r/projectors · Epson QB1000 Review: The replacement for the Epson LS12000

So we have this unit in our showroom and I just can’t get over how unsharp the image from this unit looks. Not even in comparison to a JVC NZ500, but even to a BenQ W2720i and Epson LS11000. Epson is considering this to be working as intended but it’s just not looking good. Thought it was a faulty unit at first, but tried another one from a later manufacturing date and it had the same sharpness issue. I just can’t recommend it over the other models in that price range. In the EU, this model is around €5000 btw

    r/projectors · I've just ordered a BenQ W2720i...

Really interested in your feedback on this one. Looks to be one of the only home theater models at its price point. Am a little concerned about BenQ returning to the .47”… the .65” did a lot to improve contrast. Hopefully this isn’t a step back. The German site mentioned 1000:1 native which isn’t great… I’m getting over 1800:1 from the HT2060 and the HT4540i (w4000i) I measured around 1300:1 depending on the picture mode.

r/projectors · Upgrading from BenQ HT2050A after 4,000 hours — Need advice on next projector

For 100” screen you don’t need a lot of lumens. I’ve also reviewed the W2720i and it’s still hanging in my theater. I would say it’s 3/4 of a W4100i. So a little less lumen output (though it will still muscle a 100” screen), a little less contrast, a little less color gamut. Though it’s actually sharper than the W4100i by a hair. It’s effectively the replacement for the HT3560– but being 4LED it’s a lot brighter and more colorful than that model. It would be a definite upgrade from the HT2050A. Also, I see you’re worried about fan noise— the 2720i is very quiet. If you want to save even more I would also recommend looking at the X500i as it is essentially the 4K version of the HT2060 which replaced the 2050A. Don’t let the ‘gamer’ moniker fool you it’s a fine cinema projector. It has really good contrast but is a bit dimmer than the 2720i. Still, will be more than sufficient for a 100” screen. Negatives is it’s short throw only and no lens shift which is a bummer. The chassis is also a little louder than the 2720i especially on high lamp mode.

    r/projectors · <2000€ 4k/1080p Projector for non-optimal Home Cinema

It kills me BenQ never released a standard throw version of the x500i. That model has better contrast/blacks than the vast majority of DLPs outside some of the new triple laser USTs (for whatever reason USTs perform well above their more conventional siblings in this area). I feel your pain. Am anxiously awaiting the W2720i to see what BenQ has done with it but I have concerns about the move back to .47” from .65” especially with their 4LED light engine. All their models so far have used the .65 to good effect. It feels a bit like the availability of affordable 98/100” flat panels has killed the middle market of home theater projectors. The X3000/X3100i (I reviewed the 3000 way back) are very bright, decent contrast— at the time I reviewed the 3000i I remarked on it’s contrast but that was when the average lamp based RGBW 4k DLP was doing around 1000:1 with poor color and around half that with accurate color. The 1200:1 of the X3000i combined with its insane lumen output was a revelation. Then came along the HT2060/TH690ST. (Another model I reviewed— you can find over at AVS) Both 1080p models. Both significantly dimmer than the X3000/3100. But both with WAY better contrast/blacks. I measured the HT2060 over 1900:1 depending on picture mode. I’m still using an HT2060 in my basement home theater and prefer it for PS5 games. The contrast is simply better than everything below the UB Epsons. Despite the ability to accept 4K/HDR I run the 2060 as an Hd/rec709 unit. Then BenQ dropped the Ht4550i. Reliability issues aside this is still my favorite DLP that has ever been released. I wept quietly when mine bit the dust a couple months ago. Contrast was closer to the X3000i (around 1300:1) but a variety of picture enhancements including the first usable application of their smarteco dimming feature, a clever ‘local contrast’ enhancer and hands down the best HDR tone mapping I’ve seen this side of a JVC— stellar projector. For Bluray I would still pick the HT2060 for it’s deeper blacks but for all things 4K it was simply the best I’ve seen at it’s price and you get even more output than the X3000– huge screens welcome. I never reviewed the X500i but every article I read seems to indicate it pairs the contrast/blacks of the HT2060/TH690ST with the HDR tone mapping of the 4550i. That’s a winner in my book. But apparently not in BenQ’s— they swapped the X label on it, equipped it with a Short throw lens and sold it as a gaming projector. Remember how I said large TVs were killing mid range home theater projectors? The X500i as well as the Viewsonic X series models are my chalk outline. These SHOULD have longer lenses and SHOULD be sold as bargain HT models with premium performance. But the manufacturers felt the need to slap the ‘gamer’ label on them. No faith to seek them to the HT crowd who, they must assume, have either moved WAY up market or have given up and bought a large flat panel. Pisses me off. I want a solid state 4K projector with good contrast, good HDR tone mapping and a little bit of flexibility in the lens (1.3X zoom and a 10% vertical lens shift is perfect). I don’t need a ton of lumens as I have a blacked out room. I want to pay around $2K. The X500i would be perfect with a different lens. I love love love love the 4550i but it’s $3000 and overkill for my 100” screen. The X3100i is nice— but I want better contrast/blacks. Epson has abandoned this price category and is still hawking the aging lamp based 3800 and the hilariously old 4010. Optoma has nothing in the range. Sony algae abandoned the mid/low price tiers. JVC was never there. It sucks. It really does feel I’m being pushed to buy a big Tv. And then there’s the w2720i. Super curious on this one as it might determine my next display purchase and if I abandon front projection in the cinema.

