Out of the box the S90F does about 1600 nits peak but clips at 1200 at game mode defaults. 2100 is a noticeable improvement for bright highlights, things like fire and bright lights. It’s not a massive difference though I’d say. The drawback would be theoretically increased burn in risk, but people have been running 2000 nits modded S90C’s and S95C’s for years now and most seem to be doing fine, so I don’t think it’s that bad.

r/4kTV · Why does everyone on here say to avoid s90/95f yet rtings has them as top recommendations?

S90F: If you get a QD-OLED panel, it’s a good TV as far as PQ goes. AFAIK, it lacks the matte screen of S95F. It all boils down to what panel are you getting for sure. Good thing is it is easier to figure out. S95F: Great TV for reflection handling. However, the OneConnect Box can be a PITA. In a light controlled room, I will take G5 over the S95F. S95F did well in the TV shootout. But if you look at Vincent’s other videos with QD-OLEDs, he disables the ASBL settings from service menu for Samsung and LG TVs in shootouts. Samsung tends to have more aggressive ASBL than its competitors. Also their reputation in terms having good QA/QC isn’t that stellar. They aren’t as bad as Hisense. But issues are there.

You are on an LG forum, so all your answers will be skewed towards LG, for instance, no one mentioned the color accuracy of the QD-OLED panel vs the WOLED that the LGs both have, or the color-banding that exists on WOLED panels that almost never appears on QD-OLED, I have both an LG C6 and a Samsung S90F and I can tell you that the S90F is far better at gaming, color accuracy, off-axis viewing, and HDR brightness. HDR10 vs Dolby Vision is only really a large issue on cheaper televisions with poor tone-mapping, very negligible on these 3 TVs. The G6 is brighter in most situations, but that is about it, you would be happy with any of these three TVs, but unless you are watching a lot of SDR upscaled content, the S95H is the winner.

r/4kTV · What 55" OLED TV for UK are recommended? Home cinema movies & gaming equally via AVR

C5 as a midrange model is a great choice. The S90F is a good alternative, but at that size you won’t get the patented QD-OLED tech, instead you get a WOLED panel. You need to go 65 inches to get that and at that point a premium 55 inch S95F may cost the same. There are better OLEDs like the Sony A95L, Samsung S95F, LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B, but these are flagship TVs that will cost more however. C5 is the best bang for your buck I would say.

There are some OLEDs like the LG G5, Panasonic Z95B, Samsung S95F and Samsung S90F that do well in bright rooms and vs reflections to be honest. But since you want a mini LED for bright rooms probably the Samsung QN90F, as its tailor made for your needs. Bravia 7 is better for movies, but its ability to handle direct reflections aren’t as good imo.

    r/4kTV · S90D or LGc5 for gaming and movies?

LG C5 is better for movies due to its image processing and it supports Dolby Vision (industry standard for most streaming content). S90D has HDR10 which isn’t as widely used. S90D offers up to 144HZ natively which makes it a better option for PC gaming. C5 is at 120HZ which is still solid for console gaming and has Dolby Vision gaming for Xbox too. Both have 4 HDMI 2.1 Ports and low input lag. It’s important to note the S90D has a bit of a panel lottery depending on where you are from and which size you get. Some are QD-OLEDs (Samsung’s specialty) and some are WOLED (you are better off with a LG WOLED). I tend to prefer the flagship Samsung’s over LGs (Samsung S95F>LG G5), but I think the LG C5 is a better midrange option than the S90 series. I think the S90F was a solid upgrade over the its predecessor the S90D due to its improved upscaling and brightness, but it still is worse for movies imo than the LG C5. So the midrange Samsung imo is slightly better for gaming, but in terms of movies the LG C5 clears it.

If you want an OLED for bright rooms the Panasonic Z95B, Samsung S95F and LG G5 are great for bright rooms. The Samsung S90F can work too and since you are going for the 65 inch model; there wont be any panel lottery. Mini LEDs for bright rooms would include the Samsung QN90D/F, TCL C8K/QM8K and Sony Bravia 9. Avoid the Bravia 7 though as whilst it’s a very good Mini LED, its reflections are horrible and its viewing angles aren’t the best for the living room imo. I’ve got a Samsung S95F in my living room that’s bright and it’s great for gaming especially. Movies are solid too, but I prefer my Sony A95L in my room for that.

