    I have the 325wb camera. I only use quality Samsung sd cards and have never seen what you are describing. I think the answer to your question depends highly on your router, your internet connection speeds and your home network congestion. My home system has good wifi signals to all my cams. And both my router and access point hardware are only 20 to 25% utilized so they never cause latency issues. I am currently 11,000 miles from my home and using a vpn … so I have about 350 msec in latency, but once I connect to any of my 6 tapo cameras, the video feed runs without stutter. In my case, I do not think an ethernet connection would improve anything You can easily run a temporary ethernet cable on the floor to your device as a test. You can examine the cpu load on your router and access point. You do not want it hitting 100%. Mine never runs over 30%. If you have heavy duty streaming/gamers in your home, your hardware really needs the cpu power in order to not effect lattency I am not a fan of cheap sd cards. Tried them and they have problems. Now I just buy Samsung EVO Plus cards

    If you have a good wifi signal to your device in comparison to the background noise, then your linkspeed will be based on the hardware compatibility of the router and the device. Older routers may not offer the same linkspeed as they were built to older wifi standards. Newer routers are capable of much higher linkspeeds but are limited by the Asus hardware. Asus cameras do not use 5ghz wifi. All 36 of my Tapo devices are limited to wifi “n” and do not support wifi “ac”, “ax” or wifi 7. They also support only one data stream. So that limits linkspeed to my router which offers multistream faster connections. But in reality, my c120 and c325wb cameras work well.

    -47 is a stronger signal than -62 My c120 has a -49 signal and my c325 wb has -43. Both work well and reliably. In general, if your RSSI is -65 or better, you have a good signal. But a better estimation can be made by comparing your RSSI signal to the background noise on that channel. if you live in a crowded wifi neighborhood, you want your RSSI to be at least 20 dbm better than the background noise. My Asus router tells me that the current background noise is -93 dBm. So my c120 signal is 44 dBm better (93 - 49) than the background noise. That means that my wifi signal is much much stronger than the background noise (I live in residential area). So if your wb has a -62 and your background noise is -82, then your signal is marginal because it is more difficult for your devices to separate the signal from the noise as their is only 20 dBm difference in the signal and the noise

    Only a guess. I think nearby bright room lights will distort the sensor and result in ugly video quality. The sensor is good for diffused lighting like you have outside. I have a 325wb in my backyard. It works great under moonlight conditions. But when the moon disappears (and no light), the video will be nearly black. If you use it inside, I would expect no usable video in a dark room. Turning on a lamp will probably be too much. If you have some diffused ceiling lighting, it probably would work fine

    Leak sensors, door sensors and h100 hub works well for me. I do not see the value in the more expensive hubs for my usage. The motion detector is pretty good … my issues with the motion detector …1) it has a low battery indicator, but i found the motion detector starts to work erratically before the low bat fault appears. Removing the battery and checking it, I found the battery was on the low side but not super low. Changing to a new battery fixed the issue. 2) The sensing distance/range has limited adjustment .. and not consistent … sometimes it will not trigger until a person is 1.5 meters away and other times it will detect a person at 4 meter distance. I have 5 tapo cameras (all connected wireless). The c120/121 cameras are very good but they have an audio issue (the audio recordings include nonexistent clicking sounds). The c325wb is a great camera for low light conditions.

    I think that may be the difference. On your device is the detection. I think the detection does not run in the cloud. Anyway, if it works on the SD card, you might use your SD card for debugging the problem

    I also have the c325wb …. The video quality under low light is exceptional. I have no lighting in my backyard at night other than moon light and the video quality is superb. I have the video set to 2K QHD, Spotlight Off, and HDR Off The artifacts in your video makes me think you have a sensor issue or maybe even a wifi issue (like dropped video frames that you get when transcoding DVD’s) … Do you have the same artifacts in the daytime? What happens if you change video quality to 720P?

