ProjectionHeadr/projectors · JVC NZ500 bright enough for 160" scope screen? →2026-05-10
That’s a solid option for your size. I’d agree regarding the JVC nz500 not being bright enough. Happy to get into details about the options and offer a special Reddit deal if interested; DM me.

Materidanr/projectors · JVC NZ500 bright enough for 160" scope screen? →2026-05-10
The problem is without an anamorphic lens you lose brightness because you’re cropping off so much of the actual chip - 20% basically, assuming you at least use the full 17x9 width. If you only use 16x9, you’re up to 29% unused, which is a huge reduction in potential brightness vs using the lens. Your 160” scope screen is the equivalent of a 169” 16x9 screen, which is probably outside good HDR brightness. With that said I have a 147” 17x9 AT screen with a RS1200/NZ509 and feel it’s just fine. I’m also pretty happy with the 17x9 aspect ratio; it somehow feels wider than it is.

SDR would be adequate, but you’ll want a lens and processor combo to get the most out of HDR. Great thing is you can build the system over time to maximize performance. Start with projector and screen…add lens…add MadVR

Been having my JVC NZ500 and first thing I said when turning it on and testing out a movie is holy mother of god it looks like I am at a actual movie theater. I could not believe it.

Yeah, they’re good enough that in a light controlled room you don’t actually need a grey screen with it. Great projector! Obviously :)

AV_Integratedr/projectors · JVC NZ500 Laser D-ILA Native 4K Projector Review (Same as RS1200) @ ProjectorScreen.com →2024-12-05
I wish JVC would price this at $5K instead of $6K. I know they make a superior product overall, but I can't imagine how many sales they are losing out on to Epson. I mean, someone being told the Epson LS12000 is a serious improvement over the LS11000 may be able to justify that added $1,000 in cost, but to have to jump 50% more to the JVC is a really tough sell. Even if it is worth it. Beyond that, I tend to have no complaints at all about JVC. Mine has been great for years and I have a number of clients who have had great results with their JVCs over the years as well. The black level performance is what is what is spectacular.

I keep my laser at 74 for HDR content and I’m pretty happy with it. They could be a touch quieter in very quiet scenes though. As you say, so in love with everything else that I don’t even care.

cr0ftr/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000 →2025-06-03
You can easily get into the NZ range for JVC for 8 grand. NZ500 is something like 6 grand and the NZ700 with its 80000:1 contrast claim is $9-something.

No. Not even close. Go Epson h 3800 or qb1000
