Tapo C425

Tapo C425, packshot

    r/TpLink · C425 Not taking charge

    r/Tapo · Stuck between C325WB and C425...

The image isn't the problem, it's the battery management... It picks up slower, has a smaller trigger field and the IR isn't as crisp. I own both (and several other models) and it's funny I think the cheaper tapos are better my absolute favorite is C120

    r/Tapo · Delay in recording trigger C425

I have a pretty big mixbag of tapos (I've got rid of all but one Eufy, because tapo don't make a 4g camera, and I can't throw wifi to the end of my drive which is 1.5km from my house) I'm on 26 acres with a small lodge (8 buildings) so I have a lot of ground to cover. Weirdly I'm most impressed with the C120 it's a wired indoor/outdoor USB-c cam. Next fav is the C310 outdoor barrel 12v it's actually a little toooo sensitive, and rain and wind in the trees will set it off. I like the C210 indoor pan and tilt barrel 12v but I've had them go offline more than I'd like... I admit that might me a me problem as they are all situated on the edge of my 2.4gz wifi coverage. The ones I don't love are the C410 and the C425 that I have in places I haven't run 12v/USB to... Even on solar panels, set to max sensitivity they are too conservative and don't catch as much as I'd like and at the same time send too much erroneous notifications 🙄 So I'm working out which of those to upgrade in time. Hope that helps

    r/Tapo · Stuck between C325WB and C425...

Look every use case is different.... Mine is in a very annoying dark area and it has an issue switching to night mode... I manually turn on the light to trigger the IR or it forgets that's an option. I find the notifications slower than the wired one I have despite being on the same access point 🤷🏻‍♀️ Because it's on a corner of the driveway, it struggles with the timing and often misses the front 2 ft of a car and so I don't get a plate which is the WHOLE POINT... So it's not reliable, but it gives me a heads up and until I can get a wired situation 200m from the house it's my only option (kind of, I have one last Eufy on 4g at the top of the drive, but that's nearly 1km from the house and it's utter shit... I can't wait to be rid of Eufy)

r/Tapo · Getting out max out of 8 Outdoor cameras + 2x doorbell

If it costs less to get SD cards for each camera than an H500 hub, get SD cards. You can turn detection to the max but not send notifications if you don’t mind using a lot of space. Battery cameras use PIR and it detects best if something is moving directly across it and not towards it

    r/Tapo · Charging time for c425 and c460

I have C460 connected to A201 (USB C) and C425 connected to A200 (Micro USB) just because of the plug interface. As long as your camera can see the sun (ie not below anything), time is not a concern.

    r/Tapo · C425 Sound Activation?

Tapo C425 only supports Motion Detection, Person Detection, Pet Detection, and Vehicle Detection. There is no sound detection. It is not uncommon for some dogs to go nutso when left home alone. A friend of mine had the nicest and quietest dog. But when left alone the dog would start barking incessantly and tearing up furniture. Everyone found this hard to believe the dog was tearing up the furniture until they placed a video camera in their home. Then they found the dog was also continuously barking. I have also seen episodes on cesar milan “dog whisperer” where he was addressing this problem of the dog barking when left alone. Just plug your 425 into the charger so it is continuously charging. Then turn on pet detection and motion detection and set the sensitivity to high and place the camera where the dog is most likely to be barking. Enable audio recording. This should give you some insight on what your dog is doing You should believe your neighbor, they gain nothing by inventing this story. The c120 camera has dog barking detection built in, but i have not tried it. It is about $30

    r/Tapo · C425 Cameras - Toggle on/off as a set/group

Just make either an automation or shortcut. If you make a shortcut, you need to make two shortcuts; one to enable privacy mode on all cameras and one to disable privacy mode on all cameras. Then you would just tap one of the shortcuts in the app to turn on/off all the cameras. You could also mount a tapo switch somewhere. Then create an automation that enables/disables privacy mode on all the cameras when the switch is tapped. The s200d is a nice switch for this because it requires no wiring (it has a battery) and it can easily be mounted using its magnetic attachment or two sided adhesive. But the s200d also requires you purchase the h200 hub. You can use any tapo switch to run the automation Automations and shortcuts are easy to create once you have done it a few times. It would take about one minute to create in the app.

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

I have one camera c425 with batteries. There is lots of optimization possible in the app to reduce battery drain. I disable “motion detection” as it was causing all kinds of false detections. I just use person and vehicle detection

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

A couple of points. Your camera is always ingesting/digesting data while not in privacy mode. The only way to cut battery consumption is to either go into privacy mode or lower sensitivity. So if your camera is not in privacy mode, it is draining the battery. You want to record people and vehicles always. The simple way to do this is to turn on people and vehicle detection on the camera interface. Do not enable pet detection. Now create an AUTOMATION to detect pets. You should know that whenever this automation is enabled or “turned on”, the automation will work. And whenever this automation is disabled or “turned off”, the automation will not function or process data. So next you use the shortcuts i have already described to enable/disable the pet detection automation. I think you are not understanding what happens by enabling/disabling automations. It provides exactly the function you are requesting

