r/HomeNetworking · ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68 or ASUS ZenWiFi XT9? The big differences I see are: (1) the EBM68 has 2x the RAM (1GB) compared to the XT9 (512MB); (2) the EMB69 has VLAN support so you could segment your network, ensuring certain devices stay isolated (such as IoT devices) and unable to talk to your main WiFi network. Between these two I would get the EMB68. It looks like it's an upgraded XT9 with more features and RAM. Congrats for finding it at such a good price.
r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing I don't have specific advice for you (I agree with u/rrh_01 \- contact ASUS support). If the firmware update isn't applying, there is likely something going on with the equipment that only ASUS tech support can help you with. They will ask you to send them router logs and other diagnostic info so they can analyze the data and propose next steps. Good luck.

r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing I would call Asus tech-support during midmorning on a weekday. They are super helpful. If you call early morning, you will be inundated by wait times from East Coast colors. If you call late morning, you’ll be inundated by East Coast afternoon colors. Late morning for me is pacific time 10 to 12 maybe even one.

r/HomeNetworking · Dual Band Wifi 7 vs Tri Band Wifi 6 To be fair too, i only have 1 wifi 7 device at the moment. Also I've been living with generation 1 google mesh. And now that I've made some changes to the layout of my house, the coverage is soft in a room I really want it to be strong in. I could do wired backhaul but honestly, that is just another super frustrating project (running wires in a split level) in the list of never ending home projects. So it sounds like the XT9 is the play unless I wanna spend $500+ for a tri band wifi 7

r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing try it again using the updated app, ASUS appears to have fixed the issue
r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing Same for me ... it finally worked through the app and I had a successfull firmware upgrade for my two nodes. The install file did not seem to change (still 3.0.0.4.388\_24814) and so I am guessing they made some change through the app? PS: How big is your home that you need four nodes? LOL
r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing Thanks. Did you have to do anything to the downloaded file as in unzip it first?
r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing That is what tech support, over a chat, advised me to try. However, I do not feel like resetting my WiFi password and reconnecting all my IOT devices

r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing Lucky you. I read online that they strongly recommend a factory reset after downgrading firmware so I did that and just reconfigured everything manually. It didn’t take too long and I screenshotted everything prior. I think moving forward though, I’m going to always save a copy of the config prior to any firmware upgrade just in case I ever need to roll it back again. I’m back on 24768 and the router and all nodes are working flawlessly again 👍🏻👌🏻
r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWiFi XT9 latest firmware update failing Same issue here. After updating to 24814 the wifi connections are no longer stable and go in and out intermittently. I'm constantly getting notified to death that smart home devices are disconnecting and reconnecting 😞 I want to downgrade back to 24768 as well. Do you know whether we can save config in 24814 and then restore it after downgrading back to 24768? Or did you manually reconfigure everything after downgrading.....? Thanks!

r/ASUS · ZenWiFi XT9 router Remote Management settings Removed? FIXED: They changed the setting so it is not available while operating in Access Point (AP) mode. You must switch to **Wireless router mode**. I have a unique router mesh network set up behind a different router that's a Raspberry Pi ad blocking Ads, so I had my mesh set up as an AP, which worked fine for years. With this new change, I had to change my mesh ASUS network into router mode to still connect to it remotely.

r/HomeNetworking · Asus ZenWifi AI Mesh Dual WAN setup > Would it interfere, frequency-wise, with the existing mesh network? It depends on what frequencies are used by the mesh network, the wireless bridge and your neighbors. There's a good chance, at least, that you can set up the bridge to avoid the frequencies used by the mesh network. > Is there a potential for the extra back and forth to cause considerable lag or congestion? Adding a wireless bridge is definitely going to increase latency. How latency will be added and whether it will cause problems for your applications, I can't say. > You know what...I just realized I could have the secondary WAN go to a Raspberry Pi that then uses the same mesh network to establish a VPN over my secondary WAN, and that Raspberry Pi could be the "backup". This would be with equipment I already have. I'm doubling up the traffic on the existing AI mesh network, but only from the shop. Stuff from the house would work basically the same. > Is that wacky? Where would the other end of the VPN tunnel go? The XT9? I'm not sure it can use a VPN connection as a second WAN connection. But you could put another Pi next to the XT9 to receive the VPN connection from your office Pi. That would work. You still might run into latency issues due to the added overhead of a VPN. If the Asus system supported VLANs, that would be more straightforward than using an internal VPN tunnel.

r/HomeNetworking · Help me plan for wired ethernet? that sounds like it'll work... the router will be in the basement and the two xt9 will be where ever as nodes. that way they can cover the house wifi and i can still plug stuff into them? does that make sense?

r/HomeNetworking · Help me plan for wired ethernet? You'll run into double NAT issues if you use both the xt9s and the ax3000 in that way. You'd need to put the xt9s in to AP mode, this will make your ax3000 your DHCP server and the xt9s will simply broadcast WiFi and act as your switch for your 3 wired devices, any other features will be disabled.

r/ASUS · ZenWIFI XT 9 lost connection and won’t reconnect Hello, Thank you for providing the detailed description of your setup and the troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried with your ZenWiFi XT9 units. Based on what you’ve described, the issue seems to be related to the wireless backhaul link between the two nodes. Here are a few steps you can try to stabilize the connection: ▪Firmware Update – Please ensure both the main router and the node are running the latest firmware. Sometimes stability issues are addressed in updates. ▪Node Placement – Even though the node worked before, environmental factors such as new interference (neighbor Wi-Fi, appliances, or structural changes) can affect wireless backhaul. If possible, place the node slightly closer to the main router and test again. ▪Backhaul Settings – In the ASUS Router App or web interface, check if the system is prioritizing the 5 GHz-2 band for backhaul. Manually setting the preferred backhaul band can sometimes improve stability. ▪Factory Reset Both Units – Since only one node was reset, performing a factory reset on both the main router and the node, then re-adding them, can clear out any mismatched settings that may have developed. ▪Ethernet Backhaul Option – If running a cable is possible long term, a wired backhaul will always give you the most stable performance. If you continue experiencing issues after these steps, please share your current firmware version and a screenshot of your AiMesh topology so our team can review further.

I was able to perform the upload through my WiFi connection and not physically connecting to the devices. Note I had to upgrade each device in the mesh separately.
Yes you will have to unzip it prior to uploading. Make sure you have a backup of your config and make sure you are uploading the correct bios.
Mine was failing through the automatic upgrade process (via the web interface). I just ended up downloading the firmware directly from Asus and choosing manual upload. Worked for all the routers. (you will have to do it manually for all routers in your mesh network)
