Also the panel is supposedly much more burn in Resistant and the G5 comes with a 5 year burn in warranty which is worth the cost alone. If you plan on mounting it will also look significantly sleeker on the wall. For a $400 difference it’s totally worth it to me if you can afford it. If it was like a 1k difference I may have had a different thought on it.

Trust me from someone that has been an Oled snob for years and then went and bought a 98 a tcl QM7K because an Oled a that size is unobtainable. I’m literally selling right now for an 83 lg g5. My exact use cases are sports(basketball) YouTube, and gami gaming. Oled is vastly superior in all 3 categories. Not only is LGs processing much better for motion clarity but the instant response time of the technology itself is a 100x better for motion clarity and watching sports. And then the picture quality is night and day. To get my contrast on the tcl at an acceptable rate because I’m used to Oled I had to turn the brightness way down so it inhibits its actual advantages. The new oleds are getting very bright now with great HDR peak brightness. The Oled is better in every case.
r/LGOLED · Upgrade to C5 OLED from a Samsung? This, I had to move, went from an 83 inch Oled c2 to a 98 inch QM7k which had phenomenal reviews for the price point and I always wanted a home theatre experience. The problem though was that I’d been in the OLED ecosystem for about 6 years. Even though that tcl is a good mini led and great for the price I knew within 2 weeks I made a mistake. The picture never has that same pop with the contrast, watching sports seem pixelated and had a trail and low res upscaling even in a much newer tv was significantly worse. Long story short I just picked up an 83 inch G5 to replace the 98 tcl and will be looking to sell it. It’s still a great tv for the price but OLED is just on another level of picture quality and motion handling.

r/4kTV · Why does everyone on here say to avoid s90/95f yet rtings has them as top recommendations? S90F: If you get a QD-OLED panel, it’s a good TV as far as PQ goes. AFAIK, it lacks the matte screen of S95F. It all boils down to what panel are you getting for sure. Good thing is it is easier to figure out. S95F: Great TV for reflection handling. However, the OneConnect Box can be a PITA. In a light controlled room, I will take G5 over the S95F. S95F did well in the TV shootout. But if you look at Vincent’s other videos with QD-OLEDs, he disables the ASBL settings from service menu for Samsung and LG TVs in shootouts. Samsung tends to have more aggressive ASBL than its competitors. Also their reputation in terms having good QA/QC isn’t that stellar. They aren’t as bad as Hisense. But issues are there.

I also Analyse games with a reshade HDR Analyser and the instances where you really profit from the BT2020 gamut are very, very rare. 98 percent of games dont even use BT 2020 and even if yes, a few percent at best. What’s way more common is that you have lights and colors which have a bit of white in them (like the sun) and there the G5/6 is brighter by quite a bit. Apart from that the G5 had more clarity and definition and depth to the image to me, I think because of the glossy coating. I would buy a G5/6 any time again over the matte Samsungs, especially since they even have the immersion breaking frame now.

And you see that clearly in the measurements. But apart from some demo material on YouTube there is next to no content whixh actually uses it. And in reality you almost never have a fully saturated color whixh is that bright. You usually have always some part of white mixed in it. Sunlight, flashlights or room light whixh is usually the brightest part of the image in gaming scenarios are partially white and the G5/6 can easily get bright enough there. There were some fully saturated neon signs in cyberpunk that were Somewhat brighter on the QD oled but even there the difference was not night and day. In all the other scenes usually the G5 was brighter. The matte coating is meant to surpress reflections so it doesn’t look like a mirror. Zhe problem is it diffuses the light over a larger area whixh makes the image loose contrast - oleds biggest strength and the most important aspect of image quality. This leads to a flatter looking picture which is not as crisp and 3d dish like a glossy screen. If you Digg deeper in the enthusiast community you will see other enthusiasts confirm this view. For Thai reason alone I would pick the G5/6 over ghe Samsungs any time of the day

r/LGOLED · LG OLED G5 65" pencil thin vertical line with small black dot... minor or major issue? I think it's a panel defect rather than image retention. Since you already ran a pixel refresh and the line is still there, I wouldn't expect it to disappear with more use. I would contact LG as soon as possible and give them the serial number. They may still honor the warranty even if you don't have the receipt. If they can't, I would reach out to the seller and see if they can provide the original Amazon receipt. I wouldn't wait because it's unlikely to fix itself.