    I have a c120. The picture quality at night is great if there is some light available. For example from my front door the night picture quality is outstanding (and in color) since there are a number of street lights providing some background light. However, if I move the camera to the backdoor where there is no street lights the picture quality is not as good. Not enough light to capture the video in color and as the distance in the picture goes beyond 8 or 10 feet everything just becomes dark. Closer than 8 or 10 feet, the picture is in graytone and objects are clear. Both the c120 and c320ws use a starlight sensor, so i think you will not have any difference in night vision quality. There is also a c325wb. This camera has the colorpro sensor that captures considerably more light (as it is bigger) and provides much better night capability.     I do not see why not as long as the poe supply can provide the required amps for both devices. I have been using a cheap 12 vdc supply now for maybe 18 months with no problem. I do not think you want to use a “smart” charger/power supply (like you get from apple or samsung or anker). Those require communication with the device being charged to deliver the correct voltage.     The c325wb camera does very well under only moonlight conditions Get wired cameras if at all possible. You want a good wifi signal throughout your home. You want a very capable router to handle lots of 2.4 ghz connections (none of my tapo devices are 5 ghz capable). I have just one Asus router working in access point mode for a 2000 sq ft home. I have a strong wifi signal everywhere and never suffer from drop out problems .. i have about 50 tapo/kasa devices plus another 20 devices connected to my router. Everything just stays connected and works. My Asus router supports vlans, and I have put all my tapo/kasa devices on one vlan I have 5 cameras. None are ethernet connected as that would be a difficult project. But the wifi connection has always worked for me. All of the cameras have a strong wifi signal. I record everything on camera with SD card. I always use Samsung high endurance cards. All of the Tapo devices offer the ability to show you their wifi signal strength “rssi” value. Use that as a guide to resolve any wifi issue. Ideally, all devices should be reading less than -60 dBm for a solid connection. I have a few that are about -65 but they still work reliably. Once you see signals reaching -70 dBm, you will have problems with dropouts.

    I have been using a 12 volt 1 amp power supply for 6 months or so. The voltage regulator in the camera can handle up to 18 volts with no problem. You need the extra voltage (12 v) to overcome the voltage drop in your long run. You can buy 12 vdc supplies that have screw terminal connections so that you can buy a long cable with jacks and just cut it to length and attach the cut off end to the screw terminals.

    My understanding is the Tapo camera has a voltage regulator chip that steps down the voltage to 5 volts. And that this chip can handle voltage inputs up to 20 volts. I have been using a 12 vdc 1 amp adapter for powering my tapo camera now for 4 or 5 months with no problem. The original tapo 9v adapter would not fit in my outlet box with the cover closed. I also had a longish cable run … and I understand that several people had camera problems using the 9 volt supply and a long cable because of cable voltage drop. Tapo recommended they use a 12 vdc supply to overcome the voltage drop and I understand that resolved the camera issues. Regarding 7.5 volt input, I have never read any comments regarding people trying lower voltages than 9 v. My guess is that the camera voltage regulator chip would handle 7.5 volts as long your power supply can provide 1 amp to the camera without dropping voltage. But if you are trying to share power with other devices, then it really depends on how much power your supply can provide without voltage droop.. If you double the current in your power cable due to adding a camera, we know that the voltage drop across the cable will double … So a 7.5 volt supply will less safety margin than a 9 or 12 volt supply. We know Tapos 9 volt supply droops under load enough that the length of the cable run becomes an issue. If your cable run is only 3 feet, there is not much to worry about … but if your cable run is 20 or 30 feet then the cable voltage drop can be an issue. I have no experience with the nest, but it would not surprise me if the nest can also work with 9 or 12 volt power supplies. If that is true, you could use tour wiring and just upgrade your power supply (But you also need to verify that the cable is rated for the extra current)

    Hi, i was reading this post looking for power supply solutions for my tapo camera. I noticed you recommended the low profile usb C charger PD 3.0 charger. Does this charger work with your camera? I previously tried to power my camera with a usb c PD 2 charger and it would not work. I believe it did not work because the PD spec starts an output voltage of only 5 volts (tapo requires 9) and will not increase that voltage unless the the device negotiates correctly with the charger over the usb c cable … the problem is that tapo camera does not have a usb data connection … So in my experience only “dumb” chargers work my camera. So I would like to confirm your experience, which cable and camera you are using. Thanks.

