Brompton Electric P Line

r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... Do you already cycle to work? If you do, is it an ebike or push bike? How far do you need to carry your bike at work? I ask these questions because if you are likely to get lazy and find other ways to get to work, you might find the ebike a bike you'll ride more often. I love the t-line (wish I had one) and I love riding road bikes for exercise, but I bought the p-line electric for my commute because at 6:30am I'm happy to get on it and put in minimal effort to get to the office. The p-line electric I got was the 12 speed but I now think I should have got the 4 speed and saved the money. I never bother changing the hub gear. The p-line electric is heavy to lift and carry for more than a minute or two. You could carry it for longer but you won't want to. It does roll nicely though as long as the ground is flat. Think carpets and well made pavements. Good luck with your decision!

r/Brompton · C line vs P line Some of the original P Line goodies have tickled down to the C Line. But next to the Ti triangle there's also the superlight saddle, superlight QR pedals, better tires + Tubolito PU inners and some other small bits & pieces. That's not too bad for 370£ imo.
r/Brompton · Considering an Electric C line for a 7mile commute I have both a P Line Electric 4 speed and a regular C Line 6 speed. While the C Line is absolutely fine, I'd *never ever* even consider choosing it over the P Line E as I like it so much better. Zipping through the city with the electric assist and the clean 4 speed gearing is just a blast. 👌🏻😎 FWIW - my electric has been flawless from day 1.
r/Brompton · Inconvenience of an electric Brompton I think there is some nuance missing here and there... I have a 1st Gen P Line Electric 4 speed and an H6R side by side - both in equal 'showroom' condition. The only really noticeable difference riding P Line E next to the H6R back-to-back is the harshness of the front end vs. the analog bike. The E bike has the motor in the front wheel and has shorter and thicker spokes, the forks are beefed up too. Some say the stem is reinforced as well but I doubt that tbo. These differences make the front / handlebars of the E bike clearly less comfortable (more vibrations & harshness). The much discussed drag of the unused motor is negligible imo. The extra 'drag' from the motor is easily off-set by the drag from the IGH on the 6 speed bike compared to the more efficient 4 speed derailleur-only drive. Or in other words; the P Line E 4 speed in analog mode (battery off) pedals lighter than the 6 speed with the IGN. Just to offer some perspective on the term 'drag'... 😊
r/Brompton · Brompton Electric G Line – First 35 km Ride 20 KMs seems way too short. On assist level 3 my P Line always manages 30-35 KMs while the motor has the same power output and the batt is smaller (BMZ). On assist 2 it ranges between 45 - 50 KMs. The G line is heavier and the G One tyres have high rolling resistance but I can't imagine the toll for that is this high. The bike being brand new and the batt maybe on its first charge could have something to do with it?

r/Brompton · Question: Brompton P-Line Electric 4 Gearshift "enough"? Gears really aren't an issue when you have electric assist, you will not be taking it on planes with it as ebikes aren't allowed.
r/Brompton · New P-line electric with rear hub motor Ebike battery range is nearly always over estimated regardless of brand as there's not a proper test for them. Basically Brompton will have tested most likely with a very light rider on the flattest terrain they can to eek out the range realistically you'll be getting a lot less. But then again it's for urban mobility so range for the vast majority of consumers isn't too much of a concern.
r/Brompton · Electric c vs p line: help me decide which one to get What you're paying for with the P line is a slightly nicer ride as titanium absorbs vibration better than steel. The issue is with the P line electric you only get a titanium rear triangle not a fork so ride quality won't be as nice as a none electric P line. I definitely wouldn't purchase an electric P line just for a kilo of weight savings. Gearing is fine as it's an electric bike you don't need that many gears as the bike will do a lot of the assistance for you. In your position I'd save the money go for a C line and invest the money in upgrades/mods. For walking it around I'd strongly advise you to get a rack will make it a lot easier.
r/Brompton · Electric c vs p line: help me decide which one to get No it's a small difference noticable but certainly not worth the four figure price difference.
r/Brompton · electric c vs p line, help me decide which one to get What you're paying for with the P line is a slightly nicer ride as titanium absorbs vibration better than steel. I definitely wouldn't purchase an electric P line list for a kilo of weight savings.

r/Brompton · C line vs P line Depends how important £370 is for you. P line is a bit lighter than C line. I don't think that matters in the slightest. Maybe if you do a lot of climbing but that seems moot if you are going electric as 1). the battery and motor weight is added and 2) you a have electric pedal assistance. No one is carrying their Brompton for any length of time and if you are over 5 feet tall, you can do so with arm locked out straight and pivot on your hip, so its not as lumpy as one might think.

