Reolink Argus 4 Pro

Reolink Argus 4 Pro, packshot

r/reolinkcam · Another Review of the Reolink Argus 4 Pro ;)

Merci

r/reolinkcam · A let down. Wait for something else to come out

To further clarify for everyone that's unaware of Reolink's recent vendetta against vertical field of view... Reolink's vertical field of view specs on their dual lens cameras haven't been accurate on multiple cameras in a row now, not since the Duo 2. Duo 3, 3V, Argus 4 Pro, Elite Floodlight, Elite XPro... all shorter than what the official specs say. We know this because I've compared those all side by side, and now Will has done the same with this new one. For example, the official specs say the Duo 3's vFOV is 55° and the Duo 2's is 60°. However, when you compare them side by side it's much more than just a 5° difference, it's more like a 15° difference. So either the Duo 2's specs were wrong all along or all these newer ones are wrong. They can't both be accurate. (you can see my comparison images in my reviews of the Duo 2 and A4P [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1aqmsp0/duo_3_initial_thoughts_and_some_sample_images/) and [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1dcpv2w/argus_4_pro_review_and_comparisons/)). This one thing is my biggest gripe with Reolink these days. Between this and discontinuing all of their 75° vFOV cameras they seem to have forgotten how important vFOV is and it's very disheartening.

    r/reolinkcam · What's on your 2025 Reolink wish list?

Here is my wish list, ranked in order of how much I want them.... 1. A new POE/Wifi doorbell with a 2nd lens pointing downwards to see packages 2. For [this](https://i.imgur.com/FrQCjbU.png) camera we saw at IFA to hurry up and get here 3. FTP support on the RLN36 4. Get back to making cameras with good vertical fields of view. The biggest disappointment of 2024 for me was the abysmal vertical FOV of the Duo 3, 3V, and Argus 4 Pro. I still stand behind my claim that the specs they list for those cameras is about 10-15° larger than it is in reality. All you have to do is compare images of the Duo 3 to the Duo 2 like I did in my [review](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1aqmsp0/duo_3_initial_thoughts_and_some_sample_images/). 5. A turret or dome CX camera with large FOV both horizontally and vertically. Something with a FOV like the 1240A or 520A-2.8mm.  6. Get back to making turret cameras in general. The last new turret model we had was the 1224A and that was over a year and a half ago. 7. In the mobile app stop forcing the doorbell models to be at the top of the NVR grid and much larger than the other cameras. I want my doorbell to be treated the same as the other cameras. Or at least give users the option. 8. A new updated Trackmix with improvements such as a higher resolution telephoto lens and the ability to zoom in further than the current one does. 9. A new 8MP+ battery Trackmix. I love mine, but it’s really falling behind the competition at only 4MP. 10. Since the standalone floodlight has been discontinued, I’d like to see a new version of it, and maybe even more models of lights in general (standalone wifi bulbs maybe?) 11. Spotlight on CX cameras: Please allow us to have it so that the spotlight **only** comes on when motion is detected, but be off at all other times. Like the CX410 was when it first came out. 12. Push interval for battery cameras 13. HDR on more cameras. Especially CX models, it should be required on them. The Argus 4 Pro really suffers from not having HDR. 14. No more reset buttons at the end of the pigtail cord. It should always be a pinhole button under the SD card cover like some of their cameras already do. While we’re at it, just stop putting a DC barrel jack on the POE cameras, no one uses it. 15. Tiny indoor cameras. Something about the size of Wyze cameras. They could just take the tiny camera module from the doorbell and put it in a different shell and I'd buy about 8 of them. 16. Apps for smart TVs and streaming devices: Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, etc. 17. 3D Zoom for all PTZ cameras. 18. To be able to hide unused NVR channels in desktop client (like you can in mobile app) 19. More home automation products like the canceled wifi smart plugs (I still use my two test plugs). Plugs, lights, motion sensors, contact sensors, etc. 20. Better precise navigation in the mobile app. Either double tap the edges of the screen to go forward/backward (like how Youtube does it) or at least buttons that let you skip forward/backward X number of seconds.

r/reolinkcam · charging at low temperatures / frost

1- Yes, that's how all of their battery cameras operate. 2- I don't think it's just a matter of replacing the battery, I'm pretty sure they've coded the camera's OS to not allow a charge when that cold. 3- None can. How did I solve that problem? I don't use battery cameras as a first line of defense, first off. So if one of them goes dead it's not a big deal. Second, I use an Altas as one of my battery cameras because it has a large enough battery to last a few months without ever needing a charge. Another option is that they did come out with this battery pack a few months ago: [https://reolink.com/product/rla-bp1](https://reolink.com/product/rla-bp1) Apparently it can take a charge down to -10C and it also powers the camera directly (as opposed to simply recharging the camera's battery, which it can't do in the cold) I've seen others build their own solar set up with a larger solar panel, a car/marine battery, and a non-battery camera. By the way, 5m is a decent amount higher than the recommended height for battery cameras because of their use of PIR sensors to wake the camera up. I wouldn't be surprised if you have detection issues at that height.

    r/reolinkcam · Automations?

Where to start lol... first thing I'll say that Reolink probably wouldn't want me saying is that any of us that are serious about our security camera setups aren't using battery cameras as our only cameras. In my opinion battery cameras are toys, not real security cameras. And that goes for *every* brand*.* I do use a few battery cams myself, but they're only supplemental secondary cameras. The only way to have a proper camera setup that won't miss things is to have powered cameras (POE is best, but even plug-in wifi is miles better than battery). In case you're not aware of the drawbacks of battery cameras, I wrote about the topic in our FAQ [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/l0qkmdc/). Anyway, on to your actual questions... If you want to use battery cameras with a 3rd party automation system like HomeAssistant or Homey, then you need a Home Hub or NVR. Battery cams go to sleep and those 3rd party systems aren't capable of waking them up without a middleman like a Hub or NVR. That isn't unique to Reolink. Reolink does have a "shortcuts" feature (or "scenes" for the Hubs) which allow you to turn off push notifications, recording, etc for all (or only specific ones) with the push of a button in the app. But it's still a manual button press, no way to automate it. I complained about that for years... then I started using HomeAssistant and I don't even care anymore, HA does it better than Reolink could ever do it natively. Here are their support articles on shortcuts and scenes: [https://support.reolink.com/articles/360026049414-What-is-Shortcut-and-How-to-Configure-Shortcut-for-Your-Cameras-on-Reolink-App/](https://support.reolink.com/articles/360026049414-What-is-Shortcut-and-How-to-Configure-Shortcut-for-Your-Cameras-on-Reolink-App/) [https://support.reolink.com/articles/37479538798105-Introduction-to-Scene-Mode-for-Reolink-Home-Hub/](https://support.reolink.com/articles/37479538798105-Introduction-to-Scene-Mode-for-Reolink-Home-Hub/) Tons of us use HA by the way, it really takes a Reolink setup to the next level. Between automations and rich notifications I think I have 30 or 40 things set up in HA for my cameras. >Do you actively go in an disable pir on each camera when you come home and enable them when you leave? No, my cameras are on all the time. If I'm going to be working in the yard I'll disable notifications via HA while I'm out there, and before HA I did it with a shortcut in the Reolink app. Unless you/kids/dog/etc are going to be active in front of the cameras a lot then I'd just leave them alone. >It seems extremely backwards for cameras that are supposed to be state of the art? Battery cameras aren't start of the art, ever. State of the art cameras would be POE and would cost you 10-20x more per camera than anything Reolink or any other home consumer brand sells.

    r/reolinkcam · Automations?

It's not too difficult, you'll probably just have to do some googling or get help from AI. The easy part is the "action" part of the automation - i.e. turning notifications off, or turning sensitivities all the way down (that's how I do it), or in the case of battery cameras, turning PIR sensor off. The trickier part is how you're triggering it. I do it via two buttons on my HA dashboard - one that turns them off for 30 minutes and one that does it for 2 hours. Then when I'm going to be working out in the yard I click one of those two buttons. Creating those two buttons was a little tricky and I had to do some googling to figure out how to do it. However, if you're wanting to do it like OP, based off of when you're home or away then you'd have to use geolocation sensing via the HA mobile app, which I've never attempted.

r/reolinkcam · Trouble with Argus 4 Pro and solar charging

    >The cam battery itself reports an battery temperature of +2.0°C (read via Home Assistant). That should be warm enough for the battery to charge In reality that's not always warm enough. In my experience the cameras won't start to charge until at least 35F/2C, and at that point it's a very slow charge. They don't start to charge at full speed until you get to around 45F/7C. Even then it depends on the camera model. My battery Trackmix won't charge at all until the mid-40's.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro

Yes. If you have access to POE (or wall power) then you should never use a battery camera.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro

This will happen with battery cameras. POE cameras and plug-in wifi cameras generate heat, which means things like this won't happen. Battery cameras also can't charge when it gets under about 35F, so that's probably why your battery didn't last. See: [Is your battery camera not being charged by the solar panel in the winter?](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/m6o2cdn/)

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro Battery Runtime Issue

The way battery cameras work is they're in sleep mode most of the time, except for the PIR sensor, which is a dumb heat-based type of sensor. If the PIR sensor detects movement in front of it then it wakes the camera up and then the camera decides if it's something that needs recorded based off of your recording settings. So in theory you could have zero recordings, yet the camera could be waking up hundreds of times a day if there's a lot of motion in front of it. To test if that's the problem I'd lower the PIR sensitivity really low and see how it affects the runtime. I've noticed in my own testing that the A4P's PIR sensor seems to be more sensitive than some of the others. You'd also then want to do some trial and error with walking in front of it at different PIR sensitivities. Cameras, especially battery ones, aren't plug and play, some trial and error needs to be done to get the detection settings fine tuned.

r/reolinkcam · POE Duo 3 vs Battery Wifi Argus 4 Pro?