    r/Tapo · C425 vs C460 Compare

I have a c425. There is lots of options for cables, ac adapters, metal plates available on Amazon. I know because I chose to use a different power supply and cable because I wanted a longer cable than provided … so I ended up purchasing a longer cable and a 12 v supply (the c425 works well with a 12 v supply). As far as metal plates, I have purchased many from Amazon for various uses. I do not understand what you want in magnet mounts because the c425 comes with a magnet mount that works well

    r/Tapo · C425 Cameras - Toggle on/off as a set/group

Here is a sample of an automation with two separate actions. It could just as well be 3 actions with one for each camera https://preview.redd.it/9fbtbp45xqbf1.jpeg?width=757&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b792e6e64756f7924229410e8eecac4216f44657

    r/Tapo · C425 Cameras - Toggle on/off as a set/group

You need to select “individual device” … choose the first camera and disable or enable. Then Add a second action in the same automation and select the 2nd camera. Then repeat for the third … i know it is not intuitive but it works. In the end you only have one automation with 3 actions

    r/TpLink · Tapa C425 Focus Capabilities

In order to limit the number of false detections, i had to turn off motion detection and pet detection and only use person detection. The problem with motion detection, is it is just looking at a percentage of pixels that have changed frame to frame. So light changes, small movements in leaves and branches can trigger an event. In your case, if you are only looking to view birds very near the bird house, you can set the detection zone so it only looks at the bird house … that would eliminate a lot of false detections due to the surrounding environment. I have no experience with the solar option and have no idea how much current it can supply. My guess is that you are wanting the enjoyment of watching the birds either live or in playback … I suspect then you will be disappointed in how long the battery lasts because the battery is not big enough to watch the feed for extended periods.

    r/TpLink · Tapa C425 Focus Capabilities

You can get a sharp image down to 3 or 4 feet. But I am not sure the c425 is a good choice if only using battery. The battery drains quickly if motion is turning it on often (more than 8 or 9 times per day) , or if you are wanting to view video streams often. In my backyard the battery would last several months since it was only triggered a few times per day and I would only view video streams when I received a surprise notification. In my front yard the battery could run down in 24 hours because there was so much action.

r/Tapo · Question about privacy mode

You might be able to filter out some of the AI detections … I turned off motion detection completely because person detection has always worked for me. Motion detection is just looking at the number of pixels changing anywhere from frame to frame and can create lots of false triggers. Person detection is looking for pixel changes in groupings from frame to frame and generates fewer false detections for me. You can also look at your detection zones … I had a palm tree causing detections in the wind so I configured my detection zones to exclude the tree

r/Tapo · Question about privacy mode

Well, i would do the soft reboot from the app. It does not erase any of your settings, so there is nothing to lose. Then I would fully charge and see what happens. If it is only being triggered a few times per day your battery should last more than 6 months in my experience (when it is running normally). Mine actually ran 8 months … i had recharged mine, went on an extended trip and halfway through the trip it started draining 9 or 10 % per day with only 2 or 3 daily triggers. It returned to normal after the soft reboot. One thing you need to be aware of, just you accessing your camera and watching live feeds uses significant battery life … so after recharge and having it set like you want, don’t overdo your live feeds unless you need to. When I was trying to solve my problem, i made it worse by checking the cam too often

r/Tapo · Question about privacy mode

If you dig down into the C425 settings in the Tapo app, you can view data showing how many event triggers (and type of trigger) for the last day. That will help you understand how often each camera is triggered. You can also view a graph of the battery drain history. I found this very helpful to set the camera up so it was not overly triggering. All that said, I found my C425 battery draining rapidly once… i enabled privacy mode … and I could see that there was zero motion triggers after that. Unplugging and repowering the camera did not fix the problem. I was finally able to fix the problem by going into the app and doing a software reboot. The battery drain returned to normal after that.

    r/Tapo · Tapo D225 and C425 batteries drained in a day

C425: You need to go into the app, and you will be able to see exactly how many times per hour the camera is waking up for the last 24 hours. It may be triggered more often than you realize. I have a 425 that has excellent battery life if not triggered excessively. BUT, I had an instance where I was traveling and the battery started draining very fast. Looking into the app history, I could see that the camera was not being triggered to wake up. This camera is positioned in a space that has very low traffic. Eventually, I went into the app and forced a camera reboot. This fixed the fast drainage problem for me and the camera worked normally again. I have no experience with the 225

I'm using one C425, but with solar panel. The panel is facing south (northern hemisphere) and the whole set has been working great since last October. The battery stays always fully charged even after several days of cloudy sky or rain. Sensor performance seems OK, but I should add that the place the camera is installed in is very quiet.

r/Tapo · Best video monitor to watch C425 camera?

