r/projectors · Thinking about the AWOL LTV-3500 Pro vs Epson LS800 for my living room—any thoughts? As an Epson owner I'm potentially biased, but the LTV 3500 is very bright and has absolute ass black level. For bright material it can look good but in dark scenes it's absolutely terrible and also quite expensive. The Epson isn't the greatest at black level but it's pretty decent on 70% power and with dynamic contrast on, it depends on the viewer and what they expect. If rainbow effect isn't a bugaboo for you personally, there's the Nexigo Aurora Pro MKII and the Hisense PX3-Pro which both beat the Epson and AWOL easily, though Epson has some specific advantages - first, the shortest throw on the market so easier to place, and it's 3LCD so it has zero rainbow effect.
r/projectors · Epson LS800 vs Hisense Px3 Pro The Fresnel alone will elevate your LS800 a bunch. Though with the Epson, 0.5 gain might be preferable like Epson's own screen, these have a lot of light capacity and need help dropping the black level instead. Still, the Fresnel will no doubt help just by focusing the light towards you. UST's without an ALR screen is kinda silly tbh. Too many people go that way, but an UST + ALR is really the combination that creates the "laser TV" they call them. Anyway, the PX3 Pro should outperform the Epson on everything except brightness; the Epson is very bright on max. Of course I don't run mine on max, I run it at 70% where the fan shuts up properly and that also helps with black level. 3000 lumens is still quite bright, and you can run the Hisense on max without it sounding like a vacuum cleaner. I'd honestly not worry about it, especially not with a fresnel ALR. You have to remake your entire setup due to the longer throw of the Hisense though. It has to come further out in the room, and lower down, to hit the same area you're now using as a screen, so that might be a pain in the ass. For me, I'd have to throw out everything I have furniture-wise under the projector and start over.
r/projectors · EPSON LS800 top left blur? Corner to corner uniformity on UST's will vary, some will be sharper than others. The LS800 is the shortest throw on the market, thus the most extreme projection angles, which can hurt it for things like this. If your focus dial doesn't do the trick and the projector is 100% straight and level and in the proper place then it may be you're stuck with a little blur.