I don't know for sure, but from other reviews it seems that most of the laser projectors can be calibrated to quite accurate, so yes, but with caveats. Benq makes sure that the unit is accurate before shipping which is a big plus, as most people never touch the color settings.

Based on your post, it seems like you're leaning toward a projector for "watching movies." In that case, I'd recommend going with the W2720i. It uses the latest 0.47" DMD chip, combined with BenQ's color-tuning tech and the newest AI features, giving you the best movie-watching experience. If you're planning to game, then you might want to consider the X3100i instead.

If you’ve got a dedicated home theater room, I’d actually recommend going with the BenQ W2720i. It comes with GCE/LCE, and while the spec sheet numbers might not look super impressive on paper, the onboard AI processing does some serious magic. It makes the image *feel* way punchier—blacks look deeper, highlights pop more, and you still get fine details like clouds in a blue sky or the texture on a black suit. It’s kinda wild when you see it in action.

r/projectors · BenQ w2720i rainbow effect is killing me! Any similar projector recommendations?

I am still pleased with the LifeStudio Flex Plus. Coming directly from the BenQ W2720i, I was a bit disappointed in the sharpness of the video. However, after a bit of time with the projector it doesn't bother me anymore. It is still more sharp than my previous Nexigo PJ40. That being said, for the price point the PJ40 is plenty sharp for a 1080p projector. Mine started showing signs of impending self destruction around the 2 year mark. I think it is reasonable to ask 1-2 years out of the thing. I'm with you on being disappointed that they aren't more RBE-free options out there!

r/projectors · BenQ w2720i rainbow effect is killing me! Any similar projector recommendations?

I've been using the TriVision for almost 2 weeks now and just got done packing it back into the box for return. I think the RBE was a little bit worse than the BenQ, but the decision to return it was pushed forward by a few other things: \* I have a bunch of items plugged into a power strip and I usually turn the whole lot off when I'm done. The TriVision powers up AND turns on every time I flip the switch. So after powering up I have to get the remote and turn it back off. Which brings me to the second point... \* The "boot" process is slow. A touch long for my liking. All I want is an HDMI input. All the extra Android stuff isn't necessary and undoubtedly adds to the boot time. \* The remote is so annoying! It isn't especially sensitive and has to be aimed at the back of the unit. \* The hundred pound power brick is undesirable for ceiling mounting. \* Subjective, but I don't care for the square blocky look when mounted on the ceiling. I knew it going in, but they definitely geared the device towards setting up and putting away regularly. On the plus side, the colours really seem to pop on the Nexigo vs the BenQ. Out-of-the-box they seem unnaturally.. colourful, though. I had to make some tweaks to the settings until I was satisfied. So the BenQ will go back up for now. It has a longer return window, so I can still think on this.

r/projectors · Need help choosing projector 3 to 5.5K budget

I live in the €3k price bracket, and for what the W4100i offers in terms of color and sharpness, it's just fantastic. I just didn't need the brightness which is why I went W2720i, because I don't mind the black levels at all. My cinema experience still looks better than my local cinema, so that's my benchmark, and of course my opinion is tainted by that. I don't know what I'm missing out on, because I haven't had a more expensive projector in my room, but I know because people speak so highly of them, that JVC/Sony are in a league of their own. That said, I have seen comparisons between a high end JVC, I believe the NZ9, vs a LS12000, and much preferred the image of the LS12000. In other words, I'm leaning way more towards high color brightness, and high HDR impact.

The w2720i which you suggested looks fantastic but not many reviews. Think it might be a winner though as could probably get it for £2k with 5-6year warranty and love that it's got a lot a lens shift. That AI colour adjustment mode could be really handy too as I am crap at adjusting colours. Again many thanks for the detailed advice here!

