Good "review", and these things sure seem popular with ex-Eero owners around here. I may have to move them up my list for 2023 for at least one of my homes where a transition would be smaller/simpler. The higher cost seems more than offset by the actual features you gain, and if you factor in the (new, higher) for Eero's paid add-on services, it's actually not more expensive, at least for smaller (2 or 3 unit) networks. Like you, my own problems with Eero have always been more on the "principle thing" you mention: they've shown such callous disdain for basic user needs, and (on the old sub) even expressed disregard rudely and dismissively, like the very opposite of a responsive company. This subreddit (and its predecessor) have papered over Eero weaknesses as they've been able to rely on volunteers and unpaid contributors to do a whole lot of the support they should have been doing themselves.

I ended with the ET12 and it's been stellar. I think you made a good choice, and glad you like it. I was never a big Asus guy before say the past year when I started checking out their products, but the configurability and performance are awesome, and they've been stable and reliable. I did use an AX86U with a wired AX86S satellite as the AiMesh point for awhile, and it was also excellent, but aesthetically I didn't like all of the antennas, so landed at the ET12. I really haven't had any stability or connection issues at all, other than a printer issue, but I think WPA3 was the issue. I think Asus turns on WPA3 by default, and once I set it to WPA2 only, that issue went away. The XT9 is a bit of a step up over the XT8, with 160 MH support on both 5GHz bands, and a bit faster CPU than the XT8 at 1.7 GHz (quad-core). And most Asus routers, including their mesh systems, other than maybe the XD4/XD5, support dual ISP's, which most other consumer solutions don't, so that's an added bonus. And you can set up multiple SSID's if you wish.

Hard reset and manually loaded update worked for me. It was crashing too frequently for anything else to work

When you hard reset use the same exact network id and password and everything will be as it was. No big deal at all

Lucky you. I read online that they strongly recommend a factory reset after downgrading firmware so I did that and just reconfigured everything manually. It didn’t take too long and I screenshotted everything prior. I think moving forward though, I’m going to always save a copy of the config prior to any firmware upgrade just in case I ever need to roll it back again. I’m back on 24768 and the router and all nodes are working flawlessly again 👍🏻👌🏻

Same issue here. After updating to 24814 the wifi connections are no longer stable and go in and out intermittently. I'm constantly getting notified to death that smart home devices are disconnecting and reconnecting 😞 I want to downgrade back to 24768 as well. Do you know whether we can save config in 24814 and then restore it after downgrading back to 24768? Or did you manually reconfigure everything after downgrading.....? Thanks!

I woke up to the same crash loop behavior and manually uploading it worked for me too. Good luck!

My light is white but after the manual update, the web portal instructed me to manually reboot. After turning it off and on again, it worked fine for me. Make sure to double check in the portal that the firmware version actually changed. My first attempt stalled and didn't go all the way through so I had to try again

I managed to update manually by running the update the moment it came up. Finished before the router crashed again

r/TpLink · Which whole home mesh system for 3000 sqft? →2023-10-01T09:37:01

I went back to Asus aimesh and been impressed with the XT9. I can get around 750Mbps on my gigabit connection in the loft ( top level ) wireless node where the XE75 in the same location struggled to get past 500Mbps. ( Asus allows much more more tweaking of things like wifi channels and settings ) Also USB port works well sharing a 4tb drive full of films to devices around the house via DNLA. TP link is geared more towards set and forget model with little tweaking allowed. The XE75 uses a *6GHz* network backhaul for wireless nodes in triband mode which actually has less range which made a difference if your house is made of brick walls. Just adding another M9 but making sures its placed correctly would be more beneficial, took me abit of tweaking to maximize locations. Think im good untill Wi-fi 7 becomes more mainstream and affordable.

No they're fine. I wrote this comment while I was banging my head in bad signal in my front room. I WA heavily pissed I know it all comes down to the two nodes being too spread apart but I don't have a choice in that setup due to where my coax comes into the house (into the back room) . I'm still a little disappointed that an 1200 sqft house isn't covered by two nodes. But I digress. I'm going to run an Ethernet cable to the living room node (from the back bedroom router node).