The S90F is a good alternative, but at that size you won’t get the patented QD-OLED tech, instead you get a WOLED panel. You need to go 65 inches to get that and at that point a premium 55 inch S95F may cost the same. There are better OLEDs like the Sony A95L, Samsung S95F, LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B, but these are flagship TVs that will cost more however. C5 is the best bang for your buck I would say.

But since you want a mini LED for bright rooms probably the Samsung QN90F, as its tailor made for your needs. Bravia 7 is better for movies, but its ability to handle direct reflections aren’t as good imo.
r/4kTV · S90D or LGc5 for gaming and movies? LG C5 is better for movies due to its image processing and it supports Dolby Vision (industry standard for most streaming content). S90D has HDR10 which isn’t as widely used. S90D offers up to 144HZ natively which makes it a better option for PC gaming. C5 is at 120HZ which is still solid for console gaming and has Dolby Vision gaming for Xbox too. Both have 4 HDMI 2.1 Ports and low input lag. It’s important to note the S90D has a bit of a panel lottery depending on where you are from and which size you get. Some are QD-OLEDs (Samsung’s specialty) and some are WOLED (you are better off with a LG WOLED). I tend to prefer the flagship Samsung’s over LGs (Samsung S95F>LG G5), but I think the LG C5 is a better midrange option than the S90 series. I think the S90F was a solid upgrade over the its predecessor the S90D due to its improved upscaling and brightness, but it still is worse for movies imo than the LG C5. So the midrange Samsung imo is slightly better for gaming, but in terms of movies the LG C5 clears it.

The Samsung S90F can work too and since you are going for the 65 inch model; there wont be any panel lottery. Mini LEDs for bright rooms would include the Samsung QN90D/F, TCL C8K/QM8K and Sony Bravia 9. Avoid the Bravia 7 though as whilst it’s a very good Mini LED, its reflections are horrible and its viewing angles aren’t the best for the living room imo. I’ve got a Samsung S95F in my living room that’s bright and it’s great for gaming especially. Movies are solid too, but I prefer my Sony A95L in my room for that.

The problem is that your budget is generally for 55 inch flagship TVs to 65 inch midrange models. I wouldn’t get a refurbished OLED under any circumstances as it isn’t really worth it. On paper a Panasonic Z95B would’ve been perfect for you as it supports all the formats and is good for bright rooms. The problem is that it’s hard to find these days and the 77 inch models would’ve been out of your price range anyway. The Samsung QN90F is usually the best bet for gamers that want a bright room mini LED thanks to its anti glare screen, but you aren’t a Samsung fan due your Dolby Vision requirement and because you are not focused on gaming. I think unless you plan on saving some money and being patient, you would be better off going for a 65 inch Mini LED or a 65 inch LG G5 (Flagship LG Model) on a good discount maybe on Black Friday. 65 inch TCL C8K and the 65 inch Sony Bravia 7 (MK1 not 2) are the only two mini LEDs I can think of that you can afford that may suit you and not seem like a complete downgrade vs your LG C4.

For OLEDs: LG G5, Panasonic Z95B and Samsung S95F for flagship OLEDs. S90F for a midrange OLED (make sure you get the right size for the QD tech though). I don’t think the budget OLEDs are all that great for bright rooms though.

The flagships like the Bravia 8 MK2 and Samsung S95F, LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B might be out of your price range. If you can find a rare Sony A95L new though that would be ideal (my uncle managed to snag a 55 inch model boxed and new in store for a little over a £1100/$1474), but the 55 inch size is discontinued in general (only 77 inch remains online).

