r/Tapo · How to really make leaving/coming home automation work for C210 cameras?

r/Tapo · How to really make leaving/coming home automation work for C210 cameras?

    r/Tapo · Geofencing doesn't work again..

I deleted all the automations and redid them. Apparently it seems to work, we'll see over the next few days. But it's annoying to have to redo everything.

    r/Tapo · Geofencing doesn't work again..

I installed the IFTTT app but I couldn't add the activation/deactivation command for the cameras 🤔 I have a Google camera for the hallway and I have no problem with that one and it works with 5G when I leave and come home, I don't understand the madness.

    r/Tapo · Geofencing doesn't work again..

When I first got my cameras a few months ago, I had the same issues, but Tapo later fixed the bugs in their updates. Their support was very helpful — they asked me to install a trial app and send them the logs whenever the problem occurred. I also set up a smart automation that sends me a notification every time I leave or arrive home, so I can tell when it’s working. That said, once or twice in the past few weeks I did receive an “arrive home” notification while I was already at home.

Thanks for your reply. Oh I see... well, I guess I'll just give up on IFTTT and hope that Tapo updates their geofencing. Don't know why it's not working. I have Arlo cameras at the office and their geofencing works 100%!

Hi, thanks for this. I tried with IFTTT (which I'm just discovering) and when I try to choose the Tapo device (after having connected to my Tapo account), it says ''no options available''. Not sure what I'm missing...

I've just done this by creating a blocking rule on my firewall, now if I load the app the camera shows disconnected, but the rtsp stream is still active in HA. It does also mean you can't use the app even when connected to your own WiFi as it seems they route the traffic back to their servers first.

    r/reolinkcam · A Real-World User Review of Reolink Products

yeah, that sounds like user error.... surely you know that nowadays every tech company uses the word 'Ai' to describe any process that their product does using a processor... even a basic digital thermostat could be classed as having artificial intelligence as it's technically 'thinking for itself' by monitoring the temperature and turning your heating / AC units on and off in response to the temperature fluctuations. And if you needed more storage, why not get the RLN36 NVR which can take 48TB worth of HDD's, that would have been a hell of a lot cheaper than the home hub pro as it does not come with HDD's, but as you have your own anyway that's not an issue, Or set up a simple NAS box and FTP the data from the NVR over to larger HDD's when it's internal HDD is getting full. : i bought (19 so far) reolink cameras and an NVR knowing it's consumer grade cctv gear, the main feature over others for me is it runs 100% local without the need for sending your video and data to a server in china for processing and back, and charging a monthly fee to do so. And reolink gear has great integration into Home Assistant. My reolink cameras are much better than the tapo ones i had before, which don't even give you the ability to change picture settings like saturation, contrast, brightness, or bitrate etc, and they only have a phone app to control them unless you have a HA server, and then they are very process intensive i found. . I have just replaced the tapo C100 and C210 cameras i had watching over my 3D printers, as in home assistant it was constantly running at 95% processor use to display 2 x 2k and one 1080p stream from them. I now have a pair of reolink E1 Zoom 4K cameras replacing the tapo C210's, and a lumus pro replacing the C100, And on the exact same home assistant printer overview page with just the camera feeds changed to the reolink ones, the HA server processor sits at about 5%, and that's sending 3 x 4K streams at their max bitrate!! : My other reolink cams are in the garden, 9 x colourX cams, a trackmix, 823A, 81MA, couple of lumus 2K cams in nestboxes, a doorbell cam etc. They took a bit of dialing in but i have them working just how i want them now, I use a 16 channel 410 NVR, and i did not want the cameras running on the home network so i run the NVR in non hybridge mode, so each camera runs on the NVR's private 172 subnet, Even the lumus wifi cams do, as i plugged a POE wifi AP into one of the NVR's camera ports, and that lets the wifi cameras connect directly to the NVR and use it's private 172 subnet too, This was even more handy as i have the wifi AP on the end of a \~25 meter cat6 cable as it's located in the shed, my home wifi barely makes it outside the house walls due to their construction, so this method gives the wifi cameras in the garden a decent signal out there and keeps them on the private subnet and off the main network.

    Détection IAQualité-prixStockage local
r/homeassistant · Tapo Care camera feed issues with HA

    >Don't quote me on this, but my understanding is that Tapo cameras have a certain number of feed streams they can "serve", and Tapo Care will be taking one of them yeah that is true, i often get the 'too many connections' error on the tapo phone app for my remaining tapo cam in the garden, often it's from refreshing the HA dashboard showing that feed and the old 'memory' of the last connection got stuck that triggers this, I've grown to hate tapo cams, and all but one of the 5 i had now reside in my 'box of things to harvest parts from' I switched to reolink cams and have 23 of them now... BUT even they have a connection limit for the high resolution streams, : I often wonder if i'm the only one who hates tapo cams, i had 3 streams from them on a HA dashboard, and it would use \~95% of my HA server - (Pi 5) processor use, to display a 1080p stream and 2 x 2k streams (1 x TC60 and 2 x C210 tapo cams) That same dashboard showing 3 x 4k streams from the reolink cams i replaced the tapo ones with sits at about 6% cpu usage !! The reolink cams are 1 x lumus pro and 2 x E1 zoom's, the newest 4k models, And the tapo C530WS i have in the garden has never played well with HA, always freezing or failing to load the stream, no matter what integration i tried from the tapo camera control to frigate, WebRTC etc, an the basic picture entity card to advanced camera card.

    r/Tapo · Do I need a H200 hub for 5 C320WS cameras?

