r/wyzecam · Weird tapping sound after startup

That's actually the IR filter switching - totally normal but definitely creepy when you don't know what it is lol. The camera adjusts between day/night mode and makes that mechanical clicking sound when the infrared filter moves. You can usually disable auto IR in the settings if it's bugging you but then night vision might be wonky

V4 is a good quality/night vision boost. I have them on th front of my house having replaced V3s. But V3 has a wider FOV and can be used with Cam Plus Lite if you have it. V3 is really only available on EBay these days.

r/wyzecam · Is the app necessary for the Wyze Cam v3 to function?

I was just as surprised when I learned this the hard way. The device is capable of recording offline, but it seems to be programmed to check for server connection whenever the camera restarts, and won't start recording nothing until then. Technically you can take it offline and continue to record to SD if you never let the camera shut down, but that's just a bandaid to the real issue which is this stupid programming on the device.

r/Tapo · Wyze Cam v4 vs Tapo C120 Which Offers Better Value?

I ditched Wyze a few years ago after their two "data breaches" (which were more like bad coding on their part than an actual breach) which allowed others to see your videos, at least in notifications. Granted I had v3 cameras, I enjoy the functionality and slightly better reliability the C120 has. Tapo natively includes RTSP stream capabilities, so if you want to roll your own NVR, etc, they are there without hacking the firmware. Also better integration into Home Assistant, if that's your thing.

r/wyzecam · Wyze captured night time incident while Tapo / Eufy missed event

Certainly all brands can miss events. I’ve been using Wyze, Tapo, Eufy, Ring, Nest for years, with Wyze being the longest in use. It amazes me that the cheap v2 and v3 capture the most and best reliably, with both SD card redundancy and cheap cloud storage to boot. Ring / Nest have no local recording. Tapo & Eufy cloud is pricey, so Wyze offers dual storage which is most consistent and reliable. The cheap v2s and v3s have outperformed their price point by far. The $120 Eufy s340 really ticked me off with its lackluster performance, and let me down when I needed it the most.

    r/wyzecam · Since I went to 5g, --- Are my Wyze Cam v3 --- now considered JUNK?

first, we need to presume (and you need to confirm) that we're talking about your WiFi frequency of 5G, and not the cell-carrier uplink. If WiFi, then you may need to avoid a common pitfall, which is to have the SSID for your 5GHz WiFi AP be the same as its 2.4GHz AP. A lot of WiFi AP's/Routers offer that as a "convenience" or "automatic switching" but it can confuse the daylights out of older clients (like your cameras, perhaps). They see an SSID, and try to attach but fail if they can't successfully do 5GHz. So you get "flapping". It's connected one moment, offline the next. Set the SSID on the 5GHz side of your Router to an SSID with a suffix like '-5g' and have your 5GHZ-capable clients choose it. Set the 2.4GHz side of your Extender to the same SSID and password as your old router offered, so it looks like what your cams were using earlier. Configure the Extender to use the Router's 5GHz SSID. The cams should now find the Extender, and the Extender should find your router, and all should be happy.

    r/wyzecam · Since I went to 5g, --- Are my Wyze Cam v3 --- now considered JUNK?

You should be able to log into your router/modem and change to 2.4 + 5g. Or enable band steering so both are available but devices that can go onto 5g can hop onto 5g when they want to, others who cannot dont. If you can’t log into your modem to manage it, you usually can ask the ISP to put it in bridge mode and use your own higher end router connected to it as the main wifi with the settings changed to your own.

r/wyzecam · What is wrong with my wyze cam v3 night mode

It’s been years since I first set up my v3, but from what I can recall, it shouldn’t need night mode very often or at all. I believe due to it becoming b&w, that turns off the light-gathering abilities it has to “see in the dark.” Again, it’s been awhile since I read about it but that seems to be the vague memory I have.

r/wyzecam · What is wrong with my wyze cam v3 night mode

What does it look like when you turn all of it off? IR is probably not needed, that’s more for seeing in the dark indoors. It does do well with a tiny bit of light to let in. If I stand on my porch with the porch light on and look out, it’s pitch black out there, but my Wyze cam looks almost like daylight and I can see everything. I don’t have any of my night vision turned on though. When I turn it on it looks like your cam. Blackness.

    r/wyzecam · Wyze Cam v3, Pan v3, Pan v2 & v3 Pro Firmware Beta Test 6/18/2026

I have 40 cameras operating here. The majority are the above models. A few have been a bit buggy here and there, so I loaded these beta firmwares on a few, they looked mote stable throughout last night, did the rest today and the whole lot seem thusfar to be operating smother and more stable. As of now I'm satisfied with these firmware versions (tried the pan cam v3 and v3 versions), working well.

    r/wyzecam · Tricked again!!!