You're getting a 40% area increase with C5 65 vs 60% brightness increase with G5 55. Which is pretty close. G5 is slightly ahead but you're getting a bigger screen with C5 too.

r/LGOLED · LG G6/C6 vs Samsung S95H I have an 83” G4 and G5 in my house. They’re the best TVs I’ve ever owned. I follow a bunch of tv enthusiasts on YouTube and from what I’ve seen, despite the UGLY bezel, the Samsung s95H is the best bright room OLED TV released this year so far. We may be talking about small percentage points, but the consensus is that it’s the best, as it’s processing and motion handling, things that were problems before, have been said to be much better. You can’t go wrong with either, especially if the LG happens to be much cheaper. Whichever you choose, enjoy your new TV!

r/LGOLED · LG CX to a LG G5 I upgraded from a 55" inch CX to a 65" G5 last year so I can give ly 2 cents. First of all, depending on the content you watch/play, even in HDR, you might not notice big changes because the brightness of the content is below 1000 nits. I've had the chance to have them side by side and, in bright scenes in movies, you do see a difference in APL (average picture level). The G5 is significantly brighter, and can maintain its brightness at 50 or 75% way better than the CX, especially in scenes where this is snow or the scene goes to white fullscreen, explosions and such. I barely saw the ABL (automatic brightness limiter) kicking in all movies I've watched. In Godzilla minus one for example, you could notice the ABL in CX, not on the G5. Same for color, in some movies with bright colors, you can see how saturation is way better (ex: Mad Max Fury Road, Into the Spider verse/ Across the Spider verse, Alpha, Top Gun Maverick, Frankenstein Netflix...). Even in SDR, you can notice the difference. I played Horizon Forbidden West recently, on my 5080. Peak brightness can't go above 1 500 nits unfortunately, but oh boy! It looked soooooooo good! You won't regret the upgrade, I can tell you that! In summary, Brightness at more than 10% window in HDR, color saturation, peak brightness (ALPHA) Pls enjoy that great TV! 😁
r/LGOLED · LG CX to a LG G5 HDR brightness is better overall in the sense that, if in a scene, the CX can't get the APL where it's supposed to be, it'll be for the G5. Peak brightness is way better, but most movies don't get higher than 1000 nits of peak. So, in most movies, you might not see that big of difference between the 2, depending on what you watch. If you are watching Jurassic World, the latest one, peak brightness is only 200 nits, so you won't see a difference in that specific scene. However, it other scenes where there is lots of bright colors/scenery, the scene will be brighter on the G5 because it has more headroom. If you watch Pan or Alpha for example, you'll definitely see what the G5 is capable of!

r/LGOLED · LG G5 worth it over the C5 I have a G4 but the relative difference between the models in generations is about the same. G4 is amazing and I've seen the reviews for G5 and 6 as well, they had some issues but are great now after updates. It's really good so happy, the one thing I'll say is by going for a G over a C or B, you will have less thoughts like this is great, but I wonder how good the G is, maybe I should have got the better model etc. You have the best of the generation. Would definitely recommend going through the settings and familiarising yourself with them. Particularly brightness and colour ones. With colour, I was a little disappointed by the image from my PC and then I noticed the colour gamut option. Swapped from default to another option and it looked like getting a whole new TV, colours were suddenly amazing. Definitely recommend tweaking a profile to your liking rather than just using standard or vivid (standard is too bland, vivid is too vivid).

r/LGOLED · LG CX to a LG G5 I upgraded from a 77” CX to a 77” G5 back in December. It took a fair amount of working with the settings to get it looking right. The biggest issue I had was that the white balance was skewed green on the G5 I got and I had to play with the settings a lot, across a variety of content to get everything set up to my satisfaction. After the settings were dialed in, when in the more accurate picture modes, the CX and G5 look very similar until things get very bright. Then the G5 has the clear advantage and provides the extra impact I was hoping for. Here's an example of the two TVs side by side, being fed the same source with a very bright explosion on screen. I have the G5 and S95F and the S95F is just so much better in color and brightness for games, the G5 isn’t even close. I like my G5 for movies though especially in a dark room for the deep black. Then i turn on the g5 and the 8k is about 80% of what the g5 is in terms of contrast/color/sharpness/motion. Also if you shift a foot too far away you lose contrast and brightness but not with the g5. I'm also in a bright living room and during the day the g5 is much better with reflections. I would also reach out to LG from their online chat and see if you can't score an extra discount from them. They are pretty well known to give you at least an extra 10% off, especially if you tell them you're looking at other OLEDs. I would lean more Bravia 8 II, as I love Sony and their picture processing. Plus QD-OLED is just WOW. However, if it's not the Bravia 8 II, then I would probably go with the LG G5 since it's brighter and is overall the better TV than the S90F.