Gain pretty much changes the light output linearly across the board. Your brightest scenes become a bit dimmar, but your darkest black becomes darker, and the LS800 can use the help on contrast. It has plenty of firepower, even on 70% power, to work just fine with 0.5, and Epson's own ALR is 0.5. I have that, and the projector looks pretty good with perfectly acceptable blacks and solid brightness on 70% (the fan shuts up a lot at that level, the fan is otherwise a concern.) 3000 lumens is more than plenty for 0.8 gain. Keep in mind ALR will waste vastly less light on spraying it around the room, it focuses it back towards the viewer. I'd be *shocked* if you didn't feel a 0.8 and the PX3-Pro gave you anything but jaw dropping image quality. So yeah, stay the hell away from white screens or uneven walls with UST projectors and buy an ALR. The 0.8 is a passable compromise for both units, but the Epson could benefit from lower. Both will look bloody fantastic either way, there's almost no such thing as a bad UST.
r/projectors · Help me to select between Epson LS800 and HiSense L9H for 120" Projection I enjoy my Epson, with Epson's own 0.5 gain screen. At 70% power on the laser, the fan shuts up and it's quite enjoyable, and it also helps the black level. The Hisense should give a larger color gamut than the Epson, since it's triple laser; triple laser does open up for the bugaboo of laser speckle though, and of course the LH9 is a DLP so if you're flicker sensitive, that can be an issue. But the image quality should overall be better if you can live with those potential issues. Both will give you great image quality, and an ALR screen will help them further with both brightness and black level and avoiding a lot of light spill on the walls. There's no way you can really lose here, both are soild choices.
r/projectors · Clearance find: Epson LS800 1. Yes. Placement has to be precise to the mililmeter. It has minimal height adjustment. Avoid the digital keystone *completely*, it worsens your image by wasting pixels. There's zero optical adjustment. This is true of all UST projectors. 3. HDMI 3 is accessed with a dedicated "game" button. This bypasses the Android OS entirely - the image settings in the Android section will carry over to the HDMI3 output, you can't adjust it there. 4. Not a great deal you can adjust, the fact that Epson took away the pro calibration options for this is some bullshit. Find the color mode you prefer. Also, I assume you don't have an ALR screen. You need to dig into the old wallet and buy one. An ALR for UST projectors has no downsides and will increase your image quality quite noticeably, and these units need all the help they can get with black level and contrast. Mine gives a great image with a low gain Epson ALR screen. I can't really overstate how much I believe that an UST projector setup is only complete with an ALR screen. Those start at $500-ish from companies like Wemax or Nothing Projector.
r/projectors · LS800 +120" Nothing Black ALR setup Congrats on the new projector. It's pretty decent and probably one of the easiest to install thanks to the super short throw. By the way, if you turn off some lights and then use the brightness control on your remote to step it down one notch at a time until you hit 70%, you'll notice that the fan noise basically disappears. You'll also get better black levels. Personally I rarely feel the need to run my machine on 100%. I was paranoid about mounting too low, so I mounted too high instead. But, easier to fix that; I 3D printed some leg risers for mine. Thus why I erred on the side of too tall.
r/projectors · Epson LS800 or Hisense PX3 or something else All those things (like no DV, no eARC) are borderline irrelevant. It handles HDR just fine, and eARC etc are only relevant if you use the projector as your source. In my opinion, nobody should do that. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel - it is literally only for sending audio "backwards" out of the projector to your AVR. Would they be nice to haves? Sure. Will your eyes bleed and your soul shriek watching "only" HDR? Uh no, not so much. Atmos works perfectly if you have an external source (like an Nvidia Shield, or in my case a HTPC) since the AVR that produces the sound takes care of that. The only thing the projector does is show the image. My LS800 is set to HDMI3, ie gaming mode. It bypasses all the Android crap in there (you still need the Android section to update its firmware and set the image settings, but that's just once in a blue moon). The real questions you need to ask are: - Placement. The LS800 has the shortest throw on the market and is thus easier to place with regards to the screen and wall than any other projector. - ALR - no matter what you buy, you need an ALR screen. Any UST without one is crippled. - Black level. The LS800 has lower native contrast but its dynamic mode works fairly well and I don't personally find black level to be problematic on Epson's own 0.5 gain screen. Some might. - Fan noise. The LS800 is loud on max - however, you can run it on 70% light instead which dramatically quiets the fan and helps with the aforementioned black level. - Color rendition. Triple lasers do have more saturated colors and cover more of the spectrum. However, again, that should be put in perspective - it's not like the LS800 lacks color. When viewed by itself mine produces a gorgeous image. - Rainbow effect. DLP projectors have some, it bothers some a lot, some not at all. The LS800 has none being triple lcd. Generally speaking, when it comes to the LS800, the reasons to buy it in general are: you want the shortest throw for easy placement and you want no specter of rainbow effect and you want the most lumens you can get for daylight viewing and you can't stand laser speckle (that you get to some level with triple lasers). Reasons to buy other projectors is a total focus on night-time movie viewing and black level is a big priority, rainbow effect doesn't bother you, and you think Dolby Video is crucial and you're willing to have a larger hassle with placement (a 0.25 throw projector like almost all the Chinese models has to come quite a bit longer out into the room and quite a bit lower to the ground than the Epson to project 120 inches). However, one fact about all the UST's in the $3 grand range and up is that they produce excellent images. The Epson included. The differences are relatively minor, and none are less than very good.
r/projectors · Epson LS650/LS800 - motion detection (safety kids) The slightest interruption of the light with a tiny object immediately blacks my LS800 out and makes a loud beeping noise. A problem might be if the kids shove the projector around, even moving it a centimeter will hopelessly skew the image so you have to spend time trying to find the right position again. But the laser safety interruption thing is very sensitive.
r/projectors · Starting to understand why people like UST projectors now The LS800 is extra finicky because it has by far the shortest throw on the market. This means that every move of it is extra amplified due to the acute angle the image is projected at. All UST's are finicky but this is the worst. But, worth it, for the ease of placement. I wouldn't necessarily recommend an LS800 even though I love mine, but that's mostly because the most recent crop of triple laser DLP's are just better when it comes to image quality. In some cases, dramatically better. But dramatically better than pretty damn spectacular is not perhaps the biggest deal, since you're already at pretty spectacular. Make sure to try lowering the laser power to 70% precisely, with the remote and the brightness control on that. As soon as you hit 70%, the fan shuts up.

Dialing the laser down to 70% exactly with the brightness control shuts the fan up nicely without too much loss of brightness. And the LS800 isn't even top notch anymore, the single laser doesn't reach the same color gamut as the triples. Then again - no laser speckle either and no rainbow effect.
r/projectors · Upgrading from Epson LS300 Most newer UST's have very good to outstanding gaming lag. The $2400 price point is a bit tricky, the LS800 might be reduced there now because it's older (and, well, it's not a bad projector at all, all modern UST's have good image quality). You should be able to find a Nexigo Aurora Pro MKII at under $3000 but perhaps not a lot under. The PX3 Pro perhaps also. In your shoes, I might sit tight with the LS300 until the third quarter and see if Nexigo does a Kickstarter for the MK3, or Hisense the PX4. The Aetherion Max would have been great but I think it's too late to get in on that Kickstarter.
r/projectors · Upgrading from Epson LS300 Epson LS800 owner here. I love mine. I'd still not buy it today compared to the current crop *unless* you know for a fact you're very rainbow effect sensitive, *or* if you know you really want the extra short ultra short throw it has. In my cases both were true, so there's that, but I might see myself rolling the dice on a modern DLP that has RBE mitigation. Unfortunately you missed the Aetherion Max kickstarter I believe, and there are also some great new options coming out shortly beyond that one - Nexigo Aurora Pro Mk III is expected, and the PX4 Pro is also on it way. Any of these would shit on the LS800 for absolute image quality, imo.

I literally just used the Android interface long enough to set up the screen settings and dial in the modes as best as one can (one inexplicable and cursed thing Epson did with these was to remove almost all calibration controls, which is somewhat infuriating since I have calibration hardware... but they can be made pretty good with what you have to work with.) Once I had dialed in the image settings, I hit the game mode button on the remote and switched to HDMI3 which bypasses all that Android stuff and I use my LS800 purely as a screen, no audio, no "smart" apps, that's all on the other side of the AV receiver.
r/projectors · Which Epson UST? It's also worth mentioning here that if you don't have an issue with the rainbow effect, there are several UST's now that beat all Epsons, including the LS800. The LS800 is great for no rainbow, and for the shortest throw on the market, but a Nexigo Aurora Pro MK II will beat it in just about every way otherwise, except pure firepower (and using 100% of hte firepower makes it *loud* so it's less than great for movie watching at over 70% brightness.)

