r/projectors · Help Choosing a Portable Laser Projector: Nebula Cosmos 4K SE vs JMGO N1S Ultra vs Hisense C2 Ultra →2024-11-23T00:27:37

C2 ultra would be my recommended. It’s the best real (not kickstarter or super engineered samples for review) lifestyle out there. They also made this overhyped Kickstarter people keep talking about and will updating the c2 ultra via firmware to have the same dynamic black levels. So you pay retail price now for a real projector from a brand that doesn’t need to create a “sister brand” to distance themselves from whatever they won’t use the same name for, don’t have to wait and have no risk. Just my two cents

I got harassed on AVSF for days for saying that it’s “risky” to back the kickstarter and that the c2 ultra was a safe bet here on reddit. It’s not normal that reddit is the less toxic environment but it certainly is the case when it comes to certain brand discussions.

It’s a screen innovations screen. I replaced an older Epson 1080p projector. The difference between the C2 and the old projector is night and day. I cannot speak for newer 1080p projectors. The screen and Epson projector were in our house when we moved in. I recently purchased the C2 Ultra because I wanted to be able to use it with all the lights in my theater area on. I use it for watching sports, playing video games, and watching movies (including 3D Blu-ray) It’s fantastic for my setup.

    r/projectors · Hisense C1 vs Hisense C2 vs Epson 5050UB →2024-09-20T14:44:43

The 5050ub is as rock solid as a bulb based projector as you can get. It will have higher native contrast and positioning flexibility than either of those c2s. The c2 however is triple laser and will have a much wider color gamut and the new c2 ultra hitting the shelves later this year will have dynamic contrast over 2600:1. All 3 are solid options depending on installation needs, your thoughts on bulb vs laser and price points.

r/projectors · Help me decide my first projector: BenQ TK705STi vs. Epson Lifestudio Flex Plus EF-72 →2026-05-27T13:37:02

The BenQ is brighter and you get a bigger image much closer to the screen. Also it has better input lag for gaming. The Benq brightness is 3,000 lumens and the Epson is 1,000. Epson EF72 isn't a good 4k projector as it has poor sharpness. The youtuber The Hook Up who reviewd it said it's sharpness was worse than a 1080p projector. You should also look at the HiSense C2 Pro or Ultra if you want higher refresh rate for gaming. Also the Benq X3100i is good option for gaming.

r/projectors · At $2500, looking for the best 4K projector, narrowed it down to 4 options but still going in circles →2026-04-29T21:32:00

You’ve got a strong shortlist, and in a dedicated dark room for movies, the Epson 5050UB still stands out for its black levels and overall cinematic image, which is why it keeps coming up even over budget. The BenQ W4000i is probably the closest alternative if you want a more modern feel with good color accuracy, while the Hisense C2 Ultra and Nebula X1 lean more toward feature-heavy options but can be a bit less consistent. If you want something that just delivers a natural, film-like picture on a 120" screen, I’d lean 5050UB or W4000i. As a side note, the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is a nice example of a newer, easy-to-use projector with great out-of-box color, even if it’s not directly competing in this price range.

r/projectors · At $2500, looking for the best 4K projector, narrowed it down to 4 options but still going in circles →2026-04-29T16:47:38

Honestly, it depends on how much you value modern amenities. If you only want top-notch image quality, have your own dedicated streamer, don’t care about a built-in smart OS, and can deal with the size/age of the platform, the 5050UB is still a very solid purchase, especially if you can find a good refurb or used model. If you care more about modern features, the Hisense C2 Ultra definitely offers more for the money. It’s brighter, more compact, has a much more modern feature set, and is easier to live with, though I’d understand wanting to buy it from somewhere with an easy return/warranty process given the mixed QC reports. The Nebula X1 is also very good for image quality, but the main drawback, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, is the sluggish OS. It really is quite slow. The BenQ W4000i has good image accuracy, wide color, decent placement flexibility, and makes sense if you want a natural-looking image without going all-in on smart features. The one thing I’d double-check is throw distance: with a 120" screen, 14ft may be too far depending on whether that’s lens-to-screen distance and how fixed your placement is, so make sure that works for you.

The Hisense C2 Ultra uses DLP-Link glasses and does not support full SBS or full-packed 3D formats. That would be used with passive polarized glasses. It uses 3D ToF or Time of Flight to create depth as accurately as possible. The sensors are calibrated to show distance on the screen. You have to have active shutter 3D glasses to view 3D content.

Ok i just received the same mounting bracket you got. But in my case when I screw the 1/4” mount in all the way, the projector does not face the wall 90 degrees. Since there is no way to adjust the angle I need to turn the C2 Ultra back about 1/5 of a turn to face the wall directly but then it’s a little wiggly when touching it. Did you find a solution for that or do you think it’s fine this way not all the way screwed in?