r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... This is actually kind of a tough recommendation. 😅 I believe that the T Line is the best version of it. The fold experience is so much nicer with the self aligning hinges, stop screws on the spindle and lighter weight of the carbon fork and titanium frame. It also feels comfortable (to me, at least) but at the same is also very responsive making it very fun. And since the T Line is the lightest Brompton, it's very nice to carry while folded and even nicer when unfolded with the saddle over the shoulder. Despite this, if you plan to ride your Brompton from A to B, Home to Work - Work to Home, then the electric is nicer in my opinion. I've gotten quite lazy with my electric and for the benefit of my fitness I should never have got one, but I do ride more often and further because of it. The ability to arrive at work without being sweaty is amazing and I find it even better when I take it to visit friends at a pub or resturant as I won't be sweaty, which I have been on a normal Bromton and it is uncomfortable. I would say you should expect the electric to only last 3 - 5 years, where as with any Brompton you can reasonably expect to be able to get 10 years out of it. So, here's how I'd break it down: T Line: \- Lots of multi-modal use \- Lots/Frequent Carrying \- Touring/Exploring/Adventuring \- For use abroad \- If you want a premium experience and the best Brompton possible \- Lots of bag options E Brompton: \- If you want a workhorse \- Mainly using the Brompton to get from one place to another \- Easier commute \- Minimal sweat
r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... Warranty mainly. After 3 years you’ll have to spend around £600 for a new motor or battery in the event it dies. Some people aren’t willing to pay for that replacement, better to just C2W a new one. 😆

r/Brompton · Electric C-Line, Electric P-Line or Electric G-Line? Picked up my electric P line last week. As per the advice here I got the lightest one I could warrant spending money on which ended up being a P. So far it’s been nice to ride around town even in the cold and wet. It doesn’t really feel like a four speed because you’ve got both four gears and three electric power levels. I’ve only really needed electric level one and two, three is a lot of assist but useful for steeper hills. tbh I’ve not used more than three gears because you just shift power assist level if you want me options. So far it’s been good, will start commuting on it next week

r/Brompton · Complete Newbie Needing Advice (NYC) Recommended weight is 10kg on front and 10 kg on rear, that will have to include the battery, and management. If you overload the front, apart from invalidating your warranty, you can get speed wobbles, I live for the adrenaline of a weekly shop and the wobble, but not everyone enjoys the feeling. Sorry to generalise, ladies normally have smaller feet, therefore they're less likely to get heel strike, so you should be able to put a crate on the rear without it effecting pedalling, only issue is folding it up as you now have a crate, both bike and crate can sit in the trolley, but you won't be able to fold and use as a trolley with the crate in play. P-line loses some weight and you'll find that it has a want to accelerate faster, it does mean that the motor will spin up quicker, be that you or electric. This means 4 speed should be sufficient especially assisted. The latest version should also be more balanced as the weight of hub is on rack, when folded, the older version all the weight was on the front and therefore to the side. Hope the above makes sense.
r/Brompton · What happens to Brompton Electrics in 10 years? So feel free to totally ignore this after all I'm just a random person on the internet, don't buy a P Line electric, you might find it's light and fast & nimble enough that you don't need electric. If you do then buy and fit a grin motor. Brompton motors are ok, yes they're now back wheel, but imo they just aren't all that. As with all things the loudest voices are the ones who moan, so in this forum we see all the problem ones, in which case you have the right to moan) but only a few voice opinion when it goes right and have no problems. Anyway why grin technologies is now partnered with a startup company called Charge Bike. Charge Bike developed magic drive, it is a zero drag motor that has regenerative bgraking/charging this is the future, Grin developed modular batteries so with family you'd have sufficient battery to travel. Anyway as I said don't take my word have a look at what they are developing