this will probably get deleted for mentioning a competitor.... but i switched over to using reolink (R) cameras, mostly as we didn't get on with the tapo phone app as the only way to play back recordings on the SD cards. we now have 9 (R) cameras and a 16 channel NVR (with the tapo cams being recorded by the (R) NVR using their onvif streams... can't control the pan/tilt of the C210's, C530ws via the (R) NVR, nor change camera settings, so still use the tapo phone app for that... but the tapo pan/tilt cams are set up to auto track things and it does that on it's own. The best thing is the (R) PC client, so much easier to view multiple cameras recordings on a big monitor sat at the PC / laptop / mac (or use the phone app if you don't have arthritic fingers that makes using a phone painfull) No subscriptions either, everything runs locally for me, and all my (R) cameras except 2 are POE (i have a poe wifi AP on the NVR's private subnet for those 2 wifi only cams, so not camera traffic touches my home network unless i am viewing the live stream or recordings on the PC client or phone app. : Tapo have been saying they will be releasing NVR's, more 'pro-sumer' cameras etc, but things tend to move very slowly it seems, there is the TP-Link Vigi stuff, but that stuff is more aimed at businesses, offices, shops and factories etc with stuff like object removal detection etc.

There is zero way as your university uses WPA3. There is zero way to use this as a web cam, which is what is appears you are trying to do.

r/Tapo · Camera for toddler room

Sounds like you just need a basic camera and the C210 should fit the bill. If you want "more coverage" you could try one of the dual cams like the C245D. Extra wide lens, though you do need a wedge for the mount as the stationary camera only tilts down 10 degrees.

    r/Tapo · Order of priority

In the Tapo app, if you turn “notifications” on, you can choose an activity type and a schedule for when it is active, and also enable push notifications to your phone. If this will not give you what you want, then you can create automations. Automations allow for more flexibility and customization of the camera schedule/notifications. If you create an automation to send you a notification when activity is detected BUT do not disable “notifications”, you may receive two notifications if there is overlap of the automation and the notification schedule. There is no priority …. Both will work in parallel. In general, I usually disable “notifications” and create my own automations to detect/send notifications. There is a confusing point here … disabling “notifications” has no impact on notifications created by automations.. Automation notifications are sent regardless of the “notification” setting. You should think of the “notification” setting as a quick/easy way to create a schedule and send notifications when activity is detected. For more granular control use automations and turn off “notifications”. You can use both together but then you need to manage smartly the automations so you do not receive multiple alerts for the same event. To control recording use the “privacy mode” setting. This can easily be controlled in automations. When privacy mode is enabled, the camera is not recording, there is no live feed and no event detection. When privacy mode is disabled, there is a live feed, video recording and event detection is available. Again, all of this can be controlled easily via automations. You can also manually enable/disable privacy mode

    r/Tapo · Tapo C200 or C210?

I have a Tapo C210. The video streaming works well with the app. The video clarity is good. But person detection and motion detection is crappy at best. The person detection is always sending me false alarms. When i review the video feed, there is absolutely nothing changing… no people, no pets, no movement, no lighting changes, no shadows. It will detect a person, but with so many false alarms, it becomes annoying. The motion detection is questionable. I have my irobot vacuum cleaning the floor on auto. It is about 13 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall. It is black and cleaning an offwhite floor. The motion detection has NEVER detected this thing moving back and forth in front of the camera as it cleans. It will detect me, however, if i walk into the room (but that is redundant to the person detection)

    r/Tapo · Setting up a security system

You can do everything you want with the h100. Your camera works fine with the Tapo app and does not require a hub. Basic method: 1) create a shortcut “Disarm Alarms” that puts the cameras in privacy mode 2) create a shortcut “Arm Alarms” that disables privacy mode in your cameras. 3) Setup your camera detection events and notifications as you want. The camera is disabled when you click the shortcut “Disarm”. Camera notifications will be enabled when you click “Arm” because you have disabled privacy mode. 4) Now create a shortcut automation for each sensor. The TRIGGER will be the sensor open. The ACTION will be something like “Front Door Open”. Name each automation something like “Front Door Sensor” 5) Now go back and edit shortcut “Disarm Alarms”. Add an ACTION to DISABLE automation “Front Door Open”. Add similar actions for each sensor automation. Save your edits. 6) Now go back and edit shortcut “Arm Alarms”. Add an ACTION to ENABLE automation “Front Door Open”. Add similar actions for each sensor automation. Save your edits. 7) Now when you click the shortcut “Disable Alarms”, you will receive no notifications. Everything is disabled. When you click shortcut “Arm Alarms”, you will receive notifications whenever a camera detects an event or a sensor opens 8) This works fine as long as all sensors were closed when you armed the alarm. But if the door was already open, you will not trigger a door alarm because the door is already open. However, it will work once the door is closed. Of course you can create a separate set of automations that will send a message warning you that the door is open at the time you click “Arm Alarms” to solve this problem.

    r/Tapo · Tapo C200 or C210?

Yes. If you are not picky about the red light and turn off motion detection, it should be fine as long as you are not trying to use it to cover a very large room. I have not had wifi issues with it.

    r/Tapo · Tapo C200 or C210?

