r/Brompton · New bike day: Brompton G Line Electric

After renting a C-line Brompton for a couple of weeks and having my bike stolen in London previously, I knew that I wanted to get one. However, I found the London roads and wanting to adventure further afield were core limiting factors to the shakiness I found with the c-line. When I tried the G line electric I knew it was perfect for what I wanted. No sweaty commutes during the summer and still fits perfectly in the hallway. This thing is built like a beast and feels like a full sized bike whilst riding, and the power assist is so fun.

I have it insured, registered with the police, a location tracker installed and an angle grinder resistant lock. Regardless, it never leaves my side. In London, I would never leave it outside. You could take it into a shop rolling it, but it is heavy.

    r/Brompton · I tried the G Line and...

It is a hub motor… and given the drag you mentioned (along with the light gravel positioning), it would be \_interesting\_ if there was a regen-braking option. Even if it didn’t put back a decent amount of power, it would seem to be useful for some types of rides.

    r/Brompton · Electric G-Line vs C-Line

Depends on your use case... The eG is more or less a solid adventure bike, with the electric assistance for the "end of a long trip" (so to speak. Its more like a full-sized bike in terms of feel and ability. And not really a "commuter bike" like the C-line. The electric C-line is a "slightly longer commuter's great friend." The size of the eC makes it great for multi-modal journeys. That's not to say its not an adventure bike, but you'd find the wheel size a bit constraining for the harder journeys (yes, others have done some narly stuff, but its nor as meant for the rougher bits as the eG). The electrics on both are similar-enough for most folks, but you might find the eG a bit more usable depending on how you pedal. The weight of the eC is nice... that's not to say that the eG is heavy, but comparing the both, its nice to not have to swing as much in one arm (if you keep the battery attached after folding).

    r/Brompton · Electric G-Line vs C-Line

For paved rides and the lightweight, the eC would feel solid. If you think you’d venture the packed dirt trails for more than half the rides, go with the eG instead.

r/Brompton · G line electric real world test

Woah, that’s really impressive. Remembering my limited time with a eG, that’s quite awesome. Nice temps and pacing really does make some electrics really shine.

When I test rode it here in the USA, level 1 showed me 32-35mi of range with a 100% battery, level 2 at 30mi https://flic.kr/p/2rtCYtk, and 23mi of range with level 3 https://flic.kr/p/2rtHi3f. I’m around 150lbs, and it was a great set of weather conditions. That should help you get a feel for how things work for you.

    r/Brompton · NBD: T-Line Electric

Well dang, and congrats. Legit answered thoughts I’ve had about the eT-line. The ability to be a bit faster than the eG is notable as that was an issue I thought about in my short time with it. Might have more questions later, but going to just 👏🏾 this write up and smile at what I think is a (high end and pricey) win for a few Brompton owners.

    r/Brompton · Electric G line vs C Line: Comfort?

G line is substantially more comfortable than a normal Brompton bigger wheels wider tyres and wider handlebars all add to this, however it's big and a hassle to lug about. I used one for a week on a train and I was glad to have my C line back afterwards. If you just need to fold it at work and at home not faff around with stairs and lifting it places it's great.

    r/Brompton · My new Electric G-Line - a couple issues

There should be zero reason the rear wheel is losing traction it only puts out 24nm of torque I have a mid drive emtb that puts out a 100nm of torque and that doesn't even break traction so something very odd is going on there.

    r/Brompton · Electric G line vs C Line: Comfort?

I love my G Line but it’s basically a folding bike that doesn’t feel like it is one and that fits well in a car boot. The use case I basically see it as (and why I bought it) is being able to ride mixed terrain stuff and not have to fit a car rack on my car, which means I’m more likely to actually do it.

r/Brompton · Bought the G Line Electric on April 2, and I’ve already crossed the 2,000 km mark with just 21 battery charge cycles. That’s about 98 km per full charge.

