    r/Tapo · Rich notifications

I don’t understand what you want to do. The cameras work just fine without that subscription. I get timely alerts from mine and I can’t really imagine what more I would need. As for cameras getting stolen…. Umm…. Don’t put them in a place where that can happen? Seems like the obvious answer to be honest. Put them higher than people will be able to reach them. That’s not a Tapo issue to be honest.

    r/Tapo · H500 hub reviews?

I just switched to Tapo from Wyze this week. Bought 4 cameras, the H500, and a wifi deadbolt. Was tired of Wyze’s subscriptions and how poorly their cameras work without them. Tapo’s camera recognition (people, vehicles, pets) without an addon subscription being necessary is huge. The H500 hub tying everything together is even more huge. It eliminates the need for cloud storage and sd cards completely and acts as a local storage server. I installed a 2tb ssd 2.5” drive, which was super simple (1 screw and plug and play for the drive) in the H500. 3 of my 4 new cameras worked out of the box (with firmware updates) with the hub, only my C260 does not, but it’s scheduled for a firmware update within the month to make it compatible. Tapo has a compatibility list on their site that lists what works now, and when updates are coming for those that don’t. The H500 also acts as hub for Tapo’s sub-g wireless sensors, which is another feature I like. I just ordered 2 of their door contact sensors to take advantage of this feature, but don’t have them yet. The hub also gives the option of adding specific face recognition to your cameras, but I haven’t used that yet. It supports wireless or wired connection to your network, I’m using a wired Ethernet connection. Setup was extremely easy. For $150 bucks, I think the hub takes your home security setup to the next level. It’s a new product, so it’s not yet compatible yet with all of their cameras (like my C260), but I’m very impressed and happy thus far. I hope this helps.

r/Tapo · AI Detection Needs To Be Redone.

I'm in contact with their engineers and I keep sending them examples of videos, just new ai cameras need improvement, for example older c225 notifications are superior compared to my newest c260 A random portrait is marked as a stranger and cam keeps recording xd https://preview.redd.it/o8tyi6jny9bf1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea65623dbcd6955715d6b3d27015df11063b1967

r/Tapo · Too much memory consumed Tapo C260

I have two c260 cameras, 24/7, that one which make more face detections occupy a lot more data on my hub. https://preview.redd.it/4xn3pbubjp2h1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee0fe87d953df0b097b0954801560c69cb4a5bce

    r/Tapo · C210 night vision not recording motion/triggering

I talk with tapo support to add schedules or automation for night mode or add an option to change the threshold for switching to the night mode. It's one of the biggest issues with all tapo cameras. For example my c260 and c225 V2 are useless due to it between 7pm and 9pm xd

    r/Tapo · Camera C260 not yet compatible with H500 in US :(

Minuses: Face recognition is weak you need to look straight into the camera for at least a second or more. Family members are very often detected as a stranger, it depends on the angle or other magic, but most of the faces are just detected only as a person detection even if you clearly see the face on the footage, but the funniest thing is that the camera can tag the dog's big plush toy face as a stranger or picture on the wall as a stranger. You can't connect to 5ghz WiFi, the camera is not detecting it at all, only 2.4ghz. In specification it is 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Cat meowing detection is worse than on my c225 V2. Not supporting hub storage yet. Lag, delay in notifications, notification can arrive after a few minutes or not at all. All notifications are working great with my c225 V2. Just a lot of issues at this moment with first firmwares. Pluses: Image is nice. the C260 is a new model and it comes with a local AI face recognition feature, you can set familiar faces, it will let you know if the person is your family member/friends or stranger based on your settings.

I have both C225 (2K with very clear night view) and C260 (4K, sharper image quality with very good night view), and I am very happy with them, maybe check them both if any of them suits your needs better.

    r/Tapo · C260 Firmware for Hub Storage Support - July Release ?

[https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/4191/](https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/4191/) I spoke with the team about this last week regarding the Tapo C260 compatibility. Last I heard, the feature is still set for this month. As for the C246D, this looks to be slated for a release a month later in August (which would make sense due to the needed development to handle the dual camera setup) - but I did not talk with the team for specifics on this model.

r/Tapo · Current Tapo Smart Hub (H200/H500) Compatible Camera List

I believe that the stated goal is for all Tapo cameras to support Hub Recording. According to the linked FAQ for supported cameras, the Tapo C260 is currently awaiting a firmware update to add the feature, which appears to have been slated for release this month. Let me reach out to the teams to see if I can get any more information on the potential arrival of the feature/update for the camera.

