r/AirPurifiers · air purifier available on Amazon that can really handle smoke

Per [AHAM's recommendations on wildfire smoke](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/), particulate Smoke Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) should equal a room's area at minimum. So a 196 sq. ft. room with an 8 ft. ceiling needs a Smoke CADR of 196 CFM or greater. If your ceiling is higher than 8 ft., calculate by volume first. As a hypothetical example: 14 ft. × 14 ft. × 12 ft. = 2,352 cubic feet. 2,352 cu. ft. ÷ 8 ft. = 294 sq. ft. as the "adjusted" purifier coverage area. Therefore in this room/space you'd need a Smoke CADR of 294 CFM or more. The recommendations below are conventional HEPA or HEPA-type models. If you don't care about filter costs, have a look at the **Winix 5510**, **Winix 5520**, or **Winix 5530**. The top Smoke CADR is 253 CFM for each model. (Additionally, all of these models have PlasmaWave, an optional bipolar ionizer. Keep this *off* if you have birds as it could harm or kill them. PlasmaWave defaults to being enabled after a power off/power on cycle.) **Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH** is very good. It also uses an ionizer, so the same warning about birds applies. Top Smoke CADR is 234 CFM. You may also want to have a look at the **Levoit Vital 200S-P**. Top Smoke CADR is 250 CFM. It does *not* have an ionizer. If you're willing to spend $240, see the **Winix 9800**. Top Smoke CADR is 323 CFM. Like the other Winix models, it has the PlasmaWave ionizer. Keep in mind the Smoke CADRs I've listed apply to the highest airflow speed/setting *only*. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness. Unfortunately these lower CADRs aren't listed by many purifier brands. And lastly, these purifiers probably won't handle gases/vapors/odors/VOCs from wildfire smoke well. This is because they have very little activated carbon by weight. Many pounds of activated carbon or other sorbent media are needed for wildfire smoke gases/vapors/odors/VOCs.

r/AirPurifiers · Prime Day - Coway AirMega vs Winix 5500 vs Levoit Vital 200s

Per the [AHAM 2/3 rule](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/), you need a bare minimum of 367 CFM Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs). But CADRs should be even higher if you're close to roadway traffic. Only one of these purifiers would not be enough. In other words, you would need 3 Coway Airmega 150 units **or** 2 Levoit Vital 200S units **or** 2 Winix 5500-2 units for minimum CADRs. Coway has the best quality of the three brands. They also tend to be more expensive and quieter. I don't know your budget. You could consider buying the [Coway Airmega 240](https://cowaymega.ca/products/airmega-240?variant=40263676592170) (if you like the grill design) and the [Coway Airmega 150](https://cowaymega.ca/products/airmega-150?variant=40203229888554), yielding a combined Smoke CADR of 435 CFM. Then use the codes **COWAYMEGA10** for an extra 10% off both models in your cart. Once the discount is applied, the subtotal would be $553.50 before taxes. Or you could buy 2 [Levoit Vital 200S](https://www.amazon.ca/Purifiers-Bedroom-Powerfully-Allergies-Coverage/dp/B0BGPF71Q6/?th=1) units from [Amazon.ca](http://Amazon.ca) with a combined Smoke CADR of 500 CFM. Total would be $350.98 CAD (before taxes?). Also double check the price of replacement filters from Coway and Levoit to see if those are acceptable to you. NB: listed CADRs apply to the highest airflow/speed setting only. Lower settings will have lower CADRs, which means reduced cleaning performance.

    r/AirPurifiers · Winix 5500-2 vs Levoit Vital 200S vs Coway Airmega AP-1512HH

I would go with the [Winix C909 from Costco Canada](https://www.costco.ca/winix-c909-4-stage-air-purifier-with-wifi-and-plasmawave-technology.product.4000257649.html). Top Smoke CADR is 323 CFM. Likely not a problem in a nail salon, but... the C909 has PlasmaWave, an optional bipolar ionizer.  Keep this *off* if birds are present as it could harm or kill them. (NB: PlasmaWave defaults to being enabled after a power off/power on cycle.) Per the [AHAM 2/3 rule](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/), a 350 sq. ft. room (with an 8 ft. ceiling) needs minimum Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) of 234 CFM. The Winix 5500-2 and [Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH](https://cowaymega.com/products/mighty-ap-1512hh) barely meet Smoke CADR on the highest airflow speed. The [Levoit Vital 200S-P](https://levoit.com/products/vital-200s-p-smart-air-purifier) is better. The Winix 5500-2 has been discontinued in the USA. Not sure how much longer it will be sold in Canada although replacement filters will be available for years to come. Keep in mind the CADRs listed for purifiers apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness.

