I did a review of the x500i here on Reddit. Prior to review I had heard some claim that LED projectors like the x500i couldn't have RBE because of the lack of a color wheel. Well that definitely wasn't my experience and I noted that in the review. However unless I'm specifically looking for it, it usually doesn't bother me. From what I've heard RBE can be significantly more noticeable on certain projectors. I just made a point in the review to point out that it's definitely there if you're sensitive to it. But for most it probably won't bother them too much.

They are both a "little" overkill for only 100". BenQ x500i or Viewsonic X1-4K will be fine.

It can happen - if its too loud return it for a new Unit. All Projectors make some noise. Fans,Pixelshifting ,Dynamic Iris etc.

Then get the X500i with a max. 120" Screen.

from someone who has tried both the x300g and thr x500i, I would definitely recommend the x500i. the x300g gets hot quickly, feels much dimmer than advertised, and has a lack of ports. Also the speakers were underwhelming, although still better than the x500i's speakers. but at least you can plug in a sound system to the x500i

People often say that laser or LED DLP projectors can't have RBE because they are flat out uninformed. It's that simple. Single chip DLP projectors have RBE due to the sequential presentation of colors. Red, green, then blue. So, they can have RBE whether LED, laser, or a traditional lamp. It doesn't matter. Only 3-chip DLP projectors won't have any RBE issues in the world of DLP. This is what movie theaters typically are using. Anyway, I would either get the X500i or the TK710. That's where my feelings lie with BenQ at the moment. I do think the X3100i should be a consideration, but not if you are fine with the x500i.

FWIW I don't think the rainbow effect on the X500i is any different than any other 0.65" DLP projector on the market, not sure why reviews would say that.

There are some laser models, but not much in the short throw department. LED models from BenQ are definitely worth some consideration though. The X500i is getting decent reviews for sure. There are a number of standard throw lifestyle models. No zoom. No lens shift, but they are doing well with the Hisense C1, and the N1 Ultra from JMGO. I like those models, but lean a bit more into the X31000i from BenQ and the HT4550i if I have to have a solid state light engine projector. The larger .67" DLP chip I think will be massive when it comes to higher reliability, but I can't swear by that yet. Still, I haven't heard the same issues that the .47" 4K chip seems to be having for a lot of people.

Let's say I'm ready to drill new holes, I'm not going to put the projector in the middle of the living room. 😅 The x500i is too short throw for me.

You just have to do better research and/or read more in this Subreddit... \^\_° 4LED (RGB+ LED) Projectors like the BenQ X500i or BenQ X3000/X3100 are preferable before Single Laser with Phosphorwheel like the TK710. As for the TK700. The brighter and more silent Acer Models like the H6805Bda is preferable. Danke schön :) Btw about the brightness discussion, BenQ recommends to get the brighter model in the conditions I'll have. [Why Does Brightness or Lumens Matter for Projectors? How Many Lumens Do You Need? | BenQ US](https://www.benq.com/en-us/knowledge-center/knowledge/projector-brightness-lumens.html#:~:text=If%20you%20plan%20to%20watch,more%20will%20display%20clear%20images.) I'm sure that I can make this work with the x500i, no doubt. However, my living room is bright. Especially during summer, living up north, there will be natural light spill until late. The other thing is that our living room is a big L shaped open space. While we can isolate the TV / gaming area of the living room (the short side of the L) from the other side with a blackout curtain, one of the things we enjoy is letting light enter the house and have the curtains open between the 2 sides so we all share the same space doing different things. I also like the idea of playing video game with natural light in the house, so that's kind of my decision process there. Maybe you're right and it's still overkill. What I'll do is buy one / try it out in these conditions, to see for myself. It is hard to know how this will go. BTW you also recommended in another post to get a TV ... I actually prefer a projector, because my plan is to bring it with me in vacation, or move it to other rooms from time to time.

Thanks for the reply :) Even with lights in the room or using HDR mode? I didn’t want to be fiddling all the time with shades because of less brightness, and I’m afraid that if I get the x500i I will regret not getting the x3100i.

Is noise a concern with the x500i? I heard it can be pretty noisy especially with XPR shifting.

Pixel shifting noise on the x500i seems really loud compared to others.

In Europe you can buy it "everywhere"!? Otherwise get the BenQ X500i which is slightly better (minus the minimal Lensshift) but also a little more expensive - at least here in Europe! X1-4K is 1300 Euro here and BenQ X500i is 1550 Euro. The Xgimi has only the older and smaller DLP Chip inside!

Yeah seen it quite an impressive review. The x500i looks like it has better contrast for some reason just curious if it’s due to the brightness levels. If you set the brightness abit lower still being decently bright how is it ?