1 - Yes 2 - No battery camera can compare to a POE camera. It's better than nothing, but my opinion is that battery cameras should never be relied on for actual security because it's only a matter of time before they'll miss something since they have to go to sleep and thus aren't watching 24/7. That applies to every brand. I always say that if a security camera isn't recording 24/7 then it's not a real security camera. To answer your question though... the 180° is the only thing they have in common. The A4P is lower resolution and its a completely different type of night vision. The Duo is traditional IR and the A4P is ColorX, which gives you a nice color image at night, but it needs to have a bit of ambient light. If it's dark then you will have bad results. How exactly is your cable in the wall not working? It's very rare for a cable to just go bad unless it was physically damaged. Usually it's more likely that the plugs on the end are the problem and they're easy to replace.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro — Battery Life

If you have PIR off, that's definitely nowhere near normal. With PIR off they should never be waking up unless you're viewing them. The A4P does have probably the worst battery life of all of their cameras, but it's not that bad. I actually have plenty of experience with that camera, I have two of them and I've used them in various situations over the last year I've had them. I had a major exterior renovation and addition done this past fall and winter, and I used two A4P's without solar panels to monitor monitor my house for about 5 months while the work was going on and preventing me from using proper POE cameras. If I remember correctly I was having to take them down about every 10 days to charge them, but that's with PIR turned on, so 3.5 days with PIR off is not normal. I actually later did some further testing of their battery life. I was testing to see how much HomeAssistant affects a camera's battery life, and I did the testing with my two A4Ps with PIR turned off. Both of them only dropped down to 93% after 3 days (you can see me talk more about it [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1lwdq1q/comment/n3cx4iq/) if you want). I don't talk about it in that post, but I actually let them go even longer after that, for 3 weeks total. After that one of them was at 59% and the other at 57%. Sorry, that's a lot of text just to say... no, your cameras aren't performing like they should. What I would do in your situation is submit a ticket to Reolink support. They may even have a newer firmware available that will address the issue. Or they may just replace it, I don't know. Mine are on firmware v3.0.0.4978\_2506060 by the way, which is a fairly new update from June that yours probably doesn't have.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

No, it won't, the video will be sideways. I've run other cameras of theirs sideways like that and it didn't bother me (I could always rotate it later in a video editor if needed), but never a dual lens camera... that would be quite the tall and narrow view lol.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro Battery Issue

I have 2 of them and the battery isn't great compared to the others, but mine still only use about 10% per day, and that's without a solar panel. If I had a solar panel on them I'm sure they would stay fully charged. About 6 days to go from 100% to 45%: [https://i.imgur.com/gubZmU4.png](https://i.imgur.com/gubZmU4.png) You might want to experiment with lowering PIR sensitivity, it's probably being woken up a lot. I've noticed the PIR sensor on these is more sensitive than most of their other cameras. 20% per hour is insane though. I'm not sure if it would even use that much if you viewed it nonstop.

r/reolinkcam · Adding Argus 4 Pro to NVR

    >How do I add the battery powered camera to the NVR via the app? You don't. Cameras can only be added to the NVR via the NVR UI on an attached monitor. There are a few things that can only be done at the NVR UI, so I always recommend not hiding the NVR in a place where you can't connect a monitor to it when needed. You also need to make sure your NVR hardware version supports battery cameras and has the latest firmware that supports battery cameras: [https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000602543-Comprehensive-Guide-to-Reolink-NVR-Hardware-Versions/](https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000602543-Comprehensive-Guide-to-Reolink-NVR-Hardware-Versions/)

r/reolinkcam · Weather reliability on the Argus 4 Pro

I was testing mine out in different locations and last week we had snow on our roof that was melting and dripping over the gutters. I discovered one morning that it had been dripping right onto my Argus 4 Pro and then freezing. I noticed one morning that it had developed a layer of ice almost 1/2" thick. I had the cam pointed downwards too, so most of the ice was on the back where the speaker and charging port flap are, so I was pretty concerned I might have damaged it. I should have taken a picture, it was an impressive amount of ice lol. I brought it in to let the ice melt, and the camera was just fine. I've also had several others of their cameras mounted with no cover above them and never had an issue. The longest I've had any like that are both a POE Trackmix and a battery Trackmix for about 2.5 years and still going strong. As long as you protect any ports on it, you should be fine. With the Argus 4 specifically, if you're going to have a solar panel plugged into it I would run some silicone sealant or something around the connection point to make sure no water ever gets in via that point.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro is a great battery powered WiFi cam, but suffers from serious lens-fogging.

That's a problem with any battery camera, unless it's under the cover of soffits or something. It's the same reason dew accumulates on literally everything outside when the conditions are right. A camera is no different. It doesn't happen to powered cameras because they generate heat which prevents dew from forming on them. I've used I think 8 different battery models of theirs and this has happened on all but one of them when the conditions are right (it happened to me this morning also). For some reason my battery Trackmix has never had the issue and I'm not sure why. I have a temporary setup right now using two A4P's, one on the front of the house under a soffit and one on the back of the house completely exposed. The one under the soffit had no dew on it this morning, the on in the back did. I think I've read that that putting Rain-X or similar on the lens may work, but I've never tried it myself.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

Well, if you have no light around then you don't want a CX camera like the Argus 4 Pro. ColorX needs at least a little bit of light to work with. You would instead want a traditional IR camera. Also, do you have access to power? If so, you also wouldn't want to use a battery camera. Not only are they not always watching/recording like a powered camera is, but their detection distance is only about 30ft. So if you have a big yard a battery camera is probably out of the question. How far away is this fence?

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

No, unless you can find a USB-C splitter that has 1 female end and 2 male ends. And even then I don't know if it would work. I suppose maybe you could splice a wire together if you knew what you were doing.

    Installation facile
    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 pro q

That cam has a pretty short vertical field of view, so yes it will have a blind spot underneath it unless you point it straight down. The idea is that it's positioned so that even if it does have a blind spot under it the camera will see anyone approaching before they get to that blind spot. If you want to see kind of what it would look like at about that height, here's a video from when I reviewed that camera and had it mounted at about 7-7.5ft high: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8oBwIF4Jv4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8oBwIF4Jv4)

    r/reolinkcam · Automations?

    >Battery cameras save most battery when the pir is off but it's not possible on the Argus 4 Pro. Yes it is possible to turn PIR off. I have two of that model, I've done it many times. >And no automations on my precense nor connection to Homey Right. I told you what's needed to get them connected to 3rd party systems. That's not unique to Reolink, it's a limitation of all battery cameras, and I already explained why. >Fairly standard stuff in my book. Not for battery cameras it isn't. Again, it sounds like you want to take this stuff seriously, but the only way to do that is to not use toys as your cameras. If you're not willing or able to use powered cameras then you're never going to have a serious security camera setup. >If second level support can't get me api access I'm probably going to bin them. I mean, they're not going to be able to unless you get a Hub or NVR. It's not like they're withholding access until each person contacts them to ask for it lol. You may want to look into [Neolink](https://github.com/QuantumEntangledAndy/neolink), that's a software solution that I believe can act as the middleman instead of a Hub or NVR. I've never used it though, so I can't comment further about it. You already said you were planning on getting a Hub anyways, so I'd just do that. That will get you everything you're complaining about.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro continuous livestream in HA?