It's highly difficult to find a purifier that handles particulates (like <10 microns "dust" particles, mold, pollen, smoke particles) *and* gases/vapors/odors/VOCs. You need many pounds of activated carbon or other sorbent media for gases/vapors/odors/VOCs. Most common and cheaper brands have very little sorbent media by weight. Additionally, purifiers aren't good at reducing *visible* dust particles as they're large and heavy compared to "invisible" pollutants like PM2.5. [Visible dust is best tackled by source control, maintenance, and ventilation](https://www.reddit.com/r/AirPurifiers/wiki/index/faqs/#wiki_what_else_can_i_do_to_reduce_dust.3F). Generally Coway is one of the best quality consumer-grade brands for particulates. No mention of a budget, so I don't know how much you'd like to spend. The [Coway Airmega 400 in White](https://www.amazon.com/Coway-Airmega-Purifier-sq-ft-White/dp/B01C9RIACG/?th=1) is deeply discounted right now. (Full price is $649.) It's oversized for a 144 sq. ft. room, but this allows you to use lower & quieter airflow speeds with good air cleaning. The [400's replacement filter set](https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-400-max2-filter-set) are more expensive because of dual air intakes and because it's Coway. A cheaper option would be the [Levoit Vital 200S-P](https://www.amazon.com/LEVOIT-Purifiers-Washable-Filters-Quality/dp/B0BGPF71Q6/?th=1) which is still oversized in terms of Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs). Quality isn't as good as the Coway Airmega 400 in all likelihood; Levoit has a 2 year warranty. The replacement filter is more affordable. There's also the [Winix C909 sold at Costco](https://www.costco.com/p/-/winix-c909-4-stage-air-purifier-with-wi-fi-plasmawave-technology/100842491) which is excellent value for a HEPA purifier and its CADRs.\* \*Has PlasmaWave, an optional bipolar ionizer. Keep this *off* if you have pet birds as it could harm or kill them. (NB: PlasmaWave defaults to being enabled after a power off/power on cycle.)

r/AirPurifiers · looking to get an air purifier for the sake of my cat's health

See the AutoModerator comment. Purifiers aren't good at reducing *visible* dust particles as they're large and heavy compared to "invisible" pollutants like PM2.5. Per the AHAM 2/3 rule, a 2,250 cubic feet space, you need minimum Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) of 188 CFM. Most common air purifiers (e.g., Winix, Levoit, Coway, Medify Air, Smart Air, Honeywell, etc.) have little activated carbon or other sorbent media by weight for gases/vapors/odors/VOCs. These purifiers are designed for particulates capture instead. For this reason, it's a good idea to have one purifier for particulates and one for gases/vapors/odors/VOCs. (Obviously this may not be feasible at the moment given your budget.) **I would buy the particulates purifier first and see how that performs.** For particulates, a good choice would be the [Levoit Vital 200S-P](https://levoit.com/products/vital-200s-p-smart-air-purifier). The Winix 5520 is good, but the replacement filters tend to be expensive. At the VeSync Store, you can buy the [Levoit Vital 200S-P](https://us.vesync.com/product-detail/levoit-vital-200s-p-smart-air-purifier-560) and use the discount code **WELCOME10** for 10% off. Additionally, they sell [its replacement filters in a single or multipacks](https://us.vesync.com/product-detail/levoit-vital-200s-p-replacement-filter-561) with a filter subscription program. Keep in mind the CADRs listed for purifiers apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness. The "budget" choice for gases/vapors/odors/VOCs would be the [Oransi TrueCarbon 150C](https://oransi.com/products/truecarbon-150c-air-purifier). It has 3.2 lbs. of potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) impregnated activated carbon. The TrueCarbon line has no particulates filtration as far as I know, so you'd need something like a Winix or Levoit to cut down on particles first. The TrueCarbon 150C is on sale currently for $279.87. There is a 15% off pop-up; I don't know if this works on a discounted product.

r/AirPurifiers · Best Air Purifier Option for Someone with a small room who has bad allergies, sinus problems, and is exposed to tobacco smoke? Winix vs Levoit

Assuming similar build quality, higher CADRs are always better. Of the choices listed, I would tend to go with the [Winix A230](https://www.winixamerica.com/product/a230/). The A230 has PlasmaWave, an optional bipolar ionizer. Keep PlasmaWave off if birds are present as it could harm or kill them. (PlasmaWave defaults to being enabled after a power off/power on cycle.) If at all possible, I would choose a model with a separate permanent pre-filter like the Levoit Vital 100S-P or Levoit Vital 200S-P. Keep in mind the CADRs listed for purifiers apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness. Walmart has the [Vital 100S-P on sale for $109.99](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Levoit-Air-Purifier-Vital-100S-1110-sq-ft/1693395330).

r/AirPurifiers · Best Value Air Purifier? (Coway, Winix, Blueair, Shark, Sans, etc)

Because your ceilings are higher than 8 ft., we need to calculate by volume first and then divide by 8 for the "adjusted" purifier coverage rating. The bedroom has an adjusted purifier coverage rating of 437.5 sq. ft. Minimum CADRs would be 292 CFM. Not sure how big your living room is, as you didn't list its dimensions. Let's just say it's 450 sq. ft. with a 10 ft. ceiling. Adjusted purifier coverage rating is 562.5 sq. ft. Minimum CADRs needed are 375 CFM. I normally recommend Coway. The bigger units ([Coway Airmega 400](https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-400) and [Coway Airmega ProX](https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-prox)) are currently not on sale directly from Coway. And I definitely *don't* recommend buying either model at full price. Both the [Airmega 400](https://www.sylvane.com/products/coway-airmega-400-air-purifier) and [Airmega ProX](https://www.sylvane.com/products/coway-airmega-pro-x-large-space-air-purifier) are cheaper at Sylvane for the moment. **Alternatives** * Bedroom: [Levoit EverestAir-P](https://us.vesync.com/product-detail/levoit-everestair-p-smart-air-purifier-525) (from the VeSync Store) * Living Room: [Levoit EverestAir-P](https://us.vesync.com/product-detail/levoit-everestair-p-smart-air-purifier-525) \+ [Levoit Vital 200S-P](https://us.vesync.com/product-detail/levoit-vital-200s-p-smart-air-purifier-560) The EverestAir-P has a top Smoke CADR of 354 CFM. So if your living room is roughly the equivalent of 562.5 sq. ft. or larger, you would need the Vital 200S-P to meet minimum CADRs.

r/AirPurifiers · Can someone help me decide between these two purifiers please?