There's nothing at all wrong with this camera, you're choosing to return one of the better of them all w8th a wider view, to boot.

    r/wyzecam · Tricked again!!!

I've had zero issues with v3s and despite having 5 models of wyze cams the v3 is still the most rock solid of them all rarely having any connectivity issues, outperforms them all. Simply put it's still the best model of cam I own.

    r/wyzecam · Wyze Cam v3

Things to try a substitute- the sd card, the power adapter: both can and will knock it offline if they'd bad or going bad. It may just be positioned in a spot where your wifi is not strong- key there would be a mesh router or a separate access point. When you add the cam back to the network you do not have to remove it you can just add it back.

    r/wyzecam · Wyze Cam v3 Firmware Beta Test 4/22/2025

Did the gradually released v3 firmware get pulled? Oh and might wanna pass on to the app developers, whatever was done in the last ios app update the event video and sd card viewing freezes when watching, requiring downloading the video and/or putting phone in standby mode and reawakening it to see it smoothly, never before seen this happen.

    r/wyzecam · Since I went to 5g, --- Are my Wyze Cam v3 --- now considered JUNK?

"5g" cell band is not the same as 5ghz wifi. If you have a cellular 5g ISP that doesn't turn your router provided Wi-Fi into 5g Your router provides 2 Wi-Fi bands (maybe 3) - 2.4ghz and 5ghz (and maybe 6ghz if it's bleeding edge). The Wyze cameras, like all smart home devices, use 2.4ghz. Your issue is a network issue. Your cameras need to connect to your 2.4ghz network. One way is to log on to your router, disable the 5ghz band temporarily, connect your cameras, and then reenable 5ghz. Personally I know people have had to do this but I never have had to.

    r/wyzecam · Tricked again!!!

Yes. It's important know what you're buying and have an idea of whether it will work for your application. In your world I suppose you expect the business to research your needs, the market, emerging technology, the phases of the moon, ad infinitum and then provide you exactly what you need - or refuse the sale because they can't? And the Wyze Cam v3 is a current Wyze product, supported by Wyze. No one "tricked" you.

    r/wyzecam · Tricked again!!!

How were you "tricked" when you admit you failed to do any research? Wyze still sells and supports the v3,

All you've told us is that you bought a TP-Link Wifi extender. There is no way for us to know what you've done wrong. Can you see the externer 2.4 Ghz Wifi on your phone? You will have to add your cameras to the app like you did when they were new. Use the same camera names. They will replace the old ones.

    r/wyzecam · Sudden audio distortion?

weird audio glitch like that, where it gets all slow and low pitched, usually points to something going wrong with the audio processing on the firmware side rather than the hardware itself. since you already updated and restarted, the next thing i would try is doing a full factory reset through the app settings, because sometimes a firmware update doesn't apply cleanly and leaves the old config in weird state. after the reset just set it up again fresh and see if the distortion comes back. if it does come back even after clean setup, that might be worth contacting their support directly because it could be a firmware bug affecting that specific version of camera, and they sometimes push a fix or offer replacement if the unit is still under warranty

No, but camera will be listed as off-line if they scroll through the app. Not active notification though (a badly needed feature, often referred to as ‘heartbeat’ monitoring).

r/wyzecam · Using Wyze Cam V3 / V4 outside (and plugged outside too?)