I am not using it now. I am using c120’s inside. I do not need the pan-scan as the c120 has a pretty wide field of view. The c210 has a visible “red eye” infrared light for night vision. The c120 infrared light is not in the visible spectrum, so it’s infrared light is not visible like the c210. I prefer not to have the “red eye” light from the c210. However, the c210 has a weird background crackling sound in the audio. I have four c120’s and they all have this problem. Some others on reddit have also complained of this problem. I have two of my c120’s stuck directly to a window pane. They work great for that. And i have enough yard light at night that I get color video with the infra red disabled. I could not do that with a c210. I disable “motion detection” on all my Tap cameras. I find too many false events due to lighting changes, frame changes etc. Person detection works good inside. I do not have pets so can not really comment on that except that neither camera would reliably detect my robot vacuum moving around. So for my situation, I prefer the c120.

r/Tapo · simplest way to switch from home/away mode?

The built in Tapo “Home” and “Away” modes are inaccessible. So I build my own by creating the automation “Home” as suggested. You need to forget about the built in home automation. To clarify better change the name of the “Home” automation I created to “I am home” Now create your camera automation: Trigger … person detected Add condition … AUTOMATION STATUS “I am home” is DISABLED ACTION … Send notification message As you can see, the camera notification gets sent only if the automation “I am home” is disabled. To repeat: “I am home” gets enabled by a geo fencing automation upon arriving home “I am home” gets disabled by a geo fencing automation upon leaving home This works very well

r/Tapo · simplest way to switch from home/away mode?

You need to create the “home” and “away” automation. It is as simple as creating any simple automation and calling it “Home”. When you arrive home you enable this automation. When you leave home, you disable this automation. Now all you need to do is test if the automation called “Home” is enabled or disabled. If it is enabled, you are home. If not, you are away. Automation “Home” example: Trigger when time of day 8:00 am If condition Plug #1 Device ON AND If condition Plug #1 DEVICE OFF THEN ACTION send message “This message will never be sent because Plug #1 can not be ON and OFF at the same time” Now you can use this automation to provide your “Home” status. Create one automation that enables “Home” when you arrive home. Create a second automation that disables “Home” when you leave home.

r/Tapo · simplest way to switch from home/away mode?

You do not have to turn the camera off. I just gave you one option. You can easily keep the camera running/recording and stop messages when you are home. It is 5 minutes in automation creation. You can easily implement the solution with either a pushbutton, a shortcut, or geofencing.

r/Tapo · simplest way to switch from home/away mode?

Well it only takes a few minutes to create the automations once you are familiar with automations. But I understand that creating your first automations can seem somewhat daunting, so i agree Tapo could make it more user friendly. But on the flipside, much more flexibility is gained by being able to create your own customized experience. As I understand your post, you want to receive notifications from your c210 only when you are away from home. The easiest way to do this is to create two automations. 1) The first automation “Home” would be triggered by geofencing when you arrive home. This automation would then have an “ACTION” that would ENABLE your c210’s privacy mode. When in privacy mode, your camera is not recording or sending notifications. 2) The second automation “Away” would be triggered by geofencing when you leave home. This automation would then have an “ACTION” that would DISABLE your c210’s privacy mode. Now your camera is recording again and sending notifications. That’s it. Now your cameras will only send notifications when you are away. This is just one solution of many depending upon your specific wants. For example, if you are trying to do this with two different people (and two phones), it is a little more complicated. but still only requires a few automations

r/Tapo · simplest way to switch from home/away mode?

You can easily create your own home/away modes using automations in the Tapo app. Basically, you create an automation and then enable the automation when you leave home and disable the automation when you return home (using geofencing). Then you test the status of that automation (either enabled or disabled) to run whatever you want while home or away

    r/Tapo · Tapo C200 or C210?

Tried all the settings multiple times. I have an irobot roomba. Black color on offwhite floor. About 12 inches in diameter. It gets detected as a person if detected, but most of the time is not detective. Changes in lighting (turn on/off a light) is detected as a person. Unblocking privacy mode automatically creates a person detection. ….

r/Tapo · Using multiple tp link software on cameras

You should have two different accounts and set them on one phone then share them with the other account on the second phone. Above is the correct way to do it but you could try setting everything on phone one and then adding the same account email and password to the second phone, I don’t know if this will work but if it will you’ll be logged on and the app won’t know what’s what to differentiate ( if this second option does work it would be good to know )

r/Tapo · New Tapo Hybrid cams? What's the difference between them and their other cams? Why are they called Hybrid?

I bought two of the center ones you linked (C246D) to replace my C520WS. The quick rundown is: * Much better quality picture * Much wider FOV on the fixed camera portion * Much faster tracking * Unique features like tapping and holding somewhere on the fixed camera stream and the telephoto moving to that location as well as dual tracking which will move the pan to an event triggered on the fixed camera view * USB C power The only major downside for me is you cannot change the FPS at all. And it's locked at something lower than I'm used to. It feels like 20-24 fps which is a noticeable jump when all my other Tapo cams (C110, C210, Ct20ws) have 30fps. The fixed portion can tilt a small amount (manually) but it's not enough. They should have included and angled spacer of some kind as most people feel it's aimed too far upward. Hope that helps.

r/Tapo · C120 and C210 cameras motion detection has become unreliable

The subscription mainly adds Rich Notifications and Cloud Storage, along with a few other minor app features. The typical function of the camera will be unaffected by whether or not you have a Tapo Care subscription. I would double-check your detection sensitivities in case they were changed accidentally. I would also recommend making sure that the camera and surrounding sensors are clear of any dust that could affect the sensor. Is the app still making the recordings on time and it is just the notifications that are delayed? If so, consider reinstalling the Tapo App to clear any settings that could be affecting the delivery. I would also check the permissions granted to the app, as settings related to low-power or priority notifications can result in delayed notifications.

r/Tapo · Cant find recordings on SD card, instead a bunch of 256meg mp4 files with blank black videos.