The thing that makes UST's more resilient to daylight (not immune, just somewhat more resilient) is the UST specific ALR screen, and the fact that the UST is placed on a bench in front of the screen. If you ceiling mount, you lose that entirely and have to use a white screen, and at that point you're probably better off with a long throw. At least that will bounce the light more or less towards you instead of into the floor. UST's are zero compromise when it comes to placement. They *have to* be at the right distance both horizontally and vertically from the screen; the LS800 is the shortest throw on the market so it doesn't have to come quite as far away as others. The projector needs low gain to achieve good blacks. I honestly think that when The Hook Up (awesome though his comparos are) ran it on a Formovie Fresnel screen with 1.0 gain or some such it suffered for that. Anyway, the Nothing Projector is 0.6 so it should work very well. However, daytime viewing... bright rooms... there is *no* projector that performs in those circumstances. An ALR screen does permit viewing and gives you an enjoyable-ish image but it's a far cry from what it looks like in the dark. So if you're not willing to install black-out drapes, you're not going to be happy with any projector. Also, realistically the Epson needs to be run at about 70% laser power. At that point, the fan shuts up. Now, it has so much light that's more than fine but even so, you won't be firing 4000 lumens at the screen at all times. So I'd really advise against any projector if you're not going to light control. The blackest black your screen will ever be is the color of the screen in whatever light you're in. In a room with huge glass doors, that's going to be pretty darn pale. USt's are great. I love mine. But I do darken the room. And these days, if I were shopping, I'd probably buy a Nexigo Aurora Pro MK II instead, just to get more contrast.

