Dreame X40 Ultra

Dreame X40 Ultra, packshot

I think with these vacuums the flagships are simply not worth the money. Until next year’s model comes out and they drop the price. I’m pleased with my $500 X40. But I’d feel worse about the purchase if I had paid $1k+ when it came out, honestly.

It seems to be the lottery with Dreame. I bought a L20 2 years ago which was complete trash: numerous navigation issues, taking forever to complete cleaning tasks, maps disappearing from the app, etc. I returned it and bought a X40. It’s been absolutely flawless. With that said, I think my next robot vacuum will be a Roborock.

There’s even a Dreame employee who’s a mod in the Dreame subreddit, it’s bonkers. I bought my X40 Ultra for 1,400 dollars, 4 months later it was 800 dollars. It took them 8 months to enable the side brush being able to spin on carpet. They rarely ever update it anymore. It feels like it’s getting stupider and stupider, it slams into my door thresholds, so much that it broke my front spinning wheel and I had to have it replaced. It’s great hardware, but the software and navigation is getting worse and worse. Never buying Dreame again

Love the x40, really has everything you need at a good price (it was $1900 just a year ago) but careful with Dreame’s refurbished on ebay, they don’t really check if the robots are working so it’s up to your luck, once you’re beyond the 30 days return window they’ll stop responding and you’re basically on your own.

r/RobotVacuums · Track Mops vs Roller Mops vs Spinning Pads: Are the New ‘Real-Time Cleaning’ Robots Worth It? →2025-08-22

All good points. My 2 cents as someone who has both a track (A10 Pro Track) and spinning (x40 ultra) robovacuum at difference places, but very very similar conditions and flooring types: There's a noticeable difference in cleanliness with track mops, even if there are no liquid spills. This is obvious simply from feet-feel. I don't know exactly why, my best guess is that spinning mops don't fully get rid of feet sweat/oils/and other more stubborn liquid (?) type build up on the floor. That said, it is not perfect and occasionally deep clean is still required. Bottom line is that even if you're just talking about daily cleaning, there is definitely an improvement. Difference in maintenance is marginal . You still have to periodically clean the same things - internal dustbin (+water bin for track), internal dustbin area, sensors, dock. Yes there are more parts, but it is unlikely you will notice the difference, its still a monthly 5 - 10 min job. I don't consider refilling water a maintenance item, but it is important and more on that below. All that said, I wouldn't recommend people to run out and buy a track mop; there are clear compromises at the moment. For A10 Pro Track, the key ones are that a water hookup kit is almost a hard requirement, and it is not suitable for larger houses as the run time is half that of the X40. Replacement parts (especially the track mop itself) aren't really available, and the listings I see on the usual platforms are significantly more expensive than the spinning versions. There are also weird quirks/hardware issues that Dreame needs to iron out as a 1st gen. The whole experience has been incredibly frustrating for me. If I am to make an recommendation, it will be to wait till early 2026 for rollers and tracks to mature, then take a look at reviews and comparisons. The winner will probably be a lot clearer. tldr - tracks are better, but too immature. Not a great time to be buying robovacuums as there's no clear winner.

Save your money and go with last year’s Dreame X40 with the tri-cut brush roller. I have the Saros 10R. It’s a PITA. Gets stuck all the time under cabinets and in odd places. It’s a poor performer compared to my S8 MaxV Ultra. The OA only works in SmartPlan mode, otherwise you get nothing. I also have the X40. It’s still a good bot with decent battery life and good obstacle avoidance. And you’d be saving a ton of money.

r/RobotVacuums · Is there a consensus here on the best vacuum cleaner? Dreame X40/L40 Ultra or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra →2024-11-30

I bought an X40 refurb from Dreame's eBay store for 799. It was literally brand new, as they said someone returned it unopened, which has usually been the case with others on this forum. But the important thing is that with kids, my house is constantly messy: a bunch of socks here and there, jackets on the floor, shoes at random places, under the couches, and in general chaos. But with Dreame x40, I just set it and forget about it; I never had to unclog/unblock it, and my floors feel nice. One thing I am learning is that with excellent obstacle avoidance comes great responsibility - Onion peels in the kitchen can get misrecognized as dog poop, so there is that versus going over it. My earlier Roborock Master, every run I had to unclog a sock or a lace or a cable. It was just frustrating.

Im using X40U and my experiences are quite different, but i had low expectations. It gives me what i needed. Not perfect, but regular floor cleaning. What makes overall experience of living at my flat a much better, It never gets stuck on anything, but i have no kids, so most i can left on the floor is sock somewhere near my bed from time to time. For me it takes 0 minutes to clean the floors now as im turning it on when i'm going for a walk, It never got stuck anywhere. I have very narrow passage under my bed what he has to go through as it is the only path to clean side of the room. He takes that path every time as planned. I still need to do some deep cleaning myself, but it is once per 2 weeks to clean some hard to access places. My flat is quite well organised for such robot. Not much furniture, a lot of open space. Their application is very solid. This mapping flat feature is very well UX designed. I have perfect setup with cleaning ordered in a perfect way. My whole flat is 62 m^2 and it makes all of it in about 50minutes, what perfectly fits my daily routine.

