r/BuyItForLife · Is a Moccamaster worth it if one isn't a huge detailed coffee person? I had a Bonavita, traded up to a Moccamaster, and a few months later, went back to the Bonavita. Don't believe the hype.
r/BuyItForLife · Is a Moccamaster worth it if one isn't a huge detailed coffee person? Bonavita just feels sturdier and the coffee is as good if not better IMO.

r/BuyItForLife · Best Drip Coffee Maker This is one question that doesn't seem to go away... Reddit has a serious hard on for the Technivorm Moccamaster, but I'm going to give you another recommendation - Bonavita. I own both, and both are SCA-certified and brew excellent coffee. However, the Bonavita wins for me for the following reasons: * It's physically smaller and shorter, and can fit in more people's kitchen well. * It's easier to clean * It extracts better and brews coffee a couple degrees hotter * It's a simpler design * Bonavita carafes are excellent (glass or thermal), Moccamaster carafes are not (their thermal carafes are known to leak from the bottom because of a loose glass liner seal, and both their thermal and glass carafes are known to spill when pouring at a reasonable speed) * Bonavita uses a copper heating element just like Moccamaster, but is a significantly less expensive machine, and therefore much better value. Best of luck whatever you decide. Any SCA-certified machine will brew decent coffee, so enjoy. If you care most about good taste, start roasting your own beans, if you don't already. Also, I just want to mention that there are plenty of drip coffee makers whose manufacturers have never paid for SCA certification, but nevertheless brew excellent coffee. So while it's true to say SCA-certified brewers will make good coffee, it's certainly not true to say that non-SCA-certified brewers will not. One of my favorite coffee makers is a small 4-cup I picked up at a thrift store decades ago that has no manufacturer markings on it of any kind (so it was likely stolen from a hotel or something similar). It brews truly excellent coffee and cost me $4.99.
r/BuyItForLife · Best Drip Coffee Maker I disagree. While Zojirushi typically makes excellent products, they are on record saying that this coffee maker was built for style and for a price point. For just a little more one can buy a Bonavita that is every bit as simple - mine has only an on/off switch also. Nothing else is needed.
r/BuyItForLife · Any thoughts on the Simply Good coffee maker? It may or may not have copper, but where I am, this coffee brewer sells for more than a Moccamaster. Even if it didn't, though, you can get copper internals in much less expensive brewers than a Moccamaster - my BonaVita has copper and even now they sell for less than $200 (It was about $100 when I purchased it many year ago). And I firmly believe the BonaVita makes better coffee than the Moccamaster (I have both, and have done direct comparisons.)

r/JamesHoffmann · Best drip coffee makers for home with no bells and whistles? It looks very similar to their Zutto, which I had and do not recommend. It was serviceable for a coffeepot to keep in the office, but only worth it because I picked it up for about $15. You can get better for what they’re asking new. Look for a refurbished or open box Bonavita.

r/JamesHoffmann · If you had to recommend one coffee maker in 2026, what would it be? My best recommendation is go to the specialty coffee association website and look at their certified brewers. Find one that fits your budget. I just went from an 8 year old ninja coffee bar to a bonavita connoisseur. The ninja made pretty good coffee. I’ve been blown away by the increase in quality with the Bonavita. It tastes almost as good as pour over and is way more convenient than brewing that volume myself. I use a baratza encore grinder that is also 8 years old and going strong.

r/Moccamaster · Is upgrading to a Moccamaster actually worth it if I’m fine with my cheap drip machine? My uncle has the Bonavita and loves it. It does make good coffee. I have the MM KB with the drip lever and I pick the 1/2 pot option and fill it to 4 cups water. I get 1-1/2 cups out of it each morning. I also looked at MM Cup One but this is a better deal since I can make a full pot for company. I also got mine used for about $85.

r/Moccamaster · Is upgrading to a Moccamaster actually worth it if I’m fine with my cheap drip machine? I have been using one for the last few years. I had a bonavita for about 8 years before that. Ill take the bonavita anyday. Ive been pretty underwhelmed by the moccamaster. I dont think the wand perc does a good job. Half the machine feels like it was designed by brilliant engineers and the other half feels like it was not. It looks good and has been very reliable but Id still choose the bonavita just for the showerhead perch. In your case I would say the simple answer is no its not worth it for you.

