XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro

XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro, packshot

r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

It's not, don't buy older projector model the likes of c2 is ancient already. 20 pro is a lot brighter than c2 (iirc 50%), has vrr and vertical / horizontal shift. All OP issues can be resolved by using external box player and home speakers, they're not projector issue.

r/projectors · Xgimi Horizon Pro or Valerion Vision Master 2 - need advice

You're not using a screen and in a regular room, you don't have to worry about black levels as your room is too bright regardless. Yeah the throw is different, however take note the shorter throw has worst contrast. For the pro2 if you use the 0.9 throw ratio instead of the 1.5, you'll be getting 42% lesser native contrast. You can experiment with plexi mirror to increase the throw distance but it has it's own issues too. The brightness between both is close, pro2 is like 10% brighter.

r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

Their lens is good though. Is your room dark enough? The xgimi 20 pro / max has a lot less internal reflection than it's competitors like valerion that it has better ansi contrast - the brighter the picture/ higher apl Also, most reviewers and users don't use the build in software so they aren't bothered by your issues like stuttering disney+ app, laggy interface, no airplay, bad speakers etc.

r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

Cause you said there's no brightness difference as it's not true, only likely scenario is that it's not calibrated. Yeah lens shift disable features but it's either that or digital keystone. What feature does it disable that is significant ?

r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

Most reviewers and consumer feedback for projector are not lifestyle users. You didn't find horizon 20 pro to be brighter as you didn't calibrate or even use movie mode for color accuracy. Lens shift helps with placement, just go see the countless post on Reddit on people asking why they see outer light bleed due to keystone - like this https://www.reddit.com/r/projectors/comments/17v6m0h/is_this_outer_light_normal/

    Installation facileSalon lumineux
r/projectors · Xgimi Horizon Pro or Valerion Vision Master 2 - need advice

You mean zoom then no, it's the throw ratio. Yeah the labeling is confusing, it's the opposite of each other 1.25x zoom is 1.2 throw ratio, 1.0x zoom is 1.5 throw ratio. Here: https://www.projectorcentral.com/XGIMI-HORIZON_20_Pro-projection-calculator-pro.htm#calc Yeah 4m for 120", hence I mentioned earlier you may want to experiment with mirrors haha. Also, hence why I prefer ust that you can get that 3-4k contrast without the absurd distance of long throw projector.

    r/projectors · Choosing a video projector for a semi-lit room

You have to be realistic, that never in your life have you gone to a semi-lit movie theater. That doesn't mean you can't project, but there is a reason theaters are dark, and your image will take a significant hit when you add ambient light. It won't make the projector unusable, but it will definitely remove that cinematic feel. As well, about half of the theater impact is the sound treated room that is painted completely dark. It's a quiet space with excellent audio. Something many people don't want to address with anything more than a speakerbar these days. The models you listed are all solid choices. BenQ thrown in is a good choice as well. At the end of the day, these models are all DLP projectors using the same DLP chip inside of them. They are more similar than different. The worst one would be considered very bright and high resolution from what we had 15 years ago. I personally think that models with optical zoom and a good amount of lens shift are the best purchase as they make setup far easier. So, I lean heavily into the Horizon 20 being a solid choice. If you need more brightness, and can afford it, get the better models. You have to understand throw distance, and learn to use this tool... [https://www.projectorcentral.com/xgimi-horizon\_20-projection-calculator-pro.htm](https://www.projectorcentral.com/xgimi-horizon_20-projection-calculator-pro.htm) You should also spend some time watching videos from a proper review YouTube channel. I like this as one of the best because of the real world comparisons of models put head to head at various price points... [https://www.youtube.com/thehookup](https://www.youtube.com/thehookup) You aren't going to struggle at your price point to find a solid projector that looks good. You will still only get part of the theatrical experience if you don't have great audio. You will probably be shocked at how good the image actually is after dark.

r/projectors · JMGO N1S ultra vs XGMI Horizon 20 - which one to choose

If you plan to move the projector around often, then the N1S may be the better choice. If you aren't moving it all the time, the optical zoom and lens shift of the H20 combine with the better contrast for the clear winner. I think XGimi is working to fix the complaints you have about it. Not the first time I think they have come up. As said though, this is absolutely your choice. I take image quality every day of the week. Kinda crazy about the noise. I'd look for a lower power setting to see if you can dial it back. I can say the XGimi Titan Noir is nearly dead silent, as is their Elfin Flip 4K. The Flip is noisier than the Noir, but not intrusive in any way.

