Also still only sold in the US, but that’s hardly a fault of the camera. But they do look neat. Like the size! Exactly how much of the motion detection did they move to a subscription, was it the person detection? To get ahead of any suggestions; I could buy from the US, yes, but with taxes and VAT on top, it’s definitely not a 20$ camera anymore :)

Kinda. Real Time Streaming Protocol. It’s video protocol that allows you to pull the video feel locally from the device, rather than a data center on the other side of the country (probably AWS). The v2’s have some firmware hacks to enable it, but nothing officially supported. Meaning all of your video has to go to Bezos’s spank bank before you get it. It’s a bit of a shit show in terms of privacy. Also, don’t know why you were downvoted. Never be afraid to ask questions. This smart home stuff is getting more and more available to anyone, and companies are actively trying to take advantage of ignorance to harvest data. Granted, it’s typically in the name of selling you advertisements, but Amazon is notorious for selling access to law enforcement.

Real Time Streaming Protocol. It is the standard used for pretty much all security software such as Zoneminder, Shinobi, and Blue Iris. Without RTSP support you can’t use this camera with those platforms.

Does v2 have RTSP? Also, what is RTSP haha.

Sounds like you’ll need more than a $20 camera.

But that is a extremely small margen of people that would do it, it opens up the market for those that will do it and they can make a small amount on a person that otherwise wouldn't even have bought the camera. They also could have it as a paid feature as well, I would be willing to pay $5 to unlock rtsp. $25 for a camera as good as they are is still a worthy price.

I still don’t understand how they can afford to. The margin on the camera must be exactly zero unless they make money by overcharging shipping. With RTSP enabled, people will say thank you, here’s your $1 profit and leave their ecosystem forever (homebridge-ffmpeg and whatnot).

Got mine in and it is sitting in the box until RTSP. Huge fail of a camera for now.

I have Wyze Cam V3's on the inside of my downstairs windows mounted with the Wyze window mount and that has worked just fine for me for the past few years. I have 256 GB MicroSD cards in them and they record continuously. My mom has the Wyze Cam OG's which are newer in window mounts and they work just as well if not better than the V3's. Everything can be controlled from the app no matter where you are. Amazon, Walmart, and their own website are constantly having sales. I think you can get the Cam OG's right now for $19.99. I've been very impressed with the quality and affordability.

I bought 5 Wyze Cam V3 in August 2022 to monitor the house while we are away. Within less than two months, the cameras lost connections one by one. As I chatted with the technical support online, she also couldn't resolve the issue remotely. The ultimate solution she offered was to power cycle the cameras. So we asked a friend to go to my house to unplug and waited for 30 seconds to plug back the cameras one by one. Two weeks later the same thing happened again. All the 5 cameras lost connections one by one in a week. I am really disappointed with Wyze's cameras. If I need to be home to power cycle the cameras repeatedly, what is the point to have them?

The app has Alexa listed as a possible smart integration, but I haven’t tried it myself, so can’t speak to if it actually works. I would check their website or the eufy subreddit to see if anyone has experience with the integration.

If you already have the v2’s [this is the custom firmware that most people use](https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks) to get local access. I don’t know how well it integrates with SmartThings, though. I’m using them with Home Assistant.

Yes, a $9.99 outdoor power supply for the $20 camera. The rest is you imagining something that isn't true.