r/projectors · Epson ls 800 eye strain I haven't really had any such issues with mine; I use Epson's own 0.5 gain ALR screen and have my unit dialed down to 70% laser/light power exactly which is where it turns the fan to a sane setting and it also helps black level. Haven't noticed any kind of flicker or similar I'd find to be straining. Usually LCD's tend to be more stable than DLP units due to the DLP rainbow effect that can't be a thing on triple LCD.
r/projectors · UST projector model and placement advice Your screen is completely unsuitable for an UST. White screens make some amount of sense in a dedicated theater with (literally) black or dark blue walls to minimize spill light but for an UST it's awful. The UST fires light at a very sharp angle almost straight up, and a huge amount of that will bounce off the screen and hit the ceiling. Then, the light will shine back down on the screen, and all this will ruin your contrast. Whatever you get, you need to factor in the cost of a proper ALR / CLR (ambient light rejecting) screen for UST's as well. The screen has (essentially) strips of thin-thin little mirrors on it that are angled so they pick up the light from below and throw it forward. This has many benefits in both a dark and light room. If you go to https://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm and look up the projectors you want you will get the information about their placement. With a 100 inch screen, the LS800 will come 35 centimeters away from the wall. The distance from the top of the projector to the screen is then 17 cm. The projector itself is 16 cm, so 17+16 = 33 cm. It would probably fit but the screen would be high. Your media furniture should really be replaced with something lower, but the Epson will just squeeze in. But again, you cannot (or at the very least, absolutely should not) use a matte white screen. Gain meaning whether or not it overall darkens or reflects the image, the Epson is hyper bright but needs help with black level so low gain is the way. Epson's own screen is 0.5.
r/projectors · Epson LS800 or Xgimi Aura 2 Always get ALR with UST's, period. It makes a major difference, both in curtailing spill light (light spilling from a white screen onto walls and ceiling falls back on the screen and makes your black light gray) Do also pay attention to the gain. Especially the LS800 needs low gain, Epson's own screen is 0.5. Low gain means the image loses a little light bounce - which has the beneficial effect of making black levels blacker. The bright peaks are also less bright, but with the LS800, lacking brightness is not a concern, it's brighter than almost any other UST. Even running it at 70% light to shut the fan up almost entirely it's plenty bright with 0.5 gain. The Aura with a 100 inch Formovie Fresnel screen would almost certainly give you a better image. The LS800 has a few party tricks, namely super high brightness at 4000+ lumens on max, and the shortest throw on the market. The Xgimi has almost half the lumens at 2300 but the overall image will almost certainly be even better (and I think my LS800 is fantastic; not flawless but really good). Also, the Xgimi is probably the second-shortest throw at 0.17-something. At 100 inches the Formovie Fresnel is almost certainly the screen you want. So in your shoes I'd probably go Xgimi and one of those. It's a newer design, and it's a DLP, and it has Dolby Vision.
r/projectors · Need Help UST Shopping The VAVA is a DLP projector so if that doesn't bother you with rainbow, the rest of them shouldn't either. Any of the ones you mention have their upsides. As an LS800 owner I can say that running it on 100% brightness is not that fun, the fan is loud. At 70% it's great, can barely hear it. This also increases black level which is an issue otherwise, it's not the most contrasty, but it is bright. Being a single laser it doesn't have any speckle, and 3LCD means it can't have rainbow, and it has a very fast gaming mode. But it's not the best tool for dark room movie viewing. I have no regrets, mine is great with a 0.5 gain CLR screen but I am aware I could have done even better. I do feed it from a HTPC with madVR filters that does image processing and handles the dynamic range processing now which has basically squeezed every bit of performance out of it I'd say. It does handle HDR, not Dolby Vision. No 3D, either. Anyway, for my part, I might roll the dice on the Aurora MK2 pre-order. The Aurora Pro is a top choice for dark room viewing already and the Mk 2 looks like it will just improve on that unless they really fucked up, which I doubt. My personal runner up would be the Hisense. It's regarded as the best choice by a fair few, I've never seen one in person though.
r/projectors · Help. Looking for a UST Projector that just does display There's no UST that doesn't have speakers and some kind of operating system, I'm afraid. The LS800 does have a game mode that bypasses everything and I use it as just a display that way. It's the easiest to place when it comes to the furniture etc, you get the closest to the wall and closest to the bottom of the screen, but I honestly don't think it's the best projector for all use cases. It's good if you are sensitive to rainbow effect and it's easiest to place as noted. The best for dark room viewing is probably the Nexigo Aurora Pro. The overall best seem to be the new PX3 Pro or the Formovie Theater Premium. There's a Nexigo Aurora Pro Mk 2 in pre-order, pay $50 and you can buy that for $1999... in, I believe, March. Either way, they can all be turned on to a HDMI port to display the image, you don't need to use the internal OS to view anything.
r/projectors · Epson LS800 occasional stutter, regardless of source I haven't seen any such stutters. Basically all my watching is off a relatively fast PC, HDMI to to a Marantz receiver, HDMI to the LS800. LS800 is in game mode (HDMI3, bypasses the Android crap in there).
r/projectors · Epson LS800 -> Nvidia Shield Pro 4K It has upsides and downsides. I'm super happy with the image quality with a 0.5 gain ALR screen, running it at 70% laser output and especially so now that my HTPC can play back files using madVR filters. Zero regrets buying it. Even got 5 year warranty. One thing I wish Epson hadn't done was simplify away the expert calibration options, absolutely inexplicable decision that they should be shamed for. It looks great in the right mode as is but even so. That said, if its unique advantages (high light output, zero rainbow effect even possible, and the shortest throw in the industry) aren't musts, there are other options that are very compelling. Like the Nexigo Aurora Pro for what is most likely the best black level performance of the UST's, still, and all the triple lasers have a wider color gamut. In a side by side shootout, the triple lasers will have more vivid colors, but it's not like I think mine lacks in that department. Downsides with the Chinese projectors is that they're Chinese, they all have longer throw (so they have to be mounted further from the wall and lower down), they're all DLP based so they have some level of rainbow effect, and triple lasers can give laser speckle. But either way, I'm very happy with the performance of mine.
r/projectors · UST vs Traditional Projector UST's are still, in my opinion, a very valid option. It just gets quite a bit more challenging at 150 inches, not least because of screen costs. Nothing wrong with a 98 inch TV and you do get deeper blacks, but the area difference between 98 and 120 is major, much larger than the numbers sort of implies. UST is fine, but perhaps not in the ceiling. If you can put it on a media bench it works fine with a little creativity to find a place for the center. The LS800 is the easiest one to do that with since you can put the center under it without that center being on the actual floor. Either way, enjoy whichever way you go, there's no wrong answer I guess, just get to pick which disadvantage/compromise you prefer.
r/projectors · Noticed my local shop richer sounds has a £600 price reduction to the epson ls800 b making it £2700 is it still better than px 2pro at £2 k ? First of all, all USTs should use ALR screens. Full stop. There's really no circumstance where you want to not use an ALR. There are some where you might be forced to not do so - like if you do something unorthodox, like mount them in the ceiling - but that compromises the max quality you can get a *lot*. As for the Epson - I enjoy mine a lot. The two main reasons I got it was the ultra short ultra short throw, at 0.16 throw. Makes it easier to install and place than any other projector on the market (can get closer to the wall and screen than any other). The other reason was that 3LCD literally can't get rainbow effect and my eyes are on the sensitive side. So I played it safe. Downsides being that it's pretty loud on 100% power; however, the salvation there is running it at 70% power where the fans become vastly more quiet. This also gets you better black levels and contrast, so a win win. But those, and the high high brightness that helps if you need to watch in the daytime, are really the only areas where it excels. The PX2 Pro has triple lasers, to begin with, which gives it a wider color gamut. It's not that the Epson lacks color... it just can't do color quite as well. Also, the PX2 Pro has Dolby Vision for HDR. However it does seem to have its own potential annoyances. There's also the new PX3-Pro coming out... probably can't get that as cheap. r/projectors · What do people think of the hisense px 2 pro. I was considering the epson ls800 b but some things like defaulting to andriod tv os deal braker for me. I want my projector to boot to avr? More in body details. I mean, the LS800 has some pros and some cons, but "I don't wanna push a button when it occasionally comes up in Android mode" (there's an actual dedicated button for the game mode/bypass on the remote) is a pretty minor reason to discard it. Mine remembers to come up in game mode most times I power it up but sure, not every time. But sure, the Hisense is a fine projector. There's a PX3 coming that's better (well, coming, it's out) and there are other candidates like the Nexigo Aurora Pro or even Formovie Theater that are solid also. These are all DLP projectors so they have some level of rainbow effect, but not a lot for the top choices. The Epson has the shortest throw on the market though, you can get it closer to the wall and closer to the bottom of the screen than the others (at 0.16 vs 0.23-25). No clue about that projector furniture but it does look pretty cool. I just mounted my Epson on a cheap IKEA media bench and bolted the screen to the wall.