Your outlet is better protected than 95% of what’s out there. V3 or V2 do great outside as long as out of direct weather (V3 can be fully exposed, but why if not necessary). If you are TRULY concerned about weather and electricity, you can run your low voltage wires to a joint supply indoors. The cameras draw less than 1/3 A so it’s easy to dimension cable to keep voltage drop with limits.

r/wyzecam · I need a way to power 2x (two) Wyze Cam V3 from the same cable from an outlet 40 ft away

Assuming the cameras draw a max of about 1 amp each (lights on, WiFi transmitting, SD card active, etc.), you'd need a 16 gauge cable to maintain acceptable voltage drop of < 0.5V. Source: https://www.rapidtables.com/calc/wire/voltage-drop-calculator.html I did a similar thing and I used landscape wire to run the power: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire-250-ft-12-2-Black-Stranded-CU-Low-Voltage-Landscape-Lighting-Wire-55213444/300836209 The alternative is to use a DC boost converter to boost it up to at least 12 volts, preferably 24 volts, then a DC buck converter on the other side to get back to 5V. You can plug those voltages into the previously linked voltage drop calculator to figure out how thin you could make the wire in those configurations.

    r/wyzecam · "Loading Livestream..." Slow

Honestly, I think I'd rather trash the cameras and replace them with another brand that go through the process of downgrading the firmware. Lesson learned...when they release a new version of firmware, update 1 camera and see if there are any issues before updating the rest of them.

    r/wyzecam · "Loading Livestream..." Slow

That's terrible support if they told you it was your problem, not theirs. I can pretty much guarantee that it is not a speed problem for me. The 1 camera that seems to be the slowest to respond is within 5 feet of a wifi repeater on one side of the house. We can have 2 TVs streaming through that same repeater with no issues. And we shouldn't have to reformat/downgrade firmware because they obviously failed to throroughly test the firmware before they released it.

    r/wyzecam · "Loading Livestream..." Slow

Looks like they may have finally fixed the issue. I am going to install the new firmware only on the camera that seems to be loading the slowest and see if works better. 🤞 https://preview.redd.it/ov14jlkjb5rg1.jpeg?width=844&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0408ded0a8a906e4825642cf0f32dcb0f98b596

    r/wyzecam · "Loading Livestream..." Slow

There are directions on how to flash your firmware to a different version here. Make sure to look at the process for your particular model of camera. It's a bit of a process and I do not really want to do it on 6 cameras. I'm hoping they release a newer firmware that fixes the issue. r/wyzecam · Wyze V3 w/ Cam Plus missing events & stops recording

I think that because you have such a small target zone you'd be better off with no detection zone and very high sensitivity. The camera isn't detecting enough motion to keep it recording. High sensitivity usual results in too many notifications but in your case you want everything in the field of view all the time. If the litter box doesn't fill the frame move the camera closer.

r/wyzecam · Is the app necessary for the Wyze Cam v3 to function?

You have to have the app to get it set up and to view the card online. It will record to the SD until the first interruption and then it'll need the app to restart. It's just not practical to try to run a camera long term without internet.

r/wyzecam · Wyze cam v3 has no power

If you know you're getting to the camera and it's unresponsive in every way it IS dead. One internal component, probably part of the power supply, failed. That happens occasionally.

Record continuously 24/7. Period. That's the **only** way to do security cameras properly. If you're not recording continuously then it's only a matter of time before **any** camera brand misses an event. If you're only doing motion based recording then all you have are toys, not security cameras.

It's not just about speed. It's also about congestion. As you use more devices your router will have more trouble keeping devices connected. It may be that the router can no longer handle your requirements. Or it could be the camera. The only real way to be sure would be set the camera up at another location and see if it has the same issue.

    r/wyzecam · Unplugging Wyze Cam v3

No, unplugging it won't alert them, but it's highly likely they have it set up to alert them to motion detection, so if you don't have a way to unplug/cut power to the camera without being seen by it, you're gonna get caught. The only way they'll know it got unplugged is if: 1) they physically see the camera is disconnected, 2) they try to pull up the live feed and it can't connect - which will likely cause them to investigate why, and 3) if they try to go back through the recording and notice there's a big chunk of video missing from the timeline.

r/wyzecam · Can I use the Wyze Cam v3 just to alert me when my garage door is open?

