This. Hamilton Beach, Proctor-Silex, Krups, KitchenAid, Bella, Black and Decker(!) - any basic drip machine will do the trick. $20-50. Filters are cheap, cleaning/descaling is easy, They will last 5-10 years before you need to buy a replacement. Feature wise, you need to decide if you want auto-shutoff, or you want a "dumb" machine that just has an on/off switch, so it can keep warm for more than two hours, as long you're not forgetful.

You can’t complain that a whole generation doesn’t know how to use something but refuse to leave instructions because most people know how to use something. Just leave instructions for things like coffee makers, tvs, etc. people only know the set ups they know.

Thank you for this. I like the look and features. The only thing I don't like about it is the glass pitcher. Ours has a stainless steel carafe, which I like for a few reasons: \- It has no heating element on the bottom \- Guests (and us) don't have to worry about the coffee maker being left on \- I never have to deal with a discolored/burnt glass carafe.

    >And in the year of our lord 2026 I, as an old, do fully expect a reusable filter to be in a drip coffee pot and haven’t purchased a filter in at least 20 years. Right - we use paper filters in the drip machine so people will throw them away - instead of getting guests that clean a stainless steel filter by dumping grinds down the sink.

Yeah... that's a better solution than an instruction card. I *think* I've had one other guest "make coffee" but didn't know to use a filter. But that was an easier clean up.

r/airbnb_hosts · Gen Z and Coffee Makers (sigh)

Felt that a little bit - and did look up the price of an exact replacement, but it was a little high to purchase. Plus, - for self preservation - I didn't want to message them, ask for a clean/replacement fee and risk the possibility of getting some "we didn't touch it" BS, which would've annoyed me more than just spending the time to clean it. It's OK though... been hosting long enough that what use to perturb now just surprises. 👀

    >but if a guest has never used whatever coffee machine you have, then they’re gonna have to guess. Guessing isn't the only option. Anyway, I know it's *my preference,* and I will suffer the consequences from time-to-time, but I am not going to leave notes and directions everywhere on standard items. I've stayed at AirBnBs that do that and it's like, "Give me a break already". Plus, some people have posted a variety of other good ideas. A K-Cup is a coffee pod designed for Keurig brewing systems. It you're familiar with Nespresso, it's similar.

r/airbnb_hosts · Gen Z and Coffee Makers (sigh)

I accept that it is less likely for people to put paper waste down a sink. Plus - you're not needing to rinse a paper filter - you just dump it (with the grinds) into the trash.

I know how to make coffee but I do think an instruction card is better than a water only label. If they don't know how to use the machine and won't take the time to google it, they're just going to find another way to eff it up. I would put both, but I would for sure include instructions!

Check out Project Farm YouTube channel. They just did a video on coffee makers. I went with the Black and Decker as it seemed the best bang for buck.

    r/JamesHoffmann · Coffee lovers, what's the best coffee maker/machine?

Just dropping my go-to under-$100 list that actually survives daily use (tested everything myself over the past couple years): Ninja 12-Cup Programmable – \~$90 (my current daily driver, perfect strong brew + timer) Mr. Coffee 12-Cup – \~$35 (ran mine for 4 years straight, unbeatable at the price) Keurig K-Classic – \~$79 (office lifesaver, zero cleanup) Black+Decker CM1160B – \~$40 (quiet, reliable, no plastic taste) Hamilton Beach 2-Way Brewer – \~$70 (single cup OR full pot, super handy) Hoffmann fans, any of these will get you way better coffee than a pod machine without breaking the bank. Changed my mornings for good.Just dropping my go-to under-$100 list that actually survives daily use (tested everything myself over the past couple years):

    r/BuyItForLife · What's the best no-frills coffee maker?

In this sub a Bonavita that is on a Black Friday sale. Just kidding. I would probably go with a Black and Decker. That was the last no frills coffee maker I had and it lasted a good 8 years with everyday use. It was probably still working when I got a Keurig. My parents also use Mr. Coffee coffee makers and have been happy with them. They brew perfectly fine.

r/BuyItForLife · Is a Moccamaster worth it if one isn't a huge detailed coffee person?

I can't speak to the longevity. But I did just buy a 40oz "10 cup" Moccamaster KBT for $205. The one with the thermal carafe, a few weeks ago. Previously, I had a $20 Black and Decker drip coffee maker that's still going strong after 10 years. It's a daily machine in the past 5 years. In between machines, I experimented with a Moka Pot clone, French Press, and pour over with Hario v60 gooseneck kettle. A pour over, when done right is really great. I like the French Press and Moka Pot too. Each have their pros and cons, especially in the clean-up phase. The Moccamaster is an automated pour over. For machines, the Moccamaster comes out hotter than the B&D. It's also one of the smoothest cups of coffee I've had. It's super easy to use, especially if you're coffee deprived in the morning. The more I use it, the more I like it. Did I ever think I'd spend 10x the amount I spent on the last coffee machine? No. However, it suits my needs of brewing straight into the carafe and cleanup is super easy.