The thing to watch for is gain, you don't want too much of that with the Epson. It's very bright but its black level and contrast isn't the hottest. Those 30 inches do cost a pretty penny.

But, your screen needs to be perfectly flat, which is rarely the case with most screens. A roll down screen comes in tab-tensioned, and non-tensioned flavors. Need to know what kind you actually have. A manual pull down screen is almost always non-tensioned. Motorized goes both ways.

It will help image quality a ton. If this is a long term setup, then still, just block light during the game. There are a number of reviews of AWOL projectors online, and the Atherion has been covered by a number of top shelf review sites, including The Hook Up on YouTube. Do NOT get the Epson. Motion handling is not nearly as good and sharpness will be a step down from the DLP options. If this is part of a long term setup, then you will want/need a UST/ALR screen to go with the projector. Include that in your budget. Frankly, this room sounds like it may be less than ideal for front projection, so you may want to just get a big TV instead. The 100" TVs are out there for under $2,000 and will look better than any projection setup you could hope to put together with the light in the room. I understand your wall may not support a 100" TV, but it's absolutely the best option for bright room viewing.

It may have been defective (laggy streaming despite everything I tried- although dont know for sure if it was actually the projector's fault)- I called Epson and they replaced it for free. In the end, decided to switch to px3 pro but epson's renewed program is good and the warranty can be trusted.

r/projectors · Ditching my tv for a 120'' projector I have an LS800 with 120" screen. Had it for a few years now. It's mostly great. Look into the inputs. There are 3 HDMI and only one is low latency (HDMI 3) which comes at the expense of Arc support, and you'll absolutely need to use that one for gaming. The other inputs have way too high of latency, I can't even play old NES without a big input delay. I now use an HDMI switch and running all my video through that and out to HDMI 3 on the LS800, with an HDFury Arcana to handle the audio. I will warn you that while 120" may seem huge it's absolutely not IMAX, and after you have it a while it won't seem nearly as big. If you have room and budget for 150", I would consider it. Enjoy, laser projectors and particularly USTs are awesome.

Luckily, I’m not playing any super competitive games apart from Rocket League occasionally. Most of my gaming is more on the cinematic side—Uncharted, GTA, RDR, etc. As for input lag: * Epson LS800: 18ms or less * Formovie Theater Premium: About 30ms, though they claim under 18ms with ALLM for 4K at 60Hz It would be nice to be able to play RL, but I'm not considering it a dealbreaker by any means.

The key selling points for me were the brightness, being able to watch any time of day and the throw distance which is super short. The input lag is decent at 18ms and I use it for gaming, movies, TV instead of a traditional TV. r/projectors · Could use a little nudge I'm not sure you can go wrong with either, both great projectors. The ls800 will do better in ambient light and the nexigo is probably better for dark room. LS800 has really great input lag for gaming. I might recommend taking a look at non image quality related factors and see if that swings things. For instance, the epson has a much shorter throw distance and vertical offset, which might be make or break for screen and furniture placement. Check out ports on each and make sure you'll have what you need. The LS800 doesn't have eARC which is a deal breaker for a lot of audio guys

r/projectors · Help for first projector purchase Casual viewing while the room is regularly lit is going to be a shortfall if you aren't running a screen or managing the wall colors. Out of those choices I would maybe choose the BenQTK710 (standard throw) or TK710STi (short throw). A couple that weren't listed that you could check out are the BenQ x3100i which is brighter than the TK710 but with better game optimization, and the viewsonic ls901-4k which would be a really bright option that is still good for gaming but would be sacrificing some color accuracy. An outlier option would be checking out UST like the Epson LS800 however that does go against your mounting plan. You may also want to look into ALR and CLR screens.

Epson took a week of messages to escalate to a team that told me this is a consumer device and I should not expect WiFi or ADB to maintain a stable connection. I expected more for this product and the lack of 4k plus this means I won’t be deploying any more of these.
r/projectors · Is ls800 still one of the best? I have been working on two of these for a client project and I would stay away from them. 1. My test content was 2k and now production is 4k and looks the same. This may prove above that it’s a 2k projector. 2. The latest android 14 introduces problems like WiFi dropping and there is no Ethernet. 3. In Home Assistant it works for a while, then the pairing drops. I’ve made the IP addresses fixed, turned on Developer mode in Android and also turned on USB Debugging. I can sometimes send via Chromecast but when that breaks it changes the display to the Android TV menu, which isn’t ideal for a Holodeck experience! I’m not happy with these, but doubt Epson will push anything that’s viable for firmware for a non-consumer environment. I’ll ask them and report if I get anything good out of them.