I have this and many comparable units in my showroom and well… a “couple” of screens as well. It is certainly way better than the freestyle which is really just a toy. As far as screens go, your rooms lighting, screen size and seating viewing angles all play into the projection system. r/projectors · What to choise, advise needed

Honestly? I'd go BenQ and not think twice. Look, the XGIMI gets a lot of love because it's got a nice interface and it auto-adjusts everything, which is cool. But for PS5 gaming and some daytime watching? The BenQ just makes more sense. Brighter, lower input lag, short throw (no shadows when you're gaming), and it's 500€ cheaper. The XGIMI is a solid projector. But for what you actually need, I think BenQ is the better call. If you're curious what else is out there around this budget, I [put together a comparison here](https://medium.com/@dejan-k/projector-vs-100-inch-tv-2026-d0b6e18c3c14), might help you see all the options. If you are not focused on gaming. The XGIMI is awesome and top of the line for a lifestyle but there are some bugs and there will be more software updates. The C2 Ultra has been out for awhile and is a lot more stable. It can be had for a solid price compared to what it was when it was first released.

r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra or Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro

I have both currently. Keeping the c2 ultra since it is just smoother overall. No need for external speakers or a firestick due to software bugs. Spec-wise they feel similar to me. VIDAA OS is snappier. One major difference is the throw distance for the Hisense can be much closer to the wall.

r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

Even though the c3 is around the corner, the Hisense c2 ultra is neck and neck with the horizon 20 pro with similar specs. The horizon 20 pro is maybe a touch brighter but not significantly. The chip in the Hisense is a gen older but I wouldn’t translate that to outdated. Hisense feels more like an Apple product where everything just works.

r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

I had it off due to the artifacts and black delays. I have only tried onboard apps. The projector sits on our table and projects onto our foyer wall across the stairs. Having any additional equipment there would be a big eyesore, so I’m not looking to add speakers or fire sticks.

    Smart / Android TV
r/projectors · Why do most reviewers prefer xgimi over Hisense?

The lens shift is cool, but it shuts off features, so I didn’t use it. I didn’t find the horizon 20 pro much brighter than the c2 ultra in practice. I don’t understand why reviewers don’t use these features. They are lifestyle projectors with the intent you use all the onboard stuff.

r/projectors · A few days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro & Base Model + Feedback

Hook Up measured the Dynamic Black Level being broken on the Pro, which could explain the lack of defined difference in HDR content, which you can see in the Avatar image, they're shockingly close except in highlights. So I hope Xgimi fixes that up in software, but I'm overall pretty happy with current native contrast on the Pro & Base!

r/projectors · A few days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro & Base Model + Feedback

I can't say I have noticed so far in real-world use. I have noticed a few problems potentially with how HDR is handled by the Pro without tone mapping (extreme blow-out beyond the metadata), but I'm also not sure what method Hookup uses to measure the Dynamic Contrast. I would hope it is as simple as a software fix if it is the case.

r/projectors · A few days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro & Base Model + Feedback

Honestly I love it. Laser speckle is noticable (not distracting) in pure block colour or whites on full brightness (using the Pro), but has never drawn my focus, and is significantly reduced from the Hisense C2 Ultra I previously used. The Base shows slightly less speckle I would assume due to the brightness reduction. If you're doing daytime watching ALR is pretty unbeatable, but if you're doing something light-controlled I've heard good things about standard grey screens, especially Silver Ticket!

r/JMGO_official · JMGO N3 Ultimate vs JmGO N5 Ultra Max

Wow an actual Human sounding response. It's insane how much better I've seen JMGO support be compared to the Fiasco that is XGIMI right now . I regret not getting the N3 Ultimate. I had gotten a Horizon 20 Pro and it's been nothing but issues with firmware updates and broken features . I got an N1S 4K for a steal with a discount code and it brought the outdoor screen and stand . It blew me away at how easy it was to setup (even without optical zoom) and it had less speckle and rainbow effect compared to the much more expensive Horizon 20 Pro . My wife and I are legitimately looking to get an N3 Ultimate now and we're probably gonna do some reviews now. Seeing how much better you guys respond has pretty much sealed the deal for us . XGIMI even sent me a Vibe One for my troubles and it got put away because the N1S 4K just does a much better job .