You’re definitely looking in the right range already. The Epson 5050UB is still one of the safest picks for movie quality and black levels, while the Hisense C2 Ultra is more modern with great brightness, color, and gaming features. Since your room has some ambient light and you want mixed use, I’d also take a look at the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro because it balances movies, sports, and casual gaming really well with strong brightness and very easy setup. For a first projector, any of those would honestly be a huge upgrade over a TV experience at 120"+.

If you're leaning towards a 150" screen, the Hisense C2 Ultra is worth a look. Those triple lasers handle that size pretty well without breaking the bank.

  • Halimaa09
r/hometheater · Best Home Projector for a New Home theater in 2026 →2026-04-17T20:55:35

For a dedicated 120–150” home theater at around 10–12 feet viewing distance, you’re already in the range where image quality differences really come down to contrast, black levels, and lens quality rather than just brightness or specs on paper. That’s why models like the Epson LS12000 and JVC NZ500 are still considered the safest “endgame” choices if your priority is true cinema-like depth and you want to install once and not think about upgrades again. The newer triple-laser projectors like the Hisense C2 Ultra, XGIMI Horizon 20 Max, Valerion Pro 2, or JMGO’s upcoming N3 Ultimate are definitely closing the gap and offer a lot more convenience with smart features and easier setup, but they still don’t quite match JVC-level contrast in a fully dark room. Something like the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is a good example of this newer generation, very easy to place, strong brightness, and flexible enough for changing room plans, but more focused on convenience than absolute reference image quality. If I were you, I’d mainly decide based on whether you want “best possible cinematic image” (Epson/JVC) or “modern all-in-one ease of use” (triple laser options), and the biggest thing to lock in early to avoid headaches is your exact throw distance and screen size before choosing anything.

Even though the c3 is around the corner, the Hisense c2 ultra is neck and neck with the horizon 20 pro with similar specs. The horizon 20 pro is maybe a touch brighter but not significantly. The chip in the Hisense is a gen older but I wouldn’t translate that to outdated. Hisense feels more like an Apple product where everything just works.

Fair point I was also thinking about doing the same thing, but the cheapest C2 Ultra I could find was 1799€ (maybe I was looking at the wrong time). Either way the difference was 700€. I decided that I could almost buy a second one for the price I am saving. And the increase is actually not incremental. It's definitely not as huge as going from c1 to c2 ultra etc... But the new laser technology actually adds a decent amount at least what I did was watch a bunch of Chinese reviews (using AI to translate), and a lot of them compared those two. It's a good bit brighter it has newer laser has much better contrast, and less issues with speckles from what I seen. But in your place I would have bought the C2 ultra too. You made a great decision I hope you are happy with what you got. I got Google 4k streamer which is a bit more powerful and I can't compare it to their own output, maybe you just need to play with the settings a bit. I spent like good 8 hours playing with settings when I first got it until I got the picture I like ( compared it to the OLED Monitor, tried to get as close as I can), and I think I am 95% there. Also this is Risky, but at least with older models it's possible to flash English firmware to Vidda, but huge chance to brick it, and firmware is hard to get, so I would not consider this is an option. Either way. Hope you are happy with your purchase, if you have any tips or tricks please share.

Honestly I love it. Laser speckle is noticable (not distracting) in pure block colour or whites on full brightness (using the Pro), but has never drawn my focus, and is significantly reduced from the Hisense C2 Ultra I previously used. The Base shows slightly less speckle I would assume due to the brightness reduction. If you're doing daytime watching ALR is pretty unbeatable, but if you're doing something light-controlled I've heard good things about standard grey screens, especially Silver Ticket!

He did not calibrate them, he gave them forum suggested settings and turned their brightness up to 100% and said here we go. I don't understand how choosing a mode that says CINEMA matters. As an example all of the modes on my Hisense C2 Ultra including FILMMAKER are wildly off from calibrated. White balance isn't correct, color values aren't correct, and brightness / contrast at default also is not correct. The Warm1 mode is wildly off from 6500k cinematic white etc yet it is the default. I have to assume the same with these other units even though I don't use them, that you can in fact calibrate them. It doesn't even take long to dial in the major settings, although admittedly you'd never really get their lamp output exactly the same. He explains that people told him to do it a certain way so he did. That is not calibration. We seem to be viewing them how they come out of the box. I'm pretty new to projectors and until my **Datacolor Spyder X Elite SXE100** arrives next week I've only used free apps and test images / videos to dial it in. Even if he only did that at least they would get the same treatment.

