r/homeautomation · Why do robot vacuums still need so much hands-on effort? (Expectation vs. Reality)

I have had robot vacuums going back to the Neato D3. The progress from D3->D5 to Roborock S7 to 10R is impressive. D3 would get stuck almost daily and would need to empty the bag at least once. D5 did not get stuck as much but would fail at least 25% of the time and the bin need emptying every day. S7 was a huge step up and would need maybe an intervention once a week. Still had to empty the bin daily and then fill the water tank once a week and clean the mop pad. If I wasn't on top of the maintenance it would run for maybe 2 days at the most. 10R made it that daily runs without intervention possible. In the year of owning it, I've had to help it out maybe 5 times total out of 300 runs. The maintenance is basically emptying the dirty water once a month and filling it with fresh water twice a month. The bag can go a couple months but I replace them sooner just to keep the restriction down. Prior to the 10R, I had two of each unit that would split the house. With the 10R, it handles the entire house and takes turns on which half it vacuums and mops depending on the day of the week. Overall, they do a good job of lessing the amount of dirt and hair in the house to a significant degree. If I pull out the big vacuum, it collects much less dirt and hair if the robot runs daily. This was the biggest thing that I saw going from the older units to the 10R with the dock. Some days I would just not have time for maintenance and then it's an uphill battle. With a unit that docks, I don't skip days unless intentional which leaves little hair for a weekly full clean with an big vacuum.

r/RobotVacuums · How is Roborock Saros 10r working out for everyone

I too tried the 10r before returning it, it stands no chance against the roborock s7, the saros (and really, all robots after the s7) are ass. All the effort being put into mopping systems are handicapping the actual vacuuming performance, and there is no indicator of that changing anytime soon.

r/RobotVacuums · Which roller mop for 1st robot vacuum?

Let’s say they fix the leaking issue on the Aqua 10, why would the first generation be “bad”. I always think of the Roomba i7 and s9 which had the first empty dock or the Roborock S7. And these first gen systems being fine. (Same with Saros) (Let’s not forget, if they actually redesign the system drastically, it will take years, they may adjust things now, but just like their obstacle avoidance, they develop a module, and then use that module for several bots)

r/RobotVacuums · My Detailed Comparison: Mova V50 Ultra Complete vs. Narwal Flow

I have a Mova V50 and, like you, switched from a Roborock S7. \- I have linoleum floors and they apparently aren't supposed to be mopped with a lot of water anyways, so I reduced the water flow when using the Mova. I didn't notice it actually making a difference in how clean it felt, I just noticed a difference in how fast the floor dried. \- The Mova can't fit under my kitchen cabinets, but neither could my Roborock. \- My Roborock couldn't vacuum and mop at the same time, the suction was too weak and it would plaster hair to the wet floor when it mopped. I always had to vacuum once and mop separately afterwards. With the Mova V50, I can't vacuum first and mop afterwards, the battery will die. However I found out if I put the suction up high enough, I can vacuum and mop at once and it'll do the entire house without dying, and the suction is strong enough that hair actually gets picked up instead of getting plastered to the floor. I also turned off all the image sending features and some other stuff which presumably eats up battery during a run.

r/Roborock · Roborock Saros 10R and Eufy Omni e28 one week review

I usually check it every other day, so it has never been full yet and I don't know. The clean water tank got empty once and I did receive a notification from the app. When we had the old S7, and when the dirty water tank was full, I would get a notification.

r/Roborock · Roborock Saros 10R and Eufy Omni e28 one week review

I would say Eufy does a decent job faster. I didn't do very controlled testing, but the roller mop does have its advantage of being washed real time when cleaning. Vacuuming is slightly worse than 10R. If we want a quick run of the entire house while we are out for a walk, we really don't want to come back to the house an hour later to find only half of the house cleaned. I know 10R is going to be slower than our old S7, but didn't expect it to be almost twice as slow.

r/homeowners · Do any of you use robovac? worth it or just a scam?