When I’m going to work I use mode 2 almost all the time unless I’m in a hurry then mode 3. If I’m going to a trip or just a chill route around the city, I almost exclusively use mode 1. For me the only kinda tedious part of cycling is starting from a stop so having just the initial push until you get rolling, it’s enough. If it’s flat and don’t have any headwind, you can perfectly pedal without assistance at around 22/24 km/h. Mode 1 cuts power at 21 km/h so above that speed you’re basically not using battery at all. Today I did 94 km at mode 1 all the time and ended with 20 % of battery with 515 m total elevation gain.

    Longue distanceReliefTrajet quotidien
r/Brompton · G line electric real world test

Yeah, absolutely. Mode 1 really sips power, especially when after 22 km/h the motor doesn’t assist at all. Like any other motor, it uses a lot of power on the steep hills and starting from stop in mode 2 or 3.

I also love my G line electric, I rode 2000 km in three and a half months with it. I share some of your thoughts, except I didn’t have any issue with the chain dropping, you should check your chaing catcher because I guess that it’s not doing much work. About the gears, I strongly suggest that you swap the stock chairing for the 44 teeth one, the difference is massive. You’ll be able to climb better and start from stop much easier.

    ReliefTrajet quotidien
    r/Brompton · G line electric range test #2

Technically yes, but I guess that the speedometer is not perfect because at mode 3, until 27 km/h it keeps assisting. Mode 2 cutoff is 25 sharp and mode 1 is 21/22.

r/Brompton · New bike day: Brompton G Line Electric

It’s a really nice bike, don’t forget to adjust the tire pressure, mine came at 3 bar and it’s too much, you feel everything. Now it’s at 2,2-2,4 bar approx and it’s much better.

r/Brompton · Which brompton do you think is more practical for me in the long run, the C line 12 speed or G line electric?

If you’re not planning to do longer trips and you need to take your bike on the bus/train, I would go for the C line. Also, even with the reduced 44 teeth chainring, you could struggle going uphill with the G line electric, speaking from experience. If you have the money for the G line, I would go for the P line instead.

    Longue distanceMultimodalRelief
r/Brompton · One month with the G line electric

Well it depends on your fitness level but yes you can, it’s not always pleasant because you have to keep in mind that there are three main things that are generating drag: the motor, the knobby tires and the front battery. If you’re asking if you still have enough high gears with the 44t, yes, you can pedal at comfortable RPM at about 30 km/h.

r/Brompton · One month with the G line electric

It’s not really aftermarket since the 44t chainring is made and sold by Brompton directly. A lot of oficial Brompton dealers offer this modification and it doesn’t void the warranty. It’s extremely easy to do by yourself but you’ll need some special tools. If you’re not a home mechanic you’ll probably only use them once so maybe it’s better if you pay the shop mechanics to do it.

Yep, in my first trip with the bike, I went to another city with train and I brought the charger with me. You’re completely right saying that with a bit of charging you can extend your total range. For example during the 1 h+ of eating in a restaurant I went from 70 % or so to almost 100.

Pretty much, yes. I’ve experienced several personal electric vehicles over the last 10 years, and this is the first one where the estimated range changes during the ride not only because of the remaining battery, but also depending on how you ride it. It’s very interesting to see in action. I can’t swap the tires because I sometimes go off-road with it.

I have the MK1 in orange and wish black was an option then. I absolutely love the electric G line and have no issues taking it on the tube or taking up space as it's no bigger than a normal suitcase. I've added a few mods that allow me to roll it easily with one hand when folded. I've also since added the bigger electric bag so I don't have to wear a backpack when riding, though it isn't great space wise (i.e. can't get a packed lunch box in there).

r/Brompton · Just recieved my Brompton G Line Electric...peoples thoughts?