For Mini LEDs: TCL QM7K/C7K for a budget option. Samsung QN90F as a midrange option. Sony Bravia 9 Mk 2 for an expensive flagship option. For OLEDs: LG G5, Panasonic Z95B and Samsung S95F for flagship OLEDs. S90F for a midrange OLED (make sure you get the right size for the QD tech though). I don’t think the budget OLEDs are all that great for bright rooms though.

The S90f is a decent upgrade I would say. It has better motion handling, upscaling and is brighter. The S90D isn’t bad however. The only issue with the 55inch Samsung models is the panel lottery for QDOLED vs WOLED imo. I’d get an LG C5 if you want a 55 inch midrange OLED and don’t need the anti glare tech.

S90F or C5 If it’s purely for gaming in a dark room, I would have to go for the S90F. HDR brightness on a QD-OLED pops off the screen. If you are going to be using for movies and/or mostly in brighter lot room, then C5. S90F has a very effective anti-reflective panel but can give a slightly purplish hue if the room is bright. C5 will retain its deep inky blacks wherever you have it. In a dark room, S90F wins, its brightness and wider colour range, just looks stunning. I have both, they are both great TVs If you can stretch to either of these two. Maybe save a couple more months, it’s definitely worth the extra.

OLED has made significant progress in the past 2-3 years, but you need to up yourself to G or S95 series to reap the benefits. C series used to be the go-to OLED but really has not made any meaningful progress since CX/C1 if you don’t count C6H. If your budget doesn’t allow, then you should go for S90F (not S90H) instead of C5/6 if your focus is gaming.

r/4kTV · What TV to buy for gaming with a PS5?

I would pick up a 65" S90F and call it a day. The colors are vibrant, and gaming on an OLED is amazing. While not in the same ballpark, I have the Sony A95L QD-OLED and it's amazing. If I had to pick between these three, I would snag the Samsung.

    r/4kTV · Samsung S90 vs LG C5 vs Sony Bravia 8

Are you looking at the Bravia 8 II (QD-OLED) or just the regular Bravia 8 OLED? I would also reach out to LG from their online chat and see if you can't score an extra discount from them. They are pretty well known to give you at least an extra 10% off, especially if you tell them you're looking at other OLEDs. I would lean more Bravia 8 II, as I love Sony and their picture processing. Plus QD-OLED is just WOW. However, if it's not the Bravia 8 II, then I would probably go with the LG G5 since it's brighter and is overall the better TV than the S90F.

    r/4kTV · Samsung S90 vs LG C5 vs Sony Bravia 8

Oh 😂 Well, then that kind of changes my recommendation then because I would recommend the Samsung S90F over the C5. While the LG C5 is slightly brighter in SDR, the QD-OLED panel that Samsung uses is able to display colors more vibrantly and has a much wider color volume. I personally would choose that over a standard WOLED panel. I only leaned more heavily LG because I thought you were getting the G5 which is a lot brighter and the RGB Tandem OLED panel really does expand the color volume more giving the S90F a run for its money.

They are very similar in performance when it comes to picture processing and how they handle motion. It's one of the reasons why I love Sony. However, it's just not as bright and vibrant as the Bravia 8 II. That's because the XR8B uses a standard WOLED panel vs the QD-OLED found on the Bravia 8 II or Samsung S95F. Personally, if you can't justfiy the price jump to the Bravia 8 II then I would look at the Samsung S95F (or S95H) or S90F. These use QD-OLED panels, so you will still get that vibrant color reproduction, in fact Samsung is even brighter than Sony, the only downside is that you would lose out on that top tier Sony processing.

QDOLED and WOLED are types of OLED panels. If you get S90F with QD panel, the colors can get significantly brighter and more vibrant than S90F with W panel. It's hard to know with Samsung because they don't want to talk about the panel lottery. But they only do this panel lottery with S90F, not with S95F/H which are all QD. S90H is W, btw. r/4kTV · LG (C5) vs Samsung (S90F). Which one would you buy for €1200?