    I have a C325WB mounted on the front of my garage and it originally was using wifi but the connection kind of sucked so I ran some Cat 6 cable thru the garage. When I plugged it in and went inside, it was already showing a video feed using the same IP (I sent up the port on the router to use the same IOT vlan), so i didn't have to do anything with the camera, it just auto-reset itself to ethernet once it recognized there was a cable connected. I'd assume yours will do the same.

    I think you made a great decision! However, next time, consider buying the Tapo C120, Tapo C325WB, or their latest models instead of older versions. The newer ones are more reliable with significant technological improvements. One major drawback of Tapo cameras is their low bitrate, which causes a noticeable drop in video quality. Additionally, the motion detection feature is just average, with around 70% accuracy. For instance, it sometimes misidentifies pets as humans or vehicles. On the bright side, detection is free, which is a great benefit. While the accuracy isn’t perfect, it’s still much better than most cheaper alternatives and can be relied upon for general use

    Agreed, you got water/dew/condensation on the "lens" (outer clear cover) of the cam. Or the window glass in front of it if it's mounted inside. Can't tell 100% but the street *looks* wet, so there's your 2+2. These cameras are a bit prone to this because the front face is quite large and they have no weather cover/shield. So even if they're mounted under moderate roof cover, if there's a bit of wind too then that can still blow rain or snow around to reach the cam. However you can get a bunch of different shape and size camera weather hoods/covers/shields on ebay, Ali, temu etc for 3-10 bucks.

    The c246d on the other hand will use IR to see at night time, which works better in our situation. We have 2 dogs that sometimes like to go out in the middle of the night, and the c325wb would miss recordings, where the c246d would not only detect them, but has a further viewing range due to IR. Plus it can track multiple angles at the same time. I'll replace the rest of the 325wb's with the 246d's, and repurpose them in other areas.     There are definitely pros and cons. I will say, the 325wb seems to have the edge on quality in the day time, but at night it's not so sharp. Especially during movement, and you can only see within a close-moderate proximity with the spotlights on.     Don't do it. I tried both the C325WB and C225 indoors and outdoors just to test this. While C325WB looks extremely good outside with good colors even at night time....it fails indoors due to poor indoor colors reproduction. I guess the color grading have been done different for indoor and outdoor cameras. Indoor camera C225 wasn't able to produce the correct grass green color when used outdoor and the C325WB wasn't able to reproduce the correct fabric/wall color when used indoors. It just looks off....don't do it. C225 has enough low light performance for indoors use. It has F1.6 aperture. And use infrared if complete dark indoors.