I don't think the alert trigger will work without the garage module being attached as those settings only appear when the garage accessory is attached to a v3. The garage door kit comes with a smaller controller that plugs into the camera AND a 10" square (ish) QR code sticker you slap on your garage door that it "looks" for to determine if the door is open or closed. Alternatively, you could probably use a Wyze Sense kit with a door sensor, but getting the door sensor to work on a garage door is a bit tricky. Else there are a ton of non Wyze ecosystem options.

    r/wyzecam · Wyze cam V3 keeps dropping to 0 kb/s

Yep, we know that's not a network issue. It's just the shitty piece of software they've built. You need to force close the app and open again to get the live feed to work again. Most of the time this only works for one or two cameras but not for all of them, I have 6. This seems to be happening on iOS, are you on iOS or Android?

    r/wyzecam · Wyze cam V3 keeps dropping to 0 kb/s

Man, I can tell my network is well configured and pretty stable, I'm a software developer. I also have an Android device and two Amazon Fire TV, the stream on those devices works pretty well, no problems at all. It is only the iOS app that's been shitty for months. As a software dev I know that Apple sometimes enforces different guidelines that may affect the functionality of different apps, and that may the case of the Wyze app. Even tho that may be the reason of their malfunctioning I'm still concerned that Wyze hasn't put enough effort to fix it as it's been like that for months.

r/wyzecam · Wyze cam v3 has no power

Doesn't make any sense how it would just suddenly go like that. If it was damaged I could understand, but it's still in good condition. I'll reach out to some support, but I'm trying to see if maybe I can open up the camera somehow and inspect inside and see if that helps in any way.

r/wyzecam · Wyze cam v3 has no power

I tried it on a different adapter and now I'm getting a buzzing/static noise from the camera which might indicate the adapter isn't powerful enough but the actual camera has noise coming from it so perhaps the camera does have some power in it?

r/wyzecam · Wyze cam v3 has no power

The light was already off (I turned off the light in the settings when I used to use it). I press the setup button and nothing happens. I've tried it in different adapters and none of them do anything. I tried it in a specific adapter and all I get is a buzzing/static like noise from the camera which makes me think maybe there is some power in it still, although not sure why other adapters wouldn't have worked with this camera (but the adapter is fine as I'm using it with my other cameras).

r/wyzecam · Wyze cam v3 has no power

It has to be something like that. It just sucks because I have 5 cameras and 2 of those 5 died within a year of me using it (although it wasn't soon after I bought it since I bought a few to put some aside in case I needed more for other spots).

r/wyzecam · Wyze cam v3 has no power

Doesn't seem to do anything so it could be completely dead. I've tried different cables and adapters and they don't work. I've tried the same cable/adapter on other things (like a power bank) and that works fine. I've tried plugging it in and doing a factory reset by holding the setup button but that doesn't seem to do anything either (which it wouldn't if there's no power to begin with).

Check the firmware version in the app first. The v3 RTSP build is its own branch, and any OTA update overwrites it with stock — the port can still accept TCP while the actual RTSP stack is gone. If that is what happened, re-flash the RTSP firmware and stop taking updates.

You need a router that allows you to split the bands into their own SSIDs (Think of SSIDs as the actual connections you see in the wifi list). So at my home I have a modem connected to a TP link router which has two SSIDs, one for 2.4GHz and another for 5GHz. My cameras and smart devices use the 2.4 and my phone and tvs use the 5.

When I had to set up a 2g along with my 5g it had a difference wifi connection (I didn’t need a splitter, I just set up 2 different wifi options) I had to go into the wyze app setting and make sure it was connecting to the 2 instead of the 5. If I remember correctly it was attempting to connect to the 5 since that’s what most of my devices are on so I had to manually tell it to connect to the 2.

The V4 should handle that setup fine since you're not exposing the actual power adapter to weather For the front door one though - even with awning, that open outlet cover makes me a bit nervous. Maybe get one of those weatherproof outlet covers that can close properly even with cable going through? Water and electricity don't mix well, especially in long term setup Both cameras themselves are rated for outdoor use so that part should be good

    r/wyzecam · Wyze Cam V3 power options

I’ve used 10ft usb extension cables for years without problems but I use dielectric grease on the connectors and protect the cables from sun. They’re much thinner than an ac extension cable. My problems were related to the Wyze ac usb power converters that don’t like high humidity so I switched to their outdoor rated version and those problems went away. More common issues with Wyze are their need for strong WiFi signal and their mobile app being sensitive to how many other apps are running in the background. One thing to consider for the solar/ battery option is that they are rather power hungry even when in the power off mode. I tried running one with a large usb power bank and didn’t make it through the night.

