  I bought a Dreame L20 Ultra in 2023 for $1050 and it isn’t even worth half of that. It started off strong really impressing me with its obstacle avoidance but over time it became total garbage. The water tank in the robot that releases water when mopping stopped working, it constantly gets stuck on my barstools and dog bows because of the kind of legs they have and worst of all, it just pushes clumps of dog hair all over the house even after replacing and cleaning all the parts. It’s been tempting to give them another try because of all the glowing reviews and recommendations but I told myself I’d never put my money into Dreame again. Thought about trying Mova after the positive reviews but noticed a lot of the parts and app seemed familiar and of course, it turns out it’s owned by Dreame.

  It seems to be the lottery with Dreame. I bought a L20 2 years ago which was complete trash: numerous navigation issues, taking forever to complete cleaning tasks, maps disappearing from the app, etc. I returned it and bought a X40. It’s been absolutely flawless. With that said, I think my next robot vacuum will be a Roborock.

  If you can find one. I have the dreame L20 Ultra and it’s an amazing unit. Works every time, does a great job navigating around all the kids toys and it just works. Sometimes (one or twice a month) it gets stuck but that’s about it.

  We have a Labrador that constantly sheds, like after 2 days of not vacuuming, we end up with fur up on the floor against all walls of the house. After quite a bit of research, ended up getting the Roborock Max Ultra S7, it lasted about 6 or 7 months and then it just died. After that, I have to admit, it kinda tainted Roborock for me. Luckily, it was under warranty, so I returned it. Did a bit more research and decided to give Dreame a go, and got the L20 Ultra at the start of June 2024, and I freaking love it and it’s still going strong. App is better than Roborock, keeps the house clean. I send it out over night on alternate days and the house is pretty spotless. Recommended it to my father in law, they have two labradors who constantly shed and they love it. Things to note both our houses are tiled, with minimal carpets/rugs. It does a decent job at vacuuming and mopping. We don’t usually have cables or have clutter or small items for it to get stuck on. It tends to only get stuck when the misses forgets to put her ankle socks away, it just chews them and it gets stuck. I wouldn’t get the Shark, when I was researching it, it wasn’t in my top list of robo vacs, I don’t remember the specifics, but I remember it wasn’t even a contender. Now, for Roborock, based on my experience, I wasn’t that impressed, and it didn’t live that long, and I was super disappointed with the app. There is no doubt if our robot vacuum dies, I will do a bit more research - but I’m pretty sure I’ll end up with another Dreame, just again based on my experience and its performance. And the fact that our dog just sheds. Hope this helps.

  I love mine! I just leave the dirt detective on and change the mop every night. The floor is very clean. I also have the L20. The L20 is a better machine, is almost like a toy which you want to keep playing, but for cleaning, the J9 combo outperforms.

  It's $984 on Amazon right now. Mine has been working great, and seems like a great choice for your situation. I've been testing it head-to-head with a Dreame L20 Ultra that I also have and the J9+ consistently outperforms it in vacuuming, mopping, and navigation (and the app). Couple things to be aware of: It needs light to navigate well, and there is a 2" gap along the walls that it can't mop.

  Just came across this post and wanted to chime in as well. This vacuum is my new best friend. My girlfriend moved in with her cat and dog recently and apparently I'm allergic to both. But after using this every day my allergies have been reduced quite a bit. Made the wait until my next appointment to test the rest of my allergies and get shots sooooo much easier

  I would highly recommend the j9+ combo for a small to medium size home which has mostly carpet, pets and kids. If you have a large home and mostly hardwood floor, would recommend the S8 or L20/30 instead. The l20/30 requires less maintenance, however the S8 is more reliable and has better navigation. I currently have the j9 combo and L20, but have also tested the L30 and S8. In reality, they are all excellent, don’t worry much about reviews, they are all sponsored at some level!

  Completely agree. I am quite familiar with this sort of tech, and don’t usually make that sort of mistake. In my view the app is misleading in this respect. Plus no way back. Not a deal breaker but annoying and heads up for others.

  Count me in the same boat. Very impressed with how clean it can get the floors, probably better than the Tineco vac mop that I probably won't be using much anymore. My only concern is how long the unit will last and how easily it will be to service in the future.