    I'll give you my experience with it but please bear in mind I'm using it with Frigate for my NVR and object recognition and alerting via home assistant. **Configuration:** For the initial setup you have to use the app - to setup its wifi connection, primary stream resolution, remove the logos from the image and to setup the spotlights if needed. You also enable RTSP in the app and set your RTSP username and password there. I've also set it up so it reboots nightly, as a "keep alive" failsafe in case of network interruption or any other issue that may cause it to hang. **Power:** I've got them hardwired to my mains circuits, using IP67 rated LED drivers. That is because I personally found the power plugs to be far from ideal when hard mounting these for a permanent installation - tapping into a mains junction box and using a power driver there is far more convenient and it can easily be hidden in a small waterproof box. The included power supply I believe is 9V instead of 12V but the internal camera buck converter IC can easily handle 12V. Do bear in mind that the higher voltage actually helps in case you need to have a longer "run" from the camera to the power supply as it also solves the voltage drop issue over a longer line that is present if you get an extender to the included power supply. You could feasibly run a POE injector and POE splitter and power it that way, or one that steps down a 48V POE to 12 V etc. **Networking & picture settings:** The camera is 2.4ghz only, so do keep that in mind, however I haven't found any issues with range or signal stability. I did not check if the antennas can disconnect as I'm using them over WiFi. Also the camera does not offer any bitrate settings from what I've found. That is annoying as I do feel the quality could be even better if it allowed for slightly higher transfer rates but what can you do... In addition it offers a sub-stream (second RTSP stream) with 720p resolution and 20 FPS which can be used for motion detection purposes in your NVR (I'm using that in frigate to run the object detection via coral). However you cannot adjust the frame rate for either the main or sub stream, at least on the current firmware. You can also do things like enable the spotlights if motion is detected by the camera, object recognition etc but I am personally not using any of these features as I've got frigate running which is miles better than any object detection on-camera. So I just have the spotlights on some of the cameras to come on when dark and turn off in the morning when the sun is up. For medium distances, like around 30-40 meters the spotlights are fantastic. For longer distances you're better off having them off and leaving the camera do its magic with gain adjustment and the starlight sensor. **Summary:** From my perspective the big appeal for this camera is the image quality. I wanted a camera that is easy to mount (mains wiring only) and offered very good day and excellent night time image quality and it can also integrate easily with Frigate. These things it does very well and it has been super reliable for the past month or two that I have it installed. The latter part is very important for me as the location that its installed is a good 6+ hours away from me. So I need it to work reliably without needing resets/manual intervention. It could do better, namely by 1. Allowing adjustments to the bitrate as there is definitely even more quality to be had 2. Allowing to pick the resolution and FPS for the sub stream to reduce detection load on my frigate instance 3. Doing on device AAC audio encoding so I dont have to do it on the frigate server. I cannot pass any judgement on the app itself and how good the Tapo cloud offerings are as I have not used any of them beyond the initial setup. I have 16 tapo cameras in the property (4x C325WB's and 12 C110s) so using the Tapo app and services is a no-go for me as paying for a subscription or using my broadband uplink just to stream video constantly is pretty much impossible with that many cameras. Also the whole matter of data privacy and the infinitely more control over automations and notifications via Homeassistant. Hope this helps you out!!

    As dark as you can get in a residential area - there are street lights on the road outside the property and a light on the patio to the right which shines a bit of light on the drive way as you can see. I’ll grab you a screenshot from the rear of the property where we only have the street lights to see what it’s like. But in general I’m very impressed with their performance, they have delivered fantastic quality for the price. Also the tp link website had them on a decent sale a month or so ago when I got them (I’ve bought 4). Finally they work excellently with frigate which is what I’m using for NVR and object detection / alerts

    The picture often flickers and shows noticeable artifacts. Changing hardware/software decoding doesn't seem to help. Can't say I have that issue but I'm wired for Ethernet. Maybe wifi issue? ------------ The audio sounds muffled, almost like it's underwater, even in the Tapo app. I don't have this issue but tapo cameras aren't great with audio for sure. ------------ • The field of view feels narrower than the C325WB, although the pan/tilt does help a bit. All PTZ have more narrow fov versus fixed cameras. It's just the way it is, rarely do you pan a wide angle. ------------ Night vision is quite poor, especially compared to the ColorPro sensor on the C325WB. Yeah, it's not a low light sensor that goes down to f1.0. it's not designed for that. Some situations IR is better than a low light sensor, some it isn't. Just depends on the location and ambient light. If there isn't much ambient light the c325 wouldn't be able to be used. ------------ It's also missing some useful automation options, like being able to control when it switches between day and night modes. ? You can manually control that through live view. Press where it says auto ------- That being said I agree the c325wb is sorta an enigma. If they released a 4k sensor it would be amazing.

    Hmmm…thanks for these comparison pics. I wonder how the C325WB compares to the new Eufy C31. I am not expecting the C31 to be great since it is only 1080p, but the big nice trade off is that it is pan/tilt. I really wish Tapo would make a pan/tilt version of the C325WB that also has IR capabilities. The two C520WSs I have seem so outdated when it comes to the night vision. Low light cams need to become the new norm, looks like that might finally start happening if competition starts doing good things.

    Mostly Wyze, but got the C325WB when it was on sale. Will switch out Wyze for Tapo as they go down, or I get a good deal. The uptime, and free on device AI detection that just plain works is worth it. If a human was messing with my car at 3am, I can be alerted for that. Who would ever trust their sleep to Wyze detection ... off device at that?

    I am delighted with my tapo cameras. I have several different models but without a doubt the ones I like the most are the 2 outdoor ones. The C325WB records super well at night, I've had it for 2 years, I had it with an SD card and no problems with heavy rain. And the C246D is excellent. I configure them with Alexa so when they detect movement outside they activate my SONOFF smart switches.

