r/AirPurifiers · air purifier available on Amazon that can really handle smoke

Per [AHAM's recommendations on wildfire smoke](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/), particulate Smoke Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) should equal a room's area at minimum. So a 196 sq. ft. room with an 8 ft. ceiling needs a Smoke CADR of 196 CFM or greater. If your ceiling is higher than 8 ft., calculate by volume first. As a hypothetical example: 14 ft. × 14 ft. × 12 ft. = 2,352 cubic feet. 2,352 cu. ft. ÷ 8 ft. = 294 sq. ft. as the "adjusted" purifier coverage area. Therefore in this room/space you'd need a Smoke CADR of 294 CFM or more. The recommendations below are conventional HEPA or HEPA-type models. If you don't care about filter costs, have a look at the **Winix 5510**, **Winix 5520**, or **Winix 5530**. The top Smoke CADR is 253 CFM for each model. (Additionally, all of these models have PlasmaWave, an optional bipolar ionizer. Keep this *off* if you have birds as it could harm or kill them. PlasmaWave defaults to being enabled after a power off/power on cycle.) **Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH** is very good. It also uses an ionizer, so the same warning about birds applies. Top Smoke CADR is 234 CFM. You may also want to have a look at the **Levoit Vital 200S-P**. Top Smoke CADR is 250 CFM. It does *not* have an ionizer. If you're willing to spend $240, see the **Winix 9800**. Top Smoke CADR is 323 CFM. Like the other Winix models, it has the PlasmaWave ionizer. Keep in mind the Smoke CADRs I've listed apply to the highest airflow speed/setting *only*. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness. Unfortunately these lower CADRs aren't listed by many purifier brands. And lastly, these purifiers probably won't handle gases/vapors/odors/VOCs from wildfire smoke well. This is because they have very little activated carbon by weight. Many pounds of activated carbon or other sorbent media are needed for wildfire smoke gases/vapors/odors/VOCs.

    FuméeGrande pièceOdeurs & COV
    r/AirPurifiers · Winix 5500-2 vs Levoit Vital 200S vs Coway Airmega AP-1512HH

I would go with the [Winix C909 from Costco Canada](https://www.costco.ca/winix-c909-4-stage-air-purifier-with-wifi-and-plasmawave-technology.product.4000257649.html). Top Smoke CADR is 323 CFM. Likely not a problem in a nail salon, but... the C909 has PlasmaWave, an optional bipolar ionizer.  Keep this *off* if birds are present as it could harm or kill them. (NB: PlasmaWave defaults to being enabled after a power off/power on cycle.) Per the [AHAM 2/3 rule](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/), a 350 sq. ft. room (with an 8 ft. ceiling) needs minimum Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) of 234 CFM. The Winix 5500-2 and [Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH](https://cowaymega.com/products/mighty-ap-1512hh) barely meet Smoke CADR on the highest airflow speed. The [Levoit Vital 200S-P](https://levoit.com/products/vital-200s-p-smart-air-purifier) is better. The Winix 5500-2 has been discontinued in the USA. Not sure how much longer it will be sold in Canada although replacement filters will be available for years to come. Keep in mind the CADRs listed for purifiers apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness.

    r/AirPurifiers · Is Coway Mighty AP-1512HH / Airmega 200 worth it?

Is either model used? It's okay but not good. But no Coway model is going to be useful for odors longer-term. None of their models have significant weights of activated carbon or other sorbent media. Coway purifiers are primarily designed to capture particulates. That being said, it is a very good brand. And I agree on the Airmega 400 (if you're trying to reduce PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0). I wouldn't pay more than $400 for it; sometimes it's on sale for $349. We strongly recommend source control and ventilation first for gases/vapors/odors/VOCs. Heavyweight sorbent purifiers are very loud, very expensive, and clean the air more slowly than particulates-focused units. The staleness could have other causes (ignoring the dog, kids, or husband as potential contributors for now). One is high relative humidity (RH). RH should be between 30 - 60%\*. Consistently high RH can cause mold and mildew to flourish. \*RH should be below 50% and possibly 45% *if* you have dust mite allergies. The "budget" solution for certain odors would be something like the [Oransi TrueCarbon 150C](https://oransi.com/products/truecarbon-150c-air-purifier). It uses 3.2 lbs. of potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) impregnated activated carbon. The price keeps increasing; I definitely wouldn't pay $349 for it. Wayback Machine says it was $269.99 in Nov. 2025.