I have a Chinese version of the projector and cannot hear high pitch voice, only the fans. it is not common for this projector. I guess either you got a defective unit or sensitive hearing. "ZGIMI Horizon 20Pro — seems like it could work but I don't like those "smart" projectors for the lack of control." I have this one and i am in love with it, Not sure what lack of control yous peak of, you can turn off all auto settings and do it all urself. Personally i keep them on because i am kind of a "noob" at this and i think auto will mostly do better than my own tinkering for now :X (I also like that you don't have to put it perfectly center X millimeters away from the screen/wall to get the best imgage because it has those lense shift and what not) But as for the projector it has excellent light, i've even used it midday with entire right side having windows with lights coming in, was still watchable but obviously not ideal.

I'm also from Spain and had the same dilemma with these 2 projectors (Valerion vs Xgimi horizon 20 pro). I ended up buying the Xgimi solely because of the lens shift as it will have to be placed on the side of the sofa and felt that Valerion slight better picture would not be fully utilized in those conditions... I'm receiving mine this next Friday, I'll check if the lens shift truly makes it work for my setup and if I see that I end up needing keystone either way then I will likely return it and go Valerion. My reasoning was that Valerion is the top performer but based on the Hookup review Xgimi is close and with way to improve with software. r/projectors · What projector to buy?

I also had these options to choose from. I wouldn't even consider the normal Horizon 20, as the Pro is significantly better thanks to the "Red Ring" optic. Take a look at the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bgx841ENRc Unless it's over your budget. I'm still going back and forth about whether to keep the Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 or the Horizon 20 Pro. The Valerion currently has the significantly better black level, but the Horizon 20 Pro should improve with firmware updates. It's still a bit buggy at the moment. If you really only project onto a wall, then I would probably go for the Valerion. But I have one comment on that. Everyone mentions how quiet it is. The fans are indeed very quiet, but there is a kind of humming or whirring noise coming from the projector, especially when it is running at full brightness. However, I can only speak for the Pro2. I have no idea how it is with the normal Pro. With the Horizon 20 Pro, this humming/buzzing is very quiet. I don't know if I just got a defective Valerion, but I've read about it in other comments, even with the normal Pro.

When calibrated this projector has a maximum of 3500 lumens available, this is very bright and would be able to be used with some non direct light in the room. I use a matte white 1.3 gain screen. If you are planning for a 92" screen from only 10' away I would think the pro would be acceptable. Max is the only one that has the RBE reduction right now, but my understanding is that there are plans to bring it to the Pro 2, but no official dates on that yet. If the RBE reduction feature is important to you then you should go with the Max or Pro2. If RBE is typically not a problem for you neither the Horizon 20 Max nor Horizon 20 Pro exhibit above average RBE and I think would be a better fit for your space.

I have a Titan Noir Max coming that will have this feature and I'm hoping it will address it, otherwise the Valerian solution is supposed to work very well. But your Horizon already has this feature that should reduce it to some degree if you are on the latest firmware (USB update required, OTA doesn't have it).

I just got mine. Thing is an absolute beast. My room is fairly dark but I have white walls which bounce light around a lot so I think I that low gain screens work best for me. This projector is really bright so you can project onto a pretty dark gray material and still have great highlights with much deeper blacks. Looks way better like this than with my white wall. I ended up building my screen out of spandex because it was low gain, doesnt speckle, and is acoustically transparent. Plus it was way cheaper and allowed me to fit the space perfectly.

You might've gotten a bad one. I replaced my JMGO N1 Ultra with a Horizon 20 Pro a few weeks ago and it's definitely much louder than the old JMGO. Same fan speed at all laser settings (apart from 10+, which makes it spin light crazy). The noise was bothering me quite a bit, and yesterday the projector actually turned off while watching a movie and completely died. I can't manage to turn it on again. Luckily it was delivered just 10 days ago so I'm returning it to Amazon. So if your projector is louder than expected… it's a possible sign that something might be wrong with it, because most people that have one mention that it should be almost silent at low laser settings.

