r/Home · Good coffee maker for better coffee at home?

If you want a drip machine,I highly suggest a bunn. They have a hot water reservoir. They make a pot of coffee in about three minutes and if you run vinegar through them on occasion,it will last for years. I average ten years on mine.

IMO nothing beats a restaurant Bunn or one of their clones. Water is always hot, brew as much or little as you want, if you replace the plastic basket with stainless you have zero plastic from the boiler to your pot. The only better coffee IMO is pourover, Bunns are like pourover for people who don't want to fuss over their pot.

r/Home · Good coffee maker for better coffee at home?

Yep, [Bunn](https://retail.bunn.com/coffee-makers). Even when using grocery store coffee, like Folgers or Maxwell House, the brewed coffee is much better with the Bunn than any other ordinary coffeemaker. It heats the water to the proper temperature and brews quickly and quietly.

Bunn is the best. You don't have to run vinegar though, as they don't scale like other drip makers. I've never descaled and mine last forever. Bunn is vastly superior to other coffee makers. You get a full 10 cup pot in about 3 minutes and the temperature is also ideal

r/smartbuysforlife · Is the Technivorm Moccamaster actually worth it?

Short answer:no. I have one and I like it but I got it for $200 on Black Friday and that is still overpriced. The boiler unit (the metal tower) itself is well made and reliable. The plastic ancillary parts are made of abysmally cheap flimsy plastic. If you are in Europe you can get replacement parts, but in the US the only parts you can get access to are the aforementioned plastic parts. They will not sell any of the internal parts. Instead, you can send it to them to fix for $100. That does not qualify for buy-it-for-life in my opinion. It does make good coffee but no better than any other less expensive SCA certified brewer. A Bunn HB makes coffee just as good for $139.

r/JamesHoffmann · Ratio 6 vs. Moccamaster vs. something else?

Oxo is a well made machine but I had the same problem as mastley3. Oxo was great and gave me a refund and even paid for return shipping. I agree it was the silicone gasket and silicone is non-leaching and non-shedding. Also, it was more smell than taste. I have a moccamaster. Its fine but highly over-rated and way over-priced. I think the Ratio 6 could be good but its kind of ugly and I haven’t tried one. The bigger Ratio is gorgeous. Another I will recommend is Bunn HB. Great coffee and great price.

r/ProductQuery · Finally tossing my ancient coffee maker... what's everyone buying these days that actually lasts?

I bought a Moccamaster. It’s expensive. Got it on sale on Amazon. I’d wait for a sale. It’s built to be repaired. There is science behind drip coffee. Most makers don’t get hot enough. I use half as much coffee as I used to. I can slow the speed at which the water passes through the grounds. Had a Bunn that keeps water hot. You make a pot by displacing the hot water with fresh water. It makes a pot very quickly. Parents also had one. They tend to eventually leak. Ideally, make an entire pot before taking any of it. The initial coffee will be stronger than the later coffee. I prefer cone filters. Had a Zojirushi that made hot coffee but the pump eventually failed. I’ve used an electric kettle to heat water and then poured over the grounds myself. The kettle had temperature settings. And I would pour the water through the grounds twice. The first time would be plain water. The second would be the brewed coffee. Knew a guy who would use 2 filters and would pour over the grounds twice. They make filter holders to put over a vessel to make drip coffee this way. If you like tea, hot chocolate, etc, this is very flexible. In case you want to venture into other coffee styles. You want a coarser grind for French Press. The grounds stay in contact with the water. Drip coffee just passes through the grinds. You don’t want to heat / cook brewed coffee. So, I would recommend against a percolator, which keeps circulating the brewed coffee through the heating element. They are great for large gatherings. Just put the coffee into a thermos. I also have an espresso maker and a grinder. Espresso uses high pressure to force hot water through a very fine (like flour) grind of coffee beans.

r/BuyItForLife · In need of coffee maker advice

I assume Moccamaster will probably be the best suggestion, but I’ve been using a regular Mr. Coffee 10 cup brewer for 6 years of daily use and not had any problems. It’s programmable and has an insulated carafe that keeps the coffee hot for quite awhile without heating it further or making it taste bad. I’ve used it with a Goldtone washable filter the entire time, and been happy with it. Mine was like $70 but they’re probably $100+ at this point. A Moccamaster is probably $300-400, so I guess it depends on your budget. Bunn and Ninja make similar ones to the Mr. Coffee I have for around the same price they are now, but I can’t speak to how long those will last.