r/BuyItForLife · Looking for an air purifier that ACTUALLY made a noticeable difference in your room/home. Not influencer reviews or sponsored stuff — real experience only. What brand + model do you personally recommend after long-term use?

Coway AP-1512HH. Had it for about four years, still on the original fan, just replace the filter once a year. The indicator light that tells you when the filter is dirty actually works, which sounds like a low bar but I've had purifiers where that feature was basically decorative. For a newborn specifically I'd say the noise floor matters more than people think. The Coway on its lowest setting is genuinely quiet, you can run it in the bedroom without it becoming background stress. On medium it starts to hum but that's actually useful as white noise once the baby is here. The only thing I'd add is that whatever you get, buy an extra filter at the same time. You don't want to be hunting for the right model filter six months in when the light turns red.

r/AirPurifiers · Recommendation: Best Air Purifiers on the market

I’ll break down the knowledge I have to maybe help you make a decision. Most air purifiers are good for either smells, OR dander. You’ll need a ton of activated charcoal to deal with VOC’s. UV lights won’t do much when there’s a HEPA filter already, that’s catching what the UV light would ‘clean’. Smell fresh and clean you need activated charcoal. If you want minimal maintenance you’ll need a TON of it If budget is truly not an issue what so ever, It all depends on the house layout. I would get separate air purifier and air scrubber for the carbon. My recommendation for VOC’s: Amaircare Airwash MultiPro Air Scrubber Heavy VOC Focus 25 lbs Carbon. It has 25 pounds of carbon that will last a long time My recommendation for an air purifier for dander would be the Coway pro X, or any of their air mega Series if you want multiple smaller ones instead. I would not get the round ones, as if you want the hepa filters to actually last a year, you have 0 choice besides vacuuming/washing a pre filter and the round ones don’t have a separate pre filter. The 1512, 300, and 400 are all also great

r/AirPurifiers · Please help, don’t want to choose the wrong air purifier for my 2 & 3 year old’s bedrooms (ozone concerns).