This is the expected function of the SD card when looking at it directly. The files leading with xxxxx are placeholders for future recordings and do not have any recordings. There should be some files that have replaced this file name with a date and should contain your recordings though. https://preview.redd.it/65xpzmca5ysf1.png?width=662&format=png&auto=webp&s=1ff7128dbe13ac2a41410cbe27084da8a002c4ee [How can I view the video recordings of camera from the SD card on a computer? | Tapo](https://www.tapo.com/us/faq/94/)

r/Tapo · Where are my Tapo C210 recordings / pictures being stored? I don't have SD card installed nor do I subscribe to Tapo Care.

I think that these are being stored within the app's cache for the time being, with the videos and images not moving into your camera roll automatically and instead staying inside of a system folder. I believe that these will expire after a short period and should not be relied on. I think that you can force remove them by either clearing your app cache in your phone settings, reinstalling the Tapo app, or you may try simply just relogging into the app.

r/Tapo · How to connect to the PC?

The internet portion is only technically needed for setup and periodic connections. A *network* is needed to see the camera on your PC or locally via the app. Without a network, there is no official way of maintaining a video stream. The only possibility I could even think of is whether a hub could connect to the uni wifi and the camera to that - but it would be easier to just use a cheap travel router at that point. Honestly, in the long term, I would recommend trying to build out your own little network under the Uni wifi. Even if you cannot avoid double NAT, you may have a better experience with your devices - and will be somewhat more secure. I was able to get my start with my smart home under a dual-nat university wifi in my dorm XD

r/Tapo · How to connect to the PC?

The cameras are going to only be accessible through the app in this case - unless you just set the camera to record, hope for the best, and pull the SD card later. Essentially, you have to treat the camera like an IP camera - which is required to be connected to a network to interact with and view the live stream of the camera. The best option is to likely use a travel router or some other type of network extender to connect to the camera. The travel router would essentially just take in your uni's wifi network and rebroadcast it for your own use.

    r/Tapo · Mass Downloading

So sorry to hear. Unfortunately, there really is no option in this case. It would have been possible to remove the camera's SD card and save the video files that way, but with only cloud storage being used, the only method is to go through them individually.

    r/Tapo · Can I mount tapo c210

I feel like it may be something that you would want to keep outside of the enclosure if possible. No matter what, it is still an environment that could take an eventual toll on the device. \- It is not an outdoor camera, so it does not have any Dust/Water protection. If the enclosure is dusty, this may take a toll on the camera - especially since it will have moving parts. It could also just dirty the lens and require cleaning. If you have a heating source, you would also want to ensure that it will be safely distanced from it. \- The IR lights will also reflect off of glass, so it may be difficult to get a good night-vision view of the room if the camera is surrounded with glass and the lights are reflecting directly back at it or bouncing around within the enclosure. For your enclosure, if a camera was going inside - I would ideally recommend a C120. Its pretty small, magnetic, an outdoor/indoor camera, and has color night vision beyond IR. Unfortunately it is not a Pan/Tilt Camera so you would lose the view of your room, but as an enclosure camera I think it would be the ideal option. Also, Keep in mind that we only officially support mounting the device to a wall or ceiling with the included mount. If the device breaks from another mounting method, it would fall outside of our warranty policy.

Actually i had the same formatting error with one of my sandisk cards. It was the same as all the others i installed when i started this. If you didn't mention that i wouldn't remember it. It might be because i used it before... I don't really know why but i could format it and test it on a pc but the camera couldn't format it. I installed another one fresh from the box and it performed great. This cameras seem to be peaky when it comes to micro sd cards...

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

If i understood correctly, both cameras have the latest update but one of them is exhibiting this behaviour. You, logically, swapped cards to check if it was the card's fault or the camera reading it. I would recommend that you check those cards on a computer to see how much of its memory is corrupted and then fill them with any sort of files until they are full. See how much real memory they have. You can also check the write and reading speeds just to be sure that they perform well. If they're both on par, then it's really a camera issue. I simply moved away from micro sd cards to the h500. Not that i had any issues with those cards but for the simple fact that they have an "expiration date" and the smaller the card or the bigger the camera's resolution, the faster it will start to give us problems.

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

I don't disagree with your appraisal but I'm talking about a *brand new card* of the exact same model and spec as the one that failed. So, did my *brand new card* wear out in 15 seconds?

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

Cool. Thanks for the hate. It's okay that you've simplified in your head what I was trying to explain. I'm not moving the goal posts, I have to explain further details for those that want to point right to the cards. I get it. The cheap cards suck. The fact that I took a card that went bad and tried it in a camera with a known good card and the card still didn't work, replaced the known bad card with the exact same brand new card and got the same results as the bad card should clearly illustrate the story if you were paying attention. You're excused.

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

Thanks and yes, I did swap, then pull and test. The card that failed is truly bad but the replacement card (again, brand new, same mfr, size, brand) will not format without error in the camera but will format in my PC. I hate to sound paranoid but I've been through other "features" (bugs) that TP-Link refused to admit but then after a miracle, a.k.a. the firmware update, solved the issue the previous update caused. I have some new Samsung cards on the way for further testing.

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

I appreciate the info and the advice however, my cams are not 24/7 recorders and are motion/human activated so maybe 12 to 20 minutes of video per day if that. For other locations on the property I use Wyze cams that record 12-second clips to the cloud. If I needed that kind of surveillance I would install the Reolink I've had in the box for 4 years.