If the H20 Pro is bright enough for you, you don't need to wait for the new range. Buying electronics is never a good investment as it quickly drops in value so by the time the H30 arrives on the market, the price of the H20 range will have dropped. I see where you’re coming from with your set up, but for me Basically, i’ve never even owned a tv! I love watching films but I have only had a laptop until now. My vision for This Is having a really good projector and screen that I can fold away and put away when it’s not in use, where I can watch films in a very immersive way. I was going to get the horizon ultra and then I realised I have budget for the horizon 20 and now I’m getting sucked into the titan noir but it looks really physically huge, has not been tested properly and I guess I’d have to wait at least three months to get one (and I’d obviously only get the base Model). So basically, I’m torn between getting the Titan noir or just getting the horizon 20 pro which is having a little sale now! I’m sure any projector I buy will be mind blowing for me after watching on a laptop for so many years. Oh, and I was gonna get the ez cinema screen from elite screens so that when I’m not using it, I can just fold it away and hide it on top of my shelf lol

Well, the upgrade would offer a brighter image and triple laser technology over a laser-LED hybrid. So, it does have its advantages. If you’re willing to spend that much money just to casually view it, I won’t dissuade you from doing so. However, you should be aware that this is essentially the point of diminishing returns.

    r/projectors · What to choise,advise needed

Well we also need to factor in ALR screen as well. Since I don’t own an ALR screen, I usually keep my blinds closed to accommodate the white screen I’m using. Both of them look fine. Room treatment comes first over the projector tbh.

r/projectors · What’s better for watching movies? Valerion VisionMaster Pro or Pro 2?

Not sure if you pulled the plug or not but here is what I found. I recently went down a similar rabbit hole deciding on what to buy and what I wanted it for. I had narrowed it down to the nebula x1, Benq TK705STi, the visionmaster pro 1 or 2, xgimi horizon 20 or 20 pro and the trivision ultra. I wanted a projector to watch the world cup outdoors in evenings/ night along with a projector that would deliver a good picture in the dark for movies etc that wouldn't burn the eyes off of me/ has decent black levels. I also am aware that most projectors will be washed out in evenings (until it gets darker) on a standard white screen but I dont care as long as I can make out who can score etc. Reviews on the horizon 20 and pro stopped me buying this as the rbe is very bad allegedly. The trivision is not sold here. So I went with the visionmaster 1 as I got a really good deal at 1600 euro. Image is very watchable on a wall during day with light shining on wall. Can be washed out though if sun raises its wonderful head. Colour and black levels at night are excellent. Very vivid. Good contrast. No rbe as the new rbe software works great. No laser speckle noticeable my end either. All in all I would say I'm delighted with my purchase, no complaints.

r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max

I own the base horizon 20 and projecting on a 170” white wall, the quality is too good infact I have to reduce brightness to 8 with boost off. I think max would be an overkill. If you have lit room only then Pro or Max will be helpful otherwise even the base model performs well in lightly lit rooms. At 100” it gets too bright.

r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max

Thanks for the explanation! Actually I won’t be projecting at 185 inches. I’ll use the optical zoom to reduce the image size. My constraint is a 75cm table sitting below the projection area, so I need to shift the image up using lens shift, and zoom in to keep the image within the available wall space (235cm total height). I’m targeting around 120 inches, which should put me in a much more comfortable range brightness-wise with the Pro.

r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max

After reading your article, I think I have my answer. My use case is mostly evening/night viewing, and you explicitly say the Max is "ideal with an ALR screen" which I don't plan to use. On a white wall, you even say it would be wasteful ... My room gets bright in summer evenings west-facing but I have shutters for the worst cases. Going with the Pro at €1,769 ... saves me €775 for no real compromise in my setup. Thanks for the thorough comparison!

r/projectors · Early days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max

I'm very happy with the Pro. At full zoom across my room I get great contrast and sharpness. I do not use 3D so cannot help there. I believe the pro provides the minimum lumens required for hdr content on a 100in or larger screen.(I never reduce brightness below 10) Keep in mind that true 6000ansi lumen projectors are around the corner.

Sold the Max and stayed with the XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro. Many bugs in the software but the image quality is excellent to me. Perceived contrast without ebl is higher on the XGIMI due to the better lens. Peak brightness was higher (blinding) on the Max but only noticeable on flash scenes.(Spotlights or explosions) Iris on the Valerion did improve contrast but at expense of brightness. I found I never used anything above level 2 (out of 6) anyway.

r/projectors · Keep my BenQ HT3550 or buy XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro?

Also if you wanna stick with the horizon 20 pro it does have its benefits like easy placement due to lens shift, one of the sharpest lenses and good for gaming and very bright, the cons are bad software or buggy with their ebl (enhanced black levels) which is usually the biggest con i’ve seen which if they fix that i assume it’d be a great projector but it seems as they’ve struggled to even getting it to work with dolby vision, etc, and just unreliable updates etc but for the price it could be perfect for you honestly and 400 more usable lumens is a decent jump with the choice to go higher with only a loss to contrast and acuracy in picture color.