    Yes, on the PTZ cameras you can. I have 10 Tapo cameras, a mix of C520WS and C325WB and the fps is adjustable on the 520's but not the 325's. As others have mentioned, ensure the powerful frequency is set to 60 hz to unlock the 30 fps.

    I just checked my C120 and I found this too. Furthermore, the best Tapo camera that I have, and one with the biggest sensor in the entire lineup, the C325wb, also does not have an FPS adjustment. Does anyone know why there is this inconsistency across all the models? It almost seems like an intentional choice by Tapo to not make this option available.

    How reliable is your wifi network for the Tapo cameras? I keep hearing that one should use PoE for maximum reliability. I am currently testing a variety of Tapo cameras (C100, C120, C325WB), all using wifi, and so far, I have not experienced ANY problems with using wifi, but it has only been a couple of weeks. For maximum reliability, I had been thinking of switching most of the cameras to be the C325WB because of its ability to use a hardwired ethernet port (V2 hardware seems to have improved its ethernet port to be PoE). Because I have not experienced any connectivity issues, I am wondering if going PoE is fully necessary now. After my test, and for the rollout, I plan to have the cameras on their own dedicated network, both so that they don't compete with the computers and devices on my home network as well as for security purposes. Not that I don't trust Tapo cameras; I plan to have other "smart" devices on the "camera" or "IoT" network. For convenience, it would be great if everything could use Wi-Fi.

    It says 9V but I saw a video where someone was running it with 12V no problem--but don't take my word or recollection as authoritative. 0.6A constant will drain a standard 9V battery in short order. I don't think it will even last a day. But LiFePO4 batteries can be huge. In my van, I have one that is 12V 560Ah. It's the size of a large car battery. But it has the capacity of 3500 to 4000 9V batteries! It might run your trail cam for a YEAR on one charge. (But you may need a device to convert 14.6V to 12V to prevent harm to the camera.)

    Some of the newer ones like the C120 or C325WB actually have really solid low-light performance, especially with their color night vision. As for bitrate, yeah — the live view can be compressed, but the recorded footage (especially in HD or using RTSP) is much clearer and totally usable, even for evidence. I totally get that Arlo has more advanced features and accessories, but depending on the setup, Tapo can still hold its own pretty well — especially for the price.

    Thanks for your post. My camera is connected through wifi. Before the update the camera sometimes skipped a couple seconds of recording, now that is fixed but a lower resolution in return. I wish they would just reduce the FPS a little bit while containing the same quality. Hopefully its a bug and gets fixed.

    In regards to the driveway question. I would not expect the C325WB to trigger detection at that range. It's not a matter of video quality, it's the distance (the nicest 8k camera would struggle, as at 300 feet it's hard to get enough pixels will be changing/showing movement even with max sensitivity). To trigger at that distance you would need a camera with a substantial optical zoom.  We use an outdoor driveway motion sensor at the end of our driveway (triggers an audible chime and phone notifications). It is not Tapo.

    If the current adapter is plugged into a power outlet, you can absolutely reuse the existing electrical cable by connecting it to the transformer provided by Tapo. Leaving some slack, you cut the cable from the existing transformer, cut the cable from the Tapo transformer, and connect the Tapo transformer to the cable running through your attic. (I personally like using Wago connectors for electrical work — they’re really clean — but any standard wire connector will do.) Then, do the same at the other end of the cable to connect the camera adapter (which might be different for Tapo). It’s low voltage / low current, so there’s no real risk — your electrical cable in the attic remains just an electrical cable.

I'm primarily using it to capture wildlife coming to the garden overnight and was expecting great results based on some comments i'd read. Unfortunately its not lived up to the promise for me, so wondering if I go back to IR for nighttime viewing, or if there's a better model that may do more of what I want.