r/Brompton · Is now a bad time to buy an electric C line? Highly Doubtful … battery used is already identical between both (so G borrows from C/P electrics) … and rear wheel of G is larger so allows for different internal hub motor + external gearing only—4-speed. G electric design seems limited for gearing options where the C/P electrics don’t have that problem With the electric motor being in the front of the bike. The rear can be focused on gearing options on the C/P. The G line electric seems to be restricted to external only. Hope they add more in the future 4 just too few for my needs. Love my c-12 electric!
r/Brompton · New P-line electric with rear hub motor The old BMZ batt was ~300Wh; the new Greenway (eG-4 + all 2025 models) is 345Wh. I’ve owned both. The new rear hub is more efficient too, so the ~20% range bump checks out. Honestly the biggest upgrade is the new bar controller, then the range IMO. I’ve had the recent eC-4 and now the eC-12 w/ the 345Wh Greenway. Wouldn’t trade the 12 for any of the new ones — 406% gearing range > modest motor gains. Super sad the 12s are gone 😢.
r/Brompton · Choosing my first Brompton _electric or manual? Electric P-12 ... essentially 48 gears. up to about 16mph .... I think the power assist would be most helpful, and allow to cycle longer when desired. I too live in a hilly town, bought the 4 speed electric; exchanged it 7mo. later for the 12, really needed those lower gears on some bad hills here! Not being very fit, and cycling as adult beginner ... makes the electric perfect for you methinks. Note you can always choose L0, battery on for lights but not powering the motor, if you want to ride without assistance; or leave the battery at home! Key is to INSIST on getting a bike w/Greenway battery; G-lines all have it; older stock of P electric might be BMZ ... DON'T accept one. The key advantage for me is the tiny charger; Price ($49( and size of a deck of cards ... where the BMZ is brick sized, $275, just can't easily bring it along. If you have the tiny Greenway charger, you can easily top on on the route, 30min gives me 4-6mi, or at your destination, gettin ready of the return trip. It's great for trains, buses, but always check their policies. Tube / trains in UK it's fine, but bus drivers have discretion to allow/not allow when needed. Eurostar requires a cover, as do Japanese trains, etc. Airplanes; bike is fine, battery is too large to fly; most ebike batteries are. If you want to take multi-way tours w/it and fly to get there, many replace the front electric motor wheel w/standard one to save some weight. Using the 12 shifters outlined here: [https://youtu.be/VYJaYKygF0s?si=EGIbchup6YddZMH\_](https://youtu.be/VYJaYKygF0s?si=EGIbchup6YddZMH_) Using the Level 0 - 3 power, L2 is what' recommended most of the time, L3 for bad hills, L1 for flats, slower speeds w/flats (cities). Do lots of test rides if possible; I did this for a couple months; really helped. I like to use my battery mostly in the 20% - 80% charge state; this will double or triple its useful lifespan, adding years to its life. Effective range for 60% of the battery for me, I'm 213Lbs., have the C-line 12, I can get 18-20mi or more - that's much more than I ride in a normal day. Note it's fine to charge to 100% from time to time, the manual says to do it monthly to rebalance the battery cells. But make sure you use it within a day; batteries should't reach extremes 100 for long or 0 ... I use 10% as my floor, then turn power assist off, keep battery on to power lights to get home. On new routes, out of town rides, I often charge to 100% to have extra range ... and now w/tiny Greenway battery charger I can top it up anywhere. Really makes 'range anxiety' a thing of the past for me. Oh … irregardless of which model, ALWAYS get the rack! It only adds 0.8 lbs. vs. no rack. Unnoticeable. Makes fold/roll a breeze … I do this all the time w/seat fully extended, pushing it along: [https://imgur.com/a/RUxleAs](https://imgur.com/a/RUxleAs) … if I need to get off train or short stairs, easy to push seat down to lock bike [https://imgur.com/a/x9pf7bd](https://imgur.com/a/x9pf7bd) Then set down, seat fully up and push along again. If I have a longer flight of stairs, I’ll do shoulder carry [https://imgur.com/a/T4Mie2R](https://imgur.com/a/T4Mie2R) Or if long escalator I have it fully unfolded in bike mode and just position on the stairs and hold the brakes till end. My fave is short grocery trips, which the electric basket is perfect for: [https://imgur.com/a/2-grocery-shopping-pics-cCDgiVB](https://imgur.com/a/2-grocery-shopping-pics-cCDgiVB) Here’s some great detail on the MK6 frame the c-12, G or any 4 or 12 speed comes with. r/Brompton · Brompton P Line electric The bags work on all bikes just swap out frames. That’s what I did when my new 12 speed electric came with the new greenway sonorous keep my old bags. Sounds like a new bike is in your future, since nothing can add the new rear motor on your old bike! I prefer the front wheel motor as it allows for my 12 speed to exist. And unlike that force is coming from pedaling in trad wheel and motor and front wheel … both wheels providing all wheel drive. Enjoy the new bike when you buy it!