Mate I’ve just got mine and have to agree with most of what you said. Mine is the large too and in the trail dust white (lovely champagne like colour). It is a silly expensive bike but it does feel worth the money to me, this is honestly the most comfortable and fun to ride bike I’ve ridden in a long time. The battery assist is great as you mentioned and the size is big but manageable and for what I need is perfect. The luggage thing is my bigger peeve it’s proper annoying they haven’t realised anything decent. They have teased the 18l electric luggage which they offered me in store but it’s £170 and it looks shite. Why are they not offering waterproof 20+L capacity with some shoulder straps. I want to put everything on the front with the battery, unclick it throw it over my shoulder, fold the bike and go. This is a huge oversight. If they don’t sort, a third party will. Also I had a thought, when they release the luggage frame for the electric g line all bags that previously strapped into the electric frame actually will be compatible. The battery is similar form factor to previous it’s just the actual front mounting block that differs. As a bigger lad I don’t find it difficult to pick up and move. Rolling it is super easy too. People moaning about it being heavy aren’t the people that it’s aimed at. I live in a tiny flat and commute 45km a day. I wanted something that is easy to store at home (tick) something that doesn’t kill my back from an agro racing position (tick) something that I can have fun on, take travelling, give an assist so don’t need to waste all my energy getting to and from work (tick, tick, tick) I’m not doing multi modal transport, but I would happily take this on a train. You can happily take this up two flights of stairs if you’re physically active. I’ve done the commute run and I’ve done a couple errands, so far I’m beaming and very happy with the purchase. I feel I’m it’s perfect use case, works for me anyway. The other things I can hold out for.

r/Brompton · G Line Electric riders, have you replaced your cranks with 160mm ones?

I’m pretty sure the new P line crank will work on the electric. They are still square taper and the chainline is adjusted with the axle in the BB. But yeah looks like they don’t have those on sale yet. You could go third party if you’re impatient. Spa cycles sells square taper cranks in a variety of lengths. If you want something cheap and temporary to try out. Aliexpress has tons of options as well.

r/Brompton · Is now a bad time to buy an electric C line?

Highly Doubtful … battery used is already identical between both (so G borrows from C/P electrics) … and rear wheel of G is larger so allows for different internal hub motor + external gearing only—4-speed. G electric design seems limited for gearing options where the C/P electrics don’t have that problem With the electric motor being in the front of the bike. The rear can be focused on gearing options on the C/P. The G line electric seems to be restricted to external only. Hope they add more in the future 4 just too few for my needs. Love my c-12 electric!

r/Brompton · G line electric real world test

Gorgeous! Yes, the black is spectacular … the paint job they do on the G’s is textured and quite beautiful, seems more durable.  Would be a hard choice for me between the green and the black.   I just bought a Tern Vektron p10 electric folder to compliment my Brompton eC-12 (black lacquer) and since Tern use Bosch motors one has more charger options.  Bought it for cargo runs to replace a Lectric XP 3.0. But might be good for longer rides due to faster charging you mentioned 🤔.  3 options, 2/4/6 Amp versions. Ships w/4a … considering the 2a actually for portability.

The range is better than you think … when you bring along the tiny deck of cards sized charger … easy to top up on breaks.  I have the same battery … with your ride style and terrain, a 30-minute top-up adds roughly 10–12 km of extra practical range.

    Longue distance
r/Brompton · G line electric real world test

The small charger might be my favorite feature of the new Greenway battery! I just wish the software allowed an 80% charge limit, so I didn’t have to manage it manually. From my testing, 30 minutes of charging adds about 15% when the battery is below 40%, and about 11% when it’s above 40% up to 80%—close enough for planning. For a long day, I’d start at 100% and use it within a day of full, then try to keep it in the 20–80% range during the ride for faster top-ups. Basically, I’m applying the same methods I use for driving and charging EVs. By the way, you left out the most important detail: the color of your G-Line!

    Longue distance
r/Brompton · Is now a bad time to buy an electric C line?