r/BuyItForLife · SAFE alternative to Bunn MyCafe Coffee Maker? Have you posted in r/Coffee_Machines? I know at least one person there has one. But for a replacement - I collect coffee machines and have tried a bunch. Single cup is hard because a vast majority of single-cup coffee drinkers use pods so the market for single cup non-pod machines is very slim. IMO, the CupOne isn't worth the money. And the Aiden can do a single cup but again, cost, as the price of massive customizability which it doesn't sound like he cares about. If he doesn't want to dial in like the Aiden allows, check out the Ninja PB045. And also, consider the whole class called 5-cup coffee makers in general like the Bonavita one, which is very good, and SCA certified for like $100. The Zojirushi is nice (about $90), Krups makes a decent one too for VERY cheap. And surprisingly, I also like the Mr. Coffee 5-cup ($15-$20). I have the one with no timer, just a red switch on the side. Believe it or not, it can make a good cup of coffee. And I have found that because I can swing the shower head over the water reservoir, I can change how fast it blorfs the water onto the coffee by letting it warm the water in its own tank briefly. TLDR but hope that helps.

r/ProductQuery · Finally tossing my ancient coffee maker... what's everyone buying these days that actually lasts? Honestly, the fact that your old machine lasted long enough to become "ancient" is already a pretty good endorsement for buying simple over fancy 😅 The people I know who get 5-10+ years out of a coffee maker usually end up with boring recommendations: Moccamaster, Bonavita, Oxo, or a basic Cuisinart. Fewer moving parts, fewer smart features, fewer things to break. My rule is simple: if the marketing spends more time talking about Wi-Fi than coffee, I'm probably looking elsewhere.

r/JamesHoffmann · Best drip coffee makers for home with no bells and whistles? been there with the option overload. for that budget the [Bonavita Metropolitan](https://featherab.com/shopit?search_keywords=Bonavita+Metropolitan) is probably your answer. its one button no programming no timers just hot water and good showerhead design. got one for my mom who hates complicated gadgets and shes been using it daily for two years now. easy to clean too since the carafe lid comes apart and the basket is simple. ninja and cuisinart add too many features you dont need. bonavita just focuses on the basics.
r/JamesHoffmann · Best drip coffee makers for home with no bells and whistles? honestly i feel you, the coffee maker market is overwhelming now. my last one died too and i just wanted something basic. the Bonavita Metropolitan is right at $100 and does one thing well - makes hot water evenly over grounds. no timers or screens to deal with. the showerhead design is solid and the carafe keeps coffee hot without a burner. i'd avoid Ninja or Cuisinart if you want simple, they pack in too many extras. [Bonavita Metropolitan](https://featherab.com/shopit?search_keywords=Bonavita+Metropolitan+drip+coffee+maker) is what i switched to and cleaning takes maybe 30 seconds.

r/JamesHoffmann · Best drip coffee makers for home with no bells and whistles? A Moccamaster is one button but two or three times your budget. Refurbished models are around $229 on their website. I’ve read pros & cons to Bonavita but more cons as of late. Apparently they sold in the last few years & customer service has gone downhill. They do refurbs as well, google for the site. OXO would be my choice.

r/BuyItForLife · Drip Coffee maker with mostly steel parts I think you'd be better off learning about different types of plastics and the dangers of exposing them to hot water (there are some that are totally safe for exposure to hot water, but those don't get features in scary online articles). Most reputable manufacturers use PP (polypropylene) or other similar food-safe plastics. You're more likely to find problematic materials in older (retro-chic) or cheaper units. Steel isn't a great choice as it's a great thermal conductor, and works like a heat wick for hot coffee. It's actually *very good* at cooking coffee down. It isn't a health issue, but you're less likely to get a pleasant tastic cup of coffee. For true plastic-free but still high quality coffee, Chemex might be the way to go. Or, either a MoccaMaster or BonaVita that simulates pour-overbwith a showerhead, but replace the brew basket with something else. Glass/ceramic maybe? Honestly you're better off learning about plastics than trying to Frankenstein a plastic free coffee maker.
r/BuyItForLife · Buy it For Life Coffee Maker Hey, I have this same coffee maker. It sucks. I'm using it as a placeholder until I can decide on a decent automatic / forever option. My Bonavita lasted 6 years before petering out and dying. Great coffee consistently. Now I'm trying to decide between a moccamaster and a decent breville, possibly the Braun multi serve or Oxo 12 cup.

