Xenris001r/projectors · First time buyer; jump from $5k budget to $12k range? →2024-11-10
I am in just about the exact same boat. I have recently done a LOT of research and I think an important point to take away is that ignorance is bliss. Depending upon your budget, you will love the projector you get for that general price range. That said, I want the best at a reasonable value and with tech that is recent/newer that is going to last. That said, it appears the general consensus is that while Epson is good, JVC is generally the best as it pertains to picture quality. It’s HDR tone mapping and frame sharpness and smoothness tends to be in the lead. Further, the newer NZ500 and 700 series (which is being released this month) is class leading in almost all categories. I originally ordered an Epson LS12000 and will be returning it for an NZ700. But keep in mind the LS12000 is a $4-5k projector while the nz700 is a 9k projector (USD). But based off initial specs and reviews the nz500 would also be a better buy than the LS12000. NZ500 being at rough $5-6k range. I can go into SO much more detail as to all the reasons why JVC over everything else but also google searches will do the same.

NetworkingJesusr/projectors · 4k-capable laser projectors with low input lag and no/limited pixel shift noise →2023-05-23
Epson LS12000 fits all that criteria, including budget. I've had mine for a few months now, using it for movies/tv/games with HTPC and absolutely love it. I haven't heard any sort of noise from it at all unless I crank the light output to 100% and the fan kicks on. Haven't heard any noises other than the fan and even that is pretty quiet and I basically never run it at 100% because 75% and even 50% is already brighter than my old JVC RS15 was with a fresh lamp.

Epson projectors (5050, 6050, LS12000) already have very colorful images… what drove you to set it to 75 saturation?! That must look like an LSD trip or something? 😅 I have this projector. I also use it in a non blacked out, non light controlled living room. I use mine in cinema mode (natural for gaming) at 75% laser power, saturation at 50 (default)… and the colors are already very vivid and pop. I agree the image at night with the lights off is absolutely jaw dropping (you can see my post history for some pictures). But… seriously… saturation at 75? Jesus Christ! 😂

I just ordered a refurbished Epson LS12000 for $4,000. I’ve been wanting to upgrade for several years. I was also tempted by the Valerion, but I needed a longer throw and they aren’t selling the aftermarket lens needed for that yet. I had such a hard time deciding, probably why it took me years to actually do. For what I need, the LS12000 won out. ….but I don’t have it yet, so I can’t really say if it was the right call. Fingers crossed! Good luck with your decision.

Few_Calligrapher2662r/projectors · Advice on buying a projector →2025-11-30
None of those projectors have native 4k resolution The cheapest projector which is a very good option that is native 4k is the Sony VPL-HW 5000ES. I would not recommend it right now due to panel degradation and manual controls at that expensive price point. For a $3,000 price point, don't buy projectors like the Hisense or short throws that have no lens shift. Keystone is BAD IF and only IF your ceilings are at a good height where this projector won't hang too low, then go for the XGIMI Horizon 20 MAX. Also if you plan to place it on a table/not mount it this is a good option. If you don't want that, the number 1 projector I am recommending due to the deal right now is the Epson LS11000. I can't justify why the LS12000 (Slightly upgraded model), is so expensive. Nevertheless, the LS11000 is a great projector with lots of flexibility and at a decently decreased price point NEVER utter the words Optoma lol The newer version of the HT4550i is the W4100i. I like Benq for Home theater, but the fan noise is quite high. I would NOT spend $3000 on the W4100i, instead a GREAT option would be to buy the $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay. This is the best bang-for-your-buck option and is amazing Again, projector lens shift is SO useful, so the only Valerion I would consider would be the MAX 99.99999999% of home theater projectors can project 120 inches +, that is not a good question. The other percent is a cardboard toy. Even the cheapest projectors can probably do 150 if all lights are off I don't like ultra short throw, my opinion is that you will regret if you buy it. Many things need to be perfect for it to work out well. $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay would be the best option as it has 3d support and is very affordable so you can put budget elsewhere If your space permits, then you could go for the XGIMI, but I wouldn't because for half the price I can get a projector that's as good or better refurbished. Consider the Benq W2720i also but I wouldn't go with it

Good to see your enjoying the PJ. 👌🏻 I too have an LS12000 (after a JVC). The one issue I had to resolve was the cyan push on HDRand LLDV converted contents An HD FURY VRRoom sorted that. Together with using movies settings and using SDR mode. The best thing I did was getting a Ugoos AM6b+ with CoreELEC. Using the V10 engine to down convert Dolby vision FEL files. This really shows off the Epson capabilities. Worth considering …..