I would assume the C – LINE, which is based on the same electric platform that’s been shipping and improving since 2018 is mature technology and likely more reliable than the new motor technology they put in the G – LINE. Both bikes use the same battery, the Greenway battery, a slight upgrade from the BMZ (look identical). I think the size of the C LINE would be much more conducive for the tube … the smaller size. I have a new 12 speed electric, but for seven months I had the 4 speed electric, but found I really needed the extra gears for hills, so I exchanged for the 12. Over time the G LINE will add more gearing options I’m sure, but for today it’s only 4 gears. The Greenway battery charger tiny, only the size of a deck of cards, and it’s only $49 for a second one so get one either way. It’s just great to have a charger with you, it gives you more trip options, you can easily top up for 30 minutes and get 4 to 6 more miles.

These distances are about right. The most I have got out of mine is 40miles, and I was mainly riding assist #2 and going to #3 when I wanted more speed. Near the end of my journey I would drop down to #1 just so that I dont run out of power. All of this is along English country roads with easy hills. Pedalling on no power is not nice due to the gearing in the hub motor, as it gives some resistance. My experience is that assist #1 is necessary to just ride the bike. You also have a top end to your speed with pedalling (unless you are going down a steep hill). I am considering a 2nd battery so that I can travel further whist camping.

    r/Brompton · G Line vs G Line Electric - Erfahrungen?

No. I can lease the bike for good conditions over my employer and might buy it after two years if I lime it. So basically with two year rates and a final purchase price I will pay less than 70% of the regular purchase price AND most of it in form of interest free rates instead of paying everything up-front. I will certainly NOT pay more for additional wheels and shifters. All I want to know is how well the bike operates as a normal bike while the battery pack remains at home.

This range is for the 8 speed non-electric with 54T but you’re right of course! I was only mentioning the low end because the top end is still fine according to me on the electric with a 44T and factory sprockets : about 35 km/h at 90 rpm which is roughly what I get on my Koga on 7th speed. I only use the 8th downhill and could live without it. The low end however is difficult for me to assess as I don’t know what to expect from the motor, that the main question in fact.

Indeed and during my test today (flat only unfortunately) I had the feeling the bike had pretty long gears: I was easily around 21 km/h on the 1st gear. Maybe it’s the right tuning given the motor assistance but I’m a bit skeptical

The G Series is wonderful. Very comfortable ride. Handles very well on pavement and dirt trails. Folds up into a tidy, but a bit awkward, bundle. I was close to buying the regular version, but opted for the electric model for $1450 more. I changed the chainring to 45 teeth, and will install 11 15. 18. 21 teeth cogs on the back to provide better low range for climbing steep hills. Max speed is under 20 mph, but that’s fast enough for me. It does not go well on a steep rough trail. It is very heavy to push up a slope. It does not have walk assist function. Otherwise, I love this bike and look forward to riding it on many new adventures! Our local REI has an orange version sitting neglected and un appreciated by staff. Not sure if this is typical, but if you are interested in test riding one, check out REI.

I have the electric G line. It is heavy. That should be taken into consideration if you have to take it up and down stairs. If you have luggage, you have to take that luggage off to fold it. You can leave the battery bag on the front, but it wants to fall over with all the weight on one side like that. I commute with the front "essentials" bag that comes with the bike. I also have the Vincita Nash bag to carry my lunch and a change of clothes. When I get on the train, I'm carrying two bags and a bike. I love riding the bike, but its not perfect. r/Brompton · One month with the G line electric

Exactly my thought. I don’t currently own a bike, but I’m looking to improve my commute (5.6 miles) and I’m torn between electric and non-electric. I need to wear a suit at work, I can leave it in the office and change, but there are no showers, so that’s a factor too. I also prefer the look of the standard G, I’m not a fan of the front bag, and it feels simpler to never have to worry about charging a battery. I was looking at swapping the chainring, since that apparently makes a big difference in how much effort you need to pedal. I also looked into conversion kits but haven’t found anything solid yet.