Ok, so here's the breakdown. Everyone is freaking out about ozone. They have been for years now. Last-gen purifiers made ozone. A lot of it. Units like the "ionic breeze" literally reeked like a thunderstorm. They had mediocre filters, and giant (think 2 feet long and 6" wide) metal plates that spat out toxic levels of ozone. Modern purifiers fall into three categories: 1. No ionizer. These units are fully mechanical. Most of Coway's lineup falls into this category - zero ionizers, and therefore "zero" ozone output. *Full clarity - you are surrounded by ozone. Depending on where you live, ambient levels of ozone are anywhere from 15ppb (in the pristine wilderness of Canada) to 45ppb (most urban areas). Most people are inhaling, at any given time, 25+ppb of ozone. 24/7/365. Their entire lives. It's ... normal. It's how we exist on Earth.* ***Additional clarity - every electronic device produces ionizing radiation and therefore "potentially" converts Oxygen to Ozone. Your cell phone, your laptop, your TV. Motors produce MORE ionizing radiation. Brushed motors (cheap ones, think box fans) are the worst offenders here. How much ozone is really created by these devices? Not much.*** 2. Bipolar ionizer. Winix uses "plasmawave" which creates both polarities of ions, which effectively cancel each other out after a very short time and never have a chance to make any ozone. 3. Standard ionizer. Also known as a static electricity generator. This is a tiny (TINY - like 0.25" wide) static generator that charges the filter housing to make dust/dirt/particles stick better. This is what people fixate on, because remember those ancient purifiers? That made dangerous levels of ozone? Well, they were LITERALLY 1000-2000 TIMES BIGGER, and they produced like 100ppb of ozone... except that if you adjust for scale, that means these little guys are THEORETICALLY CAPABLE OF producing... like 0.1ppb of ozone, which when added to the ambient 25ppb you're inhaling all the time... doesn't matter. 3a. But wait... see, it isn't just the size of the plates, it's how they're configured. The old units were INTENDED to spit ozone into the air, it's how they cleaned air. Remember that ozone generators are SUPER EFFECTIVE at cleaning air. They're just also super effective at damaging your lungs. But even today, the ONLY way to purge a living space of old cigarette smoke smell... is an ozone generator. They're used by remediation crews after mold and other cleanups. But these new units... are engineered to only output static to the casing of the unit. Not spew it into space. So the worry is unfounded. 3b. And wait again! Go to youtube and run a search and you'll find people who have placed calibrated ozone meters into the output path of a coway 1512 (the only unit with an ionizer) with the ionizer turned on... and measured ZERO OZONE. Is it really 0? Or is it 0.1ppb which is too low to register? I'd argue it doesn't matter. 0.1ppb is the same as zero when ambient is 25-45 everywhere that people need a purifer. Also remember that this stuff decays. So even running 24/7 in an enclosed space, you'd need 100 ionizing purifiers to even raise the ozone level 1ppb on an ongoing basis. SO when I say "zero", "none", "safe" what I mean is "as safe as just walking outside because in your house the ozone levels are 5ppb lower than outside, and yet everyone recommends fresh air for your lungs... ... now ... the million dollar question. WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY THESE UNITS MAKE OZONE? Well, a couple reasons. 1. They conflate the old units with the new ones. 2. They assume that "ions = ozone". 3. They can't do math. 4. Some people report stuffy noses or sinus irritation around these units. The problem is that this isn't an ozone symptom. Ozone can THEORETICALLY cause respiratory problems. But in reality, most people can walk around outside after a thunderstorm (when ozone levels spike to 150ppb) without issue. Most people can walk through New York City (where ozone levels are well above 50 at all times) without devolving into a coughing fit. So... why do these units irritate SOME PEOPLE'S sinuses? Simple. Static electricity. Static air can irritate sinuses. It also dries the air out, which can irritate sinuses. My kids have Blueair 411+ units in their bedrooms. They refuse to switch to a Coway. They PREFER the air that way. And they've used them for years. I would NEVER put something in their bedroom running 24/7 that would hurt them. Because... this won't. There's no risk. (And an increase of 1/250th in POSSIBLE ozone levels ... that's just math. It isn't plutonium. It isn't going to hurt them, even if it does exist, which it has been measured NOT TO.) Hope this helps. It isn't the popular narrative, but it's the truth.

r/AirPurifiers · Air Purifier for Mold

So you're focusing on the wrong things. Almost all units we recommend are H13 rated. Coway, Winix, even Levoit Vital. And third-party testing is ... not super relevant at this price point. You want a Coway 250 or Levoit Vital 200 for the upstairs and a Coway 1512 or Coway 150 or Winix 5510 or Levoit Vital 100 for the downstairs.

r/AirQuality · RECOMMENDATION FOR MOST POWERFUL/ EFFECTIVE HOME AIR PURIFIER FOR DUST MITES, DANDER AND OTHER ALLERGENS?

for serious allergies like dust mites, dander, and pollen, the key is a true hepa filter paired with a unit that actually moves enough air for the room. a lot of budget models technically have “hepa” filters, but their cadr is so low they don’t keep up in real spaces. that’s why units like the coway ap-1512hh and honeywell hpa300 get recommended a lot cuz they’re proven performers, easy to maintain, and sized right for bedrooms or medium rooms where consistent clean air matters most. for bigger spaces, something like [the blueair](https://onlinehairguide.com/dp-B073WJL99WVS) 211+ makes sense since its hepasilent design moves a ton of air quietly and the washable pre-filter saves wear on the main filter. the best setup in an allergy household is often a mix: a strong unit like blueair in the living area where allergens get stirred up the most, and a coway or honeywell in the bedroom to keep the sleeping environment as clean as possible. combine that with door closed + regular filter swaps, and you’ll get far better results than just dropping a single small purifier in the house.

    r/AirPurifiers · Is Coway Mighty AP-1512HH / Airmega 200 worth it?