r/Brompton · Question: Brompton P-Line Electric 4 Gearshift "enough"? Ask your seller their charging routine … this could help you determine likely battery condition. Just listen to what they say, ask for more detail, advice from their experience. Then report back here! If you get a good use price even buying a new battery makes it worthwhile methinks, since a new P line is about 4,800 US before tax! Check out used bike prices, perhaps use that to negotiate the price on offer For the bike you’re looking at. You probably have a lot of options like this because you’re in Europe it seems, look for companies like this, this is one of the US that sells used Brompton electrics: [https://upway.co/collections/electric-bikes?pf\_m\_%3A%3Aproduct%3A%3Abrand=Bromptoncheck](https://upway.co/collections/electric-bikes?pf_m_%3A%3Aproduct%3A%3Abrand=Bromptoncheck) If you can get the price down, it might be worth it, once you do a thorough check up at a bike shop that specialize in Brompton of course, you might find it’s more than enough for your needs, which it sounds like because of how flat the terrain you cycle in is versus where I live - the 4-speed electric was fine on most roads where I live … just wanted more options as previously described. If you do eventually go touring with the 4 speed electric, you could get a dual front chain ring to give you lower gears when you need to do hill climbing: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dbbAuFa60s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dbbAuFa60s) Lastly, you can always resell it if you don’t like it and want more later, you’ve already purchased the bike at a low cost so reselling it won’t be that much less expensive I would think if you get a fair price when you buy it! Bromptons seem to have great resale value

r/Brompton · Electric c vs p line: help me decide which one to get I think the main difference between the two is titanium rear triangle vs steel rear triangle, for me the difference in price is not worth it. OK the Electric P Line is slightly lighter but when it weighs 16-17kg a few hundred grams is not that much difference and it would only matter when you carry it.
r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... If you're cycling all the way, I would get the Electric P Line 4 speed, the electric assist means more weight doesn't matter. The T Line is better for taking on the train and for shorter distances, shorter than 9 miles each way.

r/Brompton · Hesitating between electric C and G line I’ve just gone through this myself. I have a 8 year old M6L which I love but moved house and big hill to end the day. Dropping to a 44t has helped but I’ve bitted the choice to go electric. I tested both the G and P electric. 4 gears on both. The P is brilliant, but doesn’t feel as refined as an electric bike as the G. The G is great fun and weight isn’t noticeably heavier (but fold is). I also train commute with one set of stairs in the morning and evening. I went with the G as it feels like a more appropriate electric bike with use that extends beyond commuting. Hope this helps, but I’d recommend trying both (I hated the whine of the P/C front motor!).

r/foldingbikes · Advice for complete noob trying to build my own electric G-line Brompton clone Thank you for this feedback. As I have it spec'd, you're right. It would be 32 lbs ready to ride and 37 lbs in commuter mode with gear. With the custom build I'm thinking of, the Grin battery would be much smaller and could be chucked in a backpack or a tote instead of the proprietary Brompton battery bag/sling. I also looked at Aceoffix, but I really do want an ebike and theirs are acoustic and not particularly suited for aftermarket conversion, especially for carrying cargo. I'm thinking of adding the H&H X-Roller Extender to hopefully combat that to widen the wheelbase so it would be slightly less unwieldy for its weight compared to your experience. Thanks for the tips for carrying the trifold, and I hope the Aceoffix C5 is everything you want it to be!

r/foldingbikes · Advice for complete noob trying to build my own electric G-line Brompton clone I'm in nyc, and I have an electric p-line. It's totally amazing, but at 37lbs w/ accessories, still pretty heavy. Carrying the battery separately has also been a bit awkward TBH (no good backpacks -- they're all slings, and I've tried them all!) Your bike will likely be just as heavy and certainly bigger. To that end, I ordered an Aceoffix C5, which is 2 months late due to shipping issues from China, but should be arriving in August and will weigh around 16-17lbs.

r/Brompton · Electric c vs p line: help me decide which one to get I regret getting electric P line instead of C line. My partner has C line and it hasn’t had many issues at all, but since owning a P line for just over a year it’s had to be fixed so many times for random issues rgat never occurred in the C line that was bought in 2021 and used much more for longer distances. I won’t list the exact issues here but I’m short hinge issues, wheels, breaks, chain issues… you name it :( I recommend getting a C line any day. It’s much more robust, durable and heavy duty it feels. And the weight difference is only minimal if you don’t plan on lifting it much in general.