I have Wyze Cam V3's on the inside of my downstairs windows mounted with the Wyze window mount and that has worked just fine for me for the past few years. I have 256 GB MicroSD cards in them and they record continuously. My mom has the Wyze Cam OG's which are newer in window mounts and they work just as well if not better than the V3's. Everything can be controlled from the app no matter where you are. Amazon, Walmart, and their own website are constantly having sales. I think you can get the Cam OG's right now for $19.99. I've been very impressed with the quality and affordability.

    r/Wyze · Do the Cam V3 or V4 need a base station?

Wyze Cams don't need a base station because they all run off of WiFi. You just use the app to set them up and view everything. I'd personally recommend the V3 over the V4 if you have not already chose yet. They have been amazing but I use them indoors with the indoor window mount that is made for them. I also have a Wyze Cam OG, a Pan Cam V3, and a Video Doorbell Pro all of which I would recommend as well if you have the need for them.

My addict brother realized he could cut the power to the modem, camera, etc and then he just went through everything I owned and stole everything he wanted. He was not bright enough to make sure not to touch or reposition the camera so after 3.5 hours of being offline, the first thing you notice is that the camera was moved and it can’t move on its own. I hope he got everything he wanted of mine because that’s the night the entire house caught fire and I was lucky enough to be at my parents that night. I have some hilarious videos of him trying to slowly sneak up along the far sides of its visibility moving so slowly I truly think Jurassic Park is a documentary to him.

Yeah, this can be finicky sometimes. Try setting it up away from direct sunlight or other sources of bright glare. QR scanning started working perfectly for me in recent months, but there was a period when I could only get it to work using a large, bright Android tablet. Possibly the big display filled the image, allowing the in-camera exposure to be set only for the tablet's display, without lots of background stuff to deal with. The QR code recognition in the latest batch of Cam v3 I set up (6, at two locations) went perfectly, reading it instantly. This was been a huge, frustrating problem for me in the past. The minimum focus distance of the v3 is about 12". Try in a lighted room that's not too much brighter or dimmer than your phone's screen. I'm not certain about how it derives the scene exposure, but a very bright phone display against a very dark room is a lot to ask of a tiny sensor, as is a dim screen against a very bright background. I cannot figure out why it started working so well for me after a couple years of problems, but... maybe the updated firmware will solve it for you... after you get it connected to the net...

r/wyzecam · Can I use the Wyze Cam v3 just to alert me when my garage door is open?

I use the V3/garage controller to check my garage door at 8:30 in the evening. I use an automation set so that If the door is open it closes it. A stand alone V3 cannot do that. It is controlled by a QR code taped to the door. If the controller "sees " the QR code the door is closed, if not it is open. It's the same as if you looked into the garage and saw the door open and then pressed the button to close it. Not very sophisticated, but it works for my purposes.

    r/wyzecam · Wyze V3 w/ Cam Plus missing events & stops recording

Yea I’m trying to get around that, but not sure it’s possible without constant recording. Still not sure if the SD card would allow that and still bookmark events. What’s weird though is an event will start recording with him already in the box, stop when he’s still and “using it” but then that’s it. No recording of him walking into or out of the room. Maybe I’ll play with the detection zone and sensitivity.

    r/wyzecam · Wyze cam V3 keeps dropping to 0 kb/s

I've been having the same problem on iOS. An easier way to get back to the image without closing the app is, when it happens, tap the gear icon to get to the camera settings, then tap the back button to go back to the video. It seems to work better after that. I hope Wyze fixes this issue soon.

I just got mine today and they all simultaneously ring. I have the chime set and (4) v3 Camera's that all ring simultaneously. I have it all setup in the Doorbell on the "Play From" dialog for Wyze WiFi Chime and Cameras as Chime. Try clicking "Reset Services" and then "Reboot Camera". Go setup all your event/notifications again and then check your chime? Update firmware too if you haven't done that.