If it helps I may be in the same boat. My L40 was garbage, returned and refunded for an x40. Which was also complete trash. Navigation issues, getting stuck on literally nothing. Poor vacuuming and mopping. Dreame just sent me the x50 as a replacement and it's much much worse. Doesn't pull any water, most of the the time it's just roaming around not vacuuming. Every day is a new issue. I just got a message saying that the main brush is wrapped. On what? Who knows, I have 0 exposed cables. We'll see when I get home. I'm going to back to RoboRock after this mess. Ps my x10 ultra Gen 2 on the second floor is a nightmare on it's own too.

Good stuff. Please test for threshold crossing ability. Those of us in older homes really need that. Dreame x40 Ultra jumps stuff well enough, I have door mats over the 3/4 to 1" thresholds and it did ok. Not great but ok. All my previous roomba's managed it, the door mats are a direct result of a roomba a few years ago. Dreame stopped picking up the mops so it went home and I bought a Ecovacs T30s Deebot AI, It has a very hard time with thresholds. It gives up quickly and does not map well. For example, first time out, it was unable to leave the kitchen. So it mapped the kitchen and a space outside the kitchen that it could see was called a room. But it was only able to see 30% of the actual room. Sent it to clean that room. It jumped the threshold and cleaned the entire room. It did not update the map as the dreame would each run. Sent out for a remap. Got the center room and failed to get the hallway that did not have a threshold to cross, got 20% of another room it could't get in and didn't place a wall where there was a wall. So that is going home in a week or so when the replacement gets here. So I'm waiting on a Roborock Qrevo Curve. We will see where that goes.

Yea I won't name the company but one big company just emailed me last night and told me to change the pascal rating from their own marketing material and up it by 1k! It is just BS. Yea I have new testing equipment for the hot water mop washing which will allow me to data log the entire wash cycle. I think is a borderline marketing scam as well. The Dreame X40 hit its peak temp for one second and only produced hot water (above 100F) for 20 seconds out of 2.5 minutes. Atleast they hit their peak though. Many others don't. Hot water would be effective with mopping, but my tests show no noticeable difference with cleaning stains from mopping pads.

The X40 and L40 are essentially the same. I think the lower rating for the X40’s navigation is due to older firmware and the L40’s firmware is more polished. Just choose whichever model is cheaper. My TriCut brush works as advertised, no hair or fur tangles around it. The S8MaxV’s rollers are more prone to getting fur stuck on the sides and their navigation and obstacle avoidance isn’t as good as Dreame’s.

V50 > X50. They are basically identical but the v50 has slightly better QOL features such as UV water disinfection which probably doesn't do much. Unless you absolutely need features such as threshold climbing and retracting lidar, I would just save my money and get the x40 certified refurb from dreame's eBay store https://www.ebay.com/itm/358554971565 Cleans as well, but isn't plagued by the bad battery life issues of the 50 series robots from dreame and Mova. Obstacle avoidance is about equal as well. I had two of them as a replacement for my Eufy x10s which I returned due to poor cleaning performance and navigation, they were significantly better and a great value for money in 2026

I bought the model x40 ultra but white the robot itself has new stuff, I don't know what they did with the base but their suction power to clean the robot is awful. I have an X40 Ultra and havent had any of these issues. yes a full clean of the house with separate vacuum then mop mode, deep clean and everything turned on takes a long while, but I'm drinking a beer infront of the TV while it does it so it can take all the damn time it needs! sounds like its initial scan was flawed in some way, wipe the map and redo it, but keep in mind the first few cleans its still learning and figuring out the optimal routes. It should be able to identify obstacles or moved furniture and go around them, in any cleaning mode, I even get a picture of it and an ai description that I can comment on to help it learn (and probably train chinese ai models to fine tune my ads lol) they arent super quick, but 2 hours to do one room means something is wrong, I have a pretty large dining+kitchen area and it takes about 30 minutes in quick mode and an hour in the slower vacuum then mop in cleangenius mode. no the vacuum isn't going to be as powerful as a big traditional vac, that's not really possible in the form factor and power constraints, they arent plugged into the wall and equipped with 2KW + motors, it's the same kind of performance as a basic handheld vacuum at the low end and a mid range dyson style stick vac at the higher end. Enough for your daily maintenance clean but its not going to look great the first time it runs on a heavily soiled floor. Basically it will keep an already clean house perfectly clean, but it cant really clean a dirty house very well in one go.

X40 ultra stopped working after 3 months, they made me mail it to them, 2 months later they said they needed $90 to fix it even though they assured me it was covered under warranty, another month and a half later they told me they couldn't repair it because they claimed I already got a refund for it, I think it was about another month and a half I got the new robot and the light on the front didn't work so I had to package that up and send it to them and wait for another one.

I think you need to decide whether you’re okay having mats or ramps at your thresholds, or if it’s worth the price difference not to. But assuming the former, you’ll be happy with the L40 or X40. Fwiw, I started with an L50, thinking I needed the threshold crossing capabilities of that or the X50. Ended up returning that (unrelated reason), and decided to roll the dice on the X40 for a lot less. It just barely makes it over my 2.5cm thresholds, but with a little effort it does every time. No chance it makes it over 3.5cm I think.

A couple comments. I have the X40 pro Ultra and can say that the lifting/lowering lidar is a big deal to me. It can now get under all the furniture in my house to vac and mop. The dual roller design of the x40 pro ultra is different and is the same as the top Roborock - it is the best I have had for carpets and much better than the single brush too. I noticed that you had all rubber brushes which are not as good on carpet as bristle. You can get a rubber /bristle combo for the vac ( if it wasn't already included) which will improve carpet cleaning performance significantly.

Questions fréquentes

Le SAV Dreame est-il fiable?

Non.