The 20 pro would be an upgrade in terms of brightness, it does not have 2200 ANSI lumens as someone sugested. I replaced my Epson eh-tw9300 ( us model 5040ub ) 2400 ANSI lumens with the horizon 20 pro and in terms of brightness it mops the floor with the epson. The horizon 20 pro has 10 levels of brightnes and a luminance boost mode and even on lv 1 it was alrady brighter then the Epson. For now I use level 3-5 with lights on and have a good picture. What you luse is the black floor. Also using a alr screen helps a bit 😁

    r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra/Vidda C3 ultra/XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro

If you want brightness and punch for a living room with some light leakage and lamps on, the Horizon 20 Pro is a great pick. It handles ambient light really well and looks great for movies and gaming. It’s brighter than most in its class and gives you solid color and contrast in real viewing. Some folks mention a little rainbow effect with DLP, but personally I’ve barely noticed it and have enjoyed using this projector

r/projectors · What projector to buy?

r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra or Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro

The colors do look really good. I read some reviews saying the xgimi blacks looked more washed out than the hisense. After everything and your words im now leaning more towards hisense. Ive been seeing there is also the c3 vidda now that can be purchased from China and have been considering that, although it seems like it runs a Chinese OS(menus are in english) but doesn't include the Google TV operating system. I dont care so much about that as ill be using a firestick but my main things are contrast/color/brightness, my living room has blackout curtains but id like to be able to have a light or two overhead on. Im still on a benq ht2060 and when lights come on its totally washed out on a fixed frame screen. Since a projector is a purchase ill be keeping for awhile, id like to make the right decision and id rather not buy 3 different projectors at once and try them out because that's a good chunk of change to drop. Thank you for your help though, I appreciate the response and the pictures, trying to make this decision and place an order in the next couple days.

r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra or Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro

Set aside the speakers, as far as brightness and picture quality which do you think was better? Im currently trying to make the same decision and im leaning toward the horizon 20 pro because of all the things im reading and specs on brightness. But ive been racking my mind trying to decide between the two. Im curious what a regular user, not a review page, who has tried them both side by side thinks? Thanks

r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra or Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro

I stuck with the Hisense bc I felt like the color looks better. That is totally subjective but I do work in film where I’m constantly in meetings about color correction. Contrast is probably similar imo. I think xgimj is still working on fixing their dynamic contrast feature but I don’t like to use them. In the other projectors I’ve tried I could always see the projector processes the image then adjust the black level every time it switched scenes. Even though it was a split second it still bothered me. I’ve watched a few movies with the projector and used it for the Super Bowl on Sunday and have been very happy with it. I find myself fiddling with the color less, which is what was important to me. Brightness hasn’t been an issue for me, or something I was super concerned about. Only on Sunday when the Super Bowl started at 3:30 was I concerned about it being too light at my friends house but it was just fine. Even with a decent amount of ambient light we could watch the game no problem. I’ve included a photo of it at the beginning of the game around 3 in the afternoon. Hope that helps! https://preview.redd.it/jigtja1cgwig1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=878d87022cff27706b664c2002fc142e0de39873

r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra or Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro

I have the C2 ultra and a friend has the 20 pro. By looks the xgimi wins. By sound the C2 ultra wins. By UI ease of use and smoothness the C2 wins. By SW versatility the xgimi wins (google os). By brightness for daytime viewing the xgimi wins (4100lm vs 3000lm). By picture quality and contrast the C2 wins. xgimi vs hisense in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mKQqU6t\_1s. Conclusion for daytime viewing I'd get the xgimi 20 pro and for overall picture quality I'd definitively get the C2 ultra. Btw. on Alibaba you can already get the upcoming C3 and C5 (XR10 in Europe) with the Chinese OS if you are feeling adventurous.

r/projectors · Advice needed: Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2 vs XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro (RBE sensitivity + White Wall)

I got the hisense c2 ultra (3000 lumen) and it‘s great just on my not even completely smooth white wall. If the wall is reasonably flat it will work fine.  I have never tested a valerion. If you‘re looking for something brighter then go for the xgimi 20 pro (4100 lumen). I chose the c2 because I liked the contrast better than on the xgimi but on the other hand 4100 lumen make daytime viewing better.  PS: On alibaba you could even get the vidda c5 (hisense xr10) with 6100 lumen. But don’t ask me how warranty cases are handled there.