Give it a try for a week and see how you feel about the non-electric. I used my Brompton for a jounrey I'd done before on my hybrid bike and an eBike. After two days I started taking the Brompton on the train because I was amazed how much harder the hills were on it compared to my hybrid. A T-line would be geat for multi-modal journeys carrying it folded on the tube/train/bus, the electric might be better if you're gonna cycle all the way and there's hills but I wouldn't want to carry an electric.

r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... T-line, I wouldn’t get an electric brompton. So many other similar bikes with better e-systems and cheaper.

r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... Hello, you have to check your own specific needs. What if you don't have enough physical resitance/endurance and you may need to commute a long distance, then the electric brompton is a good option. If not, then the T line is not only lighter, but it also allows you to travel by plane with it. Keep in mind that you cannot take the battery of your electric brompton on a plane.

r/Brompton · Stuck between two Bromptons... Are you fit as a cyclist? If yes, you don't need an e-bike. Also, a Brompton is the type of bike you haul with you everywhere. The e-bike is going to be heavier than a T line.

r/Brompton · New P-line electric with rear hub motor Did you watch the video though? Their Marketing says 90km, the real world test got over 100. Seems to me unlike some brand, Brompton are actually advertising an accurate range! I have the G line and the range shown on the handlebar controller is spot on when compared to Strava.

r/Brompton · New P-line electric with rear hub motor 90 miles with a 345Wh battery, not a chance, not happening even on lowest assist setting! This is WLTP, not real world.
r/Brompton · Is this level of rear wheel stiffness normal on a Brompton Electric C Line? Same here on my P.

r/ebikes · Thinking of switching from a Lectric XP Lite 2.0 to a Brompton Electric (P Line vs G Line) I had a Brompton C and I still have my original XP Lite. Here are my comments. >It’s been solid for the price, but I’m running into a few issues and I can't discern its because I don't have much experience with ebikes: >Wobbly handling, especially at low speeds or around tight turns You might want to have your assembly and the bike in general checked at the local bike shop. Be ready to pay a small fee for this. Sometimes they come with the steering stem installed backwards. If you decide to sell it, you'll be able to say it's been tuned up by a pro. >Hard to feel stable or intuitive when slowing down — **brakes feel far**, and assist isn’t always smooth If assembly is right, this sounds like a skill level thing. Maybe the brake cables need to be tightened up after their initial stretching... >Heavy and awkward to move around (I’m in a city, so portability matters) Yes, for a "Lite" eBike, they're still on the heavy side at around 50 lbs. Most folding eBikes are more like 65+ lbs though. They're not for lifting too often... > **What I want to know is:** >How does a Brompton ride compared to a Lectric in terms of comfort and control? My Brompton was a bit more comfortable than my XP Lite, despite having smaller, narrower tires. I think the frame, handle post and seat posts all had some flex that smoothed out the ride a bit. As for control, it was excellent, but steering was a bit twitchy. I got used to it quickly, but I've been riding bikes my whole life; it might take you longer. >Do the 16” wheels on the P Line feel twitchy or do you adapt quickly? Yes and yes. ;-) >Is the assist smooth and responsive, especially from a stop? I can't help here, as I had a regular one not electric. >Would the G Line be better for someone who values stability and confidence over compactness? Yes, if you can afford it! However, you'd get used to the smaller wheels and come to enjoy the compactness and lightness of the C or P line, in a city. (unless your roads are awful) * If you’ve switched from a heavier e-bike (like Lectric, Rad, etc.) to a Brompton, was it night-and-day better, or just different? I have a couple of folding bikes, a couple of heavier eBikes and another folding eBike. They all have different character, but for something that needs to be loaded/unloaded often, lightness and compactness are king!

r/Brompton · Is this level of rear wheel stiffness normal on a Brompton Electric C Line? Ditto. But when I fitted a back carrier to it this almost completely stopped, as well as it being much more stable when folded.

r/Brompton · Question: Brompton P-Line Electric 4 Gearshift "enough"? I am sorry for the heated discussion between you two, but you showed me up options I havnt tought of yet. Maybe its only fair if I give a few more insights on what i plan to do: What is everyone of us doing? Get up and ready for work. So next to my car, exspecially now when summer starts again, the usage of a bike to work would definitely be an option. Taking the Brompton with me on plane? The fantasy is there - but, I am honest, I think taking it with me first local, then local with car, and then perhaps traveling is far more realistic. So the conclusion is - which situation is the most regular one? Go to work. Second one? Driving the bike for a quick shop to the local grocery. Third one? Stroll around to get my head free. The Seller would give away his P-Line Electric 4 Gear for 2.500€. Maybe thats also an interesting fact to think about. But no money is really "safed" if the bought item is simply not fitting for my purpose, thats why I am here. :-)

r/Brompton · Question: Brompton P-Line Electric 4 Gearshift "enough"? I don’t put much stuff on it cos it’s kind of small, but imo, it’s a must have if you want to roll your Brompton on the ground folded, which from going shopping with it to carrying it across train stations, I do a ton.

r/Brompton · Electric G line vs C Line: Comfort?