Yeah, the battery won't charge once it gets below approximately 35F. As for the livestream in HA... It might timeout after a certain amount of time like it does in the official app or client, but I'm not sure. Paging u/StarkillerTR to get confirmation on how that works. By the way, the upcoming Elite XPro will be a dual lens CX camera. The question is no one knows when it's going to arrive, it was first announced over a year ago.

r/reolinkcam · Advice on reolink set up

    >I don't have the skills or time to create a wired, ethernet system so I have decided on wifi solar-powered battery cameras. Then just make sure you're aware of the drawbacks of battery cameras. You will miss events sometimes, you'll miss the beginnings of events, you'll miss the end of events. If you live in an area that doesn't get much sun in the winter, or it gets down to 32F/0C for extended periods of time the you may find the solar panels can't keep the camera charged. Many have said the same thing as you only to regret it later and wish they had put in the time to do it properly. FYI, it doesn't have to be ethernet. Even a plug-in powered wifi camera is miles better than a battery camera. I'd recommend reading these two entries in our FAQ: [https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/l0qkmdc/](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/l0qkmdc/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/m6o2cdn/](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/m6o2cdn/) >and will not put any storage in the cameras themselves. That's not a good idea. You should never have your footage be stored in only one place, especially when it relies on wifi. What most of us do, and I would highly recommend, is putting small cards in each camera so that footage is being saved in 2 places. Even if it's just an 8GB card you should have *something* for redundancy. I use 32GB cards in every camera of mine. >Will be able to view live footage from the cameras via the app using the home hub? Yes, that's standard with any Reolink product.

r/reolinkcam · How to Hardwire Argus 4 Pro to 120V AC

Well, I'm not talking about the AC hardwired models. I just mean a regular plug-in wifi camera that plugs into an electrical outlet. Like the Elite Wifi for example. I'm assuming you already have a junction box and AC wiring ran to it, and then maybe already have an electrical outlet there? If so, you have what you need, if not, install an outlet in that box. Then use a plug-in wifi camera there and since it's not a battery model it's capable of recording 24/7, which the A4P can't do and is a huge disadvantage to battery cameras in general. There, now you have a much better security camera than the A4P can ever do. The AC hardwired models are an option too, but they're only floodlight models. Of course, POE is the ultimate way to do it if you have that option.

r/reolinkcam · How to Hardwire Argus 4 Pro to 120V AC

Is there a reason you have to use that model? Why wouldn't you just use a plug-in wifi camera? Plugging a battery camera in 24/7 is not only a bad idea, you're going to get much worse performance than you would from a plug-in camera, since the battery camera will still operate like a battery and go to sleep and only record on motion.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

Yeah, I mean silicone caulk, or any sort of thing like that. I have a tube of stuff called silicone gutter sealant that I've also used. I wouldn't necessarily do it on any camera though, it's just that this A4P is a bad design where the USB port is located. I do also use dielectric grease in the ethernet ports of any POE cameras that are going to be outside.

    r/reolinkcam · Recharging questions

Depends on how often their PIR sensor wakes them up, but my Argus 3 Pros last about 4-6 weeks and my Argus 4 Pro a week or so less than that. Is it practical? It depends on where you mount them and how hard they are to get to I guess. I have an A3P on a tree in my front yard and I just need a step stool to reach it, so it's not hard. I actually have a spare one, so when the one on the tree needs recharged I just swap them. Rinse and repeat several weeks later.

r/reolinkcam · New Argus 4 Pro not detecting any motion at all?

It might be a faulty device. I have two A4P's and if anything they're too sensitive. At least compared to the other battery cameras I've used. I chalked that up to the PIR sensor being physically larger than most of the others. I'd get back in touch with Reolink and tell them what you've posted here.

r/reolinkcam · charging at low temperatures / frost

Well, it's not borderline, that's why I mentioned it. It's almost double what they recommend. If you haven't experienced any missed events yet, then that's awesome, but I just wanted you to be aware that if you do notice missed events then the height is likely the reason.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro 4K Solar

Depends on your NVR's hardware version, but unless it's 4-5 years old then it should work. You can check which HW versions can do battery cameras here: [https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000602543-Comprehensive-Guide-to-Reolink-NVR-Hardware-Versions/](https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000602543-Comprehensive-Guide-to-Reolink-NVR-Hardware-Versions/)

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 pro PIR issue

    >Every single person who has the same issue and asks in here gets told to turn off "other/any motion" motion notifications in the schedule tab... That's great and everything but it doesn't stop it from recording It does if you turn it off in the recording schedule. Push notifications and recordings have their own separate schedules. You're right though, the PIR sensor isn't capable of picking up motion at that distance. And I'm certain it's not. I bet what is happening is that the PIR sensor is being woken up by something else that *is* within the 30ft range. Or it's waking up for any other reason. Once the camera is woken up it's then not relying only on the PIR sensor anymore, it can now detect anything that's within its view, and it sees motion so it records it (since you have Others/Any Motion on in your recording schedule). So what I would do is turn the PIR sensitivity down a bit and make sure you turn off Others/Any Motion in the recording schedule.

    r/reolinkcam · CX410W vs Argus 4 Pro overall performance?

Yeah, the others are right. You shouldn't even be comparing them. If you have access to power you shouldn't even be considering a battery camera since they can't record 24/7 (other than the Altas). Your incident is exactly the reason why. The only advantage to the A4P is the dual lens 180° view.

r/reolinkcam · Battery-Powered Camera System for big plot

Exactly. If there's any possibility at all of getting power to the camera locations, then do whatever has to be done to do that because powered cameras are so much better than battery cameras. Battery cameras should really only be used when there is zero chance of getting power to the camera. And even then I still wouldn't trust it as a primary security camera. I only use 2 of them permanently (1 attached to a tree in my front yard, 1 in the back), and they're just supplemental cameras. They're just there to get a wider view of my whole house and yard, but I still have POE cams mounted to my house to continually watch the important areas.

r/reolinkcam · Battery-Powered Camera System for big plot

As far as the motion range, you might want to read up on how battery cameras work. They use PIR sensors to wake the camera up when the PIR sensor detects heat-based motion. PIR sensors have a range of only about 10m. So you're not going to capture any motion events farther away than that with any of their battery cameras. I'd suggest reading these two things: [https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006379253-Reolink-Camera-Installation-Tips/](https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006379253-Reolink-Camera-Installation-Tips/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/l0qkmdc/](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/133vod7/comment/l0qkmdc/) If they really don't care about capturing recordings and only want to live view (which I predict they'll later regret), then ignore everything above. As far as that specific camera, I have two of them and have used them a lot in several different scenarios. They're kind of my temporary cameras, I moved them around a lot as needed during a recent 6-month long exterior house remodel. So I have a lot of experience with them. They really are nice cameras and I like them, but you will want to be aware of a few things... 1. They're ColorX cameras as opposed to traditional IR cameras, that means they need a little bit of ambient light to see properly at night. If it's going to be a very dark environment then they won't be a good choice. Usually just a porch light or nearby street light is all that's needed though. 2. Their battery life isn't great. I've used a lot of their battery cameras and its battery life is probably the worst of all the ones I've used. However, as long as they get some strong sun a few hours a week then the solar panel should be able to keep them charged no problem. Where that becomes a problem though is in the winter. Their batteries won't charge when it gets below about 35F. So if you live in a cold area that's something you should take into account. They might be needing brought inside and charged if it stays under 35F for weeks straight. That applies to all battery cameras by the way, not just this one. 3. The vertical field of view is pretty small. That means the higher the cameras are mounted the less you'll actually be able to see. Mounted at 10ft high for example and you're either pointing it down so you can see close to the camera, or you're pointing it more up and seeing areas farther away from the camera. You won't be able to do both. The lower you can mount it the less that becomes a problem. And no, you shouldn't need to do any port forwarding, Reolink's UID service should be able to handle remote access just fine unless they have some weird network setup that would block that (sometimes cellular based ISPs have issues for example).

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

I do have to say that the single lens cameras seem to be accurate with their vertical FOV specs. It's only the dual lens cameras post-Duo 2 (Duo 3, 3V, A4P) that I think are inaccurate.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

Well, when it comes to battery cameras there really aren't any with a large vertical FOV like there are with the powered cameras. They're all around 50° or so. And it also depends on whether you want to stick with ColorX like the A4P has. I'd suggest using our comparison charts so you can see all the FOV specs at once: [https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/z6caqk/reolink\_specs\_comparison\_charts/](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/z6caqk/reolink_specs_comparison_charts/)

r/reolinkcam · Bought the Argus 4 Pro for my backyard/driveway now I'm second guessing my decision

You're correct. ColorX cameras need a little bit of light to work with. If you have no ambient light then you should go with an IR camera. The non-Pro Argus 4 is IR instead of Colorx: [https://reolink.com/us/product/argus-4/](https://reolink.com/us/product/argus-4/) Of course the best results are going to be from a powered camera, not a battery one. I'm assuming power isn't an option?

r/reolinkcam · Does the REOLINK Hub work with Argus 4 Pro (wifi/battery) and support RTSP?