maybe theyve made a software improvement on 20 pro , one of the bits i enjoyed was the software, everything was super easy with the google tv os. maybe ive not used enough yet to see the issues? The auto correct too i was super amazed by but ive not had a projector before so my opinion is blank in terms of real world experience. I did look at the c2 but fropm my reading the 20 pro was best buy for my money. The pro has a red lens something or other. I didnt understand but apparently its a noticable visual improvement and I thought was worth the extra 200

This is not new in any market. It's up to us to filter the slop. There are many great products, big and small, from a 2 buck phone case to a modern car that have sponsored reviews. I really doubt  xgimi horizon 20 pro has bad contrast because I filter slop.

    r/projectors · XGIMI horizon 20 vs 20 pro

I have returned mine. It's a great projector but it is a beta-test stage product. Software is not fully functional and there is no guarantee that it will be possible to fix everything. How can anyone say if these are durable? It launched relatively recently.

r/projectors · Making a decision by the end of the week. C2 ultra or Xgimi horizon 20 max

Xgimi horizon 20 max is very bright and it can be too much for cinema room even on lowest setting. You can go with 20 pro for lower brightness. Unfortunately, the black floor of either projector is not all that good and it is a widespread issue in sub 3000 projector market. You can increase perceived contrast by using letnicular screen in cinema room or Fresnel screen in living room. Some calibration can also make blacks look more black. You can also try Nebula x1 pro for better black performance or nexigo aurora pro mkii. They roll out updates to dynamic iris for x1 model as well.

    r/projectors · Valerion plus vs XGIMI 20

Valerion plus is only a viable option if you have absolute flexibility with placement of the projector and high degree of light control in the room. Valerion has better dynamic contrast as of now. XGIMI tries to come up with working dimming algo but so far it is the worst among all competitors. There is noticeable improvement when buying 20 pro due to the red lens but the price jump could destroy the value proposition. If you can perfectly position the valerion and will be watching in the light control room just get valerion. If you want to move the projector around a bit or have any flexibility in projector placement you should go with xgimi. The actual movie mode brightness difference is roughly ~15%. For my room the throw ratio of valerion was not working and I wanted lens shift, so I went with xgimi. If you are on strict budget you might explore Alibaba offers of xgimi. You can get red lens model for 1100-1200 eur DDP shipped. At the expense of 1 year warranty and need for external streaming box.

Thanks! Seems like Valerion pro2 is the winner. Where do you get the native contrast for xgimi? I can see in their website it says 20000:1 which I guess it is dynamic contrast and same for the other two (peo and max). Max is out of my budget but if paying $500 more is going to give me a better picture than the valerion I can manage that. Also how hard it is to upgrade the Valerion instead of waiting for OTA and is there a known risk for manual update?

r/projectors · Laser projector headache vs Sony VPL

OK so since you asked. It's been about a day. The instant on and off is fantastic since it is laser. I do see speckle since I have an older Da-Lite screen. However, this projector is very very bright. I had to turn it down to about 4 out of 10 and it was much less visible. About RBE. Yes it is there. I thought it would be much worse. But it was OK. I notice it on whites since I guess all 3 colors need to be on. I watched some anime on netflix and oddly didn't notice it once. When gaming I noticed only briefly. But it wasn't all the time and it wasn't like I used to see on the old office dlp projectors. Like on those I would see a few inches of a full RGB rainbow. I only see it a tiny bit and it is a sliver. My setup kind of sucks for this since I had a long throw home theatre projector at 13 feet for 100". This needed to be at 10' for 100" with zero zoom. So keep stuff like that in mind. It has been only day 1 since I got it. I'm still not 100% convinced I want to keep it. I messaged projector screens dot com, they said they have a screen that would work great with this projector at about $1.2k for 120" ALR. I'm not sure I want to spend that in addition to the $2.2K I just paid so I can move this back 3 feet where it was. I do see the RBE, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. This projector can get very bright. My god it is like a LED TV in a dark room bright. I would even pay for an add on that had a better zoom. I'm still on the fence. But PS5 with 4K games looks incredible. As did Disney+ that was built in at 4K. Those CG Movies like Zootopia look really sharp. I'm sorry I don't have any final thoughts. But it is day one. But boy do colors pop and the brightness is very good and the contrast is good enough for me. Side Thought: There is a Hisense U8K around the same price as this projector for 100". I'm kind of debating just going with a large TV. But the thought of that thing tipping scares the hell out of me.

r/budgetprojectors · Epson 3800? C2 ultra? Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro? Help buying my first projector with a $2k budget.