Folding pedals might be nice as it's annoying having to remove the pedal, so I never do it. I was initially going for orange but I fell in love with the black. I saw couple on my ride to Richmond and they both had the orange one, we have each other a look of approval 😅

You can ride it without the battery and there's a little motor drag but it's not much. It's not going to be like a mid drive motor but it's ok to ride without. I had the same dilemma. If you are in London you can go to Brompton junction in Covent Garden and try them out, for me that was what settled it.

    r/Brompton · Electric G-Line vs C-Line

In the end both bikes are too expensive too choose blind. We can share our experiences but everyone is different. Make an effort to try both out. I wouldn’t buy blind. I have had a c line also for 2 years. Loved it (non electric). 2 speed. Was very fast. I found it too heavy also back then. Now the G is even heavier but the ride is so much more comfortable and natural. I also carry my G in my car. The C i took mostly on the train. I wouldn’t buy the G if i had the take it every day on the train.

Riding it without the battery mounted, it gets really twitchy and hard to ride. I tried this on the roads once from the office to the train station, literally 3 minutes on flat pavement, got most of the way to the station and put the battery on because it was so difficult to balance. So if you want to do more work, simply turn the assist off, but leave the mass out front. The bike needs it.

    r/Brompton · Tern Vektron S10 (Gen 3) vs Brompton Electric (2020) impressions

The Vectron has buckets of power for hills, and we've only got the Q9. The S10 is pointlessly overpowered in Europe. Getting it on trains isn't as bad as I feared to be honest. It fits on the luggage racks we've tried, and between seats. Some of the videos on folding suggest using the cargo bungee to hold the bike together, which really helps. As you say though, as well as being generally bigger everything is exposed, making the process more fiddly. The C-line is vastly easier of course, but I'm not convinced the G-line would be much easier. Getting the Brompton luggage block was really worth it, given our back-catalogue of Brompton bags. We use that far more than the back rack. Having a separate battery bag would have been annoying. It's real Achilles heel is the derailleur, which is barely off the ground and has hardly clearance with the Baloon tires in first gear. I've seen suggestion of a replacement derailleur that's a bit more compact, but not looked into it properly. Whether a G-Line electric would have been a better choice I dunno, but it wasn't available at the time. I was a bit wary given how many problems the C-line electrics initially had tho'. Felt like there was safety going for a bike with ~standard Bosch parts.

r/Brompton · Doubt about new G Line electric

Thank you very much for your comments. I have an electric mountain bike, it has 15 speeds, and the nice thing about that bike is you can turn off the electric part and activate it when you really need it. The bike has cost a fraction of the price of the G Line and I am happy with it. The point is that you think about buying a Brompton for quality and warranty, and also because it’s a compact bike that you can fold up and take anywhere. What I expect from a G Line is an experience similar to my mountain bike, saving distances, that is, the electric part must be an option that I activate when I need it. What discourages me from considering the purchase, is precisely that it has only 4 gears, and I think it is very scarce for the variety of terrain in which they are supposed to drive the bike. That forces to have the electric part always running, and for me this is not an advantage but a problem. There are parts of the trip that you can do that don’t need electrical assistance at all, or you might want to save that assistance for a more difficult part of the trip. In short, I consider the activation of the electrical part to be an option and not an obligation. That makes the G Line electric not seem to me complete only with 4 gears, since it seems that the electric part on this bike is mandatory. Right now it is a bike model that is not valid for the types of terrain I have at my disposal. Thank you very much!

r/Brompton · Is now a bad time to buy an electric C line?

I ordered an electric C-Line in June in the UK assuming i’d get the new greenway battery that comes on the G-Line, but it came with the BMZ battery. Bit disappointing, but the BMZ has usb phone charging and the greenway doesn’t. I could still upgrade to a greenway later if needed. The C-Line electric is heavy enough already, the G-Line must be a beast. I tested a standard G-Line and it was massive when folded compared to the C-Line. That was the main reason i went for a C-Line and when i tested it I was surprised that the weight of the battery and motor combo on the front helped with stability over the standard C-Line. The C-Line 12 speed also has more gears than the G-Line. I bought electric because there are massive hills where i live, but in London I’d probably be tempted to go for a standard C-Line. But so far I’m happy with the C-Line electric, as long as it lasts, but that remains to be seen

