast is what makes it a unicorn. If she has the eyes to comment on contrast I don’t think anyone would look at a projector setup with lights on and not see obvious washing out. If she’s not the type, you might be fine and then can watch in the dark yourself and get the full effect. Totally get it though, from what I’ve seen I think you need to jump from 3k to 10k to get major brightness and contrast improvements and not sure if it’s enough to negate ambient light.

I am looking for the same projectors as you and x3100i is my top 1 for now because I need lens shift and it has ton of it - because keystone always introduce additional input lag, and quality of image degrades. I have found w2720i yesterday and it also catched my eye, it's a bit dimmer than x3100i but 400€ cheaper, better contrast and has more cinema modes - it would be easier if there was more youtube comparisons.

I have also watched that video before making the decision. Honestly I have not used other projector in my room so I cannot compare. But, if the room is dark ( or reasonably dark in daylight - my room leaks little bit of light at the edges of the glass wall) , I found the contrast is very very good. I am rewatching GOT TV shows now, I can confirm the black level is on point. I previously watched this on a Sony Bravia 65” OLED TV. I personally couldn’t spot any difference - honestly I was not looking for anything to nick pick either - I was enjoying the same show I love on a 150” screen !! Currently replaying Witcher 3 Complete edition on PS5 pro - I felt the same when I entered the cave for example. Dark is dark and the focus area is lit beautifully when I use a torch. PS: if light falls directly onto wall/screen , even if it’s little bit of light , the image gets washed out - this is not my case but thought to mention it if it benefits others.

r/projectors · BenQ X3000i and X3100i May Have Better Black Levels Than Realized

First of all...its not getting brighter as you pull back. Its getting dimmer. Zoom is included in that. It's like when you zoom in on a flashlight. The smaller the light, the brighter it gets. So, BenQ and Epson have ruled the land for the masses for many years with projectors. Over the decades theyve listened to the consumer and brightness has been king. I think that was our mistake but, another conversation. You said they are 3,000 + lumen projectors. Thats a shtload of brightness. And...its false. Correct me if Im wrong but isnt it the case that while theyll get super bright, no one uses them on their brightest setting? I know Ive read with several models that was the case. Like...unusable setting its so bright. But I know, even on the lower setting its still nice and bright. Therin lies the issue with the blacks. The more light youre shining at the screen, the harder it is for blacks to be black. Plus....what color is your screen? You said raw white correct? Well? How can the absense of light on white ever be black? Thats why they came out with grey screens. With grey you achieve better blacks...better contrast. They make blacks screens too. What you have is...whites have most vibrant color. Grey has the better blacks and contrast but you give up some color pop (unnoticeable to many). Black screens have even better blacks and contrast but color suffers even more. Light conditions come into play. But hey. Try something. Reprogram your brain. Turn your brightness down a good bit. See what you see. Colors should pop more. Appear fuller. You should notice more separation. My point is, these arent tvs with the guts right behind the screen. Theyre projecting a huge image 10 feet away. Theres a brightness trade off for size. Turning your brightness down should improve the blacks too.

I'm referring you to the ultimate guru of projector testing. He runs The Hook Up channel. you may have seen him. Just so happens hes active on AVS forum and he replies very regularly to people. And it looks like he replied to someone on there one hour ago. Here. Good luck to you. Seems few people know his name. So, seems youre onto something exciting cos I have to admit your pics are surprisingly good. Its no surprise I came into this subreddit a year ago seemingly the only guy who wasnt a fan of Epson and BenQ. And my comment karma barely survived. If the "Cheap Chinese Junk" brands I was promoting early on hadnt came up big with the innovation and quality I probably woulda been killed off long ago. And I gotta tell ya, I'm not sure which one you have...but I looked into the X3000i a lot what was it...I guess a year or more ago. And its the only model of theirs Ive ever recommended. For gamers they really hit it out of the park. And if I remember there wasnt much to complain about. Was the X3100i a worthy follow up? Or did they blow it more or less? Wont be surprised if its the latter.

X3000i owner- I wouldn’t bother with the x3100i if you have to put it in the corner and use keystone. This projector is purpose built for low latency gaming but using any keystone disables this core feature so I’d probably cross this off your list given the use case. Your budget is pretty high to the point I would look at some higher end models on sale or refurbished. They will have lens shift that allows for flexible placement without the compromise of keystoning. And as a plus they will almost certainly have better contrast. Epson 5050 (downside of bulb) or ls11000 (laser w/downside of needing to wait for refurb stock and still being a little above budget) both have been around the 2500 price at various points. If you don’t really care about the above stuff the c2 seems pretty easy to place and has auto keystone. Not this sub’s cup of tea but sometimes you just want something that works and doesn’t require you to rearrange your room just to watch something.

Literally my 2 shortlisted projectors too. My choice is simpler because I want the very short throw the tk710sti gives. Also helps that it is a little cheaper than the x3100i and smaller thus easier to mount or move about. I've seen some opinions that 4led gives better color than single laser, and it does seem so on some reviews that color accuracy is not the strongest suite of the tk710sti. There is a really good video that shows tk710sti against x500i. Good luck with your choice, I'm holding out for a good sale hopefully soon before I get one.

The BenQ X3100i is honestly one of the safest picks if you want a good balance between PS5 gaming and movie watching. It has low input lag for gaming, solid brightness, and good overall image quality, so you’re definitely looking in the right direction. If you’re open to alternatives, the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is also worth checking out because it handles movies really well while still being good for casual gaming. Buying used can be fine too, just make sure to check laser/lamp hours, dead pixels, dust blobs, and whether there’s any warranty left.