The H500 will work with a monitor/TV as it has an HDMI port. https://www.tp-link.com/ca/home-networking/smart-hub/tapo-h500/#specifications As your cameras are battery based, they will still time out in the app and need to be constantly refreshed. The H500 does not have that limitation according to the documentation as they will only display when there is motion. Again, I did say "easy". Replacing your cameras with powered wifi cameras or even POE will give you far more flexibility, but that is far more complex.

r/Tapo · Tapo C425 camera not walking up or detecting activity

It should be able to wake at a longer range than that, especially with a maximum sensitivity setting. Since the camera is triggered by the PIR sensor, is there any chance of IR interference on your street, or of streetlights within the camera's Field-of-View, that could cause only larger movements to be detected? Lastly, what angle is your camera mounted at? PIR sensors are far better at detecting movement going *across* the cameras 'view' as compared to directly at it.

r/Tapo · I will never purchase another TP product and neither should you

Would you happen to have the TKID for our team to take a look at? Most of the time, problems with solar connections are due to the physical connection, as the weatherproofing can make the power cable appear properly fitted, even though it may be offset and actually pushing the cable out. Is your camera still charging? If it is, it may just be that the camera is waking up far too often and needs settings adjustment. From the C425s device settings, you should be able to find a menu for power/battery/solar settings, where you should be able to see battery usage vs charging. The camera also has features in place to allow it to drain 'x' amount before starting to charge - potentially preventing the camera from overcharging or harming the overall life. As for the return policy, I think that you are looking at our official store's policy for regular store returns. If there is something determined to be defective or non-operational with your device, it would fall under our larger TP-Link Warranty and RMA Policy / Process ([https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/replacement-warranty/](https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/replacement-warranty/))

r/Tapo · question about using a hub (h200) and change networks (wifi)

It may be possible in the future, but nothing that we have available right now - and its actually a key point of the Simple Setup technology currently being developed by our teams. Currently, only the sensors that connect solely to the hub will work with no issues. For your wi-fi devices, bringing your home router would allow your devices to connect at the new location. Otherwise, configuring your next home's wifi with the same credentials as your current home would allow the devices to reconnect. There is always the possibility in this case that the devices may see it as a different network and need reconfiguration, but I had nearly every Tapo/Kasa device transition when I did this last month. If your next router supports an IoT network, you could consider doing what I did and setting the IoT network to use your older network settings, that way you can slowly transition your everyday devices over to your main networks.

r/Tapo · Moving from Arlo Pro 3 to something Tapo?

    * Hub Recording from Wi-Fi cameras is a new feature and its model compatibility is currently rapidly expanding to accommodate the announcements from CES (NVR and H500). * Of the models listed, I believe only the C425 has been updated with the ability to record to an H200 so far. * Hubs Should Also Be on the Same Local Network as the Camera and Within a Reasonable Wireless Range * Devices can be at different physical locations, and the Tapo App allows you to create a second 'Home' * The C425 is still a Battery camera and its recording is largely developed around event detection. If you are looking for 24/7 recording, the C325WS or C510 is what you are looking for. — With or without a hub, the experience is seamless and nearly identical. Right now, the only advantage to using an H200 with non-sub g cameras is to take advantage of hub-based recordings, and the ability to use the hub's wi-fi as a fallback connection, in case your wi-fi goes out. When the H500 does come out, we will see facial recognition, networked storage, and much more added to cameras that connect to it. We should learn of compatibility in the coming weeks, but so far it sounds that it is pretty expansive and will cover a huge variety of models. tl;dr H500/Camera Compatibility is still expanding and is still new; All Cameras from Tapo will provide a seamless experience - no matter their connection method; the upcoming hubs just add more flexibility to cameras and will improve their detection features.

r/Tapo · Moving from Arlo Pro 3 to something Tapo?

C425 is a *Battery* Wi-Fi Camera with No Hub Required - Basically Everything is Onboard. The C420/C405 and other cameras listed as Sub-G are Hub-Based cameras. The hubs are relatively affordable and can help to connect the cameras at the edge of your wi-fi and will store the clips on the hub, rather than the camera. (it also adds support for sub-g sensors) For Hardwired Cameras, you could use solar or power the C425 - but you would ideally look at the cameras built for that purpose, something like the C3XX or C5XX series of Outdoor Cameras - which are designed to have constant power and provide 24/7 recording.

r/Tapo · More camera compatibility with the H200 hub

100% Planning to Expand its Compatibility! The C425 was the very first to receive the feature last month and compatibility should follow for the other C4XX cameras first. Based on observations, I would anticipate the feature being focused on battery-wifi cameras first - as the wired cameras such as the C120 have extra features such as 24/7 recording to deal with and RTSP to accommodate most external recording needs. Saying that, keep an eye on the upcoming Tapo Hubs (H500/H900). These are now getting closer to a release. When they were announced, they supported RTSP and ONVIF, along with multi-TB storage options, so it could operate as an NVR of sorts - but there hasn't been enough info given to make a determination.

    r/Tapo · C425 always going offline

From my experience, this would point towards some sort of issue in the network connection and may not be signal strength but how the device interacts on your network. Depending on your router/network, you should see if you can disable any features in your router settings such as Fast Roaming or Beamforming that are not needed/used by the camera. Also. try setting an IP Reservation for the devices in case the connection is being lost whenever that IP is refreshed. Lastly, is it possible you have two routers on your network or your ISP Gateway is operating as a router? Having two routers hand out IP addresses from two different pools of addresses; these conflicting addresses would then cause the behavior you are seeing. Saying that, given the LED Status and its difficulty of access, I would recommend reaching out to our support teams where they can work with you to find the cause and provide a solution. Side Note: The C425v1 received an update recently allowing the camera to switch between the network of an H200 hub and your home Wi-Fi - providing a backup connection in case one or the other fails. Also, our most recent hardware versions and cameras have been transitioning to use USB-C over Micro USB.

r/Tapo · C425, what happens when wifi goes down?