r/projectors · Starting to understand why people like UST projectors now I'm having and using the same projector since around three years. I wouldn't buy it again. Most of all because the OS is awful. It has a lot of problems and doesn't work well at all. Also doesn't support Netflix app for whatever reason. I also bought it because I didn't want to have the tv as a center of the room. Eventually I have the even bigger screen as the center of the room now since the projection sucks on the wall without a special screen. Yes. The picture looks good. And if everything works fine the projector has a good quality. Worth it. No. It makes also a lot of noise during summer times. What sideboard are you using to hide the Epson?

r/projectors · Epson LS800 Stuck on boot Just want to say the same thing has happened to mine. For the last few weeks its taken an age to switch off. Just get a black screen with the fans running for roughly 5 mins before it then turns off. Sometimes it was so long I just had to power it off at the socket. It was also taking a long time for any of the home screens to be ready and to load when booting up. Yesterday I powered it off, it didn't go off and did the fan running thing, powered it off at the socket, and now it won't boot up... Epson logo comes up. Android logo comes up. Black screen. I can hear the 'bumps' noise when moving around icons on the home screen, like it is there, but there's no visual output. Seems like whatever does the Android display output is corrupt or dead if its hardware. So annoying that they can't just give you a USB download to plug in and recover or reinstall the firmware. I gather it was trying to shut itself down gracefully but was struggling with something so taking forever. I've cut the power at some crucial stage and now it's corrupt. Awaiting the collection details for mine. It was a June 2023 model LS800W.

Yoy can wash then out with ambient light, especially if the content is dark. With the lights off the vividness is mesmerizing. Reviews put others ahead for dynamic range and contrast in low light environments, but if you are leaving the lights on they're just so much brighter than the rest of the cohort. The qs100 is even brighter, but also about 5 grand.

r/projectors · New 150" Wall - Projector recommendations ? Yeah the throw distance is my bugger, but I think I am closing in on the direction i need to go. The UST I can leave out, as described yesterday I found out that the UST needs quite some inches from the projector and up along the wall it projects onto, meaning the bottom line of the projected screen (thats with a 150") eg. with a Hisense L9Q its 19.45 inches and Epson LS800 is 16.1 inches - So with my wall being 92.2 Inches total in height, its not even possibe to procect a 150" screens size, even with the UST proectors standing on the floor! :) So I have left the UST projectors and currently looking and reading up on different models of ST/short throw projectors. Thats a great link you share there, and great work youve done! Will defintely have a deeper look into that also, thanks a lot!

Although when I look at the 'placement guides', I learn that Hisense LQ9 + a 150" Screen, would need a total wall height of 236.2 cm/92.99 inches - and my wall is 234 cm/92.2 inches. r/projectors · Which Epson UST? I took a look at that. The Epson is a little brighter and can save a few inches in the front. As for rainbow effect, it's questionable. With this BenQ projector, when I first bought it eight years ago, I used to notice the rainbow a lot. Maybe now that I'm well into my 40s, I don't see it as much anymore. So, I don't know if it's old age or the way the projector is configured. Before, it was much closer to the screen and actually provided its full brightness. Now it's twice as far and only projecting 720p. I know the modern USTs are a little better about rainbow, but these would also be much brighter and closer to the screen. I might need to walk into a showroom and see for myself. But it was one reason for putting the LS800 at the top.

I may go that route, but with any luck Epson lowers their price back down to $3000 USD around black Friday and lifts any restrictions for their resellers. If Dell drops their price accordingly, I can use the Dell credit on my Amex Platinum Business card to offset $1150 of the total cost. That effectively brings the price down to $2k if no one's thinking too hard about it. I can also bank quite a few Amex points through Rakuten if they up their earn rate to something like 15x or 16x.

I'm still kinda new to projectors but I did demo the AWOL once, the HDR support made a big difference to me. Epson looked brighter on paper but to my eyes the AWOL felt more cinematic, it's pretty sweet if you're watching movies in a darker room.

