XGIMI Horizon S Max

XGIMI Horizon S Max, packshot

r/budgetprojectors · XGIMI Horizon S Max Projector Review

In my opinion I would consider this to be competitively priced unit considering the lumen output and premium features this projector offers. The only other units that would be similar in price are the Valerion StreamMaster Plus 2, JMGO N1S, and Horizon S Max. Currently each is priced at • Valerion StreamMaster Plus 2 ($1999) • JMGO N1S Ultimate ($2,099) • XGIMI Horizon S Max ($1899 with exclusive promo code XGIMIPP this brings it down to $1,609.00) ——— We get more lumen output performance from both the XGIMI Horizion S Max and JMGO N1S over the Valerion Streammaster Plus 2. ——- Most users that are looking for a living room, dedicated indoor room or even an outdoor setup would go for the brighter option if they preferred. My personal preference would be to go for the brighter option, as what I’m looking for in a projector is great HDR performance, 3D and a bright image with both the lights on and off. With any projector out there, once you step up in lumen output the cost goes up. My alternative option would be the XGIMI S pro if I wanted a similar experience but with a reduced lumen output and no IMAX Enhanced. —— Considering all this information, I would still consider this to be a great option, even if I went out and bought this projector myself. I wouldn’t see myself buying another projector for quite a long time. I

TV hardware is pretty underpowered nowadays so I’m not surprised about the longer app loading times. Generally the alternative is a streaming stick plugged into a projector. They’re so cheap these days you can pick them up for around $25-$40. I typically use the android tv on my Horizon S Max and also my game consoles as my video sources.

Android TV is typically resource intensive so while the switching between apps may take a second it’s definitely not completely unusable. It’s like that on a lot of products even TVs too. What’s cool about this unit is the size. I think it would be pretty cool to build a waterproof Enclosure for it. Especially when it’s still a manageable temp outside for it. Tonight it was 54°F which in the south it’s pretty chilly. 73% humidity. The Horizon S Max handled the colder temp with no issues. It would be great to see some photos of your unit in action. Definitely post some when you get a chance on the subreddit here! :)

I’ll be happy to add a summary for my review. I’ll have it posted in the pinned comment. The best scenarios of where I’ve set up this projector at were with my 120 inch manual pull down projector screen inside, 150 inch manual pulldown screen that is outside, and the 16 foot white brick painted wall surface that is outside the home. I found that for all these image sizes the projector performed well due to the increased lumen output that was available. I especially liked the fact that this projector was really easy to set up. All I had to do was power on and point it at the surface. Overall set up just took a few minutes. I had to do some manual key stoning on the wall surface because I was projecting diagonal, but it wasn’t something that was going to take a significant amount of time either..

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait...

The Horizon S Max is definitely brighter, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into better image quality—except that it does make daytime viewing easier. In a dark room, both projectors look great. That said, when a full white image is displayed at 100", the Horizon S Max is so bright that it can actually make you squint—it’s like staring at the sun, lol. In terms of sharpness, I didn’t notice a difference in image clarity between the two based solely on the brightness (lumens). However, if you're placing the projector in a room where daylight comes in and you can’t darken the space, the higher lumens of the S Max would definitely be the better option. It is way more noticable with anime. I also tested both projectors with Venom on Netflix in 4K, as well as several 4K videos on YouTube. In those cases, the differences were subtler and sometimes hard to spot. In fact, I’d even go as far as to say that for certain types of content—like live sports—it might be better to disable the Iris Contrast Enhancement and/or iMax Mode on the Max to get an even brighter-looking picture. In my comparison photos, the 3200 lumens from the S Max made the image look slightly more washed out, which I felt didn’t give a completely fair representation. So I also included some images with just the Horizon S Pro turned on to show that it still produces an excellent picture. Honestly, if I had only purchased the Pro, I’d still be very happy with it. It’s only in a side-by-side comparison that the contrast improvements of the Horizon S Max become noticeable.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait...

I recently purchased both the Horizon S Pro and the Horizon S Max projectors. If you choose the Pro model, you save $600, which is a significant amount. However, the Horizon S Max includes two additional features: iMax Mode and Iris Contrast Enhancement Mode. According to the manufacturer, the Iris mode “enhances light and dark areas, making dark details more visible.” To compare the two, I tested both projectors using the same settings as closely as possible. While streaming 4K content on Crunchyroll, I found that the only visible difference was this: the image on the left (from the Horizon S Max) had both iMax Mode and Iris Contrast Enhancement enabled, while the image on the right (from the Horizon S Pro) did not. If you’ve only experienced the Pro model, you’ll still be impressed—the 4K image is crisp and clear. However, the Max version offers more advanced settings that can enhance picture depth and color vibrancy. When activating the Iris mode, you’ll hear a click from the projector, suggesting a mechanical adjustment (possibly a lens shift or iris blade adjustment). When I disabled all enhancement features on the Max, the image looked nearly identical to that of the Pro. That said, the difference becomes more noticeable—especially in animated content like anime—when the Max’s features are turned on. Personally, I prefer the Horizon S Max and, for me, the extra $600 is justified by the improved image quality and customization. Also, you will need to disable iMax Mode to enable Game Mode then reenable iMax Mode in order for anime to appear smoothly (both projectors have the game mode setting). https://preview.redd.it/w1iern9eel7f1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88fb9c75ec31c6951dd44bd09d4eb4df8eb3431c

not having more than one one hdmi port kind of sucks but if you have a speaker system that has eARC/ARC there are usually 2 or more HDMI ports in. I setup my XGIMI Pro Max with Apple TV in one of the speaker ports and the stick from Xgimi in the other and it works amazing.