Levoit: 90CFM Winix (smoke/dust/pollen)**:** 232/243/246 So you're definitely getting a much stronger purifier with the Winix. If you're concerned about longevity, you can always go with the 5520/5510 (which is just their new version of the sorta-same machine). However, I don't know what the cost differential would be in England. A closer comparison (in terms of power) would be the "Levoit Vital 200s." Which I don't know why Levoit went with this naming, because it's so confusing. But that model has a CADR of 250 CFM. Again, apologies I don't know the pricing for England. IMO, it's a bit of a toss-up and I don't think you can go wrong. I'd personally prioritize power/CADR over smartphone functionality, mostly because I found auto good enough throughout the day, unless I need to cook dinner. Monitoring is nice, but I just don't see myself doing too much with the data itself. My personal order of importance: 1. Budget 2. Power 3. Reputation / quality of company (will they answer support tickets, warranty, etc.) 4. Aesthetics / Size (does it fit in my apartment and is it not an eye sore) 5. Bells and whistles

r/AirQuality · I need the BEST air purifier out there pls!

You’re looking at this all wrong. I don’t want to cast aspersions on the website you were looking at but let me talk about a couple things. 1. No unit under $700 has much carbon so don’t worry about that. If you’d like a LITTLE carbon then Winix 5510, Coway 150/250 and Levoit Vital 100/200 are great options. 2. The Winix 5510 being “worse” than the 5500-2 is absolutely true. But the 5500-2 was the ABSOLUTE BEST in its class and price point, so that’s a high bar. The 5510 is a fine unit. 3. Blue Air units (except their pro line) generally aren’t HEPA, in fact almost zero round units are, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t great units. I recommend BlueAir highly. My kids all use them exclusively. Just size it accordingly and keep the sock pre-filter clean. 4. Reddit sentiment analysis includes subreddits other than this one and is garbage. In here we have a recommendation list and it’s pretty consistent.

So you're focusing on the wrong things. Almost all units we recommend are H13 rated. Coway, Winix, even Levoit Vital. And third-party testing is ... not super relevant at this price point. You want a Coway 250 or Levoit Vital 200 for the upstairs and a Coway 1512 or Coway 150 or Winix 5510 or Levoit Vital 100 for the downstairs.

r/AirPurifiers · Multiple Levoit Vital 200S for 100 sqm condo?

So you're forgetting that you just need to leave them running. Three units seems about right for this area, but you might want to consider instead getting two larger units like a bigger Coway, but it's not clear to me what brands are readily available in Korea so the 3x Vital 200 might just end up being your best bet.

r/AirPurifiers · Prime Day - Coway AirMega vs Winix 5500 vs Levoit Vital 200s

None of those will work well in a space that large. The Vital 200s and Winix 5500-2 work best in about 360 square feet. (Probably a smaller space since most people won’t run it on the highest and loudest setting 24/7) I’d look into the Levoit Core 600s. The Smart Air Blast Mini could also work well but I know it’s a pricy device. Clean Air Kits Tower of Power is another option.

Most air purifiers won't do a ton for odors. You'll need a lot of pelleted carbon. Two budget friendly (compared to models with more carbon) air purifiers that could \*help with the stale odor: Winix 5510 or the Levoit Vital 200s. Either one could work in the bedroom. The Facebook marketplace ad is a good deal financially but neither of those will help with odors. I had the ap-1512hh and it did nothing for odors. I was better off opening my windows. Coway is a good brand IMO. It's just knowing if their devices work for your particular needs or preferences. Consider checking out HouseFresh.com for unbiased reviews on air purifiers.

The Vital is more appropriate for 350-375 square feet. It could be placed in a room over 1,000 SQ feet but it would take quite a while to reduce particulate matter, allergens, etc. Some independent testing resources: https://housefresh.com/levoit-vital-200s-review/ https://www.energystar.gov/productfinder/product/certified-room-air-cleaners/details/2405381 https://www.airpurifierfirst.com/review/levoit-vital-200s/ Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers has a directory with a Vital 200 rating: https://www.ahamdir.com/room-air-cleaners/

r/AirPurifiers · Did levoit fix their vital filters? Any recomendations for a serious air filter-purifier?

    1) don’t worry about the filter thing, Levoit is a fine option 2) as others have said using respirator masks more often will do more than purifiers 3) for $450 dollars, I would consider getting two units like the Levoit Viral 200S. There are other filters I like better but they are not as sturdy for moving around and are slightly harder to manage. r/AirPurifiers · Best air Purifier that’s not crazy expensive