r/projectors · Epson LS800 Stuck on boot Here's an update: Last Wednesday 6 April, I received a notice from Purolator to pick something up at their depot. I was expecting something else, but it was the replacement LS800B (!). It was sent locally from Epson warehouse in Mississauga, ON, and I am supposed to send my defective unit back in the same box, after attaching the return label I received via email, which I promptly did. Let me expand my missive about the defective LS800B. I can say that in the period between when I bought it and last week when I sent it back (January 2023 until April 2025), it received about 3 firmware updates, which all concluded successfully. It nonetheless misbehaved in various ways a few times: once the image occupied just a fourth of the screen upper left. Another time, the picture got cut left and right (like when watching a pillarboxed 4:3 blu-ray). These issues would be resolved by powering it off, unplugging from AC mains, and plugging in again and powering on. It was also inexorably slow to respond to remote control button presses in the moments after powering on, even to watch non-online content (like blu-ray through the HDMI/arc input). The last non-resolvable straw is what I am here on this thread about. When I filled up details on Epson O Canada technical support site, I was dreading having to face agents who are/were typically combative and dismissive like what others on this thread have talked about. The 2-year warranty on the wretched LS800B has expired last February, and I was expecting something like a huge repair bill if ever. But, though the agents I talked to sounded indifferent and bored (they were on the west coast PT, so I had to note that as I am on ET), my interaction was pretty straightforward, and I was told that the lapsed warranty will nonetheless be "honored" in a one-time deal (whatever that meant), and to wait for the replacement unit. Ok so here are my observations with the replacement unit. It is clearly a refurbished one as stated on box, and also evident by the dust bunnies on the ventilation vents underneath; clearly it was formerly also someone else's beloved. It looks good, clean, scratch free, new-looking, powers on and loads android TV much more quickly now, and it responds to remote control button presses instantly. It has a manufacturing date of 2024, where the former defective LS800B was 2022. I know how I setup the old LS800B and how its picture looked like; this unit sent to me seemed to have loads of and better contrast by comparison. Its laser light counter was duly reset and starts at 0h. Also, if not unplugged, every time it is turned on android TV quickly loads. The Epson logo only appears when it was powered down and unplugged; the defective LS800B always showed the Epson logo on power-on, regardless. My conclusion in all of this is, the LS800B has matured a bit, and whoever wrote its firmware has learned a few tricks and workarounds and applied them, and the fact that they overlooked my lapsed warranty is a sign Epson is quietly acknowledging whatever gremlins lurked there before. Epson is the only 3-chip consumer projector maker that caters to people like you and me, outside of Sony and JVC. Panasonic used to make and sell 3-LCD (I last owned a PT-AE100) but has dropped the ball 10years ago and joined the single-DLP crowd. I can never ever be part of the latter because I have close to zero retina persistence and can't tolerate any form of sequential color RBE artifact, which is always present no matter how fast the "triple laser" flashes one after the other. That and this experience has assured me I will still get Epson next time. I just hope they finally manage to make a true native 4k LCD imager.
r/projectors · Epson LS800 Stuck on boot Today 31 July, 2025, I called epson support to get an update. 2 or 3 days ago they said they will pass my issue to technical support and "get back to me within the hour..." Well they didn't so I called again today. Nothing about the actual issue was discussed in this interaction; the agent simply told me, despite that the standard epson warranty has expired last February of this year, they will "overlook" that and send or exchange it for another unit. I only have to reply back to the support email thread and attach proof of purchase, plus a picture of the projector underside clearly showing the label with the serial number. I have done so, my fingers are crossed, and I will update here. On a side note, someone I know just bought an LS650. It's smaller in size, with a slightly lower maximum brightness (3600lumens) compared with the LS800 (4000), otherwise performance is identical with the latter. I feel, setting it up, that some of the gremlins of the LS800 may have been solved here. One, it has eARC where LS800 only had ARC. It's responses to remote button presses are nimble and nearly instant, which half the time I can't say for the LS800. I still want to ask whoever designed these projectors why they omitted wired ethernet, which I would have preferred over wi-fi.

There were some similar complaints from other people. Otherwise - it’s really good, but if it breaks again after the next repair, I will consider something else.

r/projectors · Epson LS800 audio lagging video Yes, annoying, but fortunately there is a workaround with the HDMI 3 input. I use the Vertex 2 because of LLDV (Low Latency Dolby Vision) from the AppleTV. The Vertex 2 has many useful features, e.g. automatic switching to the active HDMI input, min/max HDR luminance settings and HDMI audio extraction, but it is absolutely not necessary. Any cheaper quality HDMI 2.0/2.1 switch should be able to do the job.
r/projectors · Epson LS800 audio lagging video My LS800 also has problems with HDMI In 1 + 2 connections. However, no audio delays but some weird video stuttering at certain time intervals (approximately each 20-30 minutes while watching movies) with an connected AppleTV 4K Gen3 and Nvidia Shield TV Pro. Changing the HDMI cables, various LS800 picture settings, direct ethernet connection etc. did not help. These bugs may be related to the underlying Epson Android OS... But i was able to solve this problem with only using the LS800 HDMI In 3 port and bypassing the Android OS, just like you. I am currently using an HDMI splitter (HDFury Vertex 2) with my AppleTV 4K + Shield + PS5 connected to the LS800 HDMI In 3 and HDMI Audio Out from the Vertex 2 to my AVR.

This seems to have solved our random video stuttering issues. We’ve watched several movies now with no issues. We are planning to contact Epson and let them know. Maybe it’s something that could be fixed with firmware.

We have troubleshot multiple setting between the projector, Blu-ray player, and receiver. Nothing seems to help. We have even replaced the HDMI cables with brand new 2.1s. The stutter seems random, with no predictable cause. Epson support says they have never encountered this problem before. Seems like the video just drops frames or has processing lag for a short time.

r/projectors · LS800 +120" Nothing Black ALR setup I learned very quickly to always lock in the brightness one click below where the 3rd fan speed kicks in. I bet 99% of LS800s are set up the same way. It also qualitatively doesn't feel like the brightness control does a lot e.g. 100% doesn't feel anywhere close to twice as bright as 50%, so it doesn't feel like you're giving up much keeping it at "70%". In hindsight, as you say, cheating too high with screen mounting is the way. I even had this in mind when I mounted it, but I used the projection on the wall to decide where to align the top of the screen since that is closer to where the first holes need to be drilled, and that was a big mistake. The image top was so distorted by wall waviness I had like a 3 inch range for the "top" of the image to play with and guessed wrongly which part of image to use. The manual says the bottom of the screen should be 7.5" above the top of the projector and sure enough, when I checked after hanging the screen, the bottom of the screen is 6" above the projector. If anyone else is doing this, either use the bottom of the image on the wall as your baseline since it will be flat and horizontal, or just use the 7.5" from the manual, or 8.5" to be safe, since you can raise the projector a bit with the adjustments or wedge stuff under the feet to go higher.