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

These cams only record when there is activity so maybe 4 to 5 times a day. This is not an endurance issue; it is a firmware issue. Everyone wants to blame the cards and I get it. They are usually to blame. I cannot accept that after offline formatting and stress testing the cards that they will not work in these $35 cameras.

    r/Tapo · TP-Link broke the SD cards

I do know that and it still doesn't explain why the same size card from the same vendor, purchased at the same time wouldn't work the same way as the original did for years. I can appreciate you have some knowledge about SD cards and when it really counts, I use top-rated and tested cards. But this is a camera that does light duty watching for ignorant delivery drivers and snooping neighbors. I digress. The point is that the same cards used to work and now they don't. This is the same model/brand of card that is still working in the C210 that came out of the other C210. Cheap, low end cards can and should still work unless someone actually changes something external to the previous operation of the device. I have a SanDisk and a Kingston card that I can try but I shouldn't have to.

r/TpLink · Over The Last 6-12wks, I've Purchased 5 Tapo Indoor Cameras Of Three Generations. Here Are My Thoughts.

There are some minor hardware differences like a different sensor, a slightly louder siren, and minor differences in the pan/tilt function. the main difference appears to be in the types of events that can be detected. This conversation has actually helped though as when looking at the differences between the C210 and C220 I found issues on the Specifications page. So I am having those reviewed and corrected. Once they are properly displayed I can share with you what the key differences really are and then discuss further how we might improve the camera in future versions.

    r/Tapo · Is a used Tapo C210 worth it, or should I just buy a new C200?

The C200 is a 1080P camera, whereas the C210 is the 2K version. Buying a used product also comes with a risk. It's not covered by the product's limited warranty. The good news is that a C210, at least here in the US, is on sale and currently is only $21.99 on Amazon. I would recommend the C210 but going with a new one.

    r/Tapo · Delay in recording trigger C425

I have a pretty big mixbag of tapos (I've got rid of all but one Eufy, because tapo don't make a 4g camera, and I can't throw wifi to the end of my drive which is 1.5km from my house) I'm on 26 acres with a small lodge (8 buildings) so I have a lot of ground to cover. Weirdly I'm most impressed with the C120 it's a wired indoor/outdoor USB-c cam. Next fav is the C310 outdoor barrel 12v it's actually a little toooo sensitive, and rain and wind in the trees will set it off. I like the C210 indoor pan and tilt barrel 12v but I've had them go offline more than I'd like... I admit that might me a me problem as they are all situated on the edge of my 2.4gz wifi coverage. The ones I don't love are the C410 and the C425 that I have in places I haven't run 12v/USB to... Even on solar panels, set to max sensitivity they are too conservative and don't catch as much as I'd like and at the same time send too much erroneous notifications 🙄 So I'm working out which of those to upgrade in time. Hope that helps

Update, the C220 sucks still. Dog barking, I get no notification, but person detected I'm forced to get two notifications. One from motion & one from person. It's really just rubbish in comparison to the C210s & the TC70 I have. They all work as they should. I'd love to be able to leave person detection on, but motion detection off as well. I try not to look at my phone for nothing, so the second notification is simply annoying.

r/TpLink · Over The Last 6-12wks, I've Purchased 5 Tapo Indoor Cameras Of Three Generations. Here Are My Thoughts.

I've just posted this in the subreddit you linked. In regards to how I'd improve the C220, it's hard to say exactly because I don't know what's changed on the inside exactly. All I know is that side by side, no one with eyes would choose the C220 over the C210, & most likely the TC70 as well, even though it's 1080p vs 2kUHD. The only way I can think that happens, is they are going with cheaper components or something along those lines. It doesn't make sense honestly. I literally paid less for the ones that are better. Which is not how things are supposed to work. This is probably why I made this post. Confusion.

r/Tapo · C120 and C210 cameras motion detection has become unreliable

Hi. So both cameras are set to record motion events to sd card (no continuous recording). There should have been some motion events this morning when I opened those windows and turned on a fan. In my experience, after registering a motion event, there seems to be a "dead-time" of about 60s where it won't register another one. Based on this, my presence should have triggered 2-3 events per camera. Instead, the C210 registered a single event. There was no phone notification but it does show up in the app under the alarm bell icon and I confirmed that the corresponding video clip did get saved to the sd card. The C120 didn't register any events today until this evening when a car headlight aimed at the window triggered an event. It's all very odd. Since both cameras are behaving weirdly and since they're different models, it suggests that maybe something has become misconfigured. Maybe I'll delete the cache then uninstall and reinstall the app.

r/Tapo · Are there any Tapos out there that actually have high bitrate?

I have three c210 and have them on 2k resolution and they are very good during daytime, I even used them for a while for a vehicle and license plate detection system and they were great. But on low light they are not that good, any object on the screen that isn't lit up becomes a pixelated mess, panning or tilting the camera causes motion artifacts and even objects that are slightly fast have ghosting issues, changing from 15 to 30 fps doesn't help much but forcing these cameras to night mode alleviates these problems quite a bit. Check out ODM to figure out your bitrate I found out mine are capped at 1382 Kbps don't know if that's good or bad but basing on what I've read on the internet I assumed it's not good.