Most air purifiers won't do a ton for odors. You'll need a lot of pelleted carbon. Two budget friendly (compared to models with more carbon) air purifiers that could \*help with the stale odor: Winix 5510 or the Levoit Vital 200s. Either one could work in the bedroom. The Facebook marketplace ad is a good deal financially but neither of those will help with odors. I had the ap-1512hh and it did nothing for odors. I was better off opening my windows. Coway is a good brand IMO. It's just knowing if their devices work for your particular needs or preferences. Consider checking out HouseFresh.com for unbiased reviews on air purifiers.

r/AirPurifiers · Best air purifier for litterbox odor/pets in 1,100 sq ft home, $200 max budget?

Idk, I don’t find the Airmega 1512hh helpful when it comes to smells. The carbon sheet feels useless in comparison to pelleted carbon. I’m a weed smoker and my Winix has made a night and day difference compared to the Airmega. I was shocked to discover it's pretty common for air purifier companies to mislead when it comes to room coverage. For folks with allergies, using an air purifier for virus (COVID, flu, RSV) mitigation, smoke, dust, etc. a purifier really makes the most difference when air in the room can cycle through the filters a number of times per hour. With that it in mind, the recommended room size changes. The Airmega is rated for about 300-350 square feet but that's only based on testing it at its highest fan speed. It's presented very differently in Wirecutter and Amazon when it comes to recommended room size. I've come to find resources for better assessing air purifiers. https://housefresh.com/coway-airmega-ap-1512hh-review/ https://www.airpurifierfirst.com/review/coway-ap-1512hh/

r/BuyItForLife · The best air purifier to buy for home right now? Recommendations to choose?

Coway 1512 or Corsi-Rosenthal Box. Buy (or build) multiple units depending on the size you are working with. If you are trying to address visible dust, you generally need as much air turnover as you can get (i.e., more units, constantly ran on their highest speed). Keep in mind that purifiers only do so much for reducing visible dust, as that is not what they are intended for. They will reduce dust accumulation, but you should have measured expectations going into this. What they excel at is filtering the particles that you cannot see (which are incredibly harmful to your health.)

r/AirPurifiers · [canada] suggestions on air purifier

For a 250 sq ft apartment with two cats, I would put most of the budget into one decent unit for the bedroom/living room first, then treat the bathroom as a small odor-control spot rather than trying to run two weak purifiers everywhere. Look for true HEPA, a real replaceable carbon filter, and a CADR that is comfortably above the room size. Pet hair is mostly handled by the prefilter, but dander and dust need HEPA, and litter-box smell needs carbon. A washable prefilter is useful, but I would not make fully washable filters a must-have; most washable "HEPA-style" filters perform worse, and the cost usually shows up as weaker filtration. For Canadian shopping around your budget, I would compare the Levoit Core 300/Core 300S, Winix A230/A231 if you find it on sale, and the Coway AP-1512HH if you can stretch or catch a discount. For the bathroom counter, I would avoid tiny novelty units and use a small purifier only if it has available replacement filters and actual carbon. Otherwise, a covered litter box routine plus ventilation may do more than a very small purifier.

r/BuyItForLife · What are the Best Air Purifiers on the market that you've ever tested and really trust?