I believe that your assumptions are correct. With an SD card on the device, the camera will continue to record and detect events even when your wireless network goes down. The device should then automatically reconnect to the network when it comes back, where you can view any of the footage on the camera. If just your internet goes out, you will still be able to see and control the device from the Tapo App, as long as your phone is connected to the same Wireless network.

Battery powered doorbells rarely catch anything of use. Best option is another camera on a Christmas tree outlet or some other outlet at an angle towards the door. That way 1) 24x7 recording, 2) less likely to get seen during a crime, criminals first look is to a doorbell cam 3) powered cameras do considerably better at detection, battery ones have to wake from sleep and have inferior detection sensors. Other option is to put a battery camera out of sight at an angle and still do the h500 hub. Tapo c425 is an excellent wireless battery camera. Plus they have strong spotlights to deter an individual.

r/Tapo · Which Tapo battery camera is the best??

First and foremost, they don't record 24/7 otherwise they'll run out of battery real quick; they only do event detection recording on a specific range that you can customize. I have 3 tapo cameras C425, one for the front yard gate, one for the driveway and one at the backyard; for the price and what I need them to do, they do a decent job in capturing events but they might happen to miss recording like someone walking and in plain detection range yet not captured. A very important element with these cameras is their proximity to your internet router; the closer they are to the router, the better but even that these cameras tend to have a mind of their own. There was an update a couple of months ago for the C425 that improvement their wifi stability overall.

r/Tapo · Which Tapo battery camera is the best??

The "No recording" is an issue I had with one my 3 cams. Funny thing at least for me was that on the app, you can clearly see the snapshot thumbnail but there is no actual footage and at times when I would walk at detection range of the cam, the cam would say something about SD card needing formatting. In my case, the SD card was somehow corrupted. I had to format it and then the problem disappeared. As for the noise, I am yet to encounter that specific issue.

I use 3 C425 wireless outdoor with a TP-link wifi extender and they work just great for what I need them to do honestly. When I had just bought the cams, the wi-fi range was pretty horrible; but after I got the extender and moved the main router, I now have very good reception.

Same. I have a c425 attached to a solar panel with the sensitivity turned up as high as it will go and it's really good at picking up my cat as soon as he enters the frame, but waits until a person is 2/3 the way into the frame before it starts recording. I also have the random offline issue. The firmware updated recently and it mentions wifi stability so I guess we'll see. It's hit or miss. Kinda wish I just bought a solar panel for my arlo cams. Would have been cheaper.

    r/Tapo · C425 always going offline

I purchased 2 in October '24, had both setup and "working" by November. They've generally been fine (although, detection seems to be subpar compared to the Arlo Pro 4 they replaced) up until the last week or so. All the sudden they constantly go offline and have completely stopped detecting motion completely. Haven't had any events in 2 days. Guess I have to wast my time going through the reset process for both. Annoying. Already regretting the purchase.

    r/Tapo · Positive experiences with the C425?

Battery issues depend entirely on your location. Mine has a solar panel and covers my back garden. There's a public path that's used every couple hours by somebody and it will pick them up. On a windy day, if I have my washing out to dry it will record basically 24/7 because of motion triggers but it was charged back up the next day after removing the washing from the line. Don't expect it to pick up pets, it rarely detects my cats in the garden. Person detection i'd say is accurate to the 10ft they say.

r/Tapo · How to really make leaving/coming home automation work for C210 cameras?

I have a TAPO C425. My leaving/coming home automation works for a while, then just stops working. Initially, adjusting the location perimeter seemed to improve its performance, but the automation then just stops functioning after a few days. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S23, with battery optimization for TAPO set to unrestricted and location set to precise. When the automation fails, I've tried toggling it off and on again or recreating the automation, which temporarily resolves the issue for a few days only. Quite frustrating.

r/Tapo · Moving from Arlo Pro 3 to something Tapo?

They do not require a Tapo Hub but obviously they do need a wireless internet connection. The C245 can be charged indoors and used wirelessly (i.e. you discount the camera and bring it inside for charging, then mount it outside again) or you can get the matching solar panel kit which will allow you to keep the camera charged as long as there's sun in the spot you're placing the camera. https://uk.store.tapo.com/products/tc82-kit-solar-powered-security-camera-kit For my personal preference, I wouldn't install an outdoor camera that needed to be charged, I would want the power hardwired in. So I would likely go for the Tapo C720 which has floodlights, or get the solar panel kit for the C245.

In the detection menu, under the Wake-Up Sensitivity there should be an option for a detection range test. I would use this test in conjunction with the Diagnostics that is located in the advanced menu. Using these two tools together you can generate logs about your camera. Then send those logs via the Feedback option also in the camera's menus. This should help engineering analyze and determine if there is something they can do. I have these cameras as well and while I have had a few hiccups here and there they have mostly been reliable.

r/Tapo · Got screwed by Tapo and Amazon. Avoid the C425, and avoid Tapo.