Think about it logically Say it can produce a 120" screen from 8ft away without any digital zoom and maximum brightness If you move it to 14 feet and use digital zoom to have the 120" the projector is less bright and will have less contrast because the further away it is the further th laser needs to cast The c2 ultra is a short to mid range cast imo I've had the c2 ultra for just under a week now and blown away with it but just wanted to see if I should ceiling mount it much closer rather than have it wall mounted 14ft away and zoomed in

From the in game testing I performed the resolution clearly changed when I switched from 1080P to 1440P and the FPS count duely went down. What I couldn't verify was whether I was actually getting over 60 FPS (I completely forgot that the FPS overlay just shows the maximum the game is running at). I checked again and the Projector displayed it was running in 1080P at 240Hz. This stayed the same when I changed to 1440P in game using the custom resolution. This Projector clearly doesn't have a factory 1440P resolution option (as advertised) sadly. I'll keep trying and see if I can work it out. I might contact Hisense and ask them to confirm once any for all if the Projector is capable of (at least) 1440P at 120 FPS. Let me know how you get on with your testing either way.

The C2 Pro imo is actually better than the C2 Ultra. It's considerably cheaper and has better black levels (due to being less bright!). The C2 Ultra is only better if you plan on using it mostly during daylight and if you really want an integrated subwoofer. I would recommend an external sound system anyway, so the Subwoofer is kinda unnecessary. Also look into the Benq w2720i, it is much more color accurate than either of these Hisense projectors and it doesn't have Laser frackle, which is much more pleasant to the eyes.

Nope , i went with gp520 and its the best decision so far.  Painted a wall with lunar grey satin finish acrylic water based enamel with roller.  Google tv is inbuilt , color is good.  Game mode,  4k support and got a xgimi desktop stand pro to pair it up for angular adjustment.  Now coming to C2 ultra vidda os sucks , sooner or later u will attach a tv box with it. Which would need 2 additional cables , then if it's chromecast then a c hub with power deliver to connect storage. That's 2 more cable.  All in all it would be a awkward mess.  In my 520 there is only 1 power cable.  Xgimi stand helps a ton. Nothing needed.  Even if i connect my ps5  still not that much of a mess.  C2 ultra picture quality is good,  but it's gimbal is almost useless. Price is also absurd. And auto keystone and speckle issues are also there

Yeah, going from an Epson to this was night and day. It's not JUST for the clarity and contrast of 4K. For me, it's how vibrant and clear the colors are. It really makes all the difference.

I cannot speak to the comparison between the C1 and the C2. What I can say is the C2 Ultra is an amazing projector. It is great for movies, games, and everyday television viewing. I got it so I could have people over to watch football etc. and not have to turn the lights off. I can have all the lights on and still have a fantastic picture.

I was looking at the throw calculator on projector central and with my 135" screen I'd have to move my projector location a couple feet forward which is a bummer. At 100 inch it's saying between 6.5' to 10.9'. In your picture it sure seems like it's further back than that but pictures can be deceiving. How fat from your screen is it? I wonder if the calculator is wrong. Thank you.

Hi, after two firmware updates the wifi connection is improved, but not the ethernet (i suspect is a 100mbps one). No longer a problem for me since I have connected a Fire Stick, since Plex for Vidaa does not work. I have come to the conclusion that Vidaa sucks and I don't use it at all. It's a shame there's no Google TV on board, which on my old Xgimi never gave the slightest problem.

Hello everyone, I just received my C2 Ultra yesterday but immediately encountered a problem. The internet connection speed is very slow, about 50Mbps (I have tried both wifi and ethernet). I have 2.5Gbps fiber and my wireless devices score about 800Mbps connected to the same access point. If I connect a Firestick it runs smoothly, but with the projector apps nothing works (Plex starts playing the video and gets stuck after a few seconds). I connect the projector to a mesh network consisting of an Asus RT-AX88U Pro router and an Asus XT9 access point (wired), do you know of any incompatibilities with these devices? I can understand the problems with wifi, but with Ethernet cable there should be none.... By the way, I don't see that any firmware updates have been released yet (I have the European version, from Germany). I will try a hard reset later, but I wanted to ask for feedback on this from those who already own it. Thanks in advance.

The frame rate depends mainly on the game and the PS5 settings. I typically like the quality mode over the performance mode, so mine typically runs at 60fps. I understand that the PS5 mostly upscales games' resolution to 4K. My receiver has 4K passthrough, so it would depend on your receiver for what you get out of it regarding resolution. It does have two HDMI ports. One is eARC.

Wow! That is interesting. Depending on the medium, I sometimes see a small amount of light bleed around my screen, but nothing like what you see. Mine fixed the screen automatically when I set it up. The only thing I can come up with would be to redo your initial setup and/or move your projector closer to the screen.

I think the 3d is fantastic. It is active 3d so you would need active 3d dlp link glasses. I also use a 3d blu ray player.

Oh no, I thought this projector didn't have a rainbow effect. I was thinking of buying this or the c2 ultra but I'll have to see it in a store first to make sure (I'm sensitive to this effect) :(

Yeah and I was referring to the native contrast which the review indicated as a downside too. Imo still a great projector, if only they could've improved the native contrast to be better though.

The light bleed on the Hisense C2 Ultra is real but also kind of overstated. Mine has zero issues. The people who got bad units are louder online than the majority who didn't. Costco return policy basically eliminates the risk if you go that route.
