r/homeowners · What’s the BEST home security camera right now??

I’m very invested in the Eufy universe with 11 cameras so far. I’ve tried a lot of their models and their current best is the S340 hands down and is routinely on sale for $119/129/139 any time there’s an Amazon event (Amazon Big Spring Sale starts 3/25). The E42 is trash and the only model I really regret buying. Don’t get sucked in by it being 4K. The solar functionality works well across models and most store and forward so they continue in the event of a power outage. There’s a couple nagging issues but livable considering no monthly charges. The water detector units are great for remote monitoring also

    r/eufy · Solo cam S340 help

Another option could be to get their upgraded solar panel. It's about 15 on Amazon and comes with its own mounting hardware. I have the same camera for about 2 years and the stock panel died on me after about a year. The upgraded panel is slightly larger, works better on minimal sun days, and comes with a longer cable that you could choose to mount it further away from the camera (which is nice if you want to mount the camera in a area that doesnt get much sun).

I just bought one Eufy S340 as an initial test of Eufy to replace my Arlo's. So far so good and I don't even have the Eufy homebase hub which adds some additional AI motion detection and centralized storage. I plan to continue the test and migrate all my Arlo cams to Eufy as they go on sale...

    r/EufyCam · Eufy Review

I think this is one of those ymmv things. My S300 eufycam 3 set have been in use for a long time, since the cameras we're introduced and still going strong. I do have them mounted under the eave with external aftermarket panels and they do not show the delaminating that many describe after having them mounted directly in the sun. The S340, also mounted under eave with aftermarket panel has been solid since new for the last year as well. For solar cameras, I think mounting them directly in the sun kills them, they are a cheap plastic, which sucks for the consumer but good for eufy as it means you buy more. I haven't tried the covers but they may help.

Oh wow! Yours has a lot more settings, but it's kind of similar, though. Mine doesn't have detection range, so I can't turn that off. I think you have the E340. I'll try turning the motion all the way down to 1. I do hope that it picks up humans at 1 lol

r/SecurityCamera · WiFi and solar security cameras.

For install-and-forget solar, I would lean toward the [Reolink Altas PT Ultra](https://featherab.com/shopit?q=Reolink%2BAltas%2BPT%2BUltra%2Bsolar%2BWiFi%2Bsecurity%2Bcamera) with a larger solar panel, tbh, mainly because battery capacity and panel size matter more than headline resolution. I ran a solar camera in a shaded spot before, and the failure point was never the app first, it was the battery slowly losing ground after a few cloudy days. The [Eufy S340](https://featherab.com/shopit?q=Eufy%2BS340%2Bsolar%2Bsecurity%2Bcamera%2Bdual%2Blens%2Btracking) has strong detection features, but if you already expect low ambient light, plan on weaker color night performance unless there is some nearby light. I would avoid tiny included panels and budget for upgraded solar panels from day one.

r/eufy · So is the only outdoor camera that can "patrol" the wired floodlight?

ah yeah I saw that today and returned the s340 kit to get this one. Annoying that even hardwired the S340 doesn't support this. I understand that most the time it's solar powered, but would have been nice to override that. Also having to send all the parts back and reorder the base station... But at least it's a cheaper kit then for my needs

r/eufy · So is the only outdoor camera that can "patrol" the wired floodlight?

Well when I was planning the setup I have a house corner that has about a 270 FOV (180 front and 90 back yard/side gate). I was hoping it would pan that space then if it sees motion would follow/record. It was more because having it look at 160 degrees leaves the "right" of the frame open unless additional cameras were used and I thought having a camera "patrol" would be less costly and camera heavy than 2-3 cameras tryin to see that space.

    r/eufy · I'm tired of blink.

I’ve been pretty happy with the S340. I like that it does the auto tracking of people when spotted. I do feel like the image has gotten a little soft over time but I think that’s because I may have used Windex too many times to clean the outer lens and as I later found out it can be bad for that outer protective lens. The quality of my other cameras is really good, and coincidentally Windex was not used on them, so just remember to use water and a soft cloth. The E340 has worked well in the two or so years I’ve had it. I keep my porch light on overnight and the camera on the E340 is good enough with that porch light that I don’t have to use the night vision mode and can keep everything in color. The two issues I had/have: • The E340 has a pre-record setting that is supposed to include 4 seconds before motion is detected. It’s only for wired installs and when I tried this setting it kept causing the doorbell to disconnect from WiFi. I eventually just stopped using this feature. • Recently the doorbell shows perpetual charging icon. Before it would just show a plug symbol. But people started noticing the charging icon staying on and not going away. Even with new firmware I still only show it charging to 90%. The doorbell still works fine and it could be the battery needing replacement. • I have Google fiber with real world speeds of 900+ mbps up and down and yet sometimes the doorbell is a couple seconds to load. Or when someone rings the doorbell, the app can take about 4-5 seconds to show me the live footage. Two-way audio can be choppy or delayed too but honestly even my old Google Nest doorbell had choppy two-way. The Homebase 3 (S380) has worked well in connection with my cameras. I can expand the size with an SSD drive up to 16TB. I currently have a 1TB drive in and it gets me about three months of recording with one camera being 24/7. I did choose to not pair my indoor cameras with the HB3 as I found out that doing so causes you to lose access to certain features that come with particular indoor cameras. The main one being Privacy Mode where my E30 cams can turn off and spin around to face a wall. If I connect those to the HB3 then I lose Privacy mode ability. All footage is encrypted on the HB3 and even trying to read the SSD on a PC or laptop will just give you an error that the drive can’t be read. Good for privacy.