I've complained bitterly about my experience with the 2 I bought from Amazon too. Mine don't record beyond 10 feet, and sometimes miss detecting people all together. Went Tapo the videos though they did agree to replace them. It just wasn't feasible for me to do so (Based in the Caribbean) so I would have to pay to ship them back to the US, and then pay local customs again to reimport the new cameras. But yea, mine got bricked too, but thankfully was able to get them running after about an hour of resetting and readding. Sorry to hear about your issue bud

    r/Tapo · Offline system

Hey there, I'm not very techy, so forgive me as I attempt to help where I can. I have some Tapo cameras and even when I lose internet due to an outage, I can still monitor through the Tapo app (once my phone or tablet is on the same network as the cameras)... So I would THINK that it would work if viewed locally. I have C110, C120 and C425. They all show, and my network is made up with a bunch of Eero devices. Can't answer to whether it will run on a the Android TV, sorry. None of the camera models that I have, have an audio specific port, but the quality is decent. My C120's are far from the action, but the C110's and C425's and very clear with audio.

r/TpLink · Battery vs Plug In Camera - My short experience

Two things to keep in mind from my experience 1. They only record motion, so you can't scroll back to look for a specific time-frame unless motion was detected (whether you have an SD card or not) 2. You might miss a second or two before the camera starts recording, unlike your other wired cameras. I'd also love to hear from others.

r/Tapo · Got screwed by Tapo and Amazon. Avoid the C425, and avoid Tapo.

Oh, that's great that they work for you. They don't for me. I've been through the detection settings even with support, and they can't seem to understand why both of my c425's don't detect anything beyond 10 feet. I just consider it a loss. I have other wired Tapo cameras in those areas so that's a workaround. Thanks for trying to assist though. Appreciate it

r/Tapo · Got screwed by Tapo and Amazon. Avoid the C425, and avoid Tapo.

Thanks for the info Carl, but even your tech support team couldn't fix my issue. A ton of people have legitimate detection issues with this model camera, and I unfortunately am just one of them. Angle and getting are at the required positions and complete motion (someone walking by) is still sometimes missed.

r/Tapo · Got screwed by Tapo and Amazon. Avoid the C425, and avoid Tapo.

I didn't. They're still outside acting as deterrents more than anything. Too costly to return and not worth it. They did offer to change to a different model though for the equivalent price but I had to decline for the preview reason. I have 2 other weird cams so the c425's are freaky just back up cameras.

As I said, TP-Link bricked two of my new cameras with a firmware update. Support admitted that the update bricked the devices. The devices were two weeks old. Does that sound like anything that TP-Link might be responsible for? TP-Link promised to replace the units, but did not. r/Tapo · Tapo camera recording outside activity zone? (Possible hit-and-run)

If it really is the C425 model, then BoBSMITHtheBR is correct. It is a battery or solar camera and those do not support 24/7 continuous recording because the battery would die way too fast. Unfortunately, if the movement stayed entirely outside your defined Activity Zone, the camera would not have triggered a wake up to save that clip to your SD card or the Cloud. One thing you should check just in case is your Detection settings. See if you have General Motion Detection enabled alongside your Activity Zones. Sometimes, if that is on, it might have captured a generic motion event even if it was not flagged as a vehicle in your specific zone. If there is nothing in your playback timeline for that exact time, then the footage likely does not exist. I am really sorry to hear about the accident and I hope you can find another way to get the info you need. Regards and I really hope you get this sorted. Also would a neighbour have a random camera that might have caught it? Best,

And I think I was just unlucky with the replacement I had! 🤦🏻‍♀️

    r/TpLink · Unable to reset TAPO C425

Oh god!! I’m so sorry this has happened to you too! Major design flaw I feel!! So the short answer is no, sadly nothing worked. So I tried to contact my retailer (Argos) to get a replacement. But they wanted me to do a full return (which I couldn’t do, because I can’t take the solar panel off the wall as it was only the camera unit that was faulty!) I ended up going round in circles. So I contacted TAPO Support back and they were actually really helpful and they sent a replacement out for me. You have options with them too. You can send the faulty unit back, then they will send out the replacement. Or alternatively like me, I couldn’t be without my camera so I paid for special replacement shipping where you effectively pay the amount the unit costs like a holding deposit, they send it straight out then once you get it and set it all up, you then send them the faulty one back and once they receive it they release the holding deposit. If that makes sense!! - I hope it does! My advice is contact TAPO Support, give them a call and explain the situation. They are also pretty responsive on email and chat too! I hope this helps and you manage to get it sorted! 🩵

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

Also seems we have different use case scenarios. The 2 cameras I see for you are indoor cameras that you switch privacy mode OFF/ON. I'm using 1 battery camera without privacy mode.

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

I've tried this. It doesn't work. You can not automate motion detection on/off. If I set detection to just vehicles and people. Then, create an automation to tell it to text me a pet notification. It won't because pet motion detection is still off, so it won't ever detect a pet. Therefore, never sending a text. My dogs will be out there all day, and it won't record or notify me of a single pet detection. I'll get a few false person detections caused by my dogs. Please show me the automation screen where you enable just pet detection. I'm begging you sincerely. Have you played with the actual home/away modes? Because they give the exact control I want. It just can't be automated or even scheduled. A Google search will show you people have been asking for this for years.