I have 3 dogs and we live in Florida so they track in lots of gritty sand. The rugs by the doors catch most of it, but there is still some that makes it to the tile or the living room area rug. We have a Roborock S7 with the self-emptying feature - I am always surprised at how much gets picked up by the vacuum just by running in my living room, kitchen, dining room, and entryways. I run mine during the overnight when dogs are behind a closed door in our bedroom (also on the 1st floor) and clean-up the floor prior to going to be to ensure all items on the floor are picked up that would get caught in the vac or prevent the vac from cleaning a specific space (dog toys, shoes, charging cables, etc.).

    r/Roborock · Share Your Real Reviews & Expectations — Win a Saros 20! ✨

I’ve been using the Roborock S7 for quite a while now and it has honestly been one of the best robot vacuums I’ve owned. The suction power is still impressive even after years of use, and it handles daily dust, pet hair, and debris really well. The navigation and mapping have also been very reliable in my home — it rarely gets stuck and cleans in a very efficient pattern. The only issue I’ve run into is with the wet cleaning function. The mopping system unfortunately stopped working properly over time, which is a bit disappointing because the combination of vacuuming and mopping was one of the reasons I chose the S7 in the first place. Aside from that, the robot has been extremely dependable. What I’d love to see improved in the next flagship is a more durable and maintenance-friendly mopping system. Something with stronger scrubbing, better water control, and longer-lasting components would make a big difference. A smarter dock that handles more of the maintenance automatically would also be amazing. That’s why I’m really curious about the Saros 20. If it keeps the strong suction and navigation Roborock is known for while improving the mopping reliability and automation, it would definitely be a very compelling upgrade. Overall, my S7 has been a great daily cleaning companion, and I’m excited to see how the next generation pushes things even further.

    r/Roborock · Saros 10R - 1 Year Review Update

I upgraded from the S7 to teh Saros 10R & the biggest benefit is how teh 10R mop cleaning system manages itself. Cleaning the S7's filter was a nasty affair, akin to cleaning a sewer. I hardly have to do that with the 10R & when I do, it's simple: the whole unit pops out & there's no sludge due to the more effective self cleaning & drying. I have 2 large dogs & 4 cats, so the Roborocks both earned their keep, but the 10R is definitely more hands-off

    r/Roborock · Saros 10R - 1 Year Review Update

You should not have replaced the vacuum roller for vacuuming performance. The S7s do a great job with hair on rugs and carpets with the factory solid rubber rollers. I think this was a mistake. Otherwise, as an owner of two 10Rs, I completely agree with you. It mops well but is a mediocre vacuum cleaner at best. This is why I do all of my vacuuming with S8s. Thanks for your thoughts! I enjoyed reading your post very much!

r/ecovacs · ECOVACS DEEBOT X11 OmniCyclone - Real world feedback requested

I had a Deebot before (their first self empty doc). It kept falling off WiFi and wouldn’t clean. I dropped it and went to a Roborock S7 and that’s been fine. Back in the market to upgrade and I worry about X11 for this reason. But the spec list looks pretty solid. Torn…

    r/Roborock · Roborock Saros 10 - after one week

Great write-up. How does it cope with your skirting boards? I have 40 mm boards as well and my S7 constantly bumps in to them when it runs the perimeter of each room. Both are pretty badly scarred after 4 years.

r/Roborock · Roborock Saros 10R and Eufy Omni e28 one week review

Would love some advice, please! I have all hard wood floors and 2 big sled dogs (no carpet at all and tile in the bathrooms). That translates to lots of hair and lots of muddy paw prints. I have a 3 story home and have a restored Roborock S7 Robot Vacuum and Mop on the third floor (less travled by dogs), and another one on the second floor with a cleaning station. The first floor I decided to try the eufy Robot Vacuum Omni S1 Pro because i need much better mopping than I was getting from the roborocs. Overall, I am content with the eufy, however the maintenance is getting expensive and can be kind of a pain, and the dirty water tank can really smell (yes, I do use the cleaning solution). I do find that the mopping is much better than I ever got with S7. The battery is dying in one of my s7's, so I am thinking of getting a new battery and then passing this down to my sister, as she does not have one. I am looking at the Saros 10R as a replacement. I definitely need excellent mopping capability. Would love recommendations based on similar situations and experiences. THANK YOU!!

r/RobotVacuums · Big Deal Day Recommendations by Price Band - These are the robots I'd buy

Thanks, I read your comment below and it looks like the software has a ways to go. I’m considering the 3i S10 Ultra. I’ve used the Roborock S7 for 4 years daily and it has done fairly. It looses internet connection often so the app can’t connect. It sometimes forgets a scheduled cleaning. My dog had an accident once and the vacuum did the unspeakable. The vacuum power is just average and the dust bin gets filled quickly. This is for a 900 sqft area and I need one for a 2200 sqft area with carpet/hardwood,sliding glass door ledge to a sun room, dog hair, wife hair, and a toddler. The 3i S10 ultra seems to hit all the marks for the best bang for your buck of the list.

r/RobotVacuums · How Can We ( Vacuum Wars) Catch Real-World Issues in Robot Vacuum Reviews?