    r/eufy · Outdoor cameras: S340, E340 or S330?

Just to answer a couple of your questions. * The E330, not S330, I believe is the only camera in their line up right now that can record 24/7 due to it being wired to power. Solar, while it helps to keep the batteries on the S340 topped off, it doesn't have enough power to do 24/7 recording. I have both the E330 and S340 and I love the pan and tilt tracking, and zoom of the S340 so hopefully they can make a wired version that does 24/7 as I would probably replace the E330 that faces the front yard. * While the cameras have a nice amount of onboard storage, the Homebase 3 allows you to install an SSD drive for expanded storage, up to 16TB. This means you'll have the ability to store footage for longer than having it overwrite events sooner. * For cloud storage here are the cloud storage plans available. https://preview.redd.it/cbj9d49szv6e1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a283698617865f8612bb448cb449a5655da1ae51 They do mention

r/SecurityCamera · Every "best outdoor security camera" guide I found contradicts the last one. Real owners only, what actually works in 2026

**I went through the same spiral last year so here is what actually stuck for me.** **Arlo Essential XL is solid hardware and image quality is good. the problem is person and vehicle tagging and anything past basic motion alerts sits behind a paid tier. I keep telling myself I could live without it and then it annoyed me again each weeks.** **Reolink Argus 4 Pro is legitimately good. I went other direction mostly because of the multi camera app experience, not because the camera itself was bad.** **What I ended up with is eufy SoloCam S340, running it six months now. the no subscription story holds in real use. Clips lands on about 8GB of internal storage, you can get to them in the app, no plan needed for the basics. HomeBase 3 is optional if you want centralized storage later, you do not need it just to skip a monthly fee. The dual lens help on a driveway, wide for coverage, tighter view for plate level detail. Night vision uses a spotlight for color, IR when it is fully dark.** **But,S340 is event based recording, not 24 hour continuous like a wired NVR setup. different product if you need always on recording.** **It fit me because it is standalone with no hub required, the no sub promise stayed true day to day, and the dual lens solved my driveway layout. Your priorities might weight things differently, still worth a shortlist spot.**

r/homesecurity · Reolink Argus PT Ultra (4K) solar vs Eufy S340

The Eufy solocam S340, no debate on that. You are comparing a single lens camera with a dual one. And the argus pt ultra doesn't have as good performance at day or night compared to the Eufy S340. A better comparison would be the Trackmix battery powered vs Eufy solocam S340, and the Eufy would still win there, because it has better detection and tracking. The trackmix looks a bit better at day/night, IMO, except when you are comparing IR night footage of both. I think they are about the same, maybe the Eufy is slightly better there.

Hey. Yeah I did the solar one for the south corner of my home. But I have not had any luck getting it to charge all winter. I just shut it off and hope that when it warms into the 40’s-50’s it will start charging up the battery. Unless there is a connection issue. I won’t know. I’ve tried to turn on the panel to charge on sunny days but the percentage goes down.

r/eufy · Homebase 3 necessary for S340 camera or not?

No home base needed though I got two annoying issues with them. Had 3 for 3+ months now. They kept showing as offline but would wake up if there are motion. Tested and validated with the units real close to router. The other issue is that they stopped charging at a certain percentage (one at 53 and one at 82). Support had me taken them down and USB charged them to full. It had not occurred yet after that.

r/homesecurity · Eufy camera incoming - what would be the right home software to run?

Wrong brand and camera to do this on. Most "WiFi" tier cameras are fairly walled into their own software suite and propritary access. Some Eufy cameras support RTSP access, but the S340 does not. Assuming you wanted to get this to work... the biggest hurdle is interfacing with the app.. I'd... probably do something like this...: 1. Bluestacks Android Emulator Installed on PC 2. Script / Automation to click on the saved clips 3. Save the clip locally to bluestacks emulator 4. Have Google Photos (or similar software) automatically sync anything saved in eufydir (where the default video save is at for the app) to cloud or server Its not terribly hard, but... its... not really the right solution for the problem you're trying to solve. This is basically what I do today, manually, on my phone. So I don't see why it couldn't be automated...