The x3100i is a good projector, but it doesn't have the shadow details and black levels of competing products. Including their own. The 2720i, would maybe be a bit better. The w4100i would be a better choice. There are other choices as well which would be better overall. Still, I wouldn't sweat it and you should try calibration if you can do so. Adjusting brightness, contrast, and gamma can make a big difference in your on-screen quality. As well, as I'm sure you know, a completely dark room is critical to best results.

Thanks alot for your input, I will have a look at that specific BenQHT4550i - Not sure if it has another model number here in Europe ? The TK710 I have been checking on that, it's throw distances (it can do the 150" in my room), but it will have to be mounted in the ceiling like 1 meter out from the wall, making it more visible in the living room, as if it (like BenQ 2720 + Hisense C2) can be mounted way back at the wall and still project the 150" from a 2,7 meter distance.

    r/projectors · I've just ordered a BenQ W2720i...

Reading your hole thread here with interest ;) Due to the Black Friday in my area (offer run til Sunday), I have the Hisense C2 Ultra in shops with a price app. 30% lower than what is is offered for normally. Reading this thread though, brings me thoughts to consider, and that is if I should choose the BenQ W2720i instead. My coming setup (refurbishing the living room atm), will be a 150" screen and watching from a close distance of only just 4 meters, here both projectors offers great throw distances - but would you have any concern by the BenQ W2720i to project on a 150" screen size ? Believe I noticed some mentioning not to have it to project on screens wider than 3 meters (150" = 3,32 meters wide). Laser surely should provide high level lights to the 150", but evetnually it could also be tooo much ? And 3,32 meters, is just a little step over the 3 meter width, so hope the BenQ would do it. Coming from a old well used and still running BenQ1070W with a 110", it should be a pretty great step up - eventually I can be a little concerned about the waranty on the Hisense, and knowing BenQ from 10 years with the 1070W i feel kinda better of staying with them. Please let me know what you think, thanks ahead!

    r/projectors · BenQ W2720I or Hisense C2 Ultra on a 150" Screen ?

Won't be doing that - As I allready come from 110" - And in relation with refurbishing the house, I have closed/sealed a door off, and build a new wide wall in the living room for the exact reason to go for 150" :) I also tried with my old BenQ1070W to run the 150" on that dedicated wall, its GREAT and I LOVE IT :) Only thing is that 1070W is a "little old" now, and aswell it can project the 150" but only if its placed with its rear sticking out the window haha, so throw distance is too long for 1070W, where both Hisense + BenQ 2720i will do the "new job" in terms of throwing big at shorter distance :)

The W2720i will work well on a 150 screen, but you won't see good HDR because it's such a big screen and HDR on projectors gets much worse after like 128. I HATE that the c2 ultra or c3 don't have lens shift and also the mounting options suck for lifestyle projectors. I would pick the TK710 over a heartbeat because of the brightness. But none of these beat the HT4550i, and it's not close Here's the link to the HT4550i: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/166892729887?\_skw=benq+ht4550i&epid=15062125393&itmmeta=01KB8EDMY2J527D9WHX1T981EF&hash=item26db94f61f:g:droAAeSwJjtpKnjR&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA0FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1cpu6SqknBk7l2oM0BdBnpsSy%2FMNcZ8Nh51ah0I2j6pO1wQlzJgwp6%2BHMGMZYBbsm4e4ZIF5PITADCcEJHW43cxG%2BG67tAkNjhYRQe3e7Xaxv44h8zl2l5NvBNBgWUZNIOPmKvLkGrhSYEUIRieFlnMY3d2icoD%2Bn1yrUoeazm0IaCr75eUQxnhmvSafvdNlNSzgTTw5K%2F64jUE5IUSKxRa1LiETgE78fypqgIbe1WnYxa3yfEbclYTo6GdIzCXvsw%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5TPto7aZg](https://www.ebay.com/itm/166892729887?_skw=benq+ht4550i&epid=15062125393&itmmeta=01KB8EDMY2J527D9WHX1T981EF&hash=item26db94f61f:g:droAAeSwJjtpKnjR&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA0FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1cpu6SqknBk7l2oM0BdBnpsSy%2FMNcZ8Nh51ah0I2j6pO1wQlzJgwp6%2BHMGMZYBbsm4e4ZIF5PITADCcEJHW43cxG%2BG67tAkNjhYRQe3e7Xaxv44h8zl2l5NvBNBgWUZNIOPmKvLkGrhSYEUIRieFlnMY3d2icoD%2Bn1yrUoeazm0IaCr75eUQxnhmvSafvdNlNSzgTTw5K%2F64jUE5IUSKxRa1LiETgE78fypqgIbe1WnYxa3yfEbclYTo6GdIzCXvsw%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5TPto7aZg)