While the LG C5 is slightly brighter in SDR, the QD-OLED panel that Samsung uses is able to display colors more vibrantly and has a much wider color volume. I personally would choose that over a standard WOLED panel. I only leaned more heavily LG because I thought you were getting the G5 which is a lot brighter and the RGB Tandem OLED panel really does expand the color volume more giving the S90F a run for its money.

As in there is a decent amount of difference between the C6 and the G6, but there isn’t much between the G6 and the G5 (and in fact some prefer the G5 over the G6). In case there is no G5 option, for everyday use, if your room is dark in general, the C5 will work well for it, but if it has a lot of light in general, then the G6’s brighter screen will be much more useful.

C1 and C6 looks the same. sometimes I stream of course it's not always possible to wait but good things usually have a disc release. latest show was lioness season 1 and 2 I guess.. reacher was also fun and no issue to wait.. cant really say but I have surely 100shows on disc, incl older stuff like eureka.. maybe I will not wait with the new reacher season.. I just think the difference is in most cases more visible than between oled tvs. I had already a great home theater here with an b7! comming from an good old 1080p pana plasma which was also great at the time

I saw an g5 here and gave it to my parents. no real difference. all this brightness marketing bs every year. of course they want to sell you a new one every year. with oleds from the last years Pic quality is 99% player chain settings and content. it sometimes seems most of the g5/6 marketing victims here are using a soundbar and stream Netflix but trying to get blind while watching in vivid.. I always think, invest in audio that's really making a difference. and if you want better Pic get an 4k player or an ugoos with dv fel for your local remuxes because that's night and day to streaming

You need a scene with high note on small area and rest of the scene being dark, I went from a 83” C1 to G5 recently, scenes where there a small fire lighting up the actors work well to differentiate. Colors also look better in brighter scenes. But still true, Older OLED’s are still an amazing baseline for PQ.

I own 4 OLED’s going back to 2014. They all have different capabilities. In some scenes they can all look completely identical, doesn’t mean anything except OLED’s baseline PQ is amazing. My C1 became a lot better after I calibrated it, I’m waiting for my g5 to get 300/400 hours before I calibrate it and I can see some scenes on it which justify the jump and some scenes which don’t.

C5 based on those options but if you have lots of glare, S95F is better. If you have lots of reflections, G5/G6 is better 3. I'd throw everything out. I have a 77" C3 and 77" G5, and will note that while the reflection handling and brightness on the G series is better (likewise love the 165hz refresh of the G5 for PC gaming) the actual picture quality isn't very different, especially with good light control if price difference is a big concern. Love them both though, favorite displays I've ever owned.

Check the comparison, the blooming of TCL is worse than Bravia 9, and many people on reddit complained about motion handling. I had to turn down HDR brightness of G5 because it’s too bright. The s90f is on par with my LG C5. Yes I have a lot of TVs split between two homes. Left out the Hisense U7 in the office, which is good enough for the office but wouldn’t use for main viewing, though I do like the Google OS.

As much as I want to blame, I also blame DTS license holders. They are as scummy as LG in this regard, probably wanted too much of a slice and we consumers pay the price. I still consider returning the G5, which will be delivered tomorrow to get the G4. :( A very good AVR costs at leadt 600€ and would still cause additional input and audio while gaming on PC. I am just pissed. Worst part is, that DTS is completely gone with built in apps, so you need an additional device to do audio splitting tot he sound system

If I sell the G4 now when I upgrade to the 65-inch G5, I'll probably still get around €950 for it – meaning the upgrade would only cost me about €350-400 in the end.

I will say that I wouldn't worry about the reviews. All of the problems they talked about were fixed. (Not sure about "the DTS issue" other than the fact that they removed it. I don't use DTS, so it sounds like you have done more research on that than I. The picture quality issues have been resolved tho.) Basically if you are familiar with the G4 expect similar here. From the G3-G4, I wouldn't recommend upgrading for brightness alone, but if you want a bigger TV anyway, might as well get all the upgrades you can!