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

I don't think you understand. I want the ability to automate the "actual" motion detection. Not notifications. Privacy mode stops everything. I just want to turn off certain motion detections, like pets, while still detecting and notifying me of the others. I want it to record people and vehicles while home. All 3 when I'm away. That way, I can schedule that automation and never have to worry about it. Unless I'm misunderstanding you, your way only stops the notification. It will still detect a pet and record it because i can't actually turn off certain detection unless it's in the home/away mode, which can't be automated.

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

So you have motion detectors that isn't the camera? I'm talking about motion detection on the cameras. The home/away mode is the only shortcut that I know of that can change motion detection. I have home only detector people and vehicles. That way, my dogs don't set them off nonstop. That drains battery. Away is set for people, vehicles, and pets. That way, if one of my dogs gets loose, the notion is detected as a pet, and I get notified. This is why you will find people wanting to be able to automate the home/away modes so much, but Tapo seems unable to do so as it's been asked avout for years.

r/Tapo · Tapo cameras - home and away automations

This only works for notifications, though. Not motion detection. It's why everyone wants to be able to automate the home and away modes. Those can control trol motion detection.

Similar problem here. I use the camera to watch my second residence. From time to time is disconnected and one week later It is connected again. But the battery level is always between 90% and 100% so no battery low level problem. When this happens I usually connect to the router and I can see that the camera is still connected as client to the wifi network. The other cameras (tapo wired or imou wifi) don't have this problem. I have tried to reboot the router remotely but this does't fix the problem. Then a few days later the camera goes live again.

C425 working fine for almost a year UNTIL today when I plugged in a new A200 Solar Panel. It would not charge even when it certainly should have (lots of sun). I pugged the camera 's wall charger in and it still would not charge. The camera was operating normally in all other ways. I powered the camera off and back on and voila it all good. Sadly this makes sense in this world we live in.

    r/Tapo · C425 solar kit - not impressed

The solar/battery powered cameras are not reliable in detection and recording compared to wired ones. I think it's because the 'actual camera' is off to save battery and only starts recording when the sensor detects an event, and what's worse is the sensor can only detect a motion at maximum 4-5 meters, which is half of what they claimed in product marketing. So the footage will always starts when the subject is already in the middle of the video and also stopped recording when the motion sensor stopped detecting at specific distance even though subject is still in camaera field of view. These cameras only good for small distance surveillance.

I have 5 of those. 2 are perfect and always above 95%, no matter the amount of triggers or recordings (they are the most triggered out of all). The other 2 are ok'ish but drain fast and still charge to max until the end of the day, or almost max out. 1 is just annoying and even though there are almost no triggers, it takes forever to charge and during the night it drops about 15/20%, with no recordings, it's also the closest to the router. They are all set to Max performance, range, sensitivity, all triggers, etc. They all have the panels pointed directly to the sun and are placed on my roof top with nothing in the way, they are all exposed to max time in the sun. The only difference was that I bought them in different months in like 2, 2, 1. My guess is that different batches have different performances... My suggestion is: return it or buy another and test it during the return phase, or even just buy another and return the old one in the other box if support is useless 🙃

I have the same setup. Have had it running for 2 weeks at my front door. The only issue so far has been the SD card. Sometimes there are chunks of time not recorded knowing there had been activity and people coming and going. It’s New York and there’s nonstop pedestrians and vehicles. I’m pretty sure it’s just an issue with the SD card because when I reformat it the issues subside. I also reboot the camera every so often when something seems wonky and seems to help.

r/reolinkcam · Detection and Recording Issues – NEW Argus 4 Pro Camera

I honestly can’t figure out which model to choose, and this whole situation feels kind of absurd. I mean… humanity went to the moon, but we still don’t have an efficient solar-powered camera that just works. Right now, I’m looking into the only Atlas options I can find: 1. **Reolink Atlas PT Ultra** – but I’ve read several reviews saying the battery life is too short. 2. **Reolink Atlas** – but this one only has a 90° FOV, compared to the 180° on my Argus 4 Pro, which feels like a big downgrade. My setup is a house in the mountains, where I’d really like to rely on a solar panel since I don’t want to run wired power. But maybe, given my needs, wired power is the only realistic solution? What’s even more confusing is that I have a cheap $30 iGeek solar camera that actually detects people reliably, while my $200 Argus 4 Pro misses them. That makes no sense to me. I was also considering the **Tapo C425**, which has a 135° FOV, but if it relies on PIR for detection, then it’s the same old problem and nothing changes. 👉 Do you have any recommendation for a better model (Reolink or another brand) that could solve this, or do I really just need to invest in wired power?

Just to add to this as I found this post helpful, I had similar issues with my camera \[C425\]: disconnecting especially when I reset my router and also taking ages to discover my wireless network when resetting the camera. I turned off a setting called 'Band Steering' on my wireless router which automatically guides a device to the most suitable Wi-Fi band (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz). I thought I would need to reset the camera to see if this would work but got side-tracked and about 15 minutes later I noticed I was getting notifications from the camera again as it had found the network and reconnected. No issues about 48hrs since so seems to have fixed the problem. Hope that helps others!

