r/TpLink · Severe Security Flaw on Tapo C225: Camera detects a "Person" but takes 11 seconds to trigger "Motion" (Fails to record on Synology NAS) If you're using this for critical security purposes, why are you only saving clips with events? Just save the whole stream for X days of historical data, and use the motion detection events to know you should check a few minutes back in the stream data. Saves your ass in case of other malfunctions, and you said this is *critical* security right? To be honest this seems reasonable of TP-Link sending a motion detection event when they don't detect motion seems like the right call, and if this is such a huge deal breaker for you don't rely on the detection for your critical functions. If anything I'd call out the hardware issue with how long it takes to adjust lighting levels...
r/TpLink · Severe Security Flaw on Tapo C225: Camera detects a "Person" but takes 11 seconds to trigger "Motion" (Fails to record on Synology NAS) Nice AI response 1. Seems the hardware only gets a frame of the person before it gets washed out and needs to adjust lighting level. You can detect a person in a single frame by identifying the part that looks like a human. Much harder to detect motion from a single frame, usually to compare two frames at different times for changes to detect that 2. What are you going to do in the 11 second gap? What's your process to resolve this that works fine if you know 11 seconds sooner? You still get a notification, just 11 seconds delayed. Then you go reference your continuous recording data for the time period shortly before. What are you doing with "critical timestamp" information anyway? Does your process prevent you from pulling the continuous recording for a short interval on both sides of the alert? 3. Cool. Again this seems like a complaint with the TPlink hardware and how long it takes to adjust lighting levels, not a software bug about types of event sent. I already explained how you can detect a person but no motion 4. You misinterpreted my point. Assuming the lack of ability to detect motion is because of hardware, I do think it's reasonable for TP link to say they will not send a notification of a motion event if they didn't actually detect a motion event. Not saying there isn't a problem here, I just think you're focusing on the wrong aspect of it. To be honest we could even interpret your complaint as really being about ONVIF not supporting "human detect" events, and not TP-links fault at all. They send the events they detect that the protocol supports, and the protocol doesn't support one of the event types you want...

r/Tapo · New Tapo Hybrid cams? What's the difference between them and their other cams? Why are they called Hybrid? >HybridCam seamlessly secures both indoors and outdoors. So do my C120s and C225s. I'm not seeing the difference other than the ugly rectangular box on the bottom of the pan/tilt models.
r/Tapo · New Tapo Hybrid cams? What's the difference between them and their other cams? Why are they called Hybrid? The pan/tilt cam I have mounted outside is a C510W which is rain-proof. They also make a few different models that look like the C510W but with different features, most of which are also rain-proof. Their product description is identical to how Tapo is describing the new Hybrid cams. I hope that they at least improved the wifi connectivity on these because wifi strength on the C120s absolutely sucks. The C225s and C510 seem fine. Ironically, literally as I'm typing this post one of my C120s seems to have died.

r/Tapo · Severe Security Flaw on Tapo C225: Camera detects a "Person" but takes 11 seconds to trigger "Motion" (Fails to record on Synology NAS) You're using an indoor only camera to monitor a doorway? You should seriously have a camera outside monitoring it instead. It is also possible that your synology is so under powered that it can't process the information fast enough. As you've returned the camera, there is no way for you to attempt to use it without your synology station.

r/Tapo · Tapo C425 C425 is not a good solution when security actually matters. I just misses a lot of events. With sensitivity set to 10. Direct line of sight and it misses a people, pets, motion even when it takes up a large part of the frame my C510’s, C500, C225’s pick up things that the C426 miss, even from the opposite side of the driveway. Would not recommend this model

The camera may start to behave strangely. It's better to stick with an affordable 12v 1A power source. Just a friendly advice.

r/Tapo · Tapo C325WB for indoors? Don't do it. I tried both the C325WB and C225 indoors and outdoors just to test this. While C325WB looks extremely good outside with good colors even at night time....it fails indoors due to poor indoor colors reproduction. I guess the color grading have been done different for indoor and outdoor cameras. Indoor camera C225 wasn't able to produce the correct grass green color when used outdoor and the C325WB wasn't able to reproduce the correct fabric/wall color when used indoors. It just looks off....don't do it. C225 has enough low light performance for indoors use. It has F1.6 aperture. And use infrared if complete dark indoors.
r/Tapo · Tapo C230 vs C225 C230 has higher resolution but lower bitrate and lower lens aperture thus lower quality. It is better in marketing terms but not in actual product. TP Link is reducing the bitrate of C225 with firmware upgrades for their cloud storage service as per this thread. https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/732162