Pretty much every brand is not HEPA in that regard, as it's a problem in the industry with most units seemingly meeting the threshold on low, but not on a higher setting for instance.  So multiple top brands have all been sued for the same technicality like Winix, Levoit, Alen etc etc. And Coway hasn't been sued yet but was found to have the same problem.  That's pretty much a majority of the top selling units all having the same issue, as it's more a technicality, not a problem for the user.  As in if it does 99.6% instead of 99.7% on high for instance you are still getting very clean air.  If it's off by a fraction...it is ultimately unimportant.  As we know Levoits clean the air very well based on recent testing.  All of the top 3 brands in recent testing...all have either been sued or been found to have the same issue.  So its ultimately not very important to the user, and more a marketing issue within the whole industry.  The only brand that might pass on all is Dyson, as their units are known for being quiet but slower.  So they don't even move the air fast enough to have that problem...so the Levoit actually cleaned more air per dollar spent...than the Dyson itself.  (If you have 99.6,% but at more power you will clean more air than 99.7% at lower power.).  The difference is like one dozen  particles out of 10,000.  You will still have very clean air with a Levoit, Winix, or Coway, often times...even more so than with something that officially meets the HEPA 13 standard.  So I wouldn't worry about that.  Levoits are excellent at cleaning the air of particles.  Here is recent testing proving it, and the guy even chose Levoit as the best performing units of its size, (with the top units being Winix, Levoit, Coway, and Dyson.)  So do not worry about the HEPA 13 thing, as when it's a good brand off by a fraction....it is still complete fine, and very well may be outperforming the slower H13 unit.  (The Remaining dozen or so particles will get picked up on the 2nd pass, so no big deal.  But good marketing attempts by Dyson to try to paint other brands as worse or inferior etc.)  https://youtu.be/sQGfO4hNb60?si=PBIDWaqVZUkP1uX7 I think at around the 20:54 mark he shows the results with the chart.   As to your Q I think you are saying you want to spend under 130 per unit ?  And you will need to spend a bit more than that but Levoits are a very affordable, but great value for that you get. So the Vital 200s is 160ish, so that will be good for a bedroom/normal sized room. Bur for a living room, and given all the pets, you will probably want the Core 600, which is a whopping 390CFM for 250ish.   Another budget friendly idea is CR Boxes/Corsi Rosenthal boxes ..which can get you 400 range CFM...for only 90ish bucks or so.  As it's a DIY purifier with a 30 dollar box fan...and a set of 4 merv 13 filters taped around it into a cube/square.  That gets you more CFM power than any purifier under 400ish bucks or so.  (Even more than some that are 1,000 dollars.)  So if budget an issue you could get a Vital 200s in living room + pair with a CR Box in living room which would get you a huge 650 CFM on high.  (Compared to 390 from the Core 600 itself.). But idk how big your space is so that would be needed to better judge what sizes you need.  But CR boxes at 400 CFM can cover pretty much any room very well.   So something like a Core 600 in living room (or CR Box) , a Vital 200 in bedroom, and a CR box in office, something like that would likely get you excellent coverage at a good price.  You don't really need one in a bathroom, and it's not a great place for them as you can't get them wet.  (But OK if you can keep it from getting wet, in which case a small 50 dollar one is OK, like a Levoit Mini, but again, I don't think needed imo, if you have proper coverage elsewhere.)

You need a larger size unit than those, for excellent air quality.  For 10ish bucks more you can get tht Levoit Vital 200s.  I would suggest that as the minimum size for your space.  (Rated for 1,800 feet.)  Since allergies you will want excellent coverage...not just the minimum, which is what those smaller units would be.  Winix is a great brand, but same thing you would like need a size up and they sell units at same sizes + price points as Levoit so they also have a good unit rated for around 1,800 feet.  So your sg footage is about 252 with estimating the middle of 10-12 ft cielings (11ft i put).  For 4.8 air changes (good air quality) you need 221CFM.  For excellent (6ach) you need 277.  A Levoit Vital 200s does 250CFM and is rated for 1,800ish feet. Meaning it will change the air in a 252sq. Ft space about 6-7 times which is excellent ( while on high though.  On medium will be half that, and low mode about 1/3 or 1/4.). So the Vital 200sp or any Winix rated for around the same 1,800ish feet ..would be the minimum I would recommend, for the unit to give you excellent/newer excellent air quality when running on high.  Those smaller units would be struggling get you to "good", even on high.  And would be far below that not on high.   You may even want to consider even bigger such as a Levoit Core 600 which does 390CFM for around 250-280 dollars.  Or get one that size for your living room later.  (3,000 ft coverage.). But get units rated for at least 1,800 or so for that bedroom.  Winix or Levoit both great, but you need one size up for good to excellent coverage.

r/AirPurifiers · Seeking advice on placement of Levoit Vital 200S-P placement in open-concept apartment living area

Maybe there is less air flow in that area ?   So try switch the levoit with a mila that you feel catches a lot, and see if difference.   Also take Molas are way more  expensive + powerful units, so it would be expected that a 400 dollar 447 CFM pulls in more than a 250 180 dollar unit, yes ?   Even the mila mini is stronger + 100 dollars more expensive at 290 CFM/280 dollars.  Blue Airs use ionization so that might help a smaller blue air trap visible hairs.   But Levoits are great units, and perform excellently in recent testing.  In terms of hairs idk, maybe there is something to that. But purifiers aren't really mens to be capturing hairs anyway so a much...as it's all the small things you can't even see.  And Levoits  perform very well there.  But like I said, perhaps you have less airflow in that corner of your living room or something ?  You'd prob want a stronger mila in that larger space anyway imo.    Lastly, I think the circular Levoits are stronger pound for pound,  thus the Core 300 outperforming the Levoit Vital 100 in recent testing despite costing 30 bucks less.  And outperforming lots of units similarly sized.  The Vital line does have the larger filter which is  astrong point, but I don't think rectangle leads to better performance per se.  (Again the Levoit 300 outperformed some pricier units on smoke too, maybe something to do with the circular design ? Idk)   For Levoits there is a Core 400 + Core 600 that are stronger than the Vital 200.  Those are great units too though, with maybe the slightly bigger filters.   Anyway, I suggest moving some units around and see how it goes....great job on your overall coverage too.