    r/frigate_nvr · Tapo Cameras - Frigate & Tapo App

I used to have this issue, but an update to their app and cameras around the beginning of the year fixed that. I've had no issues using a few Tapo c210 and c310 cameras with frigate and their app simultaneously (only have the app as a backup). They work perfect through frigate 15.x. I've been using 16beta2 and 3 and have some issues with the c210 that I haven't figure doubt how to resolve (drop frames, messes with ffmpeg, weird driver vaapi and h264 driver warnings). No issues on 15 though and the c310 still work perfectly fine. Loving the new features in 16, especially canera disable without restart. For what it's worth, unfairly sure the issues I'm having with 16beta is my issue not having trivets or similar setup right (though they worker perfectly in 15), and of course it's a beta release.

r/TpLink · Tapo C210 micro sd card issues

I’ve been having this issue for months. I bought the Tapo C210 and everything was great for the past couple of months and suddenly when I tried to watch the previous videos in the SD Card, it says “No MicroSD Card.” The sd card I have is the bundle where there’s an sd card. I tried formatting, it will work for a day or two and then when I need to watch something important, no sd card again. I already formatted, rebooted, unplugged, updated, removed the sd card, brushed it, but no use. It’s still happening. Is it because of the Sd card? If it is then are they requiring us to pay the monthly storage subscription? I’m planning to buy another one but if this will happen again I might consider using a different sd card or a different brand of cctv.

    r/Tapo · Tapo C210 cannot record/format Memory card

Hi! I’m facing the exact same issue, verbatim. I just moved into a new 3-story house and bought a setup of 5 Tapo cameras (4x C200 and 1x C210) to monitor my daughter with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). I also bought 5 MicroSD cards, same model as yours, same size and I now strongly suspect are fake. I spent over $200 USD (around R$ 1,000 in Brazil) on these cards, and the cameras either won't format them or show that same "expanded capacity" error you’re seeing. Because of this, I’m now torn between three paths: 1.Buying High-Endurance Cards: Trying again with verified SanDisk High Endurance cards, but I’m honestly traumatized by the fakes in my local market and the high cost in Brazil. 2.Tapo H500 HomeBase: I’m considering centralizing everything with the H500 and a 1TB SSD. However, here in Brazil, the H500 is extremely overpriced, costing about $360 USD with import taxes (R$ 1,800). It’s a massive investment. 3.Tapo Care: Just giving up on local storage and paying for the cloud subscription to avoid the hardware headache. Are you leaning towards any specific solution? I’m really leaning towards the H500 just to be done with SD cards forever, even if it hurts my wallet right now.

r/TpLink · advice on camera choice

C210 is best for all round, with pan tilt, 2k, and dome shape. You said you like C100 or C110's size. If you need pan tilt which you don't C210, if you don't, C110. C110 and C100 are the same, but C110 has 2K 2000 pixel quality C100 has 1080p 1080 pixels. And 3MP May I ask what this camera is catching? If you're concerned a random person might come through, you want C110 for 2k, it'll be substantially better visuals. I'd it's just general go see who's going up and down, then go C100, though if you need to see if someone dropped something small like keys, C110 will be able to see them better. TL;DR: C210 for pan tilt and 2k clarity, C110 for 2k clarity and seeing finer details better without pan tilt, C100 for general views but won't pick up finer details. My pick is C110, or C100 if you want to save money.

That’s a scam, the Sd card isn’t working because Tapo have a strict limit for Gb, but Mac’s just read the fake 128gb on a 2gb chip and take the lies. Here’s an overview from Ai for closer up details as I’m not good at explaining! Disclaimer: The text below is Ai Generated, therefore it may not be accurate or appropriate - if you do not like or condone the use of Ai, simply do NOT view the comment below! The proceeding comment/text is Ai generated. That exact error (**"unusually expanded capacity"**) means the micro SD cards are **counterfeit/fakes**, even if the shop looked legit. **The Scam:** Fake cards hack the firmware to show "128GB" on your Mac or phone, but they only have about 4GB–8GB of actual storage. **The Tapo Check:** The Tapo camera runs a real hardware write-test during formatting. It detects the fake size immediately, fails, and locks it at 0.00 GB to protect your data. **What to do:** 1 Run a free tool called **F3 (Fight Flash Fraud)** on your Mac to test the card's real size. Use the results to get a refund. 2 Buy a **SanDisk High Endurance** or **Samsung PRO Endurance** card, ensuring it's sold directly by the retailer and not a third-party marketplace seller.

I have some C100s and one C210. They all use the same Toshiba 32GB microSD cards, but the C210 constantly fails to detect the card. It was okay in the first month, and then it would keep failing after that. Firmware is up-to-date. Just posting here for reference.

Following this thread. This is my biggest deception so far with the setup.... The "Home" and "Away" switch can't be automated, I guess because the geofencing feature is still in beta, which would make sense, but AT LEAST make those available to be added as Widget in the meantime or something!

I've been using both C200 and C210 for several years, no problems. Just be aware that C200 firmware won't allow it to connect to the H500 hub. C210 is fine with updated firmware. Just bought a new higher resolution C230, it connects perfectly, but not checked quality etc yet, only had it a day.

Get the c113s. They have the best overall performance that's why I bought them initially due to various other little things similar to these complaints about the c210. My c-113s have functioned flawlessly. Motion detecting is a little haywire even with sensitivity down but, I usually keep motion detection off and people detection on. They are indoor outdoor and have the good infrared night vision and amazing video quality. They have a decently wide field of view.. besides I have bought four of them and I was considering the c210 for indoor cameras but, for the same price I can get a c113 so, it's The logical choice for indoor even

\> ACTION … Send notification message If you do that, you can only send a textual message, which is of course of little use. Knowing we're home or away was never the problem. The problem is to trigger the proper actions when we know we're home/away, ie adjust detection, alarm and notifications settings. Again, I can now see this is not possible.

