r/reolinkcam · More Reolink frustration…do Argus 3 Ultras just stink? I believe with motion detection it works best for movement that goes from side to side, as opposed to coming straight up to the front of the camera. Its definitely worth experimenting with positioning.

Can you show us a screenshot of your camera's info? HW version, FW version specifically. Also, a screenshot of the playback screen showing that it's continuous recording. It's not that I don't believe you, but this is the first I've heard of this and it's huge news if true, so I want to see proof. In regards to your larger point... Reolink is a very risk averse company when it comes to giving users features. If they think users will be confused and/or get angry about a feature not working the way the user thinks it should work, they're not going to give them that feature. I can tell you exactly what would happen if they gave all of their small battery cameras continuous recording.... people would complain when the battery is at 10% in 1 day, and dead a day after that because it's winter and doesn't get warm enough for it to charge. Returns would skyrocket. That's already happened with the Altas series and its battery is 3.5-4x the size of the ones you're talking about. You seem to be having good luck, but from what I see in posts here, you're in the minority. I extensively tested both Altas models when they came out, and am currently still using one of them, and if I wanted to use continuous recording I could only do so maybe half the year. r/reolinkcam · Advice on reolink set up >I don't have the skills or time to create a wired, ethernet system so I have decided on wifi solar-powered battery cameras. Then just make sure you're aware of the drawbacks of battery cameras. You will miss events sometimes, you'll miss the beginnings of events, you'll miss the end of events. If you live in an area that doesn't get much sun in the winter, or it gets down to 32F/0C for extended periods of time the you may find the solar panels can't keep the camera charged. Many have said the same thing as you only to regret it later and wish they had put in the time to do it properly. FYI, it doesn't have to be ethernet. Even a plug-in powered wifi camera is miles better than a battery camera. r/reolinkcam · Making the change over to Reolink - need advice for first location (pics) With a 20 dollars device they can jam your WIFI. Have you ruled out passing cat 6 cables? Battery cams rely on PIR and sometimes they miss the object. Short range....max 10m. No pre-recording when event is triggered. If triggered a lot and there are cloudy days, the battery will drain. No 24x7 recordings. Delay in establishing communication. Chubby audio and video freezing if WIFI signal is mot strong enough.
r/reolinkcam · Switching Arlo and have a few questions 1. Of course you can view the event history bot locally and remotely. You have have a filter criteria too. Note that once the camera is connected to the HHP then the only way to see it is through the HHP. 2. You have the the scene modes with three configured scenes and you can add a further three. You can disarm, arm, etc. However, there is not yet the schedule and subsequently you need to re-arm again. We have asked for a status and a scheduler (say re-arm after 60 min). 3. If your home WIFI is strong at the location of the cameras then it is recommended to use it rather than the WIFI provided by the HHP. HHP's WIFI is not that strong. This is what I did in my case. 4. Depends how often the camera is triggered. I have Argus 4 Pro, Argus PT Ultra, Argus 3 Ultra and Pro and they are mostly fully charged through the 6W Solar panel. Eg. On the 17th the Argus 4 Pro has been used for 162min and had direct sun for 4 hours. Before I slept I checked and it had a charged of 90%. 5. Yes you can do 24x7 recording but only and only if the camera is POE or plug-in WIFI. There is no 24x7 recording on battery cameras with the exception of Altas. Note: Normally we store the recordings on both the internal SD (ensure you purchase high endurance SD) and the HHP/NVR. Normal practice is to have event recording on SD and 24x7 recording on NVR/HHP. This is not applicable for battery cams in which case you shall have event recording on both SD and HHP/NVR.