I've been pretty happy with my Coway HP-1512, bought it in 2016 and it's still going strong (by contrast, the Honeywell HEPA filters I bought before that tended to die of burned out motors after a couple years). It appears that the modern version of the same model is the Coway AirMega Mighty2. The Coway has a three stage filter system: 1. A reusable/cleanable fine plastic mesh 2. A disposable activated charcoal filter 3. A disposable paper filter. The Coway has brushless motors, an air quality sensor, and an "auto" mode that ramps the fan speed up and down as needed. This reduces the electric cost significantly. This helps balance out the higher cost of the replacement filters. Here's the official Coway brand replacement filter: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C7WMQTW?th=1](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C7WMQTW?th=1) $52.99 Here's an off brand 2 pack replacement filter set, it seems to work okay: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQW5KTK](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQW5KTK) $37.15 I live in a very dusty part of a very dusty city (Pittsburgh, down near the river so the valley channels dust, and downstream of some industrial pollution). I suspect there's a relatively large amount of "large" dust and etc. I've considered trying to figure out some approach for removing it to extend the life of the expensive Coway filters. Maybe building a DIY system, using reusable/cleanable furnace filters. I wouldn't let one of those filters near my furnace, and I'm a little skeptical of their efficacy in general, but for catching the larger dust and etc, maybe it would be useful? Possibly.

r/BuyItForLife · What's the best air purifier for home right now that you swear by and recommend?

All HEPA filters are equally effective at cleaning the air. They differ in the RATE in which they clean the air, which is measured by the CADR or clean air delivery rate. (They also differ in noise, convenience, other features, etc.) Bigger purifiers will have more powerful motors and can push air through faster, so they have higher CADR. And actually they have three CADR rates, one each for smoke, pollen and dust, corresponding to different particle sizes. The one for smoke is usually the lowest, and it's the one you need to pay attention to. You don't need an incredibly high CADR rate, you just need one high enough for your room. The usual rule of thumb is the 2/3's rule. Your CADR should be equal to or higher than 2/3's of your room area in square feet. So if your room is 20x20 feet, that's 400 square feet, and you need a CADR of 267 or more. Also, that's assuming you don't have open windows or central heat or cooling vents pumping air into your room. If you do, then your air purifier will be trying to clean the air in the entire house, or all of outdoors, and it won't be up to the task. But remember that the CADR rating is only for a certain setting on the air purifier, usually "High" (because that gives the highest CADR rating). Maybe you don't want to run your purifier on high all the time, because of noise or whatnot. So it might make sense to buy a bigger purifer than that 2/3's rule would indicate, or buy more than one. I use the very popular Coway Mighty, with a CADR of 233, so it works for rooms of about 350 square feet RUNNING ON HIGH (233 x 3/2, which is the 2/3's rule in reverse). It's nice and quiet and unobtrusive. But for my 750 square foot apartment it's not adequate, so I have three of them, two running on high all the time. I figure that's barely enough. I think people often underestimate how much air purifying capacity they need for their homes. For a small home of 1,200 square feet, you'd need at least four of those Mightys running on high.

C-R boxes are easy to improvise, but they can be bulky, and there's no telling how long a box fan will last in that situation. Also changing the filters might be difficult. I did see one made with a wood frame where changing the filters was super easy, but it ended up costing about $200 in materials. So no cost savings, and you get a giant box you need to put somewhere. A Coway Mighty is also about $200, and it's like a small suitcase.

r/AirPurifiers · Thinking about buying Levoit Vital 100S, some question

I bought Vital 100S for 160€ and 2 days after Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH is on sale for 168€. Now im frustrated and temped to buy it :D Mine had no smell, its plug and play. And it works decent. On setting 2 its great for sleeping and i left it run all night. Maybe its placebo but i slept really good. And also prefilter it already a little bit dusty. Its working but you always need to go above your budget for air purifiers. So you can set it to lowest fan and still have all the benefits. Just my 2 cents

r/AirPurifiers · Levoit vital 200s vs Blueair 211i max vs Coway airmega 400s

I have the 211iMax and AP-1512HH, both are excellent. I've had the 1512 many years now running 24/7 and it's been flawless, and is nice and quiet on all but the top speed. I've had the 211iMax for about 4 months and it's been excellent. It moves a ton of air and is even quieter than the 1512.

r/AirPurifiers · Can I use the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH without the carbon filter?