Piggy backing... I'm in the same ball park.. I was initially going to get the xgimi horizon s max, and then immediately noticed no regular hdr10, which led to that video comparison of all the "lifestyle" projectors in that range. If it was still kick starter prices I'd have the valerion max on the way already, but I missed that boat. I'm leaning towards the c2 ultra, but its just slightly more than I want to really spend. What other comparable options are there that have all the same bells and whistles, $1500-$2000 range. Not limited to "lifestyle" types?

I can only speak for having this projector and it’s great. I’ve not really kept up to date with newer models of this although they have launched the 20 series. But all the comments / review on this are still very much applicable. If you need one a little bright I bet the s max is so much cheaper now too.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait...

I'm sure there will be a lot of C1 advocates out there... It sounds like it's a fantastic projector from what I've read. A few things that helped make my decision. \- No gimble for the C1 and I'm moving my projector around (if there is one, it's an additional cost). \- I read a lot about the C1 fan noise and it kicks in by design every 'x' period, the fan on XGIMI is very quiet it was perhaps .5-1m away from me and I could barely hear it and no increase in fan at full brightness for an entire movie. \- Brightness - there's not a huge difference in brightness on paper, but I kept reading C1 shouldn't be used with much light. For the XGIMI, I've had no issue. It obviously matters what you project on to as well, but given there were no reviews for S Pro, only S Max, I thought I'd take a gamble. C1 was my second choice but it's been around for a while now and the cost just didn't feel like as much value. It was really a debate for the S Max or S Pro in my mind and the £500 or so I've saved feels much more satisfying.

The main downside of this projector. \- 1 HDMI only is a disgrace at that price point. Forced to buy an switcher just to plug the PS5 and my Retrotink 4k. \- No audio out !!! Only bluetooth or a soundbar which hardly make sense with a projector. Which will force into a slightly laggy sound if you use analogue speakers. Personally don't care about the integrated speaker. I need proper sound to match the quality of the image at that price point. \- Poor CPU, this thing struggles to even navigate its OS. Mega slow to switch HDMI input. Not even a short cut switch HDMI on the remote wtf Not sure I would buy it again if I had realised this. That being said it's great looking 4k projector that matches my wall colours which is basically why I kept it and spent hours to find workaround for my problems. A 7/10 I would say in terms of satisfaction.

r/projectors · Xgimi horizon s max or hisense c2 base model

Depends on your use case and room. If you prioritize image above all, native contrast matters: the darker the viewing room, the darker the black floor will be. Conversely, the lighter the room (i.e. the more you have to contest with ambient light) the more lumens output matters. So I'd say if you have a very well light controlled room, go for the Hisense. But it you're also gonna be doing a lot of living room/daytime/outdoor evening viewing, prioritize the extra brightness. But it's weird, imo the S max should be more expensive than the C2 base. I have a C2 pro and it's epic, aside from the rainbow effect.

r/projectors · Unpopular Opinion: Are We Experiencing Peak Hype? My Take on the Valerion VisionMaster Max (And the Echo Chamber Review Culture)

I do trust the hook up, very informative and exhaustive reviews. Your comment about colour blindness made me think as I too have mild colour blindness. I’ve tried the Valerion Pro and Max models plus the new XGIMI Horizon 20 Max. I couldn’t get on with any of them and have reverted to my older XGIMI Horizon S Max which to my eyes anyway seems to give a better image. The older XGIMI uses dual light rather than laser so that might be the defining factor.

I also got mine last week, and am really happy with it so far. It has some limitations, as you say (including the restriction on throw distance), but at the same time I love the quality of the in-built speaker and the ease of use overall. With mine, I got a free Xgimi HDMI stick that includes Netflix and few other things not built into the main OS. That said, for everything else I wanted (eg iPlayer) I downloaded the APK and installed it - pretty much took minutes and Xgimi even encourage it on their website.

    r/xgimi · Horizon Ultra or s- max

Its a difficult one that i am considering atm. Im not concerned about the hdmi due to switchers etc and im not concerned about android 11 as it will be connected to a ps5 for gaming and streaming tv. My concern is the optical zoom vs digital which favours the ultra but then the s max has 3100 iso lumens vs the 2300 of the ultra. So i guess it comes down to how it will be used. If the brightness would benefit you then go with the s max but positioning would be key. Or if you utilise the zoom feature a lot then maybe the horizon is the one for you? How did you use the projector? For example how far away from the wall was it? And what position did you have it in?

r/xgimi · Hold off until the Horizon S Max or go for the Ultra?

The horizons have a huge power brick on the outside so less heat inside so maybe that explains the problem with Hisense's fan noise? Is the power built in with yours? I had to return my horizon ultra after 6 months. Good machine, i love it, but the power connector didn't go totally into the dc-in and it broke the plastic inside the dc-in, exposing the pins. Also that power brick is an accident waiting to happen. If it falls off and it's connected, it not only yanks out the dc-in but possibly also the whole beamer. They show it as a portable machine around the house but then this makes it a design flaw. Luckily it's inside the warranty so they give me a new one. Now I'm checking the s-max and wonder if I should pay the extra. The dc-in is lower to the surface so that feels safer to me. Also the extra lumen and contrast looks tempting. Only there are way less ports in the back. Not sure if this is an issue for me i just like to have options. I have to say i like the design of the ultra better. More contemporary..... Damn luxury problems!

r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra?

Understand that you are going to be reducing the image size digitally, and will lose almost 70% of the projector's brightness when you have it so far away from the screen. This would be bad enough if this were in a properly darkened room, but when you are looking at a room with ambient light it's just asinine to try to put a projector in such a setup. I'd get a TV instead. Every day of the week. If at all possible, I'd figure it out. Or, I'd at least put the projector exactly where it is designed to go or really close so I wasn't losing so much resolution and brightness.

Peut-on brancher plusieurs consoles ?