The BenQ X3100i is a darn fast projector. It gives you a long-life 4LED light source instead of a lamp, better color and HDR handling, lens shift, nicer speakers, and built-in Android TV. It definitely comes highly recommended.

r/projectors · The usual request for help choosing a projector :)

Totally fair! In your case then I’d pivot to solid-state DLP under €2,000 and manage expectations on black levels. From your list, the BenQ X3100i is the safest all-rounder: bright, with low input lag, decent color, and it's pretty bright, but contrast won’t match your old TW7300 in a dark room (although the BenQ's contrast is still pretty good). The only possible issue is RBE; it's super subjective and it varies from person to person, so it's hard to say, especially as you don't know if you're sensitive to it or not.

r/projectors · The usual request for help choosing a projector :)

Hi! Given your priorities, I’d stick with 3LCD for the safest blacks and no rainbow risk; something like the Epson EH-TW9400/5050UB on the used (or new) market is a clean upgrade for you. It has great lens shift to hit your existing mount, noticeably better contrast than your TW7300, and still plenty of brightness. If that’s too pricey, you could downscale to the EH-TW7100/3800; its blacks aren't as good as the 5050UB but still a solid all-rounder. The BenQ DLPs you listed can fit and are fine, but they won’t match Epson’s dark-room capabilities and you might notice some RBE. The BenQ X3100i is a top pick for gaming, but the RBE is noticeable on it for people who are sensitive to it.

I honestly thought I was going to run it at 2k 120hz, or 1080p 240hz before I bought it, but I was super happy how the latency felt at 4k 60hz. And 4k looks superior on it. I used to play a lot of fps on my 240hz monitors You know always practicing my flick shots with super slow lose speed etc. And it always sucked for me having to play something that is latency relevant on a slow screen. I don't seem to have any issue with the BenQ in 4k. But I have to state that I play more games like platformers on it as couch gaming is different for me as I play with the controller and have a different taste with it.

I am latency sensitive and have the x3100i. I run it exclusivity in 4k and it runs hours per day for gaming and media station. I bought it the day it came out. I recommend getting a some grey screen (bulld one my self) to improve the contrast & blacks. When you hook it up, also hook up a long USB cable so you can push updates & profiles without fiddling around. Others here might have other projector recommendations, as new stuff came out. Optoma here is often not recommended due to quality issues, but I don't know the specifics and what chips are mostly affected.

No worries I didn’t read it that way at all! I also hope I didn’t come off as rude or condescending. I’m in the same boat as these are my top 3 choices but a projector isn’t actually in my budget this year. If I were to pull the trigger on it this year I suppose my rubric for deciding in order would be (1) picture quality/contrast (2) screen size/throw distance (3) amount of light control in room/brightness necessary (4) cost and (5) gaming capabilities. For me my #1 priority is picture quality so I feel like I’d chose either the x500i or 710sti because they have much better contrast. Not only that but the short throw distance would be better for my particular installation case, both combined make the x3100i less appealing because I don’t think I care about 1440p at the expense of picture quality and installation ease. It’s possible that because of the “ceiling” of the 3100i is brighter the blacks are less dark, but I’m not sure that’s true because the 710sti also has about 3000 lumens but has higher contrast. So between x500i and 710sti it would purely come down to cost and whether I feel I could setup my room to be dark enough for the x500i. In a basement room painted black and setup as a home theater, may as well save the money and get the x500i because it will look great. For me, I’m setting up in a loft apartment living room, I have very big windows. There’s blackout shades so I can make it dark but because my apt is one big open space I do everything in, ambient lights will be on often. THAT makes the extra brightness probably worth the extra money, so I think I’d go with the tk710sti. As far as tech goes, at the end of the day I’d pick whatever looks better to my eyes, i don’t know how I would be able to look at both and I’m not sure which tech is better. Maybe the 4led has wider color gamut but I think it also is susceptible to the rainbow effect on whites? I’m not sure. It’s totally subjective but my intuition is the laser is maybe more cinematic looking and I’d probably like that more.

Doesn’t seem far fetched, in a light controlled room the brightness isn’t a big deal. Many much higher end projectors are also about 2000 lumens. This guy who made the video seemed to do some pretty decent testing and I’m referring to dynamic dimming enabled in regards to double the contrast, although natively it is also nearly double but not quite. In his testing of native contrast the x500i measured 1548:1 and the x3100i measured 897:1 With dynamic dimming enabled on both projectors he measured 3069:1 on the x500i and 1530:1 on the x3100i Here’s the link to the video https://youtu.be/biXPgm-pxiU?si=W6gwy7Ttjflqmyk5

From the video above comparing the tk710sti to the x500i, the contrast was better with the 710sti. In another video from the same channel (“the hook up”) comparing the 3100i and the 500i, the 500i had *twice* as much contrast as the 3000i, and actually had better picture quality despite having lower brightness. So basically, the only thing the x3100i has on both of those models is 1440p 120hz resolution, which neither the x500i or 710sti have. The only reason to get the x3100i is if you really really care about gaming 1440p 120hz. If you can live with 1080p 244 and 4k 60 then both the x500i and tk700sti are better choices I think. The 500 is more color accurate and the 700 is much brighter and I think overall better than the 500. What did you go with anyway?

    r/BenQ · Hulu not working - X3100i QS02

I ended up sending the projector for repair, I believe they did some software update and now its working great, even though lately I'm using mostly my Roku because their dongle is laggy, but anyway I wanted to have it working.

Thanks for this. I am upgrading an old projector that is already ceiling mounted too far from the wall for a short throw so the x500i is out. Most local suppliers actually sell the viewsonic x1-4K for more than the benq x3100i for some reason.

Screen size would be 100-120”. Movies/sport and maybe some gaming. Spec wise they all seem pretty similar to me, there’s quite a large step up in price from the viewsonic to the benq though. Budget ideally was less than the x3100i but if it’s worth the extra money I’d maybe reconsider. Not in Europe