I've been expect to need to backflash my cameras to working firmware on my next visit - 1K miles away or it would be done already. This maybe helps with that?

    r/Wyze · New Update Broke 2.4/5ghz Dual-Reception

The connectivity issue you’re experiencing is likely not related to recent firmware updates. The last (non-beta) firmware releases were: • Wyze Cam v3: July 2024 (4.36.13.0416) • Wyze Cam v3 Pro: October 2024 (4.50.5.1318) • Wyze Cam v4: September 2024 (4.52.8.0648) The issue more than likely stems from your router. Having worked a ton with network troubleshooting and testing beta Wyze products, I’ve seen this happen quite often - especially with dual band routers. The problem could be related to DHCP issues where your router isn’t properly assigning IP addresses to devices or there might be conflicts preventing your Wyze cam from establishing a stable connection. Try these if you haven’t already - • Temporarily disable your 5GHz network while setting up the camera • make sure your 2.4GHz network is enabled and broadcasting • power cycle both your router + cam for at least 60 seconds Most dual band/newer routers have a troubleshooting section in their settings that allows you to temporarily disable the 5GHz radio specifically for issues like this. You might also want to check your router’s DHCP settings and lease times if the problem persists. If you’re still having trouble, let me know and I can try to help more.

r/Wyze · Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell is not what I expected

So the second battery has been in for a little over 3 weeks now and the battery is at 77%, so not bad. I think the first battery drained really quickly due to all the work trying to set it up and test it in various scenarios. I do like how fast it goes to live view vs all my v3 cameras. I think I just needed to temper my expectations.

    r/Tapo · C120 Keeps disconnecting

I have a UCG max with 1tb HD and 2 APs. A switch or two in there as well. The cameras sit on the same SSID and vlan as the UCG, as I'm just testing these right now, they would eventually sit in there own vlan. The camera shows an RSSI of -51, which according to Tapo, is good. The AP is maybe like 8 ft from it on the ceiling. This camera is also placed exactly where the wyze v3 camera use to be placed, and that didnt have any issues. Also it is 2 C120s having this issue, the other is placed maybe 1 room away from an AP (different AP). The C110 I also got for test is like 2 rooms away from the AP and that thing hasn't dropped a beat. As far as firmware, I'm updated to the latest firmware on everything (cameras, APs, UCG, and ubiquiti software). I liked these cameras when they were working properly, but this is obviously a big issue. As far as these cameras in Unifi protect, they're ok. I only say that because they dont really do anything aside from record 24/7, and no audio on top of that. I know that the ability to intake onvif is pretty much in beta, so these shortcomings are to be expected imo. I'm hopefully that they do develop it more to be able to detect motion, record audio, etc etc. I do like having all the feeds in one place, and scrubbing through footage is butter smooth and responsive since it's from an nvme HD instead of an SD card.

Any windows? Do you have the green motion box turned on? Sometimes I get a combo of sun coming in through trees that are blowing in the wind, or just going behind clouds creating bright/dark spots that cause a motion detection which then alerts the vehicle detection. You could try turning off vehicle detection for a bit and see if it is just picking up motion. This might be just showing up now if the sun has moved lower now to the right angles to cause an alert. If it’s not just a bug in new firmware.

r/Wyze · memory card sizes and recording length

I have 3 v3's with a 128gb in each. Constant recording is averaging 15 days. The motion activated recording has video going to May when I set it up buts it get very little activity. I have a v2 with 32gb recoding just activity that has a lot of movement and I just realized sound recording sitting next to a TV. But even with that I could not find the first recording. I went back weeks and just gave up, there is no way to go the beginning. Honestly anything more than 128Gb is almost unusable. Getting back to the first recoding of just recoding activity would take hours. Just to scroll back.

r/wyzecam · Using Wyze Cam V3 / V4 outside (and plugged outside too?)

Both are fine. USB is low voltage and quite safe. You could make some improvements if you want though. You can buy a flat usb cable that may allow the window to close a little better. For the outdoor outlet, you can buy a slimer USB block and a roomier outlet cover. The covers have a opening in the bottom for the wire to come out. Also take a look at the face of the outlet and ensure it's marked WR for weather resistant. Outdoor outlets normally should be GFI protected locally or at the breaker.

The sensor in the v3 is very sensitive, but that also means if it’s totally dark it will pick up a lot of noise, which can false trigger motion detection. Dusk setting will use the IR lights when it’s fully dark, see if that clears it up.