It depends on the filter. Some third party HEPA filters are fine mechanically, they fit and they filter. The problem is there is no universal testing standard that third parties have to meet to claim compatibility. So you are trusting the listing, not the data. The authentic Coway filter is tested for that specific unit. A third party might filter just as well, or it might have slightly looser media, worse seals around the edges, or a shorter usable life. You usually will not know until you are already using it. If you go third party, look for one that publishes actual filtration specs, not just "compatible with AP-1512HH." And check the seal around the edges when you install it. If there are gaps, air bypasses the filter entirely and the whole thing is pointless.

r/AirPurifiers · Can I use the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH without the carbon filter?

    >Short version: yes, it will run fine on just the HEPA, and for dust mites you are not really losing anything. The AP-1512HH has three layers. A washable pre-filter on the outside, the activated carbon filter, and the True HEPA. Dust mite allergen is a particulate, so the HEPA is the part actually doing that job. The carbon filter is for odors, smoke, and VOCs, which are gases the HEPA does not capture. So if dust mites are your only concern, running the HEPA plus the washable pre-filter covers it. You just give up odor and gas control while the carbon is out, which sounds fine for your case. One thing that saves real money on this model: the pre-filter is washable and permanent, so you never rebuy it, just rinse it every few weeks. And when you do replace the HEPA, match the exact code printed on your current filter so you do not grab a look-alike sized for a different Coway.

r/AirPurifiers · Recommendations for bedroom purifier?

Please read the stickied thread in this sub about air purifiers and dust so you have realistic expectations. Dust is usually too heavy for an air purifier to capture, so it’s not going to eliminate having to vacuum and dust. It can vastly improve your air quality though, so it’s worth having one. Do not buy a Shark. They are terrible. The top three brands recommended on this sub are Levoit, Coway, and Winix. For your space and budget, a Levoit Vital 200 or Coway ap1512hh would work. Levoit doesn’t use a HEPA filter, but it is still an excellent purifier. Whichever one you get, run it on the highest setting you can tolerate noise-wise and leave it there 24/7. Do not use the auto or sleep features. Also if you get the Coway, turn off the ionizer.

r/VacuumCleaners · I’m pretty sure I have dust mites and I need my apartment deep cleaned.

As a cat parent with three shed-happy fur babies, vacuuming regularly is essential and something like the Bissell 24613 Pet Hair Eraser Turbo (budget), which has a SmartSeal allergen system, the Shark Pet Plus Cordless Stick Vacuum IZ361H, or the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute (if you're willing to splurge), which has among the best suctioning, will help you keep your home dust mite and other allergen free. But I would also recommend regularly cleaning your mattress, sheets and couch. Brands now make vacuums specifically for mattresses and other upholstery, and they're more portable than actual vacuums so you can quickly pull them out and do a quick clean as you're making your bed in the morning or before going to bed at night. I haven't tested it yet but the FEPPO Cordless Mattress Vacuum Cleaner has been making its rounds on social media lately. I, along with many of my friends who have cats, heavily rely on air purifiers as well. Which one do you have? A few of my friends love the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier.

r/moderatelygranolamoms · Best air purifier for reducing dust and allergens in a kid’s room?

For dust and allergens in a kid’s room, you need true HEPA H13 plus an activated carbon filter. Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is the best under $200. Covers 361 sq ft, filter lasts 12 months and costs $60. I run it 24/7 in my kid's room - dust on furniture dropped 80% in 2 weeks. CADR is 246 for dust which is solid. Avoid ionizers or UV-C lights if you want non-toxic, they produce ozone which is bad for kids. Levoit Core 300S is cheaper at $99 but only covers 219 sq ft. Main thing is check room size and get CADR that’s 2/3 of your sq footage. Also vacuum with a HEPA filter 2x weekly or the purifier gets clogged fast.

r/Home · Tired of seeing 'just get a Coway' when someone asks for best home air purifier so here's an actual breakdown