Did you ever get an answer on this? I recently grabbed a couple Tapo C210's, and I set them up with internet access, then used parental controls to remove their access to the web but only allowed them on the local network. When I removed web access, they no longer connect to the app, but I can still use rtsp and onvif with them. Im just worried about in the future if they will be bricks if I need to update their configuration last what onvif can do, and tapo isnt maintaining their server anymore. I want to find a way to access their configuration locally.

Try turning UPnP off under Advanced Settings and when accessing cameras via app, wait for the app to properly load before going into the camera you want to view. I know, it sounds stupid but, I found the camera would go offline if I went into the camera too quickly - it's almost like the app retains something in the cache from the previous session and if you switch too quickly it reacts like your attempting multiple connections at the same time.

r/Tapo · Wi-Fi issue with both my Tapo cameras

I had the same issue, reached out to support and they came back with the following. Step 6 worked for me: 1. Make sure both the Tapo app and camera firmware are up-to-date. 2. Confirm your router has an active internet connection when the issue occurs. 3. Restart the Tapo app. Reboot your router and the affected devices. 4. Disable router settings like client isolation, firewall, and access control, as these can sometimes block devices from staying connected. 5. Move the camera and chime closer to the router to ensure they are receiving a good Wi-Fi signal. Reduce any obstructions or sources of interference, such as microwaves, Bluetooth devices, or USB 3.0 equipment. 6. Set your router’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to channel width 20 MHz and channel 11. 7. Disable Smart Connect, Wi-Fi Optimizing, or Channel Optimization features on the router, as these can sometimes cause devices to disconnect. 8. Try to connect the camera and chime to a different 2.4 GHz network or a mobile hotspot to see if the problem persists. 9. If the issue continues, consider resetting and reconfiguring the affected camera and chime.

    r/Tapo · C210 - where is "Digital Zoom" ?

So I've been in contact with Tapo support. They told me that the C211 and C210 have the same HW inside, just the color is different. The marketing information for the C211 is wrong - they both support Digital Zoom, but only through the "pinch" function of the app. So if you are using rtsp: like me, you are out of luck on any zoom settings within the camera - all zoom functions are in the Tapo app only.

    r/Tapo · C210 - where is "Digital Zoom" ?

I expected the digital zoom to be part of the camera, not the app, just like pan and tilt are. I want to monitor something relatively close-up, and want that zoom level to be retained in a "Viewpoint" (in the app it's basically a preset) so when I come back to the app and view the camera, the zoom is already there. I'm OK with losing some resolution (which is part of a digital zoom), but I want it to be in the camera, not the app.

    r/Tapo · C210 - where is "Digital Zoom" ?

Yup that's digital zoom. In theory cameras that list it *should* be clearer at the same zoom level than those that don't. With the 4k cameras there's AI zoom on the live view that is clearer still (but it is only visible on live view and cannot be adjusted in terms of zoom amount, just moved throughout the picture. Basically unless a camera has an optical zoom it's all done via software and is nowhere near as clear so is largely used for marketing purposes.

r/Tapo · Tapo Camera Geofencing / recommended settings

I was using IFTTT on my previous device and the settings were affecting the battery life. Now I have a Galaxy A55 and when I tried to enable those two IFTTT applets, they didn't even work (for some reason I could not figure out) so I have abandoned this altogether. I'm just using some Tapo routines that are triggered by one of my Tapo smart plugs and some time schedule I have set up. So e.g. I have a light on my living room that is being turned off every night at 02.00 (via the Tapo smart plug). Or earlier if I say "Hey google turn the xxx light off". That's when I go to sleep. I have a Tapo routine that turns the camera on (privacy mode OFF) when that light is turned off, etc. These routines do not cover more than a 50% of I'd like to to do, but I guess I got tired of trying to find a viable solution and I stopped caring that much.

r/Tapo · Tapo Camera Geofencing / recommended settings

I'm on Android. I got it working with the above settings. Enhanced Location enabled, Accuracy set to Balanced and Frequency 30s. Sometimes it does need its time to understand that I have arrived or left the set radius to work though. Another issue here is that Tapo's Geofence by itself only offers "when I leave home / when I arrive home" automations. I wanted to cover cases where for example I'm at home sleeping and would like to the camera to be ON. So I ended up using IFTTT's two free applets. My Tapo camera turns OFF when my mobile phone connects to my home's wi-fi and turns ON when my phone disconnects. r/TpLink · Tapo C210 - No sound detection?

I currently have Tapo 210 it was one of the only cams with 114 vertical pan. Would love even more than that, but this is the most that I can find (Nest aside older version discontinued) and why I had to get a different one. I don’t love that it doesn’t auto record when there’s sound or movement detected like D-Link does. It only does a still photo capture but it’s a bit late, it’ll say person/ movement detected, but nothing’s there so it’s almost like it misses the capture moment. Picture quality is outstanding however. As well as pan capabilities. With Tapo I have to turn the human detection feature off otherwise it goes off every five seconds. Which means that I can’t detect if a dog is moving around. And because it doesn’t pick up Barking notification it’s kind of useless other than viewing in the moment. Does anyone have any comparisons to the newer D-Link models? Or will I have a better experience with TAPO C225 model - for what I’m needing. Thank you :)

r/TpLink · Questions before buying Tapo Cameras

We use a different non-wifi monitor that you can just plug in and watch on the screen it comes with (no phone required). Smart baby brand I believe. We also have a second camera set up, and that is the Tapo c210. Since it was so cheap, and we wanted a way to record video. So it's a good add on to an existing non-wifi baby monitor, IMO. But I don't like it as a standalone one because you can't use your phone at the same time. However, if you have an extra tablet you don't use much, I could see using the c210 as a full time monitor. The major downside is, when you travel. You need to use a wifi or wired LAN connection. Not sure you could get it to work easily at a hotel, Air BnB, etc. would even be a hassle to reset it and set it up at a family member's home. But doable, if you know their WiFi password and everything . Would probably only take like 10 mins to reset it and and set it up for a different home.  Just not plug in and go, like the good old days. 😂

r/Tapo · So I am soon going to be part of Tapo Family ,needed some advice !