    r/AirPurifiers · Winix 5500-2 vs Levoit 300s UK

Levoit Core 300 are excellent units....as I have two of them running near continuously...for 5+6 years now.  Although you are comparing a smaller 90 dollar Levoit to a bigger more expensive Winix.  The Winix is twice the price or so, so more powerful (250CFM range) and I think 13 or 14 pounds.  The Levoit is about half the size, and half the cost, but still gives 155CFM. (So for the same cost 2x of those Levoits would give 310CFM power.) Point is a better comparison is an equal sized Levoit to an equal sized Winix.  As an equal size/price Levoit would be the Levoit Vital 200s.  Which does the same 250CFM as the Winnix. Both are great for that price point.  Both have air quality monitor I think, and Levoits have great choice of filter types.  The main difference really would be aesthetics, and that the Winnix has an ionizer that I think you can toggle on/off.  As well with Winnix you can spend 20-30 more for 2-3 year warranty.  However Levoits are great quality and last years...although it officially has 1 year warranty.  (Maybe the Winnix breaks after 3 years ?  Idk,  but my two Levoit Core 300s have been running near continuously...for 5+6 years now... So id the two units you show, the bigger more expensive units better (mostly - even though as shown you can get more CFM for same cost with two of the smaller Levoits.). So if you only have access to those units, get the Winix as it's more powerful. However a Levoit Vital 200 will perform about the same a a Winix as that's same size, so that's another good option.  ( I think it has smart features too, not sure if the Winix does.). They are both great.  Just choose which features you like more.  (If between a Winix and Vital 200)

r/AirPurifiers · Did levoit fix their vital filters? Any recomendations for a serious air filter-purifier?

Levoits are great.  They are hepa 13 filters, and HEPA 13 on low/sleep mode, like most of the best units. It performs in the top 3 in recent testing with Winix + Coway.  (Beating Coway in some metrics and the guy picked the Levoit as the best of its size.). Point is all 3 of the best performing purifiers on the test are not "true Hepa" due to the same technicality.  Winix has also been sued, and Coway has the same problem and is trying to change its marketing before it gets sued as well.  So many units that move a lot of air...might dip down to Hepa 12, by a fraction on settings 2 or 3.   But it's not a big deal for the consumer as Hepa 12 is still really good, at 99.5%.  The difference between 99.7 and 99.5 is a few dozen particles out of 10,000.  Its more a marketing thing, that effects the whole industry,  not just Levoit. You will still have really clean air with a Levoit.  As it's one of the best in the market for cleaning the air.  One of the only units that doesn't have that problem is Dyson, as their units are like 1,000 dollars but go so slow that they don't even move much air.  So their units don't even go fast enough to have that problem.  But you ultimately get cleaner air with the unit at 99.5 or 99.6 with more power...than a slower unit at 99.7.   With that said, as someone else suggesting, masking with an N95 mask for all parties will make much more of a difference.  As I dont think you need to spend a lot on a medical grade/HEPA 13 filter or HEPA 14, if people are not wearing masks as they would be breathing in virus particles anyway.  So what I do is I always wear an N95 mask, and have a bunch of air purifiers as well.  (I even have a helmet thing called an Air Climate 3, such as holidays if someone shows up sick which happened to me last Christmas...so I was prepared.) But you don't need a whole helmet thing.  Just a properly sealed N95 + Levoit or any well performing air purifiers will be a good amount of protection.  ( As well as opening windows for ventilation, ventilation also very important.  Running bathroom exhaust fan can help with that, as that expels "old" air  and fans and box fans near a window cha help bring in new air, as well as move the air along on various places.). Air purifiers have smallish fans inside so that will help with that, but a simple box fan and N95 masking + ventilation...will do most of the work probably. And multiple purifiers to get any residual.   (It's best to have 1 unit in each room, when you have enough coverage for the whole space...then you would need her to carry around a unit.  The whole space will be covered.  I have 8x units in a large bedroom apartment for instance for 8ach, extreme coverage.  A small unit near them is a good idea too, but portable units aren't very powerful.  So better to have bigger statuonary units in each room.  Giving you full coverage all the time.  So Winix, Levoit, Coway all good.   All of them are not h13 on high.  But that's not a big deal.  As they will still capture virus particles and still get 99%+ of particles overall likely.  Wearing an N95 mask + ventilation will take care of anything missed.   For big units a Levoit Core 300 is a good value for main room, and then put something like the Vital 200 in her bedroom.  (And a small unit in each bedroom/room best.).  You want 4.8 air changes per hour for good air quality and 6+ for excellent.  So you will want excellent for virus control.  So if a unit says it covers 3,000 feet, like the Core 600, that means it will give you 6 air changes (excellent 6ach) in a space of 500 sq feet. (The size of many living rooms.). The Levoit Vital 200s, is 1,800 so likewise will give 6x in a space of 300 sq feet, which is great for a bedroom size.  Or any same sized Winix or Coway.  All are good.   Most important is N95 masks, properly sealed.  (Like a 3M Aura, that fits really well around the nose.). That is like a filter...for your face.  And then purifiers in each room, but you will need more than 1 for proper coverage.  And probably 2-3.  (As well as ventilation + masking when a person comes imo.)  So if you get enough purifier coverage you might not need to wear masks at home all the time, only when person comes and open windows.  What size is your space ?  What is your budget ?

r/BuyItForLife · Best air purifier for dog owners? Need real-world opinions

Levoit Vital 200-SP with the pet-specific filter. You want a filter with a large mass of activated carbon to bind to the pet odors, pellets of carbon are better than coated fiber mats, prefilters are a must, and the HEPA part of the filter does nothing for smells. Also more units spread around the room, even at slower speeds, will be more effective than one unit at a higher speed (which is also more annoying to listen to).

r/AirPurifiers · Thinking about buying Levoit Vital 100S, some question

The problem is at 161 sqft, your room is not small. The vital 200s would be a better choice for that space. Please read the stickied thread in this sub about dust so that you go into this with the correct expectations. You also shouldn’t expect it to get rid of cooking odors. Even with a carbon insert, that’s not gonna work. It will help, but it will not get rid of them. You need ventilation for cooking odors. You can put a fan in the window pulling air out while you cook. It’s very effective and doesn’t change the temperature too much even during the winter.

r/AirPurifiers · Recommendations for bedroom purifier?