I put them up in areas with low motion and I charge them about once a year, so I don't have this same bad battery life. I don't have a home hub, so potentially the home hub is requiring them to turn on and function too much. Is it possible to use solar panels with them? They are intended to be used with solar panels but maybe it's not possible in your use case.

r/reolinkcam · Battery cams: the next step? Yes, I’m recording on a Reolink SD card. If you see gaps, it’s just because I set my continuous recording schedule at 9am today (after checking the weather for the week). So it’s configured to run from 9am to 2pm (schedule is 7pm → 2pm), and it only started today at 9. There are still some bugs though. For example today, on another camera in the back (also an Argus 3 Ultra), continuous recording started at 10am, and it randomly recorded a single 112-minute block in one go. Look: https://imgur.com/a/aMs4sDE Aside from that, it works really well. With the 6W panel in full sun, staying at 100% is basically guaranteed. They really need to bring Smart Battery Mode to all their battery cameras because it's really frustrating having to constantly plan and re-plan continuous recording schedules depending on the weather of the day.

r/reolinkcam · More Reolink frustration…do Argus 3 Ultras just stink? That’s correct! PIR works a lot better with changes from one side to the other left - right axis, in comparison to forwards - backwards. That’s why you can sometimes leave your house without triggering the sensor.

r/reolinkcam · Extremely Terrible Argus 3 Pro/Ultra Battery Performance Another quick update: everything seems to be 100% resolved and the cameras seem to be performing as expected. Since two days ago, the cameras have only dropped a couple percent and in the last day it hasn't even moved, battery-wise. I re-added the Home Hub to Home Assistant as well and the camera hasn't woken up or drained excessively, indicating the problem wasn't the HA integration either.
r/reolinkcam · Extremely Terrible Argus 3 Pro/Ultra Battery Performance Ok, looks like some good news: After resetting the Hub & the 2 Ultras (one is added directly to the app, one is added to the newly reset Hub) as well as leaving the cameras in a room with no movement, things appear to be much better. I saw 1-2% decrease in battery life overnight. Both of these cams had default settings except for the IR and spotlight turned off. I'll check later today to see if the drain has really gone away, but I am definitely not experiencing the same issue as before because I would have seen 5-10% drop in battery overnight if I was. u/Willson1_ also posted below asking for some info, which I will send over to them to see if there's anything else they can check on their side. For future 3 Ultra & Pro purchasers that run into the same thing, my firmware is the latest available (as of the date of this post) for both the Hub & cameras and I did not change or upgrade the firmware since resetting them, so everything is still the same firmware, despite appearing to be much better. Once they're both charged, I'll see whether there's a difference and hopefully that'll identify the issue. I'm glad at least that my situation is atypical because it means there isn't something inherently wrong with the product, but there's clearly just some factor that I should be able to fix

Though I don’t have the solar panels connected right now, two days with zero events and 50% battery loss wouldn’t even be mitigated by having them connected. Seems like something is wrong. I have to try and full reset and factory restore of the entire system today, but otherwise these will go back since defective hardware is the only other thing I can think of at this point

Argus 3 fungerar även uselt med Googlr home tyvärr, det går inte att se videostreamen genom att klicka på kameran som brukligt, utan du kan endast se bilden i översikten. Så spar dig själv en massa arbete och frustration; köp något som är anpassat för vårat klimat, jag ångrar mina inköp av denna modell. Detta är synd på en i övrigt bra produkt.

"Does this make sense?" - In principle yes but you should assume the cameras will need to be charged every so often and that depends on the level of sunlight the panels receive. If you can go for the larger 12W panels as these optimise the occasional time the sun pops out in the UK and ensure the panel is located to catch sun for as much of the day as you can. But whist you indicate lack of skills/time for an ethernet system, are wired wifi cameras an option as these would be orders of magnitude better than a battery/solar camera. For example a solar camera depends on its pir to detect motion and then wake up. Add in the approx 10m pir range there is a fair chance of missing some of the action. Compare that to a wired camera which is permanently watching and allows for pre-roll. As an example, the Amazon van comes down the road, with a solar camera hopefully the detection is as the delivery person walks up the drive whilst the powered camera has recorded the van turning onto your road. This is a day & night difference. So yes, a solar camera is better than no camera but worse then a powered camera be that plug-in wifi or poe.