Granted I bought my TV in October, so if those were problems they had at launch(and I read about some of them), I received mine well after they had been ironed out. I think you might actually be “bored” difference wise when you make the switch. Other than possibly turning down the “OLED Pixel Brightness” on SDR content(just because it can get insanely bright even in filmmaker mode!) you probably won’t have to make any new adjustments you aren’t already doing.

r/LGOLED · Should I buy this or save up for a G4/G in December? The B series is the base/entry level model for LG OLEDs. The C series is the midrange and the G series is the flagship. There's also the M series and now they brought back the W series to replace the M series with. Those two are basically the exact same as the G series (so still their flagship OLED), but they're only meant to be wall mounted and come with an external box that houses all of the hdmi, ethernet, optical, usb... etc ports for the TV, along with the processor and all that stuff in order to allow the TV itself to be as thin as possible to be able to sit as thin as possible against your wall. The "W" actually stands for "Wallpaper" in this case, due to the intent of the TV's design. As for the distinction in terms of performance, the B series is very dim in comparison. Talking specifically about the B5, since that's the generation you seem to be looking at here, it doesn't even reach 1000 nits. Just in case you aren't aware, nits is a measurement of brightness, and the industry standard for measuring how bright a TV can get is on a 10% window. So, 10% of the entire surface of the TV panel itself. 1000 nits on this standard is typically the bare minimum requirement to be able to produce an effective HDR image, as every piece of content that is mastered in HDR is mastered at a minimum of 1000 nits. Some are mastered at 4000 nits. Some at 10,000 nits. So, I would not reccomend the B5 if you watch HDR content or if your room has lights on. The C5 gets you a lot more brightness than the B5. The C5 gets nicely above 1000 nits, typically between 1200-1500 nits, and it also has better processing than the B5, as well as a slightly faster panel (144hz). The B5 has a 120hz panel. The G5 is the flagship, so it stands head and shoulders above both of them. Now usually I'd say the flagship is not worth it over the C series unless you have the money to spare, but in this generation, it's the rare case that it's actually worth it and it actually lived up to the hype it generated. The G5 is the first time LG has addressed taking on qd-oleds for color, and while they still haven't quite gotten there just yet, the G5 had closed the gap so much that you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference unless you had them side by side playing the same demo content pushing colors beyond the limits of the TVs themselves. So, for reference, the G5 can reach a staggering 2500 nits (likely even higher now since the last big update actually raised the brightness in almost all the modes quite significantly). It's color volume also far, far exceeds the C5, so colors will look far deeper and much more pure on the G5 in instances where they push beyond the C5's capabilities. The brightness also helps to push those colors to be significantly more vibrant than the C5 is capable of, even when the color volume of the content itself doesn't push beyond the C5's capabilities, when the brightness of those colors goes beyond the brightness of the C5, the C5 will be forced tk shift those colors towards white in order to hit the brightness levels being called for, whereas the G5 will still have a comfortable amount of room until it needs to shift towards white. So, the G5 not only can display significantly more colors than the C5, but it can also display significantly more vibrant and deep colors than the C5. So, my conclusion is this: if you can save for it, get the G5. BUT, don't just look at the G5. I actually would like you to take a look at the C6H of the new generation. This is the C series, but specifically the 77-inch and 83-inch sizes, as this year is the first year LG is putting the G series panel on the C series (again exclusively on the 77-inch and 83-inch sizes only). So, the C6H (the "H" is the designation for the models that have the G series panel on it), has the G6's panel, of which is a more refined version of the G5. Slightly better color volume, better brightness, and more importantly, the newer processor, of which basically eliminates any color banding and posterization issues, of which the G5 still has in some specific scenes. Now, the C6H won't be as bright as the G6, obviously, but it should be a very good chunk of the majority of the G5's brightness. My guess is at least 2000 nits on the C6H. So, if you can save up for at least the 77-inch C6H, then I highly urge you to do that, as that specific oled is, imo, going to be the absolute best oled for the price for this year and likely for the next couple of years. The 77-inch C6H, for reference, shouldn't cost much more than a 77-inch G5. And it could potentially cost less once discounts start to hit it throughout the year. But, if a 77-inch is not the size you're looking for, and you want to go smaller, then absolutely just save for the G5. I'd say G6, but it would be quite a bit more expensive. But, if it is something you could save for then yea, the G6 will be even better, and you'd get a more refined panel and much better processing than the G5. One last thing to note here is that the sizes below 55 inches do not use the same panels. This goes for both the C series and the G series. The sizes below 55 inches are significantly less bright and less colorful than the larger sizes. The C series actually gets less bright than the B series at the smaller sizes. That's how much you lose going less than 55 inches. The same applies for the monstrous 97 inch size of the G series. Although, that's obviously not in the budget anyway, as it's 25k, lol. It's also obviously not worth anywhere near that amount even if you had that kind of money. So, yea, stay away from the B series unless you dont watch much hdr and mainly watch it in a completely dark room. The C series is fantastic, but, I only recommend it to anyone who doesn't watch a ton of hdr content and/doesn't have the money for the G series. I also will be reccomending the C6H over the g series to basically everyone now, as i believe it to be the current best deal oled on the new market. Lastly, the G4 is basically just a slightly brighter C5. It is not worth it anymore. Only look at the G5 or G6 if you can save for those. C5 if you want to budget yourself more. And C6H if you are looking for a 77-inch or 83-inch size and want the best picture quality without having to spend G6 prices. Sorry for the long response, but I hope this helps.