Please read the stickied thread in this sub about air purifiers and dust so you have realistic expectations. Dust is usually too heavy for an air purifier to capture, so it’s not going to eliminate having to vacuum and dust. It can vastly improve your air quality though, so it’s worth having one. Do not buy a Shark. They are terrible. The top three brands recommended on this sub are Levoit, Coway, and Winix. For your space and budget, a Levoit Vital 200 or Coway ap1512hh would work. Levoit doesn’t use a HEPA filter, but it is still an excellent purifier. Whichever one you get, run it on the highest setting you can tolerate noise-wise and leave it there 24/7. Do not use the auto or sleep features. Also if you get the Coway, turn off the ionizer.

r/AirPurifiers · Levoit Vital 200S air quality sensor,is it accurate?

I have several of the vital 200 units and I also have a separate pm2.5 monitor that is not connected to an air purifier. I haven’t been super scientific about tracking it, but in general, the Levoits show red at the same time the separate monitor goes up above a 15-20, which is high for my house. Usually I’m between a 1-5 when the Levoits are blue. Red only happens when I’m cooking, but means the Levoits know when the air is bad. Key is to keep the onboard sensor clean according to the manual. It’s not real granular, but in general it seems to work.

How is that square footage split up? Even if it’s open, that’s so much space you are going to need several purifiers to get coverage. It’s better to buy a few units than try to cover it all with one. Honestly, your house is so big it would probably be worth talking to an HVAC company to see if there’s anything you can do to improve your whole house filtration and then just running smaller units in the bedrooms. You should also plan on tackling the dust with a good bagged HEPA vacuum and wet dusting. Air purifiers do very little for dust. The nursery is pretty straightforward. Levoit Vital 200 or Coway 200 or airmega or air mighty. Could also look into SmartAir. You want to buy something more powerful than what your square footage calls for so you can get 4-6 air changes per hour plus run it on a lower speed to keep the sound down

That filter costs a bit more but comes with added carbon, so it should be better at absorbing smells and it should last longer. IIRC, the Levoit anti-smoke filter packs more carbon than the Winix'. Downside on the Levoit is that the HEPA and Carbon elements are bonded (so if one needs replacing, you'll have to replace both). On the Winix, the HEPA and carbon-layers are separate elements. [https://www.levoit.com.se/p/vital-200s-rokborttagare-kolfilter/](https://www.levoit.com.se/p/vital-200s-rokborttagare-kolfilter/) At least both the Vital 200S and the Winix have separate pre-filters that you can remove and clean on their own. Which is pretty handy when you have pets as these things will collect larger particles like hairs and need to be dusted/cleaned every 14 days or so. Both the Winix and Levoit probably aren't large enough for your huge living room, but should be the right size for your bedroom.

r/AirPurifiers · Quiet air purifiers for a light sleeper?

I have three Levoit Vital 100S units in my apartment. Before that, I used a Winix A330 and a Levoit Core 300. I’ve noticed that rectangular air purifiers are somewhat quieter than cylindrical ones. I also find the sound of the fan and airflow more pleasant and consistent. In particular, the Vital 100S operates at just 23.5 dB in Sleep Mode. The 200S reaches 24 dB, but it would be overkill for my rather small rooms.

r/AirPurifiers · IQAir HealthPro 250 - what are the common issues and is it worth it?

That's more of a merketing gimick I think. Regular HEPA filters filter those particles fine. They just aren't tested for them. The whole .3 microns thing is because .3 microns is the hardest to catch. I believed the hype and got the IQAir, and the air feels cleaner after running my Levoit or Winix than it does from the IQAir. Maybe it's just because of the horrible offgassing, but regardless, I'd recommend one of those over it.

r/AirPurifiers · IQAir HealthPro 250 - what are the common issues and is it worth it?

Bought it and found that it worked a lot worse than either my Winix 5500-2 or my Levoit Vital 200s at cleaning the air. It also let off this horrible chemical smell that made it difficult to breathe and made me super dizzy. I even ran it outside in full blast for 24 hours and that didn’t help the smell at all. Suffice to say, I took it back.

r/AirPurifiers · Which air purifier to choose

I take it that you're somewhere in the EU - why not consider the Levoits? For your budget it'd be enough to buy 3 Vital 200s or 2 600s, depending on your apartment's layout. Having several mid-size units is generally considered to be more effective than one large unit, when dealing with larger spaces and especially with different rooms.

r/AirPurifiers · Seeking advice on placement of Levoit Vital 200S-P placement in open-concept apartment living area