Tapo C460 (4K) would be sharp enough to see detail, it’s actually one of the cheapest but best quality wireless security cameras as of right now, other than PoE. Though I’m not sure about recommending this due to your lack of WiFi coverage, 4K quality may not load very well. I will say with the solar panel this camera does do 24/7 recording without having to plug into a wall outlet. Another option is the C425, the older flagship that’s still good today. 2K, motion, etc. I currently have 2 TC82’s and have had zero issues on them with false detection alerts or no detection alerts, they record everything that’s needed.

I really think it would be in TP Links best interest to give us the functionality and just put a disclaimer that battery life can't be guaranteed. I bought this camera knowing I specifically needed fully wireless and had good sunlight. It was the perfect fit for the rest of my tapo setup and I'm finding out I'm just not allowed to? This unit does not plug in. If it had an "Always On" feature, it would be "Always Discharged". The solar charger cannot charge real time. It has to have "downtime" or it will never keep up. That's the nature of solar panels, especially small ones trying to run 2K HD color video with nighttime adjustments. Make sense? What you want is a wired solution that always has power available to allow "Always On" functionality. It requires an electrician to run ethernet for a Power over Ethernet (PoE) setup. Then you can plug the cameras into a central hub/switch/router.

    r/Tapo · Tapo D225 and C425 batteries drained in a day

I don't have much data since I just installed it and had to leave town. So I only have the first day where it died, but I can look into it further. For some reason it has 38 minutes of "Time of Use" even on the lowest settings and the area isn't that high traffic, so I'm not really sure. But compare that to another identical cam I have in another area that got 15 minutes of Time of use and is still at 100%. Idk things just don't add up to me. Haven't tried rebooting them or anything like that so I'll have to try that.

    r/Tapo · Tapo C425 and D225 high battery drain

Ah, that would maybe make sense. All my cameras look at reasonably high traffic areas yet one is still at 100% so idk if that's it. Although the doorbell and camera that are draining fast are looking at the same spot. I do have them on the highest quality and fps as well. Doorbell is on only wake when button is pressed. I put the motion sensitivity down to the lowest even though motion detection is disabled. I don't use the spotlight, only ir, which idk if it's on all night or only when something is detected. Didn't set any privacy zones. Network connection on both shows as 3 bars though in not quite sure I believe it; the camera that isn't draining as fast as closer to my router. I might consider putting a WiFi repeater or something even though I hate using them. One camera is connected to a solar panel but idk if it does much.

u/Riley_TP-Link I also have the serious issues with my camera. Basically, it doesn't work. My C425 camera has the latest firmware, connected to the WiFi from the Asus GT6 unit standing next to it and still - the only way to make it work is to press and hold for a second or two the power button. My cellphone and the camera are on the same WiFi network. I'm not using any "smart connect" mode that combines all the 2.4, 5G networks together, so it's a dedicated WiFi network. The internet connection is perfect, no packet loss or high pings whatsoever. I tried to completely reset it and re-add into the app, but the problem persists. Without pressing the power button the camera is reported as "offline" by the TAPO app, no LED, nothing. I cannot find anything that says "power save" mode in its settings. The camera is working in the "performance" mode though, but I cannot wake it up without pressing the button. It's an absurd situation where I need to physically press something on the camera to make it work for the next \~10 minutes. Definitely, the worst home security camera I've ever had.

    r/Tapo · C425 always going offline

I bought several C425 to replace some C420s less than a year ago. Solar powered. The 425 have wider FOV than the 420s, so I get more coverage. The 425s keep randomly disconnecting from WiFi, sometimes requiring switching them on/off to get them back online. This has never happened with the C420s that connect via a Tapo hub. I tried tinkering with the router, to ensure the problem was not there. I don’t think it’s there, as all other tapo devices on the same network (420s, 320ws, hubs, temp, sensors) maintain their connection all the time. I have around 10 cameras, three of which are C425. It’s only the 425 that disconnect and remain disconnected. In one of the latest firmware and software updates I found a hidden option on the 425s that allow them to connect to a hub, rather than WiFi, whenever the connection fails. This is really hidden in the camera menu. Seems to instruct the 425 to look for a hub whenever they fail to maintain WiFi connection. I have not seen an announcement of this feature, but the guys at TAPO clearly know there is something really wrong with their 425 WiFi connections. I am going to try this next. Not a fan of experiments, as I the cameras are in a property I can only visit every two months. Anyone has tried this?

The issue is that if I stand there, the camera PIR does not detect me. The distance from the camera is around 19 ft (6m). I can stand there and move around like crazy and it doesn't detect anything. Isn't the PIR supposed to be better than that? Would another camera fare better and the Tapo ones are just a super short range?

    r/Tapo · C425 always going offline

I know this was a month ago, but I just bought three cameras and I am seeing the same issue. Just replaced some older ones made by zumimall because I know TP-Link as a reputable brand and was looking for better motion detection and battery life for the place I want it mounted. Wifi all over my house is strong, never had issues with the older zumimall cameras, but these c425's keep going offline. Was hoping the update would help. Come on tp link.... What the heck? Battery is cool, but step up the game with the wifi. These would be awesome if they didn't go offline all the time.

Friend ive installed the camera and everything works perfectly but one feature i cant understand, you hold the voice button and you can talk through the camera, ok clear enough, but whats the use of the voice call mode? I use the voice call mode and it says that i am in call but my wife cant here me when i speak but when my wife tries to use it also it says that the line is busy, so whats exactly the use of that feature?

    r/TpLink · Tapo C425 - No Always On Mode?