I have the s95f in a room that has more light than the G5 and get no glare without having to black out the room, thought I don''t watch a lot of TV during the day. My son prefers gaming on the Samsungs over the LG. With that having been said, I would buy the G5 again, as it is a really good TV also. I usually tell people to buy whichever is on sale and you will still be happy. The people that complain about either tend to be people whol treat their TVs as though they are professional viewers and not normal watchers. I don't run all the panel test you read about on here. If can't see any problems when watching the TV normally, then there is a problem for me.

r/4kTV · LG G5 or Samsung S95 - For Gaming, Netflix & YouTube This, tried both for 5 days and s95f was so much better for pc and Ps5 gaming. Better motion better day gaming and colors pop more. Netflix and Amazon was watchable during sunlight in the room. G5 has great picture in dark room, better menu and better built quality than Samsung and that's about it. I couldn't stand watching Netflix during the day, dark scenes was so much annoying squeezing my eyes to see past the mirror. Gaming was also good in dark room but the motion was worse, when playing Ps5 games at 30 FPS it was like there where 2 frames at the same time where as in s95f this effect was way way less, pc gaming above 100 fps was great on both in dark room, maybe the mate coating helps mitigate that double image effect, what ever it is it's a lot better on s95f at low fps. Both tvs great but Samsung is better between those 2, especially in gaming.

I find QD Oled's colors better for my dark room use case and it's also the more durable panel type. Delamination gets all Woleds eventually. Also I can get Dolby Vision working with CoreElec the same way it would work with the LG. I don't watch streaming, only uhd bluray remuxes.

r/LGOLED · C5, C6 or G series? (CX replacement) Im also still on 48" CX with my home PC. Plan to upgrade next year. C5 and C6 are quite close. Would not pay extra for C6, if you can still get C5. G6 (and G5) have the quad layer panel and it makes a really big difference. Worth paying, if you can afford the extra price. (I have in my living room 65" Philips OLED910 from last year with same LG panel as the G5 and its absolutely brilliant).

r/OLED_Gaming · Samsung S95h VS LG oled G6: how much better is the S95 for gaming exactly? I am in kinda same boat. I have my 77" G4 and its still amazing with MLA gen2, 1,500 nits peak. I know G5 is 30% and now G6 is like 50% more brighter, but would like to try a 77" S95H to check the reality of color volume etc, especially during gaming in PC HDR. The S95H is currently now on sale for 3k dollars. My problem is how much should I sell my G4 for and how to make people buy it. In my country some are listing the TV for 1.9k/2k dollars, nit many of them. I can go lower to sell it, question is, is it really worth it now or wait for 240hz, 4000 nits capable OLEDs? I think we are already pushing the limits in terms of brightness of OLEDs in general, so some new tech may come by in just 4 years, making everything else obsolete.

r/OLED_Gaming · LG C6 48 (Tandem WOLED) Review The main differences with 48 G5 are that the C6 has 13-bit processing, which gives it slightly smoother gradients and eliminates the diagonal dithering lines (although I can't see them on my G5 unless I put my nose right up to the screen). For some reason, though, VRR flicker seems to be much worse on the C6 than it is on the G5 or any previous LG OLED models. There are also several 48" C6 owners in this subreddit who have been complaining about worse VRR flicker as well.