I want to circle back (albeit with a slight delay) and thank you for your feedback, insight, and suggestion. The idea of directly switching the Levoit with a well-working Mila (Mini in this case) was brilliant, yet so logical, which had me kicking myself a bit for not even thinking of conducting such a quick and easy test. I swapped a Mini from my master bedroom with the Levoit, and though it’s only been a few days, I’ve immediately seen a visible accumulation of cat hair appear on the Levoit’s pre-filter. My bedroom seems to be where the most visible cat hair accumulation happens, so it was such a quick and obvious answer to my long-standing question. I also appreciate the CFM reminder on the difference between the units. Although I was aware of this, especially at the time of each purchase, I was forgetting that despite their difference in overall size, the Mila Minis (depending on the filters I’m using) have a more powerful airflow on them than the Levoit to begin with. I was so stuck in thinking I’d illogically managed to achieve an overabundance of purifiers in my space that the Levoit’s efforts were becoming null, which as much as I was stuck in that frame of mind, truly makes little to no sense in any space shared with shedding pets. The airflow of the original space may be part of the issue, though in its new space the Mila continues to pull in visible (along with all that I can’t see) dust accumulation where the Levoit was, likely demonstrating the difference in the unit’s more powerful airflow, and the Levoit is finally looking like it’s doing some work in the bedroom. I’ve always understood that not all the work these units do is going to be visible to see due to the types of particle matter they capture, but in an apartment with two humans and two cats, I have the benefit of always having some visible insight into the work that my purifiers do via each of their filters, and you’ve helped me solve my outstanding concern, for which I thank you again. Ultimately, having one larger Mila and three smaller Mila units, I think I may have benefitted from purchasing a second larger one instead of additional Minis, but I had purchased the Minis ahead of the new Mila 3 which I’d been waiting on releasing due to a purported improvement in the overall reliability of the redesigned unit. I’ve been extremely happy with the Mila 3 and think that when the time comes I’ll add a second one to my arsenal and hand down one or two of the Minis to family members who have grown consistently more interested in using purifiers in their spaces after having seen and heard me praising the use of air purifiers in my home throughout the years to helping both with pet fur and the outside effects of Canadian Wildfire smoke and last January’s California wildfires, during which we lived in close proximity of and right in between two of the large areas directly affected.

211i Max is a beast, 410 CADR, covers up to 1,524 sq ft . But for most rooms, the 311i Max is plenty. Honestly, I'd still take the Levoit Vital 200S-P or Coway AP-1512HH. Cheaper, washable pre-filter saves you money long-term, and they're just as quiet . Unless your room is huge (over 1,000 sq ft), save the cash.

CADR sounds fancy but it's just how fast it cleans. Big room = big CADR. Aim for 300+. From your list – the Blueair 311i Max is more for medium rooms (under 400 sq ft). r/AirPurifiers · Coway vs Levoit vs SmartAir vs AirFanta

You want a minimum CADR of ~115 CFM (200 m³/h) for this space. Problem is, the CADR written in the marketing material for an air purifier is typically on the maximum "jet engine" setting. So for comfortable use 24/7, you want a purifier that achieves that CADR value *at a reasonable volume*. HouseFresh has good data on quiet (<45 dB) cleaning. The EverestAir on 2 and the AirFanta at 6.54 volts have [about the same CADR power at the same noise level](/r/HouseFresh/comments/1gvmgur/what_are_the_best_performing_quiet_air_purifiers/). The thing I don't like about EverestAir (besides the price) is that it has a glued on carbon filter, which means when it starts to smell in a few months you have to change the entire filter. The AirFanta is available without bonded carbon. I would avoid the Vital 200S (too small), but otherwise any of the filters you listed should be powerful enough to clean that space.

The noise is not a big problem for me too, so even if the purifier will be quite loud at max speed but will do a great job with the smell and pollen I will accept the deal. I saw a bunch of video reviews and seems that the Vital 100S is better than the 300S, and the "best" seems to be the 200S, but in a small room the 100S should be enough (I guess). The air purifier mode of my air conditionair is not that bad but is extremely slow and doesn't have any charcoal filter inside, so to get rid of dust or odor it takes quite a lot of time and I don't think it is doing a really nice job. So what I was thinking is having a small one with some proper filtering system will be better than nothing.

    r/AirPurifiers · Should I not get a Levoit?

Levoit Vital 200s gets great reviews. I read a ton of this stuff and I don't see people reporting those units malfunctioning. Over the years, yes, I've seen reports of issues with a whining noise on some units (the 300 and 400) but that was years ago and Levoit addressed it and also offered replacements. They also have good service. I have a Core 300 that is still going from 2020. A Core 300s. And most recently a Vital 100s and Vital 200s. If sized right, these latter two are what you should look at - not the Core units. Those were good in their day, but the Vital units are superior. As for the Hepa question, yes the Vital units are, on sleep mode, and the "scandal" about all of that was drummed up by a competitor - who makes inferior units.

Not Core 300s. Look at Levoit Vital 200s. I have a couple of Core 300s and just got the Levoit Vital 200s. Nothing wrong w/ the Core in its time but the Vital units are a newer, improved design and the Vital 200s has better CADR too. It's a much better unit.

    r/AirPurifiers · Should I not get a Levoit?

If there cs is horrible, I'd steer clear of that brand. However, I've heard positive things about the 200s. Personally, not a fan of supporting a business that has little respect for their customers.  Kinda off topic but I recently made a diy filter using merv 14 filters and a 20in box fan. Works wonderfully. I use the fan as white noise so it was a win win. Got a 4 pack of filters online cheap and a hot glue gun for a few bucks. Saved a ton and I feel like it's a lot more efficient.  Wasn't a fan of those diy rigs until I made it. I was so frustrated with all of the conflicting info about purifiers I read about.