Legitduckr/hometheater · $10k budget for audio… $10k for video →2024-12-10
Here is my 2 cents after doing a crazy amount of research for my own home theater experience. I have a similar budget for audio. Video: If you can fit in a 120-150 inch screen then I would recommend getting an LS12000 ($5k) and a screen ($250 - $1k). If you can't then do what I am doing and that is getting the best OLED on the market, an 83" LG G4 ($5k). Projector/Screen: LS1200 OLED: LG G4 Audio: All of the below suggestions will blow your socks off even if you picked them at random so then it just comes down to individual preference of aesthetics, individual research of their sound, availability etc... As you are in an apartment I am going to assume you are only looking at bookshelf speakers. Additionally, I won't go over center speakers (just match with whatever L/R you get) and surrounds because those are a lot less important. Front speakers: Acoustic Acoustics 2EX V2 Pair ($1.7k) *Very high quality and very high value Philharmonic BMR Monitors ($2k) *Very high quality and very high value Arendal 1528 bookshelf speakers ($5k) Perlisten R4b ($5k) Martin Logan Motion XT100 ($1.7k) Q Acoustics Concept 300 ($5k) Buchardt S400 MKII ($2.4k) MonAcoustic Platimon ($6k) Revel Performa M126BE ($4k) Kef R3 Meta ($2.2k) Sonus Faber Concertino ($5k) Genelec 8361A ($5k) *I'm sure they sound great but god they are ugly to me so I would not buy them. Subwoofers: All of these are amazing subwoofers. I like the arendals aesthetic the most. Rhythmik PSA HSU Arendal JTR

So, the BenQ X3000i is THE model I would get if I could get placement right and was keeping things on the 'cheaper' side of things. But, if I was having issues with the noise from XPR, then I might try to go to the Sony XW5000. That is a native 4K projector. It has sub-30ms input lag, and a laser light source with extremely low measured noise levels. It's not flawless, as there may need to be some image adjustments over time, but in my experience, Sony delivers a VERY good image that is a clear step up over the DLP competitors, though it might be pretty close to what the Epson puts out in their LS12000. https://www.projectorcentral.com/Sony-VPL-XW5000ES-Laser-Projector-Review.htm I would either get the Epson LS12000 or the Sony, and my leanings would be towards the native 4K and no XPR technology required, which native 4K delivers from that product.

billqsr/projectors · Epson LS12000 vs Valerion VisonMaster Max →2025-12-31
Those are both excellent projectors. Valerion is a new startup and has had hiccups as it is gotten up to scale particularly getting the MAX out to people. They had quite the backlog, but it may be sorted by now. The RBE reduction feature has been reported to work extremely well, but introduces a high pitched whine. Also, it's hard to dial in correct colors since there is a cooling problem in the Max that causes laser throttling. Finally, you have to be careful what screen to get as the three laser design can cause "speckle" where you see splotches of color on screen that kind of look like film grain. The Valerion supports 3D, and also has Dynamic Tone Mapping which helps get the most out of HDR, as well as Dolbyvision. It's also a light cannon which allows for larger screens. On the whole it is a good product but has growing pains. The Epson LS12000 has been a huge hit since it was released at an excellent price point. There's no RBE because of the 3 chip design and it has a lot of happy users. It has one feature that makes a big deal in my opinion and that is Full Fade to Black. There is just something impactful when a scene ends completely dark, instead of gray. The LS12000 doesn't have true Dynamic Tone Mapping for HDR but a lot of owners feel like it handles HDR well, nonetheless. There are other issues with it, too, but not the kind of growing pain issues that the Valerion has. However, if you want 3D support, Epson no longer supports it. Also, Epson is one of "the big three" in the home projector space (Epson, JVC, Sony) and the LS12000 is a mature product so you can be sure of what to expect. TL/DR: I think the LS12000 is ready to go, whereas it might take some work to get the Max to work well. I would talk to u/ProjectionHead about what you want to accomplish and he could help you decide.

blacks are mediocre at best on the projector compared to an oled but the size is so good I am willing to trade. I ran a madvr setup for awhile which made it better but wasn't worth the effort to me or more the the point my wife wasn't able to use it well. sound no, I don't ever hear the fan heat yes, my room is in the basement and has no vents or airflow. In the summer its a little warm at the end of a movie, need to install a fan. In the winter its still cold as hell in there so not an issue.

So depending if you watch in a completely dark room or a well lit room - those require different setting imo. In a bright room, I value brighter colors at the expense of black floor level. In a dark room I value deep inky blacks- that’s just me. So in the dark I use dynamic but I drop the gamma down to -2 and laser to maybe 80 I don’t remember all my settings. But in a bright room I push gamma up to +2 plus 100% brightness and some other settings based on preference. Hope that helps :)

Epson will be better for a home theatre if you’re focused towards that. Have you considered pledging for Xgimi Titan Noir kickstarter? I think it will be better than the n3 and cheaper than ls12000 but you would lose on 4k120.

There are many good options and you’ll get a lot of suggestions in this thread. “Best” is subjective; the Epson LS12000 that several mentioned as an example won’t have any rainbow effect or laser speckle but may not have as good contrast as other options or as wide of a color gamut. After you read through all the responses, feel free to DM me to get into details about which ones most pique your interest.

happygolucky1987r/projectors · Buying advice for Epson LS 12000 →2025-06-16
I am very satisfied with this projector. We have a dark room and don’t find the need to go over 75% brightness at which the projector is not very loud. As you raise brightness it does become louder but will the noise gets drowned out by the movie / TV audio. TLDR, no concerns about loudness. We have a 120” screen and it works fine. We needed a long throw and this fit the dimensions for our theater room. I would recommend using a throw calculator to precisely measure the throw distances needed for your particular room dimensions.
