r/projectors · best affordable projector for bedroom wall? →2026-03-14T11:50:29

For a bedroom wall under $300, look for a projector with decent brightness and 1080p support, and avoid super cheap no-name models. Dangbei’s Dangbei Atom is compact, easy to set up, and offers good picture quality for everyday movie watching without breaking the bank.

For a dorm, a lightweight portable projector is ideal. Dangbei’s Dangbei Atom is compact, easy to set up, and works well in small rooms. Aim for decent brightness and 1080p quality, and avoid super cheap no-name models for better reliability and movie nights.

Hello. I bought a Dangbei Atom second hand two months ago for 300€. It has worked great but two days ago the speaker stopped to work. I don't know why because one night it was working and the day after it didn't sound. I have tried everything, including a factory reset. But it hasnt worked. Now I'm using a pair of bluetooth speakers but i would like to use sometimes tbe internal speaker (that i think it's quite good for such a small projector. Any suggestion? Do you know how to solve this problem?

ik vond hem zelf redelijk bright tho, savond's heb ik hem op 1 staan omdat ik het anders te vel vindt. Enige na deel is dat soms de ventilator willekeurig aan gaat snachts, en dat de speaker die er in zit beetje zacht is.

Everything I watch on my Dangbei Atom is pretty smooth, even after using keystone from one side of my bed (throw image to ceiling above). But one major disappointment has been basketball. I tried ESPN+ and MAX to watch March Madness, and the shuttering is insane. I can't see passes and shots because the frames are skipped over. Sometimes there are commercials and those are fine amd smooth, but then the sports action is choppy again. Any ideas on solving this issue?

I love my Dangbei Atom, so much better than the other projectors I've tried. The higher brightness really helps a lot.

As you can probably tell, I've spent weeks thinking about these portable models :D In the end about a week ago I decided to go with the GV50. If it turns out I enjoy the projection experience, I'll keep it as a portable due to battery and will save some money to buy a decent lifestyle projector in a year or two for my favorite projection position in the house - which I don't know yet haha. \--- I gotta say, I reaaaally wanted the JMGO N1S. Triple laser and portable, what's not to like. But then I realized that: \- Any repairs/warranty work from where I am in Europe would mean shipping to US or China/HK. So two months without the projector easily. \- JMGO tries to actively hide the N1S model. It's not really highlighted in their website or amazon store pages, and most Amazon stores only carry the bigger models. Somehow the even smaller model (JMGO Picoflix) is also easy to find. This is a red flag for me. Something is up, I don't want to find out at this point. This is just friendly advice so you can gain from my research. If you just need to have brightness the Dangbei Atom might be good enough for you, without the triple laser issues of the N1S.

Had it for about a week now, so here's my weigh in. It's got a great quality image, and fantastic features. As others have said, the built-in Google TV is sluggish - it works great with an Apple TV or a Roku. For on-the-go, the built in Google TV fast enough, it's not like it's unusable, it's just kinda slow sometimes. As far as Bluetooth connectivity goes, I have used Airpods, and I've also been using the projector paired with a large bluetooth speaker, and I have not noticed any discernable audio latency. Brightness is fantastic, and as others have said, if you use the High Performance, it ramps up crazy loud, but if you use the custom brightness and set it all the way up, it's most of the way there, but without the loud noise. That being said, you most likely won't need to set it to the max - it's easily visible with ambient light. All around, it's a fantastic buy especially at the price.

I think that's the one I want. This Google TV just isn't cutting it. I was going to order the Dangbei Mars FHD but I found the 4K version on eBay for the same price. I ordered that one. Honestly, the Atom is a great projector when paired with another device. I might just keep it anyway.

I have had my Dangbei Atom for about a week as well. I’ve don’t even use the built in launcher anymore. It’s so much better using a secondary device. It’s a completley different device when paired with an Apple TV. You can even set it to where you can Do everything with the Apple TV remote and never see that laggy Google TV. The other negative I would say is that any brightness above this standard brightness kicks the fan on way too loud so you aren’t likely to use the full brightness. It’s nice and silent otherwise. So far I really like the Dangbei Atom. I’ve never tried the Xgimi Elfin, but I’ve heard that the Xgimi projectors only power up to the built in Android TV.

Great to hear feedback from an owner, thanks! Shame about the sluggish performance of Google TV. Guess it kind of defeats the purpose of having all that capability onboard... Lack of 4K support is not a major concern for me, since I don't own any 4K content. Unless it becomes ubiquitous and finding 1080p content will be challenging. But hopefully that won't happen any time soon :)

Hello, I have Dangbei Atom for one week and there are only two problems - Google TV is extremely slow, launcher app is not keeping in memory and when you click Home it will open application as after reboot. Assistant services as Button Remapper also not keeping in memory and system always disable it - It doesn't support decoding for 4k videos at all (it is HUGE problem if you have personal video collection for example in personal NAS) Official support email replied me in 1 day. "Although the Atom chip supports 4K decoding, it doesn't support 4K decoding because the keystone correction function takes up the chip's bandwidth." P.s. Image quality and product itself is great, 2.85m gives me about 100 inches bright cinematic screen. (Maybe solution will be Mi TV stick 4k, but not sure yet about HDR with HDMI)