I wonder if they changed something in the G6. \>I'll be eagerly waiting for the 4k 360hz TB600 qd oleds early next year as my next upgrade path. That doesn't change anything about VRR flicker. If anything, it might even make it worse. My 321URX QD-OLED has much more noticeable VRR flicker than my G5 in the same games. Esp in dark games like silent hill

r/LGOLED · LG G5 vs G6. Is $600 price difference worth it? I am upgrading from the C1, and have decided to settle on the G6 55/65(haven’t decided the size yet). My reasoning is that the G6 solves the diagonal dithering over the G5, and I upgrade TVs only every 5 years, so might as well get the G6. Whether the dithering solution is worth it to you at extra 600$ is upto you. Most people don’t notice the dither unless they’re looking for problems or sit too close. I belong to the former, so the extra 600 is worth it for my peace of mind.

r/LGOLED · 77” LG C5 or 65” LG G5 I have both a C9, C5 and G5, what part exactly do you find overpowering? You can tune pretty much everything to your liking. If it's brightness in SDR, just turn down/off "peak brightness", and/or "oled pixel brightness". In HDR "dynamic tone mapping" can indeed feel overpowering, but you can switch that off aswell.

I have noticed that across different apps and I have seen some discussion here and other places about this issue. I don’t want an 3rd party piece of hardware (like Apple TV) to be the solution for this. A top TV range like this should be working as expected.

Supposedly the G5 got better reflection handling I also still got the C9 (which imo also is alot better than the QN90B), and while the G5 is an upgrade im still amazed by it. So i cant imagine there's that much difference between the c5 and g5.

r/LGOLED · One week with the lg g5 55" Nice, i’d leave yourself a few days before changing a ton, because the G5 already looks strong out of the box. What helped me before was setting each input separately, then using Filmmaker Mode or Cinema for movies and Game Optimizer for consoles. I’d turn off most motion smoothing unless you actually like the soap opera look, and keep energy saving disabled if the image seems dim. For HDR gaming, HGIG is usually the cleaner starting point if the console calibration is set correctly. The big thing is to change one setting at a time so you know what actually improved the picture.

I had a similar bright-window setup, and better shades changed the TV choice a lot. Since you prefer a stand, price the stand situation too, because the G series is less convenient there than the C series.

A me e capitato qualcosa di simile con un pannello nuovo, e la cosa utile e stata fare foto su schermate uniformi grigie, verdi e blu, poi controllare anche con contenuti reali. Se la linea resta nello stesso punto su app interne, HDMI diversi e test pattern, sembra piu un problema di pannello che di sorgente. Io contatterei subito il negozio e LG, ma punterei prima al cambio o reso finche sei dentro la finestra. Eviterei di aspettare cicli di compensazione se la linea e gia visibile su sfondi semplici.

However, from your description of your space, an OLED will be ideal since brightness won’t be a big issue (even now though high end OLED tvs can get super bright. If burn-in is a big concern then consider a couple things - how often do you upgrade your tv? If it’s every 3-5 years then I wouldn’t worry. Secondly how wide is your seating arrangement? Personally I find blooming high end minileds almost non-existent when watching dead-on or even at some decent angles these days (I find the new TCL C8L or whatever NA call it to be particularly impressive in this regard). There are other things to consider like pixel response time being far superior on an OLED and I saw someone else mention VRR flicker, so maybe do some homework in that regard. Current recommendations would be Samsung s90f/s95f (depending on which panel your region has for s90f based on the size you’re looking at getting, if the size you want has a woled I’d just get a c5), lg c5 (or g5 since it has a heat sink which should help a bit with burn-in concerns) TCL c8L or c8k if you can get a good price, and maybe Hisense u8q. Sony tvs for me have been great for watching content and casual gaming but lack more than 2 hdmi 2.1 ports even in their newest tvs so if you play more than 1 platform it might get annoying switching hdmi cables around.

The larger 77" and 83" TV's (named C6H in most countries) have the upgraded Tandem OLED panels which are included with G5, and G6 models. In terms of overall performance these sit very slighty behind the equivalent G5, but are a noticeable improvement in brightness and color reproduction over C5 and C6 (non H models).

For Netflix etc you do see the much more improved performance. I have my G5s on order so can’t comment on that and hopefully soon. But if you have g5 money do it!