I love your videos, and definitely have some feedback! For starters, I think having a channel like yours that verifies specs and cleaning performance when the robot works as intended is absolutely valuable. The nature of that testing is why I wish user reviews and price didn't affect your ranking. I want to know how robots rank based off of their performance if they worked properly in an ideal environment, regardless of those metrics. I can compare prices on my own, but I want to know is x robot better than y robot with cleaning/navigation/battery/etc performance and features, and by how much. As far as user reviews go, I think it's a bit of a pain point. Without the sale data you can't really trust quantity of reviews, and without being able to determine if the negative review is user error or not you can't really trust the content of the reviews. You can also have old reviews where issues were fixed in firmware, and the user might not go back and update the review. I would rather user reviews be scrapped and instead user reported problem areas are incorporated into a mock room/home environment (think something like Proving Grounds for automotive testing). Bonus points if you have a real "keep out zone" in the grounds and ensure the robot adheres to it, which would allow for a mapping run, then a real run. If I want to, I can always go through user reviews on the vacuums I'm considering. If you choose to keep user reviews, I would rather them not affect score, but just note common issues people may have with the robot, filtering one off issues as needed. I would also love to see life testing of a robot. Run it in a trusted user's home over so many months, and have them report day to day nuances, then bring the robot back for another run in the proving grounds. I see this as valuable as I've seen robots perform worse over time from a hardware perspective, but better from software. For example, my Roborock S7 worked flawlessly on carpet with the mop attached when I got it. After a year or two, it started having weird navigation issues on carpet areas. I assumed it was clogged up wheels, bad sensors, etc. It ended up being that the wheel springs were no longer strong enough to give the robot traction on carpet with the mop pad attached.

r/unpopularopinion · Robot vacuums are expensive and a waste of time.

I've got a Roborock S7, so anyway my counter points * It does not have any features that require any more maintenance than lower models. Basically the trash container needs to be cleaned, mop cleaned, water filled. Basically what you'd expect from a vac/mop combo. Errors usually just involve cleaning a sensor. * It can map more than one floor, so your point is moot * I can just carry the robot up to the other floor and it works without a base * The run time is plenty, but I guess I don't have a huge house. It can return to the base and recharge, then begin cleaning again when it has enough charge to finish, so no big deal. * The house doesn't need to be clean but it does need small clutter picked up. I don't have a problem with that because I would have to pick up the clutter anyways, as part of maintaining a clean home * Noise levels.. its kinda loud sure, but thats how any vac is. Can solve it by not being home or on the same level when cleaning. It also adjusts suction so that its not as loud on hard floor, which is nice. * Emptying the trash takes 30 seconds, not a big deal since I only need to do it once every few weeks * There's no camera so its not uploading images of anything, I don't really care if a Chinese company knows the layout of my house anyway. * It doesn't require perfect furniture arrangement because it'll just go around things and adapt

r/homeautomation · Can robot vacuum truly deep clean your home?

I have had a Roborock S7 for the last 2 years and before that I had a Samsung for like 3 years (no emptying dock station). Both purchased as clearance items after either Black Friday deals or Christmas left overs at larger retailers box stores. I have 3 large dogs - hardwood floor, minimal door mats, and tile in bathrooms only. I love love love having them!!!! They have helped me so much! In areas that my dogs are in the most, I split the room themselves into 2 sections in the map. That way it goes back to empty itself and does not overwhelm the vacuum. I still have to bust out my shark vacuum to go under furniture that it does not fit under. I haven’t even tried the moping feature yet!! Ugh— not sure why but gotta get on it.

r/homeassistant · What's the best robot vacuum for home currently?

My Roborock S7 has been nearly flawless. I just fill / empty the tanks for it's weekly cleaning (mop & vac - carpet / hard floor) & it gives me perfect floors. Needs the occasional hairball detangle & rare maintenance item now & then, but it's easily one of my better investments. It will occasionally attempt to eat some stray things (clothing / small cords), but it's just a reminder to pick up before his cleaning day.