Have 2. No problems. I like the prefilter.  Nearly silent on low. Can’t say if it’s truly HEPA. I think they claim to be on lowest fan speed.

r/AirPurifiers · Levoit Vital 200s vs EverestAir with some odd pricing

It’s definitely based on fan speed and just interval timing. I could reset it right now and say it’s brand new and it’ll read 100% my vital though is a month old and was used as the same purpose and same spot I swapped the two units. That filter is at 89% so the Everest filter definitely doesn’t last as long for the same thing I’m doing

r/AirPurifiers · Levoit Vital 200s vs EverestAir with some odd pricing

Know I’m late to this, but I have a vital200 that I absolutely love, now I’m debating on the Everest instead and moving the vital to my smaller bed room I’m in a 1500 square foot apartment so I know they both are overkill but I use them for my vaping. I use a nicotine vape and have a oled g4 and computer so I keep a big purifier near them to not have any vape clouds near it. I’m glad to see your enjoying the Everest I think I’m gonna go grab one today

r/AirPurifiers · Best air purifier for litterbox odor/pets in 1,100 sq ft home, $200 max budget?

Levoit is loud for sure - the 200 is also not gonna be big enough; they say it filters 1800sqft/hr, and ideally your filter will process the air 4x/hr (so the 200s would be good for ~450sqft) I personally (in a 330sqft studio) have a levoit core 200 in the bathroom (where the litter box is) and a core 300 in the main room. The 200 is loud enough (on the lowest setting) that it sounds like the heater or bathroom fan is running. I’d recommend focusing on the rooms with the litter boxes, before worrying about the bigger spaces

r/AirPurifiers · Levoit Vital 200S air quality sensor,is it accurate?

I have it in my small room and it's really fast ,under 5 min to clean it and turns green in 1 or 2. So I never leave it open,I suppose the filter is gonna last a long time. I got it bigger so it's faster and I can also use it in my living room whenever it need too. It's good to know it works well. Everytime I open the windows it turns red, living in a big town happy I got it.

r/AirPurifiers · Levoit Vital 200S air quality sensor,is it accurate?

Nice thats what i wanted to hear. Also does it seems to reduce it effectively, probably if the sensors aggree then i should know. From my experience it needed one time where it smelled from burning wood and oil for heat and it cleared it up really quick, but other that that the air seems ok,showing red but not much.

    r/AirPurifiers · UK - Levoit Vital 200s

I've not tried the 100s but it looks good from reviews. The main reason I want the 200s is for the higher air flow - I plan to run it 24/7 on the lowest speed and figure it'll be more efficient and the larger fan will make less noise. As for the plug it actually looks like it has a separate power adapter (i.e. not hardwired) so maybe it could be swapped it out for a third party UK one.

Same issue here, I don't think it's available in the UK. I discovered you can order it from Amazon DE (Germany) but I've hesitated as I'm not sure about shipping, returns, import tax, etc. As for the plug I guess you could just user a plug converter.

r/AirPurifiers · Opinions about Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 / 4 Pro vs. Levoit Vital 200s/Core 400s vs. Coway 250s

Follow-up: As suggested, I gave up on the idea of having a single purifier between all the rooms. After lots of reading and reviews, I went ahead and bought two Levoit Vital 200s pro units to be used mainly in the bedrooms, but one of them will be moved to the living room occasionally. Maybe in the future, If we will spend more time in the living room, we'll get a third unit there, to have the entire apartment covered without moving anything around.

r/AirPurifiers · Opinions about Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 / 4 Pro vs. Levoit Vital 200s/Core 400s vs. Coway 250s

Thanks for confirming! That was my thinking too. The everestair at the junction of the rooms was the wishful thinking part. At this point I'm inclined to get 2 units of Vital 200s (pro), one of them being moved between the living and a bedroom, according to needs. Maybe with a third one later on down the line, but there's no hurry at this point and the living room isn't used as much as the bedrooms.

    r/AirPurifiers · Levoit 100s vs Coway AP-1512HH vs Winix 5500-2

I got the s200s-p also (they throw the p on for per) 🤷‍♂️ so far so good. Turbo mode is loud. I do wish it had an air quality sensor and particle sensor not just particle because it doesn't catch all right away, sometimes it's it gets delayed but works.

r/BuyItForLife · What's the best air purifier for home right now that you swear by and recommend?

Depends on your requirements. Raw performance? Coway Smart features? Levoit For pets? Winix Large spaces? Coway, Levoit and Blueair. For your use case I'd go with either levoit or coway. Either of them will work just get one based on your area. From levoit, 200s for smaller spaces, 400s for a bit larger. Airmega mighty 2 from coway is the best bang for buck but lacks smart features. Once again get one based on your area, if you get a smaller one it will do less ACH (air changes per hour). r/BuyItForLife · Best air purifier for dog owners? Need real-world opinions

It helps upto an extent but still the hair part need vacuuming. Air purifier will clean the particles and odor which vacuum cannot solve and the vacuum will solve the hair part which an Airpurifier cannot solve. So in reality you need to have both for optimal performance. As OP, if you have a smaller space I'd just go with a Levoit 200s-p. P variant stands for pets. But it lacks the deep removal of odors from the air. For that nothing in the price point comes close to winix 5500 series. If you want to explore others and read more about it, I'd drop this here: [Airpurifiers for pet hair and odors](https://off-axisdiscussion.vercel.app/article/best-air-purifiers-for-pets-2026)