r/TpLink · TAPO cameras cloud + microSD I use the C225 and haven't found a way to redirect traffic or make it conditional You should use a large (up to 256GB) MicroSD card from a good manufacturer like Samsung. This will mean even if your internet goes down, it won't miss a beat and when your internet comes back, it will sync the new videos with the Tapo Care Cloud You can generally lower the recording resolution under 'Recording & Storage', instead of lowering the quality how about enabling HDR, higher res recordings, without all the huge files Give you and example: Avengers Endgame x264 = 150GB Avengers Endgame HDR10 = 40GB So that means you could literally go months and months without your MicroSD card being full as unlike movies, Tapo Cams record in low bandwidth anyway Higher end camera systems use high bandwidth video that takes up a lot of network resources but the image is much clearer because of it

r/Tapo · New Tapo C225 is essentially useless, constantly loses connection and needs full restart Latest firmware on camera and router, both have been restarted several times. The camera is on the other side of an interior wall, but shows full strength (and there have never been issues with signal strength on any devices in this fairly small apartment, on neither 2.4 nor 5 GHz). I will try to set up a separate access point tomorrow.
r/Tapo · New Tapo C225 is essentially useless, constantly loses connection and needs full restart It appears that resetting the camera and connecting through a separate wifi access point (with a fixed channel, as recommended in a tp-link guide I found), has fixed my problems.
r/Tapo · New Tapo C225 is essentially useless, constantly loses connection and needs full restart Well, we were gone for the weekend. The camera became unresponsive at least four or five times while I was checking on it remotely, but each time it did come back online again after anywhere from a few minutes to around an hour. I will try a separate access point and maybe a reset.

r/Tapo · Severe Security Flaw on Tapo C225: Camera detects a "Person" but takes 11 seconds to trigger "Motion" (Fails to record on Synology NAS) Thank you very much for your interest. My Synology NAS (DS225+) is actually running perfectly and is more than powerful enough. In fact, to avoid losing critical footage due to this Tapo firmware bug, I had to switch the motion detection settings in Surveillance Station from "by camera" to "by NAS." When Synology handles the live video processing and frame analysis itself, detection happens instantly without any delay. This proves that the network and the NAS performance are flawless; the 11-second blind spot only occurs when relying on Tapo's broken ONVIF webhooks. In the diagnostic logs requested by TP-Link’s engineering team, the timestamps of the events sent by the camera and the events received by the NAS match perfectly. There is zero latency or delay in transmission. The delay happens entirely inside the camera's internal state-machine before it even decides to broadcast the event. This camera is monitoring the entrance door of an apartment inside a building corridor. It is, by definition, an indoor environment. But regardless of placement, whether it's indoors or outdoors, a physical firmware bug that suppresses motion webhooks during exposure adjustments will behave exactly the same way. I have not returned the camera. It is still up, running, and being used for this exact comparative testing. Regards.
r/TpLink · Severe Security Flaw on Tapo C225: Camera detects a "Person" but takes 11 seconds to trigger "Motion" (Fails to record on Synology NAS) You are missing the entire point of how NVR integration, event-triggering, and basic software logic work. 1. **The Core Logical Paradox:** How can an AI detect a **"Person"** at 13:16:11, but state that **"Motion"** started at 13:16:22? Unless that person is a ghost that teleported into the frame and stood absolutely frozen for 11 seconds, it is physically and logically impossible to detect a human without motion. The software hierarchy is objectively broken. 2. **The "Continuous Recording" Misconception:** Surveillance Station and most professional NVR setups rely heavily on accurate motion/smart event metadata for **timeline marking, smart search, and alert notifications**. Even if I record 24/7, if the camera fails to send the event trigger during those critical first 11 seconds, the NVR will **NOT** send a push notification to my phone, **NOT** trigger a smart home automation (like turning on other security lights/sirens), and **NOT** mark that specific timestamp as a critical entry. 3. **The Absolute Blind Spot:** In a high-security context, if an intruder enters the door and leaves within that 11-second window, the system registers **ZERO** motion alerts. Good luck digging through terabytes of 24/7 continuous footage manually everyday just because a security camera's AI forgets that humans move. 4. **The Hardware/Software Blend:** You mentioned the hardware issue regarding lighting adjustment—and you are right about that part. But TP-Link’s "fix" was to completely blind the motion sensor and suppress notifications during that transition period. That is a terrible software design choice, not a "reasonable call." A security camera should prioritize alerting the user over suppressing events to keep its logs pretty.