Amazon product info says these cameras support RTSP/ONVIF so I ordered 2 with the Solar option to add to my Blue Iris setup. Ugh. Now I have to return and buy AC powered cams or something else POE. Disappointing, but my past negative experience with tp-link products (wifi plugs) should have been considered.

I have three of them and only the one often goes offline for a few minutes and then comes back online every now and then. Incredibly frustrating. And it's not network related as I've moved them all around and it's only the one that has issues. Also - microUSB is unacceptable in 2024.

Mine goes offline as well (appears in the offline clients list) of my Deco router however when I view the details of the client it says it is connected to the Deco. Also if I view the camera and any recordings it seems to respond fairly quickly. So I can't fully tell if is "offline" or not.

r/TpLink · C425 not picking up night activity

That [Starlight Night Vision](https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/667186) basically just turn on the spot light when the camera detects motion. But it is the PIR sensor that wakes the camera up to do all these thing, so if coyote is far enough for the PIR not to detect it, the camera won't even turn on in the first place for recording.

    r/TpLink · Tapo c425 detection recording

Same thing here.. it only starts recording when the PIR sensor senses motion (not pixel changes). So if the car is far away enough for the camera to see it, but if the PIR cannot detect it, it will still not record.

    r/TpLink · Issues with Tapo C425 cameras

I am going to try this next. I am having same issue. Had C420 cameras with solar panels. They worked just fine for months. Changed the C420 for C425s with solars, wanted the expanded FOV. Connected to same 2.4Ghz WiFi networks as previous cameras - other TP devices.   The C425s work fine for a couple of days, then disconnect and never reconnect again. Other c420s on the network remain connected.

    r/TpLink · Tapo C425 - No Always On Mode?

I get it but we should have some option when plugged in. Also having additional PIR sensors which can trigger video recording is a fair ask, consumers will be happy and company will sell lots of additional T100

    r/TpLink · Tapo C425 - No Always On Mode?

Extremely disappointed that tplink will not enable such functionality. Maybe atleast add always on if the camera is plugged in? I also gave suggestion earlier about if recording can be triggered with additional PIR sensors (T100) which will insanely help to minimize in scenarios where the camera fails to detect.

Will they ever add RTSP back? We understand battery life will be degraded. Why remove it? I would return the product if I could. I bought it and the solar panel for this reason only.

r/TpLink · can i with the tapo c425 login on other portals? (through pc)

Hey there, I bought a C425 earlier and saw on the website that RTSP was a feature, and there were threads of people using the streams with home assistant and such. I put off on setting it up at my ranch for a few months, and once I set it up recently I found that the local camera account is no longer an option due to a later firmware update. Reason seemed to be that it gives suboptimal battery life. I do have the solar panel and have abundant sunlight. I really don't get why the local camera account is not an option for those of us with external power to our cameras (a workaround might be a clear warning when trying to enable the feature that the feature will require an external power source or risk poor battery life). Sorry for the ramble, but I just felt like I had to say it since I bought this for its local network capabilities (planned to view it through a local NVR) and it seemed perfect for the job (might even be the *only* camera to even offer RTSP as an option at the time).

r/TpLink · Can a TAPO C425/TC85 do 24/7 recording to my local SD card?

Actually, I'm quite upset that it can't integrate into my NVR and Home Assistant (that need camera account). I may utilize it some place that doesn't need 24/7 recording and replace it with POE wired camera instead. For recording I'm in the middle of tuning its setting but it not too bad, (settings screen below). I also have C410 with solarcell which has the same issue that no 24/7 recording option (even with solar power). I hope TP-Link allows this option and lets users manage how often they will charge if it needs more recording period especially if they sell the KIT with solarcell. I'm happy to charge my camera monthly or less if required. https://preview.redd.it/is7qx9r79ygd1.png?width=888&format=png&auto=webp&s=a567a74bb4c6635c1a052bbde047673a72e76173

r/TpLink · Can a TAPO C425/TC85 do 24/7 recording to my local SD card?

I just got a C425 and there is no 24/7 recording option. It's currently record only when there is an event detected (human, motion, pet, vehicle). There is no camera account that allow you to connect to NVR as well. Basically, it's a battery model which record when event trigger to save battery life. You can view real-time video via their app.

    r/TpLink · Issues with Tapo C425 cameras

u/Riley_TP-Link My C425 camera has the latest firmware, connected to the WiFi from the Asus GT6 unit standing next to it and yet - the only way to make it work is to press and hold for a second or two the power button. Without that camera is reported as "offline", no LED, nothing. I cannot find anything that says "power save" mode in its settings. The camera is working in the "performance" mode though, but I cannot wake it up without pressing the button. It's an absurd situation where I need to physically press something on the camera to make it work for the next \~10 minutes. Definitely, the worst home security camera I've ever had.

r/SecurityCamera · Security camera needed for my small house under 1k AUD please

r/SecurityCamera · Security camera needed for my small house under 1k AUD please

r/Tapo · Fixed Tapo camera network issues with Asus router (Asus RT-AX86S + Tapo C101)