I really like it. It feels more natural and less agricultural than other e bikes I’ve tried. I have a ridgeback errand also which is a bit more aggressive. This feels much more progressive and more of a natural riding feel to it. It feels more like riding with a tailwind than having the bike do the work for you. It does like hills and really kick in when you drop it down a bit and spin. It’s also a hoot off-road! A lot of the time I’ve gone past the maximum speed and it’s not kicking in so the slower speeds off road make it much more noticeable. I also go everywhere full gas all the time so charge it regularly!

If you don't carry some momentum, sure, as is the case with any non mid-motor electric bike as far as I know. But we've got to be talking about really steep hills. I wouldn't worry about the motors torque to get you through though. Felt plenty to me. I've ridden a few Shimano mid motor 65NM e-bikes, and this didn't feel too bad in comparison. The power curve did seem very abrupt, both accelerating and on cutdown. Worst par for me is the lag, if you go into a hill with the motor disconnected you might as well stall whilst waiting for it to help you. It's not unlike what we already knew from the other electric Brompton though.

r/Brompton · Brompton G Line Electric - No good bags!

Hi there, Curious how you all handle this: when you're out with your G Line Electric and take the battery with you, do you have any techniques or bag recommendations? I'm looking for a small bag to carry keys, phone, and the battery — something comfortable to wear while walking around after locking up the bike. The standard bag only has a single shoulder strap, which isn't great for walking around town. I do have the LumaBag, but it's way too big just for a quick errand/outing away from the bike. Any tips on smaller bags/pouches that work well for this? Crossbody options especially welcome.

This is interesting timing. I just moved into an apartment and have an electric bike I quite love (Specialized Turbo Vado) and the thing I find the most annoying is that it's a huge hassle to navigate that giant bike out of the bike room, into the elevator, out of the elevator, out the door of the apartment building, etc. I'm debating a Brompton again, because I feel like I'd find it much easier to take out of the building and would do well enough for local errands in the 5 mile radius where I need it.

    r/Brompton · G-Line Electric Garmin Connection

Since this didn't seem like it was going to get resolved, I challenged Claude to work it through and have a mostly functional app working as an extension on my Hammerhead Karoo. I'm pretty certain it can be ported to Connect IQ. After sniffing out the Bluetooth connection, it should be able to pull through: * speed * power * light status * range * odometer * trip all on the head unit, which is pretty cool. If I can get it to work as Connect IQ, that means I can get it to work on my Forerunner watch or an Edge headunit as well. used the apk from the brompton app, my bike's serial as the key to unlock (like the app does) and am connected with data streaming live. Took a bit to calibrate the speed and get the sensors all to be seen. The key missing data is power / watts. I am assuming that's based on the how the torque is used to generate vs other motors that tend to multiply a ratio against user power generation. A quick test outside this am and some more debugging but think I'll have this working at least for me later today.

r/Brompton · Test-Ride Electric G-Line in SF East Bay, California?

Thanks for your reply and impressions. I ended up buying a Vektron since there was a great deal on Upway for a used Gen 3 S10. Rode some 9 miles on the Vektron today, verdict's still out on how I feel about it. I test rode the acoustic G-Line last year and it was one of the most comfortable bikes I've ever ridden. Sublime really. The Vektron is nice, but so far not dramatically more stable than my electric C-line is (of course it rolls over bumps much more smoothly). I was also a bit surprised to find the weight distributions isn't as centered as I expected for a mid drive, perhaps because the vektron's rear end is so overbuilt. My C-line electric feels better balanced. I have other bi-folds before so I knew the fold wasn't going to be as elegant as the Brompton, and Tern does some things better than most, but yeah in person the G-line is in a different league of neatness. I probably wouldn't want to take the G-line onto a packed rush-hour subway (I'm in NYC), but it' would be doable. On the vektron it feels like more of a "only if I have no other choice" situation. Still, I probably can't justify the 5K+tax for the G-Line electric, especially since I can't even use my two first-gen C-Line batteries on it, sighs. The Bosch motor is very nice too.

