We just switched from a single cup to a drip. I chose this over the moccamaster because the stainless steel water heater; the pre-sprinkle to bloom the coffee; the programmable timer. This makes either 6 cups or 8 cups, nothing smaller. We have had this about a month and is just what we wanted. Behmor Brazen Plus 3.0 Customizable Coffee Brewer brazen ~$200 US.

I used to have a Bonavita (still have it actually) with a glass carafe and bought a Behmor Brazen Plus 2.0 about a year or so ago. The Bonavita is simple. Add water, hit the power button, and it starts. It uses cone filters, has no real settings, and doesn’t have auto on. The Behmor has a customizable altitude setting, pre infusion time, and brew temperature as well as auto on if you like to wake up to a pot of coffee. The only option is a thermal carafe and it’s a pretty good one. Coffee stays hot in it for a couple of hours. It uses a flat bottom basket which I think works better and more consistently for batch brew than a cone. The water reservoir is also stainless instead of plastic if that matters to you. I’ve been happy with the Behmor and would buy it again. Bonavita makes good stuff, but for the money I think Behmor is a better product with more features. I like having auto on for when I have company. I’d say the Behmor is slightly louder because it boils all of the water in the chamber first and then releases it. The Bonavita draws water from the chamber up the tube. But neither are what I’d consider loud. The Bonavita has more of a bubbling/gurgling sound and the Behmor has more of a rapid boiling/hissing sound. The Bonavita bubbles and gurgles the entire brew process whereas the Behmor silently releases the water after it comes to temperature. The Behmor takes slightly longer to make a pot (2-3 minutes longer). The Bonavita will function like the Technivorm Moccamaster and the Behmor will function like the Bunn Heat N Brew. Two different styles of water heating/delivery.

The Behmor Brazen Plus. Over your budget but much cheaper than a moccamaster. Solid machine that has lasted me 8 years and still going strong. Makes a great cup of coffee. Uses a thermal carafe which keeps the coffee hot for a long time. I can also schedule it to auto-brew in the morning when I know I’ll be in a rush

This is definitely the best bang for buck. The only if is how long they last, but I’ve had mine for a year without a single hiccup at this point.

mrockey19r/Coffee · [Gear] Technivorm Moccamaster, Wilfa Precision Coffee Maker, or Brew Express BEC-110BS? →2014-10-10T19:01:11
Not only does the Brazen do everything the Technivorm does, like pre-soak and have a large shower head for even brewing. It does more by allowing you to choose which temperature you'd like to brew at, choose how long you want to bloom, gold mesh filter, AND you can set it to brew at a specific time if you grind beans the night before. Plus its cheaper than the technivorm you listed. The Brazen is a Technivorm that allows you to control every aspect of the brewing. As a side question, what kind of grinder do you have?

I feel as if the Technivorm has no real advantage over the Brazen. The altitude correction like you cited seems to be an impressive feature. Right now I live at ~250 feet above sea level, but that could easily change in the coming years. Once you have the correct settings for the Brazen, it's just as easy to use as the technivorm. The roasting time may be slightly longer on the Brazen from my understanding, but excluding that small difference, it seems equal in every other aspect.

Construction seems pretty sturdy. Another plus is that there is no pump, as the water reservoir is above the grounds basket. One less thing that can go wrong or wear out. I did just see your want for a 15 cup brewer. Damn. The brazen only does 8 at a time. Never had a brew from a 15 cup. Says brew time is still around 6 mins. Thought you’d need to increase a little considering it’s almost double the volume.