Connectivity is good, but I don't use the Hub's wifi, I use my own. So that's largely dependent on your wifi coverage. I have excellent wifi coverage, with 3 APs around my house, so no problems there for me. The battery life isn't great compared to their other battery cameras, but if you have it connected to a solar panel that shouldn't be a problem. It's a battery camera, and all battery cameras are going to take a couple seconds to wake up from sleep and start recording. It's just the nature of how they work. In order for them to wake up faster they would have to be awake all the time, and the only one of them that can do that is the Altas PT Ultra due to its massive battery.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro still on firmware v3.0.0.3867_24072601

Mine is on the same firmware as well. With battery cameras you'd have to submit a ticket to Reolink support to ask if there's new firmware that can be pushed to you. However, a delay of a couple seconds is normal with battery cameras, so firmware probably isn't going to help. Since they're asleep when inactive it takes a second or two for it to wake up and for the camera to decide if it needs to start recording or not.

r/reolinkcam · Best Placement for Argus 4 Pro Camera & Effect of Night Light on Motion Detection

    >I was thinking about placing a night light above the door. Do you think this would help in triggering the camera's motion detection faster No, because battery cameras use a PIR sensor to trigger motion and wake the camera up from sleep. PIR uses changes in heat signatures to detect motion ([this](https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004357254-Introduction-to-PIR-Motion-Sensor/) explains how PIR works). Now once the camera is woken from sleep by PIR, then any light you can provide will help it distinguish if the motion is a person, etc. However, if that light is also within the camera's field view, it may just end up blinding the camera, which is easy to do with these CX cameras. \--------------------------- >When I walk straight to the door at 0° (which has bars, so I can see outside), the camera doesn’t capture me if I stay behind the door. However, if I open the door and step out, the camera picks me up at the same distance. Is there glass in the door? If so, then that's blocking your heat signature. PIR doesn't work through glass. Even if there is no glass, the bars might be blocking just enough of your body heat for the PIR sensor to not trigger. \--------------------------- >This got me thinking – should I move the camera closer to one of the doors for better monitoring? My goal is to trigger an alert if someone tries to break in. Since closer is always better when it comes to PIR, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. You should just trial and error it and see.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

No you cannot. The only battery camera that can record 24/7 is the Altas PT Ultra. They're going to be coming out with POE and wifi CX cameras that are in the same body as the Argus 4, you will probably want to wait for that. You can see them on display at their IFA booth last Fall here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1faky74/ifa\_berlin\_2024\_reolink\_impressions/](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1faky74/ifa_berlin_2024_reolink_impressions/) And if you're on Facebook they teased them again at CES last week: [https://www.facebook.com/groups/reolink/posts/1637002700533600/](https://www.facebook.com/groups/reolink/posts/1637002700533600/)

ColorX cameras like the Argus 4 Pro do have great night vision (as you can see in my [review](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1dcpv2w/argus_4_pro_review_and_comparisons/)), but they need a tiny bit of ambient light to work with, like a porch light or street light, they aren't a good choice for a very dark environment. For that you need to stick with a traditional IR camera, which is of course going to use IR lighting for black and white night vision, like you're used to.

r/reolinkcam · Altas PT Ultra Review

I mean, that depends on if you would find the 180° view useful. Like I said above, it all comes down to features you want. The night image and resolution isn't going to be much different from the A3P. Yeah, it's higher resolution, but it's also a much larger image, so the extra resolution is needed for the larger image. Clarity would therefore be about the same.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro review and comparisons

As long as it is sensing motion it should keep recording. I assume you're talking about the post-motion recording time? That's just for once it stops seeing motion it will keep recording for 30 more seconds. If it's still seeing motion the entire time it should keep recording. I can vouch for that for a few minutes at least, but I've never tested it for anywhere near 30 minutes or whatever you're trying to get for your soccer game. Also, the detection distance of battery cameras isn't that far (30ft or so typically), so unless people are going to be that close to the camera the whole time it's not going to keep recording.

The PIR turns the camera on, and doesn't know about a zone. "Motion" just detects pixel movement. So if the camera turns on because a car drives by, and something within the motion zone moves at that same time you will get a "motion" alert.

In Reolink support pages it states battery cams do not charge well in freezing temps. If it's close to freezing they won't charge with solar panel. It also won't charge with plug in USB if the battery is too cold. You may need to bring it inside, warm up for several hours, charge with 5V 2A recommended charger then reinstall outside. For the snow/frost on the cam if you built or bought a cover for it that would help. Some custom make mounts and covers with 3D printers and sell them on etsy, printables, ebay, Amazon etc. When possilbe installing wire powered cams are better. You could check out Reolink's wire powered cams. YouTube channel LifeHackster reviews Reolink and other brands, shows how to install, use the apps, tests them.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro won't charge using POE Texas AC to USB adapter

Reolink recommends to only use a 5V 2A adapter to charge their cams. It seems their firmware or hardware is only capable of accepting this slow trickle charge. They also say not to keep the charger plugged into the camera 24/7. This will shorten the battery life. Battery cams do not charge well in cold temps. If it's close to freezing or below freezing they won't charge. You may have to take the cam inside, let it warm up then charge.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro – Spotlight stays on in Auto mode at night, how to fix?

This is a CX low light cam. It does not have IR lights. It needs some ambient light to see, street light, porch light. If there is not enough ambient light it's spotlights will stay on. If it had the option for lights to come on when it detects motion it would not detect very well, too dark. One option is to install motion lights for it, battery or wired. Or buy a cam with both IR and LED lights. Reolink should better explain how the CX cams work.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro charging issues via USB-C port and power adapters

Reolink battery cams don't seem to charge well with fast chargers or other power chargers other than the 5v 2a chargers they recommend. I assume it's built into the firmware. Your model my not have a battery light indicator so just look in the app for battery level. Youtube channel LifeHackster did a review of your cam if you want to watch. It's a low light cam, does not have IR lights so it needs some ambient light, porch light, street light otherwise it's spotlights may stay on all the time which will drain the battery faster. If you have enough ambient light you can set it so the spotlights only come on when it detects motion or keep them always off, whichever you want.

Thanks, I know what the camera looks like. I meant if you could take a pic of yours to show what screw you are talking about. Otherwise you'll just have to keep it tight so the cam doesn't move. Since I don't have this model maybe someone who does will comment.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro mounting

I assume it's a heavier cam with two lenses but I don't have one. There's several ways to mount your cam, maybe a pic would help to know for sure what you are talking about.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro with Solar Panel

No. It's built into the firmware to only record in short clips to save battery life. Leaving cam plugged in outlet won't change that. Reolink recommends not keeping battery cams plugged in, it will shorten the battery life because of the heat created during charging. Solar panels are okay to use, they charge the battery with less power which won't harm the battery. See top post "welcome to the official Reolink...' lots of info FAQs including the big differences between battery and wire powered cams, what cams to buy. Battery cams are better than no cams at all but wire powered cams are much better. The Reolink Altas has a huge battery and can record continuous for a few days. Get a wire powered cam for 24/7 recording, either low voltage wifi, mains powered or POE. POE is the best. You could watch Youtube channel LifeHackser, he reviews Reolink and other brands. Reolink makes a lot of cam models with different features so take your time researching before buying so you know what you are getting.

r/reolinkcam · charging at low temperatures / frost

As far as I know most brands battery cams do not charge well in freezing temps even with solar panel or plugging them in to charge. You'll have to wait for warmer temps or bring the cam inside, let it warm up then charge with recommended 5V 2A charger. The fast chargers may not work. Some brands models have removable batteries. Some of Reolink's older models had removable batteries. With removable batteries there is a bigger risk of water ingress. In my opinion a good height for mounting cams is about 10-12 feet above ground. You'll be able to see faces better than the tops of heads. When possible wire powered cams are the best.

    r/reolinkcam · Hiding away Argus 4 pro?

Some have painted their cams a different color or maybe use peel and stick contact paper. Painting them may void the warranty. Visible cameras are actually a deterrent to crime. Some years ago researchers interviewed prisoners convicted of burglary. Most said they avoided breaking into homes when they saw/heard dogs, saw cameras on the house or the neighbors were outside.

r/reolinkcam · Trouble with Argus 4 Pro and solar charging

Battery cams do not charge well in close to or freezing temps even with solar panel or plugged in to wire power charger. You may need to bring the cam insided, let it warm up then charge. The longer an electrical cable is the more they lose power, the solar panel cable may be too long to charge the cam as much as a shorter cable, especially in cold weather. When possilbe it's better to install wire powered cams, much better performace. I started out with battery cams, later realized their limitations, spent three days in the attic to install ethernet cables, bought POE cams, glad I did.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro Cloud storage

Reolink cloud storage with subscription depends where you live, they only offer a few cam models for cloud. Only those shown on USA list are supported. Most of us don't want to pay subscription. I record to cards in cams and NVR, some record to Home Hub. For free you can set up an email account and send detections to that. There's info how to do this on Reolink support site. Some rent server space with a company and send recordings there using FTP.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro USB-C Charging

Reolink recommends using 5V 2A charger. Others don't seem to work, don't use powerbanks or fast chargers. In cool temps batteries do not charge as well. In freezing temps they won't charge at all. You have to bring them in to warm up then charge.

    r/reolinkcam · Indoor Ceilling/Wall Camera

Battery cams are better than no cams at all but are inferior to wired cams. Read top post "welcome to the official.." there's a section there about what cams to buy, explaining the weaknesses of battery cams. Battery cams can sometimes record late or even miss events due to the PIR sensor they use. Wire powered cams use pixel detection which is more reliable. If possilbe go with a plug in wire powered cam like Reolink low voltage wifi cams. A 180 degrees cam likely would not work very well inside, there's be too much view of walls and light reflection off the walls at night. A PT or PTZ cam would work if you want to leave it with one view like the door but sometimes turn the cam to view the path to livingroom. A better choice would be tp get two fixed cams, one to always view the door, one to watch livingroom. Many of us use Reolink's E1 series cams for inside. You could watch YouTube channel LifeHackster, he reviews Reolink and other brands, shows how to install and use the apps. He has reviewed Reolink's E1 cams, one of them has optical zoom capability if you want that. The E1 cams are cheaper than the battery cams too.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 pro PIR issue