Honestly, I’ve been down the air purifier rabbit hole too, and it’s kinda overwhelming with all the options. I get why folks just drop the ‘Coway’ name but it doesn’t always fit everyone’s needs, right? For something like dust and allergies, I tried the Coway AP-1512HH Mighty. It works great for that, super quiet on low, but if you're dealing with pet smells or cooking odors, it’s not quite enough. They’ve got this fabric-like carbon layer, not actual carbon pellets, so it’ll do okay with light smells, but not heavy ones like litter boxes. If you’re looking for something that handles both allergens and smells, you might wanna check out Winix 5500-2. It has real carbon pellets, works well for pet smells, and the filters last longer since the pre-filter’s washable. But, honestly, a bit noisy on higher settings. One more thing I’d throw in is checking out the filter costs, ‘cause those add up! I’ve found AirPurifiers(dot)com helpful when it comes to filter prices and choosing a decent purifier, though it’s good to look around too.

When my allergies flared up after I moved, I went down the same rabbit hole comparing specs and Reddit mentions until my head hurt. I finally picked the Coway Airmega AP 1512HH because I kept seeing long term owners say it just keeps running without issues. I’ve had mine for over two years in a small bedroom and it’s been consistent, quiet on low, and strong enough on high when pollen is bad. My sneezing at night dropped a lot once I started running it 24/7.

r/recsmatter · Anyone have a recommendation for the best air purifier for a large room?

211i Max is a beast, 410 CADR, covers up to 1,524 sq ft . But for most rooms, the 311i Max is plenty. Honestly, I'd still take the Levoit Vital 200S-P or Coway AP-1512HH. Cheaper, washable pre-filter saves you money long-term, and they're just as quiet . Unless your room is huge (over 1,000 sq ft), save the cash.

r/recsmatter · Anyone have a recommendation for the best air purifier for a large room?

CADR sounds fancy but it's just how fast it cleans. Big room = big CADR. Aim for 300+. From your list – the Blueair 311i Max is more for medium rooms (under 400 sq ft). For a large room, you want the **Levoit Vital 200S-P** or **Coway AP-1512HH Mighty**. Both handle dust really well, quiet sleep mode, and under $200. r/BuyItForLife · best air purifier for apartment, bad allergies

ok so i did a deep dive on this when my hayfever got unbearable last year. the wirecutter has tested basically every purifier in existence and their top pick for small apartments is the Coway AP-1512HH, been their number one for like six years running. got one, allergies noticeably better within a week, filter replacements are cheap. only thing i'd add is put it in your bedroom not the living room — you spend 8 hours in there and that's where it makes the most difference

r/carverscave · LEVOIT Vital 200S-P Air Purifier Review: When Clean Air Becomes an Obsession

I got the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH(W) off amazon for $206USD before taxes.  I like it, thoughit's my first experience with a purifier and I had some expectations for it that it didn't really meet. I'm sure it's made an impact but it didn't fully solve my dust or pet dander problem as much as I would've liked. We've had some nearby wildfires lately, and on bad days I haven't had much of the smoke smell indoors as I used to. A small caveat is I could have miscalculated and it's underpowered for my space.  There's a cheaper one with a carbon filter insert in this video I watched when I decided to get this one. The Winex 5500-2, I believe was the one.  https://youtu.be/9tA3T7AzsZ4?si=ilsrzpGPiQ-PtGmm

r/AirQuality · RECOMMENDATION FOR MOST POWERFUL/ EFFECTIVE HOME AIR PURIFIER FOR DUST MITES, DANDER AND OTHER ALLERGENS?

for serious allergies like dust mites, dander, and pollen, the key is a true hepa filter paired with a unit that actually moves enough air for the room. a lot of budget models technically have “hepa” filters, but their cadr is so low they don’t keep up in real spaces. that’s why units like the coway ap-1512hh and honeywell hpa300 get recommended a lot cuz they’re proven performers, easy to maintain, and sized right for bedrooms or medium rooms where consistent clean air matters most. for bigger spaces, something like the blueair 211+ makes sense since its hepasilent design moves a ton of air quietly and the washable pre-filter saves wear on the main filter. the best setup in an allergy household is often a mix: a strong unit like blueair in the living area where allergens get stirred up the most, and a coway or honeywell in the bedroom to keep the sleeping environment as clean as possible. combine that with door closed + regular filter swaps, and you’ll get far better results than just dropping a single small purifier in the house.