The Epson 3800 only covers about 57% of 2020 color space; the Horizon 20 MAX (and assume other models) cover 97%. You are saying their tone mapping is terrible, because they have a lot more color to work with? If using MADVR - color fidelity argument should not matter, right? The Horizon 20 Pro and Base have less brightness in their "usable modes" than Epson 3800: Rtings rates the 20 MAX at 2687 lumens, Epson 3800 at 2334 lumens. Scale RTINGS figures to The Hook Up's measurements on all 3 - the Pro has 2034 Movie/ 2270 STD + boost; Base not worth mentioning. Horizon has other slightly better static contrast, and the aforementioned color advantage - but DLP and some dynamic contrast pulsing issues (post firmware update). Regardless - the Horizon 20 Max's Brightness figure of 5700 is measured at 5165 - but is green and unwatchable. It is the only model with brightness levels above the Epson 3800 in an actual "usable" mode. If anyone finds scaling based on RTINGSs figures (they didnt measure the Pro or Base; I didn't see the Hook Up measure Epson) - then the Hook Up measured Horizon 20 Pro at 2261 lumens Movie Mode; 2736 lumens on STD mode + boost; these are not calibrated but out of the box. I was about to buy a Horizon 20 because I had the same impressions about brightness, but figured I'd share my research for anyone else in the same boat.

The 5050UB is advertised at 2600 lumens, however to achieve its full color depth it uses a filter that drops the light output by around half.  If the 5040ub has the same color depth as the 50 (and therefore the filter) the base will be nearly 2x the lumens in Cinema HDR as the Epson in its HDR mode. Watch The Hook Up video; the difference in Cinema mode brightness between Pro and Base is only is 2-300 lumens... if you wanted more light, just hit the boost option. Unless the sharpness of the lens is significantly different, I see no reason to go with the Pro in a dark-room situation.

I was facing a similar decision and chose the M2 Pro. Its the newer device, lighter, more compact, has optical zoom, comes with a carrying case, and was €300 (than C2 non ultra) cheaper. It’s more than enough for me since I use it in a small bedroom that I can darken. The C2 (non Ultra) does have higher brightness, a rotating stand, and I prefer that the power adapter connects to the stand. But those advantages were not worth an extra €300 to me. Hello all, I've just acquired a Pro unit and in general I am impressed of the picture quality but something bothers me. I watch live tv using different cable and satellite receivers connected to the projector by premium hdmi cables, I also tested Apple TV conected by hdmi to the projector. While streaming applications or playing movies work rather fine from Apple, I noticed stuttering in live TV transmissions. You mentioned here that sports should be perfect to watch from this model of projector, but I noticed very disturbing stuttering with fast moving scenes especially in live sport transmissions, similar to frames dropping, no matter if output is set to 1080p or 2160p. A soccer game is very difficult to watch. I tried every possible configuration of image parameters but without succes. I also tried different hdmi cables, direct connections and so on. Stuttering seems to appear periodically, every few seconds, not continous, in my opinion. I don't think the unit is faulty because videoclips at 60Hz for example run flawlessly, but here television is at 50Hz. Could it be an issue with 50hz transmissions?

Because you said the space is open and used for other stuff, pick a laser projector with higher lumen output — the XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro (or Max if budget allows) will give you a brighter, lower-maintenance image that’s easier to live with in a non-dedicated theater. If you later build a blackout enclosure and want the “true cinema” look in absolute darkness, the Epson 3800 would be a fine alternative, but in an open basement the brightness and laser longevity of the Horizon line are very practical advantages.

For 50% of it's use this will be the audio source so if one is known to perform slightly better I am all ears. Also XGIMI has a EU sale for the old Ultra for 1.050€ so a fair bit cheaper, but it just seems like the extra you get for the 475 from Horizon Ultra to Horizon 20 Pro it's worth paying the extra.

    r/projectors · Best 4K projector under 3k?

First of all, I don't care about subtitles since I have ears, and second of all these projectors have prefectly fine native contrast ratio, even without the EBL. The Max has 5000:1 which is outstanding. The pro has less. This sudden subtitle hysteria is so overblown.