I recently came across another subreddit on Costco Mexico selling PX3 PRO + 110" ALR for $2300. The OP actually bought it for $1700 few weeks ago when they had a spl promo.

Then I had a Px2 Pro loaner for about 2 weeks. I liked the Px2 Pro much more than the Epson. Epson didn't feel like a major upgrade from my current FHD PJ. Now this Epson was a unit someone was selling, and at a fairly low price. So it could have been a bad unit as well. I really want to go for the PX3 PRO but it's not available yet where I live. It's expected Mid 2025 as per Hisense brand showroom rep. That too in Non 3D config. So I am guessing it's not worth the wait. I might go ahead with a Px2 pro as PX3 (Non PRO) currently available is 30% more than PX2 P ( $1630 vs $2280)

I auditioned the projector at seller's apartment over the weekend. The included screen, which is one of the key reasons to go with the deal was an instant disappointment both in terms of size and quality. It was a non-branded ALR he ordered off Aliexpress. Though it had a wide black velvet border and looked premium, I found the picture too grainy and the colors and contrast didn't punch out as expected, despite the completely dark theater room. Also, the shadow around the screen was a good 8 inches wide. It could be bad calibration or just a bad combo, but I was underwhelmed with the image quality. I tested the Hisense PX3, PX2 pro, L9G at the showroom with fair bit of ambient light but colors and contrast looked much better. But the throw ratio, that was insane. It sits almost kissing the wall. Hisense or Samsung and most others would sit almost in the middle of the passage between by bed and the wall. So geometrically, the LS800 makes perfect sense. I am still split and unable to come to a decision. The throw distance and FOMO is inclining me to take the deal. But I don't feel convinced with what I saw.

So I guess this is me saying thank you now lol I did have a couple other questions though. I know nothing beats direct display. I’ve got a pretty crazy Home Theater. This is the living room. I just expected more from EPSON, considering the projectors I’ve had from them in the past. Definitely didn’t don’t expect much from the swimming pool Projector. I just wanted laser for brightness and not messing with a bulb. Thanks for the Settings. It will be a much better image any time of the day or night, and once you factor in the cost of a decent ALR screen to accompany the LS800, you are well within the price range of the 98UX, if not over it.

r/projectors · Advice for 150” screen to pair with Epson LS800 UST projector The Epson LS800 UST is the UST laser projector, and I don't think using a normal alr/clr brings out the best in its color contrast. It is recommended that you try the UST ALR anti-light screen. It is perfect for rooms with Windows and can maintain good color contrast during the day. But the largest UST ALR screen that I know of is the frame screen of the Fresnel UST ALR, which I saw on [vividstormscreen.com](http://vividstormscreen.com) But since I don't have a wall in my house to fit a 150-inch frame screen, I chose vividstorm UST ALR electric floor screen that can accommodate it. I hope you find this information helpful.

r/projectors · Are certified ReNew Epsilon ls800 projectors worth it? I bought ReNew LS800 from Epson, and honestly, it wasn’t worth it for me. The unit arrived with multiple defects: static from the speakers, the projector shutting down with a flashing orange light when changing the volume, and visible spots in the bottom-right of the image. The return process has been a nightmare—Epson confirmed the defects but I’m still waiting on a refund weeks later, with FedEx tracking showing no movement. If you go this route, just be prepared for potential issues and stay on top of customer service. That $600 savings might not be worth the hassle. I'm currently out a projector and without $2500.. Epson Store is 100% not customer oriented and this is evident.

These are two models we do not have in Europe. We jump from the EH-TW7100 (1400 eur) to the EH-TW9400 (2800 eur), both of which however are lamp based (there are more lamp based models below them). The LS800 is about the same price as the EH-TW9400 (2900 eur), which makes it the cheapest laser. Then we do have the EH-LS11000 and 12000; the 12000 is nearly triple price of the EH-TW7100 (4300 eur). (prices taken from a price-comparison website in Germany and rounded, they are not exact but indicative enough) Pricewise, the 11000 seems to have lowered recently and it comes in at 3500 eur, but many places have problem with availability. I was hoping to find something in the EH-TW7100 price range, but was aware I may have to and was willing to stretch it, but this is getting quite a stretch... :-)

r/projectors · replacing a projector: screen question and other options Best would be to order the Viewsonic online to "test" it and return it when DLP is not working out for you. At some Point Epson HAS to release new Models to replace f.e. the TW7100 from 2019! Besides the Fact that you´ll need a UST Screen with the LS800 i would not buy it because its not a True 4K Model! The only True 4K Epson Models at the Moment are the LS11000 & LS12000 !

r/projectors · Are certified ReNew Epsilon ls800 projectors worth it? My original pref/plan was Sony4K native one with B&W 603 S3 set.. about 15K, my media room is 12X15 and can only project on 15 side which would require some dry wall work and re-organizing the 7.1 pre-wiring from builder.. And I realized that expense of 16K is not going get me Cinemark type experience so i decided to do simple set up like UST and Nakamichi shockwave or dragon (plug and play, no drilling walls) .. chose ls800 as it can project upto 150 inc vs ls650 that is upto 120 inch .. Feel free to share thoughts/blind spots i might have. Thank You..