If this is happening mostly at night it's because the vehicle lights are bright and can easily be detected by the cam 150 feet away. Try turning down the detection sensitivity or point the cam so it doesn't see the road. All brands battery cams use PIR sensors which are less reliable than wired cams which use pixel detection. PIR sensors detect much better with motion across their field of view rather than something going straight to the cam. If someone walks straight to the cam it may not detect them until they are 15 feet from the lens, depending on your sensitivity setting. To save battery life, battery cams go in low power mode, only the PIR stays active. When it detects motion the rest of the camera comes to full power to record and send notification. This can cause them to record late or sometimes miss events. In top post "welcome to the official" there's a section comparing battery cams to wired cams.

r/reolinkcam · Best Placement for Argus 4 Pro Camera & Effect of Night Light on Motion Detection

During the day battery PIR detection range is roughly 25-30 feet with movement going across it's field of view, less with movement going straight toward the lens. At night detection range is shorter due to lack of light. Battery cams are better than no cams at all. In top post "welcome to the official" there's a section about what cams to buy, battery or wire powered, explaining wire powered cams are best, longer detection range, can record 24/7 so nothing is missed. For example my Reolink Argus 3 battery cam detects to about 25-30 feet. My Reolink POE cams can detect to 90 feet during day.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 pro - hardwire

No I don't think you can/should hard wire a battery cam. The color X cams work good in low light. They have LED lights but not IR lights. They need some light, porch light, street light to see. If there is not enough ambient light their spotlights come on, will stay on all night. One exception is a new color x model with both IR and LED lights.

Here is link to Reolink settings info about reducing false alarms. Battery cams use PIR sensors to detect motion. Wired cams use pixel detection which is better. Reolink does not explain exaclty what the reduce false alarms does. Something changes in the detection firmware. r/reolinkcam · Reolink Argus 4 pro not charging on solar

I'd move the solar panel so it gets more daily sun. Also, battery cams do not charge well in cold temps. Near freezing they charge very slowly, below freezing they will not charge at all no matter if using panel or plugged in. You may need to bring cam inside, warm up, then charge.

r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro solar panel can’t keep up?

Battery life depends how often a cam detects/records and amount of sun a solar panel gets. But also battery cams do not charge well in cold temps. In near freezing temps they charge very slow and can't keep up. Below freezing they can't charge at all. You either have to wait for warmer temps or take the cam down, bring it inside to warm up then charge. Before contacting Reolink again, bring cam inside, warm up, see it it takes a charge.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro - non-detection zone notifications

Experiment making the zone a little bigger for several days or a week until it stops detecting the neighbors. Yeah, gray out some of your garden if need be. The zone edge is not going to be perfect in terms of inches, more like several feet bigger. You could point the cam further down so the neighbor's house is not in it's view. My street is a non detect zone for my Duo 2. But sun shadows from cars, people walking on the sidewalk go beyond the zone, tree branch shadows moving in the wind beyond the zone cause the cam to trigger.

r/reolinkcam · Advice on reolink set up

"Does this make sense?" - In principle yes but you should assume the cameras will need to be charged every so often and that depends on the level of sunlight the panels receive. If you can go for the larger 12W panels as these optimise the occasional time the sun pops out in the UK and ensure the panel is located to catch sun for as much of the day as you can. But whist you indicate lack of skills/time for an ethernet system, are wired wifi cameras an option as these would be orders of magnitude better than a battery/solar camera. For example a solar camera depends on its pir to detect motion and then wake up. Add in the approx 10m pir range there is a fair chance of missing some of the action. Compare that to a wired camera which is permanently watching and allows for pre-roll. As an example, the Amazon van comes down the road, with a solar camera hopefully the detection is as the delivery person walks up the drive whilst the powered camera has recorded the van turning onto your road. This is a day & night difference. So yes, a solar camera is better than no camera but worse then a powered camera be that plug-in wifi or poe. And yes, if you connect the cameras to a Home Hub that allows viewing of live or recorded footage using the desktop client or mobile app

r/reolinkcam · Altas PT Ultra Review

Thank you so much for the review. I have a very naïve question, but first the context. I'm considering this camera for my front porch, which for various reasons can only accomodate a battery-powered camera. After reviewing your spreadsheet I picked up the Argus 4 Pro, because I need to be able to monitor our entire front yard, and the "180 degree" view seemed to be the only way to capture it all. My biggest issue is the delay in recording, which you side-by-side comparison captured perfectly. Just a couple of days ago we had someone walk through our front yard and the recording didn't start until after they were halfway through it. Since the Atlas PT Ultra is able to rotate and "auto-track" 360 degrees, does that mean it also detects motion with that range, or does the motion need to be right in front of the camera? Using my scenario from a few days ago, if the camera were facing our driveway (North-West) and someone starting walking through our yard from the East, would the camera detect them immediately and turn, or would it wait until they entered the camera's North-West FOV? Any advice would be appreciated and I acknowledge I need to get a powered camera out front, it's just not an option at this time. Thanks.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro — Battery Life

I have the same fw as that of the moderator and it is connected to the 6W solar panel. I never saw the charge less than 85% and it is used on average 120 min per day. It has at least 4-5 hours of direct Sun.

    r/reolinkcam · App speed question

If you are able to run cat6 cables to the location of the cameras, then opt for POE models. The time taken to run the cables really pays off. 24x7 recordings, pixel detection meaning longer range (up to 30m or beyond), immediate access, pre-event recording, cannot be jammed by a 20E device, with a centralised UPS you can back all the POE camera, switch and router, easy to interface with 3rd party application using RTSP, etc Battery cams relies on PIR for detection with max detection range of 10m. This depends on many factors such as temperature (the higher the less the PIR becomes sensitive to IR), object movement (across, approaching), etc. Normally the cam is in cold state where the PIR and the WIFI circuits are the only ones draining current. Once PIR is triggered it will trigger the application to start running. Sometimes if the object passes fast enough, the camera will not capture it. You have a motion detection with no object.

r/reolinkcam · Switching Arlo and have a few questions

    1. Of course you can view the event history bot locally and remotely. You have have a filter criteria too. Note that once the camera is connected to the HHP then the only way to see it is through the HHP. 2. You have the the scene modes with three configured scenes and you can add a further three. You can disarm, arm, etc. However, there is not yet the schedule and subsequently you need to re-arm again. We have asked for a status and a scheduler (say re-arm after 60 min). 3. If your home WIFI is strong at the location of the cameras then it is recommended to use it rather than the WIFI provided by the HHP. HHP's WIFI is not that strong. This is what I did in my case. 4. Depends how often the camera is triggered. I have Argus 4 Pro, Argus PT Ultra, Argus 3 Ultra and Pro and they are mostly fully charged through the 6W Solar panel. Eg. On the 17th the Argus 4 Pro has been used for 162min and had direct sun for 4 hours. Before I slept I checked and it had a charged of 90%. 5. Yes you can do 24x7 recording but only and only if the camera is POE or plug-in WIFI. There is no 24x7 recording on battery cameras with the exception of Altas. Note: Normally we store the recordings on both the internal SD (ensure you purchase high endurance SD) and the HHP/NVR. Normal practice is to have event recording on SD and 24x7 recording on NVR/HHP. This is not applicable for battery cams in which case you shall have event recording on both SD and HHP/NVR.

    r/homesecurity · Reolink 4k Wi-Fi: Hub + cams - Replacing Blink - Advice Requested

PoE is the only reliable way for security cameras. Wi-Fi is not reliable, you will have issues. And you are buying the worst kind which is battery powered, those cameras will be borderline useless. Besides, those are color night vision cameras, you can't use them in a place where it is pitch black/poorly lit, they require great lighting in the whole area they will be looking at. Yes they are a step up from Blink, but if you want a proper system you don't regret buying then that's PoE, and if you can run PoE then you shouldn't be running anything Wi-Fi.

    r/reolinkcam · Which NVR?

I'd suggest buying professional NVR from Reolink. You are future proofing with this. If you are located in an urban zone then you will definitely want the professional models, just because of the perimeter protection feature and other types of detection. Just note that the CX models are still better. So you want a combination of CX models where lighting is great and professional models where lighting sucks/pitch black. Also you only have CX820s in your setup? Just if you don't know these are color night vision cameras so you can only use them properly in places where there is exceptional good lighting at night. Otherwise it will look like crap. So all areas of your home better look like a christmas tree at night, including the streets in the area where you live... Same for the argus cameras... And I'd replace argus 4 pro with PoE cameras btw... Battery powered cameras or Wi-Fi cameras are no good. I'd swap them for 2 Elite Pro Floodlight PoE or wait until Reolink releases for xPro version if the place the camera overlooks is well lit at night. But you do you...