  I have also had the L20 for 2 weeks only and love it. I also had the problem with accidently deleting the auto detected carpets, i havent done a remap either, they should really add a way to auto detect carpets again after initial mapping. I have added manual carpets that are a bit bigger to avoid from going to close with the mops... the no mop zone confused me because i would imagine it just didnt mop them and would return to vacuum that area since it can detach the mops. But it seems the no mop zone behave as if the robot doesnt know it can detach mops and just wont go there if you do vac&mop cleaning to avoid going with wet mops ok carpet. But then its more like a no go zone so dont really see the use for no mop zone? Now i just use the manual carpets to get the effect i want.

  Have just got mine. It looks very similar to the J7+ which I have. Took 1:40h to finish mapping. I also have an S8 pro ultra and L20 which mapped my home in 15min. I have not tested the J9 combo enough yet, but planning on returning it, based on my first impression/mapping performance.

  I deeply researched robot vacuums for months before pulling the trigger on the L20 Ultra. When it first arrived, it was great- the cleaning power is fantastic, and while the app is a bit clumsy, it's completely useable. Unfortunately, after 3 months the robot stopped docking. That was four months ago. I have tried every troubleshooting solution under the sun (clean the sensors, tilt the base, remap the house, unplug it and restart the robot, move to a new location, etc, etc, etc), and have now sent the thing to be repaired twice. Based on the turn-around time, I'm very confident that they took it out of the (enormous) box, turned it on, made it dock and then sent it back, without actually inspecting why it might be failing at home (if it works in the lab, it must work in the field, right?). Following the last repair trip the machine came back scratched and covered in some kind of mold, and best yet- it now regularly deletes the map while trying to perform cleaning tasks. So if I tell it to vacuum the house, it vacuums an 11sqft box around its home base, says it's done cleaning, goes back to the dock and wiggles around for a few minutes before asking to be returned to the base. It's absolutely infuriating. The Dreame customer service is HORRIBLE- automated emails and formulated responses are all you get. And since my robot is outside the 30 day return window, they are refusing to let me send it back for a refund, despite the fact that it is obviously faulty and they have failed to repair it. They have offered to send me a refurbished model ("that works as well as a brand new device"), which obviously is not terribly appealing since my original robot failed 3 months out of the box. Now it looks like Dreame has made a knock off company (MOVA) selling carbon copies of their robot vacuums. Which begs the question- if their robots work and they stand by their product, why would you want to create an identical competitor, unless people were starting to complain about their Dreame vacuums??

  Beware of the L20, I bought it and it wouldn't dispense the clean water no matter what I tried and when searching online I found several others with the same problem, when I contacted Dreame support about it they refused to honour their warranty as they said I didn't buy from an official reseller (how am I supposed to know that) and suggested contacting the company I bought it from to see if they could fix it, absolutely useless I would go with Roborock far more trustworthy.

  I had the 980 + Braava jet m6 combo it doesn’t hold the candle to the Dreame’s L20 Ultra. The m6 is super slow and dumb. As I always vacuum first before mopping. Especially the L20 can leave the mop pads at the base when vacuuming. You cant go wrong with either Roborock or Dreame’s flagship models. IRobot has fallen way too far behind

  Same here. I own it for about two weeks and have already noticed how much cleaner my apartment became. The only one small drawback I noticed during this time. I have wooden floor with a lot of patterns and knots. Sometimes my robot fails to detect slightly dirtier areas and does them regular way… However it can be solved by marking areas on the app and telling the robot to mop them stronger.

  My Dreame just went savage and wanted to drive down the stairs, stopped when it was already half over the step and backed up, did it several times, then drove full speed against the walls a couple times, then proceeded normally…. Never did it before …. I am mot sure about this robot….

  I really would like to enjoy it, as I like Roomba robots, however, after trying the J9 combo for a few days, I see that it lacks behind the others, which is unfortunately. Having a dreame L20 ultra and robotock S7maxV ultra, there is no comparison. The J9 is much louder, slower, and does not clean well as advertised. The L20 has much power and did clean the carpet much better, even better than the S9 which I have. When the robot is mopping and vacuuming, the navigation is terrible, specially if you have carpet. Vacuuming only, is good! The other bad thing is that the vacuum bumps everywhere, does not work when is dark (terrible in the winter as now sunlight after 4:00pm). Also, it leaves several areas with unclean floor. If you leave in a clean environment, the mopping will a good job, though . I will be returning mine and wait for the S9 upgrade or for the Matic robot which is coming next year!