Okay so I'm just an average guy that likes his tech and has tried both. The C5 is the one I chose to keep but honestly, it's a matter of circumstances and personal taste. Let me explain.. Had an LG C9 for years now, best TV I've ever owned so the obvious upgrade was a C5 but I found a better deal on the 65 inch S90F with cashback here in the UK so took a chance on it as a lot of the reviews point to this being the better pick. It lasted two weeks before getting returned and replaced with the 65 inch C5.  The S90F was frustrating to say the least. It didn't upscale lower quality content very well, the picture/sound/brightness settings did what they wanted to do despite numerous attempts to mess about with them (which didn't make a massive difference anyway) and in typical Samsung fashion, everything was massively overdone. Colours and saturation were massively overblown and it was eye piercingly bright, so much so that it hurt. Even at half brightness, it was too much. The final straw was the black level raise that everyone talks about. Under direct or with strong ambient light, the blacks just go grey and can have a magenta tint to them due to the lack of a polariser on the display. That defeats the purpose of an OLED to me. The C5 is less frustrating to use, has a more balanced picture out of the box, upscales lower quality content better and in my opinion, feels like a more premium TV. Oh and the blacks stay black. It doesn't pop as much or have the wow factor you CAN occasionally get on the Samsung but it's an all round excellent TV and if you've not had OLED before, you'll still be very much taken aback by it like I was when I first bought my C9 7 years ago. Tizen Vs WebOS is down to preference. I found them so similar it's not even worth comparing. Dolby Vision is a nice feature on the LG if you game on an Xbox like I do. HDR10+ isn't a fair alternative like it's suggested to be as it's not widely adopted enough. I had to purposely search up HDR10+ videos on YouTube to get it to kick in for example. Best explanation I can give is that for 10% of the time, the Samsung is the better TV. It has that pop and that wow factor with the right settings displaying the right content under the right room conditions at the right time. But for the other 90%, the LG does a better job as it looks good with most of what you throw at it. The Samsung CAN look a bit better, but only with a small selection of content in a dark room. Hope this helps 🤙

Very timely post. I just had to decide between a S90F and a B4 from warranty. To replace a C1. Got them to bump up that B4 to a C5, but from my review S90F seems to be very highly rated. I was always an LG man, C2 and C4 in living room. Bought the s90f for 80% gaming use. It is terrific so far. The fidelity and color pop is magic. A challenge is when using streaming apps on the console, you may want to turn off game mode. I also found that movie mode (my usual PQ setting for setting) did not as swell as on the LG sets. So I use Normal. This set is also much brighter than LG OLEDs, my old eyes can only handle brightness at 33 in my darkened den.

From my research, the S90/95 is the gaming panel of choice, but Samsung quality issues still persist with the panel and firmware - so they have not solved it. Really, at this point for the 65 in, they are same price on Amazon. Coin flip on which will drop to my $1199 insta buy.

I just had this dilemma and went with the s90f which was exactly 66% the price of the G5. I find QD Oled's colors better for my dark room use case and it's also the more durable panel type. Delamination gets all Woleds eventually. Also I can get Dolby Vision working with CoreElec the same way it would work with the LG. I don't watch streaming, only uhd bluray remuxes.

I tried a C5 out for almost 3 months. The picture was decent but I couldn't stand the remote, the glitchy OS which kept dropping wifi and general lagginess. Ended up with a couple S90F units and much happier with everything about it. If your just researching now, make sure you give it a look as well. Both are around the same price point.

I prefer a bigger screen for immersive single player games, and the s90f qd-oled panel is far superior to the c5's standard woled. If 55" isnt too big for you, id consider it the better option.

The s90f 65” inch is great…. Until the power board fails 5 months in, so had to buy a c5 which I wish I just went with as had a c1 for 5 years and not a single problem. But wanted qd panel which is amazing, and once my s90f is back from repair will make my mind up, but the Samsung does have known issues on early s90f which I didn’t know and don’t even know if mine is early as can’t turn it on and unlike lg who has the build date on the back.

    r/tcltvs · A very interesting comparison of the TCL C8K(QM8K) & Sony BRAVIA 5

Makes more sense like this, yeah. It's just Samsung and LG forfeited the LCD budget and mid-range markets and shifted to OLEDs and beyond entirely. If they hadn't done that, TCL and Hisense wouldn't have take the main spotlight in the LCD market nearly as easily. But they just don't care about LCDs anymore. The QN90F is the last remnant of a decent MiniLED from Samsung and I'd say it's too overpriced compared to the S90F for pretty much the same money, but I don't thick there's any TCL or Hisense that can beat it on its local dimming algorithm. Everything below the QN90F is utter dogshit, true. Mainly relying on the QLED and Samsung brand image to literally bait customers into overpriced supermarket-level garbage.