Sounds like for you, the G6 wins. G5 is a lot cheaper though and not much of a downgrade. C5 is also fantastic value if you don’t need the extra brightness and glare resistance.

Not sure where you are coming from but I have a G5 and an S95F and the latter wins hands down especially on PC titles. It also reaches 4000 nits modded (same as 9ii) although the 9ii will have better gamut coverage. It seems that you won't calibrate your TVs anyway, so TCL X11L may also be a good choice if you value brightness more than color accuracy. I have sent you the suggested settings for S95F privately (since the modder does not want it to be shared publicly), but if you are dead set to use the RGB LEDs I think you can't go wrong with 7ii or 9ii. With the 7ii the brightness (which is the main advantage of LED) is even lower than stock S95F though.

r/LGOLED · Upgraded from a LG C1 48” to LG G4 65” The G4 is awesome and so is the C4, so was the CX, C1, C3 etc. But when measuring peak brightness on the industry standard 10% window, the C4 hit 1000 nits, the G4 hit 1500 nits and the G5 hit 2400 nits. Not saying anything bad about any of them, they're all great, but the difference in brightness is clear as day when you include the G5. The difference has always been incremental year on year and between the C series and G series but the leap in brightness is no joke on the four stack MLA panels. I recently got myself one of these four stack OLEDs (not the G5) and was coming from a standard W-OLED panel, and the brightness difference is just off the charts, it's been far more than I expected.

Moving the lounge is not an option as it’s huge and fairly locked in to its position. Waiting for the CH6 vs G5 reviews, but will most likely wait for a discounted CH6 as it seems similar to the G5 but will be cheaper.

r/LGOLED · LG G4 worth over G5, if I want DTS for 1/4 of the usecase? I have or well had two LG OLED's, one that supports DTS (the C3 that died) and one that doesn't. I'm able to use a FireTV cube to my sound bar that then passes video to the DTSless TV so that audio doesn't even touch it. That works just fine but it requires an external media player as well as a sound bar that supports both HDMI in AND HDMI ARC/eARC ports. It's an annoyance since I've ripped my entire bluray collection to a personal media server, there's a lot of original DTS-HD MA tracks in there. And even though my basic soundbar can only process the base DTS 1,500Kbps layer, it sounds MUCH better than anything Plex/Jellyfin transcodes that DTS track into. Still not sure what I'll get but it seems getting a G4 at this point in 2026 isn't going to be easy. I'm tempted to get a larger TCL mini led TV as my replacement since they support everything but I may end up settling with a G5 and purchase a suitable soundbar + external media player to get around the utterly disappointing cheapness of LG... I'm also rather annoyed with LG for only supporting static HDR but not the dynamic HDR10+ however that's a whole other matter. But at least that one would be free to implement.

In my opinion get the TV for the most use you'll get out of it If you're only using it for 1/4 of the time I would recommend the G5. Sure you're losing a little bit of DTS usage but you're getting the absolute best picture quality in everything else for all the use cases of everything else so that's my recommendation.

Tho there has been some rough software problems with LGs hdr10+ and gaming performance. I don't know if they are fixed, but they should keep there reviews updated. I went s90d qd-oled version when I was choosing. I liked the brightness and color volume/saturation. People are saying samsung processing is bad. Yes LG is a bit better, but not that much. The raised black is not really that big of a problem, especially when you can control the light. I would recommend going to a store that will allow you to try them out.

I actually wanted to go for S90F 65 at 2000CAD, but went with qm8k 65 at 1399 for my living room. Yes OLED is amazing but only if the room has controlled lighting. I'm extremely satisfied with TCL, I don't have to close blinds or turn off lights. You'll notice the pop no matter. I am not picky about color tones, tone mapping, pq eotf.. my Qd-oled monitor looks way better in this scenario. If you pick one you get one and loose one. I figured brightness is key for living room. May be latest lg G6 or last year G5 would work for you but didn't in my living room tried G5. Also they cost double if not more than qm8k which I thought wasn't a good buy for me.

Because it’s a Woled that gets insanely bright, the white subpixel causes low luminance anomalies such as heavy chrominance overshoot an to mitigate that, the dithering algorithm has been cranked to full blast causing heavy grain and fuzziness as a side effect.