r/JamesHoffmann · Finally have a budget for a proper coffee maker, where do I even start if i need the best coffee maker? Don’t overthink it for a drip/pour over. I recommend a Bonavita coffee maker: it makes pour over coffee as a drip machine. Best coffee I’ve ever made at home from a drip machine. It’s consistent, one of the few that actually has a temperature control so the water temperature is consistent even if you life at high altitudes. They’re simple, and they work. For the grinder, I have a Capresso. Simple, gets the job done. The timer is not the most incredibly easy to get repeatable results down to fractions of a second, but that’s not needed in a drip machine. Whole set will cost less than $200, not focus on good beans and you’re good to go. Both my machines are over 10 years old and still going strong. I’ve literally had people say “I don’t usually like coffee, but I like the coffee you make.”

r/BuyItForLife · Best Drip Coffee Maker Pour over is one type I listed, I noticed you said nothing about moka pots, French press, or percolator (all far superior). Pour over is indeed what I do on weekends when I want a single good cup. As for the bonavita you cannot put the lid and the basket away, it doesn't fit and is annoying logistically and aesthetically. The button on the lid that helps pour is what failed after 4 years. Then it failed again. These are just my opinions, I think moka pot is the Best Buy for life coffee making apparatus. To each their own. My 50$ stainless moka pot will work for the rest of my life where any drip maker regardless will eventually fail.
r/BuyItForLife · Best Drip Coffee Maker The lid failed twice, and it bothered the hell out of me that you couldn't put it away assembled (the lid has to be separate). Otherwise it's a half decent drip maker. I find pour over, moka pot, percolator, and French press to all be better options than a drip.
r/BuyItForLife · Best Drip Coffee Maker I had the Bonavita and while it is a good coffee maker, it's not BIFL. Which is why I switched to moka pot.

r/JamesHoffmann · If you had to recommend one coffee maker in 2026, what would it be? I just went through this. It was between the OXO 8-cup or the moccamaster. I ordered the OXO and their grinder. It’s not the grinder most here would recommend, but it was still over $100 on top of a $200 brewer. It all just arrived today so I’ve not had a chance to test it (plus, I’m waiting on beans). If the OXO does not workout I’ll try the Moccamaster, but it has good reviews so I’m optimistic it will be ok. The issue is, reviews on many brewers were not good (Aidan, Breville Precision brewer, Bonavita) it sounds like these used to be good, but quality may have gone down? Everyone’s mileage may vary.

r/JamesHoffmann · Need Help with the Best Drip Coffee Maker 2026? Well from the ones you listed the moccamaster, oxo, and bonavita are really good for consistent drip coffee without too many complicated features. They have solid brewing and reliability. I like [this one](https://d1vsa0evaa8kw9.cloudfront.net/?q=reddit.FAQPad413/need_help_with_the_b) too. r/BuyItForLife · Need a quality coffee maker The different types of brewing do give different flavours and quality, but it doesn’t sound like you want to buy them all to try the differences. Do you recognise the difference between espresso from a coffee shop - maybe an Americano if you only drink black, and a drip coffee? The ones that come out of big batch vessels? I doubt you want to get a full espresso setup which is way over your budget. Or go to fully manual brewing with French press or pour over if you’re asking for a coffee ‘machine’. As someone else suggested the best or BIFL options will be either a Moccamaster or bonavita.

r/BuyItForLife · What is the best drip coffee maker currently in the market? honestly for all those boxes, Moccamaster is the answer. yeah it's around $300-350 but it checks every single one of your criteria \- taste: brews at the proper temp (195-205°F) which most drip makers don't. SCAA certified so the extraction is legit. makes coffee that tastes like pour over basically \- reliability: these things last 10-20+ years easily. all the parts are replaceable if something does break. it's the only drip maker that's actually buy it for life quality \- easy to clean: super simple design, no complicated parts. just rinse and descale occasionally \- price: not cheap but reasonable for what you get. way better value than replacing a $100 machine every 2 years if Moccamaster is too much, Bonavita Enthusiast is the best budget option around $150-200. also SCAA certified, brews properly, just not quite as bulletproof long-term Breville Precision Brewer is another solid option if you want more control and versatility, similar price to Moccamaster. [Got some idea through this list](https://www.roastycoffee.com/best-drip-coffee-maker/) so maybe it'll be worth the read for you too So do avoid anything with tons of programmable features and electronics, more stuff to break. simpler is better for reliability

There’s a few key variables to a “good” coffeemaker if you want to get the best out of your beans. You’ll want to look at water temps, flow rate, bed coverage, and consistency to name a few. Brands pay the SCA to test and certify their coffeemakers. They’re not all perfect, but they’re generally a safe bet. They also have a few cheaper options like the Bonavita.
