People actually put this surveillance in their own homes? Like they willingly surrender their privacy to a private company that can now monitor them with AI tools, and they want the AI to be able to tell exactly what the camera sees at all times? I mean if the AI isnt accurate with the security reports, maybe they could just pay a person to stand in the corner who writes down everything they see and then make a detailed report, and then promise they wont sell that info forwards.

I love the idea of my smart thermostat, but it mistakes "smart" for "smarter than you" and keeps fucking with my schedule and making my house uncomfortable. After years of messing with it, it's basically no longer smart at all and it's just a voice activated thermostat with an app. Not like it ever saved me squat anyway when the power bills are $400 a month here anyway. ಠ_ಠ

I wish I could agree but I've actually just had to move on from my 6a after the early October Android 16 update halved my battery life overnight. It's been widely reported by 6/7/some 8 series device users online and Google sincerely could not give less of a shit if they tried. Pixels have had longstanding issues with efficiency (Tensor has problems) and a lot of their devices have extremely poor mobile reception (my 6a suffered from this since I bought it). Between those issues, dodgy firmware updates, and the absolute lack of care from their after support, I've actually changed my mind on the Pixel phones. They've got great cameras, and kinda mediocre everything else.

If you want pure privacy and control, home-assistant is pretty fun. Setup is a lot of tinkering but can work with some devices you already own.

I went this route. Aside from the tinkering, it can also be a little confusing what does and doesn't support home assistant. Also NVR and cameras self hosted is going to be significantly more expensive than nest cams.