Yes it times out after 5 minutes. You can reconnect, but you will have a gap of let's say 5 seconds in which the camera goes to sleep and wakes back up. Moreover when continuesly streaming at least some models discharge faster then that the battery can charge, so it can still run out of battery even if it is permanently plugged in

r/reolinkcam · Atlas PT Ultra Vs the Argus 4 Pro, image quality?

Had nothing but problems with both of these. Moreso the Altas PT Ultra because it constantly would lose the default position I set it to and record nothing. Both were too slow to capture motion as it started but the 4 Pro being so wide, it at least got some of the person at the extremes. Also, if you're in an area that gets cold in the winter, they'll stop charging and die mid-season. My 4 Pro never woke back up after it got warm and sunny. So I have to climb up and get it. I returned the PT Ultra because it was so bad at everything so I don't know if it improved. Even tho only 2K, the Altas 2K is significantly better than the PT Ultra because it can manage 24hr pre-record and even continuous recording overnight and still get topped off if the panel is in direct sunlight during the day. Still has problems staying charged in the cold, but will turn itself back on if it charges back from depleted. Placed in the same location with the panel facing the same way, the PT ultra constantly died for me. Exchanged and same result. But overall, if you can do wired POE, do that instead. The Duo 2 still has much taller vertical view than the Argus 4 Pro and even the Duo 3. I prefer the CX410 POE for Color X, but happy enough with Altas 2K in areas I can't run wire.

Yeah, the big issue is with charging. So if the -30C temps are only happening a couple days out of the year, probably no big deal. If they're happening for an extended period, now you're talking about needing to take them down and bring them inside to charge. In the middle of winter.  PoE cams are just better overall anyway, apart from a few situations where it's just not practical to run wire out to them.

r/reolinkcam · charging at low temperatures / frost

Uhhh serious flaw?? Sorry little bro, but physics applies to battery tech lol. They do sell batteries that can survive lower temps. There are cost benefits and drawbacks to any technology. If you live in such a cold place you probably should’ve bought cameras designed for that or better yet PoE. Not many lithium ion batteries can operate at those temps without risk of fire. Those temps damage the batteries. The battery management system will severely reduce the charging and power output at those temps. It probably is charging but at a reduced rate.

r/reolinkcam · Trouble with Argus 4 Pro and solar charging

The PT Ultra does not seem to have any problems (PIR always enabled when we are not in the garden) and provides a very good night vision. I've neven seen the battery of that thing drop. That was the reason for getting the Argus 4 Pro. With that device I feel you. That was the reason I got the 12w solar panel from Reolink. Got my first doubts when the camera originally charged (indoor) with about 7-8w while a 6w solar panel is given. I really hoped, that 12w would fix that specifc problem. At the moment it is at least enough to hold the battery at some level during day time - but there was not much movement the last days: No mail service, no visitors and we are not leaving for or coming from work.

r/reolinkcam · Trouble with Argus 4 Pro and solar charging

Pretty nice idea, but I first would need another cable for that. The solar panel is placed in our garder (southern side) and the cam is mounted on the other side. Therefor I placed the cable within a cable tunnel on the roof of the garage. Getting on top of that roof is somewhat annoying and there I would be easier to just get the cam down :-D Sadly you can't disconnect the cable from the solarpanel itself - that would be a very handy, because I can get at the point easily. At one point I would disagree with you: It WOULD help in cold conditions. The battery may does not charge, but the camera seems to use to provided power for operating. During daytime the battery level does not drop at least. So a powerpack could provide the power needed during daytime and nighttime. Maybe I have to check some solution around that.

r/reolinkcam · Trouble with Argus 4 Pro and solar charging

Thank you for your reply and the helpful information. I hope, thet camera will charge within the next days. I am not eager to get that thing down every week and charge it. Would be bad whenever we are on winter vacation or something like that. Within the last weeks / month some groups of people were moving through our village and tried to break in and/or damaged cars at the driveways. We hoped to get least some warning time / time to call the police or at least even get some proof for the insurance companies (some try to refuse to pay due to made-up reasons like 'you care was not locked' or 'you likely let your door open'). Until now we were lucky enough so nothing happened to us, but you never know when.

r/reolinkcam · Trouble with Argus 4 Pro and solar charging

Thank you for your quick response. I thought, 2°C would be enough according to Reolinks specifications. Seems that I am wrong here. Probably the same with the Reolink extensions cable and the cables length. :-/ I would have prefered wired cameras, too. Not only for power reasons, but also to prevent someone from jamming my WiFi signal. Problem is: There is no outdoor power source - not to speek of any available RJ45 / network cable connection. When we bought our house and moved in, I improvised network cable connection to not rely on WiFi for our indoor devices (computers, entertainment, smarthome ...), but I would rather not punch holes in the insulation of our house myself. Could get pretty expensive if done wrong.

r/reolinkcam · Elite XPro vs Duo 3 vs Elite Floodlight vs Argus 4 Pro at Night

I understand. The Argus 4 pro I’ve only been able to use it for a narrow one way road to a gate. Seemed fine. But vertical FOV allows a greater angle of attack when pointing it downwards. Without it, it just creates a long blind spot either up top or down below where someone could say, skirt the wall and just sneak around not standing in front of it

Yeah I’ve installed 500+ reolink cameras in the last 3 years. Huge supporter. Only one in my area to put these up. I promise that motion is enabled on all parameters. r/reolinkcam · Detection and Recording Issues – NEW Argus 4 Pro Camera

I guess do some more research on your own because you're not seeming to it anything from my replies or the other guy's replies. LifeHackster is good on YouTube. The issue is, you're using a battery/solar powered camera that uses a PIR sensor, and all of your issues are inherent of every camera that uses a PIR sensor for initial detection, no matter the brand. The Altas fixes that with it's larger internal battery and 10 second low FPS pre-recording option, or the always recording low FPS mode, where once the AI detects an option, it increases the FPS.

r/reolinkcam · Detection and Recording Issues – NEW Argus 4 Pro Camera

It’s detecting you because you’re live viewing it at the same time, so the algorithm that detects what the object is, is actively running and analyzing the video feed. It doesn’t start recording because the PIR sensor isn’t detecting you, as PIR sensors frequently don’t. I have one at the top of my mom’s driveway and even on the highest settings, it missed entire cars driving directly at it and past it often enough, but it’s 600’ away from power, so it’s the only option until I visit and install the Altas camera, which seems like what you are wanting.

r/reolinkcam · Detection and Recording Issues – NEW Argus 4 Pro Camera

That's just how all battery power/solar charged cameras with PIR sensors work. If you download the Ring app and watch for people to post incidents, it almost always includes something along the lines of 'my camera didn't catch it, didn't start recording in time, stopped recording early, etc.' It's a shame Reolink won't enable longer post-motion record times, as 30 seconds is on the very short end IMO, Eufy's battery/solar powered cameras offer options up to 120 seconds. Plus Eufy has released a larger solar panel, and many other solar panel options have also increased the size of their panels the past year or two. Your best option is to figured out how to get power to the place you want a camera. 24/7 recording is a must nowadays IMO, or at least something with some pre-record and longer post-record, like their Altas cameras offer, which are also battery/solar.

r/reolinkcam · Duo 3 (16mp) vs Argus 4 Pro (ColorX) vs Elite Floodlight (lights off)

Really depends on your power vs no power situation, and then if you do have power, is it wall power or PoE power. If you can tap into an exterior light bulb socket to get 5v USB power, that’s better than any solar powered/battery camera. WiFi light bulbs are cheap af nowadays (set to auto off/on sunset to sunrise), if you don’t want to leave the light socket power on 24/7, even though LEDs are efficient enough that they basically use next to nothing when it comes to power, and lumens aren’t linear, so the difference between an 8w “800 lumen 60w” bulb and a 16w 1600w/100w equivalent bulb probably isn’t worth it if you live somewhere for electricity rates are high. Lots of different options and factors.

if the camera is less than 2 years old (2.5 years if you've registered with with reolink) then it might be best to arrange for a warranty fix / replacement. it could be the charge controller chip on the cameras main board that's gone, But unless you are good at sourcing a component that is likely sold only on bandoleers of 1000, and have the skills and tools to do surface mount soldering on a densely populated board without damaging nearby components in the process, it's not something most home users could replace at home... And that's assuming something else further along did not blow the chip in the first place that is... if it even is this issue. Of course it 'could' be the battery at fault, i assume it's an 18650 LI-ion cell, possibly a protected one, so the batteries internal protection module may have shut the battery down, but is voiding the warranty on a £/$150 camera worth it if it turns out not to be a battery issue.

    r/reolinkcam · App speed question

so.. the pir sensor can become useless in higher temps, and the battery is useless in lower temps (stops charging at 2°C, as trying to charge a lithium battery near freezing can be very bad for it) then the missed fast moving objects... battery cams are worse than i thought, : We use our (poe) cams to watch wildlife, and get lots of short motion triggers as something runs at 90° past the camera, we only get to see what they are because our cameras are on all the time and using pixel changes for detection, so they react instantly, and also they have a couple of seconds worth of pre-motion buffer... so you see what was happening just before the camera was triggered, . Now i know why i read lots of people with battery cameras asking why they have lots of motion recordings with nothing to see, What ever was triggering the battery cam is long gone by the time the camera has woken up from it's power saving state and started recording. Running POE cables is a one off job most people will need to do once in their lifetime for the house they live in, and you can quickly upgrade the cameras over the next few decades as technology improves reusing the POE cables.