r/Tapo · Need help deciding on an indoor camera

I have the c260 (4k ptz) c246d (dual ptz) and c120. Any should work just fine. It's more field of view. The c246d can have the ptz camera on a side door while the ultra wide can watch an entire house/room. The c120 has a nice wide FOV and cheap so you could get more. The c260 has the best image of them but the narrowest field of view by a little bit and no spotlight alarm

    r/Tapo · Tapo c260 poor image quality

I have both. I think the c246d quality is quite poor. I don't find the c260 to be lacking really, especially for under $50. It's 4k so zooming is certainly sharper but it's nothing special.

r/homesecurity · Wyze Cam Pan similar option

Not sure I use it indoors so wouldn't use it. It'll color down to a point then flick to IR if too dark. The tapo c325ws is mind blowing with low light abilities if you need outdoor. Doesn't even have an IR light on it

r/homesecurity · Wyze Cam Pan similar option

    r/Tapo · C260 Window Mount Options

I have 3 now, 2 inside, 1 outside. There are all still working without any issues. I don't do any auto tracking with the motor. That works but there was a warning that leaving that on all the time will cause it will l to wear out faster. I mainly got this model for the 5Ghz wifi and 4k resolution. The app connects pretty quick, and the picture is noticeably more sharp than the euft indoor 2k cams I replaced.

    r/Tapo · C260 Window Mount Options

I have already been using a Eufy Indoor cam looking through the window for years. Haven't had any problems with reflections. Same with the new C260, no problem with reflections or seeing at night. There's a street light that provides enough light with the starlight sensor than night time recordings are bright and clear.

    r/Tapo · C260 Window Mount Options

There were 2 main reasons I got the C260, 5Ghz WiFi and 4K 8MP. The motorization is an extra perk. This is my first Tapo camera, and I'm impressed with the extra clarity over the Eufy Indoor 2K, the faster connectivity, the nighttime color video. If the motorization introduces problems with the zones I'm fine not relying on the motor. My focus now is finding the best window mount.

    r/Tapo · C210 night vision not recording motion/triggering

i have not tried to contact them. I am traveling in Asia now and have no way to troubleshoot if they ask me to do something. I installed the camera about two weeks before I left. I wanted to know about cars pulling into my driveway (which works well during the day) but not at night. My understanding is you get better support if you chat on the discord server. I will probably try that when I get home

    r/Tapo · C210 night vision not recording motion/triggering

Well I am not so certain. A lamp post light is a very normal thing on a city street. The lamp posts are not moving and the light intensity is constant. The light is effecting some specific pixels. There is no reason, that I can see, why the light should make detection of a car pulling in/out of my driveway fail. The car is impacting a very large pixel area. The light is impacting a very small pixel area. The car motion should be detected. During the day time car/person detection is fine. It continues to work until the lamp post lights up. Then nothing is detected even though there is plenty of light for a full color video feed.

r/Tapo · Can I change the FPS of Tapo cameras?

The C260 is recently released and supports 15, 20, 25 I suspect older models did not support because of the higher cpu demand, streaming demand and current demand. Just like older tapo cameras only supported 2.4 ghz. Tapo just released several new cameras that support 5 ghz. I would guess that adjustable frame rate will also become more common in the newer models as the cost of more powerful cpu’s drop and as the cpu’s demand less power to operate…

r/Tapo · C260 no longer working with Home Assistant?

Yes, I already reported it enabled (and working for my 5 other Tapo cameras). And I have toggled it off/on. The C260 camera works fine with the Tapo app. But this camera (only) refuses to connect to HA. I have not tried to stream the camera using other integrations with HA. I have seen that some users are using HACS successfully for this problem. But I really would prefer not to add an additional integration just for one of my six cameras if possible. It is easy to add lots of integrations and invite more issues

r/Tapo · C260 no longer working with Home Assistant?

    r/Tapo · C260 Window Mount Options

I used a C260 through a window for a while. It is not ideal because any background light in the room will reflect off of the glass and add reduce the overall acuity. I ended up creating a paper “shroud” around the camera and the window to reduce some of this reflection. In the end, I switched to a C120. The C120 is perfect for me. I have two C120’s mounted directly to the window glass using “nano tape” between the window glass and the camera face. This is an extremely solid connection and is removable. It also eliminates the glare as the camera face is next to the window pane. I have a third c220 that needed to be angled (and not butted against the pane). For this, i bought a 3D printed c220 window mount from amazon. This also works great as the mount shrouds the camera from background reflection. Regarding mounting the c260, I would recommend doing this: Attach the C260 to the provided mounting bracket. The attach the bracket to a longer piece of wood or plastic. The point here is to provide a better/smoother surface area for attaching to the window frame using nano tape. Then affix this assembly to the window frame using nano tape or some other non permanent adhesive. You can even attach the camera at the top upside down.

    r/Tapo · C210 night vision not recording motion/triggering

In my case, i have night mode turned off. I do not need it as there is plenty of background light at night for triggers. I only use automations for my triggers. The problem i have is the camera fails to detect anything at night if there is a bright light (60 watt bulb) in the field of view within a 75 yards

r/Tapo · Can I change the FPS of Tapo cameras?