It is possible that the camera supports PoE - but we really do not have any insights into the non-US models.     Generally they are not too long, if I were you I'd look into Wireless or PoE cams if you need to put them somewhere where a power outlet is not handy.     Unfortunately, my need right now is for a battery operated wifi camera, so the C120 and C325WB won't work for my use case. And, to be frank, the Wyze v4 cameras I have work really well, and I wouldn't be looking to replace them. I'm just looking for a non-Wyze alternative as backups for my entryways in case of an outage or something similar. I have a Ring stick up camera where the Tapo was, and it is significantly better at motion detection than the Tapo camera was, but it doesn't offer pet, vehicle, or package detection and obviously there is a subscription. I think next I'll be trying Reolink.

    I recently put in a Tapo C325wb. It was an upgrade from a years old Blink camera that I was unhappy with. So far the C325wb has been fantastic. Great image quality, responsive, app works well, and has a nice feature set as far as detection and other options. I hardwired it becuase the wifi signal was almost nonexistant in that spot. Installation and setup were quick and easy except for two things: I don't have power nearby this spot. The Blink cameras ran off USB-C so I had some long cords to reach the outlet. The C325wb uses DC barrel plug power so I couldn't reuse the USB cords, I had to purchase DC Barrel extenders. And for the ethernet, I bought a flat cord only becuase it happened to be the right price for the legnth I needed. When it came time to install, I found that the flat cord doesn't really fit properly in the weatherproof enclosure that come with the cameras, it's really only designed for round cords.

    I tried out the C320WS for a driveway camera and it would be decent as an outside camera but it’s missing some key features that made me go with another C325WB. The C320 is currently unable to play alarm sounds through smart actions which reduces its functionality as part of an alarm network. The C320 is missing some AI detection that the C120 and C325 have (animal, vehicle and I don’t remember but maybe even line detection). The C320’s alarm function only flashes the spotlight instead of turns it on for a set time (5-30 seconds) like the other cameras. The C120 is seems to have a better feature set probably because it’s newer but it’s not as well suited to be an outside camera due to not having external WiFi antennas and being powered by usb-c. I use PoE splitters to power my outside cameras with long Ethernet cables. I do use a C120 inside the house looking out a window and it works good for that purpose.

    The 325ws can be hardwired as well (neither are POE but both have physical power and Ethernet jacks.) I've got the 520 and for my use (mounted on top of the garage in the eaves where I had a hardwired CCTV camera previously) I think the 325 would have been better as the night vision is dramatically better than the 520 and my camera hardly ever moves, but the power jack at my old camera used was the exact same so I didn't have to rewire anything. 6ish months later I'm looking at the 325 and putting a price watch on it. There is supposedly a 525 coming soon (it was announced at CES in 2023) that takes the 325 image sensor and adds POE support so I'm trying to hold off on replacing the 520 with the 325 as long as possible, but knowing what I know now I would have bought the 325 for straight driveway monitoring. For indoor use the enhanced night vision might make the 325 a stronger camera for you if you don't need more of a fov than the 325 has (127 degrees diagonal) to see the entire area. The 520 has a bit smaller fov (112) but it can rotate as well as move up and down via the app (or in sentry mode) so it really is 360deg. Of course, if you buy the 325 you have even more money to throw at the 525 when it eventually comes out 😛

    I'm now looking at the C325WB (thanks for the heads up) to replace a Lorex/Dahua (LNB8105X / IPC-HFW1831C-PIR). Looks like it's pretty much on par in terms of field of vision. Does the camera support direct connection (i.e. http) in order to configure it, or you must use an app. While it has ethernet it's not POE (weird decision). I don't find any info on this camera for RTSP or ONVIF supported, the latter would ideal especially if it sends ONVIF motion detection messages on which a NVR can trigger recording. Can those antennas be removed if used over ethernet? Thanks

     I ended up getting  one c325wb, one c320ws for cameras and one d130 doorbell. To replace my wyze cams and wyze doorbell.  I am happy with all of the tapo's  but the night vision on the 325wb is really good, almost like daytime... They all seem to go on sale on Amazon pretty often and are a good deal on sale... I run the cameras all through ethernet to synology nas and had no issues setting them up or their operation. I using 256gb and 512 sd cards with no subscription and the cameras just work👍 Now I'm just trying to find somewhere with stock of the c720 floodlight  to finish my Wyze swap out. For the price they are a solid buy