I had a similar issue, it seems that if the battery gets below a certain level, it won't recharge on solar alone. During a previous winter, we had very dark skies (rain, snow, etc) for about 3 months, and I went an entire month without enough sunlight to keep the camera charged. Is it possible that where you have your solar panel isn't getting enough sunshine to keep up? (this could be especially true if, in combination, you've got all the auto-tracking/notification options turned on, making the camera burn through it's battery power faster).

Update: Reolink request the warranty service, so the camera will be exchanged by another one. I'm very confident the problem will persist, the camera won't work offline. I did the following test: enabled the internet in the network, checked the camera was working, and removed the internet cable from the router, the issue persists, no camera access. r/reolink · One day with Reolink and it's going back for a refund

I put one of the cameras outside this afternoon and it disconnected quickly. It is probably about 40 feet from the hub but only about 10 feet from one of the mesh antennas. Based on this performance I'm assuming the camera is out of reach of the hub and that the fact it is close to one of the mesh antennas doesn't matter (which is a crappy way to do it if true).

r/reolink · One day with Reolink and it's going back for a refund

Both cameras were connected to the network first (before I set up the hub and added them). Regardless of whether I had them connected to the hub or the network, they quickly went offline. I even tried designating them to only use the 2.4GHz network at Reolink support's recommendation. But that didn't work either. So they're going back. That is if Reolink ever sends me an RMA.

Given your Home Assistant note, tbh I would lean [Reolink Argus 4 Pro](https://featherab.com/shopit?q=Reolink%2BArgus%2B4%2BPro%2Bhub) unless the Eufy app experience matters more than everything else. I went through a similar upgrade decision, and the familiar brand was tempting, but integration quality ended up mattering more day to day. [eufyCam S3 Pro](https://featherab.com/shopit?q=eufyCam%2BS3%2BPro%2Bhub) makes sense if you want to stay in the Eufy ecosystem and keep the app workflow close to what you know. Reolink Argus 4 Pro is the more interesting pick if cost and Home Assistant are priorities. Either way, WiFi battery cams are still a compromise, so I would avoid expecting true wired-camera reliability from either one.

r/SecurityCamera · Every "best outdoor security camera" guide I found contradicts the last one. Real owners only, what actually works in 2026

**I went through the same spiral last year so here is what actually stuck for me.** **Arlo Essential XL is solid hardware and image quality is good. the problem is person and vehicle tagging and anything past basic motion alerts sits behind a paid tier. I keep telling myself I could live without it and then it annoyed me again each weeks.** **Reolink Argus 4 Pro is legitimately good. I went other direction mostly because of the multi camera app experience, not because the camera itself was bad.** **What I ended up with is eufy SoloCam S340, running it six months now. the no subscription story holds in real use. Clips lands on about 8GB of internal storage, you can get to them in the app, no plan needed for the basics. HomeBase 3 is optional if you want centralized storage later, you do not need it just to skip a monthly fee. The dual lens help on a driveway, wide for coverage, tighter view for plate level detail. Night vision uses a spotlight for color, IR when it is fully dark.** **But,S340 is event based recording, not 24 hour continuous like a wired NVR setup. different product if you need always on recording.** **It fit me because it is standalone with no hub required, the no sub promise stayed true day to day, and the dual lens solved my driveway layout. Your priorities might weight things differently, still worth a shortlist spot.**

    r/SecurityCamera · Reolink Argus 4 Pro Review - 4K Video | 180º FOV | NO FEES!

I didn't use any backup power. It's kind of hard to say how long solar will last since it will depend on the weather where you live. If you live somewhere sunny like Florida, technically you might be able to keep it topped up all year long. If you like somewhere with lots of overcast days, rainy days or has a Winter season, then you will likely need to top up the battery periodically. Another consideration is that if your home has tons of movement or foot or car traffic that passes by, the camera's motion detection may be triggered constantly and also record constantly, quickly draining the battery. If you want minimal downtime, I'd go with a hard-wired option from Reolink. TP-Link's Tapo cameras are really good value too.

r/reolinkcam · charging at low temperatures / frost

Yea it’s a battery related limitation but of cause it’s only mentioned in the spec and inside faq. In my experience the battery won’t charge but the power from the solar panel may keep it running even if battery isn’t charging and depleted? My solar panel is in a very badly lit location and I repurposed a Blink outdoor usb c power adapter. Had to cut up the plug a little to make it fit my Argus 4 Pro. There is a plug in icon now showing in the app and when the battery isn’t charging and depleted the camera continues to work albeit in limited fashion. Eg light won’t come up ones the battery dips below 15% I think? Surprisingly even though past week or so we had below -10C the battery remains at 99% and works as expected so a bit weird but I’m not complaining :P

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro USB-C Charging

I ended up getting this Blink Outdoor USBC charger https://a.co/d/6weAyvc The plug was too big but I cut away until it fit the reolink port. I retained the weather seal and it works great. I only realized after some troubleshooting that the Reolink Argus 4 Pro lithium-Ion battery will only charge if the surround temperature is above 0C. Other limitation is that it’s not very long. I’m surprised reolink does not sell a solution like this or at least I couldn’t find one.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro USB-C Charging

Reolink charging is extremely confusing because they opted to use usb-C port but do not support usb-C. You can only charge them using usb-A (power) to usb-C (camera). I don't think they explain this. Using to usb-C (power) to usb-C (camera) won't charge at all because reolink uses cheap technology that will not negotiate the usb-c charging handshake. Specifically usb-C charging requires a configuration channel (CC) pin to identify the camera as a 'power sink', since that is not present, usb-C chargers will not deliver any charge because the camera does not know how to ask for it. tl;dr: Reolink is violating usb specifications by using usb-c ports.

r/reolinkcam · Detection and Recording Issues – NEW Argus 4 Pro Camera

I honestly can’t figure out which model to choose, and this whole situation feels kind of absurd. I mean… humanity went to the moon, but we still don’t have an efficient solar-powered camera that just works. Right now, I’m looking into the only Atlas options I can find: 1. **Reolink Atlas PT Ultra** – but I’ve read several reviews saying the battery life is too short. 2. **Reolink Atlas** – but this one only has a 90° FOV, compared to the 180° on my Argus 4 Pro, which feels like a big downgrade. My setup is a house in the mountains, where I’d really like to rely on a solar panel since I don’t want to run wired power. But maybe, given my needs, wired power is the only realistic solution? What’s even more confusing is that I have a cheap $30 iGeek solar camera that actually detects people reliably, while my $200 Argus 4 Pro misses them. That makes no sense to me. I was also considering the **Tapo C425**, which has a 135° FOV, but if it relies on PIR for detection, then it’s the same old problem and nothing changes. 👉 Do you have any recommendation for a better model (Reolink or another brand) that could solve this, or do I really just need to invest in wired power?

r/reolinkcam · Detection and Recording Issues – NEW Argus 4 Pro Camera

I understand what you mean about the limitations of battery/solar cameras and the short recording duration, but in my case that’s not the issue. My camera does detect the person (it even shows the detection icon), but the recording doesn’t start at all. So it’s not about the clip being too short or a slight delay. The problem is that the camera fails to record despite detecting the person.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro — Battery Life

Yep! I forget all about those settings. I’ve just been in the HHP settings and the individual camera settings. Going to “Me” and finding settings there became unintuitive to me I suppose. Well, that’s one more thing sussed out. Here’s another thing I noticed. When I’m in the app and engaging with a camera in any way (even just settings and not live view), and I go back to the home page, the camera doesn’t always go back to “standby” status. It continues to have a green dot (instead of the orange dot for standby) and say connected. This is probably getting closer to my battery drain issue. It seems that sometimes they automatically switch back to standby, and sometimes they are just staying connected. All the settings for each camera is the same. Any idea what I’m doing (or not doing) that is causing that? When I back out of the individual camera interface it should go back to standby.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro — Battery Life

So… I went to the battery settings page and it shows battery use by day. For some reason the running time since 8/6 is MASSIVE. So that’s the source of the battery drain I guess. Day 2 day it’s showing approx 250 mins, 130 mins the next day, 200 mins the next day, 70 mins the next, etc…. With that being said, I’ve checked all the settings and there’s nothing I can see that should be causing that. PIR is off. Live viewing has been minimal. Which leads me to this question; is there something more I should be doing in the iOS app besides exiting the camera page and going back to the home page? Is something getting hung-up and still “viewing” the live camera? I always make sure I exit the live view. On that point, why does the app open to a last-used camera live view sometimes (or maybe it’s every time), when the last time you used the app you went to the home page before finishing with it? It’s very aggravating. Not only for battery use concerns (that may not be an actual issue at all, but it’s concerning considering my problem right now), but also just the fact that when I trying to open the app quickly and go to a camera I don’t want it to default open to any camera, I want it to go to the home page where I left it. I’m not sure how much closing the app or just leaving it open in the background makes. I guess knowing the pros and cons of that could be important for people. Should the app be left open in the background or closed every time when finished with it? I’m troubleshooting right now by resetting the camera, charging it fully, double checking settings, and putting it back up for close monitoring of battery life and the reported “running time”.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 Pro — Battery Life

Thanks for the great reply. I just recently had a firmware update support ticket with Reolink, as I wanted to make sure I was running current firmware with the new cameras. I just checked and my A4P is on v3.0.0.4967_25060581. It looks like they intentionally didn’t update mine to the newest firmware for whatever reason, but that is new enough that it certainly shouldn’t be causing any issues I’d think. I’ll open a ticket with them for this cameras battery life issues.