r/AirQuality · RECOMMENDATION FOR MOST POWERFUL/ EFFECTIVE HOME AIR PURIFIER FOR DUST MITES, DANDER AND OTHER ALLERGENS?

hey! i’ve been down this road for my younger cousin. he's super sensitive to dust mites and dander and it got worse during spring pollen season. you’re already doing most of the heavy lifting (covers, bare floors, daily vacuuming-kudos) so an air purifier really is the next best layer of defense. the thing is, not all HEPA filters are created equal and your doctor’s advice (while technically right) misses that nuance. for serious allergy issues, you’ll want something with a True HEPA filter (not just HEPA-type) and ideally combined with a carbon filter for odors/chemicals and a strong CADR rating (that’s the clean air delivery rate-super imp if you're purifying a whole room). after a tons of research on reddit + allergist advice i can confidently say these four are equally good Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty. this is my go to rec. It’s quiet, powerful, reliable and has an actual ionizer you can turn off. great for medium-to-large bedrooms. filters last long and aren’t too pricey to replace. Honeywell HPA300. if you’re doing a large room or living space, this is one of the strongest for the price. massive CADR and genuine HEPA filtration. Blueair 211+. this one’s a beast. covers large rooms (up to ~540 sq ft) and the tech combines electrostatic and mechanical filtration to trap dust mites, pet dander, pollen and even bacteria. and it stays whisper-quiet. in your son the last one is probably the best pick because it combines high CADR and true allergen filtration without generating ozone and yes large room coverage, all while being low maintenance. it’s a long term investment but very worth. Also imp tip- put the purifier in his bedroom, run it on high for an hour while he’s out, then switch to low/auto overnight. avoid corners- give it breathing room for airflow. i'm trying to think of more things i did for my cousin but these were top 2 advices. i'll edit the comment if i remember something later lol.

    r/AirPurifiers · Overwhelmed choosing

Blueairs make excellent cat scratching posts :) and yes, it does kick dust up into the air when you take it off -- so I do it outside. The coway pre-filters are well contained, and tend to not release stuff while you open them up and clean them. But I don't have experience with the pro x specifically. And with coway, it does depend a little; the 1512 is easy, but the 150/160 sliding one can release if there's lots on there or the fan is coasting down or running. I can't answer everything you are asking about. The spreadsheets here are maintained by volunteers :) like you!

r/AirPurifiers · Best air purifier for litterbox odor/pets in 1,100 sq ft home, $200 max budget?

Some reviews had said it didn’t work for smells. In my experience, it’s been helping a lot with the ammonia odor, which was really bad before. I’m sure there is better out there but decision fatigue is real and I wasn’t making myself crazy searching for the perfect one when in reality there is no such thing. I read your links, thank you. The main thing I find concerning is the energy cost but mine runs on 1 most of the time, occasionally kicking up to 2 after cooking or heavy construction from below. Like I said, I wish it had WiFi capabilities so I’d get a different model for the bedroom if I buy another, but it’s been satisfactory for the purpose I bought it for.

r/AirPurifiers · Best air purifier for litterbox odor/pets in 1,100 sq ft home, $200 max budget?

I just bought the coway airmega ap-1512hh. It was wirecutter’s pick, the amazon reviews were positive, done. I have a new apartment so been buying quite a bit and couldn’t be bothered to go down a rabbit hole of comparing fifteen different products. It’s working well. I do wish it was WiFi enabled. But I bought it for pretty much the same purpose, improving the room smell as I have a very elderly rabbit who no longer uses his litter box. They have a special pet filter but I decided to try out the one it came with for a few days and see if I felt it was necessary - it wasn’t. The coverage says 1748 sq ft but in terms of it actually working for the whole home - I don’t think any one air purifier can do that unless it’s attached to your HVAC system. I’m probably going to get another one for the bedroom.