r/Tapo · C225 vs C216 Thanks! that's kinda disappointing about the spotlight considering even my $20 dinky C120 has one. But I don't anticipate using it often since it's in a domestic setting. I saw a couple of reviews on amazon saying that even though the C260 is higher res, that the ability to render proper lighting in various conditions etc was inferior to the C225 so that's mostly what I'm concerned about. Now on the other hand the C216 looks good but may have worse night vision than the c225 and c260, but it has a spotlight

r/Tapo · Tapo C225 Fausse identification I can look into it further and ask the teams any questions you may have. The feature was originally released before the H500 and intended to improve the quality of individual camera detections. I think that there is a limit on how much training or how far back the camera can reference for training, but I am not sure of the specifics. Beyond the H500s facial recognition, I *think* the training is on a per-camera basis, and I am not sure if the AI empowerment feature of the H500 is related.
r/Tapo · Tapo C225 Fausse identification There is an option in the playback section of the app that allows you to mark the detections as another type of detection or false detection. Doing this on a few clips will help train the local AI of the camera to be more accurate going forward. If it is a *consistent* behavior, no matter what you change - please get in contact with our support team directly with a few examples of the detection and their clips. The team can use the images to help improve the AI model I would also recommend adjusting the person detection sensitivity, as setting it too high often leads to false detections.

r/Tapo · I will never purchase another TP product and neither should you I’ve had my one c225 camera for just over a month and it’s gone offline multiple times. r/Tapo · My C225 keeps losing/disconnecting wifi connection. Notting? Also no one with the same problem? In that case it might be a exeptionel case and exchanging it (again) might be the/a solution?

r/Tapo · So I am soon going to be part of Tapo Family ,needed some advice ! Oh, what kind of data does the QUBO plug offer? I'm looking for power usage (above or below a threshold) as a trigger? Person detection is pretty good on the cameras, although I only use my C210 as a nanny cam - I find the higher grade models perform better (C225 > C120 in terms of night person detection) in my limited anecdotal experience. Download of clips only seems to work while on the same network, so no remote/isolated VLAN. So I guess you could screen record while playing back a video as a hacky work around in a pinch. I haven't used the paid cloud option, so that could work for you if you are not onsite and willing to pay I haven't tried blue iris with Tapo gear, but I presume it would work as they are usually compatible with RSTP but you'd probably loose onboard AI.

r/Tapo · New Tapo C225 is essentially useless, constantly loses connection and needs full restart Would suggest 1. Do a hard reset. Set up camera again. 2. If no better, you have a lemon. Get camera replaced. I have multiple tapo cameras and sensors with no problems. When I first got the DS230 doorbell. Could not get the call through to my phone consistently when someone rang bell. A hard reset solved issues.

r/TpLink · Tapo C225 keep freezing Do you have the power supply it came with connected to it, is there anything leaning against it that could make it not be able to move? It sounds like the motors are drawing too much power and restarting it.

r/homeautomation · Tapo cameras - probably the best small, cheap wifi camera with offline use for privacy I am just beginning to explore Tapo cameras and how I can use them to connect to HomeKit and also my new experience trying to use Home Assistant. Sometimes it’s a little bit mind-boggling I have a 120, 125, 225, 217, 500. The 125 and 225 can connect to HomeKit natively. Using scrypted I figured out how to get the 120 and 500 in to HK and they can record in HK as well. The 217 as far as I have found so far and I might be wrong, can only go into scripted in a way they can only be seen in HK, but not able to record. I have an unused raspberry pi 5 that I’m getting ready to explore setting up scrypted add frigate and then figure out if that will help me to replace clips and 24 seven recording like I can do on Wyze cameras. I have a bunch of Wyze cameras, and it is sort of a love-hate relationship. If I can get things nailed down with the Tapo cameras, I might just say adios to Wyze. I wish that they would come to their senses and fully offer RTSP before they lose a bunch of customers to the other cameras that are making that easy to use. It almost seems like Wyze has their head in the sand, ignoring what’s written on the wall.

r/Tapo · Reliable pan/tilt indoor camera under €80? Ciao!

It's working for me too, all of the 13 Tapo cameras (C210, 220, 225, 230, 530, 400). For the first time.
OK, ChatGPT admitted that it was wrong. "You're absolutely right—there isn’t a valid web portal at [`https://my.tapo.com`](https://my.tapo.com) that allows live camera viewing. That was incorrect information, and I apologize for the confusion."
The differences are mainly mechanical. The C225 has a bigger and sturdier body. The camera allows for a wider vertical movement and the horizontal movements are much faster.