It will depend on what your comfortable setup is unfolded. I've found the comfortable unfolded setting for both myself and my wife both put the handlebars in the way of the fold. Best advice: find a dealer and try it out. I simply don't fold in on the local subway (BART), but the trains are not crowded enough to require it when using the train and it's still a bit smaller than a normal bike overall even when unfolded. I'm also losing enthusiasm for the G-Line as I look into lower-cost alternatives in the micro-mobility market. My old NYCeWheels-kitted 2012 Brompton has a replacement battery now (though heavier than I wanted) so getting the G-Line is less pressing.

20 KMs seems way too short. On assist level 3 my P Line always manages 30-35 KMs while the motor has the same power output and the batt is smaller (BMZ). On assist 2 it ranges between 45 - 50 KMs. The G line is heavier and the G One tyres have high rolling resistance but I can't imagine the toll for that is this high. The bike being brand new and the batt maybe on its first charge could have something to do with it?

r/ebikes · Thinking of switching from a Lectric XP Lite 2.0 to a Brompton Electric (P Line vs G Line)

I had a Brompton C and I still have my original XP Lite. Here are my comments. >It’s been solid for the price, but I’m running into a few issues and I can't discern its because I don't have much experience with ebikes: >Wobbly handling, especially at low speeds or around tight turns You might want to have your assembly and the bike in general checked at the local bike shop. Be ready to pay a small fee for this. Sometimes they come with the steering stem installed backwards. If you decide to sell it, you'll be able to say it's been tuned up by a pro. >Hard to feel stable or intuitive when slowing down — **brakes feel far**, and assist isn’t always smooth If assembly is right, this sounds like a skill level thing. Maybe the brake cables need to be tightened up after their initial stretching... >Heavy and awkward to move around (I’m in a city, so portability matters) Yes, for a "Lite" eBike, they're still on the heavy side at around 50 lbs. Most folding eBikes are more like 65+ lbs though. They're not for lifting too often... > **What I want to know is:** >How does a Brompton ride compared to a Lectric in terms of comfort and control? My Brompton was a bit more comfortable than my XP Lite, despite having smaller, narrower tires. I think the frame, handle post and seat posts all had some flex that smoothed out the ride a bit. As for control, it was excellent, but steering was a bit twitchy. I got used to it quickly, but I've been riding bikes my whole life; it might take you longer. >Do the 16” wheels on the P Line feel twitchy or do you adapt quickly? Yes and yes. ;-) >Is the assist smooth and responsive, especially from a stop? I can't help here, as I had a regular one not electric. >Would the G Line be better for someone who values stability and confidence over compactness? Yes, if you can afford it! However, you'd get used to the smaller wheels and come to enjoy the compactness and lightness of the C or P line, in a city. (unless your roads are awful) * If you’ve switched from a heavier e-bike (like Lectric, Rad, etc.) to a Brompton, was it night-and-day better, or just different? I have a couple of folding bikes, a couple of heavier eBikes and another folding eBike. They all have different character, but for something that needs to be loaded/unloaded often, lightness and compactness are king!

Any perceived drag was probably from the Alfine 8 hub, combined with the lower pressure tires. I understand the Alfine 8 is not as efficient as the Sturmey-Archer 3. Alfine 8 & 11 suffer a 5-10% loss in efficiency, compared to chain & derailleur, FYI. I'm not sure what the figure is on the SA 3-spd.

    r/Brompton · I tried the G Line and...