Oh, what kind of data does the QUBO plug offer? I'm looking for power usage (above or below a threshold) as a trigger? Person detection is pretty good on the cameras, although I only use my C210 as a nanny cam - I find the higher grade models perform better (C225 > C120 in terms of night person detection) in my limited anecdotal experience. Download of clips only seems to work while on the same network, so no remote/isolated VLAN. So I guess you could screen record while playing back a video as a hacky work around in a pinch. I haven't used the paid cloud option, so that could work for you if you are not onsite and willing to pay  I haven't tried blue iris with Tapo gear, but I presume it would work as they are usually compatible with RSTP but you'd probably loose onboard AI.

    r/Tapo · Tapo c210 wifi won't connect

Adding a bit to OK-T below - many of the new routers use an option called Smart Connect. This allows the router to share the same SSID on the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. This allows a device the option to choose which band to connect with. Unfortunately, there are a lot of devices out there that do not like this option. In order to address this issue, the other option is to configure the router with an SSID for the 2.4 band, and a different SSID for the 5 band. Another possible problem people have been dealing with is the routers' ability to AUTO select the actual channel(s). Most new routers do this by default, but this has also caused issues on a variety of devices. Look up Smart Connect or Auto channel, and you will see/read lots of discussions on this topic. Should you open a support ticket, no matter what, one of the first things they will tell you is to ensure your camera and App device (phone) are using the same SSID. The only way to do this is to have separate SSIDs. Take your phone for example. It will evaluate the signal strength of available networks on both bands, typically prioritizing the band with the strongest signal, and a few other settings. If a router broadcasts separate SSIDs, the phone will choose accordingly. The camera will only connect to the 2.4band no matter what. And what happens if the 2.4 band on the router is too busy -  slow speeds, connection drops, lagging, and poor performance.

The C210 mount would work for most uses. But it still allows anyone to twist the camera off the mount and walk away with it. Although if it comes down to that, the camera itself can be twisted off the support arm easily, so I suppose it's a moot point. Don't get me wrong, I like the C120. I have 3 in use now. And I understand that for $25, you're not going to get a robust camera housing and mount.

It detects motion but the brain dead Tapo app programmers seem to think nothing else triggers the camera, OR that their customers actually never use other apps that notify. It's the dumbing down of education by the global elites.

    r/Tapo · Tapo C200 or C210?

Don't buy purely on the resolution difference; in the tests I've done with the TC70 **1080p** and C220 **2K** cameras there's negligible difference in the detail that gets recorded. It seems to be due to the low bitrate of the H264 stream; there's a video about it here; [https://youtu.be/3Vx7y3aA6uE](https://youtu.be/3Vx7y3aA6uE) I presume it'll be a similar situation with the C200 and C210. There's a discussion about it here on the Tapo forums re. the C100 and C110; [https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/701490](https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/701490)

    r/Tapo · Tapo C125 or Tapo C200/210?

When I compared the resolution between the 1080p TC70, and the C210 I found the difference in the recording to be minimal. Admittedly this isn't comparing the C200 to C210, but it looks to me that the bitrate has a big effect on the resolution and 2K doesn't end up being a big plus. I compared the two in this video; [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vx7y3aA6uE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vx7y3aA6uE)

r/TpLink · Setting Up TP Link C210 Through the Tapo app

I assume they're functionally similar to my C120 so: You need to pair them first to your account and use internet to do it, BUT afterwards you can view them without internet access IF you use their RTSP mode. Once you setup their RTSP mode, they can be viewed by any local RTSP viewer on the same network. Doesn't matter if the network has internet access or not. But that said, without internet access you can't watch these cameras when you're away from your local network. If that's fine with you then it works out. My setup though has the router connected to internet. My cameras are online but run RTSP mode also. I don't port forward my RTSP ports so that you can't remotely view them through RTSP (for security reasons). When I'm away, I view them using the Tapo app. Locally, I view them through RTSP viewers.

r/TpLink · Seeking a indoor camera with ONVIF and RTSP

I update the thread. I’ve bought the camera and I’ve archived to configure ports in my router in order to allow the connection from rtsp and onvif. However, I can’t accomplish to disable all the cloud features of tapo. Maybe the only way to do it is configuring the firewall of my router to allow connections only to the specific ports that aim to the camera that I had opened formerly?

    r/TpLink · Tapo app shortcuts

I wanted to activate a shortcut via API/Google Home/Alexa but it's not possible. Really annoyed since I can't control my cameras as currently the pytapo python library is not able to connect due to the changes they implemented.

r/Tapo · simplest way to switch from home/away mode?

Cuesta mucho entender lo que quisiste poner, pero después de un año de esperar a que la app ponga esa opción mucho más simplificada, (algo tan sencillo como darte la opción de activar "fuera de casa" como un atajo), pude hacerlo como lo explicaste

r/TpLink · Tapo C210 camera can't be accessed through VPN