I’m liking several things about the 4 Pro but the vertical field of view is a bummer, it definitely feels way less than the advertised 50°. In my application I would actually benefit a lot from running the 180° vertically. Do you know if the camera will adjust and show correctly flipped vertically like that?

    r/reolinkcam · I'd Argue Pro 3 RTPS compatible with Home Hub ?

I need to clarify, On any of these battery cameras...if you have motion detection/recording enabled and configured, these cameras will not timeout the RTSP stream as long as recording is happening. So if it's a busy area or if you have a lot of activity going on....you should be able to monitor RTSP with minimal timeouts. This has been my experience.

    r/reolinkcam · I'd Argue Pro 3 RTPS compatible with Home Hub ?

The RTSP streams are only available from the home hub. You'll have a separate URL for each camera. Battery cameras work just fine but they will timeout after around 5 minutes. Using VLC on my smart TVs inside my LAN the streams load in about 3 seconds. It's quite usable. Argus 4 Pro connected to a power source has been hit or miss with the timeout. Sometimes it ends in 5 minutes and sometimes it'll go for over an hour. Altas PT Ultra (connected to power) and Lumus Pro do not timeout. Argus 3 will timeout regardless of battery, solar, or AC power. You need to use the Reolink Windows app to get to the advanced settings of your Home Hub to enable RTSP. This is how your URL will look... rtsp://admin:password@ipaddress:port/Preview_01_main Just replace 01 with 02 etc for each camera. Obviously use your own IP address, port, and username/password. Hope this helps anyone. I just switched from Eufy cameras to Reolink mainly for this feature and I have been very happy with it.

    r/reolinkcam · Argus 4 pro - hardwire

True, but being a product new to market it will be tariffed from release; whereas the other products already in country distribution centers would still be sold at pre-tariff margins. So the Argus 4 Pro will still be in the $150 range (for a time at least), while the new Argus 4 PoE will be closer to $300. And yes, we're in the dumbest of timelines.

Update 2: I’m pretty sure Home Assistant is at fault. With it added to HA battery drain (and LED on) were constant. With the device disabled in HA off the drain and constant flood light have stopped. Guess there’s bug. My battery doorbell does not have this problem with drain.

This one did. It has two settings “auto” or “off”. Others online report the same thing, does your Argus Pro 4 only activate the flood lights with PIR? https://community.reolink.com/topic/14932/argus-4-pro-no-automatic-spotlight

Good to know! I had to reboot my camera multiple times, take it down and charge via a wall outlet twice, and it finally started working ok. The battery is no better than the Ultras, but I need the wide angle view so I kept it. Hope yours improves!

Thanks for your reply. I have considered the extension cord approach... I have an identical unit mounted to the south side of my house, and it maintains 100% all the time. Even in below freezing conditions. I assume it stays warm enough to charge, from sunlight heating.

r/reolinkcam · Best Placement for Argus 4 Pro Camera & Effect of Night Light on Motion Detection

Thanks for your response. What is the PIR range of the Argus 4 Pro? I ran some tests and noticed some unusual behavior. If a person is within the camera’s field of view but outside the PIR range, will the camera still wake up and send an alert? I also observed that on one side of the camera, motion is detected from a farther distance, whereas on the other side—where there is no lighting—it doesn’t pick up movement as well. It seems like the presence of light helps the camera detect me, but on the darker side, it struggles. Additionally, I don’t have a glass door—just a basic steel door. I noticed that when I stand behind it, the camera does not detect motion.

r/reolinkcam · Atlas PT Ultra Vs the Argus 4 Pro

Thank you so much for your response. I will not be needing the continuous recording, however the pre recording feature of Altas is amazing. 32F won’t be applicable to me. With Argus 4 pro, the advantage is 180 view, so would require exactly 4 cameras to cover all the house. However, its battery is 1/4 of Atlas. I also feel image quality of Atlas is better than Argus.

r/reolinkcam · Adding Argus 4 Pro to NVR

Yea this is one of the annoyances I have with the NVRs, the newer Home Hub (and Pro) supports this again but comes with other caveats, like not being possible to use SDcards or run the cameras separately. I wish NVRs supported maintaining remotely.

r/reolinkcam · I have some questions about the color night vision on the Argus 4 Pro

I imagine what you are seeing is a result of the moon. If image #1 was taken before the moon had come up, and there is no light for that side of the house, you would get the resulting black image like you have. If in image #3 it was taken a bit later into the night allowing the moon to come up (I have no idea where you are but I can see the light is coming from the right of the image with the shadows going to the left of the image), then that would be a result of the ColorX of the camera you have. The ColorX needs a little bit of light to work. Not a lot, but not none either. And no, it doesn't have IR lights either. So you can choose to keep the camera and add light, or add/swap to a different camera that has IR.

All those solar panels are a joke! I bought me a 300W SP for my cameras and charge 4 of them from it. What is this SP rated for? 3W? Maybe 5W if you lucky. See the power consumption of your camera and do your math.

I don't think that's the best solution, because the camera should do what the brand promises. I also have a Eufy camera and in their app you can draw the detection zones, it works differently to the way Reolink works, but it works.

The Argus 3 Pro is a much more budget camera. I would imagine Argus 4 Pro is the same. Anything that can Pan/Tilt & Zoom... is going to beat the Argus 4 Pro. The only camera in my opinion that shouldn't be pan tilt and zoom is a floodlight camera. Also.. man isn't that Argus 4 Pro Ugly or is it just me? lol

r/reolinkcam · Last night I was able to catch Aurora Borealis again! 😊 Seems that with Altas PT Ultra and continuous recording it’s really easier than before 😊

About 20% by the last twenty-four hours with 13 hours continuous recording, simultaneously creating time-lapse (interval 10s), uploading to FTP, downloading captured after it and about 1hour connected time for the live view. I don't have enough statistic yet, but looks like charging by 6W solar panel is not enough to hold battery charged with pre-record constantly enabled. Reolink does not promise it, by the way. Only new features and bigger battery. Hope that spotted at the exhibition 12W solar panel helps a bit to keep camera charged even with pre-record. By the way, pre-record can be scheduled to several hours a day and I sure it's possible to find optimal balance by using partly PIR and partly pre-record even with 6W solar panel My Argus 4 Pro can't record timelapse(interval 10s) at night more than 7 hours, by the way, but Argus (not Altas) PT Ultra can record similar timelapse at night for 12 hours without problems. Seems that 2 streams and image stitching requires 2x energy, but battery has the same capacity

Hey mate, could I please pick your brain on one more thing. When you set the recording time to 30 seconds when motion is detected. What is the gap between the first recording, second recording and third recording if there is constant motion for a period of time? Does the camera just do constant 30seconds clips till the motion stops or does it record 30sec and waits a period of time to begin recording a second motion detection? Thanks so much again.

r/reolinkcam · Another Review of the Reolink Argus 4 Pro ;)

It only needs to last 1 hour which I’m sure it is very capable of doing. But a small powerbank should be able to help if it is needed. Someone did say to me that manual record will only do 8min and 18 seconds. From all other options I have seen this is still the most viable and the best part is there is no fees. I’m actually considering buying it and testing the motion detection on a full game and live recording 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 it catches at least 95% of the game

r/reolinkcam · Another Review of the Reolink Argus 4 Pro ;)

I reached out to reolink to try resolve the issues, but unfortunately they couldn't really help, their suggestions were reset the camera and try it in another place with consistent lighting, works fine when the lighting is consistent but whose going to use a panoramic camera in a space like that? I ended up getting great consistency across the feed by turning off the auto colour night view settings and changing the values, but then when I back out of settings and swipe to another camera, then back again, the settings change themselves and the image is blown out/too dark again. Very inconsistent, needs some good software reworking.

r/SecurityCamera · Security camera needed for my small house under 1k AUD please