So I followed my girlfriend to testride the G-Line, even though I wasn’t interested in buying one. Now it won’t go out of my head… here are my impressions and thoughts. **Weight**: Not as bad as expected. For the size of the bike, the difference to my 6 speed C-Line with dynamo lighting, it even feels unexpectedly „light“. **Brakes:** Equipped with TRP 2-piston hydraulic brakes, offering quality and easily available parts. Most likely uses Shimano-type pads, which are widely accessible and affordable. One test bike had a minor issue where the brake hose twisted when folding the bike, causing it to rub on the cranks—likely a setup issue, easily fixed by the dealer. No fault of Brompton's, just worth mentioning. **Wheels & Riding:** Wheels & Riding: Fantastic! The bike rolls smoothly over everything. Combined with the G-Line's longer, more stable geometry, it feels like a mountain bike. I instinctively rode up curbs, down small stairs, and played around—trackstanding felt effortless. The tubeless-compatible wheels are a bonus, though I forgot to ask if the rims were pre-taped. I come from mountainbiking, and the G-Line makes me want to do all the naughty stuff I do with mountainbikes! **Bike Fit (Sizes, Stack, Reach)**: The differences between S, M, and L sizes are smaller than expected. Each comes with different seat posts (short, extended, telescopic) and stem sizes, but they all have the same riser bars. I prefer a sportier position and might try a flat bar, though even that might feel high for long distances, considering my back issues. The bars are quite wide—about 60-64 cm. **Pedals**: Similar mechanism to the T-Line pedals but larger, with plastic teeth providing decent grip. I didn’t notice them while riding, which is a good sign—no slipping concerns. **Gearing**: 8-speed Alfine? I was certainly not the only one scratching my head. So let me present you my thoughts of why Brompton chose to do this: Reliability, ease of use (thankfully it has a Microshift trigger, and not a gripshi(f)t), offers the same range as a 6-speed (300%), cost-effective (best bang for buck). * „Why not an Alfine 11-speed?“ Lowest climbing gear is limited by the allowed input torque into the hubs internal gears, and the limit is the same on the 8s and 11s. So Brompton cannot use an 11s with a different Chainring/Cog combo to get lower gears - heavy or strong riders would simply destroy the hub’s internals. * „Why no derailleur?“ The electric apparently comes with Bromptons 4-speed, but these are much smaller in range. Standard derailleur systems with larger range would have ground clearance and folding issues. The frames are all the same, so non-electric G-Line has the tabs for the Brompton-derailleur. * „What about the Rohloff Speedhub?“ The speedhub allows for much higher input torque and thereby grants lower climbing gears compared to Shimano’s Alfine hubs. But the Speedhub comes with its own issues, starting with, * the price * minimum brake disc size of 160mm, but there seems to be plenty of room for adapting the G-Line’s brake to that * the necessary torque support. It looks like the G-Line has replaceable dropouts, so the neatest solution would be a custom Speedhub-compatible dropout („OEM“-style), or the large torque arm that connects to the frame via clamp. In both cases, it is unclear whether the frame is strong enough to take the forces. Will Brompton provide an official approval?

I have a DIY conversion of an M3 that in bare bones setup came in at 12Kg, with a 5Ahr battery which is fine for my local trips. In full setup mode, with mudguards, rear rack, omni wheels, marathon plus tyres, toolkit, tube and battery lights, its just over 14Kg. On my setup the battery stays in place on the front carrier block when folded, which is super convenient for rolling around shops etc. Whilst I very much like the idea of the G line with larger wheels and better handling, I am not sure I would want to cope with the hassle of removing the battery bag every time you want to fold it.

Not too bad. About what I was expecting. $3500 is still better than a car with potential payments or repair bills. Cheers! Can't wait to hear more about the G-lines as they officially release in the coming months

Your comment about the drag on the hub motor is interesting. I sent an email to brompton to find out if it was a Mahle hub. Seeing as you experienced a lot of drag it's probably a different hub. Mahle hubs are known for not dragging to badly and are very popular in Europe. The salsa confluence has a Malay 35 plus and supposedly it runs very smoothly with the power off.

    r/Brompton · G-Line Electric leasecontract

    r/Brompton · Electric G line vs C Line: Comfort?

Questions fréquentes

Quelle autonomie peut-on espérer ?