Powerline frequency should not be confused with frame rate. Powerline frequency is either 50 or 60 hz around the world and is the frequency your electric utility uses. My C260 has no 30fps possibility. You can see that if you look at the c260 specs or the app https://preview.redd.it/8zcbjjmbddjf1.jpeg?width=789&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0170969d968b87ad9228c52469584ef9aa7b6f85

r/Tapo · [C260] Confused with max tilt limit in Tapo app

It seems to me that the “Pan & Tilt Correction” did not function properly. I believe this is a sort of calibration of the camera position. What happens if you run the Pan & Tilt Correction again? If it again refuses to fully go down then i think you have a hardware issue and should replace it. If it looks good, then I would run the Pan & Tilt Correction a few more times just to verify it is always working correctly

r/Tapo · [C260] Confused with max tilt limit in Tapo app

I received a c260 this week. I have mine installed ceiling mount or “upside down” I am not sure what tilt you are expecting, but the max tilt spec for the c260 is 116° I have attached two photos showing the max up/down tilt that I have for your reference. The left is the max down tilt and the right is the max up tilt. I believe my c260 meets the 116° criteria https://preview.redd.it/iuxz4uv3hnif1.jpeg?width=2246&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=567a7db85c78ed88ac1fc2a06c9aecad473a00bf

    r/Tapo · C260 Window Mount Options

A c120 might have been a better choice since they a low profile and people make window mounts for them on Etsy. Being flat they can actually sit flush on the window to reduce glare. Setting zones probably wouldn’t work well for a pan tilt camera because the zones are static so it will remain in the same spot of the image even if the camera has moved.

    r/qnap · TP-Link Tapo C260 with QNAP?

So, I got the C260, I've fiddled in its app (e.g. to create an ONVIF account) and added it to QVR Surveillance. The only thing, the default ONVIF port in QVR is wrong - must be 2020. However, QVR Surveillance can't - for example - put the camera in and out Privacy Mode. I have to use the app for that.

    r/qnap · TP-Link Tapo C260 with QNAP?

Thank you. Yes, my understanding is that the basic function (video streaming) would work. I guess even pan/tilt, and motion detection? But is there anything important I would lose, or will it work less reliably? This is my first attempt at surveillance, I still have to figure it out (and within the C260's return period :) )

Don’t know. I have used a camera before and all I did was just static recording. You should take time to try it out or just return the device if you don’t have time for it. My experience with these kind of things is that on QNAP they take at least 5-10 times more time than you would normally spend to get something working on a PC, unless you’re very experienced in working with QNAP software

r/Tapo · Looking for a indoor security camera that detects pets

Tapo c260 in my kitchen 1. If there’s a plant in and or any obstruction. It will still detect. In my kitchen the big ass extracted in the middle of the island blocks some areas but it still detects the head of the dog and the tail wagging. 2. You can set up pet detection, cat and dog. Bark and meow detection. The sensitivity of it. Also baby crying and glass breaking. My camera however detects the clatter of washing dishing as glass breaking. You could set up an alarm for someone physically tampering with the camera like trying to unplug it. 3. Somewhat. Before I drilled my camera in. I duct taped it. Over a week it slowly peeled off and its positioning changed slowly until it finally fell. It worked with what it had.

Thanks! that's kinda disappointing about the spotlight considering even my $20 dinky C120 has one. But I don't anticipate using it often since it's in a domestic setting. I saw a couple of reviews on amazon saying that even though the C260 is higher res, that the ability to render proper lighting in various conditions etc was inferior to the C225 so that's mostly what I'm concerned about. Now on the other hand the C216 looks good but may have worse night vision than the c225 and c260, but it has a spotlight

Thanks! I really prefer selfhosting and don't want to depend on a cloud, nor host my recordings in iCloud (if that's what "unlimited camera hosting" means). But thanks for the suggestion. It does seem like a good solution. After just installing Frigate now (no Scryped), all the cameras load* in less than a second in Home Assistant. Before, a few would load after 1-2 seconds, and then after another 5 seconds or so, a few more may load, and then the rest would never load. So I would sometimes have to refresh the page a few times to get the "right" camera to load. I have not played enough around with ONVIF yet (I removed it from HA and added them to Frigate, but they aren't showing up in HA – haven't looked much into it yet, though). I have also had some connection issues sometimes with my Tapo cameras (also with the app), but this has mostly gone away after I've configured them all to restart once a day. \* The exception being that my newest C260 sometimes fails to load, because the stream is "corrupted" and when it does load, it's as an MSE stream, not an RTC stream.