r/BuyItForLife · UPDATE: 2 weeks ago I asked "What's the best no-frills coffee maker", and after 400+ recommendations, I bought my mom the Moccamaster

I’ve had issues with the check valves in a lot of traditional drip machines failing. My longest lasting counter top maker has been a Bunn that was purchased in 2018. Of course, the full size commercial Bunn machines are where it’s at and last for decades as well. I find makers that use gravity and dump their hopper contents into the basket (similar to pour over) such as the OG Mr. coffee, Bunn and others tend to last the longest.

    > It says it always keeps a stainless water tank hot. Does this mean it's always kicking on 24 hours a day to keep water hot? Yeah, the linked one is essentially the home version of the more blocky commercial ones you see in offices. My grandma had a bunn like this, as soon as you pour new water in, it pushes the existing hot water through to start the new pot, so the whole thing takes like 3 minutes. It's also a more consistent flow than a regular pot since it's not heating and spurting constantly. If you get the ones they make for offices, you can even store a done pot on the top or the side, so you always have one done pot being kept warm while another is in the brewing position.

Came here to see and what is said about the Bunn … I have the bunn and thank goodness I’ll stick with it, Amazon wall plug and actually I have the one that looks straight from the diner, and then we don’t use the hot plate but pretty sure we have had it 15 plus years now, been in this house 18 years and I know we quickly went thru a few coffee makers before settling on this.

    r/BuyItForLife · What's the best no-frills coffee maker?

I personally like Bunn coffee makers if it gets used regularly. It has two switches; one on the front for the hot plate and one on the back to turn the whole thing off if you're not using it for like a week or more. Pull the coffee basket, add a paper filter (reusable filters work well and are cheap too), and then add ground coffee. Add water to the top and close the lid. Coffee is done in ~3 minutes. A lot of people use the coffee carafe itself to fill the machine with water. However, I prefer to use a pitcher so that I'm not dumping anything but clean water into the machine itself. Just to note, the switch on the back is usually referred to as a vacation switch. The machine keeps a whole pots worth of water heated, so when you add in the next batch of water, it has very little effort to heat the existing water to temp and then it is replaced by the fresh water. And yes, you can do half pots of coffee. Just add half quantities of water and coffee and brew normally. They're not cheap, but they work well. [This one](https://retail.bunn.com/38300.0063) comes with a 3 year warranty, and the only thing that would fail (after a many, many years) is the high limit switches/fuses. Anyone who can handle a screwdriver, pliers, and basic directions can replace those for like $15. I've had that happen to two units after about a decade of constant service. If you ever come across a "broken" Bunn, it'd be worth it to check them, you might get a nice coffee pot for $15 and 15 minutes of your time.

    r/BuyItForLife · What's the best no-frills coffee maker?

We got our Bunn as a wedding present 12 years ago and I love it. We make 10 cups a day every day and sometimes more so I'm estimating it has made 2,000 gallons of coffee. It brews faster and quieter than regular coffee pots, and I feel like it tastes better because the water isn't quite as hot. It has two switches, which i rarely ever touch. One is to turn the tank heater off if you go on vacation, and one is the hot plate.

Obviously the win goes to Moccamaster. And while I’ve never measured one, they look too tall to make them practical. Not to mention expensive. We’ve used Bunn for at least 30 years (not the same unit), and feel very comfortable recommending them.

They’re really nice and will last a long time and they’re very fixable but honestly a bunn might be better I’m the same I also don’t really care. It’s a drink that I enjoy. I have a Keurig K duo 2 100$ because sometimes I want to do a big pot and sometimes I just want one cup I use it with the reusable plastic k cups with either Folgers or Don Francisco’s because I don’t care about those micro plastics or whatever if it breaks I’ll buy a bunn

In my 30 years of having my own stuff, I only recall a Bunn crapping out, and that was after 3 or 4 years. I think my current Mr Coffee is 10 years old. That said, I did go nuts and buy a Moccamaster during the prime sale.. but I am dabbling in the good coffee experience, but only on the weekends. My weekday go juice comes out of the Mr Coffee because we don’t have time to weigh beans and the hand grinder.