Out my 3 TVs (Panasonic z95, Sony bravia 7 and Samsung s90f) the Samsung clearly has the worst motion handling. Filmmaker mode is the best picture setting to reduce stutter but all OLEDs will have some stutter during panning shots. See if you can play around with the picture settings in the shop and see if it changes how you like the image. My Samsung is my gaming TV so don’t mind too much.

r/4kTV · upgrading to best lg tv, which OLED actually holds up?

B lowest tier - C mid tier - G top tier. Number is second digit in the year so C5 is the C model from 2025. Then they have various second letters like B6E which seems to be this years lowest entry model and C6H which is I think only available in 77” & 83” and uses a different panel then regular C6. Brightness is probably the biggest visual difference so brighter the room the brighter the panel you will want. So if you are in a dim basement a B will probably be fine, if you are on a main level with some sun probably want a C and if you get direct sun probably want a G. Other stuff is like faster processors for upscaling and other feature sets are also a difference. Watching in the store non demo content that is needing upscaling I can see the difference between processors because usually during motion stuff like grass stays more grass like less blob like, TV people can probably pick up a lot more. Currently C5 are on the way out since last year’s model and seem like the best value. I’m looking for my basement and I’m trying to decide if a 77” B6E is enough since that’s the one in my budget but my eye keeps comparing it to C5 and Samsungs S90F and wanting those, they are brighter, handle upscaling better which my eye likes. Problem is basement isn’t ready and I would like to wait for Black Friday or later in the year when those TV’s will no longer be available.

Best bang for buck would be the 65” Samsung S90F with QD OLED. It’s great for gaming and processing isn’t top tier like Sony, but not as bad as some subs make it out to be. Or you could opt for the S95F/H but those have matte coatings and be sure you’re not in a bright room, it wouldn’t be too beneficial.

Rtings tests have shown that this TV uses the same panel as the LG C6 but with a much higher brightness cap. It gets to 1400 nits peak while the C6 gets close to 1900 nits. So the C6 is the better choice. Or you could go with a 2025 S90F, which is also much brighter than this one. The S90H just doesn’t make any sense.

    r/tcltvs · TCL C8K (QM8K) or Samsung S90f (QD OLED)?

For that room, I would probably lean [TCL C8K](https://featherab.com/shopit?TCL+C8K) unless movie watching at night is clearly the main thing, honestly. I went through a similar OLED versus mini LED choice, and the bright window plus sports use matters more day to day than the showroom black levels. The [Samsung S90F](https://featherab.com/shopit?Samsung+S90F) will likely look cleaner in dark-room movies and have that OLED contrast, but reflections, panel care, and daytime punch are the tradeoffs. The TCL makes more sense if TV channels, sports, and mixed family use are the norm. I would only pay the extra for Samsung if you are comfortable with OLED handling and mostly watch controlled lighting content.

r/4kTV · TCL C7K or LG B5 oled for gaming

Sport looks way worse than on my old LG. I’ve tried different settings, nothing helped. In some videos I noticed terrible flickering, it doesn’t happen often, but when you notice it, you can’t unsee it. The biggest flickering I’ve seen so far was in the last of us 2 (hillcrest) hdr 4k video on youtube. Believe me, I tried literally everything to remove it, but it didn’t help. I even downloaded the game on pc, and unfortunately, the flickering was very noticeable in the game as well. I’ve had terrible artifacts in re4 remake, but they might’ve been fixable(I’ve uninstalled it really quickly). In pragmata, saros and diablo 4 no issues at all(in terms of visuals). But TV sometimes loses hdmi signal when I use 120hz(I will try a different cable, but on 60hz no issues). I thought my unit was faulty and ordered another one, it was as bad as mine. Unfortunately, I couldn’t return it because of the shitty seller, but it is what it is. It’s not terrible TV by any means, blacks are really good tbh(almost oled), 4k mostly looks really good, gaming is great(but sometimes you can see black smearing), audio is fine(at least for me), but I wish I had grabbed Samsung qe s90f or LG C5.

I am not picky about color tones, tone mapping, pq eotf.. my Qd-oled monitor looks way better in this scenario. If you pick one you get one and loose one. I figured brightness is key for living room.
