  Water temp is going to be the biggest difference. The Aromaboy doesn't heat the water hot enough for full extraction. That said, the Moccamaster isn't magic. It only provides the correct brew temp at the correct flow rate. If you want an excellent cup of coffee you will also need quality fresh roasted beans and a grinder that grinds evenly which is expensive unless you get a manual grinder. Or a local roaster that grinds the coffee for you. Any SCA or ECB certified coffee maker will give the same extraction quality. The Moccamaster has the added benefit that it will last for decades with daily use. They're super reliable. Only you can decide if it's worth it. There are millions of people in the States that happily drink Folgers from a Mr. Coffee. (I'm kind of envious of them because I'm no longer able to be happy with that now that I know what good coffee tastes like.)

  I bought the Melitta Aroma Signature Deluxe and a hue smart plug. It doesn't seem to work - you have to push the button once the machine has power. What a pity. Anyone knows a workaround?

  I know it’s an old post but mine did the same. I called Melitta service and they told me they’ve never heard of it bending like that. I found it hard to believe. Anyway, the shower/ arm was very annoying and I had the stir the coffee a little bit, but the machine made a nice coffee in general. Had it for three years until so switched for something else and it worked perfectly fine and still looked like new.

  Ja, nichts ist meditativer als ein rauschender Wasserkocher ;-) Handfilter hab ich natürlich schon, aber mehr als eine Tasse ist das immer umständlich einen ausgewogenen Kaffee für alle zu machen, außer man gießt alles in eine Thermoskanne.

  Ja macht es. Temperatur wird über den ganzen Brühvorgang exakt gehalten, was extrem wichtig beim Kaffeebrühen ist. Wasser wird besser verteilt (aber das gibt es heute auch schon noch besser), und vor allem gibt es jahrzehntelange Ersatzteilversorgung, Reparaturanleitungen, Service etc. Günstige Alternative ist der Melitta Aromaboy, der auch sehr tollen Kaffee macht, für viel weniger Geld.   On nice! Yeah I was hoping it would be pretty straightforward for any coffee novice to put the brew basket directly under the grinder and dose the coffee without much hassle. I think I might go for both.. Fingers crossed the coffee machine holds up a bit better than the Wilfa!

  Great to hear. They seem to still make it and it's available at a great price in a few places. My plan is to use it with the grinder by Melitta that has the integrated scales. Hopefully to streamline the coffee making process. We had a Wilfa Classic + which brewed good coffee but too many things broke.. It's also quite intimidating for people that don't understand coffee.. This thing seems like the best option that brews up to temp at about a third of the price of a Moccamaster! Cup one looks great..! I'm pretty low key for my own home setup and use a Clever Dripper (also excellent)

  Yeah it’s still fine. Not seen much use as I’ve got a cup one from moccamaster (also highly recommend) as I’m mostly making coffee for just me since Covid and working from home. We got the same melitta machine at the office which was making 2-3 batches a day pre covid (less often since then of course) and that has held up well too Do they still make this model then?

  Quick update on the Melitta Aroma Signature Deluxe: On first use, I noticed straight away that the spout/arm which the water runs through and drips onto the coffee BENDS when in use. Because it's made of plastic (which apparantly cannot handle the water temperatures) it pulls upwards into a sort of U shape, which then means the water primarily drips out of the first few holes. For smaller brews this means a chance not all the grounds will get wet and generally the water is dripping into one side of the basket. That aside, it seems to make good coffee so maybe I am being picky? This design flaw does knock my confidence in the unit though - if the designers and quality control thought this oversight was OK (and I spoke to Melitta head office and they confirmed their own unit in the office does the same thing, but they hadn't noticed until I called them!) I wonder what else they skipped on as being "good enough". Sure it was £80 which compared to some machines is not "high end" expensive but it's still more expensive than your basic coffee machine so I guess I had higher expectations than this.

  I've gone with the Melitta Aroma Signature Deluxe, I preferred the more basic styling compared to the Elegance and it was a bit cheaper. I wasn't bothered about the thermal carafe otherwise I would have gone for the Elegance. For the UK, we don't have as many options as the US in terms of approved by SCA/ECBC. It was basically these, Moccamaster for £180, or the Breville/Sage Precision which is £250. So £80 seems like a good deal!
